PROPOSED ELECTORAL PROCESS (Amendment) BILL NO. 30 OF 2021 ON ACCESS TO PRISONS OR CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES: NO PLACE FOR THE MEDIA!

0

PROPOSED ELECTORAL PROCESS (Amendment) BILL NO. 30 OF 2021 ON ACCESS TO PRISONS OR CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES: NO PLACE FOR THE MEDIA!

It is clear that the forthcoming General Election will be characterised by media or information black outs and selective access to polling stations and campaign modalities.

The new proposed laws such as Electoral Process Amendment Bill No 30 and Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Bill No. 2 of 2021, among others are basically aimed at gagging the role of the media in election such as informing and educating the public.

In addition, these proposed laws also aim at suppressing freedom of and access to electoral information during elections which is not only against the Constitution but Banjul Africa Commission’s Guidelines on Access to information and Elections in Africa.

Amendment 4 of the proposed Electoral Process Bill 30 proposes access to prison or correctional facilities to the electoral commission of Zambia, accredited monitors, observers and polling agents, candidates and members of the public for specific tasks or reasons.

The Bill 30 does not make mention of access by the media and any party official in the absence of the candidate which implies that this category will not be allowed near the prisons during elections.

This conditioned and selective access to prisons for purposes of election is what must be of concern to stakeholders such as the political parties, media and CSOs.

As alluded above, the proposed Bill 30 does not even mention any access to these facilities by the media and does not make room for voter and civic education by CSOs or and other organisations, may only ECZ in its routine of conducting electoral processes.

The new section 24B in the proposed Bill 30 states: “An officer in Charge of a prison shall grant access to a prison to the following;

a) the commission for the purposes of conducting electoral processes;

b) a candidate in an election for the purposes of distributing campaign materials in a prescribed manner;

c) an accredited polling agent, observer or monitor for the puporse of observing or monitoring an election; and

d) member of the public for the purpose of voting.

When one analyses this provision, one comes to the conclusion that the drafters of this proposed law are limited in understanding the electoral process.

They have limit the electoral process in prisons to an event which is the day of election and access to the prisons or correctional facilities only on the election day with specified persons and institutions to enjoy that access.

The provision also creates a two-tier voters type those who will participate at the newly created prison polling stations who are free and well-informed (enlightened) of the candidates-the community and prison officers and the caged and with limited access to electoral related information except posters of candidates given to them by the prison officers without explanation-the prisoners.

Let us be alert and advocate for inclusive laws and laws that promote effective media participation in the electoral process for the sake of promoting transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

The rate at which government and electoral institutions want to obliterate the media from covering electoral related issues in the electoral process and churn out electoral information to the public for public consumption is very worrying.

PF FOOLING ZAMBIANS…govt has assumed a deceptive ‘hardworking’ stance – Sejani

0

ACKSON Sejani says there is a fake impression being created that “crooks” in the PF government are delivering to people’s expectations, when in fact not.

He asks if people are merely being fooled by the crooked PF government.

Sejani once served as a local government minister in the Frederick Chiluba’s government.

He told The Mast that ahead of the August elections, the government has assumed a deceptive hardworking stance.

Sejani said on top of its fake activities, those in the government were treating ordinary Zambians to an unprecedented outbreak of cash that was being splashed out to anyone who cares.

“Where is this money coming from? I don’t think this economy has produced such mountains of cash that are being displayed by PF officials,” he said. “Somebody must have printed money after chasing that respected Bank of Zambia governor.”

He wondered if the current: “government of crooks” was taking citizens for a ride, just as they have done during past elections?

“Are we being fooled again? Just because this is 2021, we are beginning to see a flurry of activities on several fronts in order to give an impression that the government is working finally,” Sejani noted. “But we should know why these things are happening now. We should know why suddenly there is no load-shedding when we have endured this problem for the last four years.”

Sejani is shocked that “miraculously, load-shedding has disappeared”

“But has it really disappeared or it will come back on 13th August, should these crooks win elections? I leave this to Zambians to think about,” he noted. “After destroying and turning our universities into disasters through their misguided policies of withdrawing meal allowances, we are now seeing the DMMU (Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit) shipping relief mealie meal to our universities in 2021.”

Sejani wondered whether or not ongoing relief would still be flowing after the elections, should the PF “miraculously win.”

“I leave this matter to our intellectuals in these universities to ponder,” Sejani said.

He observed that Zambia’s economy was sick and was in intensive care.

Sejani pointed out that President Edgar Lungu and his PF government could hide behind a self-painted rose picture of things in the country.

“He can go on and laugh at Zambians who are saying things are bad in Zambia but the effects of his failure to manage the economy will manifest themselves in various forms such as the high prices of goods and services we are now witnessing,” Sejani explained. “I don’t know whether Mr Lungu is still able to laugh now when he sees the prices of mealie meal, cooking oil, kapenta, cement, bread and other necessities.”

He stressed that: “things are very bad in Zambia.”

“As it is said in Nyanja, matenda mungabise koma malilo azamveka (you can mask a disease but certainly not a funeral),” Sejani said.

He also recalled that those in the government destroyed Lusaka’s City Market in July 2017 but that they were now attending to the facility in 2021.

“I leave it to our mothers in the market to think about it,” he said. “In 2016 somebody promised cheap oil after coming back from Saudi Arabia and the nation has been waiting for this cheap oil ever since. In 2021 the Minister of Energy is able to tell Zambians that the cheap oil deal is not yet dead, it is still active and so Zambians must trust PF because cheap oil will still come.”

Sejani continued, saying the nation must wait for the re-opening of Kabwe’s Mulungushi Textiles soon.

