MOTHER OF 5 VOWS TO PURSUE SECONDARY EDUCATION DREAM

A 31 year old mother of five children in Chongwe District, Lusaka Province, has returned to complete her senior secondary school program after dropping out in 2007 to get married.

Miran Chilanga who has now continued in Grade 10 revealed that her first born child was currently in Grade 9 whilst her second son is doing his eighth grade at the same school.

She said the decision to return to school was motivated by the Government’s Free Education Policy and the Re-ntry Policy which had no age limit.

Chilanga thanked Kapete Secondary School management for supporting her and the children.

She was hopeful that she would be a nurse if she completed her education career.

Chilanga appealed to well wishers to assist her with a new bicycle as she could not be in boarding because of parenting responsibilities.

She urged citizens that had no opportunity to complete their secondary education to take advantage of the Free Education Policy and the Re-ntry Policy to advance themselves academically.

Meanwhile, teachers at the school indicated that the mother turned pupil and her children were performing exceptionally well academically.

“At 31, I have decided to get back into school and revive my childhood dream of becoming a nurse. I cover a distance of 9 kilometers to get to school every day with my 12 year old son,” Chilanga said.

She urged other women to ensure they get an education even if they wanted to be farmers or get into formal employment.
