Nigerian Singer Ruger Fires Back After TikTok Critic Wishes Him Dead

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ruger has publicly responded to a social media creator who openly wished for his demise over his controversial song lyrics. The online clash has quickly gone viral, drawing mixed reactions from music fans and social commentators alike.

Controversy Over Song Lyrics

The drama began when a female TikTok user criticized the singer’s musical catalog, labeling his lyrics as “misogynistic and homophobic.” In a video that went viral across various platforms, the creator expressed her extreme disapproval in Pidgin English, stating, “Ruger gats die na the only thing wey fit help my mental health” (meaning: Ruger has to die, it is the only thing that can help my mental health).

Rather than ignoring the severe statement, the popular artist took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to address the death wish. Sharing the video of the creator, Ruger argued that the gravity of her comment gave him a “free pass” to retaliate aggressively, anticipating backlash from social justice advocates.

“I think I get a pass for her wishing me dead. So apologies to the feminists and body positivity activists,” the singer wrote, preemptively addressing potential critics of his response.

Ruger then directed personal jabs at the TikTok user’s physical appearance. “But this girl is worried about the wrong thing. Instead of her to be worried about her high intake of okpa, she is on the verge of getting a triple chin,” he added.

Mixed Reactions from the Public

The altercation has sparked intense debate across Nigerian pop culture circles. While many of Ruger’s loyal fans defended his right to retaliate against someone wishing him dead, others criticized the singer for resorting to body-shaming tactics. The incident highlights the increasingly volatile nature of celebrity-fan interactions in the digital age.
