Battle for ECL body comes up in court on Monday 4th August 2025 in Pretoria

President Hakainde Hichilema wants the Pretoria Court to compel the Widow, the former First Lady, Esther Lungu and her children, to surrender the body to the State for burial in Zambia.

Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha’s lawyers are expected to open trial by citing alleged tradition and customs and that Edgar Lungu was state property.

  1. Why is the opposition in south Africa so mute on the issue of ECL.How can a former President start doing business transactions without the blessings of the south African government ? It shows how porous the SADC region is because one can even hire rebels to fight a neighbor in secrecy as the case is now ? How does the Zimbabwean government if it true issue a former President with passport ? ECL is not an ordinary person,he is a state asset just as those Cabon disaster footballers who perished in air crush `~ they were brought back and buried in their mother land so is ECL.
