Zimbabweans Sympathise With Peter Ndlovu As He Struggles To Pay Maintenance For 13 Children

Former Mamelodi Sundowns player and Zimbabwe national football team captain Peter Ndlovu is struggling to pay maintenance for his 13 children.

Ndlovu, who is Mamelodi Sundowns team manager, breathed a sigh of relief after the Johannesburg High Court reduced the amount of child maintenance one of the mothers of his 13 children was demanding.

Ndlovu approached the Johannesburg High Court challenging a decision by a lower court ordering him to pay R30 000 as maintenance for the two children he fathered with the woman whose name cannot be named for legal reasons.

In his appeal, Peter Ndlovu said the amount that the mother was demanding for their two children would affect his other 11 children whom he is paying maintenance for. To his relief, the high court reduced the amount to R12 000 and ordered it to be deducted from Ndlovu’s salary.

Part of his high court appeal read:

I have 13 children, including the two with the first respondent. I am obliged to contribute and see to the maintenance of all of my 13 children. I earn a salary which is utilised for my own living expenses, needs, necessities and liabilities, as well as to contribute to my dependents’ expenses and other obligations. I can simply not afford a deduction of R29 845 per month from my salary.

Upon learning that the former striker is struggling to pay maintenance for his 13 children, Zimbabweans on Twitter sympathised with Peter Ndlovu.
Below are some of the comments:

It’s a fallacy to say that Zambians cannot run the mines – Nakacinda

By Walusungu Lundu in Ndola

RAPHAEL Nakacinda has wondered why the UPND has surrendered the country’s rights to resources and run to people they ceded the rights to for financial assistance.

The PF national chairperson for information and publicity lamented when he featured on Chimwemwe Radio in Ndola on Thursday that Zambia lost about US $5 billion from the mineral royalties mining firms were supposed to pay.

He charged that President Hakainde Hichilema has chosen to borrow from the IMF when the country has the capacity to generate the same amount locally.

“Look at the concessions they are giving their friends… instead of us getting some money through taxes, their friends are being allowed to mine without paying the expected rate for electricity. Just from the mineral royalties these people are supposed to pay, we have lost close to US $5 billion,” he said. “But President Hakainde Hichilema has chosen that instead he would rather go and borrow or beg from IMF US $1.3 or US $1.4 billion other than generating that money on your own. Why would you launder yourself? Surrender all your rights to resources and then you go to the same people that you have surrendered the rights to and start begging?”

And Nakacinda said it is a fallacy to insinuate that Zambians cannot run mines.

“Us the PF under the leadership of Edgar Lungu were determined. We wanted Zambians to take the lead in mining while foreigners follow. At a time we got our independence, we only had a few graduates. This time around when I throw a stone from this studio, out there maybe it will hit a graduate in different fields and discipline. It’s a fallacy to say that Africans and Zambians in particular cannot run the mines. It is because of this same colonial mentality that is causing us to always look to people out there to try and run the mines. Do you know that when Anglo American, those same ones who run the Brenthurst Foundation that supports the UPND, when they ran away in 2004, a Zambian called Jordan Soko ran that mine for two years?” he asked. “He managed to pay the suppliers, he managed to pay the workers. Actually the workforce under Soko was maintained at close to 22,000 workers at KCM for two years without any challenge with the suppliers, any challenges with the workers and all those who were providing services to KCM.”

Nakacinda frowned at the tendence of always looking to foreigners to take charge of the mines.

“Instead of realising that we are capable of running the mines so that we can benefit from just one mine…KCM, can give you the money you are looking for from IMF, but we are always looking up to the whites. We brought that [Indian], when Vedanta came to that mine he didn’t have problems to pay the suppliers. He started actually subcontracting, laundering the works that are supposed to be done because these are traders,” he said. “The next thing was that the workforce for KCM was reduced to just above 4,000 because most of the people were either pruned, retrenched or indeed surrendered to those companies that were subcontracted to provide a service to KCM. And obviously the mine was paying better than those subcontracted companies. Moving forward, the company had reached a point where it was becoming insolvent. Some of the financial institutions which were owed by Vedanta were beginning to move in to liquidate KCM.”

Nakacinda said the mining sector would be doing better if Zambians took charge.

He said the appointment of the liquidator in the matter of KCM was to protect the “stripping” of the mine.

“That is how government made an intervention. Former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s wisdom to say let us quickly move in, this is our national asset. And they appointed the liquidator. It was for purposes of protecting the stripping of that company… if there is a bold decision made, we just find an equity partner and government is involved, Zambians are running the mine and even have a voting right on the board, that mine would not be where it is today,” said Nakacinda.

LIVINGSTONE MAYOR FUMES…I don’t want to work with Rodney Sikumba – Livingstone mayor Nalishebo Mukelabai

LIVINGSTONE MAYOR FUMES…I don’t want to work with Rodney Sikumba – Muleabai

By Edwin Mbulo in Livingstone

I DON’T want to work with Rodney Sikumba, he is one those inciting people to rise against me, says Livingstone mayor Constance Muleabai as internal fighting in the ruling party increase.

But Sikumba, the Minister of Tourism and also Livingstone UPND member of parliament, says this was not true and urged this journalist not to have the story published.

In an interview, Muleabai accused Sikumba, her deputy Reverend John Banda, youth leaders Phil Musela and Emmanuel Syamasaka, district secretary Renny Shindelele as well as Sikumba’s sister Yvonne and some councillors for inciting public anger against her especially among marketeers.

“Some marketeers protested (to Zambezi FM radio on Tuesday) demanding for my resignation. But I want to tell you that I won’t because I have a five-year-mandate. I have put my foot down that I won’t allow anarchy in the city.

I am even surprised why the police cannot arrest Phil for inciting street vendors. I even called the MP (Sikumba) to tell him that I don’t want to work with him. His absence in the constituency should not affect my work,” Muleabai said.

She alleged that some UPND leaders were financing traders to hurl insults at her and also calling for her resignation.

Muleabai said some councillors even went to an extent of writing to the Local Government Service Commission calling for the removal of town clerk Timothy Mambalakata for unknown reasons adding that she had to intervene to clear him.

She said traders at the Livingstone City Market should not trade in the market parking lot as this would attract those inside to abandon their stands and trade on the street.

“Phil even deployed some cleaners at the bus terminal without council knowledge saying they would be paid K1,500 each every month until we stopped them. Why is he untouchable?

The deputy mayor (Rev Banda) and Mr Shindele are inticing people to insult me. I don’t mind people positioning themselves to be mayor but I have a five-year mandate,” Muleabai complained.

She said she would not engage in illegality to plaese people.

But Sikumba said the mayor’s assertions against him were not true.

“That is not true. No that is not correct and please don’t write such stories Mr Mbulo,” said Sikumba. “Sir, you don’t write such stories. They are very divisive.”

Shindele when contacted said he did not know what she was talking about, but was quick to add that “her problem is that she likes to work in isolation. Each time I have a problem with her I do approach her. I don’t know what is happening.”

Rev Banda, who is Akapelwa ward councillor under which the main central business district falls, said the mayor being superior should have engaged him if she had information or suspicions of him being against her.

“There is nothing of that sought,” said Rev Banda.

And Musela said Muleabai has failed and risks causing more problems for the council.

He accused her of using the council to fight everyone in the UPND.

“The mayor has failed and if her behaviour continues we will have a big problem in Livingstone. The problem is not me, the party or the MP, it his her. Sikumba does not want to talk of trivial issues. She should not shift her failure to us,” said Musela.

Sikumba’s sister Yvonne said the mayor is her own enemy.

“I won’t say much as this may open a Pandora’s box. There is no government that can operate without the party, but for her she has no regard for party officials. She does not respect us and she does not understand how the party and its government should operate. She wants to turn her office into a family thing! That is a public office and not for the Muleabai family,” said Yvonne. “I can only best describe her as a person who has managed to kill the unity we had in UPND. She does not listen to any one. She knows it all.”

Syamasaka, who is the constituency youth chairperson, said he is the one who provided transport and campaigned for Muleabai all the way until she was adopted.

“When she got her adoption she stopped talking to me. I can’t fight her because she was supposed to be married to my cousin,” said Syamasaka.

NEW DAWN RELEASES MORE THAN K460 MILLION TOWARDS ARREARS FOR SUPPLIERS INCLUDING FUEL – MUSOKOTWANE

February 6th, 2023

LUSAKA – Finance and National Planning Minister Dr SITUMBEKO MUSOKOTWANE says in 2023, the Government will continue to build on the gains made in public resource management and economic governance as a way of ensuring that the people of Zambia benefit from the fruits of economic transformation. The Minister says one of Government’s focus areas in 2023 is to enhance commitment to implementation of programmes and ensure that the budget performance is not impaired.

“We all need to be diligent and steadfast in executing our tasks – delays in programme implementation have an impact on our transformation agenda. We have to deal with that this year so that we attain substantial developmental progress by attaining our budget targets” he said.

Dr MUSOKOTWANE has called on ministries and public agencies with programmes that are scheduled to commence after the rain season to ensure that administrative preparations are made ahead of time so that project implementation is on schedule, immediately the rain ceases.

We now take this opportunity to brief the nation that in January, 2023, the Treasury released K12.4 billion to finance public service delivery. Of this amount, K3.6 billion went to the public service wage bill whilst K3.5 billion was spent on debt service (domestic and external), and other liabilities. Releases to transfers, subsidies and social benefits amounted to K2.4 billion, out of which notable expenditure items included:

1)
K635.6 million for the Public Service Pension Fund (PSPF) financing gap and grant. This is aimed at sustaining the payment of pension dues to retired public service workers;

2)
K427.7 million for grants to schools to support the free education policy;

3)
K342.1 million for the operations of Public Hospitals and other Grant Aided Institutions (GAIs);

4)
K217.9 million for the secondary schools & skills development bursaries component under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds who have qualified to go to boarding secondary schools and for skills development for youths who wish to obtain long-term life skills;

5)
K209.9 for the Social Cash Transfer Programme;

6)
K115.1 million for operations of public universities;

7)
K111.6 million for the Local Government Equalization Fund to support operations of local councils; and

😎
K100 million for the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund (LASF) to help pay dues to retired local authority workers.

Furthermore, the Treasury released K2.4 billion for implementation of various Government programmes and general operations. Of this amount, notable expenditure items included:

1)
K4 million for the land titling project. This is a key intervention in ensuring that citizens are empowered through officially titled land;

2)
K436.7 million for the procurement of drugs, medical supplies and equipment; and,

3)
K1.8 billion for general operations of Government Ministries, Provinces and Agencies (MPAs).

The Treasury also released a sum of K524.8 million towards capital projects of which, K303.6 million was spent on road infrastructure, while the balance of K221.2 million went towards water, education and health infrastructure projects.

In line with the Government’s commitment to reduce indebtedness, a sum of K3 billion was released towards the payment of both domestic debt and external debt (multilaterals). Furthermore, the Treasury released K464 million towards dismantling of arrears to suppliers of goods, services and fuel. The Government also spent K3.6 billion on costs relating to the wage bill for various public service workers.

As stated by the Minister of Finance and National Planning on several occasions, Ministries, Provinces and Public Agencies should ensure that funds released by the treasury are utilised on budgeted programmes – in a timely, efficient and effective manner.

“We have a duty to the people of Zambia to achieve the economic transformational objectives outlined in the budget and the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP). To do this, the timely and efficient implementation of budgeted programmes is cardinal,” states Dr MUSOKOTWANE.

I DON’T REGRET EXPRESSING MY LOVE HERE-CHELLAH TUKUTA

He writes:

I know my h@ters are loving this and enjoying the news that Chellah Tukuta denied. Have fan and enjoy while it lasts for the next few days.

Firstly I want to say I can’t regret saying what I mean’t from deep down my heart despite using Facebook as a platform. We all express ourselves differently and we are all love stricken differently. I would be a coward to say I shouldn’t have said it here or what.

A lot of you expected me to react negatively and all but I will say this I RESPECT CHICHI’S RESPONSE VIA THE CHANNEL I USED WHICH IS FACEBOOK AND SHE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO DO SO. I WILL NOT DISRESPECT THE WOMAN I LOVE REGARDLESS OF THE PUBLIC DENIAL. IF INDEED I LOVE HER I MUST RESPECT HER. It is okay you can laugh at me and all BUT TO MY FANS I ASK THAT YOU RESPECT HER

She may be my type of woman but I may not be her type of man. A man reaches out to a woman and he can either be accepted or denied. I therefore respect her choice. But I will put it on record that I LOVE CHICHI REGARDLESS AND WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW HER AND BE INSPIRED BY HER

Chichi has inspired me because of how she handled social media when her issues were all over because I too have been on that path. A lot of women have failed to pick up their pieces and soldier on. Chichi has inspired a lot of people out there.

