TRUMP CUTS MIGRATION, CENSUS DATA

TRUMP CUTS MIGRATION, CENSUS DATA SHOWS RISING AMERICAN LEVERAGE

For years, many Americans felt like the border was out of control and their voices didn’t matter.

Wages stayed flat, costs exploded, and it seemed like nothing in Washington ever really changed.

Now, a quiet but powerful shift is showing up in the numbers.

New Census data says President Trump is on pace to bring annual migration down to about 321,000 by June 2026 — a dramatic pullback compared to the chaos of recent years.

But here’s what most people missed: this isn’t just about numbers at the border.

When migration slows, the balance of power in the economy starts to tilt back toward the American worker, not the political donor or the multinational CEO.

Meanwhile, experts are admitting something our side has said for years: this isn’t some force of nature.

Policy matters.

When a president actually chooses to defend the border and put citizens first, immigration flows fall, wages can rise, and politicians are forced to focus on fixing problems here at home.

This is what America First looks like in real life — not anger, but quiet strength, restoring leverage to ordinary people.

Taliban Criminal Code Allows Child Abüse, Sl@very & Exécutïons, Says Rights Group

Taliban Criminal Code Allows Child Abüse, Sl@very & Exécutïons, Says Rights Group

The human rights organisation Rawadari says the Taliban have failed to fully criminalise the beating of children under their criminal courts’ code of procedure.

According to the organisation, Article 30 of the code prohibits only certain forms of physical violence that result in “bone fractures” or “tearing of the skin”.

The code does not explicitly ban other forms of physical, psychological or sexual violence against children. Article 48 states that a father may punish his 10-year-old son for actions such as neglecting prayers.

Taliban Code Recognises Slavery

Rawadari says the Taliban’s criminal code recognises slavery by repeatedly using the term “slave”. Articles 15 and 4 of the code refer to slavery and related rights.

Slavery is absolutely prohibited under international law in all its forms.

One provision states: “For any crime for which no fixed ‘hudud’ punishment is prescribed, discretionary punishment shall be imposed, whether the offender is free or a slave.”

Taliban Courts’ Code Prescribes Death for Opponents

According to the Taliban courts’ code, one copy of which has been obtained by Afghanistan International, the Taliban have issued death sentences for individuals described as “rebels”. The code states that the harm caused by a “rebel” is public in nature and cannot be remedied without killing.

This provision grants judicial bodies the authority to sentence opponents and critics to death. Article 4, Clause 6, allows citizens to personally punish individuals if they witness a “sin” being committed.

The code states: “Any Muslim who sees a person committing a sin has the right to punish them.”

Another provision says: “Anyone who witnesses or becomes aware of subversive meetings by opponents of the system but fails to inform the relevant authorities is considered a criminal and shall be sentenced to two years in prison.”

CAF has thrown out Morocco’s complaint, and the disciplinary outcome does not affect the 2025 AFCON final scoreline

CAF has thrown out Morocco’s complaint, and the disciplinary outcome does not affect the 2025 AFCON final scoreline.

Everything remains intact.

Senegal remains the rightful African champion.

Moroccan midfielder Ismaël Saibari has been handed a 3-match suspension in official CAF competitions for unsporting behaviour.

He has also been fined $100,000.

Another disciplinary blow for Morocco as CAF maintains a firm stance on conduct.

Morocco star Achraf Hakimi has been suspended for 2 official CAF matches following disciplinary action for unsporting behaviour.

▪️ One match is immediate
▪️ One match is suspended for 1 year from the date of the decision.

Two Senegal players have been sanctioned following disciplinary proceedings.

• Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye: suspended for 2 official CAF matches for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

• Ismaïla Sarr: suspended for 2 official CAF matches for unsporting behaviour towards the referee.

Senegal head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw has been handed a 5-match suspension from all official CAF competitions.

CAF says the decision is due to unsporting conduct, violating disciplinary principles of fair play, integrity, and for bringing the game into disrepute.

He has also been fined $100,000.

SENEGAL BOSS THIAW BANNED AFTER AFCON FINAL CHAOS

SENEGAL BOSS THIAW BANNED AFTER AFCON FINAL CHAOS

SENEGAL manager Pape Thiaw has been banned for five games after the chaotic scenes during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco this month.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) issued Thiaw with a $100,000 (£72,000) fine, saying he was guilty of “unsporting conduct” and “bringing the game into disrepute”.

It was one of a number of fines handed out, totalling almost £1m, following the game.

The final on 18 January in Rabat, which Senegal went on to win 1-0, descended into disarray when Senegal’s players left the field after Morocco were awarded a stoppage-time penalty.

Thiaw, still incensed by the referee’s decision moments before to blow for a foul on Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi before Ismaila Sarr headed in, instructed his players to leave the field.

The match was delayed by about 17 minutes before Senegal forward Sadio Mane convinced his team-mates to return to the pitch.

Brahim Diaz’s Panenka penalty was saved by Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, and referee Jean-Jacques Ndala then immediately blew the whistle for full-time.

Pape Gueye scored the winning goal in the fourth minute of extra time to seal a second Afcon triumph in five years for Senegal.

Senegal forwards Iliman Ndiaye and Sarr received two-match bans for “unsporting behaviour towards the referee”, while the Senegal Football Federation (FSF) was fined a total of $615,000 (£444,000).

Morocco forward Ismael Saibari was given a three-match ban and fined $100,000 (£72,000), while defender Hakimi was handed a two-match ban, with one game suspended for 12 months.

A bid by Morocco’s football federation (FRMF) to have the result of the match overturned after Senegal players left the pitch was dismissed by CAF’S disciplinary committee.

The bans for Thiaw and the four players relate to CAF matches only and will not impact preparation for the World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Fines for fan behaviour and towel scuffles
The FSF was fined $600,000 (£434,000) for breaches of Caf’s disciplinary code, with half of that sum relating to the unsporting conduct of Senegal players and technical staff, while the other $300,000 was for the improper conduct of its supporters.

Several Teranga Lions fans were involved in angry confrontations with security staff after the penalty award, with some trying to enter the pitch.

A further $15,000 ($11,000) fine was imposed after Thiaw’s side received five bookings during the final.

Meanwhile, the FRMF has been fined $200,000 (£144,000) for the “inappropriate behaviour” of ball boys at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, after repeated attempts to steal the towel of Senegal keeper Mendy from behind his goal.

A sum of $100,000 must be paid after Atlas Lions players and staff invaded the video assistant referee review area and obstructed referee Ndala’s work, and the FRMF has also been fined $15,000 for use of lasers by its supporters.

Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane (second left) has been handed a two-game ban for misconduct after their Afcon 2025 quarter-final exit

The sanctions from the final follow on from Algeria’s football federation (FAF) being fined a total of $100,000 last week for six breaches of Caf regulations during the side’s Afcon quarter-final exit at the hands of Nigeria.

Half of that sum was for “offensive and abusive gestures committed by its supporters” towards the match officials, including displaying banknotes.

Faf was also fined $25,000 for the “inappropriate behaviour” of its players and officials at the end of the match, which the Fennecs lost 2-0.

Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane has been banned for two games for misconduct, while right-back Rafik Belghali has received a four-game ban – with two games suspended for 12 months – for “aggressive and intimidating behaviour towards the match referee” after the full-time whistle.

The further FAF fines are $10,000 for failing to comply with security measures and three separate fines of $5,000 for throwing of objects by supporters, the use of smoke devices by fans and for receiving five yellow cards during the game in Marrakech.

Iran Says ‘Fingers on the Trigger’ as U.S. Military Buildup Intensifies Under Trump

Iran Says ‘Fingers on the Trigger’ as U.S. Military Buildup Intensifies Under Trump

Iran has placed its military forces on heightened alert, warning that its “fingers are on the trigger” in response to what it describes as an expanding U.S. military buildup in the region, according to a report by ABC News.

The warning comes amid escalating rhetoric and growing tensions following renewed hardline messaging from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Senior Iranian military officials stated that Tehran is closely monitoring American troop movements, naval deployments, and air activity near Iran’s borders.

Iranian commanders emphasized that while the country does not seek war, it is fully prepared to respond immediately to any hostile action. The remarks were framed as a deterrent message aimed at Washington rather than an announcement of imminent offensive action.

According to the report, U.S. military assets in the Middle East have increased in recent weeks, including strategic bombers, naval forces, and air defense systems.