“The list can go on and on, of fake activities [which are] designed to fool Zambians that their government is working,” he said.

He also indicated that everybody knew the adverse effects of printing money which was not backed by production in the economy.

“We were taught early on in elementary civics that inflation is caused by too much money chasing too few goods,” explained Sejani. “Somebody must tell our humble President that this is how prices end up going high. It is not witchcraft and it is not sabotage! But it is caused by mismanagement of some fundamentals.”

Lusaka PF fears courts may rule against Lungu eligibility

0

By Ernest Chanda

THE PF in Lusaka fear the country may go the Malawi way with regards to the eligibility of President Edgar Lungu who the current constitution does not allow to recontest having held office twice.

In Malawi, the courts overturned an election and ordered fresh polls that were won by the opposition.

PF has accused the opposition of assembling a team of what he termed expensive lawyers to petition President Lungu’s eligibility after filing his nomination papers for the August 12 general election.

Addressing journalists on Friday morning at his office, Lusaka Province PF chairman Paul Moonga also accused the opposition of planning to pay Constitutional Court judges to rule in their favour.

He said according to PF intelligence reports, the opposition had already compiled their petition, just waiting to file when the time comes.

“By last year October, they (opposition) put a consortium of lawyers together waiting to go and petition the eligibility of our president once he files his nomination. May be, you have misunderstood me,” he said. “Our colleagues, the opposition political parties, with the alliance, with our whole intelligence report we have ourselves as a province and the whole entire country; instead of spending their time and energy mobilising their party members who would be their voters, they’re busy mobilising the most expensive lawyers who can go to court after we’ve filed our nomination [for] 12th of August. They’re putting up, the following day they’ll be in the courts of law fighting our president [that] he’s not eligible to stand; what a shame!”

Moonga, who constantly referred to the Malawian 2019 presidential election that was nullified in favour of the opposition, warned judges that the PF was watching them.

He further questioned the credibility of the Malawian judiciary.

“With those lessons from Malawi which I think the opposition are leaning on, we may go the Malawi way. They may try to buy some, but not all judges can be the same. Believing they may buy a few judges to nullify the credibility of our candidate, that’s their focus,” Moonga added. “So, [instead of putting] on money to grow the party, they’re busy putting on money to see whom they can corrupt; a judge to nullify our president. We are very much alive, we’re aware and we are watching all the judges in Zambia. Kindly, don’t fall prey to these monsters who have no known manifesto for this country; don’t fall prey to these monsters who have no agenda for Zambia, whose agenda is simply to become President of Zambia at any cost. This, members of the press, my office, has this message.’’

He however advised the opposition that they still have time to recruit more members.

“I’m also aware and very much alive, as much [as] I trust our judiciary which really are men above board, but I’m also aware of the situation that has been in Malawi. In Malawi [there] is a simple majority. The opposition, how they behave, the opposition in Malawi, I don’t understand,” said Moonga. “How the judiciary in Malawi can nullify an elected government and yet the Constitution does not allow…allows for a simple majority. For members of the opposition, they have still a lot of time to go in the field and find votes, instead of wasting money to pay lawyers…. But come elections, the Zambian people know that we are winning elections.”

HH Should Recognize His Inner Greediness Otherwise He Will Never Rule Zambia – Marvin Chanda Mberi

0

By Marvin Chanda Mberi

Ever since the collapse of the UPND marriage of convenience with the National Democratic Congress came to pass, a number of commentators and politicians have expressed their thoughts on the subject.

The views seem to suggest that the barely three year marriage of convenience between 5 time losing Presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema and Chishimba Kambwili has its tenure short-lived because the former did not want to give and take for the sustaining of the relationship.

Even the likes of great statesmen such as Sikota Wina have stepped in to offer parental guidance based on their wealthy of political experience spanning for the stretch of six decades.

According to Mr Wina, the uncompromising decision by UPND to impose their name as the flagship name for the alliance without resorting to any neutral name is selfishness exhibited by Mr Hichilema.

We are in agreement with the thoughts expressed by Mr Wina and certainly there is meetings of the mind, Mr Hichilema is a selfish politician who wants to use other political parties as a tool to be elected President.

Without straying in riddles Mr Hichilema started by using the Mazoka name to become UPND President, then attempted to use the FDD and UNIP under the disguise of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in 2006 but emerged in a distant third position.

In the run up to 2011 elections he attempted to use the Michael Sata led PF as a shortcut to become President but after the collapse of the pact, he came out in a distant third position.

In 2016, he attempted to use the Bemba speaking politicians such as Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, Mulenga Sata, and Miles Sampa among others to dilute his tribal tag but it all failed and he was overwhelmingly rejected in the Bemba speaking region.

Mr Hichilema needs to take time and reflect on the failed alliances where he has evidently been exposed as a political opportunist who wants to ride at the hard earned good repute of others.

As regards the events happening in the defunct alliances, it all points at his greediness and his lack of respect for diversity.

For instance, out of 5 political parties that have endured his bullying in the alliance, how did he override the importance of other political parties and came up with the name “UPND” as the sole collective identity of the alliance?

This is gross disrespect for diversity and it ought not to have a place in a politically diverse society.

The apparent greediness and lack of appreciation for diversity is a worry of every Zambian citizen because the Government operates in diversity.

Even the PF as the ruling party appreciates diversity.

It is because of appreciating diversity that members of other political parties have earned themselves positions in Government.

We wish to remind the readers that in 2019, the PF in Parliament appreciated the motions moved by UPND including the outspoken Mazabuka Member of Parliament Honourable Garry Nkombo.

It has not trivialized the importance of other political players on account of divergence of thought.

