LCC INTENSIFIES DRAINAGE WORKS TO MITIGATE FLOODING AND SAFEGUARD PUBLIC HEALTH

The Council has intensified works to unblock drainages across the city that have been heavily clogged with plastic waste due to indiscriminate littering and illegal dumping of solid waste.

This irresponsible practice is detrimental to the environment, causes flooding and predisposes our communities to outbreaks of diseases such as cholera.

Works have commenced on critical roads including Mumbwa Road, Kalwisha Bwalya Road and Freedom Way, blocking off the two main drains that channel water into Ngwenya Dam in Kuku and Misisi Compounds, and desilting of the Lumumba drain from the Mumbwa Road junction.

Let us work together to keep Lusaka clean. Desist from throwing litter in undesignated places and from dumping solid waste illegally, especially in drainages.
