American lawyer has hit back at Jay-Z after he denied that he along with Sean “Diddy” Combs r@ped one of the attorney’s clients

Controversial American lawyer, Tony Buzbee has hit back at Jay-Z after he denied that he along with Sean “Diddy” Combs r@ped one of the attorney’s clients in 2000.

Earlier today, Jay-Z’s name was added to a lawsuit filed by Houston attorney Tony Buzbee that he and Diddy r@ped the 13-year-old girl.

at a 2000 MTV VMAs afterparty .

In response to the lawsuit, the rapper is claiming that Buzbee is attempting to blackmail him and he plans to fight back. Read the previous report here.

On the other hand, Buzbee tweeted that when “my firm sent [Jay-Z’s] lawyer a demand letter on behalf of an alleged victim and that victim never demanded a penny from him.”

Buzbee alleged via X on Sunday that the individual “only sought a confidential mediation.”]

He continued, “Since I sent the letter on her behalf, Mr. Carter has not only sued me, but he has tried to bully and harass me and this plaintiff.”

Buzbee claimed that Jay-Z whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter —“previously denied being the one who sued me and my firm. He filed his frivolous case under a pseudonym.”

He went on to say that the lawsuit “had the opposite impact” on the alleged victim and “emboldened … her resolve.”

He concluded, “As far as the allegations in the complaint filed, we will let the filing speak for itself and will litigate the facts in court, not in the media.”

Attorney Tony Buzbee slams Jay-Z?s ?blackmail? claim over bombshellr@pelawsuit

On Buzbee’s claims that Jay-Z sued him, in November, the Texas-based attorney was sued by an unidentified person going by the name of John Doe over extortion, according to docs obtained by TMZ.

In it, the man, who is allegedly Jay-Z, claimed Buzbee threatened to release “entirely fabricated and malicious allegations of sexual assault — including multiple incidents of rape of a minor, both male and female — against Plaintiff if he refuses to comply with their demands.”

Buzbee’s demand letters further alleged the plaintiff r@ped his victims while they were under the influence of drugs at parties hosted by Combs.

Cardi B Gets Into Heated Spat With Producer Over Financial Dispute: ‘Shut The F Up!’

Cardi B has gotten into a war of words with her former producer SwiftOnDemand over alleged unpaid royalties.

Swift, who has production and songwriting credits on both of her Gangsta Bitch Music mixtapes, slid into Cardi’s Instagram DMs with a link to an article about the rapper’s excessive spending habits, accusing her of failing to keep her promise to take care of him financially.

“To all my youthful producers/songwriters out there, make sure your paperwork is put together right before working with any artist because things like this can happen, and you’ll be the one fucked in the end,” he wrote on Instagram while sharing their private conversation.

“This industry is filled with fake, nobody got you but you in the end, my advice to you! thankfully I’m a smart young man who does my research and receive what I do, but I am OWED way more then what was GIVEN and this is the response I get.”

Cardi responded by sending SwiftOnDemand an angry voice note in which she yells: “Shut the fuck up! You believe everything that you see on the fucking internet […] I have to feed all my three kids. I have fucking bills, n-gga, that nobody helps me with but myself. So shut the fuck up!”

The Bronx bombshell later commented on the producer’s post: “Please tell them how I have giving you my lawyers numbers and all my managers numbers from new ones to old managers. You are upset because our first manager shaft put you in a fucked up deal that my own managers tried to help you get out of.

“MIND YOU I was in a fucked up deal myself wit the same person that I had to end up paying 11 million. I even had offset trying to help you with your paperwork. I told you millions of times I got no control on the mixtapes that you worked on because it’s under our old manager label not Atlantic.

“A grown ass man counting my pockets by social media talking bout people im taking care of Nikka I got 3 kids and I take care of my family and I pay my own bills I don’t owe you nothing !!!!”

In a follow-up comment, Cardi claimed that she has screenshots of her giving Swift legal advice and helping him earn royalties from their collaborations, which were later posted on X by gossip blogger Ken Barbie.

“The issue is that you don’t understand you have to sue shaft the one that put you in a fucked up deal not me,” she wrote.

Burkina Faso leader names new premier after dissolving government

0

A day after dissolving the government without providing any reason, Burkina Faso’s ruling military junta on Saturday appointed a new prime minister.

Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo, communications minister and spokesperson for the previous government, has been named as the country’s new premier.

Military leader, Ibrahim Traore, made the announcement in a presidential decree read on state television on Saturday.

A journalist by trade and a close ally of Traore, Ouedraogo was formerly editor-in-chief and then director of the country’s state television.

No reason was given for the dismissal of former Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachim Kyelem de Tambela, who was appointed interim premier soon after Traore seized power in September 2022.

The junta ousted the military rule of Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba about eight months after it had staged a coup to remove democratically elected President Roch Marc Kaboré.

The country is one of several West African nations where the military has recently taken over, capitalising on popular discontent with previous democratically-elected governments over security issues.

However, since the latest coup, military leaders have struggled to end Burkina Faso’s security challenges, the very reason it claims had prompted it to take power.

Growing attacks by extremists linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group have devastated the country.

Thousands have been killed in recent years and more than two million people have been displaced, half of them children.

Analysts believe around half of Burkina Faso’s territory remains outside of government control.

The country’s transitional government has been running under a constitution approved by a national assembly that included army officers, civil society groups, and traditional and religious leaders.

Under pressure from the regional bloc, ECOWAS, the junta had set a goal to conduct an election in July 2024 to return the country to democratic rule.

However, in May it extended its transition term for five more years, the duration of one presidential term.

Alongside Niger and Mali, which have also experienced coups, Burkina Faso has severed ties with long-standing Western and regional partners, including ECOWAS, which they all quit early this year.

The three countries have banded together to form the Alliance of Sahel States and are battling jihadi violence that first erupted in northern Mali in 2012.

Mutsvangwa declares Mnangagwa the intellectual and ideological guru of Zanu-PF

Zanu-PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa has publicly declared President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the intellectual and ideological leader of the ruling party, emphasizing his quick absorption of new ideas and his practical approach to implementing them. Mutsvangwa made these remarks in a recent podcast hosted by economic analysts Tinashe Murapata and Rufaro Zengeni, where he also dismissed claims that Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is the strategic thinker or military leader of the organization.

According to Mutsvangwa, President Mnangagwa’s ability to swiftly grasp new concepts and translate them into actionable policies sets him apart as the ideological guide of Zanu-PF. He described Mnangagwa as an “intelligent” leader who drives the party’s ideational activities, contrasting his leadership style with that of Vice President Chiwenga, who is often associated with the military wing of the party.

Mutsvangwa scoffed at the idea of comparing Chiwenga to the late Josiah Magama Tongogara, the revered military commander of the Zimbabwe Liberation Army (ZANLA) during the liberation struggle. He stressed that there is no comparison between the two, highlighting the difference in their natural endowments and capacities. While Tongogara was lauded for his strategic thinking and military acumen, Mutsvangwa argued that Chiwenga does not possess the same qualities, particularly in the realm of ideation and strategy within Zanu-PF.

The comments come as a surprise to many, as Mnangagwa is not typically regarded as the intellectual and ideological leader of the party. Instead, he is often perceived as a pragmatic securocrat and enforcer, who rules with a firm hand. Critics have long referred to him as a “brawn and no brains” leader, focusing on his background as a military leader and security chief rather than his intellectual contributions.

In the context of Zanu-PF’s history, intellectuals and strategists have always played a crucial role in shaping the party’s narrative and policy direction. For years, the late former president Robert Mugabe, who passed away in 2019, was seen as the intellectual and ideological cornerstone of the party. Under his leadership, Mugabe was revered for his ability to craft policies and narratives that resonated both domestically and internationally.

Mutsvangwa’s assertion, however, signals a shift in how President Mnangagwa is viewed within the party, positioning him as not only a political enforcer but also as the ideological driving force of Zanu-PF’s future.

Rihanna Proud Of A$AP Rocky For Achievement At Annual Footwear Awards

Rihanna made a gorgeous appearance with her partner, A$AP Rocky, who was honored Wednesday, December 4, at the 38th Annual Footwear News Achievement Awards.

Images from the ceremony show the Diamonds singer in a knee-high slit and other accessories while A$AP came in a black leather jacket with other supporting elements.

Rihanna, who shares two children with A$AP, praised her partner and highlighted her baby daddy’s influence on the fashion industry.

“I’m super proud. This is why I’m here. I left my kids to be here. I’m super proud of their dad—that’s my baby daddy!”

“I think he’s always influenced the fashion game. He’s always had a unique sense of style that I think designers have honed in on and used as inspiration for collections, and he’s never gotten the amount of credit that he deserves.

“And being here tonight, it just feels great to see him, like, achieve something that we always knew that he was a part of and influenced, and I’m proud to be here by his side. It is a big deal,” she stated.

A$AP Rocky also expressed excitement at seeing his partner at such a grand celebration and also hinted at a possible music collaboration with Rihanna.

“A woman in a companion support [role] is everything, right? Especially when somebody’s a pair. I think that’s very important: to be united and to have that mutual respect and support.

“It’s lovely; that’s what I can say mostly about it. This moment, it’s beautiful, and I’m honored and blessed to be here right now, very grateful,” he noted.

About a possible collaboration, he stated, “You know, we’ve got something in the works. […] I think [we love working together so much as friends first and then partners] just because it’s easy, especially with somebody you share a kindred spirit with or you share the same interests with. It’s pretty easy. It feels more organic or natural.”

A$AP Rocky was recognized in the Collaboration of the Year category for his work on the “A$AP Rocky x Puma” collection at Cipriani South Street in New York.

Last month, Rihanna visited her hometown, Barbados, to launch her new collection of products under the Fenty Beauty brand, but her comments at the event sparked rumors about her possible retirement from music.

At the event, she recalled how her music journey had paved the way for other opportunities, indicating, among other things, that “music was the thing that got the attention, but God had other plans for me…”

This remark caught the attention of some fans who believe she pulled the brakes on her music career.

Jay-Z has broken his silence after being accused of r@ping a 13-year-old girl with Diddy in 2000

American rapper, Jay-Z has broken his silence after being accused of r@ping a 13-year-old girl with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in 2000.

The 55-year-old rapper released a statement denying and condemning the allegations in the filing via the Roc Nation X account.

An updated complaint in a civil case against Combs alleges that Jay-Z and Combs r@ped the girl at an after-party following the MTV Video Music Awards in September of 2000.

Jay-Z was added to the lawsuit which was originally filed as one of several anonymous complaints in October by Texas attorney Tony Buzbee.

It was gathered that some of the lawsuits did not survive because the plaintiffs declined to have their identities unveiled. However, the judge said the then-13-year-old victim showed sufficient cause to continue with the lawsuit in anonymity.

In Jay-Z’s statement, he slammed Buzbee, suggesting he was not a legitimate lawyer, and described the rape claims as a blackmail attempt.

The rapper added the allegations, which he said were ‘so heinous in nature,’ were all ‘idiotic claims.’

In the letter, the Roc Nation founder began: ‘My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a “lawyer” named Tony Buzbee.’

He accused Buzbee of taking on the case for ‘personal gain’ and wrote: ‘What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle.’

‘No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion,’ he continued. ‘So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!’

‘These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree? These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case,’ he continued.

‘This lawyer, who I have done a bit of research on, seems to have a pattern of these type of theatrics! I have no idea how you have come to be such a deplorable human Mr. Buzbee, but I promise you I have seen your kind many times over. I’m more than prepared to deal with your type,’ he added.

‘You claim to be a marine?! Marines are known for their valor, you have neither honor nor dignity’

He concluded his statement and wrote: ‘I look forward to showing you just how different I am.’

Syria’s former prime minister agrees to hand over power to rebel forces

0

Syria’s former prime minister, Bashar al-Assad, has agreed to hand over power to his rebel counterpart, the outgoing prime minister, Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali, told Al Arabiya TV, according to Reuters.

The leader of the Syrian rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) met with the Assad regime’s outgoing prime minister to discuss the transfer of power. A video shared by the rebels Monday shows the leader of HTS, Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, and the HTS-linked Salvation Government’s Prime Minister Mohammed al-Bashir, meeting with Ghazi al-Jalali.

The rebels said the meeting was to “coordinate the transfer of power in a manner that ensures the provision of services to our people in Syria.”

The meeting in Damascus comes after the outgoing prime minister pledged to cooperate with the rebels and endorse “a smooth and systematic transition of government functions” and preserve “state facilities,” in a message recorded after the rebels took Damascus.

The incoming prime minister, al-Bashir, was previously the prime minister of the rebel-held Idlib area of northern Syria.

“The guys now have a very good experience, they started working from nothing. Keep in mind that Idlib is small with no resources, we were able to do a lot in the past,” HTS leader Jolani said in the video.
“You will see that they are experienced. They have a good success record dealing with certain issues at various capacities, that’s why we need to continue working with them and benefit from [their experiences],” added Jolani — whom the rebels referred to by his real name of Ahmad al-Sharaa.

