PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says he has refrained from traveling in order to help bring closure regarding the funeral of late former President Edgar Lungu.
The Head of State revealed that he has been engaging privately with the family of the late former President to find a way forward.
Speaking this morning during a meeting with the United States Ambassador to Zambia, Michael Gonzales, President Hichilema described the current situation as unfortunate.
“It’s not the way we respect the dead in our culture ,African culture. I believe it’s the same in many cultures. So we are looking for a solution in that direction. Quietly, we are talking to each other with the family,” he said.
President Hichilema also addressed social media speculation about his health, joking that he had seen posts suggesting he was unwell.
“I saw on social media , they think I’m dying tomorrow. Someone said, ‘Ah, he has not been seen at a traditional ceremony.’ Actually, at the traditional ceremony last weekend, I sent another minister to represent me,” he said.
Earlier, President Hichilema said Zambia is ready to reset its relations with the United States, focusing on changes in that country’s foreign policy.
He said Zambia is committed to leveraging the shift under the Donald Trump administration to build and advance the US-Zambia partnership.
The President also called for an expedited increase in US investment in Zambia’s key sectors, especially through joint ventures.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Gonzales noted that despite Zambia’s vast potential, the country has not attracted significant American investment.
“Despite the massive potential across this economy and nation, the business environment has not succeeded in attracting American businesses to spur that opportunity into reality. Others have exploited the environment, labor, and laws , at the cost of the Zambian people,” he said.
He added that the meeting was an opportunity to reset bilateral relations for mutual benefit.
“My team is committed to supporting Zambia in efforts to seize this moment, to act now, and to turn this relationship into one that delivers more tangibly and boldly for both our countries,” Mr Gonzales said.

Boza, bubela…
This Hakainde can not help himself but to tell lies every single time he talks. And his followers clap every time he lies. It is truly shocking, never seen this before anywhere ever. The Guiness Book of world records should list him as the greatest liar of all time, by far. No one can ever break that record, ever.
VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2026.
Honestly speaking the keeping of the body of late President ECL for political mileage doesn’t give respect for the late former former head of state. It is even causing people to share death certificate on social media surely and we must take that as normal. If any thing South African medical authority may even Wonder.Because some medical documents are not meant to be shared like that.It is our late President’s last medical documents showing like that. Please you keeping the body you are disgracing us.If we are not careful we may end up seeing some pictures of.Some people are seriously becoming irresponsible.
He lies in the morning, afternoon and at night…All the time he is lying.
This one is Anaza.
Only his legion of Praise Fools will clap at this.
The Agreement was there between the government as represented by secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa , with mediation from Bakili Muluzi and the ECL family…
Who started changing the goal posts? The same liar. He is the one who abrogated the Agreement and cancelled the Mourning period.
The family decides to bury in South Africa, he drags the widow to Court and stops the burial.
Some people never change. The Concourt has thrown out his Bill 7. He wants to bring it back again in September.
Even now, if the family accepts to bring the remains to Zambia, he will be back to his real self… The Lying Mingalatoon. They never change.
ECL should be put to rest I think it’s too much of a drama now, next time if we see the picture of his body online we should not be shocked I heard some people asking for proof of his body.
That’s what any responsible president can do, you cannot keep on paramburating here and there when your predecessor is still in the mortuary, it’s un African.
A genuine good man who means well for the country. Don’t listen to thieves who against the progress you are making. We will support you sir. These people have so much hatred that they even kill.Forward 2031 HH
Ba Citizen naba Musonda, on which planet do you live? HH has been a lier from day one. If you think HH will win 2026 elections you will be in for a rude shock. There is so much hypocrisy and devein this man. He takes the Lungu family to court, at some point he including the South African government and then he stands shamelessly before the US Ambassador to talk about how we mourn the dead in Africa? His conscience is completely sheered. He can’t tell the difference between the truth and a lie. Zambia has never and will never make this mistake again. The Zambia We Want – Diaspora London UK
Those that are used to fast money will always not appreciate long term planning. They say Rome was not built in a day, and wise people understand that.
The fact that HH promised a lot of things does not mean he was going to do everything in just one term, it takes time. It is showing signs of recovery and while PF took the economy and governance on a downward spiral, things are looking up. There is order and peace in this country now and one thing for sure is that PF and their cronies thrive in confusion.
Don’t forget you are dealing with a sober man while your rantings are more like resolutions or illusions grown while in a drunken stupor.
Look. Even a barren woman who has been promised she will have a child will not expect that child to give her grand children three years after bearing that child. That is madness of some kind.
Even those that have money will no work up one morning and say I want a mansion built here in one day and boom, the morning comes and there is a mansion. Wisdom demands that Zambians must look at things in a realistic manner.
As for rumours of sickness, those doomsayers are just exposing their wishes.
When you have a good leader, accept and appreciate God for bringing you a leader who yearns for peace, normalcy.and equitable distribution of wealth.
What is happening in Kasama Council is a betrayal of the people. The leadership there is bent on painting a bad picture about CDF, yet the money is there. Such are the enemies of progress, and not HH.
These are the people that want Citizens to think that UPND is not working, yet they are just shooting themselves in the foot and causing the people to suffer. HH will never suffer even if he were to lose power today, he is comfortable.
So, let’s be real.
