CHANODA NGWIRA JOINS TONSE ALLIANCE, TAKES UP LABOUR & SOCIAL SERVICES ROLE

…pledges fearless fight for workers’ rights

Veteran labour crusader Chanoda Frackson Ngwira has accepted his appointment as National Chairman for Labour and Social Services in the Tonse Alliance, vowing to robustly champion the rights and welfare of Zambian workers.

Mr Ngwira, a seasoned figure in Zambia’s labour movement, brings decades of hands-on experience, having worked with key unions including the Grain and Meat Workers Union of Zambia (GRAMUZ), the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) and the Zambia Union of Government and Allied Workers (ZUGAW).

Speaking after accepting the role, Ngwira said his long service in both public and private sector labour spaces has grounded him in the real challenges workers face.

“I am well conversant with conditions of service in both the public and private sectors, and I appreciate the realities on the ground,” he said.

He added that he accepts the responsibility with humility and resolve.

“I pledge to execute my duties diligently, without fear or favour, in the best interests of workers and the nation at large.”

Political observers view Ngwira’s appointment as a strategic boost to the Tonse Alliance’s labour and social services agenda, particularly at a time when workers continue to grapple with rising living costs, job insecurity and strained social protections.

Widely respected across the labour movement, Ngwira’s entry into the Tonse Alliance has ignited renewed optimism among workers and trade unions, many of whom are hopeful his leadership will translate into concrete policy action and improved working conditions.