She is very hardworking from Monday to Friday on Radio and other gigs and over the weekend she’s on TV wow who wouldn’t want such a hardworking woman?

YES I MAY HAVE USED A WRONG PLATFORM TO EXPRESS MYSELF BUT MY INTENTIONS WERE PURE AND GENUINE.

NOW TO ALL OF YOU MY TRUE FANS THIS CHAPTER IS CLOSED. LET’S CONTINUE WITH VAULENCE AND JOKES AND LAUGH THE WAY WE DO. THE CHICHI TOPIC IS OVER AND I ASK THAT YOU RESPECT HER.

HH will not change SADC stance on Zimbabwe polls- Ibbo Mandaza

Renowned publisher and political analyst Ibbo Mandaza says the recent assumption of the SADC Troika chairmanship by Zambian leader and Zimbabwe opposition ally Hakainde Hichilema will not result in any major shift in how the regional body has played its hand on Zimbabwe’s disputed elections.

Zimbabwe heads for high stakes elections later this year with hopes of any poll based reforms long demanded by the opposition fading by the day.

The Zanu PF led administration, according to opponents, has instead been cherry-picking and rehabilitating laws that favour the ruling party’s ambitions to retain power.

In the wake of disputed polls marred by violence, Zimbabweans have often looked up to SADC to use its own statutes to police its delinquent member country.

Article 4 of the 1992 Windhoek Treaty states that “human rights, democracy, and the rule of law” are principles that guide the actions of its members.

Similarly, Article 5 commits member states to “consolidate, defend, and maintain democracy, peace, security, and stability” in the region.

Last weekend, regional leaders convened in Windhoek, Namibia, for the SADC extraordinary Troika Summit, which addresses regional security crises.

The crises in Mozambique and the Kingdom of Eswatini were on the agenda, but Zimbabwe’s electoral agenda was not.

Mr. Hichilema, who spent many years in opposition politics, stepped in for the first time since becoming Zambian leader, to assume chairmanship of the revolving post of SADC’s Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation.

This fueled renewed optimism among some Zimbabweans that SADC could change its softly approach towards Zimbabwe and revisit the implementation of electoral reforms recommended by local and international bodies in the post-2018 election period.

In an interview, Mandaza said the coming in of the Zambian leader will not result in any shift from SADC’s lukewarm policy towards the cycle Zimbabwe’s contested elections.

He said SADC is “historically and politically constrained from playing the kind of role especially that of an interventionist kind in the affairs of a fellow member state that is expected of it”.

“It is essentially an interstate organization, and therefore statist in orientation, almost impervious to and unable to deal with crises,” he said.

“Therefore, it’s unlikely that Hakainde Hichilema will dare act beyond the usual that has been expected of a member of SADC ever since its inception in April 1980. It would be good if he surprised us though.”

It will be hard to win the fight against tribalism if it is fought hypocritically-Venus Msyani

0

By Venus N Msyani

The fight against tribalism should not be fought hypocritically. Zambian youth have come up with a song ‘Bupuba bwesu mwalitwebele nina pamwato twanina pang’ombe’ (is our stupidity you told us to ride a boat we rode a cow).

Because cow (ng’ombe) is mentioned, to some people automatically the song becomes tribal. They are refusing to accept the song. Only Zambians understand. You mention a monkey, someone from Mwinelubemba (the northern part of the country) feels teased.

You mention a rat, a person from the eastern part of the country feels teased. A cow, someone from the southern part of the country feels teased. Beans, uwakwilanzi (a Nakonde person) may feel teased, and so on.

Every tribe in Zambia is a victim of teasing. It is common and accepted in Zambian culture. What is wrong is to start promoting to make one tribe feel more victim than another. By refusing to accept the above song we are making Tonga different from other tribes in Zambia.

Back in 2017, Fumba Chama sang ‘Koswe Mumpoto’ (the rat in the pot.) When the Patriotic Front government started to harass him because of the song, Zambians including then the opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema defended Pilato.

By the way, ‘Koswe Mumpoto’ is one of President Hakainde Hichilema’s favorite songs: “”Koswe mu mpoto,” one of my favourite songs from this courageous, patriotic and talented gentleman. I’m proud of you @iampilato.” President Hakainde Hichilema tweeted on October 1,2019.

If you are not a Zambian, ask a Zambian near you. ‘Koswe Mumpoto’ is not different from ‘Bupuba bwesu mwalitwebele nina pamwato twanina pang’ombe.’

A few days ago, Dr. Chishimba Kambwili was live on his Facebook page complaining about a threat he received from President Hakainde Hichilema concerning tribalism. On January 26, 2023, He had allowed the youth to sing the above song at his residence.

Kambwili didn’t hesitate to share the threat: “My dear colleague Mr. Kambwili I am sure you are aware that it is a crime to promote tribalism in Zambia.” Hichilema threatens him.

It is a confirmation of hypocrisy. Pilato’s ‘Koswe Mumpoto’ is not tribal, ‘Bupuba bwesu mwalitwebele nina pamwato twanina pang’ombe’ is a tribal song! That is exactly what President Hakainde Hichilema seems to tell Kambwili. We should tell him no.

Hichilema has accepted Pilato’s ‘Koswe Mumpoto.’ He should also accept ‘Bupuba bwesu mwalitwebele nina pamwato twanina pang’ombe.’ The youth and anyone who likes the song should sing it without intimidation.

All tribes in Zambia are equal. It will be hard to win the fight against tribalism if it is fought hypocritically.

SDA Pastor points at evidence showing that Jesus is about to come

SEVENTH Day Adventist (SDA) Church Pastor, Harrington Simui Akombwa says such things as some people walking almost half-naked on the streets is evidence that Jesus is about to come.

Dr Akombwa is the SDA Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division (SID) president.

Speaking at today’s worship, dubbed Big Sabbath, at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, where SDA global president Pastor Ted Wilson was in attendance, Dr Akombwa reminded congregants that Jesus will return soon.

He said according to the Words of Apostle Paul, the Lord will cut His work short in righteousness.

“Soon Jesus will come! And we are here to hasten that return. When you see people on the streets of Lusaka walking almost half-naked, that is a sign that Jesus is about to come,” Dr Akombwa said.

“That is why we are meeting in this place to get ourselves ready to play our part, because God is almost impatient. Sin is everywhere and He wants to end it now but you and I have a part [to play]. It is for that reason that I’m very happy to welcome to the Republic of Zambia the leader of the Seventh Day Adventist Church Dr Ted Wilson and his wife Nancy.”

Dr Akombwa expressed joy that from the 10 baptised members that were there when the SDA Church started at Rusangu, Monze, in 1905, “in 2015 we met in this arena to celebrate our crossing of the one million baptised member mark.”

“Today we meet here, 118 years later, nearing 1.4 million baptised members in the Republic of Zambia. To God be the honour and glory!” said Dr Akombwa.

“Today we meet here to celebrate what God has been able to do to us in the 118 years. Today we meet here, as we worship the Lord, meeting with the leader of the Seventh Day Adventist Church worldwide, representing 22 million baptised members. Indeed, God is in this place.”

Until May 2021 when he was appointed to the SID, Dr Akombwa was the Southern Zambia Union Conference president.

CHANGES REGARDING THE PF EXTRAORDINARY CONVENTION IN GOOD FAITH- Nakacinda

CHANGES REGARDING THE PF EXTRAORDINARY CONVENTION IN GOOD FAITH

….says Nakacinda as he dispels falsehoods surrounding the highly anticipated conference

Luanshya, Sunday, February 5, 2023 ( Smart Eagles)

Patriotic Front (PF) Chairperson for Information and Publicity Hon. Raphael Mangani Nakacinda has dispelled falsehoods surrounding the highly anticipated PF convention.

Hon Nakacinda explained that the extraordinary general conference has attracted both negative interests and positive ones.

The PF Member of the Central Committee warned that there are people who wish for the party’s destruction after the convention.

He said this when he addressed the media in Luanshya today.

“Everybody must know that the general conference has attracted both positive interests and negative interests. We have our enemies and detractors who are wishing and pronouncing that the convention will lead to the destruction of the party,” he said.

“And therefore, they will find all means to exert pressure on Patriotic Front to hold that conference based on their ill intent that possibly it will lead to destruction of the party. There are also others within the party who out of ignorance peddling falsehood among ourselves suggesting that possibly there could be others with ill motives or hidden agendas surrounding the issue of the general conference.”

Hon Nakacinda said the only way PF will succeed is when its members rise above personal interest and look at the interests of the party as well as the nation.

He said this should be the guiding principle on how PF is going to prevail towards the conference and how the conference itself will be held.

“So these social media articles, sentiments that are circulating suggesting that the money that was raised for the general conference has disappeared at the secretariat, that is erroneous, it is malicious,” he said.

“The process of raising funds for the conference continues. Of course, because of the economic hardships on the Zambians and members of PF are subjected to under the New Dawn, the accumulation of the funds needed was at a slow pace. But we are determined to make sure that every required process, mechanisms that are needed to be put in place before the conference are all put in place.”

He assured members that a successful conference will be held that will be transparent, legitimate and one that leaves no stone unturned to make sure that the leadership that the party will make will succeed.

He said whether or not PF is going to hold the conference in March is a question that will be answered by the processes that the party will be undertaking.

“Mainly, the review of the constitution and then the other required process. There are also laws that dictate how we should move and the pace at which we should move. So with that clarification, the official position of the party is not all those malicious statements,” he said.

“We are determined to have a credible conference to be held as projected. If at all there are any adjustments, it will be in good faith.”

It’ll Be Foolish For Tayali To Vote For Kambwili Simply Because He’s Bemba- Hon Mupishi Jone

IT’LL BE FOOLISH FOR TAYALI TO VOTE FOR KAMBWILI SIMPLY BECAUSE HE’S BEMBA.

Authored By Hon Mupishi Jones

Just like it’ll also be foolish for Hangala to vote for Hamududu because he’s Tonga.Imagine a Zambia were a Sakala is compelled to vote for a Tembo because they are all “aku umawa”

Unfortunately we have individuals who still hold the view that their tribesmen will vote for them even when it’s beyond question that they are “useful idiots”.Yes they might get votes based on tribe but definitely not enough to win them an election. We still have individuals who vote based on tribe, these are individuals today who are even defending criminals from facing justice simply because they are tribemates. They’re saying ” yes we know he’s a thief, but he’s our thief!”.

We know them and Zambia knows them too. Those spineless political criminals who survive on tribe and not on brains.Once the law visits them, they scream tribe expecting their tribesmen to jump to their rescue as if when they were stealing, they were stealing on behalf of their tribe. We know them and how I wish one of them could be given a long deterrent jail sentence to send a strong signal that Zambians no longer cherish tribalism. It is very embarrassing to live with such characters in the same society. These are society misfits that should be separated and placed in their rightful place for possible reform….jail!

It’s sad that these characters still entertain the view that all of 2.8m who voted for President Hakainde made a mistake, that they voted him because of tribe. They don’t believe that President Hakainde was voted into office based on his capacity devoid of any tribe considerations.
As a matter of fact, President Hakainde’s one year in office has proved that Zambians made the right decision compared to his competitors.Just ask a question to any apolitical citizen to close his eyes and imagine how Zambia should have been today had PF won those August 2021 general elections! Just that thought makes many Zambians shudder with fear.

These are the same characters who were driving our economy into negatives and today they want to convince Zambians that they can do better, what has changed? Are they not the same characters who were governing this country while attempting to force everyone to be singing PF songs.

These are the same faces that were in leadership yesterday whose last cabinet excluded the entire Southern Province…third most populated…. from having representation and today they want to convince us that they can unite Zambia, really? These are the same characters who still believe in tribalism even when it is clear that Zambians hate that, I really fail to understand how PF thinks it can bounce back, just how?????
I submit

He was the son of Maxem Chishala and Serah Mutele Kalumba Mwisa. He did his primary education at Mambilima mission school for the blind and later on went to the Western Province at Sefula Secondary School to pursue his Secondary education.

In his early years, P.K Chishala suffered from smallpox which later left him blind. He later worked as a social worker at MEF (Mindolo Ecumunical foundation) before his rise in the Zambian music industry.