Over the weekend, a video emerged of the rebels escorting Assad’s prime minister to a hotel in Damascus. The video showed him surrounded by armed men walking down some steps and entering a black SUV with another man.

Also, in another news, Israel said its military struck Syria’s chemical weapons capabilities Monday morning after former President Bashar al-Assad and his family fled to Russia following a swift rebel offensive and the country said it ordered its military to establish a “security zone” inside Syrian territory.

Meanwhile, the US military said it struck more than 75 ISIS targets in Syria to prevent the terrorist group from taking advantage of the situation in the country.

Assad’s removal was met with jubilation by Syrians at home and abroad. In Damascus, rebels and civilians ransacked the former dictator’s palaces, with videos revealing Assad’s luxurious lifestyle and large car collection, including a Ferrari F50.

Mutharika Dismisses Rumors of Marital Strife Amidst Economic Challenges

0

In a decisive move to quell rumors that have been circulating on various social media platforms, President Arthur Peter Mutharika, the leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has publicly refuted claims of irreconcilable differences between him and his wife, Her Excellency Gertrude Mutharika.

The allegations, which have gained traction in recent days, were described as false and misleading in a press release issued by Shadrick Namalomba, the party’s spokesperson.

The timing of these rumors is particularly notable, as they emerge just few months before the highly anticipated elections scheduled for September, 2025.

The DPP, under Mutharika’s leadership, is positioning itself as a formidable contender in the electoral race, aiming to reclaim power amid a backdrop of economic challenges that have been attributed to the current administration led by the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

In the press release, Mutharika emphasized the importance of unity and resilience within his family and the party, stating that such baseless rumors are designed to distract the public from the pressing economic issues facing the nation. “These reports are not only unfounded but are also a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the real challenges that our people are facing,” Mutharika asserted. “As a family, we stand together, and as a party, we are focused on delivering solutions to the economic hardships that have been exacerbated by the current government.”

The DPP has been vocal in its criticism of the MCP’s handling of the economy, which has seen rising inflation, increased unemployment rates, and a general decline in living standards for many Malawians. Mutharika’s administration, which governed from 2014 until 2020, has been portrayed by party officials as a time of relative stability and growth, contrasting sharply with the current economic climate.

The DPP is leveraging this narrative as it campaigns for a return to power, promising to restore economic stability and improve the livelihoods of ordinary citizens.

Mutharika’s press release also highlighted the importance of focusing on substantive issues rather than engaging in gossip and speculation. “As we approach the elections, it is crucial that we engage in meaningful discussions about the future of our country,” he stated. “We must prioritize the needs of our people and work together to find solutions to the challenges we face.”

The allegations of marital discord have not only drawn the ire of Mutharika but have also sparked a broader conversation about the role of social media in shaping public perception.

In an age where information spreads rapidly, the potential for misinformation to influence political discourse is a growing concern.

Mutharika’s response serves as a reminder of the need for responsible communication and the importance of verifying information before sharing it.

Political analysts have noted that the DPP’s strategy in addressing these rumors is indicative of a larger trend in Malawian politics, where personal attacks and character assassination have become common tactics employed by rival parties.

As the election date approaches, it is expected that both the DPP and MCP will intensify their campaigns, with each party seeking to sway public opinion in their favor.

In the wake of the press release, supporters of the DPP have rallied around Mutharika, expressing their solidarity and commitment to the party’s vision for Malawi.

Social media platforms have been flooded with messages of support, with many party loyalists condemning the rumors as an attempt to undermine the DPP’s electoral prospects. “We believe in our leader and his vision for a better Malawi,” one supporter comme…

Chamisa tells Harare Commission of Inquiry to summon Mnangagwa

0

Former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has called for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to appear before the Commission of Inquiry amid allegations linking his name to corruption in Harare’s land regularisation process.

Chamisa made the demand during his appearance before the Commission on Monday. The inquiry, led by retired Justice Cheda, is investigating the operations of the Harare City Council since 2017. Chamisa was summoned after CCC councillor Blessing Duma alleged that Chamisa had directed the City to regularise settlements.

Chamisa refuted the claims during questioning by evidence leader Thabani Mpofu, maintaining that he had no involvement in issuing directives to councillors.

“Well, I did hear. It is not true in the sense that, first of all, when I listen, there are two names that have been dropped in terms of their leadership roles: President Mnangagwa and President Chamisa. I hope the Commission is also going to tell him to come,” Chamisa remarked.

He emphasized that during his tenure as CCC leader, he avoided interfering with council operations.

“I can tell you as a man of God, that is not true. I do not address caucuses. I would never address a few people like the councillors mentioned. If I were to address, I would address maybe the entire group of people. But what is clear is that whatever [Councillor Duma] was saying, he can justify before the Commission,” Chamisa said.

The regularisation of settlements in Harare has been marred by allegations of corruption, with some councillors accused of collaborating with land barons to allocate and formalise illegal settlements. This practice has fueled the proliferation of unapproved housing developments, leading to widespread criticism.

Chamisa distanced himself from these activities and expressed concern over the demolition of houses, which he described as unjust and illegal.

“What I am aware of is that people’s houses were being destroyed, and I had difficulties understanding why a whole council would destroy people’s houses when they had initially allowed them to construct those houses,” Chamisa explained.

He further underscored his commitment to justice and the rule of law, stating, “I believe in the protection of property rights and individuals. Naturally, I would have problems with any kind of dispossession where people’s houses were destroyed.”

Chamisa’s demand for Mnangagwa’s appearance signals a broader push for accountability in the ongoing inquiry. With both political and legal implications, the Commission’s findings are expected to shed light on longstanding issues of corruption and governance within Harare’s municipal operations.

person of interest has been arrested in the fatal sho0ting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson

0

A person of interest has been arrested in the fatal sho0ting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The man allegedly had a manifesto on him when he was taken into custody by cops in Altoona, Pa. He also had a gun, silencer, four fake IDs, and other items “consistent” with what authorities were looking for in the case, sources said.

Law enforcement was still trying to figure out the man’s real identity, sources said. He was nabbed on a tip called into local cops, who apprehended him, sources said.

The bust came amid a massive manhunt for the masked sho0ter who lay in wait outside the Hilton on Sixth Avenue where Thompson, 50, was set to speak at an investors’ conference Wednesday morning.

The chillingly efficient gunman snuck up behind Thompson on the sidewalk, pulled out what appeared to be a handgun with a silencer, and calmly unloaded multiple sh0ts at the CEO’s back, shocking surveillance footage showed.

Thompson dropped to the ground after he was hit in the back and right calf, with the gunman quickly running off before grabbing an e-bike and riding away.

Thompson was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced de@d.

The execution prompted a massive manhunt and a steady drip of sometimes bizarre clues and revelations.

The shooter’s bullets found at the scene appeared to have the words “deny,” “depose” and “defend” written on them, a potential message from the killer that echoed the title of a book condemning the health care insurance industry’s practice of not paying claims.

Video uncovered during the investigation also revealed the suspected killer’s smiling face, as well as his potential connection to an Upper West Side hostel, where he is believed to have stayed before the murder.

A motive wasn’t immediately known.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch has told reporters that the shooter intentionally targeted Thompson, a father of two sons, whose wife said had been the target of recent threats over his job as witnesses milled around the hotel.

“Many people passed the suspect, but he appeared to wait for his intended target,” she said.

It is not immediately clear if anyone has claimed the $10,000 reward offered by the NYPD and CrimeStoppers.

Thompson’s wife, Paulette “Pauley” Thompson, 51, said that before the sho0ting, the family had received threats relating to her husband’s job leading America’s largest private insurer, NBC News reports.

ZAMBIA’S TOURISM INDUSTRY UNDER SIEGE: Police Misconduct at Roadblocks Destroying the Nation’s Reputation

ZAMBIA’S TOURISM INDUSTRY UNDER SIEGE: Police Misconduct at Roadblocks Destroying the Nation’s Reputation

Zambia, a nation blessed with unparalleled natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, is at risk of losing its standing as a premier tourist destination. The reason? A chronic and systemic issue that has gone unchecked for far too long: police misconduct.

What should be a journey filled with wonder for tourists often turns into a nightmare of extortion and harassment at the hands of some members of the Zambia Police Service. This unacceptable behavior is not only tarnishing Zambia’s image but also threatening the very future of its tourism industry.

Every traveler’s experience in Zambia seems to come with one inevitable pitstop: roadblocks. Intended as a safety measure, these checkpoints have devolved into hubs of extortion, where some police officers exploit both local and international tourists. Stories abound of tourists being detained for hours, asked intrusive and irrelevant questions, and, most alarmingly, forced to part with large sums of money to avoid further harassment.

Yusuf Zumla, Chairman of the Tourism Council of Zambia, recently highlighted a particularly egregious case near Kazungula, where seventeen tourists were stopped, harassed, and extorted for bribes before being released after a day-long ordeal. Their crime? Simply traveling through Zambia. These visitors, humiliated and frustrated, vowed never to return—a sentiment that echoes across countless social media posts and travel forums.

Tourism is a vital pillar of Zambia’s economy. The sector is projected to bring in 2,000,000 visitors this year, contributing billions of kwacha in revenue. Yet, these gains are at risk of being undone by a few rogue officers whose actions are causing irreparable damage. According to Yusuf Zumla, police misconduct could cost the nation up to $250 million annually in lost revenue.

The ripple effects of these losses are staggering. Hotels, lodges, tour operators, and local artisans all stand to suffer as Zambia’s reputation as a “friendly” destination erodes. Moreover, the loss of foreign exchange earnings threatens broader economic stability, with fewer jobs and opportunities in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

What enables such blatant misconduct to persist? A culture of impunity within the Zambia Police Service. Officers involved in extortion are rarely held accountable, and complaints from victims often go unaddressed. Mechanisms for reporting misconduct are either inaccessible or ineffective, with some tourists recounting how their grievances were ignored or, worse, met with further intimidation.

Even more troubling is the deliberate concealment of service numbers by some officers, making it nearly impossible to identify and report wrongdoers. This systemic failure not only emboldens corrupt officers but also sends a clear message: tourists are easy targets. Yusuf adds

The damage isn’t confined to the nation’s borders. The widespread use of social media means that every negative experience is amplified, reaching potential tourists worldwide. Once known as the “Warm Heart of Africa,” Zambia now risks becoming synonymous with corruption and harassment.

Compounding this issue is the fierce competition from neighboring countries like Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Kenya, which have successfully positioned themselves as tourist-friendly destinations. Zambia cannot afford to lose its competitive edge, yet that is precisely what’s happening as word spreads of the mistreatment tourists face on its roads.

The solutions to this crisis are neither new nor complicated. The Tourism Council of Zambia, led by Yusuf Zumla, has repeatedly called for:
– Mandatory Training for Police Officers: Sensitization programs on tourism’s economic importance, customer service, and human rights.
– Tourism Police Units: Specialized teams trained to address tourist-related concerns.
– Accountability Mechanisms: Transparent and accessible systems for tourists to report misconduct.
– Reduction of Roadblocks: Limiting checkpoints to strategic locations and ensuring they serve genuine safety purposes.

Despite these recommendations, progress has been painfully slow. Meetings with the Ministry of Home Affairs and other stakeholders have yielded little more than empty promises. The lack of urgency is not only baffling but infuriating, given what is at stake.

Zambia’s tourism industry is at a tipping point. The question is no longer whether police misconduct will hurt the sector but how much damage will be done before decisive action is taken. The government must move beyond lip service and implement meaningful reforms. Failure to do so risks turning Zambia into a cautionary tale of squandered potential.

For now, tourists continue to face harassment at roadblocks, and Zambia’s reputation continues to plummet. The time for excuses has long passed. It’s time for action—bold, swift, and uncompromising. Anything less is a betrayal of Zambia’s promise as one of Africa’s top tourist destinations.

LAURA MITI DENIED ENTRY IN ETHIOPIA

LAURA MITI DENIED ENTRY IN ETHIOPIA

Civil Society activist Laura Miti has been denied entry into Ethiopia over her failure to produce a valid visa payment.

Miti had travelled to Ethiopia on Sunday to attend a human commission rights conference.

However airport authorities at Bole International demanded for proof that she had paid for the visa.

Miti produced a receipt for online payment which could not be authenticated.

She spent a night at the airport and when the matter could not be resolved in the morning, she chose to return to Zambia than pay another $75.

Below is her story posted on her Facebook Page.

Mvelankoni travel drama, the kind a hacker would tell.

Arrived in Ethiopia, this evening, for a Human Rights Commission workshop.

Their immigration has refused to accept the receipt for the visa payment I made online.

First, they say I must pay again. Was not happy with that because I am broke.

Anyway, turns out paying would not help because they asked for a letter from their Immigration endorsing the invitation. The letter must be in their language.

I don’t have that letter. They  say – you will sleep here. Not a care. I guess it’s something they do often to people.

Elo, I had said that the Ethiopian visa was best paid for on arrival, because online did not work for me last time. The organisers, however, insisted to the HRC Secretariat that participants pay online.

