National Assembly to Debate Motion on Mining Companies Producing Own Electricity

….as the entire country waits to see the way the ruling Members of Parliement will vote in this very progressive motion….

Lusaka, 14th October 2024

Kamfinsa Member of Parliamnet Hon.  Christopher Kang’ombe, MP, is set to be debated on Wednesday, 16th October 2024 will today move a motion asking government to request Large-Scale Mining Companies to Produce Electricity for Their Production.

The motion urges the government to revise mining regulations, calling on large-scale mining companies to produce at least 50% of the electricity required for their operations. This move comes amid growing concerns about the heavy dependence of mining companies on the national grid, which has been strained due to rising electricity demand across various sectors.

If the motion is passed, it would mark a significant policy shift aimed at reducing the burden on Zambia’s electricity supply, ensuring that more power is available for households and small businesses. Proponents of the motion believe that requiring mining companies to generate a portion of their own electricity would not only relieve pressure on the national grid but also encourage the development of independent power projects in the country.

This debate comes at a time when Zambia’s energy sector is facing challenges, including intermittent power supply and the increasing cost of electricity. Mining companies, which are some of the largest consumers of electricity in the country, have been heavily criticized for their reliance on subsidized power while contributing minimally to energy production.

The motion is expected to generate significant discussion in the House, as stakeholders weigh the potential benefits of this initiative against the costs that may be incurred by mining companies in setting up independent power generation systems.

The outcome of this debate could set a precedent for how the government approaches the regulation of the mining sector, particularly in relation to energy consumption and production.

Mr. Kang’ombe’s initiative demonstrates the growing momentum for energy reform in Zambia and aligns with global trends where industries are encouraged to contribute to sustainable energy solutions.

Zambia Army Commander Confers with US Army Chief of Staff, Gen Randy George

Zambia Army Commander Confers with US Army Chief of Staff, Gen Randy George

By Buffalo Reporter

Washington, DC

Commander Zambia Army, Lt General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele has continued to engage strategic partners at the Association of United States Army annual meeting in Washington, DC.

The Commander Zambia Army had a fruitful sideline discussion with the United States 41st Army Chief of Staff, General Randy George.

During the engagement, Lt Gen Zyeele reiterated his commitment to have Officers and Soldiers attend Military studies in the United States.

“With the initiation of our State Partnership programme, it is my desire that our long standing partnership improves and that the US consistently offer training slots for our officers and soldiers,” Lt Gen Zyeele said.

He added that in his modernisation programme, part of his priorities was the Non Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Junior Leadership development programme.

“As we embark on our modernisation programme, we need a paradigm shift in Militarism. We need Officers and men who can discern the strategic eenvironment despite it being characterised by volatility, uncertainity, complex and ambiguity.

The fog and friction of modern warfare need officers and men who see warfare through a better military prism which can only be achieved if both officers and soldiers are well grounded at all levels,” the Commander Zambia Army said.

And Gen George who is at the helm of the United states Army said he was happy that Lt Gen Zyeele had travelled to the USA. He said the US Army was determined to continue offering partners such as the Zambia Army training opportunities in order to build capacity.

He said he would be more than happy to accord Zambia Army Officers and men opportunities to study in the US just as the Commander Zambia Army,  Lt Gen Zyeele did.

The Commander Zambia Army did his Infantry Officers Advanced Course at Fort Bennning in 1997, and the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 2014.

Before his elevation as Chief of Army Staff, General George served as Vice Chief of Staff and Army Corps Commander respectively.

The Commander Zambia Army further had interactions with Ghana’s Chief of Defence, Lt Gen Thomas Oppong- Pepra who ackwoledged Zambia’s Female Engagement Team (FET) roel in PeaceKeeping Operataions.

It must be noted that Ghanaian and Zambia Army were last year in December chosen by the US as the two countries to try the first ever Female Body Armour that has been specifially designed for female fighters.

This was announced at the United Nations Ministerial meeting in Accra, Ghana in December 2023 where the Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary and the Army Commander ( Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff by then) were key note speakers

Soulja Boy Gives Flowers To Ludacris For Flying A Plane Before Him

Soulja Boy is not a humble rapper. He doesn’t like to give peers their due, and oftentimes will start fights just to garner attention. There have been a few major exceptions, though.

Soulja Boy apologized to Metro Boomin after he insulted the producer’s late mother. He acknowledged that he took things a bit too far with his social media comments. Now, Soulja Boy has given flowers to Ludacris. The circumstances in which he admitted being wrong are much less serious than the Metro situation, but we still have to give credit where it’s due.

The whole situation stemmed from a bold Soulja Boy claim. He makes a lot of them. He claimed that he was the first rapper to fly a plane during an Instagram video he posted on October 13. Ludacris saw the post, and left a thinking emoji, prompting fans to do some digging.

It turns out, Ludacris had beaten the “Crank That” star to the punch. A scroll through Luda’s Instagram confirmed that he had flown a plane back in 2021. Soulja Boy could have easily gone off on Ludacris for stealing his thunder, and trying to make a feud out of effectively nothing. Instead, he took it in stride. “I just saw your video,” he replied. “You did it first.”

If this sounds like a more mature Soulja, it’s by design. The rapper admitted disappointment in himself following the aforementioned Metro Boomin debacle. The internet was pretty uniformly disappointed in Soulja Boy for his harsh comments, and he made a change. He tweeted out that he would be seeking professional help as a means of keeping his emotions in check. “I apologize to @MetroBoomin for over reacting over an old tweet,” he wrote. “Condolences to his mom. I’m going to seek therapy and anger management. I’m done responding to hate, new or old.”

This newfound maturity does not seemingly apply to everyone, though. After Diddy was arrested, Soulja Boy made it clear that he would not have tolerated any of the mogul’s alleged antics. “If Diddy ever tried me like any of these gay rappers I would have killed his btch as,” he tweeted. He also claimed to have a story about the night he spent with Diddy and Cassie, but has yet to share it publicly.

Rihanna: All The Business Partnerships That Have Contributed To The Entertainer’s Billionaire Status

Let’s take a look at the business decisions that turned Rihanna from a pop princess to a billionaire. Follow along as we explore all of her business journey’s successful partnerships and collaborations.

Forbes estimates that Rihanna’s net worth stands at $1.7 billion.

She was the second richest female entertainer, after Oprah Winfrey, and the only musician who was recognized by Forbes as a billionaire, until Taylor Swift overlooked her a few days ago.

Her stake in the self-titled beauty company Fenty is currently valued at $1.4 billion; the company is reportedly valued at $3 billion overall.

By transitioning from being a celebrity ambassador to a brand owner, Rihanna acquired stakes in billion-dollar companies.

Through her years of involvement in fashion business dealings, she has gone from creating her own collection with UK high street shop River Island to producing shoes with Manolo Blahnik.

Having said that, the following timeline details the fashion and cosmetics collaborations that helped her become one of the richest female singers globally.

Armani – Year: 2011
2011 saw Rihanna launch her debut fashion collection in collaboration with Armani Jeans and Emporio Armani Underwear. Shortly after she starred in Armani’s Fall/Winter 2011 campaign, the partnership was announced.

Slender jeans, graphic T-shirts, leather motorcycle jackets, and undergarments were all part of Rihanna’s debut collection for Armani. The next year, she continued to work with Armani to design one more collection.

Despite their brief partnership, Rihanna and Armani’s work undoubtedly cleared the path for other projects.

River Island – Year: 2013
Following her partnership with Armani, Rihanna contributed her creative skills to the clothing company River Island, situated in London.

Her first collection featured long sheer dresses with flowery prints, boiler suits, cut skirts, midriff shirts, leather trucker hats adorned with jewels, gray baseball jackets with leather sleeves, and layered denim jeans.

Her second collection for the company had more streetwear-inspired looks.

Puma – Year: 2014
The Bavarian company Puma announced in 2014 that Rihanna would serve as the creative director for its women’s collections, in a deal that is believed to be valued at more than $1 million.

The Fenty X Puma line, which featured her distinctive Puma Creepers that sold out in just three hours and increased US sales of Puma women’s shoes by 40%, was one of her successful partnerships with the company.

Stance -Year: 2015
Not exactly the first company you would assume Rihanna would officially partner with, but the two did officially join forces back in 2015. Stance is a well-known retailer of socks.

Rihanna demonstrated her creative power during the collaboration with pieces like fur-striped knee-high dresses, stockings with bows scaling the back of each leg, and sparkling lurex ankle socks with jingle bells around the ankle.

Manolo Blahnik – Year: 2016
Following her partnership with Puma, Rihanna went after a more exclusive shoe partnership with Spanish designer Manolo Blahnik.

A pair of thigh-high denim holster boots, which Blahnik claimed he had never considered working with before Rihanna arrived, summed up the duo’s debut collaboration.

Her thigh-high boots were a recurring theme in the second collection, and her last shoe design with Blahnik included shoes with rhinestone embellishments.

Dior – Year: 2016
When Rihanna starred in Dior’s “Secret Garden IV” campaign in 2015, she made history as the brand’s first Black ambassador.

One year after the historic partnership, Rihanna co-created a line of futuristic sunglasses with the company, subsequently becoming the first brand ambassador to launch a line of her own with the luxury brand.

Although Rihanna and Dior have not revealed the whole value of the partnership, it was a significant step away from Rihanna endorsing a brand and toward her own launch.

Chopard – Year: 2017
In May 2017, Rihanna collaborated with Swiss luxury jewelry brand Chopard to bring her perspective to the jewelry industry.

Inspired by her native Barbados, the nine-piece “Rihanna Love Chopard” collection included necklaces with rose gold and jungle green blocks, earrings with colorful gemstones suspended from flowers and butterflies, and 18-karat white ethical gold earrings certified as “Fairmined” diamonds.

Fenty Beauty – Year: 2017
Rihanna obtained a contract in 2016 to create the Fenty Beauty beauty collection through Kendo, an LVMH subsidiary.

Dedicated to upending the established beauty industry’s norms, Rihanna introduced the now-iconic Fenty Beauty line in 2017 with 40 foundation hues that covered the gamut of skincare needs.

After becoming well-known, the Fenty Beauty brand was included in Time Magazine’s list of the 25 Best Technology of 2017.

Savage X Fenty – Year: 2018
In 2018, a year following the debut of Fenty Beauty, Rihanna introduced her Savage x Fenty lingerie line.

The line celebrated all different kinds of bodies and sought to move the story in the direction of inclusivity and diversity.

TechStyle Fashion Group, the business behind direct-to-consumer brands like JustFab, FabKids, ShoeDazzle, and Fabletics, co-owns the brand. Additionally,

She collaborated with Amazon to make the Savage x Fenty fashion more accessible.

Fenty (LVMH) – Year: 2019
After Rihanna was seen in January 2019 sporting sunglasses bearing the Fenty logo, rumors circulated that she was establishing a whole line of clothing under the LVMH brand.

In a statement at the time, Rihanna expressed her appreciation to Bernard Arnault, the chairman and CEO of LVMH, saying,

“Mr. Arnault has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits.”

In terms of creativity and business, I can’t think of a better partner, and I can’t wait for the world to see what we have created together.

On February 10, 2021, LVMH did, however, declare that they would halt the line.

Fenty Skin Care – Year: 2020
In 2020, Fenty Skin, a skincare product, was introduced by Rihanna, further expanding her business empire.

It was estimated at the time that the brand had amassed $30 million in sales on its online store in less than four months. demonstrating the Fenty brand’s phenomenal success in the future.

Diesel – Year: 2024
Rihanna sent the internet into a tizzy when she posted a new photo of herself on Instagram to announce a limited-edition collaboration between her brand, Savage X Fenty, and Italian fashion house Diesel.

This collaboration marks Diesel’s first foray into lingerie and promises to introduce a jaw-dropping limited-edition lingerie and apparel capsule designed under the creative direction of Rihanna.

The collection is available now in select Diesel and Savage X Fenty retail locations, at savagex.com and on diesel.com.

Lupita Nyong’o In Love With Her Cat After Breakup With Boyfriend

0

Actress Lupita Nyong’o has confirmed a breakup with her boyfriend, indicating that the only love in her life, at the moment, is her cat.

The 41-year-old television personality was said to be dating a man called Joshua Jackson, but their love affair ended recently. She disclosed this in an interview with UK Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, and noted her renewed affection for her pet, “Yoyo”.

“My love for my cat is singular….If I’m ever so lucky to be in a romantic relationship again, it’ll be because of him. I was ready to shut that door lock it and bolt it. He has ensured that my heart remains open,” she told the publication.

Nyong’o reportedly adopted the pet [Yoyo] in 2023. The actress and her fling, Jackson, were said to have been making progress until they both went silent recently.

The now ex-boyfriend is believed to have found someone new, and the Wild Robot actress believes her healing process will take some time.

“It’s hard enough to go through heartbreak privately…When the world has an image of you in relation to someone else, it prolongs the healing process because the memory is emblazoned in the public domain,” she was quoted.

In September this year, the award-winning performer spoke about her role in the production of the new movie, Wild Robot, released on September 27, and lessons learned from being the main voice on the project.

The film, based on the book by Peter Brown, tells the story of a robot that was shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings.

Speaking about her appearance in the movie, Lupita said she prepared for the voice acting role just like she would prepare for any other movie.

“I think a lot of the preparation is similar to being on camera, the difference though is that the only tool to have to convey my message is my voice, so I have to develop a vocal vocabulary to do that, and that is its special kind of creative exploration,” she stated in an interview with GlobalGrind.