He was a natural story teller and social commentator recording his debut single “Icososa Cipamano” at Malachite studios in Chingola while he was at school. Controversy was sparked when he released “Ba Pastor” in which he took a swipe at immoral clergy men – many wanted the song banned calling it blasphemous but despite all the hullabaloo the song went on to win song of the year in 1985.

He released Church Elder under Kariba Label by Teal Record Company and the title-track once again exposed the misdeeds of one “church elder” by the name of Pole Pole! The title-track won PK the 1987 Soloist of the Year Award and made him the country’s flag bearer at the 1988 World of Music and Dance (WOMAD) Festival, an annual event held in the UK.

He released “Na Musonda”, on which he introduced his wife “Harriet” on backing vocals. The album also had the humorous song Kubwaiche about his childhood. In 1993, he Released his fourth album Umwaume walutuku.

In his song common man P.K talked about the high cost of living and this was seen as being defiant or disrespectful to the Father of the nation Kenneth Kaunda. On 7th September 2019 he was honoured and a tombstone was unveiled in Chingola. He died on June 15th 1995.

Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera to be betrayed – Nigerian Prophet warns

0

Nigerian Prophet Primate Elijah Ayodele has warned that Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera will be betrayed by people he trusts.

The Leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has released prophetic warnings for 15 African countries, including Malawi.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele revealed what will happen in these countries and to their presidents.

On Malawi he said: “The president must pray for his health, political survival because those he trusted will betray him unexpectedly.”

He added that the country, which experienced devastating floods that killed people and damaged infrastructure last year, will also suffer from floods and natural disasters.

Primate Ayodele also revealed that there will be a political problem for the president of Tanzania because the opposition will come together to fight the president’s policies.

For Uganda, Primate Ayodele said the president must pray for good health and not to be bereaved.

“He must pray not to have political troubles and be betrayed. He should pray for the security of the country because there will be an attempt on him. He must re-arrange his military and I see protests against him,” he said.

According to Ayodele, in South Africa, the president will face political tension and his party will have division among them. He added that the opposition will give him a very tough time because there will be more economic hardship in the country.

For Chad, The man of God warned the president to be careful of international interference because it will ruin the nation.

In Somalia, Primate Ayodele warned the president to be careful of assassination.

Primate Ayodele also revealed that the president of South Sudan’s health will fail him and he will be betrayed by his political allies. He also noted that there will be a smooth ride to democracy in the country.

For Sudan, Primate Ayodele noted that the interference of the international community will bring instability in the country. He mentioned that the military government will be transformed to democratic by the international community but it will be kicked against by the citizens.

Other countries mentioned in the prophecy include Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Sao Tome and Principe, Tunisia, and Libya.

Zimbabwe Man Demands R2.7 Million From Sidechick After Paying Maintenance For Another Man’s Child For 11 Years

Zimbabwe Man Demands R2.7 Million From Sidechick After Paying Maintenance For Another Man’s Child For 11 Years

A Zimbabwe man has sued his former side chick at the High Court, demanding that she pay back the US$163 000 (approximately R2.7 million) he paid in maintenance over an 11-year period. The man was shocked when he learned that he had been supporting another man’s child for 11 years through maintenance payments.

Dr Roger Kruger Hendrick Chigangacha, a prominent pathologist based in Bulawayo, filed the lawsuit after calculating all the money he had paid in child support over the past 11 years.

Dr Chigangacha is suing his former sidechick, Natasha Popova Sibanda, for falsely claiming maintenance from him after lying that he was the father of her child.

Sibanda, a former actress, previously starred in the TV drama Amakorokoza as AK’s wife.

According to Dr Chigangacha, he had an extramarital relationship with Sibanda From 2011 to June 2012. During this time, the two indulged in intercourse, and the baby was born to Sibanda on May 20, 2012.

According to lifestyle tabloid B-Metro, in his summons filed at the High Court, Dr Chigangacha said,

“On December 19 2022, and through DNA profiling carried out on me and the minor child, the profile results conclusively excluded me as being the biological father of the child. It was reasonably foreseeable or ought to have been foreseen by the defendant that her promiscuous behaviour at the time of conception would have resulted in me being falsely imputed fatherhood of the child.”

The Zimbabwe man argued that his former lover, Sibanda, deceitfully passed off her daughter as his.

“By reason of the defendant’s conduct, I acted on her misrepresentation and paid for all the educational requirements of the child up to December 31, 2022.

I have also expended some money in respect of travels and costs towards the general welfare and upkeep of the minor child.”

The good doctor is requesting that the High Court order Sibanda to pay him US$100,000 (R1.7 million) for her false and dishonest attribution of the child’s paternity to him.

Additionally, he requests that the court order the former actress to pay back the child’s upkeep bills, incidental expenditures, and extra damages in the amount of $63,000 (R1 million).

Will Edgar Lungu Pull a Quick One?

0

By Prince Bill M. Kaping’a Political/Social Analyst

When you hear someone like Charity Banda, the deposed Lusaka province Chairlady, say there’re machinations to dribble certain PF presidential aspirants out of the race and impose former president Edgar Lungu as a torch bearer in the 2026 elections; take time to analyze the developments in the former ruling party before you dismiss her assumptions. It’s increasingly becoming clear by the day that there are actually outrageous Machiavellian maneuvers to facilitate the possible return of ba Lungu to the throne.

If at all there’s one individual with ultra-presidential ambitions in PF, it is no other than the PF acting party president himself, bo Given Lubinda, AKA Zayelo! This is something that he has never attempted to shy away from like many other cowards in our political dispensation. If you may recall, he was actually one of the contenders in quest to replace Michael Sata at the Mulungushi Rock of Authority. At the end of the day, Edgar Lungu claimed the crown by a mere show of hands with bo Lubinda going on to serve as Justice Minister, even though he had never been to any law school himself, and he would put his charm and charisma to greater use defending the notorious Bill 10! Doesn’t it therefore bother you that of all the people, bo Lubinda’s name is missing from the list of candidates positioning themselves for an eventual showdown with HH in 2026?

The author has endeavoured to critically analyze the unfolding events in the former ruling party and safely arrived at this theory. Brian Mundubile, the PF Legal Affairs Chairman, who also doubles as leader of the opposition in parliament, appears to be the favourite to take over the mantle as party president. And he seemingly enjoys tacit approval from both the acting party president bo Lubinda and of course, the former president Edgar Lungu. However, Mundubile is a stranger in PF. His roots are firmly anchored in MMD just like the other two candidates Dr. Chitalu Chilufya and Emmanuel Mwamba.

Given this background, Mundubile cannot easily marshal the support of the grassroots, hardcore adherents that easily connect with the likes of Miles Sampa, Chishimba Kambwili or GBM whom they view as the true owners of the party. This may even be the reason why the party is dillydallying to go for the convention as the top brass probably understands that his of defeating the trio are as impossible as it is for the Camel to pass through the eye of a needle.

In one way or another, Mundubile will be imposed as party president with Given Lubinda relegating to his substantive position as vice president. And we get closer to 2026, there will be a clarion call from within the party for Edgar Chagwa Lungu to step out of retirement and challenge Hichilema. As a matter of fact, some impatient party members have already started chanting they want Lungu back! And being a cunning and sly politician that he is, he will of course insist that he should be left out of politics as he’s enjoying his retirement. And when the time is ripe, he will then pull a quick one!

But where does this leave bo Lubinda whom we earlier said would be eager to move into Plot 1 Independence Avenue should chances allow? You must be a dimwit to believe that bo Lubinda can just wake up one day and forego his presidential ambitions just like that! Ba Lungu has probably assured bo Lubinda that he will just come back to finish off his final term and then pass on the button to bo Lubinda with Mundubile assuming the role as vice president. Who would reject such an offer from a man who has all the resources to his name?

Don’t argue with us, we’ve seen such things happening in Russia……

Zambia’s Ballooning Domestic Debt Sparks Concern: Dr. Fred M’membe Calls for Real Checks and Balances to Avoid Economic Crash”

Zambia’s Socialist Party President, Dr. Fred M’membe, has raised serious concerns over the ballooning domestic debt in the country. He says that the government has been borrowing money by selling government treasury securities to finance its operations while operating under a deficit, with little attention being paid to this growing problem.

“There is a serious maturity risk here because the government is managing the risk it by forcing local institutional investors to roll over their government treasury bills and bond holdings in order to avoid a balloon payout, which they may be unable to meet, causing a default on the domestic market,” warns M’membe.

He questions the government’s plans on the relentless issuance of government securities and asks, “What are the government plans on the relentless issuance of government securities to finance its operations, and when are we going to slow down on raising money by the issuance of government securities? This is what we are currently using to fund our budget deficit, but for how long and is this going to be sustainable?”

M’membe also highlights the need to know the debt ceiling on treasury bills and government bonds, asking, “Where are we at now?” He calls for journalists to ask the Bank of Zambia at the MPC briefing on February 14 where the country’s reserves currently sit and to know the details of any borrowing from China and other multilateral institutions.

“Let’s offer real checks and balances to avoid the country from crashing,” adds M’membe.

The Bank of Zambia’s recent decision to increase the statutory reserve ratio held by commercial banks has further added to the financial woes of Zambians. The Bank has instructed commercial banks to reduce money circulation by increasing the statutory reserve ratio to 11.5% from the current 9%.

M’membe states, “The decision by the Bank of Zambia to increase the bank reserve ratio means more money problems for Zambians. The move has effectively squeezed money out of circulation, forcing commercial banks to only deal or lend money to pristine clients like mines or big business.”

He further adds, “The ordinary already poor Zambian shall suffer even more as money is squeezed out of the market and suppliers are not paid, it’s going to be tough for many poor Zambians. What Zambians need is more money and not less money – more, and not less, money in circulation.”

M’membe believes that there is pressure on the Bank of Zambia to keep the exchange rate low, as promised by Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, but warns that “This will mean more money because increasing the (reserve requirement) ratios reduces the volume of deposits that can be supported by a given level of reserves and, in the absence of other actions, reduces the money stock and raises the cost of credit.”

He explains that while reserve requirements are one of the monetary policy tools used by the Bank of Zambia, “an over-employment of changes in reserve requirements to enact monetary policy can be very detrimental. Open market operations are a much more precise tool.”

M’membe concludes, “The impact of changes in reserve requirements is difficult to estimate. Each change has the potential to affect depository institutions in different ways, depending on each institution’s deposit base. Changes in reserve requirements may also lead to changes in pricing schedules for some bank services, because some bank fees and credits are set based on reserve requirements.”

Burkina Faso’s slain leader Thomas Sankara to be buried at assassination site

0

The body of Burkina Faso’s revered revolutionary leader Thomas Sankara is to be buried alongside 12 comrades at the spot where in 1987 they were assassinated, the country’s ruling junta said on Friday.

The ceremony will take place “in February” at the site of a memorial that already marks the location, the government’s spokesman, Communications Minister Jean-Emmanuel Ouedraogo, said in a statement, without giving a date.

Sankara came to power in August 1983 as an army captain aged just 33.

Nicknamed Africa’s Che Guevara, he was a fiery Marxist-Leninist who blasted the West for neo-colonialism and hypocrisy.

He changed the country’s name from the colonial-era Upper Volta to Burkina Faso — “the land of honest men” — and pushed through a range of reforms, including promoting vaccination and banning female genital mutilation.

Sankara was idolised by supporters of pan-Africanism and egalitarianism, but his tenure was short-lived.

He and a dozen other leaders were gunned down by a hit squad at a meeting of the ruling National Revolutionary Council in the capital Ouagadougou on October 15, 1987.

The killings took place on the same day that Sankara’s comrade-in-arms, Blaise Compaore, seized power.

He went on to rule for 27 years, during which Sankara’s death was a strict taboo. He was ousted by public protests and fled to Ivory Coast.

After Compaore’s downfall, the 13 bodies were exhumed from a cemetery on the outskirts of the city for an investigation.

It led to a lengthy trial that culminated in April 2022 in life terms in absentia for Compaore and the suspected hit squad leader, and a similar term for a detained general who had been army commander at the time.

In the light of this trial, the 13 should be buried “honourably,” Friday’s statement said.

Burkina Faso, a landlocked state in the heart of West Africa’s Sahel, is battling a seven-year-old jihadist insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives and driven more than two million people from their homes.

Anger within the military at failures to stem the bloodshed helped spark two coups last year.

IRATE SENGA HILL RESIDENTS BEAT UP LOCAL BUSINESSMAN AND LOOT HIS BUSINESS PREMISES FOR ATTACKING TRUCK DRIVER

IRATE SENGA HILL RESIDENTS BEAT UP LOCAL BUSINESSMAN AND LOOT HIS BUSINESS PREMISES FOR ATTACKING TRUCK DRIVER

February 4, 2023

Senga residents yesterday ran amok and damaged two grocery shops belonging to a local businessman only identified as Kabwaiche.