American officials argue the deployments are defensive in nature, intended to protect U.S. forces and allies amid regional instability. However, Iranian officials interpret the buildup as a direct threat to national security.

Iranian leaders also accused Washington of fueling instability through pressure tactics, sanctions, and military signaling. They reiterated that any strike against Iranian territory or forces would trigger a swift and decisive response, potentially expanding the conflict beyond bilateral confrontation.

The renewed tensions come at a time when diplomatic channels between Tehran and Washington remain limited, with no clear framework for de-escalation currently in place. Analysts warn that miscalculation on either side could rapidly escalate into a broader regional crisis involving U.S. allies and Iranian-aligned groups across the Middle East.

PLANE CRASH IN COLOMBIA KILLS 15, INCLUDING POLITICIAN

PLANE CRASH IN COLOMBIA KILLS 15, INCLUDING POLITICIAN

A plane crash in northeast Colombia on Wednesday killed all 15 people on board, including a local lawmaker, state-run airline Satena said.

The Beechcraft 1900 twin-engined turboprop plane took off before noon from Cucuta, on the border with Venezuela, for a short flight to the town of Ocana, Satena said.

Air traffic control lost contact with the plane 12 minutes into the flight, the carrier added.

Satena did not say what caused the crash and said the plane’s emergency beacon had not been activated.

Lawmaker Diogenes Quintero and members of his team were aboard the plane, as well as Carlos Salcedo, a candidate for Congress ahead of elections in March, according to a passenger list released by the airline.

Images released by local media showed the crashed plane, including what appeared to be significant damage to the fuselage.

The area where the plane crashed is a mountainous region planted with coca leaves, the raw material for cocaine, and where illegal armed groups such as the National Liberation Army and a dissident faction of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia operate.

FEDERAL AGENTS INVOLVED IN FATAL SHOOTING OF ALEX PRETTI IN MINNEAPOLIS PLACED ON LEAVE

FEDERAL AGENTS INVOLVED IN FATAL SHOOTING OF ALEX PRETTI IN MINNEAPOLIS PLACED ON LEAVE

TWO federal agents involved in the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis have been placed on leave, law enforcement officials tell the BBC

Pretti, a US citizen, was shot and killed on Saturday in an incident which has sparked ongoing protests

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump warns Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is “playing with fire” after Frey said “Minneapolis does not and will not enforce federal immigration laws”

Responding to Trump’s post on social media, Frey says “The job of our police is to keep people safe, not enforce fed immigration laws”

Trump’s comments come after Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar was attacked at an event she was hosting on Tuesday, when an audience member used a syringe to spray an unknown liquid at her

Omar, a Democrat who has frequently clashed with the Trump administration over its immigration policies, was not hurt and continued to speak

Events in Minnesota continue to dominate the headlines following the deaths of two US citizens this month, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were fatally shot by US immigration enforcement agents.

Two officers involved in the altercation that led to Pretti’s shooting have now been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

“Border tsar” Tom Homan arrived in Minneapolis on Wednesday to run immigration enforcement operations after the departure of Greg Bovino, who was commanding border patrol agents before the death of Pretti. Homan will hold a press conference on Thursday morning.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi also arrived in the city on Wednesday, announcing that 16 people have been arrested charged with allegedly assaulting federal officers and impeding on federal immigration enforcement.

Meanwhile, a federal judge in Minneapolis ordered the government to release all refugees who have been arrested by immigration agents while awaiting their permanent residency documents.

In a strongly-worded ruling, Judge John Tunheim said refugees “are not committing crimes on our streets, nor did they illegally cross the border,” adding that the US had been “a haven of individual liberties”.

“We abandon that ideal when we subject our neighbors to fear and chaos,” he said. He ordered that refugees taken out of Minnesota be returned to the state.

Opposition to the Trump administration’s policies has not been confined to Minnesota. In Texas, clashes erupted between protesters and state and federal officers outside a detention facility where some of those detained in Minnesota has been taken.

Democrats in Congress are demanding immediate reforms to immigration enforcement and for the removal of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. They plan to press ahead with impeachment proceedings against Noem if she doesn’t resign or isn’t sacked by Trump.

The fallout from the government’s handling of Good and Pretti’s killings also adds to the possibility of a federal shutdown as key Democrats have signalled they will not support a new spending package that increases funding for ICE.

Has Hichilema Bought Mundubile too?

🇿🇲 EDITORIAL | Has Hichilema Bought Mundubile too?

The Patriotic Front is once again reaching for a familiar refuge: blaming President Hakainde Hichilema for its internal collapse. Brian Mundubile’s takeover of the Tonse Alliance has triggered the same reflex that followed the Miles Sampa episode in 2023 and the Robert Chabinga phase that came after it. Each time, PF insists the ruling party is “using” someone to kill the opposition. Each time, the party avoids the harder question: why is it so easy for PF to be taken over from within?

This pattern is now too consistent to dismiss as coincidence.

When Miles Sampa staged his October 2023 takeover of PF, the party said it was a State project. Police presence at Mulungushi was cited as proof. When Sampa later lost control to Robert Chabinga, PF said Chabinga had been bought. Now that Brian Mundubile has emerged through the Tonse Alliance route, the same accusation has been recycled. Three leaders in three years. Same explanation. Different actors.

At some point, the conspiracy collapses under its own weight.

If everyone who rises in PF can be “used,” then the problem is not infiltration. It is vacancy. A party without clear succession rules, without uncontested authority, and without institutional discipline creates space for coups. Power does not need to be stolen when it is lying on the floor.

Mundubile’s manoeuvre does not look new. It looks familiar. Zambia has seen this script before. After Michael Sata’s death in 2014, Edgar Lungu rose to the PF presidency through a contested, chaotic process that sidelined Miles Sampa. At the time, it was defended as political realism. Fast forward a decade and the same tactics are now being denounced as betrayal. The method has not changed. Only the moral language has.

This raises a deeper question PF refuses to answer: what exactly is the Tonse Alliance?

Is it an alliance of political parties, civil society organisations, churches, individuals, or all of the above? If Tonse is not a registered political party, how does it elect a president? If it uses a political party as a special purpose vehicle, what is the legal and political status of that vehicle relative to other members? Can any party simply be absorbed? Can individuals acquire seats without organisational mandates?

These questions are not academic. They determine legitimacy, nominations, campaign financing, and ballot access.

Mundubile’s election exposes these structural gaps. Does his elevation mean he has resigned from the PF? If not, who does he answer to? If yes, what happens to the PF MPs who have aligned with him? Does PF intend to formally release its members to Tonse, or will it pivot and recognise Robert Chabinga’s faction instead? Silence on these issues deepens confusion and weakens the opposition’s credibility.

PF’s own history explains the crisis more convincingly than any State project narrative. The party has never developed a stable succession culture. Leadership transitions have been transactional, personality-driven, and often enforced through brute political manoeuvre. While in power, the party held together through access to state resources. Out of power, the cracks are no longer patched over.

Claims that UPND is orchestrating PF’s implosion may resonate emotionally with a frustrated base, but they do not stand up structurally. At most, the ruling party acts as a catalyst. PF supplies the fuel.

The danger now is escalation. Reports that some PF old guards are preparing to refer Mundubile to law enforcement over alleged abuse of public funds during his tenure as Northern Province Minister point to a familiar cycle. Once investigations begin, the narrative will again shift to persecution. Accountability will be framed as political victimhood. Institutions will be blamed for doing their jobs.

This is how opposition credibility erodes.

The hard truth is this: PF is fighting PF. Tonse Alliance is not resolving PF’s succession crisis; it is exporting it. Until the opposition confronts its internal contradictions honestly, no amount of blaming the State will restore coherence.

Voters are watching closely. They are less interested in who is betraying whom, and more interested in whether the opposition can organise itself into a serious alternative government. Right now, the answer remains uncertain.

And uncertainty, not repression, is the opposition’s greatest enemy.

I DON’T FEEL GUILTY ABOUT 2023 ILLEGAL CONVENTION – MILES SAMPA

I DON’T FEEL GUILTY ABOUT 2023 ILLEGAL CONVENTION – SAMPA

MATERO PF MP Miles Sampa says he does not feel guilty about the illegal convention that he held in 2023, stating that the current PF wrangles cannot be attributed to that convention.

Meanwhile, Sampa says many people have told him that he is destined to rule this country, adding that it may not happen this year or in 2031 but he believes that it will happen someday.

