MUNDUBILE LOST BECAUSE OF TRIBALISM AND GREEDY, SAYS MAXWELL CHONGU.

NRPUP member Maxwell Chongu has delivered a scathing verdict on Brian Mundubile’s election defeat, blaming what he describes as tribalism, greed, selfishness and deep divisions within the opposition camp.

In a strongly worded statement posted on his official Facebook page, Chongu stated that Mundubile’s political camp made the critical mistake of surrounding itself with people from one region, creating divisions that ultimately worked in favour of President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND.

Chongu argued that while Mundubile and Makebi Zulu came from the same region, President Hichilema’s camp successfully exploited the disunity within their ranks.

“We lost because of selfishness by leaders from the same region. President Hakainde Hichilema simply took advantage of their greed and disunity,” Chongu stated.

He said the opposition’s failure was not simply an electoral loss but a consequence of internal weaknesses that, in his view, allowed the UPND to capitalise on divisions within the opposition.

Chongu went further, saying he believed it was better for Mundubile to lose the election, arguing that a victory could have returned the country to what he described as “lawlessness.”

He pointed to events surrounding Mundubile’s declaration that he had won the election, alleging that scores of cadres subsequently rushed into town, where they attempted to destroy property and seize bus stations.
