IRAN TO THE WORLD: “ANY VESSEL ENTERING THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ WILL BE DESTROYED”
Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz again. Just hours after reopening it, the IRGC reversed course and fired live rounds on tankers attempting to transit, forcing vessels to turn back. 20% of the world’s oil moves through that narrow strip of water. Right now, it is a war zone.
Iran’s military made their position clear the strait will remain “under strict management and control of the armed forces” until the United States lifts its blockade of Iranian ports.
India has already summoned Iran’s ambassador after two Indian-flagged tankers were fired upon. A ceasefire between the US and Iran expires this Wednesday.
Africa must pay attention. Every barrel of oil blocked here raises fuel prices across the continent. Nigeria, Angola, Libya African oil exporters feel this
African consumers feel this at the pump, in transport costs, in food prices. This is not a Middle East problem. This is a global problem, and Africa is not insulated from it.
Africa as global oil supply hangs in the balance, how is your country preparing for the economic fallout?