“I would say also what’s unique about doing voice, is that unlike live action, where on any given day you’re working on a scene or two, in vocal work you are working on every part of the movie every time you’re in the booth, so it’s all over the place. It’s a workout, but I enjoy that kind of challenge,” she added.

Didier Deschamps breaks silence on Kylian Mbappe r@pe allegation

0

France coach Didier Deschamps has reacted to a report claiming captain Kylian Mbappe is being investigated for r@pe in Sweden.

‘Everyone is free to write what they want but there is a negative atmosphere’ around the French team, Deschamps told reporters following his team’s 2-1 win over Belgium in the UEFA Nations League last night.

His comments came in response to questions about Mbappe, the France skipper who was allowed to sit out the team’s games this month in order to work on his fitness.

After Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported that an alleged r@pe had been reported to police but did not say who was accused, another publication, Expressen, said 25-year-old Mbappe was the suspect.

‘Be careful when you pick things up,’ Deschamps warned.

‘You had better take a bit of a step back before publishing anything and everything, but these things happen so often,’ he said, appearing to cast doubt on the report.

Deschamps added: ‘There are things that are not difficult to verify, but if you credit any old thing…

In any case, I am not going to talk to him about it. He is big enough to know how to communicate.’

The footballer was visiting Sweden with friends from Wednesday to Friday last week, staying at the Bank Hotel in the city centre.

On Thursday, the Real Madrid star visited the Chez Jolie restaurant, before heading to the V nightclub and finally back to his hotel in a black van with his entourage.

Aftonbladet reported that police were investigating a rape at the central Stockholm hotel, which allegedly happened Thursday night.

But Mbappe shared a newspaper article on the alleged rape on X and wrote: ‘Fake News! It’s becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance,’ referring to a hearing as part of his fight against his former club PSG over £46million in unpaid wages and bonuses that is set to take place today.

Mbappe’s entourage said in a statement sent to AFP: ‘Today, a new slanderous rumour is starting to spread across the web from the Swedish media Aftonbladet.

‘These accusations are completely false and irresponsible, and their propagation is unacceptable.

‘In order to put an end to this methodical destruction of (the) image (of Kylian Mbappe), all necessary legal actions will be taken to re-establish the truth and pursue any person or media involved in the moral harassment and defamatory treatment that Kylian Mbappe is suffering repeatedly,’ the statement added.

A source close to Paris Saint-Germain told AFP it would ‘ignore’ Mbappe’s claim that there was a link between the report in Sweden and his dispute with the club.

Chris Brown concert shines spotlight on violence against women in South Africa

0

Chris Brown’s forthcoming concert in South Africa has led to renewed focus on the country’s shocking levels of violence against women, with campaigners saying it sends the wrong message given his history of abuse.

In less than two hours, the Grammy-winner managed to sell out tickets to the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg – the largest stadium in Africa with over 94,000 seats. Demand was so high that a second December date was added.

Despite the massive interest, the R ‘n’ B star has experienced a backlash from people who did not want him to perform due to his violent past.

“When I saw the news that Chris Brown was coming to South Africa, I was shocked and deeply disappointed,” said Sabina Walter, executive director of Women for Change, an organisation that advocates for the rights of women and children in South Africa.

The group has started a petition to stop the US artist from performing. It currently has over 20,000 signatures.

“The petition was started to send a strong message that we will not tolerate the celebration of individuals with a history of violence against women,” said Ms Walter, especially in a country like South Africa.

South Africa has one of the highest rates of femicide and gender-based violence in the world.

A rape is reported in the country roughly every 12 minutes and it is assumed that many more go unrecorded.

“When someone like Chris Brown is given a platform in a country where GBV is at crisis levels, it sends a damaging message – that fame and power outweigh accountability,” said Ms Walters.

The most well-known instance in Chris Brown’s history of abuse is the domestic dispute with singer Rihanna in 2009.

Chris Brown, who was 19 at the time, pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to five years probation, community service and domestic violence counselling.

Although Rihanna forgave him and the pair briefly dated again after the incident, Chris Brown has also been accused of violence by other women – and men.

Women for Change says it wants to know how the Department of Home Affairs could grant “a convicted abuser” a visa.

For Ms Walter, the decision is “concerning and indicative of a systemic failure”.

According to South African law, having a previous conviction can result in a visa being denied. But there can be an exception for “good cause” and those are cleared by the Director General of the Department of Home Affairs.

Chris Brown has previously been banned from entering other countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, although he has subsequently gone on to play in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.

But his South African fans are undeterred.

Former University of Cape Town vice-chancellor Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng shared on X that she would be attending the Chris Brown concert.

“I am totally against GBV and condemn it. I believe that those who perpetrate GBV should face the full might of the law without exceptions or leniency.

“But let me be clear, just in case the message didn’t sit well: I am going to attend Brown’s concert if he comes. These two things are not mutually exclusive.

“To suggest that enjoying a concert aligns you with every past action of the artist is, at best, simplistic and, at worst, intellectually dishonest,” she said.

Prof Phakeng explained that “music is bigger than the individual”.

She added that boycotting Chris Brown’s concert wouldn’t end GBV in South Africa.

“Attending the concert does not magically erase our moral stance on GBV.”

Although this is not Chris Brown’s first concert in South Africa, there is huge excitement among his fans.

One said on X: “Chris Brown coming to South Africa??… I’ll take a loan for a meet & greet.”

“Chris Brown you don’t know us yet… but my wife and I will be those two microscopic fans in the stands singing and dancing to every jam!!!!” said another.

Ms Waters said she had even received threats because of her campaign against the US star.

“Supporters of Chris Brown seem ready to defend him at any cost,” she said.

“The criticism we are facing for our petition speaks volumes and actually reveals a deep disconnect in how we, as a society, view violence against women.”

She said that too often people were willing to “excuse abusive” behaviour when it comes to celebrities they admire.

Selective outrage is dangerous because it perpetuates the rape culture and high levels of violence women face every day, said Ms Walters.

President Cyril Ramaphosa accepts that South Africa has a huge problem with gender-based violence and in August, he called on the country’s men to take a stand.

“Our ultimate goal is to end gender-based violence altogether,” he said.

Yet this goal remains a distant one – little has changed five years after he called for action to tackle the country’s “rape crisis”.

This year alone, Women for Change has honoured over 200 women who have lost their lives to femicide.

“This fight isn’t just about this concert. It’s about changing the narrative in South Africa, where abusers are held accountable and where violence against women is never excused, overlooked, or forgotten.”

Why there’s a rush of African satellite launches

0

One by one, the satellites – each of them encrusted with a hodge-podge of solar panels and other gizmos – detached from their mothership.

They had blasted off from Earth just an hour earlier, on 16 August. The 116 satellites onboard the launch vehicle were mostly designed and built by Western nations and businesses – but one of them was different.

It was the first such spacecraft ever developed by the African country of Senegal.

A small CubeSat called GaindeSAT-1A, it will provide earth observation and telecommunications services. Senegal’s president called it a big step towards “technological sovereignty”.

The cost of launching a satellite has fallen significantly in recent years, says Kwaku Sumah, founder and managing director at Spacehubs Africa, a space consultancy.

“That reduction in cost has opened the market up,” he adds. “These smaller nations… now have the opportunity to get involved.”

To date, a total of 17 African countries have put more than 60 satellites into orbit and, along with Senegal, both Djibouti and Zimbabwe have also watched their first satellites become operational during the past 12 months. Dozens more African satellites are expected to go into orbit in the coming years.

And yet, the continent currently has no space launch facilities of its own.

Plus, powerful countries elsewhere in the world are arguably using nascent African space programmes as a means of building relationships and asserting their geopolitical dominance more broadly.

Can more African nations chart their own way into orbit – and beyond?

“It’s important for African countries to have their own satellites,” says Mr Sumah. He argues that it means better control over the technology and easier access to satellite data.

This information could help Africans monitor crops, detect threats posed by extreme weather such as floods, or improve telecommunications in remote areas, he adds.

But boldly going to space is still seen as “something for the elite” in Africa, says Jessie Ndaba, co-founder and managing director at Astrofica Technologies, a space tech firm in South Africa that designs satellites. Business at her firm remains “very slow” overall, she adds.

Given the massive threat posed to the continent by climate change, space tech should be used to monitor food and resources, she suggests. An African space race to reach the moon or Mars, in contrast, wouldn’t be helpful: “We’ve got to look at the challenges that we have in Africa and find ways of solving those.”

For Sarah Kimani, of the Kenyan Meteorological Department, satellites have proved invaluable in helping her and her colleagues track dangerous weather conditions. She recalls using earth observation data provided by Eumetsat, a European satellite agency, to monitor a major dust storm in March. “We were able to tell the direction of this dust storm,” she says.

Later this year, she and her colleagues will begin receiving data from the latest generation of Eumetsat spacecraft, which will provide wildfire and lightning monitoring tools among other benefits. “It will help us improve our early warning systems,” adds Ms Kimani, noting that the collaboration with Eumetsat has been “very efficient and effective”.

Climate change brings meteorological threats that can emerge rapidly – from major storms to extreme drought. “The intensity of these hazards… is changing,” says Ms Kimani, noting that satellite data that could be updated as frequently as every five minutes, or less, would help meteorologists track such phenomena.

She also argues that Kenya – which put its first operational earth observation satellite into orbit last year – would benefit from having more of its own meteorological spacecraft in the future. As would other African countries in general. “Only Africa understands her own needs,” says Ms Kimani.

Currently, many African nations with young space programmes are dependent on foreign technology and experts, says Temidayo Oniosun, managing director of Space in Africa, a market research and consulting company.

Some countries have sent students and engineers abroad to pick up space tech know-how. “The problem is, when these guys come back, there is no laboratory, no facility for them,” says Mr Oniosun.

Senegal’s new satellite was built by Senegalese technicians. While not wanting to detract from their significant achievement, it is worth noting that development of the satellite was made possible through a partnership with a French university, and that the spacecraft was launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from California.

Europe, China and the US have all involved themselves in numerous African space programmes. This has helped boost African technology into orbit, for sure, but it has also served as a “critical diplomatic tool”, says Mr Oniosun. It makes him “a little worried”, he admits.

Observers have suggested that African space programmes are not just about getting African nations into space – they are also, to some extent, arenas where some of the world’s most powerful countries compete with one another.

Mr Sumah is positive about the situation. “We can… play these different powers against each other to get the best deals,” he says.

Officials in both the US and China have considered the “strategic” implications of involving themselves in African space endeavours, says Julie Klinger, at the University of Delaware.

“That does bring with it an intensifying need for updating global treaties and strategies around maintaining a peaceful and manageable space environment,” she adds.

But there are opportunities, too. Dr Klinger notes that space launches from equatorial regions – which may not require as much fuel – could mean that African space ports have an important role to play in the coming decades.

The Luigi Broglio Space Center, an old Italian-built space port including a sea platform off the coast of Kenya, could be brought back into service one day, for example. The last launches there took place in the 1980s.

Ultimately, we can expect to see rising activity in space from African nations. “We’ve got close to 80 satellites that are currently in development,” says Mr Oniosun, “I think the future of the industry is very bright.”

Hichilema’s Leadership is Under Attack by Stephen Lock’s Political Vendetta Masquerading as Facts

Hichilema’s Leadership is Under Attack by Stephen Lock’s Political Vendetta Masquerading as Facts

By Dr. Catherine Frazha Benkele Mulaisho

Stephen Lock’s article published in the International Policy Digest is nothing short of a disingenuous attempt to derail Zambia’s progress by fabricating half-truths, manipulating facts, and packaging them as insightful analysis. While it may be palatable to Western observers who are too far removed to discern the political realities on the ground, Zambians, who live and breathe these circumstances every day, see through such charades.

Lock’s portrayal of President Hakainde Hichilema, as a “favorite African leader coming unstuck” is not only misleading but appears to be driven by an ulterior motive aimed at undermining the credibility of a man whose leadership has been recognized globally for its strides in steering Zambia towards a path of economic recovery and democratic consolidation.

Lock conveniently glosses over the fact that Zambia’s current economic challenges are a direct consequence of years of reckless borrowing and corrupt financial management under the previous Patriotic Front government, led by former President Edgar Lungu. Zambia’s ballooning debt—over $18 billion, as Lock mentions—was not accrued by the Hichilema administration but was inherited.

What Hichilema inherited was a near-bankrupt country on the verge of economic collapse. This context is crucial, yet Lock paints it as if Zambia’s economic woes began in August 2021 when Hichilema took office.

In reality, Hichilema’s administration has worked tirelessly to renegotiate Zambia’s debt. The recent debt restructuring deal involving China—secured through diplomatic and strategic negotiations—was a significant breakthrough.

Lock downplays this achievement by highlighting Zambia’s debt situation without appreciating the complexity of untangling the mess left behind by the Lungu regime. The challenges Hichilema faces are not unique, and to ignore the global economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, inflationary pressures, and the war in Ukraine on Zambia’s economy is irresponsible.

Lock’s commentary on inflation and currency depreciation demonstrates either a lack of understanding of global economic trends or deliberate oversimplification. Zambia’s inflation, while higher than the central bank’s target, is reflective of broader international trends exacerbated by external shocks such as rising oil prices, disruptions in global supply chains, and climate-related disasters, including severe droughts that have affected agricultural output.

These are not issues unique to Zambia or indicative of governmental mismanagement but are part of a larger pattern affecting many African economies.