Asked when he featured on Diamond TV, Monday, if he felt guilty and that he was to blame for the current internal wrangles in PF, Sampa said, “No. I’ve heard some politicians talk about that, when I hear that, I just say these are amateurs”.

“When you hear any politician talk about 2023 convention, just know that they are weak politicians, they have no people following them and they use that as an excuse. The real problem of the PF started when we lost power in 2021 general election.

I played my part in Matero, I got stabbed there fighting for votes for Edgar Lungu but we are a team and we lost, I’m part of the blame, together with everyone, only weak people try to blame others. That was the beginning of the problem; we can only correct that problem with the next general election.

Problems made in a general election, you correct them after five years. If that was the problem, why did the people of Chawama listen to me, why were they happy to see me, why did we deliver? PF is not a piece of paper, we have proved it in Chawama,” Sampa said.

“Go back to debates in Parliament or when the Bill [Cyber Crimes Act] was brought, I’m probably one of the few that spoke out against it. I believe, if one day, and a lot of people have told me that they think it’s in my destiny to rule this country one day, if it’s not 2026, it’s 2031, if it’s not, another year, they believe so and I have reason to believe so and with being put in the cells, those reasons are just being validated.

These are some of the Bills I’ll ensure that they are removed instantly, let the people talk, let the people say as they want. President HH, that’s what he advocated for, he condemned president ECL that stop this cyber law stopping people from speaking on Facebook, on TikTok, on Instagram, let them speak, whether it’s a lie or not, it’s freedom of speech, the people will make their choice and they made their choice in 2021, so you cannot guard people [on how] to speak”.

Sampa further said UPND had been trying to create a by-election in Matero but the ruling party would never win an election in that constituency.

“I now consider myself MP of Lusaka city. I’m MP of Chawama, Matero, Kanyama, Lusaka Central, Munali [and] Kabwata. In Matero, the only chance UPND had to win in Matero was in 2021 when they had [Tom] Michelo and when the wind of change was on their side and HH. It was a hard battle, we fought. Had PF put another candidate other than me, we would have lost that seat, like they lost in Kabwata, like PF lost in Lusaka Central, Munali, Kanyama but we fought hard.

Even now, they’ve always wanted to cause a by-election in Matero, they bring up this, they bring up this, they take this to court, they use surrogates, they use Chabinga or Ng’ona to create a by-election there,” said Sampa.

“Even now, there’s a judgment coming up next few days (today), if that judgment will be that there’s a by-election in Matero or otherwise, let me tell you something, UPND, as a ruling party, will never win Matero. If they cause a by-election between now and……they’ll not win a by-election there, whether it’s me standing there again or any other.

There are many individuals there, there’s Celestine [Mukandila], there’s councillor [Patrick] Salubusa, councillor Lee Mukupa, councillor Annie [Chinyanta], councillor [Chrispin] Kabole, there’s [David] Kakoma, those individuals, one of them there, if it’s not me, any by-election, 2026, the ruling party UPND will not win Matero. They said they would win Chawama, I said they would lose and they lost”.

WE HAVE OUTSMARTED PF- Mundubile’s Tonse Alliance

WE HAVE OUTSMARTED PF-DR LAWRENCE MWELWA

Faction Tonse Alliance Spokesperson, Dr. Lawrence Mwelwa Writes:

By Dr Mwelwa

Politics is cruel to those who mistake noise for power and nostalgia for strategy. The Lubinda-led PF faction is now living through a double tragedy of its own making: first, being frozen by the courts; second, being outpaced by history. When the Kabwe High Court reaffirmed the injunction restraining PF from holding a convention, it did more than stop a meeting—it exposed a movement stuck in yesterday while the board has already changed.

Enter Brian Mundubile. While others were busy arguing about legality, ownership, and who sits where, Mundubile quietly ate lunch. Not out of malice, but out of timing. Leadership is not about shouting the loudest; it is about knowing when the door is closing and choosing the window. Tonse Alliance became that window. By the time the Lubinda faction looked up, the plate was empty, and the question sounded painfully familiar: who moved my cheese?

This is where strategy separates adults from spectators. Sun Tzu warned that victory belongs to those who understand terrain and timing. Tonse Alliance read the weather. It saw the legal storm gathering over PF and chose movement over paralysis. The postponement of the Congress—derided by some as retreat—was in fact misdirection. In war, you sometimes step back so the opponent steps into thin air. Online threats of injunctions came; Tonse adjusted, absorbed pressure, and kept momentum. That is mingalato at its finest: advance without collision, win without chaos.

The tragedy for the Lubinda faction is philosophical. Power was treated as inheritance, not stewardship. Conventions were delayed, authority personalized, succession feared. When a leader publicly signals he cannot hand over because “no one is better,” he confesses not strength but insecurity. History does not wait for comfort. It rewards courage.

Brian Mundubile’s rise is therefore not an accident; it is a consequence. He chose law over drama, coalition over captivity, movement over mourning. Congratulations are due—not as flattery, but as recognition of judgment under pressure. Politics done properly looks boring until it wins.

And credit must also go where courage was required most: Professor Dan Pule. It takes a rare leader to hold the middle when factions pull apart, to choose unity when ego tempts spectacle. His steadiness kept the bridge standing long enough for others to cross.

The lesson is simple and old. Those who cling to the past ask who ate their cheese. Those who read the future are already cooking the next meal. Tonse Alliance did not steal lunch; it planned dinner.

LOSS IBABA, CRIES LISWANISO

LOSS IBABA, CRIES LISWANISO

ALMOST two weeks after a parliamentary by-election was held in Lusaka’s Chawama Constituency, the United Party for National Development (UPND) is still reeling from its shocking defeat at the hands of a fragmented opposition.

The ruling party’s leaders and members are still struggling to come to terms with what could have led to the opposition’s victory

“We lost in Chawama because people felt that the former Member of Parliament, Tasila Lungu, was victimised by the United Party for National Development ,” UPND national youth chairman Gilbert Liswaniso has said.

Liswaniso said it was difficult for the UPND to penetrate Chawama Constituency because the Patriotic Front (PF) support base was still very active and strong in the area.

Opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) candidate Bright Nundwe, a former Copperbelt permanent secretary who was supported by Tonse Alliance, defeated UPND’s Morgan Muunda with a comfortable margin.

Speaking when he featured on Showster’s House podcast programme, Liswaniso said the ruling party lost the Chawama by-election because of public perception that it was too vindictive.

“First of all, my colleague, it is politics. You win, you lose some. And the lessons have been learned. At the end of the day, we lost. And we come and treat our colleagues, the opposition, for scooping up the Chawama by-election,” he said.

Liswaniso said a win for the opposition had rejuvenated its morale as the August 13 general election draws nearer.

“And it has boosted their camp, and the morale. They are celebrating.  For us as UPND, loss ibaba. We are in pain. We are pointing fingers at each other. We are blaming each other. Because of loss, nibang’ono bamaivomela [few people accept a loss]. A lot of people associate themselves with winning. And for me, it’s a lesson, because it’s the first time since we formed the government that I’ve lost an election,” he said.

Liswaniso said lessons had been learned from the Chawama loss. From the people he mingled with were able to advise them on the kind of message they should deliver. He said one party faction had not followed the strategy set to help win the by-election for various reasons.

“So, there are many reasons why we lost Chawama. Number one, did we have a strategy? Yes, it was there. Did people follow? I may say people never followed. Those who were assigned to follow the principle, the strategy itself, I think, for me, it’s that there are only a few who followed the strategy to ensure that we win the by-election for Chawama. Nevertheless, maybe we went casually there, thinking that because we have been winning all those by-elections all along, we thought even Chawama would be easy,” Liswaniso said.

He said residents of Chawama Constituency did not hide their displeasure with the manner the UPND government had ill-treated the former president Edgar Lungu’s family.

“Sometimes it’s a feeling ati bamucosapo uja. How you feel about in the compounds, it’s not about the law. They felt like this girl, Tasila, has been treated badly. The first two weeks, I mean, one week, yeah, let me say two weeks, it was hard. Okay, even just people rising, I’m specifically pointing out certain ones which are very difficult, like Ward 2, which has the largest population of voters, almost 41,200 voters. That was very difficult for us,” Liswaniso said.

He said the UPND had faced many challenges that led to the loss of the by-election.

