Nobody in their right senses would support DEC for summoning Alick Banda – Kambwili
ACID-mouthed PF member Chishimba Kambwili says nobody in their right senses would support the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for summoning Lusaka Archdiocese Archbishop Alick Banda.
In an interview, Kambwili said Archbishop Banda’s case had been blown out of proportion by the commission.
He said the summoning of the clergyman should have been handled behind closed doors, without unnecessary drama.
Yesterday, the Archbishop was summoned by the Commission over a Toyota Hilux he received as a gift from his PF comrades back in 2021 which was reportedly acquired dubiously.
Kambwili accused the UPND of interfering in church affairs and attempting to intimidate individuals with opposing views.
He further said the Catholic Church would rise in support of its leader, adding that many men of God and traditional leaders had received gifts in the past without being questioned.
“There is nobody in their normal senses who would support what has happened. The Catholic Church works as one, touch one priest, touch one bishop, and you touch all of us. Whoever touches the anointed ones touches everybody,” he said.
“We shall not allow politics to interfere with the running of the church. What has happened to the bishop is unfortunate. These are issues that should be handled away from the cameras, devoid of drama, but the government has decided to play politics over a matter in which a man was gifted. How many men of God have received gifts in this country? How many chiefs have done so?”

The government claims it has strong evidence against the Archbishop. Well arrest him and take him to court. The ball is in Hakainde’s Court.

The courts of law have locked up some workers for this alleged crime of misapplication of public assets.
By the way in whose name was this vehicle put in? Was it in the name of the Catholic Church? No in an individual who was rightly summoned by DEC to give his side of the story. By the way who else do you think was going to be called, your neighbor? This is stupid crazy.
This was not imagined. The facts are all part of court proceedings where individuals were implicated to have bought these assets while infact they did not. This is the matter at hand.
I think the problem we have now is that you guys in the opposition can not differentiate when you need to act as sworn political partners and when to play supportive innocent friends.
You seem to be mixing your roles. Is the Bishop your politcial partner or Religious leader for all Catholic members. Remember some of the members in the Catholic church love the President and will vote for him. Therefore how can this be a fight with the whole Catholic Church. You guys are lairs.
The truth of the matter is that all this while you have been actually playing politics with the Bishop on your side. Now you are confused and are openly stating that the Bishop is a political partner who you favored with a suspicious gift . Too bad the cat is out of the bag, thanks to you very loud mouths. You basically spread his invitation by the DRC all over social media and internationally. And now as truth begins its walk great will be the fall.
Unfortunately it is very clear to well meaning citizens that no politics can be seen from our side. Instead we only see a sensible approach to the trail as observed by the paper work and the licence issued for the vehicle to a private citizen. Guys wake up please this is not about politics but about being caught pants down with you hand on the cookie Jar.

Simple advise to the Bishops of the Catholic Church, please de-escalate this unnecessary drama. Take charge of this unfortunate issue. Get rid of the politicians who have the potential of permanently messing up the little reputation left of the man of the cloth.
Humbly engage with the State , pull the religious organisation out of this incriminating saga and maybe agree on some amicable terms with government.
Then to show some sort of integrity with the members of the church by administratively handling some disciplinary action on the Bishop. Let him go on a sabbatical of some sort to cool off. The current action being taken by his political team cheer players will have irrepairable damage on the image of the Catholic Church. Kindly consider this simple solution to a complicated matter which will affect posterity.