We therefore expect Mr Hichilema to recognize that UPND does not have the monopoly of ideas that are beneficial to the nation.

His chances to become President Lies in his ability to introspect on his documented greediness and appreciate the importance of others.

Mr Hichilema should avoid being in perpetual denial of his apparent greediness and reflect on his mistakes

HH’s IMF route is not only impractical but shallow and simplistic – Sean Tembo

ABOUT THE IMF: MISCONCEPTIONS VERSUS REALITY

By Sean Tembo – PeP President

1. There are a lot of misconceptions and sometimes just plain lies that have been peddled about the breadth and width on an International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme and what it would mean if Zambia was to be placed on such a programme. But today l wish to address the specific untruth that has been peddled by the UPND President Mr Hakainde Hichilema that if he became President of Zambia, his economic turnaround model would hinge on putting the country on an IMF programme thereby accessing a cheap IMF loan which he would then use to pay off our existing expensive commercial loans such as Eurobond thereby reducing our repayment obligations and freeing up financial resources which would be used for other social causes such health and education. Such a simplistic view is impractical and untenable for reasons that l will give below. But before someone jumps to the usual punchline that l am attacking a fellow opposition, l want to make it categorically clear that there is nothing wrong about having a debate on how best to develop our country, no matter how heated such a debate might get. It is in the interests of the citizens of this nation that we have a viable economic turnaround plan, one that is tenable and sustainable.

2. Before l go into the details of why HH’s IMF route is not only impractical but shallow and simplistic, allow me to use just a paragraph explaining the economic turnaround plan for my political party; the Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP). As PeP, our diagnosis of Zambia’s economic quagmire is not that we lack resources, no. But rather that half of our resources are wasted through incompetent management of national affairs by Government while another 40% is outrightly stolen thereby leaving only about 10% for use by the citizens of this country. In other words, the bucket is leaking. And when the bucket is leaking, the solution cannot be to put more water in it. To the contrary, the solution lies in mending the bucket. UPND’s and HH’s idea of getting an IMF loan amounts to putting more water in a leaking bucket. And that is the reason why l am fundamentally opposed to it. Our proposed idea for turning around this country’s economy is to mend the bucket by taking two actions; firstly to immediately stop the theft of public funds which can be achieved immediately within a year, and secondly to stop wastage of public funds through incompetence which is a gradual endeavor that we can achieve within 3 to 5 years. These two approaches have been very clearly outlined in the PeP manifesto ever since we formed the party in 2016. When we talk about theft of public funds, there are two aspects to it; there is theft of already declared income through exaggerated prices of tenders which is a small part of the theft, and then there is theft of undeclared tax and non-tax revenue which is the larger part of the theft that is usually never talked about. A very small proportion of the money that GRZ generates actually reaches the treasury and most of it is diverted into individuals pockets. Our estimates are that these revenue leakages amount to between 60% to 80% of the total actual revenue generated by GRZ. That is why you will find most senior Government officials coming from very big unexplained mansions in New Kasama to go and work in usually unsanitary government offices. The Government is poor while the people who work for it are rich. If this is genuinely fixed, something that we hope to do within a year, it would free up huge financial resources that can then be used to not only meet and payoff our loan obligations but also address other social needs of the nation such as health and education. In the medium to long term, once we also address the issue of incompetence by ensuring that all decision makers are employed on merit and not patronage, we will have sound economic policies coming from Government which will set the platform for private sector driven economic development. That my solution. That is the PeP solution. To mend the leaking bucket and not to just pour in more juice that would come from an IMF loan.

3. We can now talk about the lie on which HH’s economic turnaround plan for Zambia is premised. That he will borrow cheap IMF money and use it to clear our existing external debt such as the Eurobond. Before we get into the details of that, allow me to first explain what the IMF is and what it is not. The International Monetary Fund is an initiative of the United Nations (UN) and it is governed by what is referred to as Articles of Agreement which were adopted by its initial 29 members on 22nd July 1944 in a small city called Breton Woods in the state of New Hempshire in the United States of America. Over the years, these articles of agreement have been ratified by several other countries including Zambia. However, the articles of agreement only provide the general guide of how the IMF operates, the actual so-called nitty gritties are outlined in the IMF By Laws, Rules and Regulations. Now, it is these IMF By Laws which, in layman’s language, preclude the Fund from giving financial support to a member for purposes of refinancing that member’s existing loan facility and/or other financial obligation or for purposes of guaranteeing a future loan facility or the Fund’s financial support being used as collateral for an existing or future loan facility. Now, what am not sure about is whether HH knows this or he doesn’t. If he did, then he has been deliberately misleading Zambians by insinuating that his potential Government will get a cheap IMF loan and use the proceeds to liquidate existing expensive loans such as the Eurobond. If he did not know that the proceeds of an IMF loan cannot be used to re-finance another loan, then he is grossly incompetent.

4. Apart from the IMF By Laws, Rules and Regulations prohibiting the use of IMF loan proceeds to refinance a commercial or sovereign loan, once the Fund puts you on a programme, they will only give you money to help you with recurrent expenditure support and the amount is assessed based on your needs after you implement some of the Fund’s Programmes and achieve certain specific milestones such as trimming down the size of the civil service, getting rid of unprofitable parastatals etc. But that amount is unlikely to be much and it does not come as a lump-sum but is disbursed in small installments that are dependent on attainment of specific milestones that the IMF would have set for you in their programme. In Zambia’s case, it is extremely unlikely that we would access more than US$3 billion in total. Now, as at 31st December 2020, Zambia’s total external debt was about US$12 billion. The US$3 billion IMF loan would by far not be enough to refinance our country’s external debt.