Liswaniso said he was in Chawama for two months campaigning, monitoring and evaluating the chances of candidates to win the elections.

“But for some of us who were there from the time they just announced the Chawama by-election. We’re able to identify some challenges, identify who is strong, how strong the PF is. All those things we identified them to say, okay, what is in Ward 1 in Misisi? What is in Ward 2? What is in Ward 3 in John Howard? What is in Ward 4? We were able to put all the things in order,” he said.

Liswaniso said the opposition to UPND was strong in Chawama.

He said Chawama residents told him that his party would lose because of many factors.

“I would say also that the opposition was strong, especially in Ward 2. They [PF] were very strong. Especially the late president Edgar Chagwa Lungu and the PF. They were very strong,” Liswaniso said

It was hard for the UPND to penetrate Chawama, though it had aimed to win the seat.

“The issue is we don’t go to an election thinking you are going to lose. It’s how people receive you. But there are certain areas where we could feel that here it’s hard. People really need to be calm. We were feeling that we can carry the day. You know, when you go to the battle, all of you are feeling that you are going to win it, because you are being received. You are being given an opportunity,” Liswaniso said.

KAMBWILI CALLS ON SPEAKER MUTTI TO STRIP CHABINGA OF LEADER OF OPPOSITION POST

KAMBWILI CALLS ON SPEAKER MUTTI TO STRIP CHABINGA OF LEADER OF OPPOSITION POST

By: Thomas Afroman Mwale

The Patriotic Front (PF) faction led by Given Lubinda has appealed to Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti to withdraw recognition of Mafinga Member of Parliament Robert Chabinga as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament following the Constitutional Court’s dismissal of a petition to declare the Matero Constituency seat vacant.

PF presidential hopeful Chishimba Kambwili said while the Speaker’s decision not to declare Miles Sampa’s seat vacant is commendable, she should equally remove Mr Chabinga from the position of Leader of the Opposition.

Mr Kambwili argued that Mr Chabinga was not elected by the party to hold the position and therefore lacks legitimacy  adding that corrective action should be taken immediately Parliament resumes sittings.

Meanwhile, PF Acting President Given Lubinda has also praised Speaker Mutti’s decision, stating that for the first time in Zambia’s history, the Speaker made the right call by not declaring the Matero Constituency seat vacant.

KANTANSHI MP DUMPS PF AS HE EXPLORES OTHER PARTIES FOR ADOPTION AHEAD OF AUGUST POLLS

KANTANSHI MP DUMPS PF AS HE EXPLORES OTHER PARTIES FOR ADOPTION AHEAD OF AUGUST POLLS

PATRIOTIC Front Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba has announced that he will not contest this year’s general elections on the PF ticket.

Mr. Mumba has cited persistent party wrangles and mistreatment over the past five years as reasons for his decision.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Mumba has described his tenure in the PF as “torturous”, stating that he can no longer endure the treatment he has received, particularly the ridicule he claims to have faced whenever his views appeared to align with those of the UPND government.

He says he will carefully assess various political options before deciding which party ticket he will contest on, excluding the PF.

Mr. Mumba says the ruling UPND is among the parties he may consider joining, or he may run as an independent candidate.

Matero Court Ruling Exposes the False Claim to PF Ownership and Sends a Warning to the Ruling Party

Matero Court Ruling Exposes the False Claim to PF Ownership and Sends a Warning to the Ruling Party

By Michael Zephaniah Phiri Political Activist

The Constitutional Court’s decision to dismiss the petition seeking to declare the Matero parliamentary seat vacant and to order that each party bears its own costs has delivered a decisive political message that extends far beyond the courtroom. It has exposed the hollow claims of authority by Mr. Robert Chabinga and Mr. Morgan Ngona and reaffirmed a fundamental truth: the Patriotic Front (PF) cannot be hijacked through litigation, manipulation, or political engineering.

This ruling is a clear rejection of the narrative that the PF belongs to a small group of individuals propped up by external interests. Had Mr. Chabinga and Mr. Ngona genuinely commanded legitimate control over the party, the courts would have reflected that reality. Instead, the judgment underscores what PF members and supporters have consistently asserted that party legitimacy is derived from the people, not from repeated trips to court.

*Faith, Gratitude, and the Voice of the People*

Following the ruling, Hon. Miles Mbempe Sampa expressed heartfelt gratitude to PF members across the country and to senior party leadership who stood firm throughout more than a year of sustained legal pressure. He specifically thanked PF President Hon. Given Lubinda, National Chairperson Hon. Jean Katapa, and senior party leader Hon. Chishimba Kambwili for their steadfast support and leadership during a period marked by deliberate attempts to destabilize the party.

Hon. Sampa also thanked God for making it possible for him to remain the duly elected Member of Parliament for Matero, stating that the court’s decision reflects not only legal correctness but also the will of the people of Matero, who have consistently rejected imposed leadership and political interference.

PF President Hon. Given Lubinda echoed these sentiments, thanking God and describing the ruling as historic. He noted that, despite being a minority judgment, it marked the first time the Constitutional Court had issued such a ruling in circumstances so deeply tied to internal party democracy and voter sovereignty.

“This ruling is historic,” President Lubinda stated, “because it confirms that the courts cannot be used to override the will of the people.”

*Matero: The Grassroots Reality the Ruling Party Fears*

Matero remains politically significant precisely because Hon. Miles Sampa commands genuine grassroots support. His influence is not manufactured through press statements or court filings; it is built through consistent engagement with the people on the ground. This is the reality that has unsettled both the ruling UPND government and its political proxies within PF disputes.

The persistent legal attacks on Hon. Sampa and the PF reveal a strategy aimed not at justice, but at political attrition an attempt to exhaust the opposition through the courts after failing to defeat it politically.

*Exposing the Chabinga–Ngona Agenda*

If Mr. Chabinga and Mr. Ngona were sincere and principled actors within the Patriotic Front, they would have withdrawn all court cases affecting the party and allowed internal democratic processes to function. Instead, their continued reliance on litigation has only exposed an agenda disconnected from the party’s membership and grassroots base.

Their strategy has failed. The court’s decision has stripped away the illusion of legitimacy and confirmed that the true and genuine PF leadership is that which enjoys the confidence of its members and reflects the values and vision of the party’s founding principles.

*A Direct Warning to the Ruling Party*

President Given Lubinda further stated firmly and without ambiguity that dragging the Patriotic Front through endless court battles will not weaken its membership or erode its support. He emphasized that PF supporters remain resolute and unmoved by legal harassment.

He pointed out that Hon. Miles Sampa has been subjected to court proceedings for over one year, yet despite these prolonged attempts to frustrate his mandate, the court has now spoken in line with the will of the people of Matero. According to President Lubinda, this outcome exposes the futility of using legal processes to overturn democratic choices.

President Lubinda issued a stern warning to the ruling UPND government: keeping the PF permanently in court is a dangerous and self-defeating political strategy. Citizens did not vote for the UPND to dismantle the opposition or silence alternative voices. They voted for leadership, governance, and national development.

“Using state power and court processes to fight the opposition will only deepen public mistrust,” President Lubinda stated. “The ruling party is already losing credibility because it has betrayed the mandate given to it by the people who voted for change, not for the destruction of the Patriotic Front.”

In conclusion, the dismissal of the Matero petition is more than a legal outcome; it is a political reckoning. It confirms that the Patriotic Front cannot be captured through the courts, nor can its leadership be imposed by convenience or coercion.

The PF remains a mass-based, people-driven movement whose legitimacy lies with its members and supporters across the country. Those who continue to ignore this reality do so at their own political peril.

Those who have eyes can see clearly: the courts have spoken, the people have spoken, and history is recording who stands on the side of democracy and who does not.

TONSE ALLIANCE ELECTS MUNDUBILE, CONFIRMS ITS OWN DISARRAY

TONSE ALLIANCE ELECTS MUNDUBILE, CONFIRMS ITS OWN DISARRAY

By Thomas Chewe

The election of Brian Mundubile as President of the Tonse Alliance has not revived the opposition bloc; it has merely confirmed its deepening disarray.

Instead of unity, the outcome has exposed open rebellion at the top. Senior Patriotic Front figure Given Lubinda has rejected the legitimacy of the Dan Pule–led Tonse Alliance under which Mundubile was elected, making it clear that the new presidency is not universally recognised, even within the alliance itself. This is not renewal. It is fragmentation wearing the mask of leadership change.