The irate residents also looted goods worth thousands of kwachas.

An eye witness who spoke on condition of anonymity said in an interview that people were incensed by the action of the business man who beat up the truck driver and his passenger who had packed at a lay-by near his shops to have lunch.

The source alleged that the businessman deflated the front tyres, and broke the car radio of the truck belonging to a named company before confiscating a document bag.

She said the behaviour exhibited by the businessman and his wife to beat up the duo and damage the truck angered the residents who resorted to looting all the goods from the two shops.

And Patrick Phiri, the truck driver, explained that he met his fate on his way from Mpulungu when he made a stopover at Senga market to have lunch in one of the restaurants.

Mr Phiri disclosed that whilst eating, he was confronted by the businessman and his wife, who ordered him to move the truck, saying it was obstructing their clients.

He said the couple dragged him from the restaurant and started beating him.

Mr Phiri narrated that he managed to flee the scene and reported the matter to the market committee, who advised him to report to the police.

And Senga Hill District Commissioner, Jestus Sikazwe condemned the act and has since appealed to people not to take the law in their hands.

Mr Sikazwe warned that the law would not take kindly to anyone found wanting.

He advised people to follow the right channel when aggrieved instead of taking the law into their hands.
The District Commissioner later held a meeting with traders, village headman, church representatives and community members at Senga market.

Efforts to get a comment from the police and the business owner filed by press time.

Calm has since returned in the area.

Over 100 Chief palaces to be constructed this year – President HH

President Hakainde Hichilema says government is targeting to build over 100 Chief’s palaces for the year 2023 as well as complete the palaces that are still under construction.

President Hichilema says the government is committed to institutionalize the Chieftaincy and restore decency for traditional leaders through construction of suitable offices and residential areas for chiefs.

“This year we have targeted to construct over 100 palaces and complete the ones that have been under construction since the year 2014. We want to institutionalize the palace with proper water articulation, some form of lighting using solar energy or other forms, build offices and meeting rooms. This time we are doing things differently” he said

Speaking when Senior Chief Kambombo of Chama District paid a courtesy call on him this afternoon, the President said government is in the year 2023 focusing on addressing community concerns including infrastructure development and other emerging issues that need attention.

He emphasized that government will ensure that all road constructions are done at the right price, right quality and within the set framework and added that government will give construction to the local contractors.

The Head of State added that the increased Constituency Development Fund(CDF) is meant to improve the livelihoods of the people and has directed that the chief be represented on the committee to ensure that their views are heard

“The chief should have representation in the CDF committee so that the Chief’s views are well represented, the church will be represented too. We want the communities to prioritize their projects” he added

And Senior Chief Kambombo has thanked President Hichilema for moving Chama District back to the Eastern Province from Muchinga Province, stating that developmental projects that were disrupted as a result have since restarted

“We are grateful for the bold step you made of taking the district back to Eastern Province from Muchinga. We are even begining to see more development partners in the District,” he said

The Royal Highness who was speaking through his spokesperson Nixon Chilekwa appealed to the President to help the District with the rehabilitation of roads and bridges which he said are in a deplorable state.

He further requested for the president to facilitate purchase of an artificial limb and transportation to aid his movements since he had a surgical operation that left him with one led

“The Chief is having mobility issues as you can see his leg was amputated. We are asking that you can assist with an artificial limb to aid with the movements” he added

President Hakainde Hichilema has been engaging with traditional leaders with the last one being Chief Mpezeni last month.

Serena Williams Says Will Smith Deserves Forgiveness After Oscars Slap

0

Will Smith faced the wrath of cancel culture firsthand during the Oscars last year. The viral moment where he slapped Chris Rock across the face has been immortalized on the Internet. Many people continue to denounce Smith because of his actions. Others went as far as saying that he left them traumatized.

Though the incident left Will Smith banned from attending the award show for the next 10 years, he also won the first Oscar of his career. Smith took home the award for Best Actor for his role as Serena and Venus Williams’ father in King Richard. The win was not only significant for Smith but for the entire Williams family.

Serena Williams recently sat down with Gayle King for CBS Morning where she opened up about the moment. She explained that she thought the film was “incredible,” while also showing love to Summer Of Soul, which won Best Documentary immediately after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. However, her attitude towards Smith didn’t mirror the majority.

Williams explained that she feels more people need to offer compassion. She said that she’s also been in a position where she faced immense pressure and made mistakes in the process. Ultimately, she said Will Smith deserves forgiveness in the aftermath of the incident.

“I also feel that I’ve been in a position where I’ve been under a lot of pressure and made a tremendous amount of mistakes,” Williams said. “I’m the kind of person that’s like, I’ve been there, I’ve made a mistake, it’s not the end of the world. We’re all imperfect and we’re all human, and let’s just be kind to each other. And I think that’s often forgotten a lot.”

Since the Oscars, Will Smith’s publicly apologized on numerous occasions for his actions. He shared a statement days after the incident. Then, he provided a more in-depth apology in a video released in July, while adding that he tried to reach out to Chris Rock to personally apologize.

“There is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave in that moment,” Smith said. “There’s no part of me that thinks that’s the optimal way to handle a feeling of disrespect or insults.”

EXHANGE RATE REQUIRES GOVT TO RETAIN MONEY LOCALLY

EXHANGE RATE REQUIRES GOVT TO RETAIN MONEY LOCALLY

By Nobert Mumba

So we are down to the vicious circle I predicted would happen – constraining money supply to artificially hold the kwacha and inflation. BoZ has announced a 2.5 percentage point increase in reserve ratios to arrest depreciation. Bring back SI 33 as amended by SI 55.

The day we will realise that we have at every corner professional street vendors in the name of brick making factories simply moulding our quarry into blocks and exporting millions of dollars out of the country is the day we will realise our financial markets are bleeding.

The day we realise that of the $5-6bn earned by the mines very little returns to Zambia is the day we will realise Zambia will not come out of its economic woes. The story is the same in tourist sector. Lodges are collecting $500/night in Lower Zambezi, Livingstone and South Luangwa and most of it not banked in the country.

Big companies such as hardwares, tile suppliers are asking clients for cash to give so-called discounts which are in essence ZRA tax avoidance. With monthly fuel pricing, oil marketing companies and filling stations can make millions overnight by simply pretending they do not have fuel a day before price hikes. Used car dealing has also been invaded by foreign entities. Buy a Mark X at $2500 and sell it at $8000.

There is also need to monitor investment claims that are designed to bloat expenditure to reduce profitability. If Zambia really received billions of investment inflows a year as claimed we wouldn’t be where we are as a small economy.

Zambia is not short of foreign exchange it is bleeding foreign exchange and the financial system, tax system and law enforcement system are all on go slow. Let us implement effective monitoring of exchange outflows and the kwacha will stabilise. It is monitoring and not exchange control.

Even big countries like America and China are at loggerheads to control means of production in order arrest imbalance. I agree with the concerns of BoZ though increasing ratios is not the solution.

Pope Francis’ visit to DRC, South Sudan ignites hope for Africa

0

Pope Francis’ visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan is an important chapter in the life of the Church in Africa. The visit is also viewed as a significant step in mending relationships between warring parties in the two countries. Development processes in Africa are often delayed or frustrated by conflicts and lack of peace and stability in the continent and Pope Francis was not hesitant to point these out when he encouraged the youth and people of the Democratic Republic of Congo “not to point fingers at each other or perpetrate social exclusion.”

The Pontiff highlighted that the people in DRC have a rich and beautiful country, yet so hurt by “exploitation, corruption, violence and injustice.” He urged the leaders of the catholic Church there to help fight the injustices that has plagued the country for so long. While the Pope’s address was targeted at the DRC situation, his pastoral statement reflects loopholes bedevilling Africa as a continent.

Issues of exploitation, corruption, violence and injustices are the root causes of the suffering of the majority. The same perpetuates poverty, violence and public destitution not only in DRC but in many African countries. Hence, the Papal visit to Africa seeks to open up opportunities for African people as well as to end disparities that exist in the continent. It strengthens Christian faith and instils hope for all in a continent that is riddled with poverty and public strife.

Bishop Raphael Ncube of Hwange Diocese acknowledged that Pope Francis visit to DRC and South Sudan ushers great hope to people in the African continent.

“The Papal Visit to these two African countries bedevilled by conflict, poverty and disease is a great sign of hope for all God’s people in the whole of Africa. Our problems as African people may vary in degrees and yet essentially the same. This Papal Visit, therefore, will have a healing touch on the whole of Africa, Zimbabwe included,” said Bishop Ncube.

According to Bishop Ncube, the visit by Pope Francis ignites hope for the African people considering that the pandemic had covered the continent with a blanket of gloom.

“Having just come out of the Pandemic which to an imaginable extent frustrated the Catholic faith in Africa, the Papal Visit becomes a genuine assurance that God has seen us through and he has walked with us even during the darkest days of the pandemic. So it is a great re-assurance to the Catholic faith on the continent,” stated Bishop Ncube.

Bishop Ncube stressed that this visit also puts a signature to our synodal journey in Africa, coming as a great and rare opportunity for Africa to walk side by side with the Holy Father.

The bishop said the Pope’s visit should serve to assure Africa that she has come of age to be able to stand on her feet and allow her democracies to mature so as to avoid unnecessary conflicts.

He said: “Africa has to celebrate herself as a continent of people who love each other to the point of shunning such demons like xhenophobia, political violence, civil wars and systemic corruption. Africa has to be encouraged to build a Church which is self-propagating, self-reliant and self-ministering. The Church in Zimbabwe has to benefit from the lessons of true synodality expressing itself in opening wide our doors to Christ and reaching out to the less privileged and the marginalized.”

Fr. Matthew Madziva buttressed Bishop Ncube’s words saying that the Holy Father’s visit to any country is pastoral in nature as it serves as a reminder of the role of the Church in its dimensions as a communion, witness, liturgy and spirituality as it awakens the meaning of life in individuals who may be losing hope due to despair and discouragement.

“The visit by the Pope comes to revitalize drooping spirits. South Sudan and DRC have known war for some time and the visit of the Pope brings a break to noise and fighting, it silences the gun at least for the time the Pope is with them and this may be the beginning of the new era. The silence of the gun should not, however, be an event that passes with the return of the Pope to Vatican but should be a way of life,” Fr. Madziva said.

The cleric challenged Zimbabweans cherish peace which they have enjoyed for many years after independence and hand it over to its posterity as a heritage never to be lost.

Fr. Madziva said: “What Pope Benedict XVI dealt with in Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Africae Munus 2011, especially, as his theme, that is, reconciliation, justice and peace, still appeal to the people of these great nations. The message of Pope Francis in Fratelli Tuti, that we are all brothers and sisters should ring loudly in all people’s ears.”

The priest challenged the people of Zimbabwe to rally behind Pope Francis’ message of promoting peace at every level of society.

“The Church in Zimbabwe can learn to spend and expend in the interest of peace. The little the Church can do for peace will have a positive impact today and on generations to come. Instead of conflicts and violence, Africa should develop and nurture a culture of peace,” Fr. Madziva said.

The Pope is coming to the continent at a time when other forces are coming to plunder Africa’s God given resources but his mission is to affirm the identity of Africa and Africans as children of God. South Sudan and DRC have been labelled as war zones but the Successor of Peter is coming to Africa which is a home to his flock, the lungs of the Church.

UPND, PF leaders are all the same: we don’t need them- Azwell Banda

UPND, PF leaders are all the same: we don’t need them

By Azwell Banda,

Incredibly, in less than 18 months of Hakainde Hichilema (HH) and his United Party for National Development (UPND) government, the abominable Patriotic Front (PF) can smell government power, again.

Meanwhile, the egocentric, selfish and sadistic UPND are pathetically pleading that we, the majority of Zambians, must not make the mistake of returning the PF into government even if they, the UPND government, starve us to death or kill us because of lack of jobs and medicines in hospitals. Instead of focusing on what both of them have unleashed on Zambians – sorting out the high cost of living, hunger and needless Zambian deaths stalking the country – the PF and UPND leaders have erupted into a potentially deadly tribal civil war!