5. The other point to note is that between our country’s external debt (US$ 12 billion) and domestic debt (K80 billion), it is actually the domestic debt that causes serious damage to our economy because it crowds out the private sector and drives up lending rates. Ever wondered why our bank lending rates have averaged 45% even when inflation was single digit? Well, it is because the Government through the Bank of Zambia is willing to borrow from the market at around 29% through Treasury Bills and Government Bonds. So if the risk-free rate is 29%, then how much do you think the bank would be willing to lend to your business? 45 percent or above is the answer. And for as long as enterprises in the private sector cannot access affordable loan, then forget about economic growth. In the few occasions that you see economic activities on the ground, it is by foreigners who come to Zambia with their own money while many brilliant Zambians go to the grave with their brilliant ideas that could not be funded due to the high cost of borrowing from financial institutions. On the other hand, external debt is money that you get from other countries and bring to Zambia and does not undermine the local economy in any way. If anything, it benefits the local economy. Therefore, HH’s preoccupation with external debt is misplaced and speaks volumes about his ability to understand the way the economy functions, let alone manage it. There are a lot of textbook economists out there and l have always argued that HH is one of them, based on the soundness or lack thereof of his economic policy proposals. But the quagmire that we face as Zambians is that our economy is so terminally ill due to the rampant and perpetual theft of public funds as well as inherent incompetence that there will only be one shot available to save it and turn it around. The person that takes that one shot better know exactly what they are doing. HH is evidently not that person.

MANIPULATING ELECTIONS in ZAMBIA

0

By Pamela Bwembya

MANIPULATING ELECTIONS in ZAMBIA

When two people have 21 items to share, grabbing one item from one of them and giving it to the other more than doubles the difference between them.

If in 2016, UPND strongholds had 10 voters and PF strongholds had 11 voters , reducing UPND’s number by 1 leaves them with 9 and increasing PF’s number by 1 gives PF 12 voters. The difference moves from 1 to 3.

Chances of physically storming polling stations to manipulate ballots will be slim in the next elections so a built-in reduction in UPND votes is required for a repeated result, assuming voters will again vote like they did in 2016.

I am of the view that the observed 100,878 reduction in voters in UPND strongholds is meant to counter ballot manipulation that created the approximately 100,000 difference in favor of ECL.

Such an approach is obviously flawed, and that necessitates a physical increase of registered voters in perceived PF strongholds. This is how the skewed NRC issuance and voter registration came in handy.

While UPND areas recorded a 100,878 reduction in registered voters, PF strongholds posted a 268,032 increase. This widens the gap between the two major parties to 368,910.

This is precisely what ECZ decided to do during the voter registration exercise. The observed belief in a straight PF victory in PF circles is based on the fact that the voter register has been manipulated to widen the gap between UPND areas and PF areas in favor of PF.

What are not factored in are the votes that will go to Kalaba’s DP, M’membe’s SPZ, Kaunda’s UNIP, Mutati’s MDC, Mumba’s MMD, Nawakwi’s FDD, Chishala’s HP, Nyirenda’s NAREP, BANDA’s PAC, Chanda’s UPPZ, Chishimba’s UPP, and if NDC survives Kambwili’s NDC. The fact is that the majority of citizens are not happy with how Edgar Lungu’s PF has made us poorer and taken away most of our liberties.

Looking at the names of the leaders of the parties in the above list bares one fact; THE NORTHERN AND EASTERN REGIONS OF ZAMBIA have an insatiable appetite to rule our country. Zambians must rise above tribal politics and rally behind proven consistent leadership. The 2011 UPND-PF alliance failed because UPND insisted on putting policies above positions. The UPND-NDC alliance is also threatened by insistence on a name and positions and not policies or ideologies.156213587_1343860359322197_4725991973092409786_n

I challenge readers to tell the nations how UPND policies have changed over the years.

PF has given power to bodybuilders in line with its “PAMAKA” slogan and clenched fist symbol. How strong or physically intimidating one is has become the yardstick for determining which youths should receive which contracts and which ones should control public markets and bus stations. National resources have become the preserve of violent gun-totting youths who are untouchable even when they are responsible for the deaths of more than 50 citizens.

We can put a stop to this by allowing fellow citizens who value hard work, education, and integrity to take up leadership positions in our beautiful country. HH and those alliance partner leaders are walking “freely” among us (though at times restricted by the Public Order Act and presidential prerogatives) because the state has failed to find prosecutable cases that would dent their integrity and put them away. If any among them have been successfully prosecuted it should be because such persons are not fit to lead this country.

ECZ has tried its best to determine who rules us forever, but WE THE PEOPLE of ZAMBIA can and must make the difference, because we have the right to make our lives better again.

1. We have been paying all sorts of taxes
2. Huge sums have been borrowed in our name
3. The state has failed to settle even interest on our debts
4. The number of unemployed but trained citizens is increasing
5. The cost of living is increasing at a frightening rate
6. The roads that were built with borrowed money now require repairs
7. Beautiful hospitals and clinics have no drugs
8. Ministries are underfunded
9. Government is more concerned about watching us and listening to our conversations for strange reasons
10. Our institutions of governance are being paid for nothing

…YET members of the executive and their supporters are getting richer. Don’t we really know where our money has been going?

WE JUST HAVE TO DO THE RIGHT THING

Opposition seeking to bribe ConCourt judges who can disqualify Lungu – Paul Moonga

By Ernest Chanda

PF has accused the opposition of assembling a team of what he termed expensive lawyers to petition President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility after filing his nomination papers for the August 12 general election.

