HH says the Bally movement cuts across all political, religious, racial, ethnic and all other artificial barriers

Fellow citizens,

The past few weeks, social and mainstream media has been rocked with what has come to be known as the ‘Bally fever’ or ‘Ballymania’ as our young people like to call it. In this wholly Zambian youth initiated project, we have had the rare honour to be bestowed as Bally(responsible and responsive leader), which we are so profoundly grateful for. We wish to inform our nation’s youth that we take this Bally mission very seriously and respectfully.

Country men and women, this Bally movement has no party affiliations and doesn’t start and end with HH as some people would like you to believe. It cuts across political, religious, racial, ethnic, and any other artificial barriers. The Bally identity and revolution is composed of the Zambian young people, (including those in the PF) that have been cheated, abused and robbed of a livelihood and future by the PF corruption and mismanagement of national affairs, especially on matters of equitably sharing of the national cake, through the provision of sound education, proper healthcare, decent housing, good jobs and public safety that encompasses the fair and prudent application of law and order.

There’s no doubt that the Bally movement of our nation’s young people has unsettled the PF and their surrogates, and it’s not a mere coincidence that during this same period, they have perpetuated terrorist attacks and raids on Radio Stations and young journalists that run them, and have further attempted to down play HH’s effective social media interactions, through Facebook and Twitter, as being inconsequential and shortsighted, and yet they too use the same platforms to project their lies and deception.

This is because they are scared of the Bally voice that is reaching out to a troubled and angry generation of young people that have been left behind, by the hollow promises of the PF of more money in people’s pockets, more jobs which have turned out to be ‘no money in people’s pockets’ no jobs, more taxes, more corruption and theft of public resources like Mukula tree and gold. Bally will not allow this day light robbery and irresponsible behaviour, this is our solemn promise to the Zambian people.

My advice to all our citizens young and old is, don’t be afraid and discouraged. Take heed of late Bob Nester Marley’s lyrics ‘you can’t run away from yourself and leave the fight for another day’. And to all you Ballymaniacs out there, the fight against the PF corruption, lies and terrorism, rests squarely on your shoulders when you obtain your NRC and voter’s card. On the day of voting, be vigilant and protect the vote. Meanwhile don’t leave any stone unturned by ensuring you go out there to campaign using social media and any other means possible.

Sinazongwe MP weeps over residents’ poverty

SINAZONGWE UPND member of parliament Gift Sialubalo on Friday wept after seeing how people in his constituency were suffering at the hands of the PF regime which has turned a blind eye on the hunger situation in the area.

And the residents described Sialubalo as their true political messiah who had sacrificed a lot for them.

Addressing a gathering that welcomed him when he toured developmental projects that he was sponsoring using his personal resources in the constituency, Sialubalo who could not stand the desperate faces of impoverished hungry residents complaining of spending nights without food, become emotional and wept in front of the them.

He said the government despite knowing that Sinazongwe being a valley did not receive enough rainfall, it continued to pay a blind eye to concerns of the people in the area.

“My people desperately need food because their crops didn’t do well while majority of them never even planted anything because they did not receive the rains in time. There livestock got depleted last year buying food and now they have nothing else to sell to buy food,” he said.

And senior headman Siamankawa appealed to the government to consider sending relief food to the people of Sinazongwe especially in Mweemba chiefdom.

The traditional leader said time for politicking was over. He said the government needs to address problems affecting the people.

“Our son Sialubalo cannot manage to feed the entire population of Sinazongwe, he has done a lot so far using his personal resources to build schools, boreholes and in some instances buying food to help especially the aged,” Siamankawa said.

Another resident, Dyness Sosele described Sialubalo as the political messiah of the area.

“Hon MP your works in the constituency from your personal resources and CDF is so immense. We wish you long life and if it means dying soon its better us here we just die and you remain alive so that you continue developing and touching many lives of people in Sinazongwe. From the time you went to parliament you have never neglected us,” said Sosele.

December Siacinzonzo vowed come 2021 people of Sinazongwe will still vote for Sialubalo.

“We don’t want you to be a one-time MP, no! You have proved to us that you have a heart for people in your constituency. Your works speaks for itself,” said Siacinzonzo.

Meanwhile, newly elected Sinazongwe district UPND youth chairman George Bbabi said youths in the area would ensure that come 2021 Sialubalo was retained in parliament again.

US military adviser resigns after Trump’s controversial photo-op at church

A Department of Defense adviser resigned, effective immediately, from the military’s science board citing what he believed to be a violation of conduct from Defense Secretary Mark Esper.

In his resignation letter, James Miller Jr., the former under secretary of defense for policy from 2012 to 2014, recalled that he swore an oath of office to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States … and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same,” similar to what the defense secretary had done before he took office.

“On Monday, June 1, 2020, I believe that you violated that oath,” Miller wrote in his letter to Esper, which was obtained by The Washington Post.

Miller’s reasoning centered around President Donald Trump’s controversial visit to St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, DC, on Monday, where he posed with a Bible for photographs as protesters in the surrounding area were hit with smoke canisters and pepper balls at the event, according to the United States Park Police.

The trip was widely condemned by religious leaders, including Washington Archbishop Wilton Gregory, who called it “baffling and reprehensible.”

Esper, along with US Army Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was also present during the visit.

“Law-abiding protesters just outside the White House were dispersed using tear gas and rubber bullets — not for the sake of safety, but to clear a path for a presidential photo op,” Miller wrote. “You then accompanied President Trump in walking from the White House to St. John’s Episcopal Church for that photo.”

“You may not have been able to stop President Trump from directing this appalling use of force, but you could have chosen to oppose it,” Miller added. “Instead, you visibly supported it.”

In his letter, Miller also queried Esper on where he believed the Constitution’s limits were in relation to his duties.

“You must have thought long and hard about where that line should be drawn,” Miller wrote. “I must now ask: If last night’s blatant violations do not cross the line for you, what will?”

“Unfortunately, it appears there may be few if any lines that President Trump is not willing to cross, so you will probably be faced with this terrible question again in the coming days,” he added. “You may be asked to take, or to direct the men and women serving in the US military to take, actions that further undermine the Constitution and harm Americans.”

Esper claimed he was unaware of where he was going with the entourage on Monday.

“I thought I was going to do two things: to see some damage and to talk to the troops,” he said in an NBC News interview.

“I didn’t know where I was going,” he added. “I wanted to see how much damage actually happened.”

Miller served on the military’s Defense Science Board, a group of retired senior officials who are “best equipped to tackle the Department’s challenges in acquisition, cyber, communication technology, and weapons of mass destruction.”

He was awarded the Medal for Distinguished Public Service, the Defense Department’s highest honorary award for civilians, four times in his career, according to his biography from the Center for a New American Security think-tank.

“I wish you the best, in very difficult times,” Miller said at the end of his letter. “The sanctity of the US Constitution, and the lives of Americans, may depend on your choices.”

George W. Bush issues statement on ‘brutal suffocation’ of Floyd: ‘It is time for us to listen’

by: Nexstar Media Wire

Posted: Jun 2, 2020 / 05:46 PM EDT / Updated: Jun 2, 2020 / 05:46 PM EDT

(Nexstar Media Wire) – Former President George W. Bush issued a statement Tuesday regarding the “brutal suffocation of George Floyd,” saying it is “time for us to listen” and that it is time for America to “examine our tragic failures.”

The full statement is below:

“Laura and I are anguished by the brutal suffocation of George Floyd and disturbed by the injustice and fear that suffocate our country. Yet we have resisted the urge to speak out, because this is not the time for us to lecture. It is time for us to listen. It is time for America to examine our tragic failures – and as we do, we will also see some of our redeeming strengths.

It remains a shocking failure that many African Americans, especially young African American men, are harassed and threatened in their own country. It is a strength when protesters, protected by responsible law enforcement, march for a better future. This tragedy — in a long series of similar tragedies — raises a long overdue question: How do we end systemic racism in our society? The only way to see ourselves in a true light is to listen to the voices of so many who are hurting and grieving. Those who set out to silence those voices do not understand the meaning of America — or how it becomes a better place.

America’s greatest challenge has long been to unite people of very different backgrounds into a single nation of justice and opportunity. The doctrine and habits of racial superiority, which once nearly split our country, still threaten our Union. The answers to American problems are found by living up to American ideals — to the fundamental truth that all human beings are created equal and endowed by God with certain rights. We have often underestimated how radical that quest really is, and how our cherished principles challenge systems of intended or assumed injustice. The heroes of America — from Frederick Douglass, to Harriet Tubman, to Abraham Lincoln, to Martin Luther King, Jr. — are heroes of unity. Their calling has never been for the fainthearted. They often revealed the nation’s disturbing bigotry and exploitation — stains on our character sometimes difficult for the American majority to examine. We can only see the reality of America’s need by seeing it through the eyes of the threatened, oppressed, and disenfranchised.

That is exactly where we now stand. Many doubt the justice of our country, and with good reason. Black people see the repeated violation of their rights without an urgent and adequate response from American institutions. We know that lasting justice will only come by peaceful means. Looting is not liberation, and destruction is not progress. But we also know that lasting peace in our communities requires truly equal justice. The rule of law ultimately depends on the fairness and legitimacy of the legal system. And achieving justice for all is the duty of all.

This will require a consistent, courageous, and creative effort. We serve our neighbors best when we try to understand their experience. We love our neighbors as ourselves when we treat them as equals, in both protection and compassion. There is a better way — the way of empathy, and shared commitment, and bold action, and a peace rooted in justice. I am confident that together, Americans will choose the better way.”

ZAMBIA’S GOLD IS FOR ZAMBIANS – HH

By Hakainde Hichilema, UPND President.

The United Party for National Development ( UPND) has taken keen interest in the recent Joint Ventures announced by ZCCM pertaining
to gold processing in Zambia, being a Public Interest Entity majority owned by the people of
Zambia.
We have taken note of the statement issued by Barnaby Mulenga, the Permanent Secretary of
the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, and ZCCM Non-Executive Director on 24 May
2020 clarifying matters related to the joint ventures, the parties involved, and how Zambia stands
to benefit. We also note the statement issued on 25 May 2020 by ZCCM Management. Whilst we
appreciate clarifications issued to address public concerns, it is unfortunate that the letters leave
the public with more questions than answers.
The UPND has therefore taken the liberty to collate the concerns of the general public, as well as
conduct some basic due diligence on the key partners ZCCM has engaged as part of its drive to
formalise the gold mining industry in Zambia. Effective due diligence when entering into Joint
Ventures is critical, particularly so in this scenario as ZCCM
represents the hopes of many Zambians in ensuring Zambia does not lose out on its Gold
resource, as it has with most others.
In the interest of public transparency we ask that ZCCM – Investment Holdings share the Joint Venture agreements
between; ZCCM and Karma Mining and Rural Development Limited (KMRD) in relation to the
establishment of the Consolidated Gold Company of Zambia (CCGZ); and between CCGZ and
Array Metals and Natural Resources Limited (AMNR) for the formation of the yet to be publicly
named entity.
ZCCM should also help clarify the following pertinent questions:

( A) DUE DILLIGENCE ON KARMA MINING AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT LIMITED;

1. Which expert conducted the due diligence over the Joint Venture partner and what wasthe outcome of this exercise?
2. Is ZCCM aware that Sudan appears on the United States of America List of Countries
engaging in State Sponsored Terrorism and subject to US sanctions?
3. Is ZCCM aware that gold mining in Sudan is often used to fund militia and terrorism? What
due diligence was performed to ascertain that the new partners were not engaged in theseactivities?
4. Is ZCCM aware that financial transactions conducted directly between the Government
through ZCCM and Bank of Zambia (BoZ) transacted in USD would move through the US
financial system into Sudan and could be a breach of US sanctions as this could result in the
financing of militia and terrorism? What measures have been taken to prevent this?
5. Is ZCCM aware that one of the shareholders in Karma Mining is a government Minister in
Sudan, and is therefore a Politically Exposed Person? Were there any concerns, ifso, how were these concerns addressed?
6. Can details of the 20 years of experience by Karma in Gold processing be shared?

(B) DUE DILIGENCE ON ARRAY METALS AND NATURAL RESOURCES LIMITED;
1. Which expert conducted the due diligence over the Joint Venture partner and what was
the outcome of this exercise?
2. Is ZCCM aware that one of the Ultimate Beneficial Owners of Array Metals, the Dott
Services Group in Uganda, has been publicly implicated in alleged financial scandals and
allegations of shoddy work on large Government contracts? This resulted in the groupbeing banned from public contracts in Uganda, before a settlement was eventually
reached.
3. Is ZCCM aware that a Senior Executive from Array Metals Group has had business
dealings with a UN sanctioned individual and has been an official advisor to the Ugandan
Government, therefore being Politically Exposed? Further alleged links to Zambian
government officials are noted. What comfort was obtained before engaging?
4. ZCCM states that Array Metals is a Global Mining firm. Can ZCCM share details of their globalexperience in mining Gold and processing Gold.
5. It is noted that Array Metals and Natural Resources LLC, the parent of the Zambian entity,
was only registered in August 2018, in Delaware (USA), a known Tax Haven, offering a
veil over some of the Ultimate Beneficial Owners. Can the Ministry of Mines confirm who the beneficial
owners of this entity are as this would have certainly formed part of the due diligence
exercise.

( C) TENDER PROCESS

1. What tender procedures were performed, and what opportunities were given to the public
before engaging the two Joint Venture partners? Was the public made aware that ZCCM
was seeking partners?
2. It is clear from the government statement that KMRD had not yet set up it’s gold processing facilities
in Zambia before the Joint Venture. As per the above question, what alternative partners /
applications were sought to evaluate and compare the best experienced and
technologically advanced partner for ZCCM?

3. Did ZCCM consider accessing the local capital markets if Investment Capital was achallenge? The Zambian Public have shown willingness to invest in a gold mining andprocessing operation, which could have ensured revenues remain in the country.
Expertise and technology could have been brought in to educate local miners over the
project period.
4. ZCCM had over K750m ($62m equivalent) in cash / deposits as at 31 March 2019. Did
management consider a larger equity holding or going alone with an expertimplementation partner?
5. It is noted in the government statement that the Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Commerce provided
guidance to KMRD to engage ZCCM for this Joint Venture due to gold being recognised
as a strategic asset for Zambia, as pronounced in October 2019. Only then would mineral
processing licenses be issued. Was there undue pressure from the Ministries for ZCCM to
engage KMRD considering the speed within which this Joint Venture was concluded
(announced December 2019), and the fact that KMRD’s investment since 2016 would be
lost if ZCCM rejected their approach? Did the Ministries override the independence of the
ZCCM Board to require this Joint Venture arrangement?
6. We also note that the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development
Barnaby Mulenga acts as guardian for the approval of the Mineral Processing License,
and at the same time sits on the Board of ZCCM. This is the same Ministry that advised
KMRD that they work with ZCCM if they wanted the license. Is this not a conflict of
interest, and can the Ministry of Mines confirm that the PS did declare this conflict and exclude himself from
any decisions by the Board of ZCCM
Investment Holdings?

(D) OTHER QUESTIONS

1. Can the Ministry of Mines confirm the financial and non-financial investment by ZCCM into the Joint Ventures, as
well as the equivalent investment by the Joint Venture partners.
2. Can the Ministry of Mines confirm how the ownership structure was arrived at for the two Joint Ventures.
3. It is stated that ZCCM can either increase or take 100% ownership of CGCZ after 5 years.
Is this contingent on anything? What are the profitability forecasts for this company that
allow the Sudanese investors to completely earn back their investment plus profit in only 5
years, an extraordinary return. Or is ZCCM expected to pay for this increased holding? If
so, what is the cost?
(E) ECONOMIC MODEL
1. What expertise are the Sudanese and Ugandan investors bringing that ZCCM did not have
access to, or were unable to bring in from globally renowned and trusted gold mining
jurisdictions such as South Africa, Canada, USA and Australia? What is the real value
addition of these partners?
2. How does the BoZ buying gold from companies that are effectively majority foreign owned
help build reserves effectively? If the BoZ buys gold locally from a foreign owned entity,
the profits will be used to buy foreign currency for transferring abroad, which defeats the whole purpose.
The current effective shareholding structure leaves a third of Gold processing revenues
attributable to ZCCM, but this only forms a fraction of the total production value chain, i.e.
the foreign owned Array Metals will sell Gold ore to the Joint Venture entity.

3. Zambians have already shown the ability to mine gold themselves in many parts of
Zambia. What was needed was formalisation of this industry to ensure that operations are
performed safely and legally, with majority owned Zambian entities throughout the value
chain, benefitting government through tax revenues, and not indirectly funding illegal
crime.

We take the view that Zambia’s Gold resources must be exploited entirely for the benefit of theZambian people, whose interest we collectively profess to serve. We demand that the gold deal between Zambia and Sudan should be cancelled. It is meant to loot Zambia’s resources in order to benefit foreigners

ConCourt allows UPND joining Mwelwa’s deregistration of parties case

THE Constitutional Court has authorised the UPND to be joined as an interested party in a matter Livingstone magistrate Benjamin Mwelwa wants it to compel the Registrar of Societies to deregister any political party which came into existence following the Amendment of the Constitution on January 5, 2016 and has not promoted and practiced democracy through regular, free and fair elections within its political party.