They promised they would be at the airport to ensure smooth entry
Well, all their phones are off.

So here’s me – pa chair nakatenge for the night.

Ungayewe natuma lodge tuja twaku rural Zambia, twamene nimanene.

Not following up on the visa thing. Nilinakwatu. The way I appreciated my bed while trying to get some kind of comfortable on a chair last night! Nati mwandi I have stopped taking you for granted.

Queued up for change of ticket as soon as Ethiopian Airways opened their desk. They wanted me to pay a penalty to change my ticket to today.

Then, when they consulted their manager, he happened to have lived in Zambia, Ndola, for 4 years.

He said- to me  Zambians are nice people – then instructed the lady to find me a seat at no cost.

Mwaona ka – our goodness is not wasted.

JAY-Z ACCUSED WITH DIDDY IN LAWSUIT OF RAPING GIRL, 13, IN 2000

JAY-Z ACCUSED WITH DIDDY IN LAWSUIT OF RAPING GIRL, 13, IN 2000

US rapper Jay-Z has hit back at a lawsuit which alleges that he, along with Sean “Diddy” Combs, drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl at a party in 2000.

The anonymous accuser alleges she was assaulted at a house party after the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York and that an unnamed female celebrity was in the room at the time.

In a statement, Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, dismissed the legal action as a “blackmail attempt”.

Mr Combs – who is in jail awaiting trial after being charged in September with sex-trafficking and other offences – denied the latest accusation.

The lawsuit was originally filed in October, and was refiled on Sunday to list Mr Carter as a defendant.

The BBC has contacted Mr Carter’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, and his publicist for comment.

The legal action was filed under New York’s Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Protection Act, by a Texas-based lawyer, Tony Buzbee.

Mr Buzbee has filed several lawsuits in recent months accusing Mr Combs of assault and rape. The hip-hop artist is due to face a criminal trial on 5 May.

Mr Carter said in a statement posted to social media: “My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee.

“What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make me want to settle.

“No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!”

A statement from Mr Combs’s legal team said this amended lawsuit was the latest in a series of “shameless publicity stunts, designed to extract payments from celebrities who fear having lies spread about them, just as lies have been spread about Mr Combs”.

The statement said that the judicial process would show Mr Combs to be innocent of all the allegations against him. He faces 30 other lawsuits.

The accuser in Sunday’s legal filing, who is identified only as “Jane Doe”, said that in 2000, when she was 13, a friend dropped her off at the VMAs at Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan.

She approached limousine drivers outside the venue to try to gain access to the show, according to the legal action.

One driver told her that he was employed by Mr Combs and that she “fit what Diddy was looking for”, says the lawsuit.

Later that evening the chauffeur drove her to a party at a white house, according to the legal action. [BBC News]

PRESIDENT LUNGU MADE THIS BED HE SHOULD BE READY TO LAY IN IT- McPherson Mutale

PRESIDENT LUNGU MADE THIS BED HE SHOULD BE READY TO LAY IN IT.

“The impending Constitutional Court ruling on December 10, 2024, regarding the eligibility of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has ignited a deeply polarized and highly charged national debate. The emotive and divisive discourse surrounding this matter underscores the fragile state of Zambia’s democracy and the inherent risks of judicial politicization.

Both proponents and opponents of Mr. Lungu’s potential candidacy have entrenched themselves in hardline positions, invoking prior Constitutional Court decisions, such as the Dan Pule, Bampi Kapalasa, and Legal Resources Foundation cases, to bolster their arguments. However, these debates often miss the larger picture: the perilous precedent of subordinating the judiciary to political machinations.

Zambia’s judiciary, purportedly an independent arbiter of justice, has long been shackled by the overbearing influence of the executive. Judges are appointed by the president and ratified by a parliament often dominated by the ruling party, creating an inherent conflict of interest. This structural flaw undermines the judiciary’s capacity to serve as an impartial guardian of constitutionalism. The Dan Pule case (2018), which interpreted the contentious issue of term limits, is a glaring example of this subjugation.

The court ruled in favor of Mr. Lungu, declaring that his first term from 2015 to 2016, following the death of President Michael Sata, did not constitute a full term. While legally defensible within the narrow confines of the Constitution, this decision was politically expedient, paving the way for Mr. Lungu to contest in 2021.

Critics, including State Counsel John Sangwa, vehemently opposed this ruling, warning of its long-term ramifications. Sangwa argued that allowing Mr. Lungu to contest again would create a constitutional crisis, eroding public trust in the judiciary.

His prediction has now come to pass. Ironically, Sangwa’s current stance—calling for consistency from the court despite his earlier opposition—seem like a contradiction but it is not. Both parties to this debate now want Sangwa to say what they want to hear. This reflects the toxic politicization of legal discourse, where principles are sacrificed at the altar of political expediency.

The judiciary’s complicity in perpetuating this crisis cannot be overstated. By bending to executive pressure, the Constitutional Court effectively prioritized the political survival of an individual over the stability of the state. The court’s decision in the Dan Pule case was not a triumph of jurisprudence but a capitulation to political will.

Today, as the same court grapples with the question of Mr. Lungu’s eligibility, it finds itself ensnared in the very crisis it helped create. Any attempt to overturn or reinterpret its earlier rulings risks further eroding public confidence in the judiciary and inflaming political tensions.

The implications of this case extend far beyond Mr. Lungu’s political aspirations. They strike at the heart of Zambia’s constitutional democracy. The judiciary’s independence is the cornerstone of any democracy, and its erosion threatens the rule of law.

The UPND government, despite its rhetoric of reform, has shown similar tendencies to politicize the judiciary. This cycle of judicial capture—where each successive administration installs its loyalists—undermines the very foundation of democratic governance.

Mr. Lungu’s supporters argue that denying him the right to contest would violate his constitutional rights. This argument, while superficially appealing, ignores the broader context. The presidency is not a personal entitlement but a public trust.

The notion that Zambia’s stability hinges on one individual’s political ambitions is both dangerous and deeply flawed. Moreover, the threats of unrest from Mr. Lungu’s camp if he is barred from contesting are a direct challenge to the rule of law. Such rhetoric sets a dangerous precedent where political blackmail supersedes constitutionalism.

The judiciary must rise above these pressures and prioritize the nation’s long-term stability over short-term political considerations. Correcting the mistakes of the past will undoubtedly be painful, but delaying this reckoning will only compound the damage. The court’s primary allegiance should be to the Constitution and the Zambian people, not to the political elites who wield temporary power.

Mr. Lungu’s presidency was marked by significant controversy, from the brutal suppression of dissent to widespread allegations of corruption. His tenure exemplified the dangers of concentrating power in the executive.

The failed attempt to amend the Constitution through Bill 10, which sought to entrench presidential authority, was a stark reminder of the risks of unchecked power. Zambia cannot afford to return to this era of democratic backsliding.

If Mr. Lungu genuinely cares about Zambia’s future, he should step aside and allow new leaders to emerge. His insistence on returning to power not only deepens political divisions but also distracts from the urgent task of addressing the nation’s pressing challenges, including economic recovery and social cohesion.

Leadership is not about clinging to power; it is about fostering a legacy that transcends personal ambition. Mr. Lungu has an opportunity to play a constructive role as a mentor and advisor, guiding the next generation of leaders.

The December 10 ruling is not merely a legal determination; it is a litmus test for Zambia’s democracy. The judiciary must seize this moment to reaffirm its independence and restore public confidence.

The stakes are too high for business as usual. This is a time for courage, for justice, and for putting the nation’s interests above all else. Zambia deserves better than the perpetual cycle of political manipulation and judicial complicity. It is time to break free.”

Ne-Yo Hits Back At Polygamy Criticism In New Interview: “I Don’t Give AF”

Ne-Yo’s polygamy journey has received widespread media attention. The entertainer remains unapologetic about his choices despite mounting criticism. He addressed the controversy during a recent episode of the Gold Dimes podcast. Reflecting on the backlash that followed his public debut with two girlfriends earlier this year, he shared a candid perspective. “I need the world to know how much I don’t care about their opinions,” he declared. “This life is mine, and I’m living it the way I want.” Before the interview, the singer told TMZ, “You should let people do whatever they want to do. I can’t see how it’s hurting anybody.”

On Fox Soul’s Truth Talks, psychologist and life coach Dr. Cheyenne Bryant called Ne-Yo a “womanizer,” accusing him of using the guise of polyamory to justify his past infidelity.

“He cheated on his wife repeatedly. Now he’s gaslighting himself and others to make it seem like he’s always wanted this lifestyle,” she said, attributing his failed marriage to a lack of discipline. As criticism and debate continue, Ne-Yo remains steadfast in his decisions, focused on living life unapologetically on his terms. On the Gold Dimes, however, Ne-Yo’s tone was more defiant. The father of seven described his post-divorce self-discovery and newfound honesty. “It’s no secret I got divorced not too long ago,” he said. “That experience taught me things about myself I wasn’t fully aware of. I wasted so much time on stupid stuff.”

Crystal Renay, who finalized her divorce from Ne-Yo in February 2023 after nearly eight years of marriage, has largely refrained from engaging in the drama. Speaking on The Culture Club Uncensored, Renay admitted she felt blindsided by his infidelity and no longer recognized the man she once loved. “If it makes him happy, I’m happy for him,” she said, though she added she doesn’t understand his lifestyle.

Ne-Yo shares three children with Renay and has four others from previous relationships, including two with Sade Bagnerise, the woman he cheated with during his marriage. His current girlfriends, however, have no children with him.

Zanu-PF’s ruthless purge against team Chiwenga

                              0

A fierce internal power struggle is tearing through Zimbabwe’s ruling party, Zanu-PF, as suspensions and purges intensify against officials perceived to be opposing the party’s push to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s presidency beyond 2028. This conflict, which has intensified since the party’s October conference in Bulawayo, underscores the deepening fissures within Zanu-PF regarding succession and the controversial “2030 project.”

While the party officially endorsed a resolution in October to extend Mnangagwa’s term to 2030, the President has publicly stated he will not seek to extend his constitutionally mandated two terms. This apparent contradiction has fueled factionalism within the party, with some accusing key figures of attempting to sideline potential rivals in the race for Mnangagwa’s successor. The tension has become especially pronounced as the “2030 project” battles for dominance within the party.

At the heart of the internal conflict is Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, a prominent figure seen as a frontrunner in the succession race. Many believe that Chiwenga’s faction is the primary target of the ongoing purges. Those suspected of supporting him are facing accusations of disloyalty and being systematically removed from key positions.

Masvingo province, traditionally seen as a political stronghold for Zanu-PF, has become ground zero for the infighting. Tensions flared when Zanu-PF provincial executive member Simon Muchafa publicly criticized retired army general Engelbert Rugeje, accusing him of backing Chiwenga’s ambitions. In a viral audio recording, Muchafa declared that he would not support any presidential candidate from outside Masvingo, signaling his opposition to Chiwenga.

The fallout from Muchafa’s comments led to a series of purges within Masvingo, with over 10 provincial members issued with prohibition orders between Tuesday and Friday last week. Youth leader Brighton Mushekwa and Kudakwashe Gopo were among those targeted after they were accused by provincial leaders, including Masvingo provincial affairs minister Ezra Chadzamira, of supporting Chiwenga and taking money to oppose the 2030 project.

Despite Muchafa’s own inflammatory remarks, he has not faced any disciplinary action, raising questions about the consistency and fairness of the purge. Mushekwa confirmed that he had received a prohibition order and would be required to appear before a provincial disciplinary committee within 21 days.

The composition of this disciplinary committee has also raised eyebrows, with figures linked to the Chiwenga faction reportedly being sidelined. Among those excluded from the committee are Brighton Mahoya and Virginia Samson, further intensifying suspicions of bias within the purge process.

In other parts of the country, similar actions are being taken. In Chiredzi, individuals such as Israel Lunga, Levy Gumbo, and Felix Bangu have been removed from their positions. Suspensions have also been seen in Harare, where Emmanuel Juta was handed a prohibition order and faces a disciplinary hearing on December 11th.

The situation is rapidly escalating, with Zanu-PF’s internal divisions now spilling into public view. Former Masvingo provincial commissar Isaac Makomichi, who was suspended after releasing a recording critical of the 2030 initiative, defended his position. “You should not suspend someone for asking,” he said, questioning the legitimacy of the push for a term extension when the President himself had indicated his intention to retire in 2028.

The purge has also extended to Mashonaland East, where provincial minister Aplonia Munzverengi, Uzumba MP Wiriranai Muchemwa, and others associated with the so-called “Hwedza project” are expected to be targeted next.

The ongoing internal strife within Zanu-PF highlights the growing tensions over succession and the push for political control, with the “2030 project” serving as both a rallying cry for some and a symbol of deepening factionalism within the party. The political fallout from these suspensions and purges will likely continue to shape the future of Zanu-PF in the months leading up to the next election.

                              Dr Dre Net Worth 2024

From co-founding Death Row Records to the multi-billion dollar sale of Beats Electronics, explore the various factors that contribute to Dr. Dre’s impressive net worth.