Addressing journalists on Friday morning at his office, Lusaka Province PF chairman Paul Moonga also accused the opposition of planning to pay Constitutional Court judges to rule in their favour.

Police ‘capture’, interrogate Lusaka journalists in Mazabuka for covering ‘trendy’ Hatembos

0

By Chambwa Moonga

THREE Lusaka-based journalists were last evening interrogated by police officers after covering non-governmental organisations which addressed issues surrounding the Hatembo family and the abduction, by gunmen, of a UPND member Tom Silwiindi in Choma.

The gunmen cruelly ‘arrested’ Silwiindi on Saturday at his home.

A police source tipped The Mast this afternoon that the journalists – Andrew Mwansa (Muvi TV), Coswell Hantuba (Hot FM) and Amos Lungu (CAMNET TV), together with their driver, were intercepted in Mazabuka town by plain-clothed police officers and were interrogated for over two hours.

According to the source’s narration, the uncompromising officers were led by a commissioner (name withheld) from Lusaka.

The journalists had their gadgets confiscated as police officers took statements regarding the media briefing held in Choma, under the auspices of Zitukule Consortium.

“Yes guys, can we please have your identification cards. We want to prove that you are truly Zambians,” an officer was heard telling the journalists.

“We have been having situations where foreigners claim to be Zambians when in fact not.”

The police officers later led the journalists to a nearby tent where they were interviewed.

“Kindly sit here. Feel free; we just want to have a chat with you. Kindly cooperate. All we need is information from you,” they said.

“Where do you work from? And when did you go to Choma? Who invited you there? Are there no media houses in Choma who could have covered that event?”

After questioning the journalist for over 30 minutes, the team leader at this point asked the other officers to record statements from the trio.

“Kindly tell us all you know about your trip. Who organised the trip? Where were you picked from? Who picked you up? How many people did you find in the car when being picked up?”

At this point, the officers were told that the media briefing was organised by Zitukule Consortium executive director Nicholas Phiri.

The questions from the officers continued.

“Where is Nicholas? What part of Choma is he? they asked.

After a lengthy interrogation, the team leader then elaborated that they were police officers from police force headquarters in Lusaka.

“We are police from police force headquarters. We are here because someone tipped us that you were in Choma to cover the Hatembos. The area of interest to us is that this name has been in the media for a over a month now and we are interested to get to the root of what is happening,” he explained.
“So, thank you very much for your cooperation. Don’t be scared; we are not here to harm you. In due course, we are going to call you, if need be.”

The three journalists and the driver were then allowed to leave Mazabuka around midnight, over two hours of a delay.

PF’s ‘cash and carry’ politics

0

It is said an armed man with nothing in his head is extremely dangerous.

For some time now, the PF of Edgar Lungu has been ‘empowering’ its youths into powerful cadres who are have started behaving like pests. They have not only become powerful, but also a threat and a nuisance to both PF leaders – their tutors for mischief – and innocent citizens.

Today Dora Siliya is saying she has reported to police an insinuation that she has given bricks of money to her agents for them to discredit or injure her opponents. A video is circulating on social media platforms where an unidentified male person, clad in a PF branded T-shirt and armed with two fat bundles of K100 notes, is springing on a bed splashed with numerous K100 notes.

The person in the video is heard warning a ‘Jay Jay’ to stop troubling Siliya because she has shared that huge amount of money.

Emmanuel ‘Jay Jay’ Banda is the person who seeks to unseat Siliya as Petauke Central PF member of parliament.

But the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services says the video is “absolutely fake.”

“I’m extremely disappointed with some people who are aiming at tarnishing my name and the image of government by circulating fake videos that purport me to have given people money to discredit or injure people. That video is absolutely fake and it must be treated with the disgust and condemnation that it deserves. I have since reported the matter to the IG (Inspector General of Police) and it is my trust that the police will expeditiously address this matter,” says Dora adding that such videos are the very reason that the government wants to pass into law the cyber-security and cyber-crime Bill No. 2 of 2021 in Parliament. “If anyone can decide that they are going to take a video and allege untruths, then who is going to be safe? Not our children, not women [and] not anyone in society! This is why government has been very adamant about the fact the citizens would like a cyber space in which they operate where they feel safe. I have no idea who the person in the video is. I have given no-one money to injure or discredit anyone. This is why I have reported the matter to the police. I’m hoping that the IG and investigative wings will address this matter and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. People need to learn that the power [of the Internet] that they have in their hands should be used positively, and not to perpetrate crimes.”

Dora may be innocent but who knows the truth? PF!

Dora herself is not clean when it comes to playing dirty politics, going by her recent statements while in Eastern Province.

They say when you open your arms to change, don’t give up your values.

It is very difficult to sympathise with Dora and most PF ministers and members of parliament! They have scorched the political field and poisoned our citizens with a tribal mantra and the now infamous regimen of dishing out money. The amounts of money being publicly flaunted by leaders and supporters of the ruling Patriotic Front are certainly unprecedented in the history of this country. One could never have seen this display of cash – from unknown and unexplained sources – during the tenures of Dr Kenneth Kaunda or Levy Mwanawasa. And even though we saw displays of extravagance under Rupiah Banda and the MMD, they never reached the levels we are seeing today. If corruption was a toddler during the time of MMD, it is now a fully grown adult under the PF.

It takes a certain type of leader and leadership to be tolerant of such unethical and suspicious behaviour. This is the “ubomba mwibala alya mwibala” culture that sadly is part of Edgar’s legacy. It is a culture where a President allows his ministers to illegally stay in office after parliament was dissolved, illegally collecting salaries and allowances drawn from the taxpayer. This is a culture where when the Constitutional Court orders that the ministers repay that money, the ruling PF is quickly able to find over K4 million to pay for those leaders and refuse to disclose the names of its ‘benefactors’.