Justice Mungeni Mulenga indicated that the UPND has sufficient interest in the matter.

The UPND in its affidavit in support of summons for joinder as an interested party sworn by party secretary general Stephen Katuka wants to join the petition as an interested party being Zambia’s largest opposition party.

Katuka said the petition by magistrate Mwelwa was targeted at all political parties of which UPND was the main opposition party, which warrants him to join the proceedings as an interested party.

“As an interested party, justice demands that I be joined to proceedings and be heard on matters for determination therein,” said Katuka.

When the matter came up for hearing of the joinder application in Chambers on May 28 before justice Mulenga, magistrate Mwelwa objected the joinder application, on grounds that UPND did not demonstrate sufficient interest to be joined to the petition.

He said it was important for a party intending to join proceedings to show its standing (locus standi) as an interested party in the matter but UPND did not shown their interest but only indicated that they are the main opposition political party in Zambia.

“My lady, the intended interested party cannot be joined to these proceedings as they are improper before this court,” he argued.

The electoral body did not object to the joinder application.

Justice Mulenga, in her ruling, said that the UPND had sufficient interest in the matter and accordingly granted the application to join as an interested party.

In this matter, magitarate Mwelwa has petitioned the Constitutional Court over the unconstitutional appointment of political party secretaries general and other party members by political party presidents.
Magistrate Mwelwa, who has sued the State in his capacity as a Zambian and cited the Attorney General in the matter as first respondent and the Electoral Commission of Zambia as second respondent, has argued that constitutions of political parties are not in conformity with the Zambian Constitution (Amendment) Act No.2 of 2016 as they have not promoted and practiced democracy through regular, free and fair elections.

In his petition, magistrate Mwelwa said that following the amendment of the constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No.2 of 2016, it is a requirement that political parties, inter alia, promote and practice democracy through regular, free and fair elections within their parties.

He said the said elections for all political parties in Zambia were to be conducted within 12 months from January 5, 2016 to January 4,2017.

Magistrate Mwelwa suggested that political parties’ constitutions should be in conformity with the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No.2 of 2016.

He noted that there is no political party’s secretary general in Zambia who has ever been elected since January 5, 2016 to January 4,2017 in compliance to promote democracy through regular, free and fair elections within their parties.

Magistrate Mwelwa said since January 4, 2017, all the political parties in Zambia have failed to practice democracy through regular, free and fair elections as provided for by law.

He stated that despite all political parties having failed to comply with the law, they have continued to exist and also participating in elections conducted by ECZ.

He stated that ECZ has conducted many elections and has allowed political parties which have ceased to exist to participate in those elections.

Magistrate Mwelwa is seeking a declaration that any political party which was registered as such came into existence after January 5, 2016 and which has not promoted and practiced democracy trough regular, free and fair elections within its political party to date has breached Article 60(2)(d) of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016 therefore such a political party ceased to exist as o political party in Zambia.

Magistrate Mwelwa wants an order and declaration that the Electoral Commission of Zambia, having allowed the political parties which have ceased to exist to participate in elections conducted since January 4, 2017 is not only illegal but unconstitutional as such acts are in violation of Article 60(2)(d) of the of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016 and also section 18(1) and (2) of the constitution of Zambia Act No. 1 of 2016.

He is seeking an order that the Registrar of Societies deregisters all political parties for having ceased to exist as political parties in Zambia on January 4, 2017.

Magistrate Mwelwa further wants an order that ECZ should not allow political parties which have ceased to exist to continue to participate in the future elections to be conducted as such acts will be in violation of Article 60(2)(d) of the constitution (Amendment) Act No.2 of 2016 and section 18(1) and (2) of the Constitution of Zambia Act No.1 of 2016.

KBF is not a celebrity – Hamukale

SOUTHERN Province minister Edify Hamukale says PF won’t risk losing elections by experimenting with unpopular candidates like Kelvin Fube Bwalya.

Better known as KBF, Bwalya is a prominent Lusaka lawyer who was instrumental in securing Edgar Lungu’s nomination as the PF’s presidential candidate following the death of party founder and then president Michael Sata in 2014.

He however fell out of the ruling party’s favour in April last year after declaring that he would stand for the PF presidency.

Bwalya had advised President Lungu that he had done his best but needed to step aside as party and national leader.

The party later expelled Bwalya, but he recently claimed that he was never served with a letter of expulsion, and thus remains a member of the PF.

But addressing the media in Choma yesterday, Dr Hamukale said next year’s general elections were not about experimenting with leadership.

“PF won’t risk losing elections by experimenting unpopular candidates like Kelvin Bwalya Fube. He may have a right to stand but the fact is that he is not popular on the ground such that even if he was to stand with any footballer, he can lose by early morning,” he said.

Dr Hamukale advised Bwalya to consider standing for parliament instead.

“We don’t want to experiment leadership. He is not known on the grassroots. We don’t have enough time to market another candidate now,” he said. “President Edgar Lungu is already popular. I’m a musician so I know what popularity means. If I was KBF I would stand for MP because that will take him closer to the people.”

Dr Hamukale said Bwalya must understand that Lusaka was not Zambia.

“When you are known in Marapodi or Chawama doesn’t mean that then you are known. He is not known in rural areas like Gwembe,” he said.

Dr Hamukale suggested that if Bwalya stood for parliamentary seat, he would stand a chance to be considered for a ministerial position.

“Let’s not hand over power to the opposition by putting KBF as presidential candidate. He can’t bring any uniqueness in the party because he doesn’t have that. If it is education, we all have it. He is not a celebrity. Let him put aside his presidential ambition to 2026,” he said.

Dr Hamukale pointed out that the opposition would be happy to have Bwalya as PF presidential candidate because he was beatable.

“It will be easy to win him. We can’t risk to float another candidate now. Look at the story of George Weah; he stood and lost because he was not educated but he went back to get education and now he is President. But for KBF he is not yet known. I have seen other people at parliament who are popular there and think can form a party,” he said.

He said Bwalya doesn’t have personal power that can help him win elections.

“He is too high there and smelling perfume,” said Dr Hamukale.

It is too late, the whole country is fed up of PF – Kambwili

NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Chishimba Kambwili says people have already got fed up of the ruling Patriotic Front.

Last week, President Edgar Lungu said the people will soon get fed up of PF if some undisciplined top officials were left unchecked.

“The other thing I want to talk about is discipline in the party. And this time, I am talking about top leadership, the President, the National Committee and other top leaders we have to be disciplined. We will not be respected by our followers if we don’t respect ourselves and respect them. We will not attract new membership if we don’t respect ourselves. We are going to respect ourselves and respect the people by following the law and doing what is right and not taking advantage of our positions. I said this yesterday and I am saying it again; the people that saw UNIP get out of power are the undisciplined members of that party, the people who killed MMD out of government are the undisciplined members and the members who will us PF are the undisciplined members in the party,” President Lungu said.

“People got fed up of the chairman in the UNIP days because he was busy looking at other people’s things and getting land and all those things, people got fed up. Similarly, people got fed up with MMD because they were allocating land illegally and doing all sorts of things people got fed up. Sooner than later, people will get fed up of PF if we allow ourselves to be dominated by thugs and criminals in the name of leaders. So for that reason, don’t expect that you will get the support from the party, from the President, from the chairman, from the Vice-President to any if us the top leadership in the party if you misbehave because you are leaders. We will deal with you,”

But in an interview, Kambwili said it was too late and that the whole country was fed up with the party.

“People are already fed up! It is a party of criminals, a government of criminals. It is too late now. If the President wants people to vote for him, let him clean up his government officials and his party officials because there is too much corruption maybe he can stand a chance but people are already fed up. They believe that it is a government of thieves, by thieves for thieves. The whole country is fed up! In PF today when you become a provincial chairman, you become very rich. When you become a provincial secretary you become very rich, how is that happening? That never used to happen in the past. Today all businesses are controlled by provincial chairmen they are the ones who go to the mines and tell them who to give business. Even the issues with the Ndola Airport go and see who are getting the large chunk of the business, it is provincial officials. But I want to warn them that using their positions to get contracts is an offence it is abuse of authority. And whatever they will build using that money for we will follow to the bitter end until we clean up and those building will belong to the government,” Kambwili said.

And President Lungu said he was not involved in any criminal activities being conducted in his name.

“And if you go round breaking the law and saying ‘no, the President is backing me, I am going to be the President’ you are on your own. People are going round the country saying ‘I’m doing this with the party, SG is involved in this the President’ is backing me in this,’ illicit deals and all, I am not involved. Whether you are a party member, civil servant if you break the law in the name of the party President of the Republic of Zambia, the law will visit you alone. So in short this habit of name throwing and top leaders involved in criminal activities should stop now because the law will visit you one day. I am urging those who have been tempted or [been] attracted to this culture to stop now. So the Central Committee will sit shortly and decide the fate of our colleagues who have been allegedly involved in illegal gold mining activities and you will be informed accordingly. In PF, we don’t have sacrificial lambs or sacred cows everyone is equal,” said president Lungu

But Kambwili wondered why the President failed to fire his officials if they impersonated him.

“How can a President be lamenting that? If he knows them why not fire them or hand them over to the police? Because impersonation is an offence so how can he complain about that? If he is really serious about people impersonating him without his knowledge let him take action. As long as they are not handled to the police station we are all taking it that they are not impersonating him but they are actually working under his instructions. Probably they might know what he does. If at all he does anything illegal they might have something against him and say ‘ah, why should you fire me but you do this?’ I am not talking particularly about President Lungu but generally in the world, if your junior knows what you do, it is difficult for you to fire them. What the President was saying were lamentations he has got the instruments of power to take action why is he failing?” questioned Kambwili.

PF must release findings from Mwinilunga gold scam, demands Kafwaya

FORMER north-western province minister Dawson Kafwaya has demanded that PF must immediately release its findings from investigations conducted into the Mwinilunga gold scam in which its North-Western Province chairman Jackson Kungo was implicated.

And Kafwaya has questioned PF’s special interest in gold mining, which is supposed to be a national strategic asset meant to benefit the masses.

In an interview, Kafwaya demanded that the ruling party released the outcome of its investigations into the Mwinilunga gold scam involving Kungo, dismissed North-Western Police Commissioner Hudson Namachila, among others.

“They said some team had been sent to Mwinilunga to go and investigate what happened at the mine in Mwinilunga. But up to now, the outcome of that investigation hasn’t been availed to the people. So, people are anxious! They want to know what the outcome was from those investigations because it’s like some people are sacred cows. When you look at the provincial chairman, Jackson Kungo, he looks like a sacrificial lamb. There are a lot of people, who are involved in that scam and they should be exposed so that they are known that they were also part of the same syndicate. So, for me, I think Mr Kungo has been sacrificed because we saw a lot of people going there and truly if it was a fact-finding mission about the illegal mining in Mwinilunga, a lot of names, even big names, should have been exposed,” Kafwaya said.

And Kafwaya questioned PF’s particular interest in gold mining.

“That mine is a public thing; it’s not for the party. It is a natural resource for the people of Zambia. So, if there is any investigation, which is done, it should be done publicly so that the people know. And when you compare, there is gold in Petauke, there is gold in Mumbwa and other places, and we have seen small-scale mining going on up to now, but there hasn’t been any serious thing done like the way it has happened in Mwinilunga. So, now, people are wondering that what is it which is in that mine? So, there are just lots of questions about that mine because the locals feel they are being deprived of their birth-right, they should also benefit! So, people are complaining that there is unfairness because if you look at the people, who have been mining gold from the time the local people were displaced, it has been people coming from other areas, not local people,” he observed.

Meanwhile, Kafwaya noted that Zambians could only benefit from the burgeoning gold mining industry if government and its officials did not involve themselves in conducting mining activities.

“The gold mines in Solwezi, Kalumbila, Mwinilunga and surrounding areas should be privately owned if real and meaningful development is to go to the local people. What happens in other parts of the world is that, if you have oil at your family land, you will not be displaced by any other investors and receive little to no compensation at all. Instead, the government will help you find people, who can help establish your plant and start extracting oil. It will be a family mine and the role of government is to ensure you get the best investment so that they can do what governments do best – collect tax! The role of government is not to run mines, it is to collect tax. Mines should be run by families on whose land there is gold, or, indeed, whatever mineral is there,” advised Kafwaya.

“But in this country, we have very colonial laws and policies that are aimed at disadvantaging the locals at the expense of foreign investors so that those in government can get kickbacks! When the British were developing the colonial Constitution, what they had in mind was to ensure that native Africans did not benefit anything from the minerals on their ancestral land, hence the archaic law on land and mineral resources. And today, colonialism is in form of government operatives, who come to beat people, lock them up and displace them out of their ancestral land in the name of government assets. The idea is to enrich themselves! What is happening in North-Western and the surrounding areas is terrible to say the least. No natives are benefiting or will benefit from the gold mines in Mwinilunga. Instead, people from outside the province, in the name of government, are looting North-Western Province of its resources leaving nothing but polluted land, air, water, noise pollution and disease.”

Open Letter To The Republican President Of Zambia Over Corruption Scandals

OPEN LETTER TO THE REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA OVER CORRUPTION SCANDALS.

First and foremost, allow me to remind you Mr President that Chellah Tukuta is not mad or lacking direction with what he is doing now exposing corruption and high immortality among some top government officials and heads of parastatal.

Mr President, corruption is indeed high in your administration and this has contributed decisively to the slow growth of the country’s economy.

Some hide behind your back because of the privilege they have of surrounding your throne but remember people fire the coach when the team is not doing well.

Some ministers in your regime have become filth rich than in any other regimes before. The Mukula scandals are perpetrated by some top government officials and the poor ones get arrested when they involve themselves in these deals to sustain themselves and their poor families.

Why should these rich people be getting richer at the expense of the poor Zambians and legalize the illegality because they are surrounded by the instruments of power.

The land acquisition is also questionable and people surrounding your throne in few years from now will occupy all the land in the country.

Even the same gold mining raise a lot of questions to be answered. Some politicians have an illegal indirect investments in the mining, Black Mountain scandals are not well handled, the Zambia Railway was already captured by some politicians who worked in the past regimes and ghost working and nepotism are very high in government.

The awarding of contracts is also questionable, 48 houses in Chalala scandals haven’t yet been attended to, the commissioner of inquiries launched to investigate certain matters haven’t yet revealed their findings and they are being paid large sums of money, what a nation.

Remember the implications of corruption from the central administration ruins the good rapport of your higher office and the citizens and negatively influence their subordinates to be stealing too.

Your image has been made dirty by the same snakes hiding in green grass. As I am speaking right now, some health centers are selling drugs to business men especially those with shops instead of being given to the sick as prescribed for free.

Corruption is not a serious crime in Zambia because ubomba mwibala alya mwibala is on their lips and they are taking this country as if it belongs to their families. They don’t respect the people they are serving and patients are treated based on their social economic status.

Mind you, the same people that made RB cry in 2011 are the same people your regime absorbed and devoted to work with. They failed to develop the country in the previous regimes, what assurance did you have that with you they can develop it.

Mr President, I think you need more than human advisors to have more wisdom to see the people who are not meaning well for your administration and the people of Zambia.

As a Christian nation, I pray that the spirit of God guide you and bless you with King Solomon’s wisdom to be able to sieve lambs from fox in your administration.

His Excellence, when the thugs dominates the government, the ruling party looses popularity. Some of your Intelligence personnel are not bold enough to tell you the truth.

They tell you what your ears would be happy hearing yet in the actual sense, the ground is not okay out here, your reputation has been ruined by the same people surrounding your throne.

Corruption has been openly exposed and it’s dangerous because youths are watching. As they are watching, they condemn it not because it’s bad but because they are not in positions that they could steal too.

If a proper research was to be carried out, 70% of the youths aspiring for political leadership today their main purpose is to get rich as soon as they could through intellect stealing instead of serving the people.

Mr President, you can fight the rampart corruption by motivating the Anti Corruption commission, Financial Intelligence Committee ,DEC, courts and many others to carryout their roles because some ministers have powers to silence these institutions provided that the higher office has not issued the statement of caution.

As am winding up, am appealing to all top government officials in all the Ministries, ZRA, FRA, RDA, and many others to respect the law and check yourselves because darkness has no power over righteous.

The law shall catch up with you, your properties both within and outside the country will be confiscated, your bank accounts will be frizzed and you shall rote in jail.

You can’t be stealing for the poor Zambians and spend large sums of money which were suppose to be diverted to education, health and many other important social services on your family members and prostitutes as if this country belongs to your families.

Some of you who were acquitted on corruption charges without convincing reasons, I don’t want to mention you but know that Zambia is bigger than you and we are not done with you yet. You deserve reaping what you sow and you shall surely do so provided that you’re still alive.