An alliance that cannot agree on who leads it, or which structure is legitimate, cannot credibly present itself as an alternative government. What was once sold as a united opposition front now resembles parallel camps fighting for control of a fading political brand.

Mundubile assumes office not as a unifier, but as the face of a divided and directionless coalition. Titles have changed. The chaos has not. Zambians are watching, and the verdict is increasingly unforgiving.

Edgar Lungu is dead , I saw his dead body in a mortuary- Makebi Zulu

MAKEBI ZULU DISMISSES CLAIMS EDGAR LUNGU IS ALIVE, CONFIRMS VIEWING OF THE BODY

By: Thomas Afroman Mwale

Spokesperson for the family of the late former President Edgar Lungu, Makebi Zulu, has described as unfortunate suggestions circulating that the former Head of State might still be alive.

Mr Zulu said it is regrettable that the death of Zambia’s sixth Republican President has been reduced to a joke, arguing that such claims undermine the dignity and legacy of Mr Lungu.

He has, however, firmly dismissed the allegations, confirming that members of the Lungu family, himself, former Mines Minister Richard Musukwa, and other close associates personally viewed Mr Lungu’s body at the mortuary.

Speaking on That Zed Podcast, Mr Zulu questioned why doubts continue to persist despite Mr Lungu’s daughter, Tasila Lungu, publicly confirming her father’s death in a widely circulated video.

Meanwhile, Mr Zulu revealed that the matter surrounding Mr Lungu’s burial remains before the South African courts, with a Notice of Appeal already filed.

He said the record of proceedings and legal arguments will be submitted, after which the court will announce a date for the hearing.

Mr Zulu maintained that the family’s wish is to accord Mr Lungu a dignified funeral in line with their wishes.

Mr Edgar Lungu died on June 5th, 2025, but has not yet been buried due to an ongoing legal dispute over his final resting place.

FINDLAY CONTRIBUTES TO THE ECONOMY, SUPPORTS MANY FAMILIES, DEFENCE PLEADS AFTER CONVICTION

FINDLAY CONTRIBUTES TO THE ECONOMY, SUPPORTS MANY FAMILIES, DEFENCE PLEADS AFTER CONVICTION

BUSINESSMAN Harry Findlay should not be sent to prison because he is a contributor to the economy, a provider to many families and an employer of a large workforce, his lawyers told the Lusaka Magistrates Court yesterday.

This was the defence’s passionate plea in mitigation after Lusaka Acting Chief Resident Magistrate Sylvia Okoh convicted Findlay on two immigration-related offences involving holding more than one passport and possession of a passport bearing a forged immigration endorsement.

Findlay was found guilty of acquiring a second Zambian passport after claiming to have lost the first, contrary to the Passport Act and of possessing a passport with a forged Mwami Border Control stamp, an offence under the Immigration and Deportation Act.

Following the conviction, defence lawyers from Milner & Paul Legal Practitioners and D. Findlay & Associates urged the court to exercise leniency, arguing that the offences were regulatory in nature and did not warrant a custodial sentence.

They told the court that Findlay employs many workers whose livelihoods, together with those of their families, depend on him, adding that he is a taxpayer who contributes significantly to Zambia’s economy through business activities and statutory obligations.

The defence further submitted that Findlay is a family man, a father and grandfather, who supports an extended family, including nieces and nephews who rely on him for survival.

They also informed the court that the businessman has a medical condition and insisted there was no evidence that he engaged in serious criminal activities, stating that imprisonment would be disproportionate to the nature of the offences.

In her ruling, Magistrate Munyinya-Okoh dismissed the defence’s earlier calls for acquittal and agreed with the prosecution that the evidence clearly established the offences.

The court fined Findlay a total of K240,000 for the two counts and ordered that he will serve up to six months simple imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

GET THEIR GIFTS, BUT YOUR VOTE IS SECRET, ARCHBISHOP CHAMA TIPS KASAMA RESIDENTS

GET THEIR GIFTS, BUT YOUR VOTE IS SECRET, ARCHBISHOP CHAMA TIPS KASAMA RESIDENTS

KASAMA Archbishop Ignatius Chama has urged voters in Kasama to accept whatever they are being offered by contesting parties, but to keep their vote secret in today’s by-election.

The Kasama mayoral by-election is scheduled for today, Thursday, following the death of the incumbent mayor, Theresa Kolala of the Patriotic Front. Six candidates successfully filed their nominations, with the ruling UPND fielding Bywell Simposya, while the FDD has fielded Peter Yuda under the Tonse Alliance.

Addressing the media, Archbishop Chama advised registered voters to exercise their right to vote for a leader they felt would effectively conduct their duty as Kasama Mayor.

“Tomorrow, 29th January, 2026, Kasama District will be going to the polls to elect our mayor. I want to say one or two things. All registered voters, we have a duty to choose our mayor. Therefore we must all go and vote where we registered as voters. We must not forget that our vote is our secret.

No one will know that we have selected this one, only our hearts will know. Sometimes when confused children are given money, mealie meal, alcohol, chitenge materials, they tell us that we elect them or if we don’t choose their person, everything they’ve given us, they’ll follow us because they’ll know that we didn’t vote for their person. This is a lie, don’t listen to such. Get everything you’re given but choose a leader with your independent conscience of your heart on the position of mayor,” he said in Bemba.

Archbishop Chama further urged the electorate to maintain peace after the by-election.

“When you choose someone who gave you everything, it will be like that person bought your knowledge and conscience of choosing your mayor. That person would have bought the freedom that God gave you of which God doesn’t get when choosing right from wrong.

Therefore, when choosing just because you were given something, in your own consciousness, you’re convinced that that person will work effectively as Kasama Mayor. Your vote is secret. No one will know who you voted for.

It’s your duty to vote for the Mayor. Let’s all go as registered voters to elect our Mayor who will lead Kasama Municipal Council in line with our laws as a country. After elections, we must wait for the results peacefully and in unity,” said Archbishop Chama.

LUSAKA CITY COUNCIL  SAYS SIMON MWEWA ACTING ILLEGALLY OVER CAR PARK

LCC SAYS SIMON MWEWA ACTING ILLEGALLY OVER CAR PARK

LUSAKA CITY COUNCIL DISPELS UNFOUNDED ALLEGATIONS AGAINST TOWN CLERK

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) is compelled to respond to the unfounded and false accusations of corruption levelled against the Lusaka Town Clerk, Eng. Liftery Ndaba, by Mr Simon Mwewa on a social media platform.

The Council takes these allegations seriously and wishes to dismiss Mr. Mwewa’s baseless claims with the contempt they deserve.

It has come to the Council’s attention that Mr Mwewa’s actions are an attempt to deflect attention from his own illegal activities, specifically, the barricading of the Council car park along Kalusha Bwalya Road without Council permission.

The Council recently resolved to utilise the car park for public use; however, Mr Mwewa has proceeded to barricade the property for his personal business activities, thereby overriding public interest.

The Council wishes to inform the public that the car park in question was designated for public use to alleviate congestion in the bus station area. Mr Mwewa has chosen to disregard this resolution and prioritise his own business interests instead. This action is not only illegal but also demonstrates a clear disregard for the Council’s authority.

Furthermore, the Council would like to bring to the public’s attention that Mr Mwewa had an outstanding debt of K111,086.40 in respect of his business operations in the City Market area, for which he did not hold a valid lease during the period 2022 to 2025. The Council resolved to address this matter and Mr Mwewa was advised to formalise his operations. However, he subsequently applied for a 13-year lease, which the Council declined to grant on the grounds that the council resolved to use the property as a public amenity.

This decision was made in strict accordance with the Council’s regulations and policies. It is evident that Mr Mwewa’s  actions are motivated by a desire to hold on to public property.

The Lusaka City Council wishes to reiterate that it is a corporate body that makes decisions in the best interests of the public, not individual office holders. The Council will not tolerate any form of illegality that undermines its efforts to improve operations and serve the people of Lusaka. We reaffirm our commitment to enhancing service delivery in an accountable and transparent manner that protects the interests of the public.

In light of these circumstances, the Council urges the public to disregard Mr Mwewa’s unfounded allegations and to report any public concerns of unauthorized usage of public amenities.