We wonder what principles and values they’re inculcating in our nation.

Dora should not pull a quick one by blaming cyber-bullying. This has nothing to do with cyber-bullying or cybercrime but everything to do with the PF politics of violence, hate speech and open corruption.

Ministers go about dishing out money in the name of the Republican President – it’s called empowerment!

Cadres are also doing the same. Social media is awash with PF cadres showing off their overnight wealth – money! Just last month, a Catholic Parish in Ndola received a ‘donation’ of K50,000 from PF Copperbelt chairman Nathan Chanda who clearly stated that it was from President Lungu and the PF secretary general.

This why Ernesto Che Guevara stressed the importance of good examples. Che said, “People feel compelled to do something they do not actually feel like doing, or do not feel the need to do, but are nevertheless moved by the example set by their most outstanding comrades, who everyday perform these tasks with enthusiasm, zeal and joy. Examples, good examples and also bad examples, are very contagious and we must infect people with our good examples; we must influence the conscience of people, we must reach out to the conscience of people…”
PF has infected its rank and file with toxic examples and members are religiously following that ‘ideology’ – the PF’s ‘cash and carry’ politics!

PF Positioning ECZ To Rig The General Elections ~ Banda Sakanya

PF POSITIONING ECZ TO RIG THE GENERAL ELECTIONS ~ Banda Sakanya

ECL’s insatiate for power will plunge this country into turmoil if he does not realise that his epoch to rule is over and ends on 12th August.

His arrogance to threaten concourt judges is a conspicuous indication that he is willing to be a life president like his counterpart Museveni of Uganda.

We have seen lately how he has been dribbling himself with laws to stamp his tyrannical leadership to perpetually remain at the helm of power.

It all began in 2016 when he strategically amended the constitution to suit his desire to continue serving even after the two terms elapsed.

He brought in Bill 10 strategically to repeal artcal 52 that should have given him an easy passage without being petitioned.

He succeeded by manipulating Esau Chulu and Nshindano to make sure the old register was deleted as opposed to what the constitution states that there shall be continuous voter registration.

He has brought in the cyber bill to gag freedom of speech and invasion of privacy and all is being positioned in readiness for this year’s general elections.

Now he wants to bring in a law that will criminalise Parallel Voter Tabulation (PVT)

The evil PF and its leadership is trying by all means to change the laws so that they are advantaged to continue doing wrong. Since it is so apparent that UPND is winning, they want to change article in the Eletoral Act Zambia (ECZ) that no one should announce the election results before ECZ does so.. Parallel Voter Tabulation is there in order to compare the results, and if the other party is delaying so that they manipulate the figures, the other groups should announce. Winter Kabimba knew that Sata was winning because of this system.

There were attempts to manipulate but the margin was too big to rig, and Sata lead PF triumphantly became the winner. Now, some scared fellows who just want to cling to power want to change a law that actually favoured the same PF.

PF is like Satan. Satan did not start as an evil creature he is today, he was a good angel in charge of music, but along the way, he became evil. PF, like Satan, became evil and that’s what PF is today.

Every attempt to change laws should be met with resistance in Parliament like they did to bill 10. Let Zambians decide peacefully as to whom they should entrust. Certainly, Zambians in a right frame of mind will vote for the UPND because they’re are preaching solutions.

Zambians rise up and say enough is enough to this PF evil leadership that wants to manipulate its way through in governance after 12th August.

ECZ is now a tool being positioned by ECL with impunity to manipulate the will of people on 12th August.

Magistrate places PF cadre on defence for assaulting Kalimanshi

By Mwaka Ndawa

PATROTIC Front youth chairperson, Daniel Kalembe, has been found with a case to answer in a matter he is facing charges of assault in the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court.

Lusaka chief resident magistrate Lameck Mwale said there is overwhelming evidence warranting him to place Kalembe on his defense as the state has established a prima facie case against him.

This is in a matter where Kalembe is facing two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Kalembe is on March 12, 2020 alleged to have assaulted self-proclaimed PF ‘national commander’ Innocent Kalimanshi and Nathan Phiri.

During trial,Joseph Kozi, a driver of Kasama member of parliament Kelvin Sampa, told the court that Kalembe did not assault Kalimanshi and Phiri claiming the two were assaulted by a tall man.

Kozi narrated that on the material day Sampa asked him to accompany him to the freedom statue where the youth day celebrations were held and he was told to drive a van belonging to the party.

Kozi said when he reached at the freedom statue, he parked the van and stood a metre away from the vehicle so that he could listen to President Edgar Lungu’s speech.

He said a group of youths, among them Kalimanshi and Phiri, sat at the back of the van.

Kozi told magistrate Mwale that he saw another group of youths walking towards the van whilst chanting songs inciting violence to which he decided to go and sit in the vehicle because they did not mean well

He claimed that he saw a tall man directing Kalimanshi’s group to leave the premise but they refused to heed to his directive and they told the said man that they would rather die at his hands than leave the premise.

Kozi said confusion characterised the area where the youths had gathered and many people were assaulted, including Kalimanshi and Phiri

He told the court that the assault victims sought medical attention at the University Teaching Hospital after obtaining police reports at Lusaka Central Police Station.

Kozi claimed that he did not see Kalembe assault Kalimanshi neither was the latter’s assailant before court.

Earlier, Kozi explained that he could not avail himself before court to testify in the matter last year when he was summoned because Kalimashi and Phiri wanted him to tell the court what he did not witness, and allege that Kalembe assaulted them.