My appeal to Zambians especially young people, let us not celebrate thieves and dance for them because they give us something. They amass a lot of wealth for their families and we the people and our children end up suffering.

On top of that, they are enabling the Chinese to occupy as many land as they could and respect them more than we the citizens. In case it doesn’t affect you, remember some of us have Zambia at heart and largely the nation and families to care.

I have a dream a Zambian Magufuli will rule this country and these lawlessness we see today shall end. Such political positions will not be used to amass wealth but for service delivery.
A lot of you who hide in power yet your hands are filthy with innocent people’s blood and poor people’s money will be exposed and shall pay the golden price for your evil deeds.

Your inhuman attitudes are so disgusting, how I wish I was the President, I would love to die for being bold that to live long for celebrating cowards and glorify your dirty names!!!

Devil Has A Plan For Your Life, The Case Of Patriotic Government And Its Humble Leader

DEVIL HAS A PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE, THE CASE OF PATRIOTIC GOVERNMENT AND ITS HUMBLE LEADER—BY OMIYA HANKANGA

02/06/2020

John 10:10 reads ‘the thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy’.

I realize that John 10:10 is a well-known verse to millions of believers around the world, but today I want to give you fresh insight into this powerful scripture.

Rather than simply reading it as you have read it thousand times before, let’s dig a little deeper into the Greek words behind this verse to see what we can mine from the treasures of the Greek New Testament.

After finishing stealing all your goods and possessions, he will take his plan to rob you blind to the next level. He will create conditions and situations so horrible that you will see no way to solve the problem except to sacrifice everything that remains from his previous attacks. The goal of this thief is to totally waste and devastate your life. If nothing stops him, he will leave you insolvent, flat broke and cleaned out in every area of your life. You will end up feeling as if you are finished and out of business.

Make no mistake — the enemy’s ultimate aim is to obliterate you….”
There’s no doubt about it that the devil (PF) wants you to be defeated. Through politics of regionalism, tribalism, ,through violence, hurt speeches the devil (PF) wants you to struggle through your entire life. Through poverty, lack of employment, high taxes, through unbearable high cost of living the devil (PF) wants you to be sick due to lack of medication in the hospital, poor health facilities, depressed, down in the dumps, glum and miserable.
The devil wants you to feel like you will never hit the target with your life through high tariffs of electricity, high fuel prices, high food prices, bad educational standards.

But Jesus wants to give you a life that is unrivaled, unequaled, matchless, incomparable, richly loaded, and overflowing with life to the ultimate maximum!
So now that you know the devil (PF) wants to make your life a less-than-gratifying, unhappy, uneventful life, a life that no one will even notice is gone once it’s over. what are you going to do about it? I urge you to put on the brakes and stop Satan (PF) from wreaking havoc in your life. Jesus will give you the power to resist every attack and to overcome every strategy the devil (PF) ever tries to use against you!

PF is a danger to the nation as demonstrated by the killing of a Zambian owned businesses like The Post, Finance Bank, Prime TV they’re killing Zambian owned CEC,a publicly traded company with many Zambians including pensioners among other shareholders.
PF continues to be a cursed party that has lost direction and there is nothing Zambians can expect from PF.

But not all hope is lost because through unite of purpose as a country we can do better by ensuring that come 2021 we all vote out Satan (PF who have come to steal, kill and destroy) out of the office and ensure that we vote in prudent leadership of Hakainde Hichilema aka Bally and the United Party For National Development(UPND).

WHY DOES THE PF WANT TO TAKE OVER CEC?

By Elias Munshya

Our concern for the viability of our country is what drives us. It is never to be malicious. But to believe that our country can be and do better. We find no pleasure in assailing this President and his clueless cabinet. However, if we are to inspire development among our people, we must challenge him and his people to do justice and invest in systems that will develop this country. We have expressed our concerns variously. But it appears like the more we write and talk, the more fortified this President gets in doing the wrong things. There is no commitment to principle or common sense. It is chipantepante par excellence. Government systems are all firing in all different directions, contradicting each other, and doing a dose of bad manners. What are we to make of all this? Remain quiet and pretend as if everything is alright? No way. Speaking, we must speak out. If not for the President to know that he is headed the wrong direction, then to put it on record that Zambia did not fail for lack of ideas. It failed because we had a leadership that chose to run government affairs like a headless chicken – simpering across the yard, dotting the floor with little sprinkles of blood and forsaken feathers.

When a government lacks principles – anything and everything goes. What swallows principles in the Lungu government is the penchant and appetite for theft and corruption. When corruption begins to rule the day, even straight forward things become extremely complicated. Corruption makes digging of gold in Mwinilunga to be a complicated exercise. Corruption complicates everything. This desire to steal steals from our collective resolve our ability to solve problems.

This then brings us to the Konkola Copper Mines saga. When ZCCM-IH went to a judge at midnight to liquidate KCM, we were told that the government of Zambia wanted to chase away Vedanta Resources, so that the mine can make a lot of money for the people of Zambia. We called the government’s actions for what it was – it was an act of total corruption. There was no interest on the part of the government to resolve problems at Konkola. The only thing that this PF government saw at Konkola was the opportunity to steal. In no time, ZCCM-IH appointed PF aligned lawyers to be the liquidators of KCM. With that comes millions of dollars paycheck. We knew that KCM had been making losses for reasons that are beyond this article. However, armed with this knowledge, the PF aligned lawyers saw KCM as the cash cow, and so they quickly went for liquidation. This liquidation was a bit strange, though. They told us that it was not really a liquidation, but a way to recapitalize the mines. They even deceived us that the liquidator had started to dismantle the debt that KCM had. It was all a lie. The windfall of millions they promised was nowhere to be had. It was all a fluke. The only people who emerged winners are the PF aligned lawyers and their party. The Zambian people lost.

One of the debts the liquidators claimed they were going to dismantle was the debt that KCM was owing to the Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC). You see, when corrupt governments want to take over a company, they begin manufacturing lies. The first lie regarding CEC was to make the false claim that somehow CEC was exploiting ZESCO. We all know that the biggest culprit that exploits ZESCO is the PF government. The PF party itself has several of its operatives on the payroll of ZESCO. The ZESCO board has several PF party operatives masquerading as sensible people. If indeed, the PF government wanted sense to prevail at ZESCO, one would think that it will begin with putting the PF house in order. But no. The PF party went into overdrive and created lies about CEC and its arrangement with ZESCO and KCM. The PF party claimed that it had taken a keen interest in the contractual agreement between CEC and KCM, including the debt that KCM was owing to CEC. The PF party’s keen interest in this CEC and KCM arrangement was just for one reason – to corruptly absolve KCM of its debt to CEC and to intimidate CEC in the process.

The result now is sad. The Minister of Energy, Honourable Matthew Nkhuwa, has announced that the government through the Energy Regulation Board will take over CEC’s cables and transformers. The supplier of electricity to Konkola will no longer be CEC, but ZESCO using CEC infrastructure. This has never happened in the history of Zambia. ZESCO has never been a direct supplier of power to the mines for many reasons, including common sense. How can a company that load-sheds the nation from six to six be entrusted with supplying critical power to the mining companies? How can a company that cannot plan a single civilian use of power, be assigned to keep mines running? ZESCO can produce electricity, but it cannot by itself distribute that power to the mines. Even during the Kaunda regime, ZCCM had a completely separate Power Division responsible for powering the mines. It was not ZESCO’s role. But not now. The PF party has seen this as an opportunity to steal, to extend ZESCO’s incapability, and to cover up KCM (in liquidation)’s indebtedness to CEC.

But what is even more concerning over the PF’s treatment of CEC is that it is a local company. It has various local shareholders, including private individuals, Zambian parastatals and the general public. It is an indigenous initiative. But we understand that one of the CEC shareholders is an opposition leader. And for that reason, CEC must die or must be killed, or the PF must use some way to frustrate its subsistence. Nothing matters for the PF. Business does not matter at all. All that matters is that its mafias have enough channels to steal from the Zambian people. And as that is happening, an aloof president is busy trotting all over Zambia covering his mouth with a mask. It is the new normal he is calling it. But we all know, it is the new normal of theft and corruption.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp picks Okocha’s goal as most spectacular in German football history; Praises mentality of African players

0

Liverpool head coach, Jurgen Klopp has praised Nigerian football legend, Jay Jay Okocha’s goal in the 1992/1993 season as the best goal in the history of German football, while also praising the mentality of African footballers.

Okocha, 46, scored the goal when he played for Eintracht Frankfurt against Karlsruher during the 1992-93 Bundesliga season as he dribbled past a number of defenders, before calmly slotting home past legendary German goal keeper Oliver Kahn.

Okocha’s goal was voted as Goal of the Season by many football magazines.

Popular German TV sports programme Sportschau and Klopp a German himself with three African players at Liverpool – Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Guinea’s Naby Keita, has now praised Okocha while also praising African footballers.

“Okocha scored the most spectacular goal in the history of German football. It took like five minutes of Kahn and his defenders diving on the floor before he put the ball in the net,” Klopp told the Guardian.

“Some of the world’s best players have been from Africa; George Weah, Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure. In their generation they were some of the best players so why should we not sign them? It’s great.”

Klopp whose wife lived in Kenya for three years, cited star player Mo Salah, who drives more than four hours to training every day as a classic case of why African players are successful.

“In Europe, it’s difficult to find that [special story] – maybe in London it’s possible, I’m not too sure. All the African players have this story. It means they are motivated through the roof. It’s about the story that is behind them,” he continued.

“If you look at Sadio Mane: running away from home. Mo Salah: driving four and a half hours every day to training. You have these stories there. You don’t have these stories here. I read an article about the influence of Mo Salah at this moment in the Arabic world – it’s unbelievable!”

I love the fact that we have so many African players, until the Africa Cup of Nations starts. Then it’s: ‘Oh my God!’” he added.

“It’s still better than it used to be because before they were out in the middle of the season. In the past, because the Africa Cup of Nations was in the winter it was really a reason not to sign a player because you would lose him for four weeks in the middle of the season. That was really something we had in our minds always.”

Barotse People Describe Prince Mwanyanda As A Sellout

By Kangwanda Mucembele

People in Barotseland have asked the embattled prince Mwananyanda Inyambo yeta, son to senior chief Inyambo yeta of Mwandi Kuta to stay away from the affairs of Barotseland because he will be injured. Prince Mwananyanda a twin brother to yubya Inyambo Yeta a police officer based in Northern region of Zambia.

Mwananyanda is a lawyer by profession based in Lusaka and works at Dove chambers legal practitioners. The outcry follows his recently quoted support for Zambia’s bill 10 amendments in the daily nation newspaper and the Mast newspaper where he said, he pleaded with the traditional leadership in the area to sit down their members of parliament and ask them to put aside their political agenda and look at Bill 10 objectively.

Prince Yeta advised MPs to stop playing partisan politics over the Constitution amendment process or risk plunging the country into chaos.
He said there was need for continuous Constitution refinement until a good document is attained.
“I am pleading with the traditional leadership in this province to sit down with the MPs and ask them to support Bill 10, regardless of whether they are PF or UPND. The MPs must put national interest first before their party agendas,” he said.

“The Litunga used to appoint chiefs and you cannot just come and get powers away from him. We will not accept that. Tell them to put aside their agenda because if we continue like this, we will put this country into chaos.”
He said the traditional leadership would not accept the current status quo where their authority has been taken away in the Constitution while MPs who have the power to change it are engaged in petty partisan fights.
“Let’s stop playing partisan politics over issues of importance like the Constitution. The constitution also touches on the royal establishments. There is no constitution which has stood the test of time. All the laws change with time. What was important yesterday may not be important. I tend to wonder when people reject these amendments of the law,” he said.
“It is the responsibility of the MPs through the National Assembly to enact laws and therefore, my request to our royal highnesses is that we need to sit down our members of parliament and advise them to put their interests aside and put the national agenda first.”

.

This was the following reactions from the people;

1.Mr. Baldwin Michael : nimina ma traditional leaders too much love of money at the expense of your people.whatever power you have, you use it to make your lives better forgetting your people.gvment in power abuse you for their political gain and you can’t see because of money.

.
2. Honourable Simwinji Simwinji said: Prince Mwananyanda, is not the only one from the BRE. I also come from the Barotse Royal Establishment, but i don’t support the failed project in the name of Bill 10. Where was Mwananyanda in 2006 when i was going round western province to mobilize PF and recruit more people to join the party, which he loves today because of “silver and gold”. The best thing Mwananyanda could have done is to appeal to the PF govt to release Afumba Mombotwa, to construct the King Lewanika University and Mongu Stadium respectively. We still have memories and controversial of the BA 64 was signed by the Litunga on behalf of the people of Barotseland. Iam sorry! this time around we can’t fall in the same hole! If you have been given money, just go and buy yourself shoes and a pair of jeans.

3. When Mr Malamo Gift Siluka tired to defend Mwananyanda is not coming from BRE or a member of BRE but a member of the royal family. notice the difference

Mr Simwinji told off Malamo Gift Siluka that it does not matter whether he comes from the BRE or the royal family. The difference is only known by you! If i can tell you that my grandfather’s mother Princess Nalukui Wamungo is the youngest sister to King (Litunga) Lubosi Litia Lewanika. And my late grandfather Akatama Lubinda was “Ambanwa” (Ngmbela or Prime Minister) at Mwandi Royal Village under the reign of the late Princess Nakatindi. I want to remind you that my mother’s granny and King Lewanika are born from Litunga Litia Mulambwa, and she was the last born in King Lewanika’s family. That chap Mwananyanda comes from the late Litunga Yeta son of King Lewanika, and Yeta was a nephew to Princess Nalukui Wamungo who begats my mother’s father Lubinda Akatama. So what if i hear that he comes from the “royal family”?

.
4. Morgan S Mutanuka said: Just eat and keep quiet ,you are just showing that you dine with corrupt people. First the father of corruption was saying people driven constitution ;today it is animal driven?!?

.
5. Lubinda Nasilele: So in whose interest is the so called prince saying that? I call that cultural hegemony.

.
6. Mulonji Ishimeli: In which capacity and what is he by the way? Let him concentrated on princehood and lay his hands off this very important thing. Its above him period.

WE CAN’T LET LUNGU GO…he can do even better given another chance – GBM

I WAS underutilised in the UPND and I am sure that they are now regretting, says Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba.

Mwamba, the PF deputy party mobilisation chairperson, claims President Edgar Lungu has done extremely well “so let’s refrain from positioning ourselves to take over from him – time for that will come.”

“It is not in the best interest of the country to let go of his leadership. He has done a lot and can do even far much better if given another chance,” he said.

In an interview, Bwalya popularly known as GBM said he fears nobody as he has support in all provinces.

“When I was in the UPND they were afraid of my presence and so they underutilised me and I am sure that by now they are regretting. Look at what I did on the Copperbelt, Northern and Luapula provinces. There is no province where I don’t have support including Southern Province,” he said. “So arising from what I did, I don’t think that it will be easy for them to get the votes that they got in 2016 come 2021. Mobilisation is what I know do best. I don’t fear anyone, I approach them with humility and try to talk to them about the goodness of being PF.”

Bwalya said even opposition leaders knew that President Lungu had performed very well as Head of State.

“To all PF members, let’s work together, let’s unite. Let’s refrain from positioning ourselves to take over from President Edgar Lungu. It’s too early, time for that will come but for now let’s make sure that the current leadership of President Lungu continues,” he urged. “He has done extremely well. He has brought a lot of developments that no one can ignore. Let’s not disturb his leadership, let’s support him.”

He boasted that he knew and does better in the area of party mobilisation.

Bwalya said he was content with what he was doing in party mobilisation.
“I am not looking for a ministerial position, all I am interested in is that we remain united and strong. Speak one message and ensure that come 2021 President Edgar Lungu can again retain the presidency, because it is not in the best interest of the country to let go of his leadership. He has done a lot and can do even far much better if given another chance,” said Mwamba.

Charles Musonda – The Midfield Genius

0

By Ponga Liwewe

In 1985, Mufulira Wanderers coach Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndlovu noticed a shy, quiet boy who, when he stepped onto the pitch, immediately changed his demeanour and played with poise and balance beyond his years. He had the ability to place the ball where he wanted and to find players with passes no one else seemed to see or would even consider executing. He threw him into the deep end without hesitation and thus began the career of Charles Musonda, undoubtedly Zambia’s most celebrated central midfielder ever.

At the age of fifteen Musonda was starting in the Mufulira. Wanderers line up and dominating players twice his age. He became part of a midfield that included the effervescent Frederick Kashimoto and together, they dominated the midfield against countless opponents in the domestic league. The fluid, passing game favoured by Zoom Ndlovu had, in Musonda, a player whose vision and creativity was unmatched.

The following season, 1986, at sixteen, such was his domination in the midfield that he was called up to the Zambia national team at the Africa Cup of Nations and started in the first team line up against Cameroon. In a fascinating end-to-end contest, with Cameroon seeking vengeance for their world cup elimination at Zambia’s hand a year earlier the best match of the tournament as played out.

