Opposition should remain at the graveyard, Hichilema tells Lundazi electorate
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has urged the people of Lundazi to give the UPND another mandate, saying the party has performed exceptionally well during its first term in office and deserves the opportunity to continue delivering on its development agenda.
Addressing supporters during a campaign rally, President Hichilema said voters who want peace and continued development should vote for the UPND in the forthcoming elections.
The Head of State said the UPND government has achieved significant progress in just four years and should be allowed to build on those gains.
Drawing a comparison with the opposition, Hichilema said people do not return to the graveyard expecting the dead to come back to life.
“When a person dies, you take them to the graveyard and bury them. Can they come back? No. They [opposition] should remain in the graveyard. They should just be where they belong, that is the graveyard. Don’t go back there. As the Bembas say, akabwelelo kalalya,” he said.
Hichilema reiterated that his administration has delivered on its promises and appealed to the electorate to renew the UPND’s mandate.
“We’ve done a lot of work. We need to continue with the UPND government. The UPND has performed very well in four years and ten months,” he said.
The President also cautioned voters against supporting independent candidates, claiming that they ultimately serve the interests of the opposition.
Hichilema repeated his warning to the electorate against voting for independent candidates, saying even a single vote could cost him the Presidency.