And Kalembe’s arresting officer detective chief inspector Mutakatala Mwiya said he arrested Kalembe for assault following a report by Kalimanshi and others that they were lynched by him.

Kalembe will open his defence on April 7, 2021.

IT’S A WASTE OF TIME TRYING TO CHALLENGE PRESIDENT LUNGU’S ELIGIBILITY TO CONTEST THE AUGUST 12 ELECTIONS-PAUL MOONGA

… as he says the ruling party is aware of the desperate maneuvers by the opposition to buy some judges to nullify President Lungu’s eligibility

The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has advised the opposition UPND and it’s alliance partners to concentrate on selling their party ahead of the August 12 polls instead of wasting their time trying to challenge President Lungu’ eligibility to contest the presidential election.

Speaking at the media briefing in Lusaka today, PF Lusaka provincial Chairman Paul Moonga disclosed that the ruling party has information that the opposition has engaged a consortium of both local and international lawyers to challenge president Lungu’s eligibility.

Mr. Moonga charged that this is an indication that the opposition are aware that the PF under president Lungu will carry the day come August 12 hence their maneuvers to frustrate the PF.

He said it is unfortunate that the opposition has spent five years of having squabbles with the ruling party instead of telling Zambians what they will do for the country if voted into office.

” We are aware that by last year October, the opposition put together a consortium of lawyers waiting to go and petition the president once he files in his nomination papers,” he said.

The Lusaka Province PF Chairman also stated that the ruling party is also aware that the opposition is trying to buy some judges to nullify the eligibility of president Lungu.

Mr. Moonga has since warned that the PF is watching these maneuvers by the opposition and has since appealed to all the judges not to fall prey to plans by the opposition who he said have no plan for the country.

He has since challenged the opposition to concentrate on selling their Manifesto to Zambians instead of wasting time and resources trying to block president Lungu from contesting the August 12 elections.

And Mr. Moonga has charged that come August 12, 2021 President Lungu will carry the day as the country has seen unprecedented development under his leadership.

Meanwhile, Mr. Moonga has called for peaceful campaigns ahead of the general elections.

He said the party leadership in Lusaka will ensure that peace prevails in the run up to the August polls and has urged youths from the party to report to the police when provoked by the opposition.

And Lusaka Province PF deputy youth chairperson Kelvin Kaunda has assured the party leadership that he will ensure that youths conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner.

Victimising Malanji Over His Wealth Will Discourage Businessmen From Joining Politics, Stop It – Marvin Chanda Mberi

VICTIMISING MALANJI OVER HIS WEALTH WILL DISCOURAGE BUSINESSMEN FROM JOINING POLITICS, STOP IT

By Marvin Chanda Mberi

There has been petty generalization and the belief that those aligned to the politically exposed businesspersons or those holding public office cannot legitimately earn anything without underhand means.

They are judged based on salaries they earn.

This perception has instead turned into persecution and victimization of the hardworking legitimate businessmen from creating jobs that will employ Zambians.

It should be appreciated that those holding public office had a life before politics and it is unfair to limit the investments beyond the emoluments they are given in their course of service in public office.

It should be appreciated that to most patriots, politics is not a career but a selfless service to the Zambian people.

Of course Zambians cannot know every detail about those holding public office on what they owned before because they were not in limelight.

While it is correct to say that those holding public office must be accountable, this should be done through a process that is fair.

It is therefore victimization to drag everyone holding public office to non-existent and unfounded allegations of illicit financial deals.

As a matter of fact, the proceeds that can be used to procure an aircraft are traceable and if there was anything wrong the law enforcement agencies would have long before detected and exposed it.

We are in a society where there are inter linkages in the flow of financial information.

It is suprising that such speculations can originate from discredited online platforms such as Koswe yet they can’t invoke their investigative journalism and bring documentary evidence of the illicit financial flows, if any.

In a civilized society, the businesspersons who have legitimately earned their wealthy are a reservoir of business intellect which is imbued in them.

The emerging entrepreneurs and all those mudslinging the people making an honest living should instead seek audience with them to appreciate how they rose from the life of straw to commanding influence in the business fraternity.

Moreover, we are moving toward an industrialized Zambia were the local businesses should be the spine of the economy.

With the enabling environment the Patriotic Front Government led by President Edgar Chagwa Lungu will soon start yielding results and more innovative Zambians beyond holding public office will soon thrive.

As regards Zambian foreign policy, Zambia is transitioning from political to economic diplomacy.

This will lead to the creative Zambians to seek more opportunities and expand our export base to foreign countries.

The victimization of businessmen such as Foreign Affairs Minister Honourable Joe Malanji is likely to intimidate businessmen who an aspiring to join politics.

This is likely to deprive the nation the service of selfless aspiring candidates from participating in mainstream politics.

We challenge why institutions such as Financial Intelligence Centre, Anti-Corruption Commission and others did not raise red flag way before the issue came in public if there was anything fish about the deal.

This clearly shows that the concerns by certain sections of the public maybe in bad faith.

This is a wild goose chase and sheer victimization of public servants who privately ran businesses way before they aspired to hold public office.

Socialist Party says the UPND alliance’s state of confusion is the true reflection of the current deficit in the zambian political leadership

Socialist Party says the UPND alliance’s state of confusion is the true reflection of the current deficit in the zambian political leadership

The confusion in NDC over an alliance with UPND should not be taken lightly as it is a true reflection of the current deficit in the zambian political leadership. It shows how divided the nation is in terms of unity. There is need for selfless leaders that would not put their own interest but that of the suffering masses of the people. It is this same capitalist tendencies that has made our country lag behind in terms of development.