Dr Dre, born Andre Romelle Young, is a renowned rapper, record producer, entrepreneur, and audio engineer, but what is the net worth of the Hip Hop legend in 2024? In this article, we’ll dive into the sources of Dr Dre’s fortune and the factors that contributed to his massive wealth.

                              Dr Dre Net Worth
With an impressive net worth of $500 million in 2024, according to Celebrity Net Worth, the NWA legend has created an outstanding career spanning over three decades.

Following his stint with World Class Wreckin’ Cru, Dr. Dre’s rise to fame came as a member of the influential and controversial hip-hop group N.W.A., which formed in 1987. As the group’s primary producer, Dre’s unique sound played a crucial role in their success. However, after departing from N.W.A. in 1991 due to financial disputes, Dre began his solo career, releasing his first album, The Chronic, in 1992. This album catapulted Dre to superstardom, selling millions of copies and solidifying his status as a top-tier hip-hop artist and producer.

Dr Dre’s entrepreneurship in the music industry is certainly a significant factor in his staggering net worth. In 1991, he co-founded Death Row Records with Suge Knight. The label quickly became a dominant force in the hip-hop scene, especially with artists like Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, and Dre himself on the roster. However, due to several controversies, Dre left the label in 1996 and founded Aftermath Entertainment. This venture further increased his wealth, as it allowed him to sign and produce for artists such as Eminem, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar.

In 2006, Dr Dre and record executive Jimmy Iovine founded Beats Electronics, a company specializing in audio products. Their flagship product, Beats by Dre headphones, gained immense popularity and eventually, became a cultural phenomenon. The company expanded its product line to include speakers and other audio equipment. In 2014, Apple acquired Beats Electronics for a staggering $3 billion, making it one of the most significant acquisitions in Apple’s history. This deal significantly boosted Dr Dre’s net worth, putting him closer to billionaire status.

Dr Dre’s involvement in film and television has also contributed to his wealth. In 2015, he produced the critically acclaimed biographical film Straight Outta Compton, which depicted the rise and fall of N.W.A. The movie grossed over $200 million worldwide, further padding Dre’s fortune. Additionally, he has been involved in television projects such as the HBO documentary series The Defiant Ones and the Apple TV+ series Vital Signs, which was later shelved.

Dr Dre’s real estate portfolio includes several luxurious properties in Los Angeles and Malibu. He has also engaged in profitable real estate transactions, such as selling his Hollywood Hills home for $32 million in 2015. Dre’s various endorsement deals, including collaborations with brands like Chrysler and Coors Light, have also contributed to his net worth.

Marcel Desailly is ‘set for court amid ongoing paternity row over 10-year-old daughter he has refused to acknowledge

                              0

French football legend, Marcel Desailly is ‘set for court amid ongoing paternity row over 10-year-old daughter he has refused to acknowledge.

Desailly and his ex-partner, Cosma Batista de Alcantara are due at the Paris judicial court on Tuesday amid an ongoing case to confirm whether he is the biological father of his ex-partner’s daughter, Victoria.

French outlet Le Parisien claims that Desailly has refused to acknowledge Victoria as his own since 2021, though he was reportedly ordered to take a paternity test in March.

However, a DNA test has in fact confirmed that he is the father of the child, and as such could be forced to pay alimony of around £4,148 (€5,000) each month to Batista de Alcantara, who he was with between 2010 and 2018.

The only issue is that according to the same French publication, Desailly is ‘almost ruined’ financially, and as per the outlet, he says he is unable to pay the money.

It claims that the former Chelsea and AC Milan, who previously earned around £7,100-a-month (€8600) from beIN as a pundit until the end of August – is currently repaying around £4,148 each month to the government as part of a tax adjustment.

He has reportedly done so since 2022, after being sanctioned for evading income tax between 2011 and 2019, and as such pays the fee to the French tax authorities monthly.

Le Parisien also states that the 1998 World Cup winner was forced to sell off assets in order to pay alimony to his other four children with Virginie Desailly, as well as a fifth child, Aida, who he also refused to acknowledge as biologically his.

Yet Batista de Alcantara is seemingly not convinced of her former partner’s financial situation, as she revealed to Le Parisien.

‘Since I have known him, he has always claimed that he did not have a penny,’ she admitted. ‘The only thing that changed is that at the time, I believed him.

‘He kept telling me that we were going to move into an apartment that he owned on rue de la Paix in Paris, and we never lived there.’

Le Parisien also claims to have seen ‘accounting documents’ which attest that the legendary former defender has not received dividends from companies based in France or Ghana since 2009.

His lawyer, Francoise Majnoni d’Intignano reportedly claims her client is not ‘a wealthy footballer and businessman, as Ms. Batista de Alcantara tries to make people believe.’

They added: ‘His professional future is most uncertain [having] no prospect of a new contract [with beIN Sports].’

According to reports, Desailly met Batista de Alcantara in 2010 in Paris while he was still married to Virginie, and that they would meet ‘a few more times’ before moving in together in an apartment on Rue de la Pompe in Paris.

Batista de Alcantara gave birth to Victoria in March 2014, and she told Le Parisien that her child ‘doesn’t understand why he (Desailly) doesn’t call her anymore,’ and that ‘she suffers, and I’m sad for her.’

She claims that Desailly has sent money for Victoria in the past, though this was allegedly not sufficient to cover the costs of the child’s tuition at a French school in Spain, where she lives.

Bashar Al-Assad granted asylum in Russia

                              0

Syria’s former President Bashar al-Assad is in Moscow with his family after Russia granted them asylum on humanitarian grounds, a Kremlin source told Russian news agencies on Sunday, December 8, adding that a deal has been done to ensure the safety of Russian military bases, including a strategically important naval facility in Tartous.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said earlier, that Assad had left Syria and given ‘orders’ for a peaceful transfer of power, after rebel fighters raced into Damascus unopposed on Sunday, ending nearly six decades of his family’s iron-fisted rule.

“Syrian President Assad of Syria and members of his family have arrived in Moscow. Russia has granted them asylum on humanitarian grounds,” the Interfax news agency quoted the unnamed Kremlin source as saying.

It cited the same source as saying Russia favoured a political solution to the crisis in Syria, where Moscow supported Assad during the country’s long civil war.

The source said negotiations should be resumed under the auspices of the United Nations.

Syrian opposition leaders had agreed to guarantee the safety of Russian military bases and diplomatic institutions in Syria, the source told news agencies.

Russia, a staunch backer of Assad whom it intervened to help in 2015 in its biggest Middle East foray since the Soviet collapse, is scrambling to salvage its position with its geopolitical clout in the wider region and two strategically-important military bases in Syria on the line.

A deal to secure Russia’s Hmeimim air base in Syria’s Latakia province and its naval facility at Tartous on the coast would come as a relief to Moscow after warnings that the bases were dangerously exposed.

The Tartous facility is Russia’s only Mediterranean repair and replenishment hub, and Moscow has used Syria as a staging post to fly its military contractors in and out of Africa.

Losing Tartous would be a serious blow to Russia’s ability to project power in the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Africa, according to Western military analysts.

Earlier on Sunday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the two military facilities had been put on a state of high alert, but played down an immediate risk to them.

“There is currently no serious threat to their security,” the ministry said as it announced Assad’s departure from office and from Syria.

“As a result of negotiations between B. Assad and a number of participants in the armed conflict on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, he decided to resign from the presidency and left the country, giving instructions for a peaceful transfer of power,” it said in the statement. “Russia did not participate in these negotiations.”

There were unconfirmed media reports that Assad had been visiting Moscow, where his elder son studied, when rebels reached Aleppo late last month, before returning to Syria. .

The Syrian flag was removed on Sunday from a pole outside the country’s embassy in Moscow, Reuters reporters observed. TASS quoted embassy staff as saying the embassy would operate as normal on Monday.

It’s not right for a Christian nation to have quarrels, conflicts everyday – Hichilema

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says it is a contradiction for a country declared to be a Christian nation to have quarrels and conflicts on baseless issues everyday.

                              https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15GRf24tZ9/?mibextid=oFDknk

Officiating at the Mass Ordination and Commissioning Service of the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ) in Kamwala yesterday, President Hichilema called on the church to actively be involved in preaching unity, peace and love across the country.

“Is it not a contradiction that in a country we declared and have returned as a Christian nation, we are allowing quarrels, conflict even on baseless issues to take the order of the day?” he wondered.

“The church should pray for love and tolerance and be actively involved in preaching peace, love and unity in our country.”

The President asked the church and the nation at large to pray for a good rainfall pattern for this season.

President Hichilema also stressed the importance of family which he described as the foundation of everything in a nation.

The Head of State encouraged the congregants and newly ordained reverends to get it right first at family level and get it right at the national level.

“Family is very important. If we get it right at the family level then we will be okay as a nation,” stated President Hichilema.

He also reiterated his caution against public sector workers to separate personal resources from public resources.

“We are here to serve, I tell my cabinet, we must not just say so but we must live it. Even when there’s no media watching us there’s God watching us. People must be proud when they see us that there goes a public servant,” he said.

And RCZ Synod moderator Reverend Ackson Banda prayed that God should grant President Hichilema with more wisdom and resilience to lead the nation.

“As a church, we are praying that the Lord may give you more wisdom understanding and tenacity as you discharge your duties as president of this great nation,” prayed Rev Banda.

STATE HOUSE HITS BACK AT KBF CALLING HH A LIAR FROM THE VILLAGE, WAKASO

Kelvin Bwalya Fube in a video circulating from a Television interview said President Hakainde Hichilema was a born liar, wabufi.

KBF commonly referred to by his name initials said he wonders how Hichilema a Villager would be such a liar. He said Villagers are known to be truthful.

The Lusaka Lawyer turned politicians who heads a political movement called Zambia Must Prosper and worked with Hichilema in an electoral pact in 2021 says he knows the man from Bweengwa very well.

KBF who himself hails from Mufulira on the Copperbelt province says Hichilema lies as though he hails from there (kopala).

But State House says KBF has no respect for the over 50 percent population of Zambians who hail from the rural areas.

State House Communication Specialist Clayson Hamasaka a former Media trainer who communicates for Hichilema has authored the following reaction.

Kelvin Bwalya Fube (KBF), leader of the ‘Zambia Must Prosper’ Movement, has recently stirred controversy with remarks that many Zambians found demeaning to rural communities, who constitute more than 50 percent of our population.

In the recent interviews, KBF sought to belittle President Hakainde Hichilema by highlighting his upbringing in a village, implying that urban origins, like his own from Mufulira, make one more deserving of leadership.

On the other hand, President Hakainde Hichilema has been very proud of his rural upbringing as an example of what free education policy can prove to be the best equaliser for all citizens.

KBF further disparaged President Hichilema as “wakaso” (stingy), suggesting that generosity involves handing out free money without accountability. Such rhetoric not only oversimplifies economic principles but also perpetuates a distorted view of leadership and development. If free giveaways truly built wealth, global economies would collapse under the weight of such misguided theories.

In fact, under his leadership, President Hichilema has even been more generous by broadening beneficiaries under Social Cash Transfers, introduction of bursary for a public universities, students meal allowances, increased CDF, Cash for Work as opposed to ‘Tantamene’ (free handouts by politicians to citizens) and many other government programmes.

KBF’s comments reflect a broader trend among some opposition leaders who seem out of touch with the values and contributions of Zambia’s rural communities. Labeling President Hichilema as “just a villager” insults not only him but also the countless Zambians who hail from rural areas. Villages have been the cultural and moral backbone of Zambia, producing some of Africa’s greatest leaders, thinkers, writers and activists.

Historically, rural areas have served as hubs of tradition, resilience, and hard work. They have nurtured leaders like Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah, and Dr. Kenneth Kaunda—icons who proved that one’s birthplace does not define their potential. Zambia’s rural communities have also been critical in the fight for independence and the preservation of cultural values, a fact that KBF seems to overlook in his elitist narrative.

Ironically, KBF’s own lineage likely traces back to a village, despite his urban upbringing. His attempt to stereotype rural areas as inferior reveals a troubling elitism and a lack of respect for the majority of Zambians who contribute to the country’s progress from rural settings. KBF is obviously not aware that the majority producers of the food we consume in urban areas are the peasant farmers in our villages.

In Nations such as Botswana, citizens trek back into their villages every weekend to tend to their flocks and till the land. President Hichilema has often encouraged Zambians to invest in their villages by building houses and other infrastructure.

Moreover, while President Hichilema exemplifies leadership and family values, raising accomplished children, KBF faces allegations of his children being involved in drug-related misconduct abroad. This glaring contrast raises serious questions about his credibility and character as a leader.

Zambians deserve leaders who honor their diverse backgrounds and recognize the dignity of every individual, regardless of their origins. To dismiss the contributions of villagers is to deny Zambia’s cultural heritage and the foundation of its independence.

As the Bemba saying goes, “Bamudala ba KBF tekanyeni”—let KBF’s elders remind him of the importance of respecting all people, including those from villages. Elitism has no place in Zambia’s leadership, and those who seek to divide the nation based on rural or urban origins must be called out for their harmful rhetoric.