While Lock criticizes the sale of maize, he conveniently ignores the strategic importance of such decisions in managing foreign exchange reserves and maintaining diplomatic relations with neighboring countries that depend on Zambia’s agricultural exports. Zambia’s agricultural challenges, including food shortages, are largely a result of unpredictable weather patterns—a factor Lock fails to acknowledge with any seriousness.

It is disingenuous for Lock to allege that the Hichilema administration is “reverting to old habits” of corruption. Under Hichilema’s leadership, Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has gained significant momentum, pursuing cases with unprecedented vigor, even when high-ranking officials are implicated. The resignation of the ACC Director General, Thom Trevor Shamakamba, whom Lock mentions, is evidence of accountability—something that was notably absent under the previous PF regime, where corruption was endemic and unchecked.

The allegations against Solicitor General Marshal Muchende and other officials Lock references are either politically motivated or unsubstantiated, serving only to fuel the narrative of a government backsliding into corruption.

Unlike under the previous regime, where corruption was swept under the rug, the Hichilema administration is confronting these challenges head-on, demonstrating a clear commitment to transparency and justice.

Lock’s insinuation that President Hichilema is maneuvering to delay the 2026 elections by citing “constitutional lacunae” is nothing but baseless fear-mongering.

Hichilema has repeatedly expressed his commitment to strengthening Zambia’s democratic institutions and has no history of manipulating the constitution for political gain. The Zambian constitution, like any other, requires periodic amendments to address emerging challenges, and raising such issues early in the electoral cycle is a sign of responsibility, not a power grab.

Lock’s claim that the Hichilema government is using the judiciary to stifle opposition is laughable, especially coming from someone who has likely turned a blind eye to the rampant abuse of the legal system under Lungu’s administration.

The PF was notorious for arresting opposition members, silencing dissent, and using state machinery to intimidate political rivals.

Under Hichilema, Zambia has seen a significant reduction in politically motivated violence, and the judiciary has operated with far more independence than in previous years.

The case of MP Jay Jay Banda, as presented by Lock, is yet another example of cherry-picking incidents to fit a pre-determined narrative.

The claims regarding his abduction, while serious, are still under investigation, and until all facts are known, it is premature and irresponsible to level accusations against the government or police.

Lock’s inclusion of Mubita Nawa’s alleged involvement in a kidnapping scandal reeks of a smear campaign designed to discredit one of Zambia’s most prominent law enforcement figures.

Nawa’s bid for the Secretary General position of INTERPOL, backed by the African Union, has drawn the ire of those who fear an African at the helm of such a powerful institution.

The timing of these allegations, just as Nawa’s candidacy gained traction, is suspect, and the accusations are, at best, spurious and at worst, politically motivated.

Zambia’s police force has categorically denied the claims, and the suggestion that Nawa is involved in any wrongdoing is more a reflection of geopolitical maneuvering than a genuine concern for justice.

Stephen Lock’s article, while couched in the veneer of thoughtful analysis, is nothing more than a thinly veiled attack on Zambia’s leadership.

The Hichilema administration, though not without its challenges, has made significant strides in tackling the mess left behind by the previous government.

*Rather than undermining these efforts with baseless allegations and half-truths, international commentators like Lock would do well to appreciate the complexities of governance in a post-colonial, economically challenged African nation like Zambia.*

Hichilema’s leadership is far from “coming unstuck.” Rather, it is navigating treacherous waters with integrity, foresight, and a commitment to uplifting the Zambian people from years of economic mismanagement and political corruption.

Zambians understand this, and no amount of foreign misinformation will distort the reality on the ground.

UKA TO FULLY PARTICIPATE IN THE NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AND FASTING

LUSAKA-Tuesday, October 15, 2024

The United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) Council of Presidents (CoP) has resolved that all its member political parties should fully participate in observing the National Day of Prayer, Fasting and Reconciliation, which falls on Friday, October 18, 2024.

The commemoration of this important national holiday is in tune with Zambia’s declaration as a Christian nation as outlined in the preamble of our Republican Constitution, which states:

“ WE, the people of Zambia:
ACKNOWLEDGE the supremacy of God Almighty; DECLARE the Republic a Christian Nation while upholding a person’s right to freedom of conscience, belief or religion.”

It is in this spirit that we urge our member parties to participate in events to observe the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, and Reconciliation. For the bible says in Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

We note that the commemoration of this important day comes at a time when the country is beset with economic challenges exacerbated by:

1. High cost of living;
2.  Load shedding;
3. Poverty;
4.  Drought;
5. Political tension fueled  by arbitrary arrests and detentions; and
6. Divisions on tribal lines

In this regard, it is important for the nation to fervently seek God’s intervention and wisdom to encourage citizens who have given up in despair due to economic hardships, poverty, segregation, and drought, while others are on the verge of starvation.

As UKA, we urge all political players including the New Dawn administration to use the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, and Reconciliation to seek true reconciliation and national unity not only by words but also through deeds.

The theme: “Building Resilience, Unity and Hard Work Through Prayer: Our Heritage, Our Future” resonates with our call for national unity, resilience and hard work in the face of challenges affecting the country.

It is our firm belief that with God, the challenges affecting our great nation are surmountable as long as leaders and ordinary Zambians genuinely seek the face of God and embrace unity, honesty, and integrity in dealing with issues of national interest.

In conclusion, we trust that unity in diversity and God’s grace is what will make Zambia great again. As the saying goes “what unites us is greater than what divides us.”

CELEBRATING ZAMBIA’S 1OO YEARS OF MINING

0

CELEBRATING ZAMBIA’S 1OO YEARS OF MINING..

I would like to urge Paul Kabuswe and president Hakainde Hichilema that such events should not just be  ceremonial for speeches only but to produce, tangible results to benefit the  country.

Though ambitious Paul Kabuswe  organised it in such a manner that it falls during his month of birthday  to woodwink the stakeholders to celebrate with him, you may not have noticed Mr president cause your brain moves faster than your mouth like you said, anyway let me dive into the main issue..

Narrowing focus on boosting copper production to more than 3 million tonnes, without clear policies to attain tangible strides to benefit the country it’s like chasing after the wind. knowing that, the benefit it’s not for mothers Zambia but the colonial masters who have come in the name of investors.

While copper is crucial, our mineral wealth extends beyond this single resource. What about our significant deposits of sugilite, emerald, manganise and gold?

Don’t you think that these resources deserve equal attention and strategic development plans as well?

Because neglecting those minerals is an hindrance to economic growth, Zambia has ample opportunities to develop.

Looking at emerald, gold, sugilite and manganese deposits, these minerals can drive economic growth and improve lives of the people if there is prudent management.

Hence our conversations should center around diversifying our mineral resources, not just copper only while these other minerals are neglected deliberately  swept under the carpet,  only  to  benefit politicians, reaching to an extent of turning Gold into copper what a shame.

Lets develop a comprehensive mining policy promoting diversification, to boost local economic development, and fair salaries for miners, more especially if their salaries can be in US Dollars across the board like our neighbouring
Countries are doing.

It’s quite imparetive to prioritize transparency, accountability, and  inclusive development to ensure our mineral resources benefit all Zambians.

Let’s work towards making mining a catalyst for national prosperity.  With visionary and prudent leadership looking at our natural resources we have, loadshading could have been the thing of the past by now.

With patriotic leadership and prudent management, of mineral resources such as sugilite  Gold,  emarold and manganese its possible to build one or two hidro power generation plants from luapula and northern region.

I implore you to remove political lances, and start thinking outside the box.  Increasing electricity tariffs to punish and continue milking the already oppressed people amidst abundance of God given resources to benefit every Zambian it’s an acceptable and immoral.

Mr president if this is the champions league and fixing you ment then it’s out of this world remember majority Zambians trusted you, looking at the way you presented yourself during opposition but truth be told you haven’t made any positive strides in terms of ameliorating the challenges affecting majority Zambians and prove that you are equal to the task.

Let’s not forget that some businesses  depend heavily on electricity  such as  barber shops, saloons, welding… etc.. yet you are preaching about economic growth forgetting that the small scale businesses contribute greatly to economic growth yet those businesses are dying forcing people into destitution. I submit Nakalebalika Zambia wechalo chaba kilisitu…

FAZ WAITING ON TECHNICAL REPORT AS EVANS KANGWA HEADS BACK TO CHINA – FOCUS NOW ON WHOEVER IS LEFT IN CAMP

FAZ WAITING ON TECHNICAL REPORT AS EVANS KANGWA HEADS BACK TO CHINA – FOCUS NOW ON WHOEVER IS LEFT IN CAMP

With 10 key players out, Zambia prepares for the Chad clash with hope, prayers, and a bit of confusion.

Lusaka, Zambia, October 14 – The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that it is waiting for an official report from the technical bench regarding the abrupt departure of Evans Kangwa from camp. Kangwa, who was expected to feature in the upcoming qualifiers, left for China over the weekend, leaving both fans and officials scratching their heads.

Speaking to reporters, FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga deflected concerns about Kangwa’s sudden exit. “We will wait for a report from the technical bench. But focus now should be on the players that are in camp and not those that are away,” said Kamanga, clearly hoping everyone would just stop asking awkward questions.

According to Kamanga, FAZ had communicated with Kangwa’s club, Qingdao Hainiu, to secure his release for the qualifiers, only for the player to board a plane early, leaving the team in limbo. “We wrote to Kangwa’s club to have him released for the two qualifiers, but he decided to leave early. We’ll wait to hear from the technical bench,” Kamanga added, as if hoping the report might somehow explain it all away.

Fans were quick to speculate that Kangwa’s early departure was fueled by frustration after being benched in the previous match. “An unused substitute is still a substitute,” Kamanga seemed to imply, dodging the obvious question of whether Kangwa was just fed up with watching instead of playing.

Meanwhile, Clatous Chama, another key player, was granted permission to attend to a “family commitment,” which many suspect might just be a tactical way to avoid the drama altogether.

Zambia’s national team is now preparing to face Chad with a skeleton squad, as a total of 10 key players have dropped out for various reasons. Joining Kangwa and Chama on the list of absentees are Lawrence Mulenga, Stopilla Sunzu, Lubambo Musonda, Miguel Chaiwa, Lameck Banda, Edward Chilufya, Patson Daka, and Fashion Sakala.

With so many missing stars, Zambia’s strategy seems to have shifted from “qualify at all costs” to “let’s just show up.” Insiders report that the technical bench is now trying to figure out if they still have enough players to field a proper team. “We’re calling it the ‘Whatever XI’ for now,” joked an anonymous source.

As fans speculate about the chaos in camp, Kamanga remained optimistic: “We will focus on the players in camp,” he insisted, though it was unclear whether he meant the actual players or just anyone who still had a pair of boots on hand.

Zambia’s showdown with Chad is set for tomorrow, and the nation will be watching—if only to see who turns up.

Trump goes even at 48% with Kamala Harris in new poll

0

Former US President, Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are deadlocked in the latest national NBC News poll, with the network saying that Trump was bolstered by foreign-based Republicans coming back to the US to support him after last month’s debate as well as by favourable voter assessment of Trump’s term as president.

The new survey released three weeks before Election Day, also shows Harris’ popularity has declined compared to a month ago, after she got a big summertime boost; a massive gender gap between support for Harris and Trump; and voters viewing abortion as a top motivating issue heading into the 2024 vote.

“As summer has turned to fall, any signs of momentum for Kamala Harris have stopped,” said Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff. “The race is a dead heat.”

The race is a d3ad beat – Pollsters say as Trump goes even at 48% with Kamala Harris in new poll

McInturff said “headwinds” for Harris have helped narrow the presidential contest, including concerns that the vice president doesn’t represent a change from President Joe Biden and voters seeing Trump’s presidency in a more positive light than Biden’s.

“She is asking for another term from the incumbent party,” McInturff said of Harris.

Still, underlining the poll is uncertainty about the election (with 10% of voters saying they might change their minds and a sliver of unclaimed voters still on the fence), an all-time-high share of voters believing that this presidential election will make “a great deal of difference” in their lives, and key challenges for both Harris and Trump.

The third-party (Independent Party) vote could play a role, as Trump gets a small boost when third-party candidates are included in the ballot test, to a 1-point edge.

The challenge for Kamala Harris: Can she meet the moment and fill in the blanks that voters have about her?” asked Horwitt, the Democratic pollster.

“The challenge for Donald Trump: Can he make the case that the chaos and personal behaviour that bothered so many about his first term will not get in the way of governing and representing America?” he added.

“The next month will tell whether the candidates can meet these challenges,” Horwitt said.

In the new poll which was conducted October 4-8, Harris gets support from 48% of registered voters in a head-to-head matchup, while Trump gets an identical 48%. Another 4% say they are undecided or wouldn’t vote for either option when forced to choose between those two major-party candidates.

September’s NBC News poll found Harris leading Trump by 5 points, 49%-44%, though that result was within the margin of error.

An expanded ballot including third-party candidates also shows this shift, with 47% of registered voters in the new poll picking Trump, 46% supporting Harris and a combined 7% picking other candidates or saying they’re undecided.

In September, however, Harris held a 6-point lead on this ballot.

Given that close elections are often decided by which party better turns out its voters, the NBC News poll provides a snapshot of what could happen depending on different turnout scenarios.

Assuming a more favorable environment for Republicans which means slightly greater turnout among men, white voters and voters without college degrees, Trump leads Harris by 2 points, 49%-47%.