It is now very clear that the UPND and PF leaders, and especially HH, are all pathologically addicted, and dependent, on government, because without it, they and their businesses cannot survive. They all need government to steal, corruptly enrich themselves, and to access both government and foreign money for their personal businesses. This explains why the UPND was in opposition for 23 years, and the PF, for a decade. President Kenneth Kaunda fought this kind of selfish, greed unpatriotic politician, including by promulgating a “Leadership Code” for UNIP leaders in government. He failed. In 1991, their kind removed him from government and pure hell on earth was loosened, upon the majority of Zambians.

There can be no better proof that our post-independence economy and its entire political system and society are thoroughly rotten, expired and have become dangerous barriers to our national unity, development, prosperity, peace and happiness than the fact that at a time when millions of Zambians are starving, frustrating electricity blackouts are wiping out the little economic activity millions of Zambians survive on, clinics and hospitals have become waiting rooms to the nearest grave, fuel, transport, food and rent are out of reach for millions of Zambians; our leading politicians in the two main electoral parties have erupted instead into a vicious and deadly tribal war, over government.

Nearly 60 years after our so called “independence”, nothing best confirms the fact that our economy and society have rotted, collapsed, totally disintegrated beyond reforming than the fact that neither our economy nor our entire Zambian society can guarantee food, just enough nutritious food, for every hungry Zambian. To confirm this sad fact, we have in government today, in HH and the UPND, a government thoroughly selfish and impotent to act, to prevent millions of Zambians from dying from the simplest food to produce: maize.

Just like the PF who proposed we resort to eating sweet potato for breakfast, the UPND now advise we consume roller maize meal because it is cheaper than breakfast maize meal. Anyone still suffering from the pathetic illusions that HH and the UPND are in government to reduce the cost of living needs an urgent serious mental check-up.

Arrogantly, the lying UPND leaders are completely disregarding their deadly false neoliberal economic logic: should the majority of Zambians who today survive on breakfast maize meal start buying roller meal, roller meal, which is already too expensive for most Zambians, will be priced beyond reach even for the few better off Zambians, as the massive surge in new demand would push up prices of roller maize meal!

The PF, too eager to hypocritically exploit the obvious deadly disaster that the UPND have proved to be, are on political steroids working overtime to erase from our memory their violent, thieving, corrupt, undemocratic, authoritarian and state institutions collapsing behaviour when they were in government. They are now actually defending and praising their record when in government! Thankfully, cartoonish Miles Sampa, now brutally and ruthlessly swiftly suspended from the PF central committee for six weeks, has savagely “undone” the massive PF efforts at attempting the impossible: delete from our memory what the PF did to Zambia when they were in government – terrorise and rob us.

Any brain dead Zambian who had begun to develop the fantastic illusion that the PF had changed, rebranded, 17 months after their massive humiliating loss of power (truth be told, we now must understand that the UPND did not win the August 2021 elections, it so happens that the PF actually lost power because Zambians withdrew their mandate to govern from the PF – in the event, even a wingless grasshopper would have been preferable to the continuation of the savagery of the PF in government!) need only imagine the horrors they would unleash on Zambians should we ever make the impossible blunder of returning them to government.

Zambians humiliated the PF, on August the 12th, 2021, by nearly unanimously withdrawing their political mandate to govern, from an arrogant, authoritarian, thieving, lying, corrupt and violent PF. In the face of overwhelming national hunger, malnutrition, poverty, a collapsed economy and destroyed state institutions, having defaulted on government debt, the PF actually believed they would win the August 2021 elections, because they thought, the majority of Zambian voters were properly terrorised, incapable of thinking straight and recognising what the PF had turned out to be.

By savagery throwing Miles Sampa out of their central committee for six weeks at a time when all PF presidential hopefuls (hopeless fools) should be canvassing for votes among potential PF elective conference delegates, the PF has just rudely reminded all of us Zambians who they still truly are: a thoroughly undemocratic, intolerant, brutal and completely untransformed political party! PF presidential hope fool Miles Sampa’s right to hold a political opinion contrary to any existing internal formal positions of the PF at this time as the PF advances towards its elective conference needed to be protected by the PF central committee, to promote and defend free speech and internal democracy in the PF, and to confirm that the PF has changed for the better, no matter how unpalatable this would be, to anyone. The PF central committee have failed crucial democratic test.

Meanwhile, the UPND have proved beyond any reasonable shred of doubt that between serving and saving the lives of Zambians and money, they will serve and save money and profits, consistently, all the time! Only a cruel, insensitive and sadistic political party and government would celebrate serving and saving some government money when doing this cost Zambian lives in our clinics and hospitals, and from hunger.

It takes a cold, heartless and ruthless political party and government, in a country in which the largest social and economic occupation is impoverished, untransformed, unmechanised rural agriculture, at a time of global food insecurity and national hunger and malnutrition, to deliberately delay, frustrate and limit government support in the provision of seeds and fertilisers to millions of impoverished rural farmers. To celebrate the “savings” from this kind of government cruelty is pure sadism, insanity. The UPND government has legendary cruelty and contempt, against the majority of the people of Zambia.

Nothing best confirms the heartlessness, complete disdain and contempt for our impoverished rural farmers than that agriculture minister Mtolo Phiri and Hakainde Hichilema think that all Zambia needs for their reckless mishandling of the 2022/23 farming season is a contemptuously proffered fake “sorry” while they celebrate the government money they have “saved” from this debacle. Zambian lives will be lost because of hunger from this sadistic behaviour of the UPND government.

Meanwhile, we all know the UPND has given foreign mines the best ever tax regime, and other policies. They have even handed over all government shares to some foreign copper miner, in exchange for, believe it or not, Zambian government tax returns to FQM. Meanwhile, they are not going to stop maize exports, as Zambians face rising prices of maize meal and shortages of the commodity. They are pretending they are impotent to install supply and price controls on a national staple food. “Survival of the financially fittest” is their concealed cruel slogan!

At a time of great potential for Zambia to prosper, the UPND, through the IMF, are busy extremely cheaply pawning off Zambia’s natural wealth to the US, UK, EU and their merciless allied global capitalist oligarchies. Meanwhile, Zambians are left to die of starvation, because the UPND will not stop exports and effect price controls on vital foodstuffs, to satisfy the IMF. The UPND are thus politically effectively laundering the abominable PF.

Today, from August the 24th 2021, in HH and the UPND, we have that section of our parasitic politicians who saw and exploited the massive opportunities for themselves to become fabulously rich from privatising government as they threw millions of Zambians into mass hunger, malnutrition, extreme poverty, unemployment and grotesque inequalities, as they concealed their private greed and selfishness by preaching and practicing a decadent version of fundamentalist “free market liberal economics”.

Nothing best illustrates the total contempt and disrespect the UPND and PF leaders have for the majority of struggling Zambians than the illusion they both have that Zambia has no choice but to choose between these two thoroughly selfish, greedy, rotten, corrupt, thieving, lying, hypocritical same kind of government and foreign money parasitic post-independence Zambian politicians. They are both wrong, absolutely wrong. Zambia does not deserve both the UPND and the PF. For Zambia to survive and thrive, we must ditch both of them. In the articles to follow this one, I will explore our genuine emancipatory alternatives.

PRIORITIZING OF FOREIGN BUSINESSMEN BY THE UPND GOVERNMENT SADDENING

…..it would have been gratifying to see the likes of Mbachi Power Tools, James Ndambo, Mulenga Mikalile, Fisho Mwale, Bokani Soko meeting the Head of State says LUSAMBO

Mufulira, Saturday, February 4, 2023 ( Smart Eagles )

Former Copperbelt and Lusaka Provinces Minister Hon. Bowman Chilosha Lusambo has slammed the list of businessmen invited for yesterday’s Private Sector leaders engagement with President Hakainde Hichilema.

The List which was widely circulated requested for 17 businessmen with only three of them being indigenous Zambians.

But Hon Lusambo said majority of the people invited are detached from reality and do not know the suffering of the Zambians.

He said it would have been gratifying to see the likes of Mbachi from Power tools, James Ndambo, Mulenga Mikalile, Fisho Mwale and Bokani Soko on the list.

He said the mentioned people are successful businessmen who know the sufferings of the people.

“I expected to see the likes of Mbachi Power tools because the guy has been very successful in the transport Sector. We wanted to see Ndambo and other successful prominent Zambian businessmen. We wanted to see on that list Bokani Soko and Mulenga mikalile. Those are the people who are 100% aware of the suffering of the people of Zambia.

“The Problem we have in the country is that the Republican President Mr Hakainde Hichilema prioritizes foreigners at the expense the of indigenous Zambians,” he said.

And Hon Lusambo has charged that the country is under state Capture.

He said Zambia does not need IMF because of their harsh conditions.

“The IMF deal under PF did not fail, we gave them conditions, but they kept on telling us to increase fuel, remove FISP…They wanted us to sell ZESCO and to increase the tariffs. The Nkongole Zambia has is accumulative it was not just the PF… the money we have for China is 6 billion dollars only. The money that is bringing confusion is the one for EUROBOND,” he said.

Hon Lusambo was speaking when he featured on Mafken Radio in Mufulira today.

The Bulldozer is on the Copperbelt for a series of engagements with party structures.

Meanwhile, Hon Lusambo said the country is facing a very difficult period.

“Apa tufikile, Ifintu nafikosa. Chibudula Chamulemena umwana… this is the stage the current regime has reached. We are not happy when things are not going well no wonder I said we will advise the President.”

Catholic Priests in Lusaka ask lay faithful to help remove Bishop Alick Banda

“YOU SHALL BE MY WITNESSES” – NOT PREDATORS OF YOUR SHEEP: LUSAKA CATHOLIC PRIESTS’ REJECT BISHOP ALICK BANDA

Dear Catholic lay faithful of the Lusaka Archdiocese. We write to you as priests of the archdiocese as we are not happy about the leadership of Bishop Alick Banda. The man lacks wisdom, moral strength and discipline to be a leader of such an important diocese. As such, we humbly request that you may join us in calling upon the Vatican and Pope Francis to intervene and save the diocese.

In his admonition to Catholic Bishops during his visit to Madagascar on September 7, 2019, Pope Francis asked the Bishops, “can a pastor with the heart of Jesus be indifferent to lives entrusted to his care?” The Pope, like St. Paul in the Acts of Apostles in the opening quote of this statement, challenged the bishops to, like Christ, manifest an inseparable bond between their faith and the poor. This scriptural and papal admonition re-echoes the foundations of the vocation to Christianity and priesthood in the Catholic Church. In this spirit, we return to the matters affecting the administration of the Archdiocese of Lusaka under his Bishop Alick Banda.

In addition to the misdeeds of the Bishop we mentioned in our earlier statement we released in September, 2022, we would like to list the following:

1.The bishop is in a threesome relationship with a nun, Sr Agness. It’s a love triangle involving the bishop, the nun, and Fr Laston Lupupa SJ. The relationship is in the open and embarrassing and scandalising the lay faithful. The nun often sleeps at the bishop’s house. Unlike other bishops who live with other priests in order to be of good example to the priests, Bishop Banda has been living alone in luxury in order to hide his misdeeds. But for the good of the Church, in which we serve, and for the good of our faithful people we serve, we shall not divulge more on this. Our main concern, however, is the toxicity this relationship has caused in the church. For example, based on her proximity to the Archbishop, the nun in question has become a feared leviathan among her religious peers, and dismissively ill-treats parents and workers at the school she runs. She has practically abandoned her religious vacation and commitment to Christ to a lifestyle of extravagance and power with the bishop. Those aware of the relationship have even nicknamed her as the Deputy Archbishop. Unfortunately, this is not just a love affair but a joint money laundering scheme as the bishop opened bank accounts in her name which he used to receive money from the former ruling party PF which he used to help campaign for PF. The Catholic church has never had such a bishop of low moral standards in Zambia. We urge the Vatican to thoroughly investigate this. We also urge DEC to investigate this clear case of money laundering.

2. Unfortunately, Bishop Banda has a string of other women. He has a very rich CV when it comes to women, which goes many years back. While he served as a deacon in Chingola, he was clobbered by a man whose wife he was going out with. People of Chingola can confirm this story. We wonder how he was vetted and allowed to be a bishop when all this was well known. While he served as bishop of Ndola, he had an open affair with a lady known as Mwila. When he was moved to Lusaka, he relocated Mwila to Lusaka as well. In fact, he makes no distinction between single and married women.

