AKA’s Family Finally Responds To Leaked CCTV Videos Of His Death

AKA’s family has finally spoken out over the viral leaked CCTV videos of the rapper’s brutal killing over the weekend.

Two CCTV clips of the moment AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, was shot dead made their way onto the public domain on Saturday, 11 February. The videos showed two angles of how a suspected hired hitman and an accomplice ran up to the Lemons/Lemonade rapper and gunned him down.

AKA was in Durban to perform at his birthday celebration event at YuGo. The killers ambushed him as he left a Morningside restaurant and planted bullets in his head at the back of his ear. They also shot dead his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Speaking to Newzroom Africa through a lawyer, Rudolph Baloyi, the Forbes family said it is deeply disturbed by the gruesome videos.

“The way that Kiernan passed is tragic. By the time the videos became available, everybody was shocked. Everybody then understood the full extent of what exactly happened and how brutal it was.

“So, for the videos to be uploaded online, obviously, the family would have wanted everything private. You don’t want to have such images of your child floating out there for everybody to see.

“But also, I think it sheds light on what happened to him. It also brings some level of closure to the people that knew him and also to the family. So it’s a feeling of either gratefulness, but also a feeling of pain because the family would have wanted to keep it private.”

Baloyi revealed that he, AKA’s father Tony and some of the rapper’s managers had seen the footage before someone got mischievous and posted it on the internet. The other Forbes family members had not seen the video prior.

AKA’s family is investigating how the CCTV videos leaked into the public domain and will consider if they can take legal action afterwards, Baloyi said.
