GOVERNMENT INCREASES FERTILIZER UNDER FISP

The government has increased the amount of fertiliser bags that farmers will receive under the farmer input support programme in the 2022/2023 agriculture season from 4 to six bags.

Presenting a ministerial statement in parliament today, Agriculture Minister Mtolo Phiri said his ministry has commenced the process of procuring inputs for the 2022/2023 farming season – adding that 1.2 million farmers will be supplied with inputs through the direct input supply system.

Mr Phiri says his ministry in collaboration with SMART Zambia is conducting a verification exercise on farmers accessing inputs through the farmer input support programme, to ensure that only deserving farmers benefit from the programme.

The Minister said farmers will be required to make a K400 contribution and will receive 6 bags of fertiliser, both basal and top dressing, as well as 10kgs of maize seed per farmer.