3. Abuse of Seminarian fund: we are grateful for the faithful who continue to donate generously to the church. One such fund Christians donate generously towards is the Seminarians fund, which is money used for the training of priests. In 2022, the faithful donated more than K3million towards this fund. This is an annual exercise. Unfortunately, the bishop uses part of this money to fund his misdeeds. For example, part of this money is used to support his daughter who is in University. He disguises the daughter as an orphan. A total lie. Let the Bishop deny this and we shall produce evidence. Unfortunately, this is not the only daughter he has. He has legion and is even more productive than married men. (We have never seen a bishop sink so low). We urge our faithful to demand audited financial reports from the bishop about the use of this money. The auditors should be chosen by independent people and not him. Then the faithful will see daylight robbery. For example, the faithful do not know that the cost of training one seminarian per year is about K23,000. Rome still pays a small amount towards each seminarian so each diocese only pays about K16,000 per year per seminarian. Each year, Lusaka diocese has an average of less than 30 seminarians. 30 x 16,000 per year is K480, 000. What then happens to the remainder of the K3million raised annually? The faithful should demand for answers. Since Bishop Alick likes criticising corruption in government, he should lead the way in terms of transparency and accountability over the utilisation of church funds.

4.Bishop as a PF Vuvuzela: One of the three core duties of the episcopate in the Catholic Church is teaching. Bishops are teachers of the faith. As teachers of the faith, bishops are called to preach the gospel and to side with the poor. As Pope Francis put it to the bishops in Madagascar, “bishops sow seeds of hope and of peace”, always siding with the poor and the weak in their preaching. Contrary to this, Bishop Alick Banda has been a high priest of the Patriotic Front (PF), now and before. For those who follow Archbishop Banda’s homilies (or sermons), they are close to embarrassing. They do not only lack profound basis in scripture or Catholic theology; they are hollow and without basic common sense or catechetical relevance. Often, their content is word-for-word from blogs of the Patriotic Front or related websites. Happily, our faithful are not docile and, for the first time in recent history, Catholics of good standing and without known partisan political persuasion have taken to social media to denounce Archbishop Banda’s partisan rants given as homilies, that sound more like political party rally messages than Catholic homilies based on Scripture. Most disturbing is that the Archbishop elected to be silent throughout the ten years of horrendous terror, torture, abuse, killings, and corruption of the previous regime. As priests, we are not opposed to our bishops playing their prophetic role, but what we do not support is clear hypocrisy and partisanship clothed in episcopal regalia.

5. Corruption in Construction of Bishop’s Private School: We appreciate that our Archdiocese is, unlike most dioceses in the country, privileged with wealthy resident Catholics who can make financing of projects easy. However, we all know that the construction of the Adrian Mung’andu School in Njolwe in Lusaka East was built from funds from the Archbishop’s corrupt friends in the previous administration of PF and their business allies without established accountability mechanisms. First, the previous administration irregularly assigned the Zambia National Service to clear the area for construction of a private property. The assignment was botched after an alarm for abuse of the ZNS was raised. President Lungu himself gave the bishop K700, 000 cash. Later during the 2021 election campaigns, President Lungu gave Bishop Banda K6million to share with priests to help campaing for PF in the church. Let the Bishop deny this. Even his vicar general, Fr Solomon, is aware of this. Bishop Mpundu is right to say Bishop Banda is the first Catholic Bishop in Zambia who succumbed to the culture of brown envelopes from politicians, abandoning all moral judgment.

6.Poor Governance of the Church: Bishop Banda uses his power to appoint and transfer priests to either punish those who are independent minded or reward those who don’t use their brains and willing to do anything for him, however immoral. Priests he does not like are sent to poor or rural parishes while those like Fr Kabungo and Fr Chitoshi who are his boys are given nicer and wealth parishes. It is for this reason that he got rid of Fr James Zulu and Fr Leonard from the Curia and brought in people who can do his bidding. He expects all priests he assigns nice parishes to raise money for him. Those who do not meet his targets are moved and sent to poor parishes. It is the first time the Catholic church is seeing such corrupt governance of the church in Zambia. More worrying, the Bishop has deliberately been avoiding establishing the Finance Committee for the archdiocese to preside over finance matters, as required by canon Law. This is in order to give him unlimited access to church funds, without any transparency and accountability.

We, as Catholics priests, have never before been subjected to such divisive leadership that feasts on abuse, corruption, financial lust, and political bitterness and vindictiveness. While we will continue to keep you our Catholic faithful updated of our observations of the Archbishop, we implore the Holy Sea to act decisively to remove Archbishop Banda and, with his, the toxicity that bedevils our church. The Church in Zambia is rich with more credible and well respected bishops like George Lungu, Raphael Mweempwa, Charles Kasonde, Valentine Kalumba and even Benjamin Phiri (although he often thinks after words have already escaped his mouth).

Yours in the Lord,

The Clergy of the Lusaka Archdiocese

NALUMANGO TEASING ZAMBIANS OVER ROLLER MEAL REMARK ALA BWESHENIFYE UBUNGA – MUNDUBILE

NALUMANGO TEASING ZAMBIANS OVER ROLLER MEAL REMARK ALA BWESHENIFYE UBUNGA – MUNDUBILE

Lusaka, Saturday (February 4, 2023)

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Brian Mundubile is disturbed by Republican Vice President Mutale Nalumango’s proposal for Zambians to eat Roller meal if they cannot afford Breakfast.

Featuring on Radio Phoenix yesterday, Ms Nalumango insisted that Roller was the best option stating that other Opposition leaders eat Roller meal.

Reacting to the Vice President, Mr. Mundubile who is also PF Presidential Candidate said the country needed practical solutions towards reducing the cost of mealie meal as opposed to Ms Nalumango’s proposal which was seemingly teasing Zambians.

Mr. Mundubile said the PF had practical solutions as it organized milling plants in order to reduce the cost of mealie meal.

“If I may take you back, during the PF when Government promised to reduce the cost of mealie meal they went ahead and acquired 2000 solar powered milling plants and a number of industrial milling plants constructed in Provinces such as Southern and Muchinga,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile said the cost of Green Eagles mealie meal is lower in Southern Province because of the industrial milling plant built by the PF administration run by the Zambia National Service (ZNS) in Monze.

“This was a practical solution and we have seen the milling plants working in most parts of the country. If you go to Southern Province in districts such as Monze, Choma, Sinanzongwe among others, the price of mealie meal (Green Eagles by ZNS) may not be the same as obtaining in other parts of the country.

Mr. Mundubile said Government recently commissioned another plant in Mongu District in Western Province where it was expected that the price of mealie meal in that area would be low.

“What is expected is against the promise that they made of reducing the cost of mealie meal, we should hear practical solutions. What I have highlighted are solutions that were brought about by the PF,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile wondered why the UPND promised to reduce the cost of mealie meal without a plan on practical solutions.

“The questions that begs is that in the case of the UPND, when they were promising cheaper mealie meal, what exactly did they have in mind? It is therefore, unfortunate that her honor the Vice President is making proposals that are seemingly meant to tease the Zambian people,” he said.

Mr. Mundubile called on Government to take the issue of high cost of mealie-meal seriously and find lasting solutions to ensuring that prices were reduced.

ABOUT MY DAUGHTER MILLIE & SONNY WALTER MULWANDA- Miles Sampa

ABOUT MY DAUGHTER MILLIE & SONNY WALTER MULWANDA

I actually dropped tears yesterday when I watched my daughter “Auntie Milly” cry on live feed. Emotionally so and hurt deep from inside. I then got to locate the video where her husband (my son “ba Mulwanda”)was exhibiting a cut on his arm.

Later when I listened to the contents of her long address, I realized the serious extent of their argument or fight this time around. She had just revealed to the public the long hidden secret that I have been trying to help them through in handling her husband’s substance abuse problem. I have been counseling both and individually to help them through their marriage and lives in general.

The times you would have seen me with Sonny, be it interviewing him or just hanging out, it would be attempts to get him away from mischief. Each time I get a call from him selling seedlings , however many they are just for K200, then I would know he needs the little but billion cash in his mind just for the next batch of whatever he is hooked on to.

I sat them down once in a small room just the 3 of us. It was like a boiler pot calling each other names, , screams, suicide threats, crying from both sides and in the end me too.
“ You guys caught my attention as a pair and thought you were doing very well together in the public eye and business wise. If you think either one of you will make it solo, then you lying to yourselves” and so I concluded to them and ended the meeting. I told them that despite loving them both, I would keep a distance as neither seemed to heed to my guidance on their lives and marriage.

Months later ,last year and this year I would hear about them together in church and preaching. I would smile with happiness when I would watch them together doing their thing and looking happy.

To wake up to their videos yesterday actually broke my heart. My take is that neither can handle life without the other. We have been at this point before. They both love each dearly and maybe a case of excess love in a relationship is as dangerous as no love at all.

They both respect and genuinely look out for me. I will continue and ask all that care about them and their children to keep them in prayers. They are exceptional and lovely people individually but more so as a couple.

God bless you Walter and Milly.

I love you both.

Jasmine Is My Daughter, Actor Mr Ibu Debunks Wife’s Infidelity Claim

Jasmine Is My Daughter, Actor Mr Ibu Debunks Wife’s Infidelity Claim

Nollywood actor, Mr Ibu, has said that Jasmine Okafor, is his adopted daughter following his wife, Stella’s accusation that he is having a romantic relationship with Jasmine.

He clarified this along with his second son, Daniel, in an Instagram live session he had with Daddy Freeze on Friday night.

Mr Ibu’s wife told a popular blogger, Gistlover, on Friday that Jasmine is having an affair with her husband and has taken over her husband’s Instagram account in an attempt to dupe him because he suffers from dementia and can’t remember things.

She also stated that her children are not attending school because Jasmine has been receiving all of her husband’s income and that she must go through her before receiving money from her husband.

Debunking the claim, Mr Ibu said that Stella is his second wife and that she is aware that Jasmine is his adopted daughter before he married her.

Speaking on behalf of his father during the live session, Daniel said, “She is his 100 per cent his daughter not biological but adopted right from childhood.”

The actor went on to say that he has been taking care of his wife and children, and that he has even bought her cars, which she has sold without giving him a dime.

His son also stated that Jasmine took care of their father when Stella refused to stay with him in the hospital and paid N500,000 to retrieve and verify his father’s Instagram account

He said, “She (Jasmine) was in Cyprus then. When she heard the news, she came to Abuja to take care of my dad, paying the bills while he was in the hospital.

“Before, my daddy’s Instagram account was hacked, she was the one that paid N500k to get it. The account was not verified then and she was the one that got the account verified.

“I can remember when he was in the hospital and doctor asked her ‘Is your husband taking the drugs?’ She said she doesn’t know. She left the man alone and went to a party.”

Lil Wayne Opens Up About Having A Kid At 14 During Global Impact Award Acceptance Speech

0

Lil Wayne recently opened up about how his mom encouraged him to become a father when he was just 14 years old. Moreover, he shared his story while receiving Dr. Dre’s Global Impact Award from the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective. While he gave a speech accepting the honor, he spoke on the early years of his life right before he became a star. “I walked into my momma room and I was 14. She asked me for a kid because my dad was killed. Her son had just blew up and went on his first tour. We did not know that was gonna be six months.

When I came home…” he continued. “She said ‘Son, I can’t live in this house by myself. We’re gonna have to figure something out.’ I’d like to thank Antonia Johnson,” the mother of Tunechi’s first daughter Reginae. Moreover, he continued: “for reasoning with me and my mom, and my life. I’d like to thank every single one of my kids and every single one of their mothers.” Also, the Young Money MC reflected on his humble beginnings.

“I want you all to know that I don’t get honored,” he said. “Where I’m from, New Orleans, you’re not supposed to do this.” However, now as a living legend in hip-hop, he proved that the praise is worth it. “Lil Wayne…I love you so much,” Drake said when presenting the award. “I know I probably get annoying with saying how much you mean to me and my family, but I think I speak on behalf of everybody when I say that our careers, our cadences, our melodies, maybe our face tats or our outfits or our decisions in general would not have been the same without your natural gift to just be yourself.”

Meanwhile, Weezy’s legacy seems more celebrated than ever. For one, he’ll perform at this year’s Grammys along with many other MCs to celebrate hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. Also, the New Orleans MC recently announced dates for the upcoming Welcome To Tha Carter tour. While hip-hop evolves and shifts and finds new exponents, those of Tunechi’s caliber define the game for years and years. Overall, huge props to the one and only Lil Wayne, and check back into HNHH for the latest news on his incredible career.

Local Private Sector Meeting With the President, a Meeting of -Not-So-Local- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Local Private Sector Meeting With the President, a Meeting of -Not-So-Local

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

The invitation list has made news, not for its noble intention, but for it’s lack of proper representation, lack of inclusiveness and many have commented that the list is not “local”.