The young Zambian side matched their opponents in the battle of wits, with the young Musonda orchestrating Zambian attacks through his intricate ball distribution. Cameroon sensing the tide turning against them, cynically sought to neutralise Musonda. Their chance came when in a fifty-fifty race for possession, Rger Milla, getting to the ball first, blasted it straight into Musonda’s midriff, seriously injuring the precocious teenager. He was out for the rest of the tournament and his absence proved to be detrimental to Zambia’s prospects of making the semi-final. Zambia bowed out of the tournament and went home early but lessons had been learned by the young, promising team who were making their debut in the tournament.

At the beginning of the 1986 European season, Musonda was signed by the Belgian side Cercle Brugge where he joined his former Mufulira Wanderers team mate, Kalusha Bwalya. Musonda was spotted when Brugge made a tour of Zambia, playing three friendly matches in Kitwe, Mufulira and Lusaka, in which Musonda’s star quality shone through. Together they took the Belgian side to unprecedented heights and this period also saw the moves of Stone Nyirenda and Lucky Msiska into Belgian football. But for a failed medical, Wisdom Chansa would have joined them too. Such was the allure of Zambian players to Belgian clubs during this era.

With Zambia thrown out of the qualifying series for the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations for withdrawing from hosting the tournament, the focus shifted to the qualifying matches for the Olympic Games in Seoul. Zambia faced an experienced Ghanaian side in Lusaka and it was in this match that Musonda showed that, even at the youthful age of eighteen, he had become a complete player. He ran the show in midfield, engineering Zambia’s attacks from deep. The Zambian attack of Kalusha Bwalya and Wisdom Chansa thrived on the constant supply and took the Ghanaian defence apart. The Ghanaian team, including Tony Yeboah, current coach Kwesi Appiah, and the explosive Opoku Nti had no answer.

Goals from Kalusha Bwalya and Wisdom Chansa separated the two teams as Zambia went on to win 2-0. The second, supplied by Musonda, stood out for its sheer quality. Taking the ball in the air, Musonda ran through the Ghanaian midfield at full flight keeping it in the air with an unbelievable array of head, chest and knee controls before laying off to an unmarked Chansa to score. It was this cushion that saw Zambia qualify despite a 1-0 loss in the second leg.

That same year Musonda was transferred from Cercle Brugge to the leading Belgian side, Anderlect, and it was here that their celebrated coach George Leekens celebrated his acquisition declaring: ‘he is the player we have been looking for. Someone who can create chances for others to score.’ At Anderlecht Musonda played in an even deeper role, sitting in front of the back four and only foraging into the opposing box when the build-up play allowed. It was at this stage of his career that he began to suffer injury problems. Medical staff found that one leg was slightly shorter than the other, and he played with a specially-adapted pair of boots.

In Seoul at the Olympic Games, Musonda flourished and was very prominent in the 4-0 destruction of Italy. He left the tournament with his reputation further enhanced. In the 1990, Anderlecht reached the final of the European Cup Winners Cup final and Musonda played a pivotal role in the team’s journey to the last two. Though they lost 2-0 to Sampdoria, Musonda caught the eye of Juventus and was courted. His injury problems flared up and scuppered the move. He was at the top of his football powers now, and Zambian football reaped full benefits of his talents, challenging for a place at the 1990 World Cup but poor away for thwarted the team’s qualification hopes.

Musonda missed the flight to Gabon that killed the entire national team, staff and aircrew due to injury but was present, having recovered when Zambia, fifteen minutes away from World Cup qualification, lost 1-0 to Morocco.

Thereafter injuries effectively stalled his career for close to three years. When he came back to play for Zambia in 1997 against South Africa in a world cup qualification match he was controversially left out of the team and Zambia went in to draw 0-0 at home. Musonda would never again wear a national team shirt and it was an ignominious end to his international career. He had always given his best when injury allowed him the opportunity to play.

He had spells in the USA before retiring and later returning to Anderlecht in a technical position. His three sons, all football players like him, currently play with varying degrees of success. Musonda recently had a spell as assistant coach with Congolese side TP Mazembe. He stands out as the greatest midfield player in Zambian football history and deservedly holds the status of Hero of Zambian football.

Racism against ethnic minorities in the US is a chronic disease of American society – China reacts to protests in US

China on Monday June 1, reacted to the protests and unrest in the United States which ensued after the death of George Floyd in police custody.

China’s foreign ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian who spoke to newsmen said the protest which is hinged on racism and police violence has exposed Washington’s ”double standards” in supporting Hong Kong’s protesters.

The US has been vocal in support of the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong, particularly since Beijing’s declaration of imposing national security laws on the semi-autonomous region.

Zhao said;

“Black people’s lives are also lives. Their human rights must also be guaranteed.

“Racism against ethnic minorities in the US is a chronic disease of American society.

“The current situation reflects once more the severity of the problems of racism and police violence in the US.”

The foreign ministry spokesperson also pointed out that the US government had described Hong Kong independence and black violence elements as heroes and activists, while calling people who protest against racism ‘rioters’.

Zhao added;

“Why does the US lionize the so-called Hong Kong independence and black violence elements as heroes and activists, while calling people who protest against racism ‘rioters’?”

He also threatened “counter-attacks” on the US for continued retaliatory measures over China’s increased control over Hong Kong, which include reversing Hong Kong’s special customs status.

Other Chinese officials and state media have also seized on news of the protests sweeping the US, which they compared to the widespread unrest to the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong.

On Sunday China’s foreign ministry spokeswoman, Hua Chunying posted “I can’t breathe” (Floyd’s last words) on Twitter, with a screenshot of her American counterpart criticising China’s crackdown on Hong Kong.

Zhao also retweeted numerous comments and reports on the US protests, including a tweet from Russia’s deputy representative to the UN who accused the US of double standards.

Dmitry Polyanskiy had tweeted;

“Why US denies China’s right to restore peace and order in HK while brutally dispersing crowds at home?”

Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of nationalist tabloid Global Times also lashed out at US Speaker Nancy Pelosi over her comment about the protest in Hong Kong.

Hu wrote;

“US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi once called the violent protests in Hong Kong ‘a beautiful sight to behold.’… US politicians now can enjoy this sight from their own windows.”

The editor also promoted a conspiracy theory of “Hong Kong protesters being behind the American demonstrations”. He added;

I highly suspect that Hong Kong rioters have infiltrated American states. Attacking police stations, smashing shops, blocking roads, breaking public facilities, these are all routine in their protests. Vicious HK rioters obviously are mastermind of violent protests across the US

Hu had goaded President Donald Trump in series of tweets and editorials over the weekend. He asked the US President not to hide behind secret service.

Hu wrote;

“Mr President, don’t go hide behind the secret service. Go to talk to the demonstrators seriously. Negotiate with them, just like you urged Beijing to talk to Hong Kong rioters.

“The Chinese government has not shown any support for the riots in the US. I hope that Americans notice Beijing’s restraint.”

Bishop Simon Chihana questions ZRA move to audit of churches

LUSAKA clergyman Bishop Simon Chihana says Zambia Revenue Authority’s declaration that it will be auditing churches in Zambia cannot go without comment.

Bishop Chihana, the International Fellowship for Christian Churches (IFCC) president, noted that the declaration had come at such a time when poverty was high in the nation and with a very high level of unemployment.

“The current position taken by the Zambia Revenue Authority, ZRA, cannot go without comment and taking serious analysis because it borders on a body that all of us as Zambians have great attachment to and this is the Church. The Zambia Revenue Authority has declared that they shall be auditing the churches in Zambia for whatever reasons, and it has come at such a time that poverty is high in the nation and with a very high level of unemployment among our people,” Bishop Chihana said.

He said wisdom is paramount in running national issues and consideration for the plight of the poor is a mark of great leadership.

The clergyman noted that the Church in Zambia had been a great partner in alleviation of poverty of all the governments that have ruled the country.

“The Church has from time immemorial helped governments in bringing quality education to every one of us, quality medical care through mission hospitals and clinics. The Church is not a social club, but an organism through which God works to minister to the needs of humanity both spiritually, physically and socially,” he said. “The Church is the salt to us all, through the preaching and teaching of the Word of God society is sustained in many ways, we are encouraged to love each other, forgive one another, help one another in time of need. The Church is always there to play as the mediator in times of conflict, to broker peace and unity.”

Bishop Chihana reminded ZRA that a lot of the social ills in society cannot be handled by the government of the day alone.

“But the Church is working day and night doing the job of reconciling families, helping the rejected, run away husbands and wives to resolve, run away children and parents to come together,” he said.

He said there were so many social ills out there that the Church is ever attending to such as drug abuse, drunkards, illicit sex and other crimes.

Bishop Chihana said it was unwise to punish a horse “that you ride on when all it requires is a little support from the rider to have food and to wash when it is dirt and a little water when it is thirsty”.

He added that all the services that the Church offered to humanity were free and supported by the generosity of the congregation and well-wishers.

“With all sanity of the mind, how do you as government under Zambia Revenue Authority audit a body that totally depends on free will offerings from the generous people. The next government must work in partnership with the Church and support them in all their efforts in making sure that they give our children quality education and provide quality health care to our people in the communities, strengthen their evangelistic thrust in the communities,” Bishop Chihana said.

He however, admitted that there were crooked church leaders.

“Thus it is the work of the investigators and the police to arrest such culprits that have taken advantage of the holy sacred work and messed it up with their dirty hands emanating from their evil hearts,” he said.
Bishop Chihana advised that such delinquency minded people must also be removed from the pulpit work.

The prosecution, persecution of John Sangwa, SC is circumstantial evidence proving allegations against Judiciary

There is circumstantial evidence that the prosecution and persecution of John Sangwa by the Judiciary proves the truth of the allegations marshaled against the Judiciary. That is, the very behaviour of the Judiciary towards John Sangwa is itself circumstantial evidence of the truth of the contents of the allegations themselves.

What if a PhD student in law proposed to do a Doctoral Dissertation or Thesis, depending on what this document is called in that particular jurisdiction, on the hypothesis that the way the Judiciary in Zambia has prosecuted and persecuted John Sangwa is itself circumstantial evidence that the judiciary is corrupt, incompetent, not independent, not autonomous and is dancing to the tune of the political autocracy? Would this student succeed in his enterprise supervised by an independent-minded academic and a supervisory committee that is defensive in the highest tradition, of academic freedom, development of an inquiring mind buttressed by constitutional rights enshrined in an existing Constitution and whose final product would be peer reviewed by an experienced and knowledgeable academy? Let’s speculate how the student would prosecute this task.

The student would first be intrigued by how an entire Judiciary of a country could use a nuclear weapon of silencing a lawyer, a State Counsel, by barring him from appearing before any court of law in the country without any initial complaint, investigation and charges and conviction by the governing body of the legal profession. The student would be mindful that the first principle of justice is the right to be heard; that is the principle of natural justice. The student would recall a powerful case from the Ontario Court of Appeal called “Khan” in which the Court stated that when it comes to judging cases involving someone’s livelihood, like lawyers etc, a heightened sense of justice need to animate the decision-maker. The decision maker would go beyond the call of ordinary justice to higher consciousness of Justice because of what is at stake. Here in the case of John Sangwa, a nuclear weapon of the death sentence for a lawyer has been detonated at the front end.
The student would ask himself or herself: where on earth and in the annals of disciplinary cases has such a case ever happened? The student will find nowhere in documented or known legal history. The student will ask himself, has the judiciary of any country ever been criticised, justly or unjustly and behaved the same way? The student will find that the judiciary has been criticised more severely in many countries but these judiciaries have never behaved in the same way of igniting a nuclear devise before a complaint, investigation, and charges and conviction by the governing body of the legal profession, let alone the judiciary. The student will find that the judiciary had been more criticized by the judiciary itself, especially by the apex courts criticizing lower court judges and decisions in the most unfluttering terms than any criticisms that might have emanated from anywhere else. He would quote from the decisions of the Supreme Court of the United States and Canada as examples for critical judicial commentaries on the judiciary themselves, without any dent to the image of the judiciary. He would find that any judiciary which is more concerned about the protection of its image than the delivery of justice is a judiciary that is compromised. It is a dangerous judiciary.

The student will find the case of lawyer Harry Kopyto of Canada who was charged with contempt of court for scandalising the court and convicted in Superior Court. The Ontario Court of Appeal set aside the conviction, pointing out that courts are not wilting flowers, but solid institutional structures staffed by gallant judges who would survive any critical Armageddon. And it really doesn’t matter what kind of criticisms are levelled against the judiciary.
The student will utilise international human rights and international law of refugees to find cases that have pronounced that prosecution can morph into persecution and conclude that the prosecution of John Sangwa has devolved into persecution. Persecution connotes an injustice ab initio.

Sangwa simply questioned the qualifications of the judges in question based on constitutional criteria and wrote to the President not to appoint these judges. They were appointed nonetheless and Sangwa became the most frequent lawyer to the Constitutional Court, indicating he accepted the outcome of these appointments. Criticizing the decisions of the judiciary is part and parcel of the constitutional order in a country under the Rule of Law. The judiciary is fair game to criticize, including the decisions emanating therefrom in a reasonable stance. The judiciary, if unaccountable, results in wrongful convictions, unreasoned and unreasonable decisions, corruption, incompetence and so on. This is no secret. Former Chief Justice Lombe Cibesakunda revealed that there is corruption in the judiciary. She is quoted as so stating severally. Dr R. Majula in his book, The Impact of Corruption on Public Administration (2014 rev.) has a chapter on Judicial Corruption in Zambia, quoting Chief Justice Chibesakunda.

However, the Majula chapter or the statements by the former Chief Justice have no documented evidence of actual corruption. So our student would have a hard time trying to prove the existence of corruption in Zambia. In many other countries, evidence is easy to come by. In Zambia it is mainly or merely anecdotal. It needs to be weaved into a systematic study. Our student would be the first to broach the subject theoretically and systematically. Others can build on the architecture that our student will have laid down theoretically.

Our student will explore various theories about where to begin. Should he begin with Max Gluckman’s theory of “situational analysis” framework of investigation? Gluckman is the author of “Barotse Jurisprudence” where he developed the theory or thesis that a single event can illuminate the dynamics of an entire phenomenon. The treatment of John Sangwa can illuminate the nooks and crevices of the Zambian judiciary. The Americans call it, “teachable moment” where a single event can be blown to represent wide anecdotal phenomenon.

The student could also start with previously examined phenomenon of sex and race discrimination where the conservative judiciary wanted 100 per cent full proof evidence that an act against a woman or black person was motivated by gender or race animus. There is usually no direct evidence but only circumstantial evidence. The effects on women or blacks could be evidence of sex or race discrimination because one couldn’t find direct evidence, only effects of discrimination could be found. Judges like the current Supreme Court of the US Justice’s Ruth Badder Ginsburg started pummeling on effects “evidence” to convince the Supreme Court in the 1970s to abandon “direct” evidence of discrimination paradigm. Do we have Ruth Ginsburgs in our courts or the caliber of the Constitutional Court of South Africa judges on our courts? We do. Do they make the same decisions? No.

The very concept of circumstantial evidence which was created centuries ago speaks to this very issue. When you have no direct evidence, circumstantial evidence when available, could do the job, sometimes even a better job than direct evidence. A person can see a perpetrator of a crime directly, but be mistaken as to identity. Circumstantial evidence is when there is no other alternative than to infer that on the basis of the evidence available, only that outcome, guilty or acquittal is possible.

In the case of R. V. Brown, the Ontario Court of Appeal stated when dealing with Racial Profiling, which is analogous to proving any allegations against the judiciary, that, “a racial profiling claim could rarely be proven by direct evidence. This would involve an admission by a police officer (or customs officer or judge if rephrased) that he or she was influenced by racial (or incompetence or corrupt influences or whatever in the case of the judiciary) stereotypes in the exercise of his or her discretion to stop a motorist.

Accordingly, if racial profiling is to be proven, it must be done by inference drawn from circumstantial evidence”. The circumstantial evidence of how Sangwa was treated can be used as evidence proving whatever allegations are contained therein, the student could submit. What explanations could there be?

The student would further quote a great deal of case law showing that it is very difficult to prove a case against a judge in the majority of cases. He would deploy a device that is used to prove reasonable apprehension of bias. Here a person need not prove that there was actual bias as this sometimes is difficult to prove. The person just needs to show reasonable apprehension of bias. It goes the same for the concept of justice. Justice must not only be done, it must also be seen to be done. Process and procedure are as important as substance in the calculus of justice and dealing with the judiciary.

The proof of bias or justice is not for everybody to detect. It is for that legal construction of “reasonable” person, “a reasonable and right minded person, applying themselves to the question and obtaining thereon the required information… And having thought the matter through…conclude to quote a famous case on this point.

The judiciary has never answered Sangwa’s allegations but instead has detonated a nuclear weapon in his direction, without a charge or hearing at first instance. The judiciary is the accuser, prosecutor, and judge in its own cause as it were, at the outset of the case. Sangwa stands already convicted and as a result is prohibited from appearing in court. He is already sentenced, the student could find.