ACC ARRESTS FOUR PUBLIC OFFICERS IN MAJOR CORRUPTION CASE

ACC ARRESTS FOUR PUBLIC OFFICERS IN MAJOR CORRUPTION CASE

By: Cletus Mutoki

As part of ongoing investigations into the alleged misappropriation of part of a US$10 million loan facility, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged four public officers from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock for alleged corrupt practices.

The arrests form part of the US$10 million loan facility obtained by government from the African Development Bank (AfDB) in 2019 under the Strategic Livestock Investment and Management Project (SLIMP).

Speaking during a press briefing today, ACC Director-General Daphne Chabu disclosed that this brings the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the case to seven, as investigations continue.

The ACC has engaged the Office of the Auditor General to conduct a forensic audit of the Strategic Livestock Investment and Management Project loan in order to ascertain the full extent of the alleged abuse of public resources.

This process may result in the arrest of additional suspects.
Among those charged is Emmanuel Chilala (41), an accountant, facing multiple counts of corrupt acquisition, possession of suspected proceeds of crime, and concealment of property valued at over K36 million.

Ackim Dedeyo Mwalilino (32), Acting Livestock Research Production Officer, has been charged with diverting nearly K4.7 million and possessing properties and a vehicle worth K3.45 million.

Sharon Hikaumba (40), a stenographer and spouse to Chilala, has been charged with concealment of motor vehicles worth K1.5 million.

Also charged is Kabemba Mwambilwa (47), Assistant Director – Livestock Development, for possession of properties valued at K11.9 million.

Meanwhile, to date, the commission has restricted 37 properties, including 27 houses, three farms, and seven vehicles across the country.

The public has since been warned to refrain from corrupt practices and to avoid being in conflict with the law.

ECONOMIST WELCOMES ZAMBIA’S SINGLE-DIGIT INFLATION

ECONOMIST WELCOMES ZAMBIA’S SINGLE-DIGIT INFLATION

ECONOMIST Kelvin Chisanga has welcomed the return of Zambia’s inflation rate to single digits, calling it a pivotal economic development.

In a statement, Wednesday, Chisanga said the January 2026 inflation reading of 9.4% marks a psychological breakthrough.

He noted that this shift follows a prolonged period of double-digit inflation that had strained household budgets.

Chisanga attributed the decline to tighter monetary policy, relative exchange rate stability, and improved supply chains.

He observed that while inflation has eased, the cost of living remains elevated for many Zambians.

He stressed that single-digit inflation does not equate to affordability, but rather signals stabilisation.

Chisanga said the development could create room for lower interest rates, which may boost private sector growth.

He warned that sustaining this progress will depend on managing risks such as fuel prices and climate shocks.

He urged authorities to maintain fiscal discipline and ensure a consistent energy supply.

He also called for policies that translate macroeconomic gains into real improvements in household welfare.

Chisanga described the 9.4% figure as a confidence-boosting signal for both consumers and investors.

He said the focus now should be on ensuring that this downward trend is sustained and inclusive.

PF LIES ABOUT SALE OF KABWE ZINC MINE EXPOSED

PF LIES ABOUT SALE OF KABWE ZINC MINE EXPOSED
By Shalala Oliver Sepiso

This afternoon, PF pages ran with a short allegation that “$2bn valued Kabwe zinc mine acquired for $4.5m by UK firm. He did it and he has done it again , hh and amasampo.”

The allegation makes it sound like the mine sold is a government owned mine. A national asset. And that the president is somehow involved in the transaction. The truth is something else.

The reality is that Shuka Minerals Plc (formerly known as Edenville Energy), a London-based company listed on the London Stock Exchange, has completed the 100% acquisition of Leopard Exploration and Mining Limited (LEM), which owns the historic Kabwe Zinc Mine.

The acquisition was confirmed to be complete as of 16th January, 2026, following a protracted process and approval from Zambia’s Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).

The Kabwe mine is described as a high-grade, “world-class” deposit, with estimated remaining resources of 5.7 million tonnes and an estimated NPV10 of US$561 million. This is nowhere close to the USD 2bn the PF are claiming is the value. The 2bn is the value of the ore not the value of the mine at sale. Or the value of the shares.

Shuka has already begun fieldwork, including drilling, geophysical surveys, and environmental studies for 2026 and is focused on rehabilitating and exploiting the resource, which was historically operated for 88 years and is rich in zinc and lead.

Before Shuka Minerals completed its 100% acquisition in January 2026, Leopard Exploration and Mining Limited (LEM) in Zambia was owned by a group of eight unrelated parties.

The group of 8 unrelated parties had interests in the Kabwe Mine via their shares in LEM for about 10 years before the sale. Shuka Minerals agreed to a conditional Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) to buy 100% of LEM, which holds the Kabwe zinc mine, for a total of US$4.5 million in cash and shares.

The deal was finalized, and 100% ownership transferred on 16th January, 2026, following delays related to funding, marking the end of the private, 8-party ownership structure.

The Kabwe Mine itself was previously operated by Anglo American plc and Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Limited before it closed in 1994.

The Kabwe zinc mine’s ownership shifted from the Zambian government to private hands between 1994 and 1995, during the privatization process that followed the closure of the mine, which was managed by the state-owned Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM) under the MMD government.

LEM acquired the mining licence under PF government. The mining license was acquired by Leopard Exploration and Mining (LEM), a subsidiary of BMR Group (later acquired by Shuka Minerals), following a series of transfers, with significant ownership of the assets and license solidified around 2010–2012. In 2012, BMR/EPL completed the acquisition of all relevant assets, including the Large Scale Mining License 6990-HQ-LML from ZCCM-IH. This never happened under UPND.

Who owns LEM?

Based on the acquisition details, Anglorand (Seychelles) Limited was the major shareholder of Leopard Exploration and Mining Limited (LEM) before Shuka Minerals PLC took over, holding a 66.7% interest. Anglorand (Seychelles) Limited is part of the Anglorand Financial Services Group, a South African-based boutique financial services firm. The company is related to entities (including Anglorand Securities Ltd and Anglorand Holdings Ltd) that involve directors such as Geoffrey Llewellyn Carter. The group has a broad presence, including offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Abu Dhabi, Mauritius, and Shanghai, and has a significant interest in other financial entities, such as holding 66.7% of LEM shares as of December 2024.

Back to LEM, the company was a privately held company, not owned by the Zambian government or ZCCM-IH. While the Kabwe Mine was historically operated by Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM) in the past (before 1994), the specific entity “Leopard Exploration and Mining Limited” (which held the license from 2014) was a private entity.

So this deal the PF is talking about is purely a private business detail which doesn’t involve the president at all either directly or indirectly.

As earlier indicated, despite the mine sitting idle for decades, it is a mine with one of the world’s highest-grade zinc deposits, with historical grades reaching up to 43% zinc.

More than 14 million tonnes of ore have been mined at Kabwe since commercial production began in 1904. Shuka estimates that 5.7 million tonnes of resources remain, containing about 700,000 tonnes of zinc and 100,000 tonnes of lead, with a combined in-situ value exceeding $2 billion.

Following a recent £1 million equity raise, the company has commenced on-site fieldwork and plans a comprehensive exploration and evaluation programme. This includes confirmatory and step-out diamond drilling, airborne and ground magnetic surveys, geophysics and geotechnical studies, as well as the construction of a sample laboratory at the mine.

According to Shuka CEO Richard Lloyd, by the end of 2026, Shuka aims to further define the Kabwe orebodies and refine exploration targets beyond the current licence area. Chief Executive Richard Lloyd reaffirmed the project’s Phase 1 development metrics, citing an expected pre-tax cash flow of $1.84 billion and a net present value of $561 million, underscoring Kabwe’s potential to anchor Shuka’s growth strategy in southern Africa.

Who owns Shuka?

Gathoni Muchai Investments Limited (GMI) is a substantial shareholder, frequently referred to in recent reports as a major/second-largest shareholder, with a holding of approximately 19.55% to 20.9% as of mid-2025.

The largest shareholder is AUO Commercial Brokerage LLC (associated with Q Global Commodities), which held approximately 29.20% of the company as of mid-2025. Other significant shareholders include Noel Lyons (approx. 6.30%), Peter Geoffrey Edwards (approx. 4.46%), and RAB Capital Holdings Limited (approx. 4.9% as of Jan 2026).

Meanwhile, management/directors, i.e. CEO Richard Lloyd and Non-Executive Director Marc Nally, hold smaller percentages (approx. 1.65% and 1.34% respectively, after Jan 2026 share issues).

