GOVT AWARDS 2,780 ADDITIONAL LOANS TO UNZA STUDENTS

The higher education loans and scholarships board (HELSB) has awarded additional student loans to 2,780 first year students at the University of Zambia who were left out on the selection for the 2021/2022 academic year.

According to a press statement made available to S24 news , the board’s corporate communications officer Chiselwa Kawanda says, the award of the additional students loans has been made possible because the board received additional funds sourced by the minister of education Douglas Siakalima from the ministry of finance and national planning.

She said, in awarding the additional students loans , the 40 percent merit , 30 percent rural affirmative and 30 percent female affirmative criterion was used and that all applicants with disabilities were awarded in the first selection.

Chiselwa added that the award of the award of the additional students loans is distributed as 45% rural , 55% urban , and out of which 63% male, 37% female and 64% science based programmes while 36% art based programmes.

The high education loans and scholarships board received 10,682 student loans applications for the 2021/2022 academic year out of which 10,307 applicants were eligible for the award of student loans.