From all this, the student could finish the Thesis and state that the very treatment accorded to Sangwa in this unprecedented case represents circumstantial evidence proving the allegations deployed against the judiciary as no reasonable person, apprised of the issues and the treatment and having thought the matter through, could infer otherwise.

The Dissertation would be a path-breaking study using everyday legal concepts. The student will pass with flying colours. I will apply to be on his Dissertation committee.

THE BRAIN BEHIND COPPERBELT ENERGY CORPORATION (CEC) – The $30-Million-Handshake

Hanson Sindowe is the last person you would expect to be one of Zambia’s richest; he grew up the son of a policeman in a family of farmers in the village of Kalomo, 120 kilometers north of Livingstone. It’s a place thousands of kilometers from where he made his fortune on power distribution along Zambia’s copper belt, the lifeblood of the country.

Sindowe is the engineer, who wanted to be a pilot, but ended up buying Zambia’s copper belt power distribution company, Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC,) in 2006 for $120 million.

“I just visualized flying around. In those days people were going to the moon. When I came into electrical engineering, I said I can’t just be an employee, a worker. I looked at opportunities to see what I can do to really improve the quality of life of myself and my fellow Zambians,” says the 66-year-old man in his office in Lusaka.

Most Zambians couldn’t point out Sindowe in the streets, yet his story is known from Livingstone to Solwezi. This journey began at a rural school when he was given a bursary to study engineering at the University of Zambia. At the time, Sindowe was working as an engineer in the copper belt, where the industry of Zambia had been on a rollercoaster ride thanks to nationalization, cheap Russian copper and poor economic development. On top of this the copper belt needed energy to dig up the largest known reserves of copper in Africa, 6% of the world’s supply, according to the World Bank.

“Energy is a huge requirement for any county in the world. They can’t do without it. You can’t build factories and manufacture goods without power,” says Sindowe.

Sindowe knew the Zambian energy business. He’s worked as the General Manager of the Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM) Power Division and for Zambia Railways Limited. In 1997, CEC was formed out of the privatization of ZCCM. At the time, Sindowe signed up as a Director of Business Development.

“In 2004, there was talk that the company [ZCCM] would sell. I thought I’d been with the company for very long. I knew it very well. I wrote a letter to the board asking if I could be considered to buy the company. They said ‘why not, so long as you can pay,’” says Sindowe.

The letter changed his life. It took two years for Sindowe to raise the $120 million. He found a number of Zambian investors and then headed overseas. In London, sitting in a conference room with 32 banks, Sindowe made a final presentation for funds. Two banks were interested: the Dutch development bank FMO, who brought 20%, and the African Development Bank, which brought another 20%, says Sindowe.

The deal was the foundation that interested entrepreneurs. Remarkably in Sindowe’s case, he spent an hour with FORBES’ 32nd richest man in Africa without even realizing who the entrepreneur was.

It happened when Sindowe installed fiber cables to improve his company’s capacity to monitor its power distribution on the copper belt. It meant there was spare space on the wires to sell off to a telecommunications company.

“I thought these cables can also be used for communication on the copper belt. Believe it or not, at the time, I approached Zamtel [one of Zambia’s largest communications company] to see if they wanted to use them. There was so much capacity. But Zamtel were a little bit too slow in thinking,” says Sindowe.

Someone faster than Zamtel was Nick Rudnick, the CEO of Liquid Telecom, a communications company in Zimbabwe. Rudnick had heard about the spare cables, and wanted to rent. Rudnick flew to Zambia, with his chairman, Strive Masiyiwa, the $600-million founder of Econet Wireless, and subsidiary owner to Liquid Telecom.

“With him was his chairman, I forget his name now. But I think he was one of the richest guys in Africa. We had a long chat in a hotel and said ‘hey we’re in the telecoms business, want to go into business?’… We talked for about an hour then shook hands. Since then, I haven’t spoken to him [Masiyiwa], but I talk to Nick every other week. It was another chance for us to expand.”

Sindowe came out with a handshake worth $30 million. These days, CEC Liquid, the amalgamation of Masiyiwa and Sindowe, is the largest fiber network in Zambia. This year, it plans to expand with a further $16-million investment in fiber technology.

According to Sindowe, CEC’s investments ring well over $350 million. Its next move is to go into renewables. Among its footprint across Sierra Leone, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Nigeria and South Africa is a $210-million, 40 megawatt (MW) hydro power plant in the Kabompo Gorge, in Zambia’s North-Western province.

For a man who has spent most of his life developing Zambia’s energy, the thinking never ends. Built into the cost of the deal, CEC has to help move the village that will be left underwater by the proposed hydro plant, says Sindowe. He also believes he can add a further 10MW of energy by installing solar panels on the dam created by the hydro plant.

“I am talking about floating solar panels, where there is no need to displace communities anymore,” says Sindowe.

The panels would be more efficient than on land, says Sindowe. There is less dust blocking the panels. The water also helps regulate the panel’s temperature, which loses efficiency when overheated.

“If you compare us to Europe, they have made a lot of investments into wind generation. I’ve seen those wind plants come up in the last 30 years. There is so much wind. So here in Africa, there is so much sunlight, so why not use it?”

Inside Sindowe’s offices in the heart of Lusaka, the air conditioner in his boardroom hums gently. He’ll soon be moving into new headquarters run on solar power. Parking lots, roof buildings and open spaces will be littered with solar panels to power the facility.

In the meantime, Sindowe sits in his boardroom wearing a beige farmer’s shirt.

He’s a world away from the farms of his childhood but never far in his mind.

Scared Trump fled to bunker as protests over George Floyd raged outside White House

0

(CNN)As protesters gathered outside the White House Friday night in Washington, DC, President Donald Trump was briefly taken to the underground bunker for a period of time, according to a White House official and a law enforcement source.

The President was there for a little under an hour before being brought upstairs.
A law enforcement source and another source familiar with the matter tell CNN that first lady Melania Trump and their son, Barron, were also taken to the bunker.

The law enforcement source familiar with protocol said that if authorities moved Trump, they would move all protectees, meaning Melania and Barron.

The second source told CNN that “if the condition at the White House is elevated to RED and the President is moved” to the Emergency Operations Center “Melania Trump, Barron Trump and any other first family members would be moved as well.”

Late Sunday night, the White House cautioned staffers who must go to work on Monday to hide their passes until they reach a Secret Service entry point and to hide them as they leave, according to an email which was viewed by CNN.

The email repeated mandates for maximum telework status and said there is still an “elevated security posture” due to the protests.

Trump praised the Secret Service the next day for its handling of the protests outside the White House Friday night in the wake of George Floyd’s death last week in Minneapolis.

The New York Times first reported Trump was taken to the presidential bunker.
On Saturday, only hours after the protests outside the White House had ended, Trump declared himself safe as he lashed out at the city’s Democratic mayor and raised the prospect of his supporters gathering in place that night in what would amount to a counter protest.

In a series of tweets, Trump commended the US Secret Service for protecting him inside his fortified mansion Friday evening, saying he couldn’t have felt “more safe” as protesters gathered outside over Floyd’s death. The President suggested that dogs and weaponry were waiting inside the gates.

Trump claimed DC Mayor Muriel Bowser did not permit the DC police to “get involved,” though Secret Service later said they were on the scene.

Later in the day, speaking at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida after the launch of the NASA/SpaceX rocket, Trump admonished protesters across the country, expressed support for the “majority of police officers” and blamed Antifa and the “radical left” — without any proof — in his most in-depth remarks since Floyd’s death and the ensuing nationwide demonstrations.

“I stand before you as a friend and ally to every American seeking justice and peace. And I stand before you in firm opposition to anyone exploiting this tragedy to loot, rob, attack and menace. Healing, not hatred, justice, not chaos, are the mission at hand,” Trump said.
Trump added that the voice of “law abiding citizens must be heard and heard very loudly.”
“We must defend the rights of every citizen to live without violence, prejudice or fear,” Trump said before supporting “the overwhelming majority of police officers who are incredible in every way and devoted public servants.”

“No one is more upset than fellow law enforcement officers by the small handful who failed to abide by their oath to serve and protect,” Trump added.

In his Saturday morning Twitter messages, Trump did not seek to lower the temperature or console Americans who find themselves facing parallel health and racial crises.

The decision to physically move the President came as protesters confronted Secret Service officers outside the White House for hours on Friday — shouting, throwing water bottles and other objects at the line of officers, and attempting to break through the metal barriers.

At times, the crowd would remove the metal barriers and begin pushing up against the officers and their riot shields. The Secret Service continually replaced the barriers throughout the night as protesters wrestled them away.

Protesters pushed hard enough a few times that officers had to walk away with what appeared to be minor injuries. At one point, the agents responded to aggressive pushing and yelling by using pepper spray on the protesters.

Throughout the night, protesters could be heard chanting their support for Floyd, an unarmed black man who died after being pinned down by a white police officer, and their dislike of Trump. The protest, which began around 10 p.m. ET, Friday night outside the White House, had mostly quieted down by 3:30 a.m. ET, Saturday morning.

The crowd thinned out and Secret Service officers were able to expand their perimeter and barriers around Lafayette Park across from the White House.

Six arrests were made during the protests, the Secret Service confirmed in a statement Saturday afternoon.

The President on Thursday had used the threat of police retaliation and military intervention in Minnesota where protests turned violent and destructive — saying on Twitter that “when the looting starts, the shooting starts.” Trump’s weekend tweets also invoked imagery tied to brutal civil rights-era police tactics.

Now, a serious divide has emerged among the President’s top allies and advisers over how the President should address several nights of protests and riots.

Trump is being urged by some advisers to formally address the nation and call for calm, while others have said he should condemn the rioting and looting more forcefully or risk losing middle-of-the-road voters in November, according to several sources familiar with the deliberations. -CNN

Barack Obama Reacts To The Killing Of George Floyd With A Powerful Statement While President Donald Trump Lashes At The Thugs

0

Barack Obama took to social media on Friday, where he posted a heartfelt and powerful statement about the horrific death of George Floyd.

Floyd died in Minneapolis moments after Officer Derek Chauvin pinned his knee to his neck with the help of several other cops.

The former president shared a few personal letters that he has received throughout the week about the pain that African Americans are feeling as they watch one of their own struggle for almost 9 minutes, beg for his life, and plead for his deceased mother to save him before dying while in custody.

Obama said this about racism in this country: “We have to remember that for millions of Americans, being treated differently on account of race is tragically, painfully, maddeningly ‘normal.’”

Obama also spoke about Ahmaud Arbery, a black man jogging who was killed in Georgia by two white vigilantes and the incident in Central Park in which a white woman, who was walking her dog, threatened to call the police on Christian Cooper, a highly-educated black man birding in the park.

He went on to say: “It will fall mainly on the officials of Minnesota to ensure that the circumstances surrounding George Floyd’s death are investigated thoroughly and that justice is ultimately done. But it falls on all of us, regardless of our race or station – including the majority of men and women in law enforcement who take pride in doing their tough job the right way, every day – to work together to create a ‘new normal’ in which the legacy of bigotry and unequal treatment no longer infects our institutions and our hearts.”

One person had this reaction to Obama’s statement: “That’s how a real leader addresses problems. Donny. Take notes.
He makes everything better. Thank you, Obama. Our Forever President.”

Another voter revealed: “Wish we could put him back in office. I love how kind-hearted he is, unlike so many other people.”

This follower shared: “Dear other countries,
This is OUR PRESIDENT. We don’t know who that Reptilian is that’s on y’all’s tv and twitter acting a fool.
Sincerely.”

There have been many protests since the incident, and President Donald Trump had this to say on the matter: “I can’t stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis. A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the City under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right…..”

He added: “..These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. I just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty, and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!”

Protesters have taken to major US cities to demand change.

Fire Dr Chilufya or leave him alone, don’t be a coward

By Diggers Editor

THE arrest, prosecution and subsequent acquittal of Cabinet Minister Ronald Chitotela last year without him vacating office said everything that needed to be said about President Edgar Lungu’s weakness on governance. While the whole country was expecting him to decisively suspend the minister to pave way for genuine investigations into corruption allegations, Mr Lungu said he was not going to fire and lose friends over allegations. And indeed, the outcome of the Minister’s trial was an inevitable acquittal. All the remaining charges that the Anti Corruption Commission had against Mr Chitotela were discarded.

With that stance, the Head of State exposed himself in a manner that no leader should allow to be exposed. Look now. Since the President failed to act on Honourable Chitotela, his hands are now tied on Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya. He cannot fire or suspend his own minister because he has set a precedent that whoever is accused of corruption must first be found guilty by the courts of law before stepping aside. This kind of governance is extremely dangerous.

President Lungu is also showing us that he is a very careless Head of State. He is living very dangerously with his ministers. This approach he has taken where he hides behind a finger as he sends attack dogs on his ministers and former advisors will surely boomerang and bite him where it pains the most. When law enforcers with all the evidence in their hands, fail to prosecute and secure convictions for crimes committed by government officials, it means only one of two things. It’s either they have come across information that implicates the Head of State or the accused persons have threatened to expose the appointing authority.

That is what happens when a leader involves himself or herself in shady dealings with subordinates. Instead of teaching them good governance, you scheme with them on how to steal without leaving traces; how to evade the law and where to hide proceeds of crime. What do you think will happen to you when one of these people you steal with gets cornered? They will use you as their life insurance. In the end, you become a weak leader, one who cannot exercise your authority fully.

There are decent ways in which a sober President is going to deal with his ministers. Those are his own Cabinet ministers, he appointed them at his own will and pleasure. Why is he treating them like shameless morons or cadres from the streets? By subjecting his ministers to such humiliation, he is undermining his own authority. You can’t have ministers getting arrested and being prosecuted while occupying office and you watch as President.

We are not in any way saying Dr Chitalu Chilufya is a clean man. In fact, we have our own dossiers of his dealings, and we hold the view that he has not been a very honest public servant. Therefors, there is nothing wrong with Dr Chilufya or indeed any other minister being investigated by the law enforcement agencies, but there are procedures and guidelines on what a President is supposed to do when one of his appointees is found to be at loggerheads with the law.

The manner in which Dr Chilufya is being treated by the President is very unprofessional. It says a lot about the leadership vacuum that we have in this country. How can a leader who fails to act decisively on erring appointees claim to be in control of government? A President needs to inspire his leadership and his citizens. President Lungu has sunk so low in the fight against corruption that we wonder if there are still any citizens who take him seriously when he condemns the vice.

We know that there is a whole background of political skirmishes behind the investigation and imminent arrest of Dr Chilufya, but President Lungu must stop taking Zambians for fools. If he has lost trust and confidence in his Minister of Health, let him revoke his appointment. If he still has unfinished business with him, let him leave the man alone, because we all know this has got nothing to do with corruption. All the crimes that Dr Chilufya is accused of committing were not done yesterday, where was the President and his ACC? Why did they have to wait until this particular moment?

This is the reason why good citizens shy away from politics because, indeed it is a dirty game. And Dr Chilufya himself must learn that there is no honour among crooks. He has seen how his own President who has been promising him milk and honey all along has suddenly turned against him. All the things they did together have been ignored. If he has any integrity left in him, this is time for him to step down. Yes, they will follow you until they finish you politically, but that is exactly what you sign up for when you join politics and accept appointments from leaders who stand for nothing.

Ex-PF official narrates assault ordeal by ruling party members

0

FORMER PF information publicity secretary for Justine Kabwe Ward 21 in Mandevu Constituency has narrated how he was allegedly pepper-sprayed and whipped with a hosepipe by ruling party members during intra-party elections at Olympic Africa Academy.

Lemmy Bwalya of Marapodi Township was testifying in a matter where Cliff Bwalya, a 45-year-old district youth chairperson of Chaisa Compound; John Kamweo, 22-year-old Ward Youth Chairperson in Mandevu Constituency and Martin Katazo, 33 of Mandevu Compound are charged with three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

In count one, it alleged that on March 15, 2020, the three, whilst acting together with others unknown, assaulted Lemmy and occasioned him actual bodily harm.

In count two, it alleged that Bwalya and Kamweo on the same date, assaulted Thomas Phiri and occasioned him actual bodily harm.

In the last count, it is alleged that Bwalya assaulted Gladys Mwila and occasioned her actual bodily harm.

When the matter came up for trial before Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate Lameck Mwale, Lemmy told the court that on March 15, this year, he was in Rapheal Chota ward in Chipata township where they were supposed to have intra-party ward elections.

He added that Mandevu PF member of parliament Jean Kapata was also present, together with the elections committee.

Lemmy testified that while he was inside, his supporters who were supposed to vote for him were stopped from entering by two of the accused persons.

He said when he went outside to clear his supporters, John started punching him in the chest while Martin started whipping him with a hosepipe.

“People who came to vote for me were not given access to the venue after being stopped by John and Martin. I went out to clear those people who were stopped from coming in. But when I was trying to let them in, John started punching me in the chest and Martin came with a hosepipe,” Lemmy told the court.