WILL THE  2021 ELECTION BE CANCELLED

WILL THE  2021 ELECTION BE CANCELLED?

As the date for the landmark judgement on Tuesday, 10th December 2024 approaches, the debate is heating up.

There are legal views being advanced by those on the side of former president Edgar Lungu whose eligibility will be decided for elections in 2021 and future elections, that if the Constitutional ruled against him then the 2021 elections will be cancelled.

However Trywell Mudryk Phiri Snr has a different view:

Nathan Banda CONFRONTING THE NARRATIVE THAT THE 2021 ELECTION RESULTS WILL BE CANCELLED IF ECL IS DECLARED NOT ELIGIBLE.
                              _________________________________________________
As we await the landmark judgment by the Constitutional Court on the eligibility of former President Edgar Lungu, it is clear that the upcoming judgment has ignited intense debate among our citizens. Some suggest that a ruling of ineligibility for the former President would automatically nullify the 2021 presidential election results.

The false narrative circulating about the ECL eligibility judgment suggests that if former President Edgar Lungu is declared ineligible, the 2021 presidential election results would be nullified, and power would be handed back to him. This narrative claims that fresh elections would be called within 90 days, potentially plunging the country into uncertainty and instability.

However, this narrative is misleading. Zambia’s electoral laws and constitutional framework, and the natural laws of justice do not seem to support such a drastic outcome.

A football analogy would better illustrate this point.  Whenever a team uses an ineligible player, it is only  the offending team that faces sanctions, such as forfeiting the match or being disqualified. The innocent team isn’t punished or made to go back and play the same match in which their opponent used an ineligible player.

I can cite some Real-life examples to support this perspective:

                              Kenyan Football Federation Ban

In 2018, the Kenyan football federation was banned from international competitions for two years after using an ineligible player.

                              JS Kabylie Disqualification:

In 2020, JS Kabylie was disqualified from the CAF Champions League for fielding an ineligible player.

                              Zambia National Team Benefit:

In 2011, Zambia benefited from a similar situation when the Football Association of Zambia successfully protested against Nigeria’s use of an ineligible player.

In each case, the offending parties faced consequences, while innocent parties benefited from the correct application of rules.

In fact, it appears that in the event that the courts declare the former President ineligible, the only reason why the Patriotic Front may not be punished by being sanctioned from participating in the next election or by docking of the massive 1.8 Million votes which they received in the last election is purely on the basis that the real gate keepers in this matter remain the courts themselves, and the Electoral Commision of Zambia who declared the candidate as eligible. This proves that only the courts can make a determination over such an important matter

As we await the Constitutional Court’s judgment, therefore, it is important to remember that justice can not reward the offender and at the same time, punish, the innocent party.

It must be made very clear that the only two outcomes likely to come out of this Judgement are either :

                              A. The Constitutional Court will uphold its earlier Position and therefore rule that Former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu was eligible to run for Office in 2021 based on the fact that his first term in office did not constitute a full term, and also declare him so for the election in 2026, or:

                              B. They may depart from their earlier position and stand on other relevant provisions of the law that deal directly with eligibility for Presidential Office and declare that he was not eligible to run for office then, and that he is not eligible to run for office in 2026, having served and held office twice already.

There will be NO cancelation of the 2021 election results, there will be NO fresh elections to be called within 90 days, and there will be NO handover of power back to ECL in either of these two outcomes. This is a narrative crafted by propagandists whose aim is to create anxiety and possible anarchy in the nation if the courts decide to rule against their preferred outcome.

The judgment is scheduled to be delivered on December 10, 2024, and will be broadcast live on ZNBC and other independent broadcasters. I would like to urge all Zambians to wait patiently for the competent courts to make their determination, and to respect the Court Judgement regardless of whether they choose to uphold their earlier position or to depart from it. That is what the rule of law entails.

                              I thank you.

CAN A CONSTITUTIONAL  OR SUPREME COURT REVIEW ITS OWN JUDGMENTS?- Saviour Chishimba

                              0

CAN A CONSTITUTIONAL  OR SUPREME COURT REVIEW ITS OWN JUDGMENTS?

The powers of the Supreme Court to review its own judgements may be expressly elaborated in a Constitution of a country. This of course has to be read with the provisions of any law made by Parliament or any rule made under the supreme law of the land. In the absence of express provisions, the Court may still have implied powers.

To be sure, review is not rehearing of the appeal all over again. Reviewing of a judgment is done by the Supreme Court only when some serious injustice could be seen in the judgment after it has been passed. The power of review can be exercised for correction of a mistake and not to substitute a view. However, the injustice should be really apparent and shouldn’t have contradictory opinions. The reason is in itself that if there could be two viewpoints in a case, the mistake is not that glaring or serious. Such a situation is not absolute or really obvious. So there wouldn’t naturally be a ground for “review”. The normal rule is that the judgment by the Supreme Court is final. A departure from the principle can be justified only when circumstances of a substantial and compelling character makes it necessary to do so.

Review v Appeal: Scope of the Power

The power of review is distinct from the Court’s power to hear appeals, i.e. the appellate jurisdiction. When hearing a review petition filed against its own order or judgment, the Court does not rehear the case at hand, as it would in an appeal. The purpose of a review petition is limited to remedying an apparent error or the resultant grave injustice that has been the consequence of a decision of the Supreme Court. The Court is thus restricted in the exercise of the power of review to cases where there is an error apparent on the face of the record.

In Northern India Caterers (India) v Lt. Governor Of Delhi (1979) wherein the Court held that “a party is not entitled to seek a review  of a judgment delivered  by this Court merely for the purpose of a rehearing and a fresh decision in the case. Normally the  principle is that a judgment pronounced by the Court  is final  and departure  from  that  principle  is justified only when  circumstances  of  a  substantial  and compelling character  make it  necessary to  do so.  If  the attention of  the Court is not drawn to a material statutory provision during  the original hearing the Court will review its judgment.  The Court  may also  reopen its judgment if a manifest wrong has been done and it is necessary to pass an order to do full and effective justice.”

The power to review its own decisions is not an inherent power of the Supreme Court, but a protective measure against the fallibility of the apex institution of the judiciary so as to ensure the delivery of justice. It must therefore be exercised in a limited manner.

Instances of Reviews in the Commonwealth Jurisdictions

In Subhash Kashinath Mahajan v The State of Maharashtra, a two Judge Bench decided to do away with the bar on grant of anticipatory bails in cases of atrocities and further laid down guidelines for the purpose of making arrests under the Act. In view of the resultant public outcry, the concerned parties approached the Supreme Court seeking review of its decision in Subhash Kashinath Mahajan. The review petition was heard and admitted by the Court and is currently pending.

                              Conclusion

The Supreme Court has power to disapprove its own decisions where: too rigid adherence to precedent may lead to injustice in a particular case and also unduly restrict the proper development of the law (see 1 WLR 1234, 1966). The default rule, however, favours the status quo. The court will be “very circumspect” before accepting an invitation to review.

A case is only authority for what it actually decides: Lord Halsbury in LC Quinn v Leathem [1901] UKHL 2. A case is not authority for corollaries which may seem apparent or logical.

My personal note: the quality of debates on national matters in our nation is pathetically below par. Misinformation can cause unnecessary mayhem. It’s better not to comment when you are not an authority on national issues at hand. Giving examples on football teams in an attempt to explain or give opinions on serious matters of law shows the low calibre of leadership on both sides of the divide. There are more serious and urgent issues that we must be concentrating on now as a nation – electricity crisis, high cost of living, unemployment, etc. We cannot reduce the debate and the future of our nation to a few selfish individuals. Our nation needs  authentic saviours to reclaim our lost glory.

Demanding Substance Over Rhetoric: Zambia’s Urgent Need for Sustainable Solutions

                              By Sunday Chilufya Chanda

As Zambia grapples with a rapidly changing socio-economic landscape, it is clear that the era of political theatrics must give way to an era of pragmatic, issue-based leadership at Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government levels. Citizens must demand better from politicians, not just slogans and promises, but substance, foresight, and a commitment to sustainable development.

The challenges Zambia faces are immense, but they are not insurmountable. They require leaders with the courage to think beyond election cycles and the humility to listen to the people they serve. As 2026 approaches, it is time for Zambians to raise the bar and insist on leaders who bring more than charisma to the table. We need leaders with a clear plan, measurable goals, and the resolve to confront the root causes of our national challenges.

                              1. Economic Diversification: From Rhetoric to Reality

For decades, Zambia has spoken of diversifying its economy from copper dependence to agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing. Yet, the reality remains that copper still accounts for over 70% of export earnings. This over-reliance on a single commodity exposes the country to the volatility of global copper prices.

                              The Solution:

Diversification requires a deliberate, well-funded industrialization strategy. Zambia must create value chains around its natural endowments. For example:

                              • Agriculture:

Agro-processing centers should be established in rural areas to add value to raw produce. This will create jobs, reduce post-harvest losses, and boost exports.

                              • Tourism:

Beyond Victoria Falls, Zambia has an untapped treasure trove of natural wonders. The development of tourism infrastructure, especially in rural districts, could make Zambia a prime destination for eco-tourism.

                              • Manufacturing:

Policies must incentivize local manufacturing. A country that produces its own fertilizers, machinery, and everyday goods is more resilient to external shocks.

                              2. Youth Unemployment: A Ticking Time Bomb

With over 70% of Zambia’s population under the age of 35, youth unemployment poses a serious threat to social cohesion. Each year, thousands of graduates join the labor market with few formal jobs available. The informal sector is overburdened, and disillusionment among young people is growing.

                              The Solution:

Youth unemployment requires structural changes in the education system, industrial policy, and entrepreneurial support. Key interventions include:

                              • Skills Development:

Establish skills training centres in every district, offering practical training in trades such as carpentry, plumbing, mechanics, and modern agriculture.

                              • Business Support:

Increase access to capital for youth-led startups. Instead of merely handing out loans, support young people with mentorship, incubation hubs, and market access.

                              • Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs):

Encourage the private sector to play a bigger role in job creation. Policies must be put in place to incentivize companies that hire youth or provide apprenticeships.

                              3. Rural Development: A Matter of National Urgency

For too long, rural areas have been neglected in Zambia’s development agenda. While urban centers receive most of the infrastructure and investment, the rural heartland, which produces the bulk of the nation’s food remains underdeveloped. Poor roads, inadequate healthcare, and limited access to electricity hinder the potential of rural Zambia.

                              The Solution:

Rural development should be the new frontier of Zambia’s development agenda. This requires:

                              • Infrastructure Investment: Feeder roads, bridges, mini-hospitals, and modern markets must be prioritized in rural districts. Improved connectivity will unlock rural economic potential and reduce rural-urban migration.

                              • Rural Electrification: Providing electricity to rural areas will unlock opportunities for agro-processing, cottage industries, and improved healthcare delivery. Solar energy should play a pivotal role.

                              • Agricultural Mechanization: Agriculture remains the backbone of Zambia’s economy, but many smallholder farmers still rely on outdated tools. Access to tractors, irrigation equipment, and modern inputs must be prioritized.

                              4. Debt Sustainability: Break the Cycle of Borrowing

Zambia’s debt burden is a stark reminder of the cost of borrowing without sustainable repayment strategies. Debt restructuring has brought temporary relief, but without fiscal discipline, the country risks falling into another debt trap.

                              The Solution:

Zambia must chart a path toward debt sustainability. This involves:

                              • Transparent Borrowing:

All debt agreements must be transparent and subjected to proper parliamentary oversight.

                              • Fiscal Discipline:

Reduce non-essential spending and curb wasteful expenditures. If funds are borrowed, they should be directed toward projects with clear, measurable returns.

                              • Revenue Mobilization:

Zambia needs to improve domestic revenue collection by sealing tax leakages and promoting the formalization of informal sector activities.

                              5. Healthcare Reform: Beyond Clinics, Towards Universal Access

While strides have been made in healthcare infrastructure, many rural communities remain without access to healthcare. Maternal and child mortality rates remain high, and access to specialists and advanced medical services is limited to urban areas.

                              The Solution:

Healthcare reform must prioritize access, equity, and quality of service. Key interventions include:

                              • District Hospitals:

Every district should have at least one fully equipped hospital with specialized services. Mini-hospitals can cater to chiefdoms and rural outposts.

                              • Human Resources:

Increase the number of healthcare workers, especially nurses, midwives, and doctors, in rural areas.

                              • Affordable Healthcare:

Expand the National Health Insurance Scheme to cover vulnerable groups and reduce out-of-pocket costs for essential health services.

                              6. Education Reform: Building Minds for the Future

A 21st-century Zambia requires a 21st-century education system. However, many schools lack basic infrastructure such as classrooms, desks, and access to technology. The curriculum is also misaligned with the job market, leaving graduates unprepared for the workforce.

                              The Solution:

Education reform must address both access and quality. Key areas of focus include:

                              • Curriculum Reform:

Align education with market demands by including technical and vocational training in secondary education.

