Hichilema didn’t promise to end load shedding in a year – UPND

UPND National youth chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso has defended President Hakainde Hichilema against criticism over the ongoing power crisis, saying the Head of State didn’t promise to end load shedding within one year.

Appearing on KBN’s Big Hour programme last  night, Liswaniso said it was impossible for anyone to end a problem within a year.

“The President didn’t say he would end loadshedding within one year. He just said he would end loadshedding. We will end loadshedding. This load shedding hasn’t started now,” said Liswaniso.

He argued that the enegy crisis was not a political issue but a national challenge that requires collective solutions.

Liswaniso explained that government had already invested significant resources into the energy sector to ensure the problem was resolved sustainably.

“Load shedding is a problem. It affects everyone. Getting rid of load shedding is one of our priority. We are sharing hours because it’s affecting us. Load shedding is not a political matter. Let’s deal with it collectively.”

“Government has put money in the enegy sector to deal with load shedding so that 10 years from now, we won’t talk about load shedding,” explained the youth leader.

He appealed to Zambians to give President Hichilema and his government at large, enough time to deal with the crisis.

Liswaniso said it was also okay for people to continue complaining about the problem so that government is reminded every day that people are not happy.

“My appeal with the Zambian people is that government is working on load shedding. Continue complaining so that every money that comes goes to electricity. In 2029, I don’t want to talk about load shedding, he said.

He also agreed with Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo’s sentiments on Zesco stating that the power utility was indeed de-campaigning  the ruling party because of load shedding.

“Load shedding is indeed making us unpopular. I agree with the minister but government is working on it under President HH,” assured Liswaniso.

  1. That video where he called PF cabinet incompetent over load shedding must be AI. Where is his Dubai formula. Ati within 7 months of being elected, load shedding will be history. What a pathetic liar, this man.

    VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2026.

  2. Load shading can’t cause blame on HH as he is not having control on the rain we receive from the sky.We must all pray for heavy rains so that our Kariba gets filled to appreciated capacity capable to generate more power. We must learn to sacrifice too, look at our friends in Ethiopia, they have managed to put up the biggest dam in Africa, and was opened officially yesterday.
I am sure HH is planning to do something in Luapula that can help to generate more power to our country. He could have promised improved power supply when he was in opposition but mind you HH was not prevy to the debt Budden the country had as PF was not transparent. He took it that all was better yet the PF looted resources leaving the country in a very huge debt. You see like that one may fail to follow his work plan well because you may be forced to adjust here and there. HH means very well for our country and things shall be fine.We experienced a very bad drought that year which we shall never forget in our life time and HH and his government had to work hard to mitigate and indeed make sure no one dies of hunger. Here we are today the country is boasting of bumper harvest of maize.Dont listen to demagogues who are just interested in becoming president. There are people who are gifted in telling lies so my fellow Zambians let us be careful.

  3. Flash back…
President Hakainde Hichilema did not only promise that he will end Load Shedding, he even claimed to have ended Load Shedding in 2022.
He publicly went on a Podium and declared ” I have ended Load Shedding” in Zambia, an example of quality leadership which we promised the people of Zambia.
Two weeks later the Country was engulfed in total darkness.
The Chair person of the ZESCO Board had to Salvage him from Embarrassment by claiming the President had been misled.
Who is fooling who, Mr Gilbert Liswaniso?
    We don’t forget!

  4. Failure to understand simple logic is unfortunate.Zambia has been depending on hydro electricity, which is water dependant now if the country has no adequate water you expect the supply of power to be at it’s normal capacity? It is not good honestly to start calling each other names in this straight forward and self explaining situation. No water means dryness.Madness is when one expects to have water in ubandancy in the midst of drought.Probably we shall have LANIÑA and rains may be above normal then we may be comfortable with electricity. But too much rain may cause other challenges in agriculture then you point your finger at HH, no he has caused this and that.Let us think wisely country men and women.Let us give support to our hard working President and his government. We are in safe hands now.