He told the court that he was later led into the elections hall where Kapata and the elections committee members started discussing whether the polls should proceed or not.

Lemmy said he left the hall and went to stand on a veranda but while there, Bwalya removed pepper spray from his pocket and sprayed him in the face.

He said he went to Marapodi police where he was given a medical form.

Lemmy added that from there, he went to Marapodi Clinic where his eyes were checked and he was given medicine.

Another witness, Phiri, also narrated to the court how was he also allegedly beaten by Bwalya and Kamweo on the material day.

He told the court that he sustained a swollen forehead and bruises on his hand.

Phiri said he was not the only one who was beaten on that day.

The matter comes up on July 3, 2020, for continued trial.

CEC CUTS POWER SUPPLY TO KONKOLA COPPER MINES

LUSAKA – 29 May, 2020 – – – The Copperbelt Energy Corporation Plc (CEC) will, effective 1 June 2020, discontinue the supply of power to Konkola Copper Mines Plc (KCM) as the power supply agreement (PSA) between CEC and KCM came to an end on 31 March 2020 but was extended through mutual agreement of the parties, up to 31 May 2020.

Negotiations for its further extension have broken down, despite CEC’s best efforts in good faith towards securing a new contract and engaging in comprehensive and cooperative negotiations.

In trying to agree the new contract with KCM, CEC sought to resolve KCM’s outstanding debt of USD132 million as well as obtain a firm commitment from KCM regarding the timely payment of electricity charges going forward.

These costs continue to increase – it is CEC’s expectation that KCM’s debt to CEC will grow to at least USD144 million as at 31 May 2020.

Without a renewed contract in place, CEC cannot continue supplying power to KCM as doing so would jeopardise the Company’s financial position and endanger its efforts to provide essential power supply to its other customers.

CEC has informed KCM that its supply will be discontinued, after making clear throughout the negotiations that this would be the only option available should they fail to engage constructively in the negotiations and in resolving their substantial debt.

Due care has been taken to make certain that the process of discontinuing supply ensures the safety of personnel and equipment and preserves the integrity of the mine. While CEC is not obligated to supply power to KCM after the contract expires, CEC will continue, on a commercial basis, to supply the minimum power required for purposes of safeguarding personnel and the mine’s assets.

A spokesperson for CEC said:
“It is unfortunate that it has come to this. Over the past several months, we have made clear to KCM the consequences of their non-payment and their unwillingness to engage in negotiations in good faith. Sadly, they have chosen not to honour our previous agreement or pay the considerable sum that is owed. In order to protect our staff, our customers and all our shareholders, we have had no choice but to discontinue the supply of power. All efforts will be made to ensure that this is done in a way that protects the safety of both personnel and equipment.”

KCM remains an important customer to CEC given that it is directly connected to and fed from the CEC power network at multiple points.

This means that even if KCM signs a PSA with another provider, KCM will still require transmission and connection services from CEC. Like any other customer, KCM cannot exist on the CEC network without a form of connection services agreement with the Company.

As a customer-centred business, CEC remains open to continuing to work with KCM and other parties that may be involved to negotiate and enter into the required transmission and connection agreements, should the need arise.

CEC will continue to meet its core mandate of providing all such transmission and connection services at the best quality possible.

Open Letter To Hakainde Hichilema, President Of UPND

SOMEONE TO DELIVER THIS LETTER TO HH.

OPEN LETTER TO HAKAINDE HICHILEMA, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED PARTY FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (UPND)

Dear Sir,

RE: YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT

Reference is given to the above stated subject matter.

I am a young Zambian youth, a graduate from the University of Zambia (UNZA). I have decided to write to you on the subject matter as reflected above. I have heard your manifesto and how you intend to provide descent jobs to the youths of Zambia. As you maybe aware, the majority of us youths are unemployed. Statistics indicate that more than 50℅ of the youth population in Zambia is unemployed and most of the youths depend on their vulnerable parents to survive.

The current regime which was voted on the premise that it will absorb youth unemployment among many other promises has failed to deliver what they promised. The majority of us youths are living in abject poverty despite the fact that we have the right education qualifications. In Zambia today, for a youth to get a descent job it has become a game of connection. You need to be connected to one or two individuals in the corridors of power for you to be given a job.

On the other hand, the private sector, has put up tough qualifications especially on the experience part for a graduate to get a job. Most of the jobs that we see around they need 2-7 years experience making it difficult for a young person to get employed.

As a result of this, a good number of our youths end up being frustrated and resort to doing all sorts of things in order to survive. The government seems to have no plan on how to combat this problem.

For those of us who have entrepreneurial skills we do not have the necessary capital to start our own ventures. Am sure you do understand that access to finance especially for small business holders or perhaps startups is a tall order in our nation. I understand that government has a sink fund for youths entrepreneurs but to access this money you need to be connected to power and for some of us we have no relatives in power making it difficult.

As such, I have written this letter to you on behalf of so many youths so that you can explain in clear terms on how you will provide the much needed jobs as well as jump start our businesses when ushered into power. I understand, the majority of us youths we are ready to support anyone including you as long as you tackle this salient issue of unemployment which has rendered us useless in society. You need to tell us the duration in which those jobs will be provided and how you will curb the high levels of nepotism in public offices especially at Public Service Management Division (PSMD). We do not want another fake promise just like the way the Patriotic Front (PF) government did.

We want to assure you that once we evaluate your stance on this matter and if at all it will be feasible enough to address our plight, we are willing to go flat out and campaign for you. We are tired of fake promises and fake politicians who do not even show any concern. All they care about are foreigners who have a high bribing power.

Yous sincerely

UPND, NDC youths call for arrest of PF officials illegally mining manganese in Mkushi district without mining licences

UPND and National Democratic Congress youths in Central Province have called for the arrest of PF officials that were illegally mining manganese in the region.

On Friday, mines and mineral resources minister Richard Musukwa visited some manganese mining companies in Central Province and was shocked to learn that two PF officials were extracting manganese in Mkushi district without mining licences.

Musukwa, who was in the company of Central Province minister Sydney Mushanga, took to task Zambia police officers in the area for failing to arrest the PF officials for illegally mining manganese despite the fact Mkushi district commissioner Luka Mwamba and the Mines Safety Department making formal complaints to the law enforcers in the region.

Musukwa, who is also PF mobilisation chairman and Chililabombwe member of parliament, then called on the Zambia police to ensure that the named PF officials that were engaging in illegal mining of manganese were arrested.

Commenting on the development, UPND Kapiri Mposhi district youth chairman Sameman Hakalumbwe charged the tendency by PF cadres to engage in illegal mining activities was depriving the nation the much needed revenue.

He pointed out that it was unfortunate that a few individuals had opted to engage in illegal mining activities while majority citizens were not benefiting from the mineral wealth.
“These illegal mining activities are worrying because people are just depleting natural resources without paying taxes to the government. Worse still, our traditional leaders are not consulted when embarking on these mining activities. It is unfortunate that PF cadres, who are not the majority in this country, are engaging in illegal mining of manganese while the majority citizenry are not benefiting from our natural resources,” Hakalumbwe said. “Our appeal is that let the Zambia Police officers heed the minister’s timely call and arrest all those PF officials that are engaging in illegal mining in Central Province. There should be no sacred cows.”

Hakalumbwe further charged that it was surprising to note that the PF leadership in Central Province had not taken any punitive action against the ruling party members that were involving themselves in illegalities.

“To the best of our knowledge, the PF leadership in Central Province should know its party members that are mining manganese illegally. We are, therefore, surprised that PF officials engaging in illegalities in this province are not being punished,” he said.

And National Democratic Congress Central Province youth chairman Delkins Bwalya stated that illegal mining activities were a recipe for conflicts between mining investors, the government and traditional leaders.

Bwalya charged that the illegal mining activities currently taking place in Central Province had the blessings of the PF top leadership.

“There’s illegal mining of manganese even in Kabwe. And there’s no way some junior party officials can start mining manganese without the knowledge of their senior party officials. All these illegal mining activities have the blessings of the PF top leadership. And as NDC youths in Central Province, we demand that the Zambia Police command must bring all culprits to book,” said Bwalya.

During a stakeholders’ engagement meeting in Kapiri Mposhi district involving traditional leaders last year, Central Province permanent secretary Bernard Chomba bemoaned the high levels of illegal mining activities in the Province.

REJECT BILL 10, SAYS APC PRESIDENT

By Watch Reporter

The controversial Constitutional amendment Bill 10, must be rejected by all Zambians and Members of Parliament, All People’s Congress (APC) president Nason Msoni has said.

Msoni says the controversial Bill 10 is a self serving proposed piece of legislation that legitimatises illegalities and fraud.

He notes that the Bill is a criminal piece of legislation that will suffocate and support dictatorship.

Msoni observes that the infamous bill stinks betrayal and deceit in the governance of the nation.

“Undoubtedly this is the most absurd and criminal piece of legislation that has ever been introduced in the people’s assembly. It stinks betrayal of the governed and deceit. This bill clearly smacks abuse of public trust,” he said.

The opposition leader charged the desperation of the PF government on Bill 10 confirms that this piece of legislation does not in any way benefit Zambians but the few individuals whose intent is to hijack the democratic space in the country.

Msoni believes that once Parliament is dissolved no one surely is expected to remain in a government office and getting paid tax payers money.

“Similarly no one is reasonably expected to be campaigning using government vehicles and drawing fuel and allowances after the dissolution of Parliament. That is outright criminality of the highest order which should be rejected.

Bill 10 is a classic case of abuse of the legislative process by the executive to advance individual political interests but at the expense of the Zambian public,” says Msoni.

Msoni whose party is a member of the the opposition alliance, has since urged government to stop any further misuse of public resources through the sponsoring of what he terms cronies to be traveling around the country campaigning for Bill 10 when hospitals have no medicines and vital services.

“Most important services in hospitals have been suspended due to lack of resources. For once we urge President Lungu to show kindness to his fellow compatriots and fellow citizens by ensuring that public funds are not needlessly wasted on fruitless personal political errands but to ensure that funds are put to good use.

Our unsolicited counsel to the president is that good things don’t last forever. It is time to make peace with Zambians,” he said.

He has since urged the PF to be grateful to the people of Zambia by allowing them to administer the affairs of the nation in the past years.

“To every season there is a new season. Be grateful to Zambians and stop this bill 10 mindless political ambition,” he said.

DR CHILUFYA HAS ISSUES…may the rule of law prevail upon him – Kalaba

DEMOCRATIC Party president Harry Kalaba says it is in health minister Chitalu Chilufya’s own interest to resign from his post in light of investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission

Kalaba also says Edgar Lungu is President for Chinese, no wonder his sickening silence amidst anti-labour practices in some Chinese-owned business entities.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader has called the government’s contraction of a French firm, Lazard Freres, to provide advisory services, in relation to liability management of Zambia’s debt portfolio, as an economic joke.

Kalaba hopes that corruption-accused Dr Chilufya would cooperate with the ACC.

“I appeal to Dr Chitalu Chilufya’s moral conscience that if President Lungu will not relieve him of his duties, as the ACC are probing him, which is most likely, Chitalu Chilufya will be honourable enough to say ‘let me step down and pave way for proper investigations to be done.’ Stepping down is in his own interest,” Kalaba told The Mast. “If Chitalu Chilufya remains as the health minister and yet he is being probed by the ACC, even when he will be exonerated, and maybe rightly so, people will not believe that Chitalu Chilufya has been exonerated. We have seen this before where some minister was exonerated by the courts of law, but people still consider that particular person as being corrupt. So, if he (Dr Chilufya) wants to be in that league, let him hang on to that kama office of being the health minister.”

Kalaba argued that Dr Chilufya was not being fought within the PF.

“I don’t want to believe that this is a political thing, that people are fighting him within the PF. That is rubbish! There are many people who want to become presidents in the PF. Why are they not appearing before the Anti-Corruption Commission? Why should it be only Chitalu Chilufya?” he asked. “The guy has issues which he should answer. We have seen the kind of monies which we have never seen before. If he is clean, we thank God [but] if he is found wanting, may the rule of law prevail upon him. We are tired of people who are involved in shoddy deals running away with murder. Let them not even politicise the Anti-Corruption Commission’s work.”

On the selection of Lazard Freres to offer advisory services on the country’s debt portfolio, Kalaba reacted that such an action typified that the PF government was not a forward-looking one.

According to secretary to the treasury Fredson Yamba, Lazard Freres would offer advisory services at a contracted sum of US $5 million.

“The contraction of Lazard from France to help us restructure our debt is very saddening. When we’ve been talking about this government not being forward-looking – a government that doesn’t want to use its local people in order to deal with problems – this is a typical example of what we’ve been talking about,” he said. “Government is going to spend close to a hundred million kwacha to pay a French firm that is going to help to look at the debt portfolio and help to restructure it. This is a joke! This is lack of seriousness.”

Kalaba asked: “where are our economists in this country?”

“If I was President, I would not have gone to France to ask them to restructure our loans. If I was President, I would have looked at our economists coming from the University of Zambia and the Ministry of Finance? Where is Professor [Oliver] Saasa? Where is Caleb Fundanga? These people are able to help us [to] restructure our debt,” he said. “We didn’t have to pay that amount of money to do this. This is a joke and it should come to an end. Every resource that we have in this country we have to take it outside this country! They have done the same with the gold mining; giving outsiders. Zambians have remained spectators. Shame upon this government!”

Meanwhile, on Lusaka mayor Miles Sampa’s supposedly induced apology for his ‘good deed’ of cautioning Chinese business owners in the capital city who are/were mistreating Zambians at places of work, Kalaba asked: “how do you take the mayor and parade him before the press to apologise to the Chinese people for doing the right thing?”

“This man (Sampa) was talking on behalf of the workers who are being kept in those factories, industries. He speaks for them and you rise against him! President Lungu is a president for the Chinese, not for the Zambians,” Kalaba charged. “How come he is failing to talk for Zambian people? Why does he take pleasure in always talking for the Chinese, instead of the Zambian people? He has not said a single word on the issue of Zambians being quarantined!”

He is distressed that the ministries of labour and of foreign affairs have not given comprehensive positions on some Zambians who were being mistreated by foreign business owners at places of work.

“But the mayor has been forced [to apologise]. The Minister of Local Government (Dr Charles Banda) had to castigate the Mayor of Lusaka in an open forum like that and the President himself rebuked the mayor by refusing to greet him…” Kalaba lamented. “Let us begin realising that we are a sovereign state which can make its own sovereign decisions. When I become President, this nonsense is coming to an end.”

Fred Mmembe: The Supreme Architect Of Our Currect National Malaise

BY Nkonkomalimba Kapumpe

Fred Membe stands tall in the class of those whom I consider heroes; his indomitable bravery, uncompromising and blunt editorials really kept our leaders in check and open our minds up to a level of thinking that always encompassed the bigger picture. Fred Membe was the first man I ever heard refer a head of State as being ‘stupid’ or dull. His articles and editorials left an indelible mark in our hearts and minds.

Fred M’membe, after many moons, become the proverbial monster that he firecely fought in the first estate of government . Over the years, Fred learnt that the individuals that surrounded the head of state formed the very fabric by which the Presidency was characterized. This Fred came to learn when Richard Sakala was alleged to have been the one ordering his “jail time” during the Chiluba regime. In later years, Fred made certain that Richard Sakala did some jail time himself; through an intricately orchestrated plot.

Fred was instrumental in the restatement of multi-party politics and subsequent removal of the Kaunda regime and ushering in of President Chiluba to the helm of power. Fred really contributed to bring democracy and capitalism through MMD. However, Fred and FTJ’s relationship went in a polarized direction as this accorded him the opportunity to provide checks and balances – far more than any other media institution at the time in this country. History can indeed not be written without mentioning Fred Membe.

Fred Membes compromises started when he aligned himself with President Mwanawasa. At that time, President Mwanawasa had already turned against Fred’s Arch enemy – former President Chiluba. As the English saying goes, “the enemy of my enemy, is my friend.” Suddenly, Fred was now working with the Nichito brothers whom he had previously condemned for being over paid and not handling the task to persecute Chiluba very well. He comprised because of hate, and this is my point.

By now, All the decisions or systematic errors that Fred was making were not driven by his bravery, but by the desire to settle old scores; he was consumed with rage and driven by revenge. His was to paint chiluba black and this became a bitter rivalry even unto death. All objectivity was lost.

After the death of President Mwanawasa, Fred lost his grip on the Presidency as the new occupant of State House was said to be undeserving of the highest office in the land: President Rupiah Banda. As if to add salt to Fred’s injury, former president Chiluba was back in the corridors of power through his association with RB.

This incensed Fred and had him go on an all out attack against President Banda; painting him black at every opportunity, as his target was Frederick Chiluba.

