…..No One Hates You, Infact Zambians Love You So Much that 59% Gave their Votes!

Dr. Grieve Chelwa, Associate Professor of Political Economy & Chair of Social Sciences at The Africa Institute, UAE, Wrote….

Mr. President, please stop this reckless and dangerous talk. You were voted into office by the third biggest majority (at 59%) since our country’s return to multiparty politics in 1991.

And you obtained this in the first round of voting going up against 15 opponents. These are numbers that the likes of Michael Sata and Levy Mwanawasa, giants of the post-1991 dispensation, could only dream of.

The people love you and they showed their love in the most convincing way possible in 2021.

Please stop this pity party and be the personification of the people’s aspirations – the reason why you were resoundingly voted into office in the first place.

A great many of our citizens are feeling let down by you on many fronts, not least of all is your government’s sinister intention to bulldoze through a constitution review process that doesn’t have popular support. It is not about you.

It is about the future of the country that we all love and care deeply about. A country that will continue to exist long after we are all gone.

You were given a rare and overwhelming mandate to lead the affairs of this country in the direction of justice, equality and fairness.

Please rise to the occasion and stop
letting the people down. That is all we are asking for.

  1. I fail to understand how even the so called educated people fail to understand simple statements. The president did not say all Zambians hate him, but he talked about a few people who no matter what he does they will find a way talk bad about him personally, not his performance. May be this doctor does not read some comments on social media where some people do not talk about his failures, but they instead talk about him in a dreaming man and even involve his tribe, surely, if you can’t see that, then you are blind.

    • By the way, to say nobody hates you shows lack of understanding human nature and it’s a sign of someone living in fool’s paradise. The fact is that everyone, including the doctor himself who wrote this article has haters, not because he has done anything wrong to those people, but because some people are just like that, he may just know it that some people hate. Some do it out envy, others because of jealousy, and others because of other many reasons known to themselves.

  2. This is exactly what we say about these regrouping forces.Look at this word he used “misango”, they don’t have any thing to say but screaming words and headlines to undermine UPND and the President. This Chelwa has not said anything that one can appreciate. These are the same characters that would want HH to lose. One good thing is HH still has numbers. His work is speaking for him. They may not understand that HH and his government have done a lot just in four years. The PF worked for more than ten years with two Presidents there in and they want to compare with one President and only four years that is rigmarole.President HH came in power while encountering some challenges of huge debt, high unemployment, unpaid retirees, challenges in education with less teachers and no desks and infrastructure, you add climate change that brought the worst drought ever experienced. We are still experiencing the effects of that drought. The government had to enforce some mitigation strategies to reduce the sufferings of the vulnerable people who were hit hard.We have no time for liars and we shall meet them squarely. This Chelwa is just exhibiting the hate being talked about.

    • Would not be surprised if one hundred nkunku and this man are the same.
Is this not the same man that failed to prove his point when he was challenged by Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane on some absurd figures he gave?
This man acts like he is not educated. Really what is his point of view? To deflect and make the issue the President raise about loadshedding or the achievements he with his collegues have attained or the fact that he open to dialogue? There letters to prove that the amendments are not an issue that is UPND driven, but a sign that he listens.
Chelelwa should speak to economic matters where he an expert. Or so suggests. Is the Standard and Poor rating not an achievement?
How can Zambia sustain its forex if the mines are not productive if investors pull out cause the dractors that these protestors want to perperuate? Is bloodbath that Bishop Banda the answer and an objective sort of picture he can utter? These desparate attempts to grab attention lack foresight and are counter productive.
So in saying all this what has made the Presser about HH? Petty and immature if an entire so called Professor can make such a poor assessment or synopsis and call himself a perceptive person.

  3. Phrase more appropriately: Dr Crieve Chelwa do not say “No one hate you HH but there are some people who hate him. That is why the same people have not given him chance to freely rule this country. They always want what they think should be done and if it done by HH it is always taken negatively.

  4. So if HH is replaced, then the next day we will all have Christmas lights from Zesco, amongst other things?
Come on people. Be real here.
Rome was not built in a day. The Prof is giving out constructive criticism here. There’s nothing wrong with that. Why is it that some people always have negative things to say?? Have you ever led a country? Why don’t you try it?
No human being is perfect and that includes you!