                              • School Infrastructure:

Prioritize the construction of additional classrooms, dormitories, and sanitation facilities, especially in rural areas.

                              • Technology in Education:

Embrace e-learning and ensure that students in rural areas have access to internet-enabled devices and connectivity.

                              7. Leadership and Accountability: No More Excuses

Finally, at the heart of all these challenges is the issue of leadership. Zambia’s politics must shift from personality-driven campaigns to issue-based campaigns. Citizens must demand accountability, transparency, and vision from their leaders. Leaders must be judged not by how many rallies they hold, but by how many projects they complete.

                              The Solution:

To achieve this, citizens must demand more from their elected officials. Key actions include:

                              • Social Accountability:

Communities should monitor and demand timely updates on projects funded by the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

                              • Issue-Based Campaigns:

Citizens should reject politicians who offer slogans without substance. Elections should be won on merit, not on the volume of campaign songs and mudslinging.

                              • Legislative Reforms:

Strengthen oversight institutions such as the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to ensure public resources are not misappropriated.

                              The Call to Action

Zambians deserve better. While challenges abound, so do opportunities. But to seize these opportunities, citizens must demand issue-based leadership and reject the politics of populism. This is not a call for cynicism; it is a call for action.

The next elections must be a referendum on ideas, not personalities. Leaders must be called to present clear, coherent, and well-researched development plans. Empty promises should be met with firm resistance. Citizens must insist on roadmaps with timelines, targets, and accountability measures.

The path to Zambia’s prosperity is not hidden: it requires courage, discipline, and a collective will to embrace reform. Our challenges are well known. Our solutions are within reach. What remains is for citizens to demand the substance required to transform rhetoric into reality.

THE UPND MUST STOP USING THE RULE OF LAW EXCUSE TO PERSECUTE AND SUPPRESS CITIZENS- New Heritage Party

THE UPND  MUST STOP USING THE RULE OF LAW EXCUSE TO PERSECUTE AND SUPPRESS CITIZENS

                              8th December 2024

The New Heritage Party (NHP) is deeply concerned about the seeming financial persecution and suppression of citizens, particularly Zambian owned businesses, by the UPND led government. Apparently,  this government is favoring non-Zambian owned businesses, offering them tax holidays and other incentives, while subjecting local owned businesses to harsh treatments such as multiple taxing, and high tax rates.

The UPND led government’s modus operandi is to abuse any available state institution to persecute citizens. If it is not the ZRA they are abusing, it is the police, the councils, the Public Order Act (POA), the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), or any other vague and ambiguous laws like the Cybercrime Act or criminal libel. The laws are being abused to silence citizens’ voices and stifle the voters.

This government requires local owned businesses to pay all royalties, duties, rates, and taxes without exception. Failure to comply results in severe penalties, while foreign owned businesses are on exemptions called tax holidays.

Seemingly, the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) is being abused to savagely squeeze and suffocate life out of Zambian owned businesses, leading to families languishing in abject poverty.

UPND, abusing law, have fixed Spax Mining, a Zambian-owned company, and  taken it to court using the ZRA over tax evasion and was made to pay about five million Kwacha upon admission of guilty, while Zambia is losing billions of dollars through the tax holidays given to foreign run mining firms. It seems law in Zambia is only enforceable on Zambians and law is being abused to cripple Zambians, while foreign owned mining businesses are exempted and exalted. This is selective justice.

Heartlessly, the UPND led government is milking small businesses such as mobile money operators with exorbitant fees. The government has imposed numerous levies on marketeers and mobile money businesses through council levies, such as  daily market stand fees, toilet user fees, fire and health, certificate issuance fees;  garbage disposal and collection fees.

Mobile money operators pay K1,500 to councils for space, K275 as an annual levy, and a K100 monthly, while foreign-run mines are exploiting our national resources almost for free.

In a move that has left many reeling, the UPND led government razed down booths for mobile money agents in Central Business Districts (CBDs) across the country, such as in Lusaka, Livingstone, on the Copperbelt, and in Solwezi, under the pretext of cleaning CBDs. Market traders and street vendors have  been forced to vacate their trading places; chased away from ideal trading places without providing alternatives, help, viable solutions, or considering the negative effects of such actions on these poor people. This has effectively killed many Zambian owned businesses, leaving owners with no recourse.

It is wrong for the UPND led government, its cadres and praise singers to believe that arresting people and abusing the law to silence Zambians is the hallmark of a government that respects the rule of law.

Abusing the law to crackdown on citizens, under the guise of maintaining law and order is nothing short of lawfare and dictatorship. Only a government and party with misguided and dangerous notions about the rule of law, believes that arresting its own citizens is synonymous with upholding the rule of law.

On the contrary, the rule of law is about ensuring that all citizens and residents in Zambia are treated fairly and equally under the law. The law must not be used as a tool to persecute and intimidate citizens as these cause fear and nightmares in Citizens and takes away their rights and freedoms.. The UPND led government must stop using the rule of law as an excuse to persecute and suppress citizens and residents.

When in opposition, the UPND opposed and denounced such persecution and suppression as a phenomena from Colonial days. In total hypocrisy, today UPND in government consistently uses the same laws, they previously denounced and condemned, to persecution and suppression citizen.

The NHP, therefore, demands that this seeming financial persecution and suppression stops immediately.  In place of persecution and suppression, Government must provide a level playing field for all businesses and citizens. We call upon the UPND led government to treat all citizens and residents equally, regardless of their business or social status.

Additionally we demand that all tax holidays and exemptions  be abolished immediately without further delay as they are robbing Zambia of its much needed revenue.  Furthermore, we demand that the UPND led government must provide viable alternatives, solutions and incentives to problems faced by Zambian owned businesses and ensure that the law is applied equally, fairly and justly.

Join us in our fight for a fair and just Zambia.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED WHEN NGONIS WERE IN BEMBALAND- THE HIDDEN TRUTH

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED WHEN NGONIS WERE IN BEMBALAND- THE HIDDEN TRUTH.

Interesting that the article that i did on Tipu Tipu is trending but at the same time has stirred controversy among the readers. This is why i ventured into this field of systematic study of the Ngoni history because I saw the many inaccuracies in most narratives. Lucky for me , most of sources are primary sources that is them being written or published either by the people mentioned in the stories or when these people were alive.

I often wonder how and where people get some of these narratives from. I read with amusement a comment on the Tipu Tipu article that Ngonis abducted a Bemba Princess and then when she delivered whilst still in Bembaland, they took her back to her family with the baby which was named Mwamba. This made me burst into uncontrollable laughter but it also made me realise how we stil have lot of work to do.

The Bemba Princess left Ngoniland when our history had already started being dotted down. She was even interviewed before leaving Ngoniland and her village was at the Msekera. Her description is even given in the notes of those who saw her; she had been ngonilized as her ears were also slit.  She left when Ngoniland was occupied by the colonial masters. I wonder how someone can have incorrect information in this matter. The same woman died in 1937 and the Bembas who know their history know this very well.

Now back to the Bemba-Ngoni confrontations, i notice again how people seem lost on this matter. Some are asking how come Ngonis were defeated around 1869 when i said they left in 1856. Again this shows how dangerous it is not to research and read thoroughly. They were TWO different Ngoni groups in Bembaland after 1850. It was the Macumi/Lufo group that was the first Ngoni group to arrive and set base in Bembaland around 1849.

Almost around the same time, another group, which rightly is called the Mphezeni group also set base at their capital Tintini. These were on a different side as the Macumi group. ThThese were on a different side as the Macumi group. This is very important to note! Inyandezulu Mphezeni and his group left Bembaland around 1856 having fought with the Bembas of Chitimukulu atleast three times. These trekked along the Muchinga escarpment  and crossed the Luangwa in grand style in 1860. This group is the one that ended up in Eastern Zambia.

The Macumi/Lufo group remained in Bembaland and continued their skirmishes with the Bembas. Now this group befriended the people of Mwamba and even Mwambwa himself encouraged the Ngonis to attack the Bembas of Chitimukulu. Indeed the other name of Lufo apart from Mphelembe is MWAMBA. Even the records in Mzimba rightly tag Inkosi Mphelembe as also Mwamba. This group would remain in Bembaland until when Tipu Tipu came into this Kingdom to trade with Bembas (this was not his first time to meet King Chitimukulu and his people). And this is where they took advantage of him and coerced him to fight on their side.

And that’s how the Ngonis of Inkosi Mphelembe or Inkosi Mwamba were defeated and expelled from Bembaland and by late 1869 were camped at Sitwe (i have been to where they were and the area has some of Nguni clans) and proceeed to Mzimba to join his brothers. Indeed the records again there rightly confirms there was no Inkosi Lufo in Mzimba until late 1870. Now, we should appreciate that this group remained friendly to the Mwamba’s people but with the Bembas of Chitimukulu, they were eternal enemies.

Now if you have followed me, you will notice that two different Ngoni groups fought with Bembas at at different intervals. But by 1869, there was no any Ngoni group in Bembaland. Now around 1877, almost a decade after the expulsion of the Lufo group (Macumi had died and was buried in Bembaland), the Biza leader Chifundo sent envoys to Mzimba. The group went to ask for help from King Mmbelwa KaZwangendaba to help them against constant Bemba attacks. And King Mmbelwa dispatched an army for this task, this group led by Ngonomo Makamo and Chidumayi Ngulube only arrived in 1878.

This group was from the Mmbelwa Ngoni section, kindly follow me here, it had never been in Bembaland. This group fought with the Bembas who were commanded by Chandalea, a brother of the Chitimukulu. This was an epic battle and according to Ngonomo it lasted three days and Bembas were defeated and pushed further to the delight of Chifundo. Around this same area, Dr Stewart had arrived in Mzimba and when the group arrived back home, they were surprised to have had visitors in their lands. The missionaries mention this very battle between the Ngonis of Mzimba and the Bembas.

STOCK THEFT TO BE NON BAILABLE WITH 14 YEARS IMPRISONMENT – HICHILEMA

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated that government is in the process of amending the law which will lead to stock theft being non bailable.

Meeting with traditional leaders in Siavonga district yesterday, President Hichilema stated that government will not allow people to get off scot free after stealing livestock.

He said his government does not take any type of crime lightly and as such thieves of goats, cattle, fish and other livestock will need to be fished out of society by way of punishing them severely.

“We will not allow theft. Those who steal cows, goats. Those in criminal activities for livestock theft. Those who are married, you men who are married, you will be locked up for 14 years,  no bail, when you come back you find your wife has produced four children from other men,” he said.

“When people steal from individuals, ing’ombe (cattle),  we will arrest them, goats, cattle, pigs chickens, fish. We are amending the law, there will be no bail, because they steal from a widow seven goats, two oxen you have said. There will be no bail, today we arrest them, tomorrow they go and negotiate with the owner outside court.”

The Head of State further advised thieves and would-be offenders to take up any of government’s interventions like cash for work to sustain themselves.

He warned that no one will walk away freely after stealing anything from citizens.

“Those who steal, go and work, there are a lot of various government interventions like cash for work that can work for your advantage. This government does not support stealing from the people of Zambia,” he explained.

He urged traditional leaders to work together with government in ensuring that thieves are brought to book.

“We need to work together, we your children should not rush to you to say I’m being victimised. Don’t take what is not yours. The subjects must not run to you to divide the country on the basis of fighting against corruption, public money is public money, we must be united in those ends. When people steal from the state, we will arrest them. Why should we lobby for people who are stealing as big as 10 million US dollars. Let’s work together,” urged the Head of State.

And Southern province chiefs’ representative Chief Nalubamba of Namwala district of Southern Province expressed happiness over the move government is taking on stock theft.

He called for a more severe punishment for the thieves as that will help deter would be offenders from committing crimes.

The Game of Governance – Why Nevers Mumba’s Football Analogy Misses the Goal

The Game of Governance – Why Nevers Mumba’s Football Analogy Misses the Goal

                              By David Zgambo | 8 December, 2024

In politics, as in football, the stakes are high—but unlike a game, the consequences of political missteps can shape a nation’s future irrevocably. Nevers Mumba’s recent attempt to frame the constitutional eligibility debate surrounding former President Edgar Lungu in the context of a football match is a misguided oversimplification. By reducing critical constitutional issues to a mere game, Mumba reveals a troubling disconnect from the very principles he once swore to uphold as Vice President of Zambia prior to his dismissal:

                              1. Misinterpretation of Constitutional Implications

Mumba argues that should the Constitutional Court declare Lungu ineligible, it would not lead to the nullification of the 2021 election results or a return of power to Lungu. While he attempts to use a football analogy to explain this, it does not capture the complexities of constitutional law. In reality, the ramifications of such a ruling could be far-reaching and would require a careful legal interpretation of Zambia’s electoral laws. Mumba’s oversimplified analogy suggests that the situation can be resolved without recognizing the potential for significant political upheaval, which undermines the serious nature of constitutional governance.