Fred further formed an ‘unlikely’ alliance with the then Opposition leader, Michael Sata as he started giving Mr Sata favorable after favorable media coverage. Fred was qouted many times referring to PF as “we” though his editorials. I know Fred and the many posts he had written about Sata, that there is no way he could have truly believed in Sata, yet he did at the expensive of the nation to get ride of RB; all in the interest not forgiving Chiluba.

Now here comes the punchline, When Sata won the elections, we completely lost our Fred; his true colours were now in the full glare of everyone to see. They say power currupts? Well here is a case study for you to work on. Fred become untouchable. He became the monster we fought; from judges to the President, they all feared him. One Judge was even fired a day after making judgement against Fred. Fred did not seem himself as being part of the King no, he was the KING MAKER.

Remember, I started by mentioning that he realized very early who really controlled the Presidency through his experience with Richard Sakala. Fred wanted the President’s ear and now he finally had it. He was all powerfull with Wynter running the legislature, Judiciary , Executive and media. He defended Sata and painted him white, we could not question Sata.

Fred M’membes voice through the Presidential Aids and new paper was the voice of God.

Then he went after office of the Chief Public Prosecutor. He made sure is now business partner Nchito be given that office. This office basically determines who goes to jail and who does not. Guess the first court case Nchito dropped with hours of being appointed? Fred’s court case.

Then came Solicitor-General’s office which was given to Fred’s friend, Musa Mwenye who was reported pushing the Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ) to write of Fred and Nchito compnay’s debt. We all heard that the speaker of parliament was generally Fred’s idea. This is the time we saw articles in the post about nepotism.

Judge Mutana three were suspended because they made a judgment against Fred. Fred M’membe once hero turned into a monster that even I feared terribly.

In later days, the people got feed up and Sata was many things but not dull. He started distancing himself from Fred. After seeing this, Fred started to make calls for Sata to resign and that he was not fit to run the office of President. Things he had disputed before, to me all this was done just to protect himself and his ego.

So I don’t understand how you can trust such a man to rescue us when he always abandoned us to meet is ego for revenge and hate. He puts his on feelings above the nation. What manner of hate does one carry? Look at who he supported Sata just so he would exert revenge? Look at what he did when he was given power through PF?

Now tell me again what Fred is about that we should trust him? Me he owes
me an explanation…I was hurt

Don’t sue me I have no money just explain and tell this tuma new followers that we were in love with you before them.lol

Herve Renard – The Architect of Victory

Herve Renard – The Architect of Victory

An excerpt from ‘The Zambian Game.

Available from Amazon Kindle as an ebook @ $4.99

He spent most of his time prowling his technical area and barking out instructions continually. By the end of the tournament he had expended almost as much energy as his players who ran themselves into the ground in every match. Never before in the history of Zambian football has one man had such a profound influence on the national team and stamped his philosophy of the game so indelibly on it that the whole became greater than the sum of the parts that made it. In doing so he turned a team of also-rans into African champions.

On the two occasions he has been in charge of the Zambia national team, Herve Renard has created a team in his own image and implemented a doctrine that has shaped its culture in a way that no other Zambian coach has. The French coach who first caught the eye of African football followers when he first worked with the legendary Claude Le Roy, and the Ghanaian team at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, has undoubtedly been influenced by his mentor’s ways.

Le Roy is well recognised in African football circles, having won the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon in 1988. Renard’s designation with the Ghanaian team was physical trainer, a title he bore to get round Ghanaian insistence of having a local coach as assistant. Ghana’s Under-20 World Cup winning coach Silas Tettey carried that mantle. While working with the Ghanaian team, he was able to observe the workings of Le Roy, and even though Ghana went out in the semi-final in 2008, losing unexpectedlyo Cameroon, it was a team that played with passion, flair and skill.

Fast-forward to May 2008 when Renard was brought into take over the Zambia national team after their first round failure in Ghana. He immediately sought to impose his ideas on a team that, while full of promise, hadn’t delivered for many years. They had not been able to get beyond the first round of the Africa Cup of Nations for sixteen years, since the 1996 tournament in South Africa. Four years after his first foray into Zambian football, he stood at the top of the African coaching ladder, having achieved the near-impossible task of taking a team, largely made up of African-based players, from the league’s of South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a sprinkling of players from China, and second grade European teams, and turning them into African champions.

The feat was all the more remarkable because Renard, having left just after the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, took over the team only two months before the 2012 tournament began, after the surprise dismissal of Zambia’s Italian coach Dario Bonetti.

His return was received with mixed feelings by the Zambian football fraternity who felt that he had abandoned the team for a more lucrative offer after Zambia’s unexpected showing in Angola when the team reached the quarter-final for the first time in fourteen years. Renard later explained that he had had to leave for personal reasons that affected his family life. He then spent six months in Angola where his working relationship withthe Angolan football association ended with agreement by ‘mutual consent’ to part ways.

He next popped up at Algerian club side, USM Alger, but had hardly settled down, spending eleven months there, when he invoked a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave if a national team job offer came up.

Renard’s first step on his return to Zambia was to take a look at the players who had taken the team through to the 2012 African Cup of Nations under Dario Bonetti. Only then would he make his squad selection, after he had given each player a chance to prove himself. He recalls Zambia’s first friendly match away to Nigeria. ‘ It was a game with the players who were playing in the qualification. I just wanted to see them in the positions they were playing during the qualification,’ he said, speaking in his accented English. ‘One example is Francis Kasonde who was playing right back. For me, he is not a right back. I respect the decision of the coach who was there before, but it’s not my philosophy of football. I just wanted to see. We lost the game but for me it was not a problem to lose this game.’

The Zambian team also travelled to India for much-criticised friendly matches against an Indian select side and the national team, with fans and pundits alike questioning the value of playing against such unheralded opposition so close to the tournament. Zambia beat a Goa select side, 4-1, before going on to beat the Indian national team, 5-0. Out of the team that travelled to India, eight players would make his final Africa Cup of Nations squad.

After the Christmas break, the team headed to South Africa for the final camp before the tournament began. Three friendly matches were lined up. The first, against a weak Jomo Cosmos team, ended in a 7-0 win in Zambia’s favour. There wasn’t much to read in the result against Cosmos, who were still on their midseason break. For Renard, his focus was more on shaping the team than the score. Draws against South Africa and Namibia in the next two matches drew sharp criticism in Lusaka as local journalists savaged the team in the media.

Zambian fans living in South Africa vented their anger at the lack of goals, and this rankled Renard. ‘People were talking, but this is fantastic motivation especially for me. You know, one guy told me in South Africa, ‘you are eating our tax,’ when we play against Namibia. I remember they were fifteen Zambian fans there, and we drew against Namibia. It was an insult that gave me fantastic motivation. You can’t understand how it motivated me when I heard people talk like this. If they think they are doing this to break me down, please stop because you won’t be able to break me down. I’m so strong,’

As the Zambian team prepared to go their base in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, Renard took them aside and had a quiet word, reminding them of their responsibilities to themselves and to the Zambian people. ‘Listen guys, we had a fantastic tournament and I was so proud of you in 2010 but we have to do better than we did because people are waiting, are expecting a lot.’ He reminded them of the achievements of the Zambian team in the aftermath of the air crash off the coast of Gabon. ‘Why one team in 1994, with a B team, were able to reach the final, why? Can you tell me why? Because of their spirit, and their commitment. That means we have to do the same.’

Chakwera, Chilima claim govt plot to postpone Malawi fresh elections

Tonse Alliance presidential ticket pair of torchbearer Lazarus Chakwera and his running mate Saulos Chilima on Saturday claimed government wants to find excuses of postponing the fresh presidential electons for fear of losing, saying the political violence is one of the tactics being used.

The two leaders said this at Namadidi ground in Zomba where Tonse alliance addressed a political rally.

Chilima strongly condemned escalatting political violence and the stoning of his convoy in Phalombe on Friday but said he is not intimidated and will continue to address rallies across the country.

He accused DPP of fermenting the violence to create anarchy in the country so that President Peter Mutharika can declare a State of Emeregency with an aim to delay the fresh elections.

However, Chilima urged UTM and Tonse A lliance supporters to mantain peace and not retaliate.

“We are not afraid and we will not be intimidated. I will continue with campaign across the country because Malawi belongs to all of us,” said Chilima.

Chilima said the main agenda of the alliance is to remove liars thieves in powerand give Malawians a better country for all.

He accused former president Bakili Muluzi of sponsoring a Mr Mtente and giving thugs money amounting K1.7 million to target his life and cause violence in Mangochi where the alliance is having a rally on Sunday.

The Veep also said attempts by DPP to use Covis-19 pandemic to delay the elections will also fail.

On his part, Chakwera also condemned violence and said plans to postpone the elections will not work.

He announced that the alliance government will change the fiscal year so that it starts on April 1 and end on March 31.

Chakwera said the change will allign the fiscal year with the agriculture season to give farmers ample time to acquire farm inputs.

He also announced that his government will construct a 10 storey hostel at Chancellor College in Zomba to ease accommodation challenges that students face at the college and other colleges.

Chakwera also re-affirmed that UTM promises of one million jobs for the youth and cheap fertlizer will be implemented immediately the allince takes over government.

Member of Parliament for Zomba Changalume John Chikalimba said people of Zomba, including chiefs and civil servants are happy with the Tonse Alliance.

He thanked the alliance leaders for listening to the wishes of the people to join forces and have one joint presidential candidate.

The rally was briefly delayed because of rains which satrted after the alliance leaders had already arrived.

Malawi is set to hold a fresh presidential election following the February 3 judgement of a five-judge panel of the High Court of Malawi sitting as the Constitutional Court that nullified the May 21 2019 presidential election over alleged irregularities. A seven-judge panel of the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal upheld the lower court’s ruling.

Chilima and Chakwera had petitioned the court to nullify the election.

Chilima says Mutharika should not waste breath to insult Malawi judges over poll nullification

Vice President Saulos Chilima has lashed out at President Peter Mutharika for accusing Malawi’s judiciary of agitating for what he called “regime change” activities in their determination to nullify last year’s presidential vote and ordered fresh elections by July 3.

The Supreme Court of Appeal this month rejected Mutharika’s bid to overturn the landmark ruling by the Constitutional Court quashing his controversial re-election, paving the way for a re-run, scheduled for June 23.

Mutharika on Friday told the national broadcaster MBC TV that the decisions by the Constitutional Court and the subsequent upholding of the verdict by the Supreme Court of Appeal was a “travesty of justice.”

He said: “The court did not follow the evidence and the law. To me it was a judicial coup d’etat.”

The octogenarian Malawi leader, a Yale law alumni and former Washington University law professor, , said the courts simply decided they wanted to get rid of the government despite the fact that they found that the elections were not rigged and that the irregularities did not affect the outcome.

“What has happened now is that they have set a standard that whenever there is an election and there is an irregularity, that election will be nullified.

“All over the world, people are laughing at Malawi… people are laughing at the judiciary in Malawi because what happened was totally ridiculous,” Mutharika said.

But Chilima, who together with Lazarus Chakwera had petitioned the court to nullify the election, said the President’s rants against the judiciary was wrong and unfortunate.

“No matter how you can insult the judges, they delivered their judgement, Full stop. What remains now is fresh elections,” said Chilima during a campaign political rally in Zomba on Saturday.

He said the President should not waste his breath attacking the judges on the matter that was already determined by a five-judge panel of the High Court of Malawi sitting as the Constitutional Court that nullified the May 21 2019 presidential election over alleged irregularities.

A seven-judge panel of the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal upheld the lower court’s ruling.

In February 2014, Mutharika, then in opposition, introduced Chilima—then working as the first Malawian managing director of multinational Airtel Malawi—into frontline politics as his running mate in a pairing analysts described as a blend of public sector and private sector expertise.

However, the duo fell out and in June 2018 Chilima—widely known by his initials SKC—ditched DPP to lead newly-formed UTM Party, an outfit born after a section of DPP functionaries unsuccessfully campaigned for him to succeed Mutharika through what was called ‘Chilima Movement’.

The 2021 General Elections And Adoptions Of Young People: Lessons From The 2016-2021 Electoral Cycle

By Mcdonald Chipenzi

By constitutional definition under Article 266 of the Constitution of Zambia, a “young person” is one between the ages of 15 years and 19 years olds.

This is different from being a youth which, by definition, goes up 35 years old.

Now, coming to the issue of elections and “young” or youth persons, it is a good debate worth noting where, in some political parties, the youth call for “YOUNG” people to be adopted in majorities in 2021 general elections has echoed through hills, trouphs, crests and mountains.

However, the experience with “young” elected leaders in the almost ending electoral cycle (2016-2021) has been non impressive and sometimes frustratingly frustrating esp among rural councilors.

Most of the resignations that have triggered costly by-elections have been purportedly been occasioned by the “young” elected leaders from the wards.

Some have abandoned their wards to pursue education opportunities and other lucrative ventures in urban centres becoming visiting Councilors during this electoral cycle.

In as much as we have visiting MPs whose place of work is in Lusaka at NATIONAL Assembly and their stay in Lusaka justified unlike the councilor who must be resident in that district, the rate of resignations among MPs has been low during the 2016-2021 electoral cycle.

At Parliamentary level, I only remember of one resignation occasioned by Harry Kalaba for Bahati then while at Mayoral level, we had only 2 casual vacancies as a result of resignations ie. KAFUE AND KAOMA.

What could be the reasons behind this instability among the young elected leaders as ward councilors?

One reason could be that some or most of these elected young leaders had just completed Grade 12 without any established life and homes, most could have still been kept by their parents.

They are/were still in high gear of searching for jobs and pursuing educational opportunities so they had to have divided attentions more esp that being a WARD Councilor is not as rewarding as being an MP or council chairperson or Mayor.

Unless our Youth/YOUNG people direct their energies to correct the wrong impression created by those youth elected in the last elections in 2016, many political parties will be hesitant to adopt persons unestablished as Councilors due to the experience currently being obtaining in some parties but will only offer politics and lipservice on their adoptions promises in order to win the youth votes.

It must be born in mind that once elected councilor, u must plan your life of being one for 5 years thereafter, one can pursue other opportunities unless those opportunities have little impact on one’s representative role.

In oldern days, only retired civil servants or established persons in that particular ward(s) with minimal possibilities of mobility in search of jobs or educational opportunities were optioned.

I for see political PARTIES in 2021 asking for established persons to be recruited and adopted for Councilorship to avoid casual vacancies ocassioned by resignations among other reasons leading to costly by-elections.

I submit.

Dr Chilufya won’t easily go

Brebner Changala says Edgar Lungu and Dr Chitalu Chilufya are in the same league, hence the Anti-Corruption Commission’s fear to arrest the health minister.

“And this is the challenge the Zambian people face. We are being led by people of questionable character. I must confess that we are living in very extraordinary times where some people are more equal than others. And when it comes to those who are not in good books with the State or with the government as it were, the Anti-Corruption Commission is very swift and it dramatises the arrests, and the information flow is very efficient,” says Changala. “The impunity and the unprecedented corruption that we have seen in this country has been at the higher level in the inner circle of President Lungu and the entire Executive.”

The truth is the Ministry of Health, which Dr Chilufya heads, is the main source of money for Edgar and his league. If that tap is tightly closed, they would have serious problems financing their politics and lifestyles.

For a long time, the Ministry of Health has been a conduit for stealing public funds.

We still remember how it was very difficult for Levy Mwanawasa to allow the arrest and prosecution of Kashiwa Bulaya, a former Ministry of Health permanent secretary under the Frederick Chiluba regime, for corruption. Bulaya was used by Chiluba to steal money from the Ministry of Health to finance Levy’s campaign in 2001. It was Bulaya who was every week delivering campaign money to Levy.

When it came to arresting Bulaya for corruption Levy tried very hard to protect him. It took two months of daily editorial comments by The Post for Levy to give in and allow the arrest and prosecution of Bulaya.

And when it comes to the Ministry of Health corruption, Edgar is a beneficiary and cannot easily wash his hands like Pontius Pilate and allow Dr Chilufya to be crucified and nailed to the cross.

The pharmaceutical business in Zambia has been destroyed by the corruption of this regime. Most of the companies supplying drugs to our hospitals belong to them or are in their corrupt league. Those not in their corrupt network are not having it easy.

So Edgar will not easily let Dr Chilufya arrested and prosecuted for corruption. It’s too risky for him to allow that. It will take a lot of pressure from the public and other institutions for Edgar to sacrifice Dr Chilufya.

Thomas Sankara’s Legacy: Feats He Achieved in Just 4 Years as President of Burkina Faso

0

Thomas Sankara was a man ahead of his own time. He was a forward thinking leader and no wonder his ideas seem even more relevant with time.

The former President of Burkina Faso, President Blaise Compaore will go on trial in November over the alleged assassination of former president Thomas Sankara. Alioune Zanre, a commissioner of the tribunal told journalists that 13 others would also face trial in connection with the crime. Thomas Sankara was killed on October 15, 1987 in a coup that brought Blaise Compaore, his close friend, to power. Compaore himself, was deposed in October 2014 by the masses who opposed his bid to change the country’s constitution and extend his 27 year hold on power. Most of the protesters said they had been inspired by Sankara’s legacy. What is this legacy? Bear in mind that Sankara was only leader for 4 years and yet his short tenure keeps changing the trajectory of politics in Burkina Faso and the rest of the African continent almost 30 years later. It has been said Thomas Sankara was a man ahead of his own time. He was a forward thinking leader and no wonder his ideas seem even more relevant with time.