But assuming a more favourable turnout environment for Democrats which means more women, more white voters with college degrees and more voters of colour showing up to the polls — these survey results show Harris leading Trump by 3 points among registered voters, 49%-46%.

All of these results are within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

Kelvin Sampa Arrested for Fraud

Kelvin Sampa Arrested for Fraud.

Former Kasama Central Member of Parliament, Kelvin Mutale Sampa, has been arrested by the Zambia Police for obtaining money by false pretenses, despite his recent appointment to President Hakainde Hichilema’s Presidential Campaign Team, raising questions about the impact of his legal troubles on the ongoing political campaign.

According to a statement released by Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, Sampa, aged 52, of Plot 345, Meanwood Ibex Hill in Lusaka, is alleged to have fraudulently obtained USD 70,000 from Japanese nationals Mr. Kunihiro Fugishima and Ms. Yukie Nakamina, both associated with Nakamishi Company. The complaint states that Sampa, between July and September 2024, promised to supply refined gold sourced from Zambia but failed to deliver on the agreement, leading the victims to file a complaint with the authorities.

The victims had reportedly engaged in negotiations with Sampa and his associates, believing the deal to be legitimate. However, when the promised gold shipment never materialized, they sought legal recourse, prompting a police investigation. Following the investigation, which gathered evidence of the alleged fraud, Sampa was arrested and charged with obtaining money by false pretenses, a crime punishable under Section 309 of Zambia’s Penal Code.

Sampa has since been released on police bond, pending his court appearance, where he will face formal charges.

Sampa’s arrest comes at a crucial time in his political career, as he had recently been appointed to President Hakainde Hichilema’s Presidential Campaign Team. The appointment was seen as part of an effort to consolidate support across different political factions ahead of the next general elections. Sampa, who previously served as Kasama Central Member of Parliament under the Patriotic Front (PF), is a well-known political figure, and his inclusion in the campaign team was expected to bolster the president’s re-election efforts by attracting votes from Northern Zambia, where he has significant influence.

The arrest, however, casts a shadow over his political future and could prove to be a liability for the campaign. The ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has not yet issued an official statement on Sampa’s legal troubles or whether his role in the campaign will be affected by the ongoing criminal proceedings.

The charge of obtaining money by false pretenses is a serious offence according to the laws of Zambia. If convicted, Sampa could face a lengthy prison sentence, as well as hefty fines. Section 309 of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87, under which Sampa has been charged, deals with financial crimes involving deception, where a person deliberately misleads others for personal gain. The police have emphasized the importance of due diligence in business transactions, particularly when dealing with unfamiliar individuals or companies.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga reiterated the Zambia Police Service’s commitment to fighting fraud and financial crimes, urging the public to be cautious and report any suspicious dealings. He assured that thorough investigations would continue to ensure justice is served.

ZAWAPA Unveils Proposed Electoral Reforms at Ndola Civic Centre

ZAWAPA Unveils Proposed Electoral Reforms at Ndola Civic Centre

Ndola, Zambia – October 14, 2024: Zawapa – Zambia wake-up Party presented a comprehensive set of proposed electoral reforms at the Ndola Civic Centre today. These reforms aim to enhance the electoral process, promote inclusivity, and strengthen democratic practices in Zambia.

Extension of Nomination Period

ZAWAPA advocates for extending the nomination period for presidential, parliamentary, and local government candidates to at least five days. This extension is designed to give candidates and political parties sufficient time to complete all necessary procedures without the pressure of a rushed timeline.

Reduction of Nomination Fees

The party calls for a reduction in nomination fees for all election candidates. This measure is intended to encourage broader participation, especially from smaller parties and independent candidates. By making the process more financially accessible, ZAWAPA aims to promote inclusivity and ensure that candidates from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds can participate in Zambia’s democratic process.

Penalties for Electoral Violence and Malpractices

ZAWAPA proposes stricter penalties for electoral violence, bribery, voter intimidation, and material inducements. Offenders, whether political parties or individual candidates, should face severe consequences, including disqualification from current or subsequent elections, depending on the severity of their offences.

Strengthening the Independence of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ)

To ensure the ECZ’s full independence, ZAWAPA suggests secure funding through a dedicated parliamentary budget line, minimizing executive interference. Financial and operational autonomy for the ECZ is crucial for maintaining impartiality and integrity in the electoral process.

Conflict Management Committees

The party recommends enhancing conflict management mechanisms by incorporating representatives from civil society, religious bodies, and the legal fraternity into conflict management committees. This inclusion aims to provide a more neutral and objective approach to resolving electoral disputes.

Improve Voter Education

ZAWAPA emphasizes the need for intensified voter education programs, particularly in rural and marginalized areas. The party suggests partnering with local media, civil society, and religious organizations to ensure widespread understanding of citizens’ rights and the electoral process.

Reinstatement of Political Party Liaison Committees

Reinstating Political Party Liaison Committees is another key proposal. These committees would facilitate regular, structured dialogue between political parties and the ECZ, ensuring smoother communication and the resolution of electoral issues before they escalate into larger conflicts.

The proposed reforms by ZAWAPA underscore a commitment to a fair, inclusive, and transparent electoral process in Zambia. As the nation approaches the next election cycle, these recommendations aim to foster a more robust democratic environment.

MESSY: THE LOOTING, MISRULE, AND MISERY UNDER HICHILEMA  -Fred M’membe

MESSY: THE LOOTING, MISRULE, AND MISERY UNDER HICHILEMA

Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND are in a deep mess. As nothing seems to be working in this country anymore, especially state institutions and systems of governance.

As we have repeatedly said, a larger part of this mess starts from Mr Hichilema and the UPND government’s extreme corruption and looting of public resources, tribalism, abuse of state institutions, lack of constitutionalism and democracy, breakdown in the rule of law, and shrinking of the democratic space. In fact, according to Freedom House, Zambia’s political and civil rights are rated as partly free. The Afrobarometer research has found that almost six (6) in ten (10) Zambians (59%), say people “always” or “often” have to be careful about what they say about politics.

Clearly, this is a government that is not only undemocratic and repressive but predominantly worships and believes in trafficking with and aiding foreign interests at the expense of its own citizens. Their cause has nothing to do with the suffering masses of this country but has everything to do with boosting foreign interests as well as the profits of Mr Hichilema’s friends and business associates. To them, the present pain and misery they have inflicted on our people is not a priority. It is still business as usual. The people are expected to embrace and become accustomed to this hardship without query.

This explains why they were able to sell the national strategic maize reserves, and condemn the entire population to high mealie-meal prices, and starvation, export electricity and relegate the whole country into virtually total darkness, and hike the electricity tariffs to maximise on profit, whilst the country grapples with darkness, among many other unsound profit-oriented decisions. No doubt, this is a government filled with detached and self-indulgent individuals who only care about themselves and their business interests. This government has lost honour, credibility, and acceptability of the people. No wonder its public ratings are currently at an all-time low.

For this reason, the 2026 general elections will be fought on national grievances. The very grievances Mr Hichilema and his league are contemptuously closing their eyes to, and pretending as though they are non-existent or are a mere fiction of the people’s imagination. But what Mr Hichilema and his corrupt league do not realise is that these grievances, particularly the existing and excruciating economic and social conditions resonate with the struggle, and the people’s desire for change, and these conditions are also painful enough to convince the masses that they have the most inconsiderate and kleptocratic leadership in history, and that time is ripe for real change.

Broadly, the people understand that despite their grievances being genuine, they are being ignored because they mean nothing to Mr Hichilema and his corruption riddled ruling elite. This is what makes the neglected citizens of this country, the biggest opposition Mr Hichilema currently faces. Our people are resolved to mobilise and unshackle themselves against Mr Hichilema’s corrupt and highly polarised and bitter tribal misrule.

It also goes without saying that Mr Hichilema’s unfulfilled promises, manipulation, lies, deceit and politics of abracadabra is what has run him into deeper problems with the people, and significantly contributed to his dwindling political fortunes. It is no longer in doubt that the poor masses of this country have lost trust and respect for Mr Hichilema, as he is now known as a storyteller, a liar.

And no amount of mischaracterisation, abuse, and tormenting of political opponents will alter that. Zambians now know Mr Hichilema for who he truly is, and take every word and promise from him as hocus-pocus – meaningless talk, calculated to trick them or conceal the truth of every situation facing them.

No matter what they do, kale basebana, pakubebela fye pabula! Such is the deep mess Mr Hichilema and the UPND find themselves, but they won’t see it.

Our people have suffered enough, but in due course, they shall triumph. 2026 yena aleya!

Suspended Concourt judges to appear before JCC today

Suspended Concourt judges to appear before JCC today

THREE suspended Constitutional court judges will this morning attend their disciplinary hearing before the Judicial Complaints Commission for misconduct.

According to a notice of hearing advertised in the Zambia Daily Mail on October 11, 2024, the three judges Ann Sitali, Mungeni Mulenga will appear before the JCC at 09:30 hours.

The hearing will be held at the High Court Commercial Division Conference Room (Room 39).

“Further take note that the Complainant and the Respondents, are at liberty to call
witnesses and produce any evidence,” read the notice.

In this matter Lusaka resident Moses Kalonde complained against the three judges at the JJC, over their refusal to hear 2016 presidential election petition.

The trio had rushed to court and instituted judicial review proceedings against the State, arguing that the cases on which the Judicial Complainants Commission (JCC) relied on in asking President Hakainde Hichilema to suspend them, have already been decided upon.

They were seeking an order that the proceedings before the Judicial Complainants Commission (JCC) are illegal, a nullity and void ab inittio on grands of res judicata or estoppel.

They wanted an order of certiorari to quash the recommendation of the JCC for their suspension and to re-open a case relating to the president petition by President Hakainde Hichilema and Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba versus Edgar Lungu, of 2016.

Judge Sitali and others said the issues raised in complaint no. 2024/JCC/076 were heard and determined in a complaint made to the Judicial Complaints Commission in 2016 under cause numbers 2016/JCC/77, 2016/JCC/80, 2016/JCC/81, 82, 84 and 87.

The trio also wanted the decision of the JCC to be quashed for re-opening Kalonde’s case, based on an alleged prima facie case of incompetence or misconduct arising from a complaint by Kalonde on grounds that it raises new issues when in actual fact the said issuers were res judicata.

High Court judge in charge, Charles Zulu, Chilombo Maka and Twambo Musonda granted the three leave to commence judicial review proceedings staying the hearing that was slated for September 28.

However the judicial review proceedings were thrown out, on reasons that the High Court did not have powers to inquire into the President’s decision to suspend the trio.

“We have come to the inescapable conclusion that the applicants’ application for judicial review under Order 53 Rules of the Supreme Court, is constitutionally encumbered, and cannot proceed to the substantive inquiry, for want of jurisdiction,”said the Court.

“And having resolved that we have no jurisdiction, it will be moot and otiose to venture into the other grounds raised by the State for seeking to discharge leave.”

JCC ADVERTISEMENT OF SUSPENDED JUDGES’ HEARING UNLAWFUL

RE: ABROGATION OF THE CONSTITUTION

I refer.to the above and advise that I write pursuant to Article 2(a) (b) of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 20 16 which enacts as follows:

Every person has the right and duty to defend this Constitution and resist or prevent a person from ..illegally abrogating this Constitution.

Article 144 (4) (a) (6) of the Constitution enacts in parts as follows:

The Judicial Complaints Commission shall, within thirty days of the judge being suspended from office… hear the matter against the judge…. The proccedings… shall be held in camera….

A plethora of authorities exist which define the word ‘camera” in judicial proceedings to mean that all documents, and hearings about the case must be in private, behind closed doors and away from the members of the public.

The above constitutional provision therefore means that it is unconstitutional for the Judicial Complaints Commission to publish any document in relation to proceedings for the removal ofa Judge.

Since Article 144 (6) is a constitutional enactment couched in mandatory terms with the use of the word ‘shall’, it has the force of an injunction restraining Judicial Complaints Commission from substituted service by advertisement of any document pertaining to the removal of a Judge.

Article 1 of the Constitution makes it the supreme law of Zambia and binds the Judicial Complaints Commission to the Constitution thereby making the Constitution to be above the Judicial Complaints Commission.

The Judicial Complaints Commission has caused to be advertised by way of print media a Notice of Hearing (attached) for the continuation of the proceedings against the three suspended Constitutional Court Judges namely Judge Anne Sitali, Judge Palan Mulonda and Judge Mungeni Mulenga. The Constitution forbids that.

The advert amounts to an abrogation of the Constitution.

A Petition shall be filed if the Judicial Complaints Commission proceeds to hear and determine the matter pursuant to the advertised Notice of Hearing.

The reliefs to be prayed for in the Petition shall include, inter alia, a writ of certiorari to quash the hearings andi recommendations and

PF SAYS IT HAS TO LEAD ANY OPPOSITION ALLIANCE

PF as largest opposition will have to lead the alliance it will be involved in, the Central Committee has made a resolution.

Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda has since been told to inform Saboi Imboela, Sakwiba Sikota and others in the United Kwacha Alliance – UKA.

Saboi and others were trying to demean the PF and Edgar Lungu that it is not automatic that they have to lead.

Sources within the Central Committee meeting held today say it was anonymously agreed the PF has to lead in any alliance it will join.

But below is the statement issued after the meeting.

EXTRA-ORDINARY CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY, 12TH OCTOBER 2024

RESOLUTIONS

Patriotic Front President, Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu has implored members of the Party to uphold discipline, unity and confidentiality.

