Mnangagwa Seeks Russia’s Protection Against Zambia
…Claims America is consolidating power in Zambia_
Zimbabwea’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has asked for military support from Russia to protect his country from Zambia, which he claims is being backed by the United States of America and other Western countries.
On Thursday, June 6, President Mnangagwa conferred with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the 27th International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg. The two leaders discussed strengthening relations between their nations.
During the meeting, President Mnangagwa said Zambia had emerged as a security threat to his nation, claiming that America and other Western countries had been strengthening their power in the neighboring country.
“The West has just started consolidating their power in Zambia, our next neighbor. You know there was a time when Zambia and Zimbabwe were one and it was Rhodesia then called Northern and Southern Rhodesia, when it was owned by the British but we are now separate and the Americans are now consolidating their power in that country both in terms of security and in terms financial support to Zambia to make sure that we feel lonely,” the Zimbabwean leader told President Putin.
President Mnangagwa’s statement comes barely eight days after he visited Zambia in Livingstone to attend the 2024 Heads of State Summit where he was warmly received by Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema. The two leaders also held a tete-a-tete before taking photos together.
Zambia and Zimbabwe have enjoyed warm relations since before their respective liberation from British colonial rule 1964 and 1980, with the former having played a major role and contributed significantly to its neighbor’s liberation struggle.

My thoughts exactly. What did president Mnangagwa hope achieve by talking ill of the neighbor? Wise people don’t take such people seriously because they would do the same to them at some point so I doubt president Putin has taken him seriously.
And thiis really shameful for an African leader. If at all Zambia is a threat to Zimbabwe which we all know it is not, why didn’t president Mnangagwa take the matter to African leaders but instead he goes to white people, what does that say about our ability to lead ourselves? How can Africa develop like this? On one hand we claim pan Africanism but on the other we run to the imperialist we condemn when it suits us to solve our issues.
There’s something even more troubling. Why was the video of what Emerson Mnangagwa said to Vladimir Putin leaked and who leaked it? Do we know the answer or answers to these questions? Zimbabwe as an economy collapsed before HH became President of Zambia. What I know for sure is that Russia is not going to help Zimbabwe to rebuild its economy because politics in our southern neighbour has become too toxic. Zimbabwe does not even have a currency of its own to help it run a reliable money economy. Pension funds and local government authorities have all just about collapsed in Zimbabwe.
There’s no bad mouthing anyone here. HH chose to betray our brotherly coexistence by bringing the Zimbabwean oppressors even closer. Our president is dividing everything. 2026 he must step aside for the sake of peace. If war was to start today Russia and Middle east will target Zambia to protect their interests in southern Africa. Then Zambia will automatically turn into a American fighting ground.
Aside that we are headed for destruction economically. We all know what America does to it’s 3rd world allies.
I think this is the backing someone was hoping for if civil unrest were to happen in Zambia. Someone was being backed by the crocodile

Unfortunately, Mnangagwa has maintained most of Mugabe’s policies. Zambia is a sovereign country and can relate with anyone including Russia. There are too many Zimbabweans in all of it’s neighboring countries. A normal president should not not have a loose mouth like that. Just like Mugabe he wants to provoke the entire region and disrupt road trade transport between South Africa and other countries.

Why Zimbabwe? Is she the only neighbor? We have Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Cong DR, Angola, Namibia and Botswana, why should Zimbabwe alone feel threatened? The same Russia you are talking about came to conduct military exercises in South Africa and Zimbabwe never felt threatened, that’s just a going nowhere propaganda from the enemies of our President and our country.

It takes a think tank to understand the direction of Mnangagwa’s presentation on the said threats to Putin.
Do we have people that have genuinely studied diplomacy in Zambia? A Diplomat should be to ready between the thin line separating the cause and the possible consequences of such presentations by an African Head of State to a supper power.
Zambians and the Zambian government should not waste time bragging or pointing fingers at Zimbabwe……a serious diplomatic step should be made as soon as possible.
Leave our hard working President alone. He is trying his best for mother Zambia. Keep ur Zim and he will he keep his Zambia. HH is an all weather friend, East, West South and North ……