What exactly did the great Captain Sankara want of his country? A retired professor of economics, Noel Nebie told Al Jazeera, “Sankara wanted a thriving Burkina Faso, relying on local human and natural resources as opposed to foreign aid and starting with agriculture, which represents more than 32 percent of the country’s GDP and employs 80 percent of the working population, he smashed the economic elite who controlled most of the arable land and granted access to subsistence farmers. That improved production making the country almost self-sufficient.”

Changing the economics

Sankara did away with the luxuries widely associated with the oligarchs of Africa. His car was nothing fancy; a relatively cheap Renault 5 which was the same make used by ministers. Gone were the grand and expensive presidential cars and unnecessary convoys too. Joan Baxter, who was a BBC reporter at the time says, “Sankara could often be seen moving about the capital Ouagadougou, in the front seat of his little black Renault, arm out the window and waiting like everyone else for traffic lights to change.” This was in comparison to the loud processions that would close down major roads “hours before the president came through in a cacophony of sirens and a blur of speeding BMW motorcycles, luxury sedans, jeeps and military vehicles”. Sankara was not that kind of man. He went on to ban the use of air conditioners in government buildings except in the three hottest months of the year in a bid to control the state energy bills. His salary was the equivalent of $450 and he had reduced the salaries of all public servants.

Championing gender equality

Sankara was a forward thinking leader whose policies make more sense now than they would have in the 1980s. He was not scared to think differently and be loud about it too. One International Women’s Day, he gave a speech reminding Burkinabe men that they all had mothers yet they treated their own wives “worse than cattle”.He did not simply create policies detached from the woman on the ground, the poor woman who would not benefit from quotas for government positions. Sankara went down to the family unit and addressed issues from there going up. He gave an anti-prostitution decree and even went as far as having a conference with sex-workers. He then told the assembled women that they were victims of social injustice and advised them to take up “honourable professions”. Sankara did not just speak, he made certain that State-owned restaurants employed the women. As if that was not enough change for a short four years, Sankara also outlawed female genital mutilation, forced marriages and polygamy.

Promoting self-sufficiency

One of the most famous Sankara quotes is, “He who feeds you, controls you.” The wisdom in that statement cannot be doubted. In early 1987, he had delivered a speech about producing and eating Burkinabe. Baxter says, “Sankara maintained that political independence was meaningless if African countries were still tied to the economic apron strings of their former colonial ad other neo-colonial powers.” According to him, there were trees that abounded in the Sahel which produced delicious and nutritious fruits that were going to waste. In a bid to save the local tomato industry, he declared a “Day of the Tomato” to educate the populace on preservation techniques. He also spoke out against importing apples from France when Burkina Faso had tropical fruits that could not be sold. His thinking was, “…people buy them because they come from Europe and not from our trees here, because they can’t resist the temptation to eat just like a French man.” Baxter calls him the first “locavore” but his intention to produce locally did not simply revolve around food. After having a hard time getting financing for a railway project that would connect Benin to Cote d’Ivoire, he launched a programme to complete the railway with limited foreign aid. 62 kilometres of rail were laid by the Burkinabe between 1985 and 1987. Instead of grovelling for aid, he tapped into the strength of his people and achieved success.

Building Burkina Faso, Inspiring Africa

One of the greatest feats achieved by Sankara was naming his country, Burkina Faso, “The land of the upright man”. This united his country yet etching a fundamental value of his people; honesty above all else. This spoke volumes about the country’s approach to corruption and all manner of vices in the country. The exploits of Thomas Sankara cannot be fully documented without doing a disservice to the man’s legacy. What is clear is that he was larger than life and it only took him four years to change the thinking of all Africans. He may have had his flaws like every other man but his positive work in mapping a self-sustainable route to African success is undoubtedly proof of a legend at work. His ideas live on! In his own words, “While revolutionaries as individuals can be murdered, you cannot kill ideas.”

Compromised Lungu can’t fight corruption – Kalala

JACK Kalala has charged that President Edgar Lungu is compromised, hence his inability to dismiss corrupt ministers.

Last week, the Anti-Corruption Commission warned and cautioned health minister Chitalu Chilufya on allegations of “possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime”.

However, ACC officers could not effect an arrest because a named provincial minister and some of President Lungu’s aides exerted pressure on the Commission to protect Dr Chilufya.

Commenting on the matter, Kalala, a former special assistant for projects implementation in the Levy Mwanawasa administration, said the public should in no way expect President Lungu to fight corruption because he is an accomplice.

“How many people have been arrested? How many people have been convicted? None. It shows that even himself is compromised. You see, that’s why he cannot fight corruption. He has a lot of money; he renovated the house there (in Lusaka’s Jack compound) there are policemen guarding the house and so on and so forth. Where did he get the money from?” Kalala asked yesterday.

“So, a compromised president cannot fight corruption because he’s the one encouraging it. So, this government headed by Edgar Chagwa Lungu cannot fight corruption because the system is corrupt. Lungu himself is corrupt, everyone else is corrupt in the system. How can a president start defending a minister who is being investigated?”

Kalala drew a comparison between presidents Lungu and Mwanwasa, and said: “They (ministers) know about him that he did this and he was involved in that, so that’s how the President also fears the ministers. So, he cannot take any action against them. Now with president Mwanawasa it was different. President Mwanawasa accounted for everything that he did; his imprest and everything was accounted for. So, he had no fear to take action against his ministers because no one could turn around and accuse president Mwanawasa of having done this, he compromised himself; he got money from here or there, no. But with this one it is different.”

He reaffirmed that the current government had no intention of fighting corruption.

“You see, this government is not there to fight corruption. Fighting corruption is not their agenda. As far as they’re concerned, ubomba mwibala alyefya mwibala (a labourer eats from the field). And that was stated by the President himself, so how do you expect the same person to start fighting corruption? When President Lungu talks about the fight against corruption he doesn’t mean it,” said Kalala. “You see those speeches are written for him for public consumption. But he doesn’t mean a single word of it because so far there’s a lot of corruption going on. So, no one in this government will be arrested by this government, or a minister will be dismissed for corrupt practices; that is not here nor there. What I would advise the institutions like the DEC (Drug Enforcement Commission) and Anti-Corruption Commission is to keep records of what they’re doing. When the government is removed then they will act on those things, not now. So, the President cannot fight corruption, he will not and he will never. President Lungu will never!”

People will get fed up of PF if we’re dominated by thugs – President Lungu

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says the people will soon get fed up of PF if some undisciplined top officials are left unchecked.

And President Lungu says top PF leaders who are going round the country claiming that they are going to take over the party and engaging themselves in criminal activities do not represent him.

Speaking when he addressed party officials in Kasempa, Friday, President Lungu said people were going to be fed up with the party because of some undisciplined leaders.

I said this yesterday and I am saying it again; the people that saw UNIP get out of power are the undisciplined members of that party, the people who killed MMD out of government are the undisciplined members and the members who will [remove] us PF are the undisciplined members in the party,” President Lungu said.

“People got fed up of the chairman in the UNIP days because he was busy looking at other people’s things and getting land and all those things, people got fed up. Similarly, people got fed up with MMD because they were allocating land illegally and doing all sorts of things, people got fed up. Sooner than later, people will get fed up of PF if we allow ourselves to be dominated by thugs and criminals in the name of leaders. So for that reason, don’t expect that you will get the support from the party, from the President, from the chairman, from the Vice-President [or from] any of us the top leadership in the party if you misbehave because you are leaders. We will deal with you.”

And President Lungu said he was not involved in any criminal activities being conducted in his name.

“And if you go round breaking the law and saying ‘no, the President is backing me, I am going to be the President’ you are on your own. People are going round the country saying ‘I’m doing this with the party, SG is involved in this, the President is backing me in this’, illicit deals and all, I am not involved. In PF, we don’t have sacrificial lambs or sacred cows, everyone is equal,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Lungu noted with sadness that some people in the party were saying he had messed it up the because he brought people from MMD and UPND .

“For those who were in the party in 2021, those of you who were with us in 2011, those of you who joined yesterday, you are all part of this political party PF. I am saying this because I have received some reports that some of you say ‘we started the party and you found us’ there is nothing like that. We believe in inclusion, we believe in serving the people. So those who believe in PF, I believe in you. In 2021 we will pick from you who is going to be our councilor, we will pick from you who is going to be member of parliament, we will pick from you who is going to be our minister. I am saying this because I have heard people that have formed their own political parties and saying ‘Lungu messed up PF because he has brought people who were in MMD and UPND’, shame to those people. The vision of Mr Sata was to build a national party where we all felt loved and wanted. If you are talking of a party which is embracing all manner of people, embracing of all tribes, which is a national character, it is PF,” President Lungu said.

He also called for 50 per cent representation of women in next year’s general elections.

“I am glad to hear that you are working well. Please identify sooner than later an MP for 2021. I don’t mind whether it is a man or woman as long as you are PF and a member, you are eligible to contest. I am saying this because Zambia is a member of the SADC and we have talked about these issues of women participating in the issue of governance it is time that Zambia began to set a standard and we want all women in leadership. So provincial chairman, district chairman, constituency chairman and all others please take note that we want to achieve a 50-50 representation in the 2021 elections. I know what I am talking about because the more women we have in our nation, the more responsible we will be. Time is gone when a woman was confined to a kitchen and was confined to take care of the children time now is for a woman to participate equally at 50-50 with others. So apart from the women, I am also saying we will have the youths in 2021,” said President Lungu. – ND

Lies have cost me my friendship with Hichilema, laments Mumbi Phiri

PATRIOTIC Front deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri has lamented that political lies in the media have cost her the good friendship she had with UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.

And Phiri has insisted that 2021 presidential aspirant Kelvin Fube Bwalya (KBF) does not qualify to contest the PF presidency because he is not a member of the party.

Meanwhile, Phiri has asked UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma to stop blaming PF for his party’s failure to go for a general convention from the time the Hichilema was ushered into office 15 years ago.

Speaking when she featured on UNZA Radio’s Lusaka Star programme, Wednesday, regretted that the “lies being spread about tribalism” in the country had cost her friendship with Hichilema.

“I am a victim of being called a tribalist because of lies and I lost a very good friend of mine. Mr Hakainde Hichilema was a very good friend of mine; I am one of those people who could go to Mr Hichilema’s house and have tea together. But our relationship was spoiled because of lies. I am appearing in the report of the Commission of Inquiry over a lie. Some people lied that I called Mr Hakainde Hichilema a kachema, words I never used,” Phiri lamented.

“I was talking to Gerald Shawa (Prime TV proprietor) over the weekend because he’s my brother-in-law, so I was telling him that I pleaded with his TV station then to play the original words; I said…but they decided not to clear me. So, when people are talking about our Minister of Livestock (Professor Nkandu Luo) said this, our Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry (Christopher Yaluma) said this, unless if I am there and I have proof. So, the words of tribalism are being perpetuated by people (who) want to get something out of politics to paint other people black and it makes me sad.”

And Phiri said KBF did not qualify to contest the presidency.

“Anybody who wants to challenge President Lungu is allowed, but what we look at is, are you a delegate? What does our [party] constitution say? We are supposed to pick four from the section; from the constituency; from the district; provincial leaders; councillors; members of central committee; if you are a member of parliament, you qualify and you are a delegate at the general conference. So, let us not even discuss names; if you are not any of those, you don’t qualify to contest. And for KBF, he is expelled from the party. This was a decision that was presided over by the central committee; it was a central committee decision. Let me explain further, it’s a rule which is there that when you leave the party, you have to apply if you want to come back and you are given three years (for re-admission). But there is discretion, if the President says, ‘let this person come back’ then the three years falls off. That’s what happened to GBM,” Phiri said.

“If a member of central committee suggests to say let us waiver these three years, it’s debated and when it’s finally agreed, then you are given a waiver of that three years. It’s not like Mumbi Phiri is making this up, it’s enshrined in our constitution. Mind you, KBF is my elder brother, we went together to Mufulira High School and I know him, it’s nothing personal, but it’s just the rules of the game. He does not qualify to contest the presidency as of now and he hasn’t indicated if he’s coming back to the party.”

Phiri refuted KBF’s claim that he never received an expulsion letter, saying it was actually delivered

“It is not true that he didn’t receive the suspension letter; I can even bring that letter to you, maybe if you deliver it to him, he will see it. Let us be sincere in what we do. We have a copy of the letter, which was written to him by the secretariat and we have copies to that letter. So, he can’t hide, and he can say whatever he wants to say, but we sent him the letter and it was even published in the newspapers, we even sent people to take the letter to his office. But I am willing to take the letter to his office again if that’s what he wants. Let us be straight in our politics,” Phiri said.

Meanwhile, Phiri refuted Kakoma’s allegations that the PF was plotting to stop UPND from contesting next year’s general election.

“It’s laughable, how? You would wonder how a person in their right mind would accuse us of that because I am aware that there was a court process in Livingstone where people wanted the court to rule that all the political parties which have never had intraparty elections should be de-registered. And in Bill 10, it’s there that they are encouraging intra-party elections. How can Charles Kakoma blame the PF for that? And in all these years, when did the UPND go for a general conference to elect new leaders and why should that be blamed on us? UPND have been doing is getting back to them, and now they want to blame others. They planted a seed, which is now germinating. We have never stopped them from the last time when they went to a convention when Mr Hakainde Hichilema became president. So, they should not blame us!” said Phiri charged.

“Honourable Kakoma is a very educated man and he knows that according to the scientific guidelines, which has been gathered, the number of people that has been allowed to meet during this period is 50 people. The people present at those district elections were more than 50, so the police stopped them on the basis of the ‘new normal’ which is scientific-proven. And where were they all this time?”

She also advised Chinese nationals living in Zambia to stop keeping money in their houses in order to avoid attacks.

“My advice to our Chinese brothers and sisters is that they should make sure that they bank their monies in banks. Where I live, we were neighbours with one Chinese couple; I think they experienced about two or three robberies and even put us, their neighbours, at risk because everybody knows that they keep their money in their houses. So, the chairperson for the Chinese, who are living in Zambia, please, talk to our brothers and sisters to start banking money in the banks so that these criminal activities can be minimized,” appealed Phiri. -ND

SCHEME TO INFILTRATE UPND INTRA-PARTY ELECTIONS UNEARTHED

30:05:2020

SCHEME TO INFILTRATE UPND INTRA-PARTY ELECTIONS UNEARTHED.

Youths in southern province have with keen interest taken it upon themselves to monitor the party elections which are going on in the Province.

It is quiet disturbing to discover that the Patriotic Front in southern province is trying by all means to sponsor their people to fake membership so that they be elected in all UPND party structures. Their aim is that once they put their people,it will be easy to manipulate the election results in 2021 general elections because these people will be polling agents. This issue was in one place in Njola Mwanza where some PF guys wanted to contest as Ward leaders but the team quickly discovered and moved in by asking those youths to produce UPND membership cards which they failed to produce.

As UPND Youths in Southern province we shall keep our eyes on these elections and we shall make sure that we scrutinize even the elections Officials within our party. We need to have a free clean elections which will allow people to choose leaders of their choice. Next year we are going into General Elections. Therefore, we shall not allow divisions and misunderstanding as we move on.

We are just wondering why the PF is busy pushing for our party to be disregistered and also to infiltrate our party structures if we are not a factor as they claim.

These dirty moves just confirm to the nation that PF is desperate and finished which can never be honest to the people of Zambia.

People of Zambia are no longer interested in the patriotic front government because of not fulfilling their promises of more money in the people’s pockets. This is evident because people of Zambia under PF have become poorer as basic commodities are expensive, dollar is high to a zambian kwacha and there are no jobs for the general citizens including businesses which have been taken over by the Chinese.

As southern province youths we wish to sound a warning that we shall not entertain any PF member to infiltrate our intra-party elections because UPND is not a party for people who have failed the people of Zambia. We shall continue monitoring these intra party elections both secretly and openly. Though no one is perfect, we would say so far our elections are going on well.

In any election, there is always a winner and a looser. We congratulate all those who have returned their positions and those who are coming in the offices for the first time. All we can say is that work hard by making sure that all the people who have no NRCs and voters cards in your areas get. To those who have lost elections, we want to assure you that UPND is a house with big rooms, meaning there are still many roles you can play in the party. Just like the coach substitutes a player in the game of football, it doesn’t mean that the substituted player is a bad player but it just means that the coach wishes to apply a new tactical approach and when the new introduced player scores the credit goes not only to the new player but to the whole team. Let’s remain united and support those who have been elected as there can only be one person serving at a particular post. Our call is for all of us to remain strong and united as our agenda is to form government and liberate the people of Zambia.