Speaking when he chaired the Central Committee called to consider and adopt recommendations of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Political Alliances and Electoral Pacts.

President Lungu bemoaned the continued persecution by the State of Patriotic Front leaders, members and the Opposition in general.
He stated that the Patriotic Front Secretary General, Hon. Raphael Nakacinda had just been released on court bail from incarceration while Deputy Secretary General and Kawambwa MP, Hon.Nixon Chilangwa and Pambashe Member of Parliament, Ronald Chitotela were imprisoned at Mukobeko Maximum Prison while Chairperson for Mobilization, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) was imprisoned at Mwembeshi Correctional Facility.

He expressed hope that Zambians will join forces with the Patriotic Front and other social formations to dislodge the UPND Government, a political party that had brought extensive miseries to Zambia that had witnessed the worst period of suffering in the last 60 years, who are grappling with high cost of living, hunger, lack of economic opportunities, days of loadshedding, high cost of electricity and essential food stuffs.

Meanwhile the Extra-Ordinary Central Committee has adopted the Report on Political Alliances and Electoral Pacts.

The Central Committee recognized that the Patriotic Front was the largest opposition party being led by a former President of the Republic of Zambia, with members of parliament, Mayors and Council Chairpersons, and hundreds of Councilors and it enjoys the general membership in all the 10 provinces, 156 constituencies and 1,624 wards and should therefore be the anchor political party to any political alliances and electoral committees.

Some of the other salient recommendations included proposed clear rules and terms of engagement by the Patriotic Front with other partners including matters regarding shared values, leadership and the sponsorship of the presidential candidate.

The Central Committee tasked the Secretary General to share with key stakeholders including the United Kwacha Alliance and others, the new terms and conditions of engagement and position of the Patriotic Front.

The Central Committee also directed the Secretary General to continue mobilizing the party as Zambians were looking to the Patriotic Front and the Opposition to provide leadership to emancipate them from the suffering and economic collapse the country was facing.

CELEBRATING MRS NDITA KAWANA’S IMPACT IN HER HUSBAND’S LIFE

CELEBRATING MRS NDITA KAWANA’S IMPACT IN HER HUSBAND’S LIFE

Love and gratitude often go hand in hand, and on 12th October 2024 Mr Thabo Kawana found a special way to express both to his wife, Ndita. He accorded his wife “Komu Ya Mulilo”, this is the Lozi version of “Amatebeto” but only this time, it is a husband appreciating a wife.

According to Lozi tradition, this is the greatest tribute a husband and his family can give to a wife as a sign of appreciation. As part of this honor, a female animal (cow), known as “Komu” in Lozi, is offered to the wife and her family by her husband and his family.

In most cases, society has been accustomed to seeing a wife appreciating her husband through such a traditional ceremony but it is beautiful to see that it is now a husband appreciating his wife for her contribution to the marriage and the general well being of the family.  The Kawana and Mtonga families came together to celebrate the important role that Ndita has played in the family.

Mr Kawana has faced many challenges in his life, but nothing compared to the battle with kidney failure. For six long years, dialysis has become part of his routine, and with it comes moments of despair and uncertainty. Yet, through it all, his wife Ndita has been his greatest source of strength and gives him hope in the darkest days. “In my journey to where i am today, i have sometimes gotten extremely ill to a point where i have told myself that this is it, i am dying. But just looking at the face of my wife, there is always assurance that i will live to see another day”, Mr Kawana revealed.

Kneeling before his wife Ndita during the ceremony, Mr Kawana expressed how humbled he was by the love, care, and friendship he has received from his wife over the years. He recounted their shared journey through illness and health, through difficult times and moments of joy, and how she has shown him the goodness of life. Mr Kawana gave thanks to God for giving him an angel and vowed to honor and cherish her for the rest of his life.

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Kawana.

HICHILEMA GRACES SAMULYA MOOMBA CEREMONY

Promises to improve the areana to give a better view of cattle to the people who go to attend the ceremony.

After gracing the event today hosted by Chief Choongo, President Hichilema wrote:

We were deeply honored to attend this year’s Samu Lya Moomba Traditional Ceremony, held at the historic site in Chief Choongo’s Chiefdom. This revered place echoes the indelible memories of our nation’s hard-fought struggle for independence and the immense sacrifices made by our forefathers in 1964.

The historical significance of this site, once a vital resource mobilization area during the freedom fight, was nearly obliterated, but its legacy stands tall today as a testament to our nation’s perseverance.

It was truly inspiring to witness the impressive gathering of 64 Royal Highnesses from across Zambia, uniting in solidarity with their fellow traditional leader. This unity embodies the strength of our cultural heritage and reminds us of the profound truth that traditional ceremonies are a point of convergence, where we recognize our collective identity and shared responsibility as Zambians.

This year’s ceremony holds special significance as it coincides with the Diamond Jubilee of our independence. Our nation’s remarkable journey, spanning 60 years, has been characterized by peace, stability, and three peaceful transitions of power—an achievement that few countries in Africa can claim.

Yet, as we celebrate, we are also mindful of the challenges we face. Our country is enduring one of the most severe droughts in recent history, threatening both our energy and food security. In the spirit of resilience, we call upon our heroic farmers to remain steadfast in their resolve. Plant your crops with determination and hope, for the government stands ready to support you in overcoming these hardships.

Furthermore, we urge all citizens to refrain from bush burning, to safeguard our environment and protect the fragile ecosystems that sustain life and attract rainfall.

We extend our deepest congratulations to His Royal Highness Chief Choongo and the organizing committee for their exceptional efforts in making this ceremony a resounding success. This gathering is a powerful reminder of the enduring resilience, unity, and pride that define us as Zambians. Together, we will continue to build a prosperous and united nation for future generations.

President of the Republic of Zambia.

MINING INSAKA WAS A STRATEGIC APPROACH TO FOSTER MINING DEVELOPMENT, ECONOMIC GROWTH – ANDD

…..acknowledges the efforts by Vedanta’s KCM that contributed $200,000 to sponsor the event

Lusaka… Monday October 14, 2024 (SMART EAGLES)

The Advocates For National Development and Democracy (ANDD) has emphasized that the mining and Investment Insaka that was held last week represented a progressive strategy to advance mining development and economic growth in the country.

The Organization has also acknowledged the efforts by Vedanta Resources through Konkola Copper Mines Plc that supported the initiative by donating US$200, 000 towards the successful hosting of the event.

ANDD Executive Director Samuel Banda says this initiative created a platform for industry leaders, top mining executives, investment strategists, and other stakeholders, including government representatives, to come together in a collaborative environment to share innovative insights and effective strategies for enhancing the mining sector.

“We are pleased to report that we monitored the recently held 2024 Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka, which was a notable success. We commend the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development for organizing this successful event, which brought together key stakeholders in the mining industry to exchange valuable insights,” he said.

“We would also like to recognize Konkola Copper Mine (KCM), under the management of Vedanta Resources, for being the major sponsor of the 2024 Mining Indaba. This sponsorship clearly demonstrates Vedanta’s strong commitment to promoting growth and development in the mining sector, which is crucial for achieving our national target of increasing copper production to 3 million metric tonnes per annum by 2031.”

Mr Banda acknowledged that Vedanta’s KCM contributed $200,000 to sponsor the Mining Indaba.

He believed this significant investment played a vital role in ensuring the success of the event.

“As ANDD, we wholeheartedly support such development initiatives. We believe that platforms like the Mining Indaba facilitate the exchange of sound ideas that can lead to economic solutions addressing current challenges. We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for sustainable development in our country, aiming to promote economic growth and improve the living standards of Zambians,” he added.

“Given the ongoing energy crisis, particularly prolonged load shedding, which has adversely affected our domestic economy, especially small business, we strongly urge the government to organize an economic Indaba. This forum is essential for addressing pressing economic challenges, particularly the energy crisis and the rising cost of living. We believe that collaborative efforts are crucial for finding effective solutions to these issues.”

OVER-EXPLOITATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES, POLLUTION INCREASE NATURAL DISASTERS GLOBALLY – UNDP

Lusaka, Monday (October 14, 2024)

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) says the over-exploitation of natural resources and pollution have led to increased natural disasters.

UNDP Deputy Resident Representative for Zambia Laurent Rudasingwa stressed that a healthy environment is crucial for the full enjoyment of human rights, including the right to a dignified life, health, housing, clean water, and sanitation.

He warned that without a healthy environment, extreme global trends, such as Zambia’s current droughts, could become more frequent and intense.

Mr Rudasingwa said this at the 5th Environmental Protection Dialogue (EPD) organized by Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) in Lusaka.

The UNDP Deputy Representative highlighted the event’s consistent success over the past five years, attributing it to the strong and positive efforts of the participants.

He called for changes to reverse these detrimental developmental gains.

Mr Rudasingwa noted that the triple threats of biodiversity loss, pollution, and climate change disproportionately affect the most vulnerable, marginalized, and excluded communities.

The COVID-19 pandemic, he said, has exposed deep inequalities in wealth distribution, resources, justice, and security.

He emphasized the critical connection between human rights and environmental protection, making the pursuit of environmental justice a priority.

Mr Rudasingwa reiterated UNDP’s commitment to promoting greater access to justice for those affected by environmental issues and strengthening legal frameworks and institutions.

He highlighted the role of law in protecting, conserving, and restoring the environment.

Mr Rudasingwa reaffirmed UNDP’s unwavering support for sustainable environmental management and addressing climate change impacts.

He expressed gratitude for the efforts of all participants and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to achieve environmental justice and sustainable development.

Meanwhile, CEJ Board Member Edah Chimya Gondwe highlighted the growth and influence of the platform since its inception in 2020, emphasizing the relevance of the theme “Strengthening Environmental Law for Thriving Communities” to the current challenges faced by the nation.

Ms. Gondwe noted that the CEJ has always believed in the power of dialogue to drive positive environmental action.

She mentioned that the EPD has evolved into a space for diverse stakeholders to engage, collaborate, and find solutions to environmental challenges.

Ms Gondwe said this year’s dialogue marks a milestone, bringing together a broad coalition of government ministries, civil society, traditional leaders, corporate partners, the private sector, international agencies, and communities, all sharing a vision for a sustainable future.

She gave special recognition to international guest speakers from various organizations, including the United Nations Environmental Programme(UNEP), Reality of Aid Africa, Greenpeace Africa, and Southern Africa Resource Watch among others.

Ms. Gondwe expressed gratitude for their commitment and participation.

Reflecting on the journey from EPD 2020 to the present, Ms. Gondwe spoke about the growth, resilience, and collective action witnessed over the years.

The CEJ Board Member acknowledged the complex and multifaceted environmental challenges confronting Zambia, such as land degradation, pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change impacts.

She stressed the importance of having robust legal and institutional frameworks to address these issues.

Ms. Gondwe emphasized that environmental laws form the backbone of efforts to protect natural resources and promote sustainable development.

However, she pointed out that laws alone are not enough; effective implementation, compliance, and enforcement are crucial.

She highlighted the need for collective action to ensure that environmental laws benefit the people, especially vulnerable and marginalized communities who often bear the brunt of environmental degradation.

ZIM condemns Mnangagwa’s US$3 billion white farmers compensation plan

0

The Zimbabwe Independent Movement (ZIM) has condemned Mnangagwa’s US$3 billion compensation package for white farmers, describing the act as reversal for the liberation struggle gains.

In a statement, the party’s national spokesperson and secretary for information and publicity, General L. Sithole bemoaned that by compensating white farmers, ZANU-PF confirms that it is now an extension of modern day slavery and an enabling machinery for white monopoly.

“The US$3 billion compensation to white Colonial farmers is a proposed move by ZanuPf to nurse the feelings of white capital monopoly. As the Zimbabwe Independent Movement and with utmost urgency, we denounce the government’s blatant abuse of power and betrayal of the Zimbabwean people,” Sithole said.

“It is an affront to the very principles of our liberation struggle that those entrusted to lead our nation are using our country’s resources to amass personal wealth, while the masses continue to suffer,” Sithole added.

“As ZIM and on behalf of the entire suffering population of Zimbabwe, we stand together to condemn the $3 billion compensation plan for white colonial farmers, an outrageous affront to the very notion of justice and equality. It is nothing short of outrageous that our government would prioritise the interests of those who profited from our oppression over the needs of our own people,” Sithole added.

The Zimbabwe Independent Movement reminded citizens that they must not forget that colonial farmers invested in stolen land, built their wealth on the backs of their (citizens) ancestors and exploited resources for their (whites) own gain.

“To compensate them without reparation to the Zimbabwean people is a slap in the face of our struggles, our sacrifices and our very existence,” Sithole said in a statement.

The Zimbabwe Independent Movement claims that it seeks to rescue the country from the grip of neo-colonialism and reclaim the nation’s wealth for the benefit of all Zimbabweans and will therefore not relax whilst government officials and their cronies continue to line their pockets at the expense of our people.

“We therefore call upon and demand immediate suspension of the $3 billion compensation plan and propose for the establishment of a national reparations commission to address the historical injustices inflicted upon Zimbabweans,” Sithole said.

On land reform the ZIM proposes that returning ancestral lands to their rightful owners and ensuring cultural heritage and economic empowerment is ideal.