ZAMBIA’S INFLATION FALLS TO 9.4% IN JANUARY, LOWEST LEVEL SINCE 2021

ZAMBIA’S INFLATION FALLS TO 9.4% IN JANUARY, LOWEST LEVEL SINCE 2021

By: Sun FM TV Reporter

Zambia’s annual inflation rate dropped to 9.4 percent in January 2026, marking its lowest level since late 2021, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats).

This represents a notable decline from the 11.2 percent recorded in December 2025.

The report attributes the slowdown to moderated price increases across both food and non-food categories.

ZamStats emphasized that the CPI is based on a 2009 benchmark and continues to serve as a key indicator for tracking cost-of-living changes across the country.
Acting Statistician General Sheila Mudenda described the development as a sign of sustained disinflationary momentum.

Ms Mudenda stated that the decline from 11.2 percent in December was driven by easing price pressures across both food and non-food categories.

She revealed that the development was attributed to price movements in both food and non-food items.
On average, prices of goods and services increased by 9.4 percent between January 2025 and January 2026, highlighting a continued downward trend that began in early 2025.

A line graph included in the report shows inflation peaking at 16.8 percent in February 2025 before gradually easing month by month.

The consistent decline reflects the impact of tighter monetary policies, improved supply chains, and seasonal factors influencing food prices.

U.S. Warns It May Deploy Its Own Fighter Jets Over Canada If Ottawa Cuts F-35 Purchase

 BREAKING NEWS: U.S. Warns It May Deploy Its Own Fighter Jets Over Canada If Ottawa Cuts F-35 Purchase 

The United States has issued a rare and direct warning to Canada, stating that U.S. fighter jets could be deployed into Canadian airspace if Ottawa reduces or cancels its planned purchase of 88 F-35 stealth fighter jets.

According to U.S. officials, Canada’s reconsideration of the F-35 program—driven by sharply rising costs could create capability gaps in North American air defence. Washington has signaled that, in such a scenario, the United States would step in to “fill the gaps,” potentially leading to greater U.S. military presence over Canadian skies.

The warning is closely tied to the NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) framework, under which both countries jointly defend North American airspace. U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra indicated that any Canadian shortfall in advanced fighter capability could force changes in how NORAD operates, including increased U.S. responsibility for air interception missions over Canada.

Canada is currently reviewing its F-35 commitment amid budget concerns and has explored alternative aircraft options, including European fighters with domestic production incentives. However, U.S. officials have made it clear that moving away from the F-35 could have direct strategic consequences, not just procurement implications.

The development underscores growing pressure on Canada to maintain high-end air combat capabilities and highlights how defence procurement decisions are now directly linked to sovereignty, airspace control, and continental security arrangements.

Ilhan Omar was on stage calling for DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to resign, soaking in applause — then a man rushed the podium and sprayed her with apple cider vinegar.

Within hours, instead of just blaming the attacker, she jumped straight to the one name Democrats always reach for: Donald J. Trump.

The suspect, 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak, is in custody, but Omar’s political target is clear.

She claimed Trump is “intimidating” her and somehow responsible for a local nutcase with a bottle of vinegar

Meanwhile, President Trump and others raised an obvious question the media won’t touch: was this dramatic moment conveniently timed to distract from growing scrutiny over Omar’s sudden jump in personal wealth?

In Washington, nothing goes to waste — especially a “victim” narrative that can be weaponized against Trump.

Remember, this is the same Ilhan Omar who held a candlelight vigil for Alex Pretti, a violent, armed man shot while resisting DHS agents.

She paints hardened offenders as martyrs, then turns around and casts herself as America’s most endangered lawmaker over a vinegar stunt.

Her reaction said it all: “We will continue!

This f*cking a**hole is not going to get away with it! ” That’s not leadership; that’s performance — rage for the cameras, blame for Trump, and zero accountability for her own rhetoric against law enforcement and political opponents.

South Africa May Hit Back With Auto Tariffs Amid U.S. Threats

South Africa May Hit Back With Auto Tariffs Amid U.S. Threats

South Africa is considering imposing tariffs on imported vehicles after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to levy tariffs on certain goods. The proposed move aims to protect local car manufacturers and reduce the potential impact of U.S. trade pressure.

Officials say the tariffs would help support domestic production, safeguard jobs, and strengthen South Africa’s automotive industry, which is a key contributor to exports and the national economy.

The discussion comes amid ongoing global trade tensions, with South Africa weighing measures to defend its industries while maintaining good relations with major trading partners.

Xi Jinping sends message to Zimbabwe liberation war veterans

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday sent a message to veterans of Zimbabwe’s national liberation struggle, praising their sacrifices and reaffirming the long-standing friendship between China and Zimbabwe.

In his letter, Xi acknowledged that in their youth, the veterans dedicated themselves to national liberation, leaving their homes to fight for freedom while forging a profound bond with China. “To this day, they remain deeply committed to China-Zimbabwe and China-Africa friendship, which is deeply moving,” Xi said.

The Chinese President highlighted that 2026 marks both the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and African nations and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. He noted that over the past seven decades, China has consistently supported Africa’s struggles for national liberation, development, and rejuvenation. “China and its African friends have respected and supported each other, weathered arduous times together, and jointly embarked on a new journey toward modernization,” Xi stated.

Xi reaffirmed China’s readiness to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation as a means to strengthen traditional friendship and jointly build a brighter future for China-Africa relations. He expressed hope that the Zimbabwean veterans will inspire a new generation of African youth to dedicate themselves to fostering China-Zimbabwe and China-Africa ties.

With the Chinese New Year of the Horse approaching, Xi invoked the symbolism of the dragon and the horse, urging both sides to carry forward a spirit of tireless collaboration. “We will work together to build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era, and write a new chapter in China-Africa friendship,” he said.

The letter comes in response to correspondence from the veterans, who thanked Xi for China’s support during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, expressed admiration for his leadership, and pledged to continue strengthening the Zimbabwe-China relationship.

Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the country has maintained support for Africa’s liberation movements, a legacy that Xi said continues to underpin the “all-weather” partnership between China and Zimbabwe.

Iran has rejects talks with US

Iran has rejected holding negotiations with the United States if Washington continues to issue military threats, following remarks by US President Donald Trump refusing to rule out military intervention over Tehran’s deadly crackdown on protests.

The rejection came as a US naval strike group led by an aircraft carrier moved into Middle Eastern waters, prompting heightened regional tension and intensified diplomatic activity by Iranian officials.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said diplomacy could not succeed under the shadow of military pressure.

“Conducting diplomacy through military threat cannot be effective or useful,” Araghchi said in televised comments.

“If they want negotiations to take shape, they must certainly set aside threats, excessive demands and raising illogical issues,” he added.

Araghchi also said he has had “no contact” with US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff in recent days and stressed that “Iran has not sought negotiations.”

The United States has increased its military presence in the region after Trump declined to rule out the use of force in response to Iran’s violent suppression of nationwide protests. US Central Command confirmed that a strike group led by the USS Abraham Lincoln has arrived in Middle Eastern waters, without disclosing its exact location.

Analysts say Washington’s options range from limited strikes on military facilities to targeted attacks against Iran’s leadership in a bid to dismantle the system that has ruled the country since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Amid the escalating standoff, Iran has reached out to key Arab states allied with the United States in an apparent effort to rally regional support. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, while the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, held talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Qatar said it supports “all efforts aimed at reducing escalation and achieving peaceful solutions in a manner that enhances security and stability in the region.”

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty also held separate conversations with both Araghchi and Witkoff, stressing the need to “ease tensions and work towards de-escalation” and create conditions for dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

Meanwhile, rights groups say the scale of Iran’s crackdown continues to grow. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency said it has verified 6,221 deaths linked to the protests, including 5,856 protesters, 100 minors, 214 security personnel and 49 bystanders. The group said it is still investigating an additional 17,091 possible fatalities.

At least 42,324 people have been arrested, according to the group, which warned that security forces are continuing raids, searching hospitals for wounded protesters, arresting doctors accused of helping demonstrators, and broadcasting forced confessions on state television.

“These developments highlight new dimensions of the continued security crackdown in the aftermath of the protests,” the group said.

In a separate development, Iran announced the execution of a man arrested in April 2025 on charges of spying for Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad. Rights groups say at least 12 people have been executed on similar charges since last year and have expressed concern that protesters could also face capital punishment.