                              2. Personal Experience and Accountability

Mumba’s own political journey—a cameo as Vice President that ended with his dismissal by President Levy Mwanawasa—serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of shallow reasoning in leadership. His removal was not merely a tactical decision but a necessary reflection of accountability and the need for responsible governance. Just as a football player may be benched for poor performance, Mumba’s ousting underscores the tangible impact of ineffective leadership on the political landscape. Instead of using his “experience” to inform a deeper understanding of political responsibility, he trivializes complex constitutional issues, revealing a lack of introspection regarding his own failures and the reasons behind his political decline.

                              3. Misrepresentation of Legal Outcomes

Mumba contends that justice cannot reward the offender while punishing the innocent, suggesting that the courts will not nullify the election results simply because Lungu is declared ineligible. However, his interpretation overlooks the nuances involved in legal proceedings. While he presents a case for maintaining the integrity of the election results, he fails to acknowledge that the legal system may well have to navigate uncharted waters if the former president is deemed ineligible. The implications of such a ruling could lead to significant shifts in political power dynamics, and to dismiss this possibility is to ignore the realities of how electoral systems function.

                              4. Undermining Meaningful Discourse

By relying on a football analogy, Mumba ultimately undermines meaningful discourse on crucial constitutional matters. His approach dilutes the essence of political debate and distracts from the pressing issues facing Zambians. In an era where political engagement is paramount for democracy, his trivialization of constitutional issues does a disservice to the very citizens who deserve a deeper, more substantive discussion regarding governance and the rule of law. This inability to engage with serious themes raises questions about Mumba’s relevance in politics.

                              5. The Urgency for New Leadership

As our country navigates critical challenges, Mumba’s shallow reasoning and reliance on trivial analogies signal a desperate grasp for relevance in a political landscape that demands fresh, visionary leadership. His cameo as Vice President should serve as a cautionary tale about the importance of understanding the weight of political responsibility. Rather than contributing to meaningful discussions, he opts for trivial comparisons that undermine the significance of constitutional debates. Zambians deserve leaders who articulate serious policy positions and engage thoughtfully with the complexities of governance, not those who resort to hollow analogies that fail to resonate with the realities facing our nation.

                              6. The Need for Regulations in Religious Leadership

Additionally, Mumba’s background as a former pastor raises an important issue regarding the qualifications and responsibilities of religious leaders in Zambia. As he positions himself within the political arena, it becomes clear that not everyone should have the unregulated ability to stand before the masses and disseminate opinions that can significantly influence public perception and political discourse. The time has come for Zambia to institute stringent regulations and licensing requirements for pastors and religious leaders. This would ensure that individuals who take on such influential roles are held to standards that prioritize truth, integrity, and accountability. Just as we expect politicians to be informed and responsible, so too should we expect the same from those who guide the moral and spiritual compass of our society. By establishing these safeguards, Zambia can protect its citizens from misinformation and manipulation, fostering a political climate that values informed discourse over simplistic analogies.

Nevers Mumba’s use of a football analogy to discuss constitutional issues not only reflects a shallow understanding of governance but also highlights his diminishing relevance in Zambian politics. His failure to engage meaningfully with the complexities of constitutional law and justice demonstrates a disconnect from the responsibilities of leadership. As Zambia confronts pressing issues of governance, the need for substantive voices in political discourse has never been greater. We must demand leaders who rise to the occasion, who understand the intricacies of governance, and who can foster a political climate that reflects the seriousness of the challenges we face. Mumba’s continued attempts to engage in this discourse only underscore the urgent need for fresh, substantive leadership that truly addresses the pressing challenges facing our society.

DIEGO DISOWNS CORRUPT PPP FOR LUSAKA-NDOLA DUAL CARRIAGE WAY

In his fourth significant letter in recent days exposing the rot and corrupt practices under President Hakainde Hichilema’s Government, renowned Lusaka business mogul, Diego Cassili has distanced himself from the corruptly procured Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway.

The project which now belongs to a chinese consortium, is being funded by the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) and Workers Compensation Fund Control Board (WCFCB).

Recently the chinese consortium from the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) took over toll gates at; Katuba, Manyumbi and

                              in the country.

The PPP also included rehabilitation of the 45km Luanshya Fisenge-Masangano road.

The Agreement gave MOIC a 25-year
                              concession period to finance, design,
construct, operate, and maintain the two

The concession period is split into
two phases (3 years construction, and 22
                              years for operation and maintenance)

Under the Business Coalition Taskforce (BCT), Cassili caned Hichilema’s government which has allowed the looting of public funds at institutions such as the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and the corrupt Zambia Police which is now ranked as one of the most corrupt police forces in the world with an unenviable ranking of 118 of 125 country police forces surveyed.

It must be noted that Cassili is touted as one of the close business associate and friend of President Hichilema and the UPND.

                              Below is his letter on the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriage-way;

Yamene Ltd and Velos Enterprises Ltd would like to take this opportunity to inform the public that neither of our companies is involved in the MOIC-LN dual carriageway road project from Ndola to Lusaka.

For the sake of clarity, we would like to confirm that Yamene/Velos did tender for the project but were not awarded the Public-Private Partnership (PPP)
                              contract.

We reiterate that we are in no way involved in any part ofthis project.

SETTLE POLITICAL DIFFERENCES THROUGH DIALOGUE-  MUNDUBILE

SETTLE POLITICAL DIFFERENCES THROUGH DIALOGUE-  MUNDUBILE.

…. not using the justice system to victimize and persecute opponents that have differed politically.

Lusaka, December 7, 2024 (Smart Eagles)

Mporokoso Member of Parliament Honorable Brian Mundubile says political differences must be settled through dialogue and not using the justice system to victimize and persecute opponents that have differed politically.

Hon Mundubile said this after Vising incarcerated Hon Bowman Lusambo, Francis Muchemwa, Shebby Chilekwa and Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba among others at Mwembeshi Maximum Correctional Center today.

He was in the company of Hon Mulenga Fube Mp, Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya MP and Hon George Chisanga MP.

Hon Mundubile said the incarcerated politicians have been jailed because they differed with the UPND Government on political matters.

He said the cases of Hon Ronald Chitotela and Hon Nickson Chilangwa makes sad reading.

Hon Mundubile has called upon President Hakainde Hichilema to take deep reflection on these matters and view them from Citizens perspectives.

“I think political differences must be settled through dialogue and not using the justice system to victimize people that have differed politically. Our call is that the President should take it upon himself and put on a different lens so that he feels how we feel when we see our friends go there yet we know they do not deserve to be there. We took time to see Bowman Lusambo, Francis Muchemwa and many others.

Let President Hichilema put on the lens of the Zambian people to understand what they think about these incarcerations. When you look at what happened in KAWAMBWA RESULTED Into these convictions makes sad reading, how do the people from kabushi feel. From the beginning, Bowman Lusambo lost a seat out of unfairness and manipulated the system……,” said Hon Mundubile.

And Hon Mundubile has noted that the political landscape has changed completely and has become worse.

He said that while politics must change, there is need to love lead.

“It has never been seen before that MPs out of small misunderstandings may end up in prison like this. There were differences in the past, we never saw a member of parliament losing his seat out of a political misunderstanding as the case may be in Hon chitotela and Hon chilangwa. President Hichilmea, the Zambians expected you to change the dimension of politics.

The case of chitotela, Bowman, Chilangwa, Shabby Chilekwa are coming out of political differences and must be settled through dialogue,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lukashya MP Hon George Chisanga said there is a difference on how the justice system treats members of the UPND and the opposition stressing the need for a better Zambia.

“The men are in high spirit despite being incarcerated and fighting for their innocence, they have encouraged us to continue focusing on their innocence.  We come here at a time even the USA has raised issues of human rights profile in this country.  They have called this government to pay particular attention to ensure that people enjoy their guaranteed rights including what is enshrined in article 18 of the constitution………… We came here to strengthen our colleagues. We know what they are going through. We are hopeful that a brighter day always comes.

… WE have to fight and ensure that all forms of injustice in the country are removed. We are so grateful to the USA, Zambia must be in the spotlight. They must begin to look at

This is a country that was an admired democracy. This is a country where the rule of law reigned supreme but because of the politisation of the institutions of governance, people are now begin to see that there is a difference on how you are treated when in opposition and government…,” he said.

Open Letter to the Chief Justice Hon. Mumba Malila- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Open Letter to the Chief Justice Hon. Mumba Malila

Subject: A Call for True Transparency: Broadcasting the Entire Judicial Process of the Eligibility Case of Former President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu

Dear Honorable Chief Justice Mumba Malila,

I write this letter with a profound sense of responsibility as a concerned citizen, representing the views of countless well-meaning Zambians who have been deeply invested in the eligibility case of former President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu. This case, which has been brought before the Constitutional Court multiple times, is not just a legal matter; it is a matter of national importance that strikes at the very heart of our democracy, constitutional integrity, and public trust. Citizens across our nation deserve to understand the evidence and constitutional debates that have compelled this case to be revisited for the fifth time.

Our nation’s commitment to democracy, accountability, and constitutional integrity rests on the foundation of transparency. We believe that a transparent judicial process is not a privilege but a fundamental right of every Zambian. However, the decision to televise this case only at the judgment stage, while excluding the entire judicial process from public view, is a blatant departure from the principles of transparency, accountability, and democratic integrity that our constitution and democracy stand for.

Transparency Is the Lifeblood of Our Democracy

Many Zambians were eager to observe the arguments, witness the exchange of evidence, and follow the legal debates that have shaped this case. These proceedings are not merely about reaching a verdict; they are about seeing justice in action, understanding how evidence is examined, how arguments are presented, and how constitutional principles are debated and upheld. Citizens deserve the opportunity to witness these critical elements to form informed opinions about the legitimacy, fairness, and constitutionality of decisions that shape our nation’s future.

By televising only the final judgment, we are denied the full context necessary to evaluate the integrity and fairness of the process. This fragmented approach fosters confusion, breeds misinformation, and erodes public confidence in our judicial system. It raises troubling questions: Are we prioritizing transparency and justice, or are we prioritizing secrecy and political interests?

A Transparent Process Strengthens Public Trust and Accountability

The arguments, testimonies, counterpoints, and deliberations presented before the Constitutional Court are not just legal exchanges; they are educational moments for our citizens. Broadcasting these elements in their entirety would empower Zambians with a deeper understanding of our legal and constitutional landscape. Such transparency would cultivate a more informed and engaged citizenry, strengthen our democratic culture, and reinforce the accountability of public officials. It would also ensure that our judiciary serves not just as a legal body but as a true guardian of justice and fairness, genuinely committed to serving the interests of the people.

Hiding these crucial deliberations only invites speculation, misinformation, and distrust — factors that are poisonous to democracy, social cohesion, and national unity. We must ask ourselves: In whose interest are these decisions being made? Is this about safeguarding public trust and accountability, or is it about protecting certain individuals or interests at the cost of transparency and fairness?

Justice Must Be Seen, Understood, and Trusted

Justice is not a matter of outcomes alone; it is about the process that brings us to those outcomes. We must see arguments made, evidence scrutinized, and decisions carefully deliberated before the courts. This transparency would instill a stronger sense of trust in our institutions, uphold democratic accountability, and demonstrate our unwavering commitment to fairness, equality, and justice.

I respectfully and urgently urge Your Honor, Chief Justice Mumba Malila, to reconsider the decision to televise this case solely at the judgment stage. In the interest of transparency, public trust, and democratic integrity, we request that future national-interest cases be broadcast not only at the judgment stage but throughout the entirety of the proceedings.

                              Sincerely,
                              Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Zambia Faces Political Crisis as Constitutional Court Prepares to Rule on Edgar Lungu’s Eligibility

Zambia Faces Political Crisis as Constitutional Court Prepares to Rule on Edgar Lungu’s Eligibility

As Zambia braces for the Constitutional Court’s ruling on former President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility to contest the 2026 elections, the country stands on the edge of a political precipice. The ruling, set for December 10, 2024, has sparked widespread anxiety, with opposition figures, analysts, and ordinary citizens all fearing the fallout from what is expected to be a deeply divisive decision.

Peter Sinkamba, leader of the Green Party, has been vocal in warning that whichever way the court rules, Zambia will be plunged into chaos. Sinkamba’s statements are chillingly blunt: If the court declares Lungu ineligible, it would not only invalidate his potential candidacy for 2026, but retroactively declare him ineligible in the 2021 elections. According to Sinkamba, such a ruling would nullify the 2021 presidential election, forcing fresh elections within 90 days—an unprecedented constitutional nightmare that would put the country on the brink of a political crisis.

“Once the court makes a decision, it cannot be reversed, yet the ramifications of declaring Lungu ineligible go far beyond just the 2026 election,” Sinkamba cautioned. “It would mean that the 2021 election was a fraud, forcing the country back into a state of political paralysis.”

The controversy surrounding Lungu’s eligibility is not new. His political maneuvering has been a constant source of tension since he left office in 2021. The former president’s attempts to stay relevant by aligning himself with various political factions, including his recent entry into the Tonse Alliance, have raised eyebrows. Lungu’s actions have been interpreted as a blatant attempt to undermine the current administration and ensure his return to power, a move that has left many questioning his motives.