It also demands creation of a national truth and reconciliation commission to confront the legacy of colonialism and promote healing; and on economic justice, it proposes for the implementation of policies that benefit Zimbabweans, not foreign interests. Council official’s kombi burns

By Simbarashe Sithole

Mvurwi Town Council official’s commuter omnibus went up in flames at Redan Service station, Mvurwi on Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses said the commuter omnibus caught up fire at the service station after a test drive by its mechanics.

“The vehicle was on a test drive when it caught fire and people had to extinguish it with the help of TIMB facilities,” the source said.

2024 US Elections: Trump, Harris locked in a tight race, says WSJ Poll

0

As the countdown to the November 5, 2024 presidential election accelerates, a new Wall Street Journal poll indicates that Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and Republican contender Donald Trump are locked in a fierce contest for the presidency.

The poll highlights the razor-thin margins in several critical battleground states, suggesting a neck-and-neck race that could determine the election’s outcome.

Battleground state dynamics

The Wall Street Journal’s latest findings reveal that both candidates are within two percentage points of each other in six of the seven key swing states deemed essential for a successful electoral strategy. Harris is currently leading in Arizona, Georgia, and Michigan, while Trump holds an advantage in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Nevada.

Notably, the margin in Nevada stands out, with Trump leading Harris by five percentage points—a significant gap in what has otherwise been a closely contested race.

The survey was conducted with a sample of 600 registered voters per state between September 28 and October 8, reflecting the evolving political landscape as the election date approaches.

Voter sentiment and campaign strategies

The proximity of the candidates in these battlegrounds underscores the critical role voter sentiment will play in the upcoming election.

Harris has been actively courting Arab and Muslim voters amid rising tensions regarding the situation in Israel, hoping to solidify support in communities that may feel alienated by current administration policies.

In contrast, Trump has maintained a focus on energizing his base, leveraging discontent among traditional Republican voters.

As both campaigns ramp up their efforts, the candidates are making strategic appearances and tailoring their messages to resonate with key demographic groups.

For instance, Harris recently hosted a town hall in Las Vegas aimed at Latino voters, recognizing the significant influence this population could wield in pivotal states like Nevada.

Implications for the election

The Wall Street Journal’s findings reflect a broader narrative of a deeply polarized electorate, with the outcome likely hinging on voter turnout and engagement in the final weeks of the campaign.

With both candidates pulling out all the stops to sway undecided voters, the stakes have never been higher.

As the candidates prepare for the next presidential debate and intensify their campaign efforts, political analysts are closely watching voter sentiment shifts in these battleground states.

The tight race is not only a reflection of each candidate’s strengths and weaknesses but also highlights the critical issues that resonate with American voters in this election cycle.

Conclusion

With less than a month until Election Day, the Trump-Harris contest is shaping up to be one of the most competitive races in recent history.

As the candidates continue to navigate the complex political landscape and address the concerns of diverse voter groups, the final results remain uncertain.

Both campaigns are aware that every vote will count in what could be a historic election for the United States.

Whoopi Goldberg fires back at Trump for calling ‘The View’ hosts ‘dumb’

0

Whoopi Goldberg isn’t staying quiet after Donald Trump labeled her and her fellow “The View” co-hosts “dumb.”

At a campaign rally in Reading, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, the former president referred to “The View” panelists as “really dumb people.” He also recalled hiring Goldberg for a comedy event at one of his casinos, claiming that her “mouth was so foul” and her set was “filthy, dirty,” and “disgusting.” Trump further alleged that Goldberg once encouraged him to run for president.

Trump’s remarks came after the show’s interview with Kamala Harris on Tuesday, which apparently displeased him.

In response, “The View” hosts made a statement during Thursday’s episode, walking out to Christina Aguilera’s song “Dirrty,” taking a swipe at the Republican leader who has long been a critic of the show.

“So, we walked out to ‘Dirrty’ by Christina Aguilera because it’s one of the words You-Know-Who used when he was talking about me, specifically, but he was talking about all of us at his rally,” Goldberg said, referring to Trump, whom she regularly calls “You-Know-Who” instead of using his name.

Despite Trump’s comments, the 68-year-old TV personality noted that he had hired her multiple times.

“I was filthy, and I stand by that. I’ve always been filthy, and you knew that when you hired me,” Goldberg stated. “I headlined at your casino, and I might’ve kept playing there had you not run it into the ground. How dumb are you? You hired me four times.”

She continued: “You didn’t know what you were getting? How dumb are you?”

Sunny Hostin, “The View” co-host and legal expert, joined in by mockingly thanking Trump.

“Donald Trump, I want to thank you for telling so many lies and committing so many alleged crimes, giving us material daily. You help us do our jobs, and I’m so appreciative,” Hostin joked, before inviting Trump on the show, saying she’d “even give you a mug, not to be confused with a mugshot.”

Hostin’s comments referenced the 34 felony counts Trump faces in New York courts. Alyssa Farah Griffin, the show’s lone conservative co-host and former Trump White House communications director, also took a jab at her former boss.

“He called you a loser, but I’d point out that you’re an EGOT, and he lost the last election and can’t admit it,” Griffin said, adding that Trump is “triggered by women.” Griffin left the Trump White House after January 6, citing his false claims about the 2020 election being stolen.

Kanye West sued by ex-employee alleging he was ordered to investigate Kim Kardashian and Bianca Censori

0

An ex-employee of Kanye West, now known as Ye, has filed a lawsuit against the rapper, claiming he was ordered to investigate Ye’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian and spy on his current spouse, Bianca Censori.

The plaintiff, identified as John Doe, filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Thursday. He is suing West and his company, Yeezy, LLC, for emotional distress, various labor code violations, and retaliation, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.

Doe, a military veteran who reportedly suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alleges in the 22-page complaint that West’s actions severely affected his mental health. “The stress and trauma caused by the threats, hostile work environment, and exposure to illegal and unethical activities severely impacted his mental and emotional well-being,” the lawsuit states. Doe claims he suffered panic attacks, anxiety, and severe emotional distress, which led him to seek medical treatment and admission to a facility to address his declining mental health.

Originally hired as a campaign director and later as a director of intelligence for Ye’s 2024 presidential campaign, Doe alleges he was tasked with investigating Kardashian’s family, Censori’s travels, and individuals who had previously sued West.

The lawsuit claims that West, who was married to Kardashian from 2014 to 2022, requested an investigation into her family, alleging they were involved in “criminal enterprises,” including sex trafficking. Additionally, the ex-employee claims that West ordered him to hire private investigators to follow Censori, without her knowledge, while she visited family in Australia.

Doe also accuses West of failing to pay him for work completed on behalf of both West and Yeezy. The plaintiff alleges he was hired as a travel nanny for two Yeezy associates, identified as Stanfield and Trice in the lawsuit, agreeing to provide “24-hour supervision” for their infant child in exchange for $500 per day. However, Doe claims he was not paid for several pay periods.

“Defendants have knowingly and willfully refused to compensate [Doe] for all wages earned and all hours worked, at the required minimum wage,” the lawsuit states. “As a direct result, [Doe] has suffered and continues to suffer substantial losses related to the use and enjoyment of such compensation.”

Doe also claims he was not provided with accurate wage statements documenting his work for West and his company.

Tensions escalated earlier this year when Doe reported an alleged incident of child abuse at West’s private school, Donda Academy. After informing Yeezy leadership of the abuse claims, Doe alleges he received a threatening phone call from West, during which the rapper threatened to kill him. Additional threats from West’s associates reportedly followed the incident.

“Our client is so fearful of Ye and his erratic, disturbing, and unpredictable behavior that he wishes to remain anonymous for his own safety,” Doe’s attorneys said in a statement. “It’s not only illegal but unconscionable that an employer would threaten any employee with bodily harm or death.”

John Doe is seeking unspecified damages for unpaid wages, lost earnings, and other expenses. He is also requesting a trial by jury, with the case set to be heard on December 19, 2024.

Mother of nine who installed $1,300 salad bar at home to promote healthy eating among her children

0

Alabama’s Melanie Cade, a 37-year-old mother of nine, has invested in a $1,300 salad bar for her kitchen to promote healthier eating and self-sufficiency among her children.

According to a Daily Mail report, Cade, who lives in Alabama with her husband and children, found herself increasingly concerned with her kids’ unhealthy lunch choices and sought a solution. In a video shared online, which has amassed over 500,000 views, Cade explained that the salad bar was part of her effort to encourage better eating habits.

The family includes nine children: Anita, 19; TJ, 17; Nathaniel, 14; twins Mason and Madison, 12; Zachary, 8; Jacob, 5; Noah-James, 4; and Charity, 10 months. Cade restocks the salad bar, which she purchased from a restaurant supply store two years ago, once or twice a week with items like shredded cheese, turkey, boiled eggs, peppers, and a variety of dressings, fruits, and cheese sticks.

“I restock the top once or twice a week, depending on how busy we are and what we need,” Cade explained. “The bottom has two refrigerated sides, where I keep salad plates and bowls chilled and ready for use.” She told Today

Cade said the salad bar also provides an alternative when her children don’t like what is planned for meals. “If one of our children doesn’t care for what we have planned for lunch or dinner, they are welcome to choose from the salad or sandwich bar,” she said.

Before investing in the stand-alone unit, Cade had used a similar setup with a fridge drawer and plastic containers. “This is totally doable,” she said. “You just have to be creative with your space and budget.”

The idea for the salad bar came during the pandemic, when Cade noticed her children had developed an unhealthy reliance on pre-packaged snacks. “I run a tight ship,” she stated. “My kids eat cookies and chips, but during the pandemic, I saw an unhealthy dependency on pre-packaged snacks because they were so convenient.”

Cade said the family spends about $100 a week on items for the salad bar, including seasonal fruits, vegetables, and whole cuts of meat.

“I’ve learned that kids eat with their eyes, so making food look aesthetically pleasing has a big impact,” Cade said. “When they see the vibrant colors, textures, and variety, it excites them.”

Cade, who homeschools her children and shares her family’s daily life online, said she hopes to inspire others through her experiences. “My goal is to help others realize their potential,” she added.

Chris Brown’s Domestic Violence Accuser Speaks Out Ahead Of Explosive Documentary

Chris Brown‘s domestic violence accuser has made her voice heard ahead of an explosive new documentary on the controversial singer.

On Saturday (October 5) Liziane Gutierrez, who accused Chris Brown of attacking her in 2016, came forward for the first time on Instagram, revealing that she spoke about Brown in a new documentary.

In September, Investigation Discovery announced that they would be releasing a film titled Chris Brown: A History of Violence.

The trailer revealed that a new accuser would tell their story for the first time. That person is now known to be Gutierrez.

In her Instagram post, which you can view above, she wrote in Spanish and English: “Lier [sic], clout chaser, ridiculous are just same of the things I have heard over the years since I decided to tell what happened to me. I’m not sure if Im psychologically ready to face the consequences of appearing in this documentary including financial consequences since I signed a non disclosure agreement.

“But I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to let people know what I went thought [sic] and tell my side of the story. Several women agreed to participate and share their stories. We all went through a similar situation.

She continued: “We cant be against domestic violence and simply ignore some cases or even worse blame the victim. This is an investigative documentary in which I provided some evidence from the facts that happened with me back in 2016. I cant say much now but please watch it when it airs on October 27th and then we can talk more about it once it’s released.

“For now I’m just going to leave a question for u all If someone is lying about you, would you pay for their silence?”

In the trailer released last month, a woman says in a voiceover: “Chris Brown’s an amazing and talented musician, but let’s call a thing a thing. He’s an abuser of women. Consistently, unapologetically.”

While people have knowledge of his physical attack on Rihanna in 2009 — as well as alleged sexual assaults over the years — the doc will reportedly spend time focusing on Gutierrez and her story.

Nelly Fans Express Concern For Him After Alleged Drowsiness During Concert

Nelly recently reunited with St. Lunatics for a performance at the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special, but another concert drew discussion for more worrisome reasons. Or at least, that’s what many fans assumed. Basically, fans of the St. Louis artist expressed concern online after clips surfaced from a recent show where folks made note of his drowsy eyes, assuming that he’s either high or has something else going on. However, just as many fans thought that nothing was really out of the ordinary here, so we can chalk this up to fan speculation and reading pretty deeply into a performance.

If you’re curious, check out the comments section of the Instagram post below to see this divisive debate. Elsewhere, though, other Nelly fans focused on this recent St. Lunatics performance, especially given his legal troubles with the group. For those unaware, a lawsuit against him emerged that alleged that he never credited them for their work on the 2000 album Country Grammar. This legal filing came from member Ali Jones, but the rest of the Lunatics (Murphy Lee, Kyjuan, and City Spud) reportedly want their names removed from the lawsuit.

As such, it looks like there’s still a chance for Nelly and St. Lunatics to reach an amicable agreement, and it looks like there’s not much bad blood to speak on in this case. Except for Ali Jones. He spoke to DJ Vlad last year about his issues, which may explain why he wasn’t present at their recent performance. “A tiger ain’t never gon’ change his stripes,” Jones expressed. “I watched it for 20 years and I’m the butt of the joke because it took me 20 years to realize it.

“I could put a never, ever behind it will I ever hit the stage or do anything with him,” Ali Jones continued. “He has no real raw good intentions for others. Not for us and we’ve all sat together and searched hard to try to find a time that didn’t benefit him. He got $50 million, I’m happy for him. That’s what he wants. He wants a billion.” We’ll see what Nelly says about this lawsuit and about folks questioning his concert behavior.

black friends who spend $500,000 annually at Louis Vuitton sue brand after being accused of using ‘drug money’

0

Three Black friends who spend $500,000 annually at Louis Vuitton are suing the luxury brand, alleging racial discrimination after being banned from the store and accused of using “drug money” for their purchases.