None of the local and home-grown well-known businessmen such as Stephen Mikalile, who is a pioneer in hospitality, or Fisho Mwale who has helped pioneer fish farming, have been invited.

Football Association of Zambia President Andrew Kamanga, who is a local pioneer in the Energy sector has been left out.

You have young, thriving entrepreneurs that have been left out such as Oscar Chavula from Hot FM Media Group or Costa Mwansa from Diamond Television.

It has also left out key sectors’ representation especially from the small and medium enterprises.

Well-known local industrialists and manufacturers such as Monica Katebe Musonda of Java Foods have been left out.

Then you have mischaracterisation or misrepresentation. Take for example Prof. Oliver Saasa representing the mining sector.

Prof Saasa is a consultant. Inviting local miners such as Dr. Sixtus Mulenga and other known local miners would have made sense.

Recently Prof. Saasa was awarded the First Quantum Minerals (FQM) Ltd.’s US$1.3 billion expansion investment evaluation consultancy through his consultancy firm, Premier Consult. How does he become a miner?

This is a President that has refused to pay local contractors, suppliers and consultants under the pretext that their claims were being audited. The audit exercise has gone beyond the two months time frame, audit firms were given in July 2022.

Government owes them over $4.5billion, a matter that has seriously and adversely affected their business and money supply in the economy.

This is a President who is constantly accused of promoting foreign interests and foreign businesses.

If the aim is to drive economic growth and job creation, the list would have been more representative and the President would have benefited from the perspective, opportunities and challenges facing genuine local private sector.

The State House Special Assistant for Finance and Investments would have consulted sector ministries to come up with the invitation list as they have on their data list business persons thriving to succeed in a harsh economy.

But it appears to be a meeting of supporters than a representation of local private sector.

HH THREATENING ME…but I’m on a mission, ready to take any risk – Kambwili

0

HH THREATENING ME…but I’m on a mission, ready to take any risk – Kambwili

CHISHIMBA Kambwili claims PresidentHakainde has instructed police to arrest him for hate speech.
Kamwbili, a PF presidential hopeful, on Tuesday took to Facebook where he alleged he has intelligence information that police have been instructed by the President to have him arrested as hate speech was a serious
crime.

“They have been instructed by the President because he threatened me. He told me this is an offence but I never committed any offence,
suffice to say this is not the first time that the President is threatening me,” Kambwili said.
“You sent me a message to say ‘you are going to find yourself in hot soup’ and ‘you will fail to come out of these problems’. Now how do we have a President who threatens citizens and when we say police are instructed from State House, people think it is a joke. What have I done to you Mr President for you to send police officers? All the records are there. Even the police officers were being unprofessional. I know what instructions they have been given because I did find out
from the system. They said ‘the instruction we have been given is to lock you up like [Chilufya] Tayali, not to give you bond and not to take you to court in time for like 10 days’. Mr President let me tell you I am used to this.”
Kambwili said he did not fear arrest.

“I was arrested 16 times and every time I was arrested, I was detained not less than five days. And by the way I have been to jail. I was in jail for 18 days on political intimidation and political persecution. I am used and for you who brought the call out, bring it tomorrow [yesterday] I will report myself. I will not be intimidated in my own country,” he said. “I will not be scared. Bring the call out or phone me, tell me where I
am required because we didn’t collect the call out. So we don’t know what is there but I was told police brought a call out that I should
report myself to Force Headquarters.”

Kambwili said President Hichilema seems to have forgotten what they went through together while in opposition.
“…even sending them messages saying ‘this is a serious offence’. Don’t try to threaten me. Nalikosa mukati na kunse (I’m strong inside out). Nalishimpula mfwayafye ukwakusha umutwe. Icibemba citili wapapa kalama (I’m on a mission and ready to take any risk. In Bemba we say you are stuck with something),” he warned. “I challenge you we will meet in court and we will see whether I have
committed an offence of tribalism.”

And Kambwili said he would sue SMEs minister Elias Mubanga for labelling
him a tribalist.

“I want to warn Mubanga, Minister of Small and Medium Enterprises, today [Tuesday] I was watching you when you had the Bemba people explaining about tribalism. The Bemba ministers, you said and I quote ‘ba Kambwili lekeni ifya kula cita promote tribalism (Mr Kambwili, stop promoting tribalism), stop paying young people to come to your house’. Mubanga I don’t play politics and I will take you on. My lawyers are already writing to justify those accusations and also (Simon) Mwewa lane, my lawyers Ferd Jere and
Company are writing to you,” he said.

Kambwili said if there was something wrong he had said, he was ready to apologise as he did to the chiefs when he suggested that Tongas would rather vote for President Hichilema where they had an option of
Jesus in an election.

“Even you UPND secretary general [Batuke Imenda], my lawyers are writing to you,” he warned.
Kambwili said a government that uses police to intimidate citizens is insecure.

“Wina azalila (someone will cry). Whatever UPND is doing, watch. You can pretend by
bringing 40 ministers to try and explain but if the people are complaining, they are not getting full, they are hungry, no matter
what you are going to do the people of Zambia will speak on the ballot,” said Kambwili. “I love the Tonga people. I have nothing against the Tongas. Ask my sister-in-law and brothers-in-law who are Tongas, the way I treat them. Even the bride price, they gave to me. I am the one who removed money to marry for my younger ones. The only thing is people want to create an impression that I hate the Tongas so that the Tonga people cannot give me their vote. That is not right. And I think we must stop this.”

What is Fueling Tribal Politics Debates is Failure by UPND to Honour their Promise-Fred M’membe

0

Socialist President Dr Fred M’membe has issued yesterday issued a statement on his Facebook page addressing the ongoing debates surrounding tribal politics in Zambia. In the statement, Dr M’membe sheds light on the accusations being made against Mr Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND over tribalism and the recent debates around the issue.

Dr M’membe points out that the reason for these accusations could be the promises made by Mr Hichilema and the UPND to have a tribal and regionally balanced and representative government.

However, as Dr M’membe notes, critics are now asking whether what they are seeing aligns with what they were promised. He goes on to list key positions in the government and key state institutions, including the judiciary and key government ministries, and highlights that the Tonga and Lozi tribes appear to be heavily represented, with very little or no meaningful participation from the rest of the tribes in the country.

Critics are questioning the representation in key positions of the government and justice system in Zambia. The President, Vice-President, Speaker, Chief Justice, Acting President of the Constitutional Court, Attorney General, Solicitor General, and Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission are either Tonga or Lozi, with very limited participation from other ethnic groups. The same pattern can be seen in the key government ministries, with Tonga and Lozi holding the majority of the positions.

The situation is even more pronounced in the defence and security agencies, where there is a lack of representation from the East and North regions, despite promises of a balanced representation from the political leadership. The Electoral Commission of Zambia also reflects this trend, with the chairperson and vice-person being Lozi and the remaining commissioners being Tonga, Lozi, and Lunda, with no one from the East or North.

Critics argue that this concentration of power in the hands of just a few ethnic groups undermines the diversity and fairness of the country’s institutions and justice system. They are calling for a more equitable distribution of key positions across all regions and ethnic groups in order to ensure a balanced representation and a just society.

Dr M’membe also raises concerns over the representation of tribes in key defense and security agencies, pointing out that there is no one from the East or North in these positions, which is not in line with the political leadership’s promise to keep the tribal and regional balance. Similarly, Dr M’membe raises concerns about the lack of representation from the East or North in the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

As Dr M’membe notes, these concerns are being raised, but the response has been to label those raising them as tribalists and divisive elements, and to prosecute or persecute them on charges of tribal hatred. He states that this is putting the multiparty political dispensation back in the spotlight, as the concern is no longer about the lack of political pluralism or diversity but about the hijacking of the political processes by tribal politics.

Dr M’membe notes that the challenge to the multiparty political dispensation is not the prevalence of ethnic diversity but the use of identity politics to promote narrow tribal interests. He argues that the African experience over the past six decades has shown the dangers of ethnic competition and underscores the importance of building nations around ideas rather than clan identities.

Dr M’membe points out that in the absence of efforts to build genuine political parties with clear ideologies that compete on the basis of ideas, tribal identities have become the foundation for political competition. He argues that leaders are often exploiting tribal loyalty to advance personal gain, parochial interests, patronage, and cronyism.
Dr M’membe argues that tribal practices are occupying a vacuum created by the lack of strong multiparty democratic institutions and that political parties are unable to find common ground through coherent party manifestos and ideological positions. He notes that many members of the political parties often don’t even know that their parties have manifestos, which are only issued just before the elections as much of the effort goes into regional manoeuvring and building tribal alliances.

Dr M’membe notes that tribal politicians are clever and calculating, quick to dress in the latest fashion and co-opt emerging trends to preserve their identities. He argues that their sole mission is self-preservation, with the side effect of subverting multiparty democratic evolution.

The way forward, according to Dr M’membe, lies in concerted efforts to build modern political parties founded on strong ideological foundations, clear development ideas, and not tribal bonds. He argues that political parties must base their competition for power on ideological and development platforms and that defining party platforms will need to be supported by the search for ideas, not the appeal to tribal coalitions.

Dr M’membe concludes by stating that political parties that create genuine ideological and development platforms will launch initiatives that reflect popular needs, while those that rely on manipulating ethnic alliances will bring sectarian animosity into government business by appointing people from their tribes and allied ethnicities to key government positions.

Tayali express his relief after being released from detention

Opposition Economic and Equity Party (EEP) President Chilufya Tayali has expressed his relief after being released from detention on Police Bond as he awaits court appearance.

Police in Lusaka last week on Friday January 29, 2023 arrested Mr. Tayali for the offence of Hate Speech Contrary to Section 65 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crime Act No.2 of 2021.

Mr. Tayali, 48, of House Number 38 Ngwezi Road in Roma Township, Lusaka was on Wednesday released on Police Bond awaiting court appearance.

According to Zambia Police Service Deputy Public Relations Officer Danny Mwale, Mr Tayali’s arrest was in connection with the recent remarks he allegedly made and posted on various social media platforms where he mentioned some traditional Chiefs and some Commanders from the Defence and Security wings between January 1and 29, 2023.

Commenting on his release, Mr. Tayali said the experience in Police cells is painful and torturous regardless of how many times one has been arrested in the past.

He thanked people that advocated his release from Police detention among them Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe and PF Presidential aspirant Brian Mundubile.

“No matter how many times you have been in cells, the experience is painful and torturous, so when you come back home you feel so relieved. I am grateful to all of you who stood with me, I appreciate every comment and article written for me or indeed anything you did for me. I am exceedingly beholden to all those that braved the long distance and traffic to come and see me in cells at Westwood police station, 40Km from Force Headquarters where I was arrested. Brian Mundubile you define friendship and loyalty as it should be, you are never too big or busy to drive to wherever I am locked up. You have done this not only for me but others, as well, which shows natural leadership in you. Fred M’membe Bakalamba I am highly indebted for continuous support for justice in our Country. You have spent almost your whole life on this. I am also grateful for your compassion as well as generosity to people facing injustice. Thanks for your presence,” Mr. Tayali stated in a facebook post.

“Apostle Kunda, you are my anchor in my journey, to uplift me spiritually and physically when I find myself in difficulties. When many people are scared to come near, especially those spiritual fathers and friends, you defy the odds and come to see me. To my daughters and their only man Andy, I am grateful for always running to my aid and ensuring I am okay regardless of wherever they take me. To my wife, thank you for your support albeit your antipathy to politics, but you do it for me. I am highly indebted to you. To my lawyers, I am sincerely obliged; you fight for me inside and outside the court. I know that today you were also in court battling it out for me in the assault case which has been adjourned to 20th March,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tayali has promised to address President Hakainde Hichilema on Thursday night.

“To the police, I expressed myself to some of you directly and I will not bring it here. I also promised to keep engaging so that we have an understanding, because one day will certainly be in a position to make your life better instead of making things worse. I don’t want bitterness. To those in Government, particularly President Hakainde Hichilema, I will address you tomorrow at 20:00 HOURS,” he said.

Mr. Tayali was last November detained by Police for four days on charges of bringing the name of President Hakainde Hichilema into disrepute.

He had been arrested earlier in April and May 2022 on assorted number of charges.

Nalumango Addresses Lack of Fuel Subsidies, Advises Zambians on Eating Habits and Agricultural Input

0

Vice President Mutale Nalumango has stated that the government does not have the funds to subsidize fuel. During an appearance on the “Let People Talk” program on Phoenix FM, the Vice President highlighted that the available resources have been allocated towards providing free education, quality health services and other sectors. However, she stated that the government is in the process of clearing the Indeni Oil Pipeline to reduce the cost of fuel transportation, which is expected to result in lower fuel prices.