Lungu himself has accused the government of trying to prevent him from contesting the 2026 election, claiming that he has been unfairly targeted. However, his critics argue that his actions, including potentially changing his political alliances and manipulating the legal system, are a dangerous ploy to destabilize the political landscape and regain control.

Sinkamba’s warnings are not unfounded. The case surrounding Lungu’s eligibility has exposed the deep fractures in Zambia’s political system. The decision of the Constitutional Court will not just be a legal verdict—it will be a shot heard across the nation, potentially upending the entire democratic process. If Lungu is ruled ineligible, it will be seen by many as an attack on his political legacy, one that could lead to widespread unrest. On the other hand, a ruling that allows Lungu to run would send a message that Zambia’s political elite are above the law, perpetuating the cycle of impunity and political manipulation.

The real danger lies in the potential for violence and political instability. With the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) already having set the roadmap for the 2026 elections, tensions are set to rise, particularly in the wake of a ruling that may fuel the already simmering anger in the country. Citizens are already fatigued by the political infighting and backroom deals that seem to govern the nation’s politics. The ruling will either expose the nation’s constitutional weaknesses or cement the fear that Zambia’s democracy is just a hollow shell.

The eyes of the world will be on Zambia as the Constitutional Court delivers its ruling. But beyond the legal and political drama, the future of the nation itself hangs in the balance. Will Zambia finally confront the political manipulation that has plagued its democracy for decades, or will it slip further into the abyss of crisis and conflict? If Sinkamba’s predictions hold true, Zambia’s political landscape could become unrecognizable, with the possibility of Lungu returning to power in a deeply fractured and unstable environment.

One thing is certain: the coming days will be critical for Zambia, as the nation stands on the brink of a political storm that could either restore faith in its legal system or push it into an irreversible crisis.

…as he expresses shock that AG now reports audit progress to the Executive

                              November 7th, 2024 (SmartEagles)

LUNTE Member of Parliament Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya has challenged President Hakainde Hichilema to ‘do nothing’ to the people who have allegedly been stealing medicines meant for use in public health institutions.

President Hichilema has been quoted in today’s Zambia Daily Mail newspaper stating that he now knows the selfish individuals who have been profiting from the drugs meant to benefit Zambians.

The President made the statement after receiving the preliminary findings of the forensic audit conducted on the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) by the office of the Auditor General covering the period January 2023 to December 2024.

But Hon Kafwaya states that it will be unfair for president Hichilema and his government to mete punishment on the said individuals found wanting when he has failed to act on the cabinet ministers who are under investigation by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

He says president Hichilema must let the said people who have been stealing the medicines to continue working just like he has failed to punish, suspend or even name a single cabinet minister currently under investigation by the ACC.

“Let him do nothing about these people. He should let them continue working because this is what he has done to the ministers who are being investigated by the ACC,” Hon Kafwaya said.

Meanwhile, the former cabinet minister has expressed surprise that the office of the Auditor General is now giving the President preliminary reports.

Hon Kafwaya states that the office of the Auditor General is independent from the Executive arm of government hence the Executive cannot direct the Auditor General.

He explains therefore that if the Auditor General is independent from the Executive, there is no way that his office can be reporting progress on the audit work.

Hon Kafwaya further notes that constitutionally, the Auditor General reports to the President on the same day as he does to the National Assembly of Zambia.

“So to see that the President is now receiving preliminary reports from the Auditor General has shocked me,” he added.  “And this is why I complain about the state of the Auditor General.”

The Lunte lawmaker is of the view that governance in Zambia has become one of the worst because the Executive has deliberately destroyed institutions of governance.

Hon Kafwaya has urged the Zambian People to have a say on what is happening because the country risk being ‘finished completely’ if the status quo continues on the same trajectory.

Partner-swapping scandal sends Samfya tongues wagging

TONGUES of people in the usually tranquil fishing district of Samfya, Luapula Province are wagging non-stop and fueling the gossip mill after news of two married couples willingly exchanging partners, spread like wild fire.

                              https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19k249TRy3/?mibextid=oFDknk

Residents of Musaba Ward in Senior Chief Kalasa Mukoso’s chiefdom have abandoned their daily routines, leaving fishing nets to drift aimlessly on Lake Bangweulu and farming tools to rust in the fields as they discuss the salacious scandal.

Headman Champion Chisala called a meeting of village elders after Josephine Mbilima reported her daughter’s suspicious behavior.

Her 28-year-old daughter, Esther Mbilima, a community teacher, was discovered bringing another man into her home whenever her husband, Joseph Musenge, a 30-year-old shop owner, was away.

Investigations revealed that Joseph was fully aware of the affair and was himself romantically involved with Mary Mwila, 26, the wife of his wife’s lover, Mathew Ngosa, a 31-year-old farmer.

The four individuals confirmed the arrangement when confronted, but villagers are now questioning whether there is more to the story.

“my fellow villagers believe this is a ritual aimed at acquiring wealth,” said one elder who attended the meeting.

“Joseph Musenge is a shop owner, and people think he might be using this situation to gain more prosperity It’s unheard of  and many are suspicious,” another elder said.

Headman Chisala acknowledged the speculation but maintained his focus on addressing the cultural and moral implications of the affair.

“I don’t know what would make people comfortable with such a situation We are counseling them but if this is tied to rituals it’s even more troubling because Our culture does not condone such practices.” said the headman

Villagers have expressed mixed emotions about the scandal. While some are urging the couples to leave the village, others insist on a thorough investigation into whether ritualistic beliefs are influencing their actions.

“This is not just about immorality; there’s something deeper here People don’t break such taboos without a reason,” Mbilima said

The elders have vowed to consult spiritual leaders and traditional healers to determine if the situation could indeed be tied to ritual wealth-seeking practices. Meanwhile, the couples face mounting pressure to explain their actions and make amends to restore harmony in the community.

The unfolding drama has sparked widespread debate about the erosion of traditional values and the lengths some individuals may go to in pursuit of material gain.

CAPTION: Josephine Mbilima (In black headsock) attends the meeting while her daughter, Esther (third right) looks the other way.

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION EMBROILED IN K3.6 MILLION SCANDAL: NAQEZ DEMANDS HEADS TO ROLL

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION EMBROILED IN K3.6 MILLION SCANDAL: NAQEZ DEMANDS HEADS TO ROLL

In what has been dubbed one of the most disgraceful financial scandals in recent history, the Ministry of Education has been exposed for squandering K3.6 million on a dubious census software, M.SAT, without proper justification. The revelation has sent shockwaves across Zambia, with calls for immediate accountability intensifying.

The scandal came to light during the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) hearings, where Ministry officials were left fumbling for answers on how such an enormous amount of taxpayers’ money was funneled into a shadowy deal. The software, M.SAT, remains a mystery to many, with no evidence of its functionality or necessity in the education sector.

The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) has since issued a scathing statement, labeling the involved officials as “enemies of the people” and demanding decisive action from President Hakainde Hichilema.

“School grants are critical to running educational activities in the country. To see millions wasted in this manner is an insult to every Zambian child struggling to learn in dilapidated classrooms,” fumed NAQEZ Executive Director Aaron Chansa. “This blatant abuse of authority must not go unpunished. The President must act now.”

Chansa further threw his weight behind PAC’s efforts to recover the stolen funds while urging the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to launch a thorough investigation.

“Citizens are tired of being told to tighten their belts while officials shamelessly loot public funds. This is the time for the ACC to prove its worth,” he added.

As outrage mounts, Zambians are questioning how such a reckless expenditure could have slipped past oversight mechanisms. Social media is ablaze with citizens demanding answers and insisting that heads must roll in the Ministry of Education.

“This isn’t just a scandal—it’s a betrayal of the Zambian people. While children sit on the floor due to lack of desks, officials are busy lining their pockets. Enough is enough!” wrote one enraged commenter.

The Ministry of Education is yet to issue a satisfactory explanation, further fueling public suspicion. Meanwhile, the clock is ticking for President Hichilema to demonstrate his government’s commitment to rooting out corruption—a key promise of his administration.

Failure to act decisively could spell political disaster, as Zambians grow increasingly impatient with corruption scandals that rob the nation of progress and dignity.

I will start monitoring projects myself, Hichilema tells councils to work on roads

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has directed all councils across the country to work on feeder roads as soon as the rainy season is done stating that he will be going round next year to monitor developmental projects for himself so as to avoid mismanagement of resources or excuses from the council.

                              https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CJ4fW4vED/?mibextid=oFDknk

President Hichilema revealed that government has allocated K3 million per constituency meant for the procurement of fuel and oil for the sole purpose of grading feeder roads.

He said despite the drought, government had bought road maintenance equipment which ought to be utilised without fail.

“Please councils, CDF committes, all those councils that have bought road maintenance equipment, you were not using this equipment properly in the previous years. In the 2025 budget despite the challenges, we have allocated K3 million per constituency to buy fuel and oil and so by the time we are in April, May, I want to see grading of feeder roads across the country because we have provided the money, there’s no excuse. The money is there.”

“Local Government Minister (Gary Nkombo), I have said it publicly here, the president who is the chief servant of the people has directed that all councils must grade roads across the country, from April, May, once the rains are over, all the feeder roads must be graded because we have allocated money. I will be going round next year myself to go and see that the roads are being done, are being graded that is what I’m going to do,” said President Hichilema.

The Head of State also encouraged citizens to make use of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in order to develop their communities.

“CDF has been increasssd so that you may utilise it. That money is for the community. Use it for what you want. CDF is your money, it’s a councilor’s money, it’s not an Member of Parliament’s money, it’s not a minister’s money , it’s not a DC’s  money, it’s your money and must be utilised in the areas you deem fit especially in the education and health infrastructure and water,” he advised.

The President said this during the 2024 Lwiindi Bagande Traditional Ceremony of the Tonga people of Siavonga District yesterday.

The ceremony saw over 30 chiefs from different chiefdoms across the country celebrating with Chief Simamba the 11th of the Tonga people of Siavonga.

President Hichilema hailed the chiefs for their unwavering support for each other in driving the agenda of uniting the country.

The Head of State urged Zambians to acknowledge the importance of heritage and culture.

And I want to encourage chiefs to continue promoting culture and heritage. I want to encourage we who believe that by going to town, by going to school we are detached from our heritage that’s wrong. Those who say ceremonies are primitive, what do you mean it’s primitive, you are primitive yourself. History is important to us,” said President Hichilema.

And Chief Simamba the 11th praised the President for being available to almost all the ceremonies once called upon revealing that President Hichilema was the first ever sitting President to grace the Lwiindi Bagande ceremony.

“We appreciate the role you are playing as the father of the nation, we ask that you may continue with the same spirit,” said Chief Simamba…https://kalemba.news/local/2024/12/08/i-will-start-monitoring-projects-myself-hichilema-tells-councils-to-work-on-roads/

                              07 – December, 2024 Saturday.

It is with immense pride and joy that I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our esteemed Citizens First party president, Dr. Harry Kalaba, on his recent reelection. This victory is not just a testament to his unwavering dedication and visionary leadership but also a clear reflection of the confidence the people of Zambia have in his ability to steer our nation towards a brighter future.

Dr. Kalaba’s re-election comes at a critical juncture in our country’s history looking at what he has endured from the previous regime, the Democratic Party (DP) and what is enduring in the mighty Citizens First. As we navigate through the challenges posed by the current United Party for National Development UPND administration, it has become increasingly evident that the people of Zambia are disillusioned with the leadership of Dr. Hakainde Hichilema. The promises made during his campaign have not materialized, leaving many citizens feeling abandoned and frustrated. The current Republican President has, regrettably, failed to deliver on the aspirations of our people, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that we chart a new course for our nation.

In contrast, Dr. Kalaba embodies the hope and resilience that our country so desperately needs. His vision for a prosperous Zambia resonates with the aspirations of our citizens, and his commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance is a beacon of hope for all. The mandate ahead of him is not just a personal journey; it is a collective mission to restore faith in our political system and to uplift the lives of every Zambian.

I would also like to take this opportunity to commend our party membership nation over for the powerful intraparty democracy that has been exercised throughout this party electoral process. Your unwavering support and belief in Dr. Kalaba’s vision have been instrumental in this victory. It is a testament to the strength and unity of the Citizens First  Party, and it showcases our commitment to democratic principles and the empowerment of our members.

As we move forward, let us remain steadfast in our resolve to work together for the betterment of our nation. The road ahead may be challenging, but with Dr. Kalaba at the helm, I am confident that we will overcome any obstacles that come our way. Together, we will build a Zambia that is not only prosperous but also just and equitable for all.

In closing, let us rally behind our president and continue to advocate for the change that our country so desperately needs. The future is bright, and with our collective efforts, we will ensure that the voice of the people is heard loud and clear.

Congratulations once again to Dr. Harry Kalaba and to all members of the Citizens First Party. Together, we will forge a new path for Zambia.

                              Yours in service,

                              MUNTHALI FAITH.