Tracy Renne Williams, her daughter Brandi Williams, and their friend Kristopher Enoch filed a lawsuit in California federal court, claiming the brand banned them from shopping at its stores, and even going further to threaten them with arrest, according to a Daily Mail report.

The plaintiffs are accusing Louis Vuitton of targeting them because of their race, and believe no one should be treated in this fashion for “shopping while Black.”

Tracy, who is a “VIP” customer pre-ordered $50,000 worth of items from the Louis Vuitton store in Costa Mesa, California, in September 2022, but was shocked to only receive an email from the brand insisting it would no longer conduct any further transactions with her. This raised questions in her mind, which she then sought to find answers to.

The email from Louis Vuitton read: “Dear Mrs. Tracy Williams: It has come to our attention that Louis Vuitton has been unable to satisfy your needs. Please be advised that Louis Vuitton is no longer prepared to do business with you. Please do not make further attempts to contact the stores.”

Following this appauling email, Tracy visited a Louis Vuitton store in Beverly Hills, where a white manager informed her she was no longer welcome and would be detained if she stayed or returned.

Nonetheless, her assistant who is not black, faced none of these treatments and successfully completed the transaction without hesitation.

The lawsuit also alleges that Brandi Williams was denied service at a Chicago store in July 2023 by a white manager, who falsely accused her of using “drug money” in purchasing her items.

When Brandi sent a non-Black friend to make the same purchase using her gift card, the store then contacted her and deemed the transaction “illegal,” and demanded that the items bought be returned.

Brandi faced similar treatment at a New Orleans store, where she was told she would be arrested if she did not leave the premises. Tracy’s friend, Kristopher Enoch also experienced a similar incident at the Beverly Hills store in September 2022 when he sought to buy a jacket for Tracy.

Although a non-black customer declined the jacket, the store employees told Kristopher it was “not available,” without any further explanation as to why that was the case.

The lawsuit claims all three plaintiffs received identical emails banning them from the luxury brand’s stores, and despite Tracy’s efforts to resolve the issue, she was directed to Louis Vuitton’s legal department and has not received a response.

The suit also references Oprah Winfrey’s 2015 experience of racial discrimination at a Louis Vuitton store in Italy, where she was denied the opportunity to purchase a hand bag.

The plaintiffs are now seeking a jury trial, and are claiming racial discrimination under the Unruh Civil Rights Act, business discrimination, tortious breach of contract, and theft after facing this inhumane situation.

Halle Berry says her children will have to support themselves when they get older

Halle Berry is a proud mother of two and she has been very outspoken about her love for them. During a recent roundtable event for her latest movie Never Let Go, the Oscar-winner said that though she’s “pretty protective” and will “fight for” her 16-year-old daughter, Nahla Ariela, and her son Maceo-Robert, 10, she still wants them to be independent as they mature.

“I can’t wait until they grow up and have their own life, and I can’t wait to see who they’ll become and what they’ll do,” Berry, 58, said, per PEOPLE. “I just want them to be them.”

“There’s no spin on it,” she continued. “Anything they do will make me proud as long as they do it.” The Monster’s Ball actress also said she doesn’t want her kids to “stay home and stay stuck to me.”

“I don’t want them to depend on me. I hope I’m infusing them with enough gumption and giving them enough tools to go out into the world and make their own way,” she explained. “Whatever that is,” she said. “I’m going to be proud.”

Despite her comments about being in favor of her kids‘ independence, Berry said she’s available anytime they need her. She also touched on her 16-year-old daughter dealing with her first heartbreak and how it’s been uneasy to see her endure the ordeal.

“She just was in a thing and she got her heart broken,” Berry said, per PEOPLE. “Never gets easier. It’s just holding space knowing that this is all part of growing, right? We’ve all been there and knowing that in six months time, she’s going to forget about it.”

“But in this moment, it’s the single most important thing to be rejected and have a breakup and she feels like she’s dying. A little part of me is dying and I can’t tell her that because she’ll just say, ‘Mom, you don’t understand.’”

Berry said she is still trying to sympathize with her daughter and let her know how her predicament “sucks.” “So I just have to say, ‘Yeah, this sucks, right? This sucks balls. I know, and you’re hurt.’ And I know I just have to sit in it with her and that’s really hard to do,” she stated.

Lusaka-Pretoria AfDB Tiff; Zambia should withdraw Maimbo’s candidature -Hon. Bowman Lusambo

Lusaka-Pretoria AfDB Tiff; Zambia should withdraw Maimbo’s candidature

LUSAKA, We have followed keenly the diplomatic row that has ensued between Zambia and South Africa over the upcoming elections for the Presidency of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Africa’s premier financial institution.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/uUfquWdTBhVY3Sv7/

By convention, on August 17th 2024, SADC adopted Zambia’s Dr. Samuel Munzele Maimbo as its sole candidate for the May election.

However, on October 1st 2024, the South African cabinet decided to break with tradition and floated its own national Ms. Bajabulile Swazi Tshabalala as a candidate for the AfDB top job.

Ms. Swazi Tshabalala, who joined the bank in 2018 and until now was senior vice-president is seen in diplomatic circles as a safer pair of hands whose candidature delivers continuity after Akinwumi Adesina’s two terms. For most people, in Madam Swazi, the bank has a strong chance of being led by a woman for the first time.

Dr. Maimbo has spent most of his career at the World Bank, where he served as Chief of Staff to its former President David Malpass and quite recently as Vice President, Budget, Performance Review & Strategic Planning. For most of our friends in the region, Dr Maimbo is seen as an outsider, a weak candidate and one who will only serve the interests of the West.

As a Zambian, we believe he deserves support and we are expected to offer him that support but we are compelled to support Madam Swazi because we feel the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations has messed up his candidacy. Through Hon. Haimbe, the Zambian government failed to consult widely beyond SADC to understand and appreciate the complexities of regional and global politics.

What South Africa has done should not been viewed lightly. By backing its own national and breaking with the SADC tradition of a uniform candidate, South Africa is telling the world that Zambia and all that it stands for can and should not be taken seriously. One cannot entirely fault South Africa for holding that view about Zambia today because under the current administration, it is hard to understand our foreign policy. Today, a country that was well represented globally and had clear foreign policy priorities is seen as a flip flopper and a puppet of the West. We also know that South Africa is not alone in this crusade to butcher Dr. Maimbo’s chances, it is common knowledge how Zimbabwe feels about the Zambian government. We also know how uneasy the entire SADC feels about the current administration. SADC holds around 14% of voting rights in the AfDB group and going into this election with a split SADC will only hurt Dr. Maimbo’s chances further.

Now that Lusaka is up against Pretoria, it would be prudent for Hon. Haimbe to save the country and Dr Maimbo from a major embarrassment by impressing upon him to withdraw from the race.

Dr. Maimbo’s chances have been jeopardized by the haphazard management of Zambia’s international relations, today, Lusaka is not trusted beyond its borders. Lusaka has been isolated.

What awaits Dr Maimbo is the same fate that befell Prof. Chaloka Beyani. Prof. Beyani, a Zambian, is a globally respected international law expert who teaches at the London School of Economics who wanted to be elected as a Judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) late last year, If elected, Prof. Beyani would have been the first Zambian judge at the ICJ in The Hague.

Despite his strong credentials, Prof. Beyani miserably lost that election mainly due to perceptions that Lusaka is untrustworthy.

Our plea is that Lusaka immediately withdraws Dr. Maimbo from the race before the 31st January 2025 deadline for submitting of candidates and embarks on a charm offensive across the region to repair its fractured relations with its neighbors. An isolated Lusaka is bad for business and a threat to national peace and security. The Zambian government should immediately appoint a respected statesman to undertake this assignment for the good of the nation. As it stands, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has removed, replaced or frustrated all experienced Diplomats who had a good understanding of Zambia’s foreign and how to relates with its SADC neighbours.

As SADC citizens and as an act of good neighborliness, we pledge to canvass for Madam Tshabalala across the entire African continent to ensure that she ascends to the top of the Abidjan based bank. The time has come for a strong woman in the name of Madam Tshabalala, a woman of high intergrity with a proven track record of helping Africa to develop. We therefore appeal to all well meaning citizens of Africa to endorse our position to support Madam Tshabalala because we believe her time has come to lead the bank.

How the West’s Favorite African Leader is Coming Unstuck

Stephen Lock

When Hakainde Hichilema, a former accountancy CEO, was finally elected president of Zambia in 2021—on his sixth attempt—international observers breathed a collective sigh of relief. Here was a leader with a reputation for business integrity, seemingly well-suited to tackle the enormous challenges of a near-bankrupt country that had defaulted on its foreign debt just a year earlier.

Even Chatham House, a distinguished think tank, applauded Hichilema’s first year in office, writing, “[Hichilema] ushered in a new style which is not only distinct from his predecessor but also sets him apart from other regional leaders.”

This optimism appeared well-founded when Hichilema impressed French President Emmanuel Macron enough to secure his help in leading successful debt negotiations, including bringing China on board to restructure over $6 billion in sovereign debt.

Further bolstering his international standing, Hichilema was awarded an honorary doctorate in Scotland this summer for his “visionary leadership” and was granted a rare audience with King Charles III during the monarch’s cancer treatment—a significant gesture considering the circumstances.

Despite these glowing global endorsements, Zambia’s domestic reality paints a bleak picture. Despite ranking mid-table among African economies, Zambia’s financial situation is dire, with more than $18 billion in debt weighing on an economy with a GDP of only $29 billion.

Inflation is double the central bank’s target, and the Zambian kwacha has depreciated by 42% in 2023 alone.

Severe droughts have worsened agricultural output, leading Hichilema to lament that hunger in Zambia is “Biblical.”

Despite inheriting a maize surplus from his predecessor, Hichilema opted to sell it internationally rather than retain it as a strategic reserve, resulting in widespread food shortages.

Meanwhile, the country continues to struggle with inadequate infrastructure, contributing to frequent water and power outages. A major cholera outbreak this year only added to the country’s woes.

At home, Hichilema’s government appears more popular in the West than within Zambia itself. The optimism that initially surrounded his administration is fading as political maneuvering, and allegations of corruption begin to cloud his leadership. At the midway point of his term, the Zambian government seems to be reverting to old habits, with efforts to stifle opposition and concerns that corruption remains as rampant

Hichilema was recently forced to accept the resignation of the head of the Anti-Corruption Commission, who himself faced accusations of accepting kickbacks. At the same time, Solicitor General Marshal Muchende has been under increasing pressure to step down over questions surrounding the $500,000 he received during negotiations for immunity deals related to the liquidation of the Konkola Copper Mines, a formerly state-owned enterprise.

Freedom House, an international watchdog, rates Zambia’s democracy as “partly free,” giving it a poor score of 54 out of 100.

Worryingly, more individuals were imprisoned for defaming the president in Hichilema’s first year than during the six-year tenure of his predecessor, Edgar Lungu.

Even more alarming, Hichilema recently raised concerns about constitutional “lacunae” that he warned could delay the 2026 presidential elections unless amendments are made, though the nature of these changes remains unclear.

Adding to the growing concerns, Hichilema has targeted almost all opposition leaders for electoral exclusion, using Zambia’s court system as a tool in what critics call “lawfare.”

Among these incidents is the controversial case of opposition MP Jay Jay Banda, who was allegedly abducted, with accusations pointing to the complicity of the police. Leaked recordings have surfaced, indicating government officials pressured Banda to conceal the identities of his kidnappers.

Surprisingly, allegations of police involvement in Zambian abductions are not new.

Mubita Nawa, Zambia’s candidate for Secretary General of INTERPOL, was implicated in a similar case. Nawa, who had garnered the unanimous backing of African Union countries and emerged as a strong contender for the position, faces serious accusations involving the abduction,

In a formal letter sent to INTERPOL, the lawyers allege that Nawa played a key role in a conspiracy that resulted in the unlawful abduction of their clients in September 2022. At the time, Nawa was serving as the deputy director of Zambia’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The letter outlines how the Sadhus were allegedly accosted by assailants disguised as police officers, forced into an unmarked vehicle, and taken to a private residence in Lusaka.

There, they were reportedly threatened and coerced until one of the captives managed to alert authorities via a concealed mobile phone.

Following this, the Sadhus claim they were transported to a police station, where further intimidation continued. The Sadhus insist that Nawa, alongside other figures, played a significant role in these actions.

Despite the court ruling, the payment has yet to be made, with the Sadhus alleging that Nawa and others within the government have pressured them to forgo the awarded sum.

In response to these accusations, Zambia’s police force has issued a statement, firmly denying the claims and dismissing them as a “malicious attempt” to damage Nawa’s reputation before the upcoming INTERPOL election. The statement adds that the Sadhus are under investigation for allegedly manipulating the share structure of Sun Pharma, calling their claims part of a “smear campaign.”

While such revelations may shock outsiders, they are not the only scandals involving Zambian police this year. Another case that attracted international attention involved the seizure of an Egyptian private jet carrying fake gold and cash at Lusaka’s main airport. The BBC reported that several Zambian officers involved in the investigation received up to $200,000 each as bribes from the Egyptian passengers, allowing the plane to depart without making any arrests.