Donald Trump ally says he’s worried about the U.S president’s ‘dangerous psychological state’

One of Donald Trump’s closest allies in Europe has reportedly expressed concern about the US president’s state of mind, describing it as “dangerous,” according to accounts from European diplomats.

Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, who met Trump last week at Mar-a-Lago, is said to have used the word while discussing the encounter with fellow European officials, Politico reported. Five diplomats, who spoke anonymously, said Fico raised the issue during a meeting in Brussels on January 22, amid growing unease in Europe over Trump’s threats to take over Greenland.

Although Fico did not formally question Trump’s mental state in any official setting, diplomats said he appeared troubled in private conversations with other EU leaders. His comments have drawn particular attention given that he is widely regarded as one of Trump’s strongest supporters in Europe and has frequently aligned himself with the US president on controversial issues.

The White House swiftly dismissed the reports, calling them false. Anna Kelly, a spokesperson, told Politico that the claims were “absolutely total fake news from anonymous European diplomats trying to be relevant,” adding that the Mar-a-Lago meeting was “positive and productive.”

Fico’s meeting with Trump was reportedly informal but was attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Slovakia’s foreign minister. After the meeting, Fico publicly stated that he and Trump were in “complete agreement” that the European Union was facing a deep crisis.

Trump’s health and mental sharpness have been the subject of increased scrutiny since his return to office. Questions have been raised in recent months over episodes of apparent fatigue, visible bruising on his hand, which the White House attributed to frequent handshakes and aspirin use, and moments of verbal confusion.

At 78, Trump is the oldest president to be inaugurated. Despite this, he has repeatedly insisted he is in excellent health, at one point claiming to be “healthier than Obama.” His most recent annual physical examination, released last April, declared him fit to carry out the duties of the presidency.

While some of Trump’s public appearances, including a lengthy address to the World Economic Forum, have drawn criticism and scrutiny, the White House has defended his performance, describing it as a success on the global stage.

IShowSpeed set to get Ghanaian passport as Africa tour ends

Popular American YouTuber IShowSpeed is set to receive a Ghanaian passport following his recent visit to the country during his Africa tour.

The 21-year-old content creator, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr, made Ghana one of the final stops on his live-streamed tour across 20 African countries. The tour, tagged “Speed Does Africa,” officially ended on Tuesday.

After his visit, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that his office had approved a Ghanaian passport for the YouTube star, describing him as a “worthy ambassador” for the country and the African continent, BBC reported.

According to the minister, the approval followed confirmation of IShowSpeed’s ties to Ghana. During one of his live streams in the country, the YouTuber told viewers that his mother is Ghanaian.

Ablakwa encouraged the influencer to continue representing Ghana and Africa positively, adding that the country celebrates him.

IShowSpeed boasts over 50 million subscribers on YouTube, with his Africa tour drawing global attention and praise for showcasing African cultures and challenging stereotypes about the continent.

While many Ghanaians welcomed the move, others took to social media to criticise the decision, accusing the government of devaluing the Ghanaian passport by granting it to foreign celebrities.

Entire Malaysian FA execs quit after fielding three Spaniards, two Argentinians, a Dutchman and a Brazilian in 4-0 victory over Vietnam

The entire executive committee of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have quit after fielding three Spanish players, two Argentinians, a Dutchman and a Brazilian in a 4-0 victory over Vietnam.

The officials resigned on Wednesday after a scandal involving the naturalization of seven foreign-born players led to FIFA sanctions, a court appeal and intensified scrutiny of the country’s soccer governance.

All committee members, elected 11 months ago for the 2025-2029 term, stepped down with immediate effect in a unanimous and voluntary decision in order to protect the association’s credibility.

The mass resignation followed FIFA’s decision last September to fine the association about £326,000 and suspending the seven players for a year after determining that fake documents had been filed to support their naturalization.

The players – Facundo Garcés, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, João Figueiredo, Gabriel Palmero, Jon Irazabal and Héctor Hevel- were also fined individually.

The seven, who originate from Argentina, Brazil, the Netherlands and Spain, went on to play for Malaysia, including in a qualifying match for the 2027 Asian Cup that Malaysia won against Vietnam.

Malaysian officials had maintained that all seven players were eligible under FIFA rules because each had a grandparent born in Malaysia.

FIFA, however, said its investigators obtained original documents from the players’ countries of origin that contradicted those claims.

In a statement on Wednesday, FAM said the committee had been elected for a four-year mandate covering the 2025-2029 term and the decision to resign after just 11 months demonstrated that service to Malaysian soccer takes precedence over holding office.

The mass resignation was intended to safeguard the association’s reputation and mitigate further consequences for Malaysian football, it said.

It would allow FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation to review governance, administrative and procedural matters within FAM, and ensure any reforms can be undertaken without distraction or perceived conflicts of interest, it added.

‘The executive committee recognizes the importance of collective responsibility and the need to act in a manner that protects the integrity and standing of the association,’ the statement read.

FAM said the move was aimed at restoring confidence among supporters, stakeholders and the wider football community, emphasizing that institutional credibility is essential to the stability and future development of the sport in Malaysia.

The outgoing leadership will fully cooperate with FIFA, the AFC and other stakeholders. No timeline was announced for interim leadership or new elections.

Walter Magaya Latest: State Gives Detailed Update On Prophet’s Walter Magaya Latest: State Gives Detailed Update On Prophet’s Case Case

Detailed Update On Prophet Walter Magaya Case
The state has given a detailed update on the case of prominent religious leader Walter Magaya, who faces four new counts of rape spanning several years. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe outlined the specific fresh allegations in a news bulletin, following the prophet’s dramatic arrest on 26 January.

Walter Magaya, the founder of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries, was taken into custody outside the Harare Magistrates’ Court. He now confronts detailed allegations from four different women, with incidents said to have occurred between 2016 and 2023. The state strongly opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the charges and concerns over witness interference.

The Four Counts: A Detailed Breakdown
The NPAZ bulletin provided granular detail on each of the four counts. The allegations describe scenarios where the complainants, who were either congregants or employees linked to Magaya’s institutions, were allegedly invited to private locations under specific pretexts.

Count 1, from 2020, involves a 24-year-old ministerial worker. The bulletin states she “alleges she was invited to a hotel room under the pretext of Bible study, locked inside and raped.”

Count 2, from 2023, concerns a 22-year-old woman. The NPAZ reports she “claims she was instructed to stay at Yadah Hotel for prayers to stop spiritual manifestations, during which she was allegedly raped in the Presidential Suite.”

The third count dates back to 2016. Here, a 32-year-old woman “alleges the accused person offered her employment in a housing project, drove her to a Borrowdale house and raped her.”

For the fourth count, where a date is not specified, a 21-year-old shop attendant “alleges she was invited to a hotel as a reward for selling the accused person’s books, where she was allegedly locked in a room and forced into sexual intercourse.”

Arrest Sparks Heated Court Exchange
Magaya’s arrest on 26 January immediately sparked controversy in court. His lawyer, Admire Rubaya, protested the manner of the arrest, alleging it was a tactic to keep his client detained after an application for removal from remand on prior charges. Rubaya described the arrest scene with strong words.

“He was escorted to a commuter omnibus with no seats and was ordered to sit on the floor, as smart as he is. It’s a sad day for justice,” Rubaya told the court.

He further argued,

“What is the intention of arresting a man of God who has come to court on numerous occasions, surrendered his passport and title deeds, in such fashion?”

Prosecutors Clemence Chimbari and Tendai Shonhai dismissed these claims. Chimbari stated the arrest followed completed investigations.

“An arrest is effected where there is reasonable suspicion that a criminal offence has been committed,” Chimbari said, adding, “The timing of the arrest should not be interpreted as an attempt to torture the accused in any way.”

Bail Battle And Forthcoming Trial
With rape being a serious offence, bail can only be granted by the High Court. Magaya’s lawyers filed a bail application with the High Court on 28 January, with a hearing set for 29 January. Meanwhile, the magistrate’s court has remanded him in custody. The trial on these four new counts is scheduled to begin on 16 February 2026 and run continuously until 19 February.

The NPAZ concluded its bulletin by reaffirming its commitment to due process. It stated,

“The NPAZ remains committed to upholding due process, protecting survivors and ensuring the integrity of criminal proceedings.”

The case is still ongoing amid significant public and media scrutiny.
