How will I work alone if my MPs and councillors won’t be retained – Hichilema

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has questioned how he would effectively govern the country if his Members of Parliament and councillors from the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) fail to retain their seats in the 2026 general elections.

Speaking during a meeting with Lusaka Province UPND officials at Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Kenneth Kaunda Wing, yesterday, President Hichilema expressed concern over growing sentiments suggesting that only the President would win while other party candidates would fall short.

“The story I’m hearing is that the President will win elections but Members of Parliament and councillors will not, so how will the President work alone?” questioned President Hichilema.

The Head of State noted that independent candidates or opposition-leaning representatives often fail to align with government directives, making it difficult to implement development agendas.

“If you give me independent candidates in Parliament, when I give them direction they are not complying. How is the President going to run the government? The President needs councillors, needs council chairpersons, mayors, MPs and Ministers,” said the Head of State.

President Hichilema emphasised that the collective success of UPND’s leadership, from councillors to ministers, is crucial for delivering services and achieving development goals.

The President urged party structures to strengthen cohesion, ensure accountability and work together ahead of the 2026 polls to guarantee that government initiatives reach all corners of the country.

  1. If CDF is a game Changer , as propaganda wants us to believe , surely Members of Parliament would just be pointing at the numerous Projects which they have done in the Constituencies due to this brilliant idea!

Why are the MPs bearing the brunt of the wrath of the people?

The issue is that CDF projects are too small, to be noticed by people. What is a
1 x 3 classroom block mwebantu? Or a 2 bedroomed house for a Police Officer in Mpika?
Look at the houses the Patriotic Front built for Police Officers in Lusaka, Kabwe, Ndola, Luanshya, Kitwe , Chingola and in many areas, and compare with a 2 bedroomed house under CDF!
The President opening a Pit Latrine in Kwacha, and you call that development!

The Patriotic Front did Health posts , Clinics, Mini Hospitals all over Zambia.

Talk of Schools, Universities, Airports, Township Roads, bridges, Dams, Fuel Reservoirs.

On Energy the Patriotic Front managed to double the Generation capacity to 3,200 MW.
Maamba Collieries Thermal plant (;300 MW) , Kafue Gorge Expansion ( 750 MW) were all done under the Patriotic Front. What has Mr Hakainde Hichilema done on Energy? The man cancelled all Solar Energy Contracts which were at implementation stage, when he came into Power! Even the Nuclear and Geothermal Units were disbanded.
Can you blame an MP for this????

He did this even in the Agricultural and Health Sectors causing Crises never before seen in Zambia..In the 2022/2023 farming season, after cancelling orders given to reputable suppliers, and giving the orders to Chushi Kasanda ‘s husband , by February farmers were still waiting for basal Dressing. And ultimately farmers started getting fertilizer in Medas.
In the health sector, it was the same. He cancelled Orders for Medicines and Drugs , and created massive shortages all over the country..He rushed to Egypt to get the medicines as the crisis was spiraling out of control, this ended up in private warehouses, rotting, expired and destroyed.
Can you blame an MP for this???

Look at how feeder roads were being done under the Patriotic Front.. Before the rain season, the roads were done through the projects under the Central Government. What is the situation now? Pathetic. The Rains are due in 2 weeks time, feeder roads not yet done.
Can you blame an MP for this???

And look at the so called Mines Mr Hakainde is claiming to be opening! Go to the mine and you will find nothing happening there..
Mr Hakainde Hichilema comes, brings crowds from everywhere, promises 5000 jobs for Shaft 28 in Luanshya. He disappears, and those jobs are still not there! Can you blame the MP for this?

Meanwhile Load Shedding destroys even the Few businesses which people can do!
Reason? Mr Hakainde has been exporting power from 2022.
Can you blame the MP for this???

The MPs and Councilors are just scapegoat s. It’s Mr Hakainde Hichilema himself who has messed up..And it’s him who should go.
Let him continue living an illusion that he will be spared..The man is history on 13th August, 2026.