  5. Playing a Tonga Hatred Victim by Mr Hakainde Hichilema is Tribalism and should be condemned by all well meaning Zambians. And any one buying into this narrative is equally practicing Tribalism.
We have had Presidents before, and no one had elevated Ethnicity to such a level like the way Mr Hakainde Hichilema is doing.
And to the Tonga speaking people, don’t allow your tribe to be abused the way Mr Hakainde Hichilema is doing..You are inadvertently inviting hate, and people will be hesitant to give another Tonga chance to rule this country.
Who would ever want to have a President who when he is Criticized, he attributes the criticism to ethnicity?
Southern Province has been held captive by the UPND from it’s inception. No Tonga can criticize Hakainde.
If Hakainde is wrong on policies, governance, the Tonga speaking people need to criticize him. The Constitutional Amendment Process is clearly flawed.
Why is it so difficult for Tongas to Criticize him?
Only then will he know that the criticism against him is not ethnic.
Other President when wrong were criticized by Tribesmaids, even from the same Village.
We are going into elections next year. If Hakainde is allowed to go into elections with the Tribal Card, swallowed by his Tribesmaids, Zambia is doomed..for when he loses, he and his followers can claim the so called Tonga Hatred Card as being responsible. This is how countries Disintegrate. Hakainde should be called out. The scheme he has embarked on is dangerous.

    • This is nonsense. I just have no other word to use to describe this trash. Characters who come here mindless of truth and facts. So what other ways did you want HH to describe the current sutuation created by his haters other than the way he described it? Is HH’s Brain Operating system same as that of yours? If not, why would you want him to use exact words that would please you in describing the reality of the existence people who hate him on tribal lines? So he should not complain about the tribalism directed at him just bcos doing so acvording to you, will be interpreted as tribalism. See why i call your thought lines as nonsense. Thats Rubbish. You tribalists have always been hiding on the silence of the majority in condemning and facing your tribalism the way HH faced you head on yesterday. So you are agitated in your cocoon of tribal hate! You couldnt believe there cud be such blant exposure of your evil vice. Fast at calling others tribalists but expecting to be left untouched even as you spew tribalism at the levels of that which led to Ruanda genocide. We will not allow you to have your ugly way. We will continue to speak, and expose you. After all who are you? Nothing different from the rest but busy thinking you are superior. No wonder HH says that attitude is only on your mind. We cant see your superiority when we look at you. Your tribalism stinks, sucks. Yet we remain strong and resolute in standing against your species.
      Viva HH
      Viva the Nation of Zambia

    • @One Hundred Thousand Kwacha NKUKU Man, come on, you can do better than this. Please don’t bury your head in the sand. Didn’t you hear the late former president ECL say one day a tonga will become president, but not this one, referring to president HH when he was in opposition? Why did he have to talk about tongas, not just president HH? Didn’t you also hear hon. Davis Mwila say it will take 20 years for tongas to have a president of Zambia? I can give several other examples of leaders, especially from PF who made tribal comments when talking about president HH. All this is on record. Now tell me which president has received tribal remarks?

    • All we’re seeing here is Tonga this…Tonga that…..Tonga…Tonga…. Tonga… Tonga and on and on.! So, tell us, from the sound of this Tonga drumming who is the tribalist in all this subjective narrative??
Honestly, shame on you. I mean, even if you’re trying to put your opinions across, is that all you have to offer?

  6. The problem is with the UPND communication system. They have allowed themselves to be drowned by the vocal fringe, whether it is PF propaganda machinery or religious leaders. On the whole HH has performed very well considering the poor state we fell into during PF rule.

However, UPND have failed to effectively communicate this to the general population despite being in power. They are reactive and allow their opponents to set the agenda.

Like the author of the article has pointed out, HH won 59% of the vote. This was inspite of him not being allowed to campaign. So the President should focus on the 59% and work to push that to 65%. UPND must work hard to effectively communicate to the voters then come 2026, those vocal clergy will be shamed.

The President should also remember that when he was being hounded by the PF, there were clergy from the Catholic Church who stood by him. Like Archbishop Tresphore Mpundu and Bishop Lungu of Chipata. Not forgetting Ms. Linda Kasonde and Ms. Laura Miti.

The majority of Zambians donot really care that the President is from Southern Province and that is why we voted for HH. So Mr. President, you will never walk alone.