Jack Mwiimbu, Zambia’s Minister for Home Affairs and Internal Security, is at the center of these controversies. Mwiimbu’s influence extends far beyond his official role—he has acted as the head of government in Hichilema’s absence and represented the country at international summits. Yet, his leadership has not been without criticism. His handling of Zambia’s notorious political “cadres”—gangs of young men aligned with political parties and often involved in extortion—has raised questions about whether the police have effectively become the largest cadre of all.

If Hichilema hopes to preserve his reputation in the West and secure a second term at home, he will need to unite the various factions within his government. That includes ensuring that Zambia’s police and security apparatus operate under his direct control and the rule of law.

State turns pricey apartments of jailed PF Commander into boarding houses

WHILE the once-mighty PF commander Francis Muchemwa languishes in jail, the State has turned his dubiously-acquired apartments in the affluent Silverest Gardens of Lusaka into boarding houses.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/AcHDkqjcRzjvGUKa/

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Gilbert Phiri told journalists on Friday that the State had kept Muchemwa’s hostelry business at Altitude Apartments afloat since it took full control of his properties in July this year, following an order of its forfeiture by the Economic and Financial Crimes Court.

Phiri took journalists on a conducted tour of the properties within Silverest Gardens, to document and show beyond doubt that the State was managing the assets in a manner it considered appropriate, as guided by the court.

The apartments whose environment is serene,  have been partly occupied by UNILUS students while some rooms are being reserved for travellers in need of accommodation.

The tidy rooms also have a provision for self catering.

Addressing the media, Phiri said the hotel business has been kept running as a going concern to ensure that the inn does not become uninhabitable.

“This is a proper case of managing a property after it has been forfeited to the State. This property is still a going concern. So when properties are forfeited to the State we are making sure that we take care and they continue as a going concern,” he said.

“This property is a classic case of good management, after it was forfeited to the State it did not go to waste. It’s being maintained, it’s still running as a business, we are making money and you can see it’s well kept, it’s well maintained and this is what we want.”

The DPP said the Hostels Board of Management is currently managing the property and providing lodging facilities in to accommodate clients and promote growth in the hospitality industry.

“The hostel board is still running it. This is a classic model that we want to adopt. We don’t want to seize property, have them forfeited to the State and then they go to ruins, of what use is it?,” he said.

“In this case, the property is forfeited to the State we are continuing to generate money, money goes to the treasury to look after hospitals, after schools, on top of that we are providing a service to the community that are able to use the facilities here. But also we still continue to employ Zambians.”

Acting Anti-Corruption Commission director general, Monica Mwansa who re-echoed Phiri’s sentiments said the money realized from the inn is deposited in the national treasury for overall utilization on pressing needs.

“We are housing students of the University of Lusaka nearby. The university doesn’t have enough accommodation, the Students have come here and they are able to pay money which comes in the assets forfeited accounts and is surrendered to the treasury for use by the general public,” said Mwansa.

“This is one example of how we are giving back to the public at large. The property is not being wasted we brought in the Hotel board management to help us properly manage the apartments. Everything is functional we are able to get updates on what needs to be touched on.”

Muchemwa’s former fancy house which is the vicinity of altitude apartments was also viewed.

Within the yard was an office space, and a servants quarter.

A check at the house revealed that Muchemwa had abandoned his belongings at the house which remain intact two years after his trial, and subsequent conviction and forfeiture of the house.

Muchemwa’s clothes and shoes were still in the closet of his bedroom.

The beds in all the self-contained rooms were neatly spread.

His household furniture was intact and is only covered with dust.

Family pictures were still hanging on the wall in the living room, bedrooms including Muchemwa’s office.

The once feared PF inter-city bus terminus commander did not only abandon his household goods and personal possessions, but two of his dogs too (continental Spaniel) which are now being fed by their new masters, the ACC.

On July 26, 2024, Muchemwa’s action-packed political career punctuated by violence and corruption ended with his loss of freedom, after he was handed a three-year jail term for for possessing a luxurious house, apartments, land, and two Faw trucks worth over K12 million and for illegally receiving allowances from Zesco Limited. by the Economic and Financial Crimes Court

The Court fined Muchemwa K141, 400 to be paid to ZESCO as restitution for the subsistence allowances he accrued.

Muchemwa has however appealed against his jailing and confiscation of his properties in the EFCC ( High Court division) and his case is yet to be cause listed for determination.

ZAMBIANS ARE WISE, THEY WILL VOTE OUT THIS BRUTAL UPND GOVT – EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU

Fellow citizens, good morning

I greet you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ on this Friday, 11th October 2024, with a simple message of caution. My caution to you is that life in Zambia, already under the heavy cloud of hunger, poverty, high unemployment, and citizen misery, is about to get worse in terms of the cost of living and rising prices.

This is due to the government’s decision, as announced by ERB, to allow ZESCO to implement an emergency electricity tariff for both industrial and domestic customers. This decision will negatively affect your home, my home, and our businesses. The golden rule is that when the cost of electricity rises just like diesel and petrol prices of basic commodities and food such as mealie meal, cooking oil, sugar, fertilizer, meat, vegetables, rentals, and transport automatically rise in tandem with the cost of energy. Our citizens carry and pay the harsh price!

While ZESCO’s tariff hike will exponentially push the cost of living higher for the majority of Zambians, most employers, including the government itself, will not increase monthly wages. This policy is cruel, as the government believes it is fair to milk small goats (citizens) all day without giving them any food or water.

The saddest part is that the tariff hike, according to ERB and ZESCO, is meant to raise money to import power and reduce the prolonged load shedding of more than 48 hours in Zambia. But remember, this prolonged load shedding is caused by ZESCO’s decision to export 250 megawatts of electricity to neighboring countries, leaving Zambians in total darkness. Therefore, the rationale behind this tariff hike is unpatriotic, inhumane, and truly shameful!

As you brace for more poverty and suffering, fellow Zambians, I urge you to remain steadfast and keep your eyes on the 2026 polls. Vote for leadership that will increase energy and food security rather than pursue exploitative exports.

Let me conclude by offering a word of hope: “Sometimes, dark skies are just clouds passing over.”

I firmly believe that Zambians are wise and informed and will act prudently by voting out this failed UPND leadership in 2026.

God bless you all

H.E Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu
Sixth President of Zambia

UPND DEMANDS IMMEDIATE ACTION FROM THE POLICE AND ZICTA AGAINST CYBERSPACE ABUSE.

October 12th, 2024

LUSAKA – As the United Party for National Development (UPND), we are gravely concerned with the recent wave of falsehoods and defamatory statements being propagated against President Hakainde  Hichilema and the general citizenry using the cyberspace. This despicable trend has brought into question the effectiveness of the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) and the Zambia Police in upholding the rule of law as well as their capacity to adequately regulate the cyberspace. We cannot and will not tolerate the continued embarrassment of our President as if we are a nation without laws and institutions.

It is highly disappointing that such baseless accusations and insults against the Head of State and indeeed ordinary citizens have been allowed to flourish under the watch of both ZICTA and the Zambia Police. These institutions have a duty to protect the integrity of the Head of State and to ensure that those responsible for spreading malicious lies are brought to book. However, their continued inaction raises serious questions about their commitment to enforcing the law and maintaining order in the country.

We, as UPND, find it unacceptable that these institutions have failed to act swiftly and decisively in curbing the blatant abuse of media platforms used to tarnish the image of the President. This negligence is not only an embarrassment to the Presidency but also to the entire nation. ZICTA, in particular, has the mandate to monitor and regulate the online space. Why, then, have they allowed these vile attacks on the President and citizens to go unchecked?

The Zambia Police, on the other hand, have the constitutional duty to maintain law and order. Their failure to investigate and prosecute individuals spreading defamatory and slanderous content against the President is a clear dereliction of duty. We warn the police that their continued passivity will not be tolerated. This is a matter of national security and respect for human rights and dignity.

ZICTA and the Police must own up to their responsibilities without further delay. If these two institutions do not take immediate and decisive action against those spreading falsehoods about the President, the UPND will have no choice but to act. We will explore every possible legal avenue to hold both ZICTA and the Police accountable for their failure to protect the dignity of our Head of State and party.

We will not stand by and allow President Hichilema to be ridiculed in such a disgraceful manner. The UPND has stood for the rule of law and we expect all institutions to adhere to the same principles. The lack of action from ZICTA and the Police will not be seen as mere incompetence but as complicity in these malicious attacks.

We urge ZICTA and the Police to move beyond lip service and take concrete steps to clamp down on those spreading defamatory lies. These attacks on the President are attacks on the dignity and stability of the entire nation. Failure to act will leave us no choice but to hold both institutions accountable for their failure to uphold their mandates.

The failure by the two institutions to curb this behavior is not only placing Zambia’s territorial integrity at risk but its Foreign Direct Investment portfolio as well as the country will be considered unsafe for investment.

The UPND remains committed to supporting the government and its institutions, but we will not shy away from acting against those who fail to protect the integrity of our President and our nation.

We therefore demand for immediate action from ZICTA board and its management as well as the police command in line with their constitutional mandate or we shall demand for and rightly so for their immediate removal from office for not only failing the Presidency but the nation as a whole.

We demand for action.

“I was too scared to tell anybody” R.Kelly’s daughter claims he s3xually abused her

0

R. Kelly’s daughter, Buku Abi, is speaking out publicly for the first time about the alleged abuse she suffered during her childhood at the hands of her father.

In a two-episode documentary Karma: A Daughter’s Journey, which premiered today, October 11, Abi, 26, claims she was abused by her father as a child, and she first reported it to her mother Andrea in 2009, when she was 10 years old.

“He was my everything. For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened. I didn’t know that even if he was a bad person he would do something to me,” she says in the documentary, the first episode of which is streaming now.

“I was too scared to tell anybody. I was too scared to tell my mom.”

Though Abi, who was born Joann Kelly, does not go into detail about the alleged abuse in the first episode, she says that she believes jail is a “well-suited place” for Kelly, 57, to be, as she knows from her “personal experience.”

“I really feel like that one millisecond completely just changed my whole life and changed who I was as a person and changed the sparkle I had and the light I used to carry,” she says. “After I told my mom, I didn’t go over there anymore; my brother [Robert] and sister [Jaah], we didn’t go over there anymore. And even up until now, I struggle with it a lot.”

In the second episode, Buku goes into more detail about the alleged abuse, which she says happened when she was 8 or 9.

“I just remember waking up to him touching me,” she recalls, crying. “And I didn’t know what to do, so I just kind of laid there, and I pretended to be asleep.”

Buku says she eventually told her mother what happened, and they went to the police and filed a complaint as “Jane Doe,” but, she adds in the documentary, “They couldn’t prosecute him because I waited too long. So at that point in my life, I felt like I said something for nothing.”

In a statement to People, Kelly’s attorney Jennifer Bonjean said, “Mr. Kelly vehemently denies these allegations. His ex-wife made the same allegation years ago, and it was investigated by the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services and was unfounded…. And the ‘filmmakers,’ whoever they are, did not reach out to Mr. Kelly or his team to even allow him to deny these hurtful claims.”

In February 2023, Kelly was sentenced in Chicago to 20 years in prison on charges of child pornography and enticement of minors for sex. The year prior, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for racketeering and sex trafficking charges based out of New York. He’s currently serving 19 years of his two sentences concurrently, and he will be eligible for release in 2045.

Chingola Man Sheds ‘Manly Tears’ After College-Sponsored Love Falls Flat!

Chingola Man Sheds ‘Manly Tears’ After College-Sponsored Love Falls Flat!

Chingola – A courtroom full of spectators was left in stunned silence, followed by bursts of laughter, after a dramatic scene played out between a heartbroken man and his ex-wife.

Muleya Mumba, a hardworking Chingola man, recently found himself in front of a packed courtroom after his college-sponsored investment in love went wrong. What was supposed to be a regular day of divorce proceedings quickly turned into a scene out of a Nollywood drama series.

According to Muleya, he had done “the most Zambian gentlemanly thing” any man could do — sponsoring his then-girlfriend, Maureen, to college. In Muleya’s mind, that degree was his future wedding certificate. However, what he didn’t foresee was that his ex-wife would have her own syllabus for life!

“I took you to college, paid your fees, and even bought you textbooks and rice! How can you now refuse to marry me?” a teary-eyed Muleya stammered before the court, as onlookers tried to contain their laughter.

In a twist that could only happen in Zambia, Maureen stood up with all the confidence of a freshly graduated scholar and hit back with the line that left everyone shook. “You took me to college and paid all expenses, but that doesn’t mean I will marry you,” she declared, sending a wave of gasps and mukaka-spilling laughter across the courtroom.

The judge, clearly caught off-guard by the soap-opera level of drama, took a moment to adjust his glasses and, according to witnesses, tried not to burst into laughter. Sources report that Muleya was left in such disbelief that his tear ducts staged a full protest, as he wept openly — earning him the unofficial nickname of “The Crying Sponsor” across Chingola.

Meanwhile, Maureen went on to explain that education was for her future, not a down payment for marriage. “I got the degree, I didn’t sign a love contract,” she added, flicking her weave with all the confidence of a woman who knows her worth (and her GPA).

Back at the tavern, Muleya’s friends were reportedly divided on the matter. “Ah, mwana, you should have at least made her sign a ‘Sponsor Agreement!’” one friend suggested. Others have started a local GoFundMe to help him recover his pride and buy new handkerchiefs, as his current stock has run out.

In other news, Muleya has allegedly enrolled himself in evening classes, claiming, “Maybe the degree will work for me instead.”