Mrs Nalumango also stressed the importance of managing the available maize stocks to avoid food shortages. She pointed out that while the country is food secure and has adequate maize stocks, the recent weather patterns have necessitated the need to ensure that available stocks are not depleted. Mrs. Nalumango stated that even the recent exports of maize were controlled.

During the program, the Vice President also spoke about the importance of eating roller meal, which is cheaper and more nutritious than breakfast maize meal, according to her office’s studies. She advised farmers to use cow dung instead of expensive fertilizers, which will save them money. Mrs. Nalumango also challenged fellow politicians, including Hon. Harry Kalaba and Chishimba Kambwili, to deny whether they eat roller meal.

Critics have responded to Mrs Nalumango’s statements by pointing out that the Vice President is missing the point as Zambians are complaining about the rising cost of food in the absence of money and poverty, not the nutrition value of roller meal. Nalumango also accused oil marketing companies of hoarding fuel to profit from the monthly ERB increases in fuel prices, a similar accusation she made against millers.

The Vice President stated that the country is not responsible for fuel price hikes as Zambia does not produce its own oil. She expects fuel prices to eventually come down with the help of the TAZAMA oil pipeline and a deal with Angola. Nalumango recognized that President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND promised a good life and reduced cost of living, but warned Zambians that these promises were based on little information and that the UPND has discovered that the PF did more damage than previously thought.

Mrs Nalumango advised Zambians to remember that the UPND and President Hichilema have five years to be judged and that the delays in fulfilling promises are due to limited information. The full interview can be found at the link provided.

Gulfstream jet is a crime scene, President Hichilema will never get close to it- Thabo Kawana

0

The government says it considers the controversial presidential jet, the Gulfstream as a crime scene because Zambians lost millions of dollars in its procurement.

And Government has confirmed that President Hakainde Hichilema hired a private jet to attend this week’s SADC Troika summit in Namibia.

Ministry of Information Spokesperson Thabo Kawana vowed that president Hichilema will never use the Gulfstream as long as he remains Head of State.

Mr. Kawana said as far as the new dawn administration is concerned, the Gulfstream is a crime scene and that President Hichilema will never touch it.

“That Gulfstream is a crime scene and the President will never ever get close to it. Through that crime, Zambians lost millions of dollars and this is the reason we have insisted that it should be sold and proceeds returned to the Zambian people through the Treasury,” Mr Kawana said.

He was speaking on Thursday morning when he featured on Hot FM’s Hot Seat radio programme.

The Ministry of Information Spokesperson confidently revealed that there will be some arrests of key individuals connected to the procurement of the Gulfstream this month.

“We are in February, right? You will see what will happen this month, there shall be some major arrests happening this month over the same thing,” he stated.

Mr Kawana also revealed that government hired a private jet to enable President Hichilema attend a SADC Troika summit in Windhoek, Namibia.
“Yes something was paid but I don’t have the exact details,” Mr Kawana said.

He said the private jet was hired because the Presidential Challenger was in service in South Africa.

Mr. Kawana explained that the hired private jet was procured from the same entity that was servicing the Presidential Challenger.

He explained that President Hichilema had to charter a jet to get into Namibia and enable him to return to Lusaka on the same.

“Presidential travel is complex and very detailed but when you hire, the cost is reduced by far and this was a day trip so it was cost effective.”

We need law to regulate political party funding – ACC

We need law to regulate political party funding – ACC

By Fanny Kalonda

ANTI-CORRUPTION Commission director general Tom Shamakamba has stressed the need for the country to enact a law to regulate political party funding.

He says there must be a limit on how much funding must be and the source of where that money is coming from.

Shamakamba also stressed the need to strengthen laws that govern the declaration of assets for public persons and state offices so that there is transparency and accountability in the lifestyles of such individuals.

“We need to put an act in place which should regulate political funding. And there must be a limit on how much funding must be and there was be declaration of the source where that money is coming from. Because if you are just going to receive money from anywhere, tomorrow you can even receive money…” he said. “So there must be declaration of source of funding and equally there must be a limit because again if you have too much money, you can destabilise the economy. You can destabilise the security of the country, and normally you know politics with money is very dynamic. People can buy their way in. So I think the major issue is we need a law that should regulate political funding.”

Shamakamba noted with interest the calls for lifestyle audits for public officers.

“The commission notes with interest calls for lifestyle audits especially for public officers. In order to make these audits practical, we need to strengthen the laws that govern declaration of assets for public persons that are appointed into public and state offices so that there is transparency and accountability in the lifestyles of such individuals,” said Shamakamba.

Transparency International Chapter president Sampa Kalungu noted that politicians “grow short legs” whenever the issue of declaration of assets is mentioned.

He noted that both the current and previous governments would not smile about bringing the law to compel them to declare assets and source of funding.

“Here in Zambia, since the time of president [Levy] Mwanawasa up to today, this is an area where you see political parties agreeing on one thing. They grow very slow legs when you mention the word declaration of anything. The current government, the previous government, they won’t smile to bring about the law,” he noted. “Director General you need to do a lot canvassing for that law to come into effect because our ….is very agreeable most of the times to preventing such a law to come into effect for various reasons.”

Kalungu said there is need for all Zambians to push for such a law.

“So this is a big fact and we know it that when monies come, the people receive the money, when they are in power they tend to favour those that gave them money and this has continued for a long time,” said Kalungu.

“So for this and such a campaign, it should not only remain with the Anti-Corruption Commission, Transparency International Zambia, but we should actually rally Zambians to push our political parties, all political parties – like I am saying they are so reluctant to bring up this law. If you were to test it among our parliamentarians, how many of those are going to agree? But as we know also parliamentarians only might decide what they want to do unless their leaders of political parties decide what to do. So this is an appeal Director General, bring about such a law in Zambia.”

Death penalty can easily be returned by next President – GEARS

By Edwin Mbulo in Livingstone

THE death penalty can easily be returned by the next Head of State until Article 12 (1) is addressed in the Constitution, says GEARS
Initiative programmes coordinator Gideon Musonda.

Addressing the press at Cheshire Homes, Musonda said the Constitution in Article 12 (1) provides for exceptions.
“Yes that provision cannot be implemented without the enabling subsidiary provision such as the Penal Code or any other subsidiary provision.

In short what I am saying is that we have done some good works to remove it but let’s hit the nail on the head by removing that exception provision that is in the Constitution so that it cannot be easily be brought back. Because if we have another president who may not mean well in terms of this death penalty, may be easily be brought back. You only need a simple majority in parliament to enact a subsidiary legislation,” he noted. “If we remove it from the Constitution you will be talking of a referendum for you to bring
back that death penalty.”

Musonda said Zambia was undergoing a review process at the UN and that on
January 30 the country presented its national report on the recommendations made through the third Universal Periodic Review (UPR) cycle.
“We would like to urge you the media and the general citizens to take keen interest in following and reporting on government’s national report on progress made regarding Zambia’s compliance with international human rights obligations and recommendations made by other countries. As part of the UN’s Universal Periodic Review on human rights in Zambia, GEARS Initiative Zambia and CIVICUS submitted
a report examining the state of civil society in the country, including recommendations on how to protect and foster civil society
rights.

The recommendations were submitted in July 2022 and highlight report acts of intimidation and attacks on citizens, human rights defenders (HRDs), civil society organisations (CSOs) and journalists
in the period leading up to and during the presidential and parliamentary elections in August 2021” he said. “GEARS Initiative have noted with concern on Zambia’s failure to conclude reforms on various pieces of legislations hence recurring recommendations such as expansion of the Bill of Rights; review of the Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code; NGO Act, Access to Information law; public order Act. These recommendations have also been made in 2023 UPR review. Countries like USA, Sweden, Poland,
Panama, Mexico among others made such recommendations including the need to enact political party bill and review the cyber security and cyber crime Act.”

Musonda noted that there has been improvement in the enjoyment of
freedom of expression, movement, association and assembly in that citizens are able to demonstrate, assemble and protest with restrained force from the police.

“However, we need to do more on that. There is steady improvement of CSO-government…” he said.
On issues of advocacy, Musonda said there is need to expedite legislative reforms and harmonisation.
“GEARS will continue holding engagements using various platforms for purposes of disseminating information and stakeholders mobilisation around the process,” said Musonda.

“THE MAN WHO NEVER GAVE UP ON HIS DREAMS. MR. BEAN (ROWAN ATKINSON)

Rowan Atkinson was born in a middle-class family and suffered terribly as a child because of his stuttering. He was also teased and bullied at school because of his looks. His bullies thought he looked like an alien. He was soon marked a strange and became a very shy, withdrawn kid who didn’t have many friends, so he dived into science, one of his teachers said. There was nothing outstanding about him. “I did not expect him to be a brilliant scientist, but he has proved everyone wrong.” His teacher said Admitted to Oxford University, he started falling in love with acting but couldn’t perform due to his speaking disorder. He got his master’s degree in electrical engineering before appearing in any movie or TV show. After getting his degree, he decided to pursue his dream and become an actor so he enrolled in a comedy group but again, his stammering got in the way.

A lot of TV shows rejected him, and he felt devastated but despite the many rejections he never stopped believing in himself. He had a great passion for making people laugh and knew that he was very good at it. He started focusing more and more on his original comedy sketches and soon realized that he could speak fluently whenever he played some character. He found a way to overcome his stuttering and his also used there is an inspiration for his acting. While studying for his master’s Rowan Atkinson co-created the strange, surreal, and now speaking character known as Mr. Bean.

He had success with other shows, Mr. Bean made him globally famous and despite all the obstacles, he faced because of his looks and his speaking disorder, he proved that even without a heroic body or a Hollywood face, you can become one of the most loved and respected actors in the world. The motivational success story of Rowan Atkinson is so inspiring because it teaches is that to be successful in life, the most important things are passion, hard work, dedication and never giving up, because without caring about our feelings and weaknesses.”

Pope Francis meets bishops of episcopal conference of Congo, condemns deadly violence in the east

Pope Francis has met with bishops of the National Episcopal Conference of Congo before leaving for South Sudan. In Kinshasa, the capital of Africa’s largest Catholic country, the pontiff condemned the deadly violence in the east, called on leaders to put an end to corruption and on young people to be “actors” in the country’s future.

After a final address to the bishops Friday, he departed for a “pilgrimage of peace” to Christian-majority South Sudan, the world’s youngest state, devastated by a bloody civil war and one of the poorest in the world.

In Juba, the 86-year-old Pope will be accompanied by the heads of the Churches of England and Scotland, representatives of the two other Christian denominations in this country of 12 million inhabitants.

The three church leaders have been personally involved in the peace process, despite leaders turning a deaf ear to calls for reconciliation and sides being accused of war crimes.

After decades of fighting with Sudan and two years after independence, the country plunged into a bloody five-year civil war between Salva Kiir and Riek Machar in 2013 that killed some 380,000 people, displaced millions and left the economy in tatters.

And despite a peace agreement in 2018, the violence continues, fuelled by political elites. The church plays a surrogate role in areas without any government services and where humanitarians are often attacked or even killed.

In 2019, a year after a peace agreement, Francis received the two enemy brothers at the Vatican and knelt down to kiss their feet, begging them to make peace, a strong symbolic gesture that left its mark.

– Public holiday –

Throughout the streets of the capital, the logo of this visit adorns billboards, clothes and banners. The roads were freshly tarmacked, a rarity in this city of dusty streets where stray goats shelter under cars from the hot sun.

Expected at 3pm (1300 GMT), the Argentine Jesuit will pay a courtesy call on the president and vice-presidents and then give a first speech at the presidential palace to the authorities and diplomatic corps.

On Saturday, he will meet with Catholic religious and internally displaced persons and will celebrate an ecumenical prayer, before presiding over a mass on Sunday.

Hundreds of people have flocked to Juba from the rest of the country and beyond. Some 60 young pilgrims have even walked 400km – some in sandals – along the country’s trails preaching unity in a country with more than 60 ethnic groups.

“The message we hope to send to the people is that we should be one and make peace with each other,” 20-year-old student Tafisa Chol told AFP.

Some 5,000 extra police and soldiers were deployed on the streets, security officials said, while Friday was declared a public holiday in the country.

The papal trip, which was scheduled for July 2022 and then postponed, has so far been marked by a strong call from Francis for an end to the “cruel atrocities” in eastern DRC and to the corruption that is confiscating the wealth of this huge African country.

This is the 40th international trip of the head of the Catholic Church since his election in 2013, the third to sub-Saharan Africa.