Greedy, individualism has been the standard of the current crop of leaders.we feel sorry for Hon chishala the current Roan Mp ,a young man who is now entangled between two old finished politicians instead of concentrating on bring the much needed development in this forsaken constituency.

There is need for system change and young people like Chishala should have a revolutionary eye and avoid political games, Roan needs a leader with the heart for the people.

See the once Garden city of luanshya, no Roads, no infrastructure and no hope for the women and youths. We as a socialist party have no time politicking but rather in a hurry to bring about the much needed development in Roan.

The typical example is that of the bridge at section one,the people need that bridge as it is a link to the CBD we will build the bridge as soon as voted into power we will also look at the plight of our youths to ensure they have an equal share in the black mountain that has been given to a foreign contractor, the marketeers are in constant debt because of the loans we will redeem them by empowering them with stress free evolving funds and a pick up at each market to help them in their activities as they order their goods.why should an mp be preoccupied with internal politics at the expense of the poor masses .

The absence of ideological conscious and patriotism has given room to a very corrupt and shameful breed of political leaders who are full of greedineses, individualism, consumerism, competition which has given birth to high porvety levels, ignorance, starvation and high death rate in our country.

As aspiring MP for roan I’m confident enough that with the socialist party and my myself as an mp the people of roan will be liberated. Luanshya in general has been neglected for so long and it is slwoly becoming a ghost city. I will work closely with the people of Roan in order to bring about social and economic projects that will benefit the whole constituency. Dr Fred M’membe and the socialist party will creat jobs centred on three pillars such such as Education, health and peasant agriculture.

HE DROVE ME WELL AND I STRONGLY BELIEVE HE IS NOT UNDERAGE – PRECIOUS TEYA

26-year-old Precious Teya from Chitungwiza in Zimbabwe, who was arrested last week for reportedly sleeping with a 13-year-old boy has challenged the minor’s age in court and also insisted that she had no way of telling that the juvenile was a minor.

Teya who was arraigned on charges of indecent assault, argued that she had no way of knowing that her alleged victim who she met on an adult dating site was only 13-years-old due to his stature and his conduct.157102053_2910477489229589_6758004099099301037_n

Her lawyer, Moses Nyatsoma argued that the prosecution failed to provide conclusive proof of the boy’s age. According to Nyatsoma, the prosecution has failed to provide the defence with the boy’s birth certificate proving his age, despite being asked to do so.
Zimlive quoted the lawyer as saying;

“We have a child who is in school and has a secret phone which nobody knows about. He lured the girl, of course, a 26-year-old, for sex. The child is purported to be 13 but we have not seen any evidence to prove that.157244992_2910477602562911_1751013424481598942_n

“We have requested his birth certificate but we have not been furnished with the same to date. So as far as the age of the complainant is concerned, we are not sure.”
Teya’s lawyer further argued that his client thought that she had been hired by an adult because of the juvenile’s stature. He stated that the minor’s actions in procuring Precious’ services as well as his conduct once she was on-site are not consistent with those of a 13-year-old.
Nyatsoma added;
“If you look at the stature of the child, his height, the way he is built, you cannot tell by merely looking at him that he is 13 and there was no way my client could suspect he was a minor.157082302_2910477382562933_551113832955409786_n

“If you also look at his own behaviour of going on a dating site, getting a sex worker, paying for the taxi, waiting by the gate, entertaining the sex worker inside the house, and whatever else that transpired… it is not consistent with a 13-year-old. In the absence of proof, we will not accept his age.”

It was further learnt that Precious Teya’s appeal against denial of bail by a magistrate will be heard by High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi.

PF abusing Bembas as a tool for tribalism – Luonde

0

FATHER Richard Luonde has expressed anger that PF is using the northern part of Zambia as a tool for promoting tribalism against other citizens.

The NDC national chairperson says President Edgar Lungu and his officials have been touring the northern part of the country for the sole purpose of turning the region against others.

He noted that ever since the Head of State started campaigning during by-elections, tribal language has never lacked in his mouth.

“My loving and honest appeal to the people of Zambia especially those from Luapula, Northern and Muchinga provinces is that do not allow this evil regime to turn you against your fellow citizens. These are wicked people who have had no idea about running a country, so the easiest weapon they had been using is tribalism,” Fr Luonde, a native of Luapula Province said. “We are the people targeted by this tribalist and corrupt PF regime to turn against our fellow citizens, especially those from Southern Province. They are using our language, Bemba, to despise other Zambians. Please, I beg you my family, reject this evil scheme from PF. Embrace every part of the country as your people as well. We are one country that should not be allowed to disintegrate because of President Lungu’s selfishness.”

He said it was unfortunate that some traditional leaders from the northern part of the country had joined into what he termed nonsensical acts and speeches.

“For example, there is one eminent traditional leader in the northern part of this country whose language is ever tribal. This leader is ever demeaning other tribes, especially those outside Luapula, Northern and Muchinga. No wonder PF have teamed with this traditional leader to campaign for them through some disguised civil society,” Fr Luonde added. “This is very shameful for a traditional leader worth their salt. We are one as a people living in Zambia and our tribe is Zambia. From the time we got our independence on the 24th of October 1964 we ceased to be called by our regional identities. Instead, we became Zambians, hence the need to uphold the One Zambia One Nation motto. This is a nation which these thieves want to destroy whilst we are watching. We will not allow them.”

He called for a rejection of “this PF evil project by voting them out on 12th August”.

“If not stopped by moving them out of office on the 12th of August 2021 general election, then just know that we shall be doomed to the grave,” he said. “I’ve left out Eastern Province and other provinces for now because these crooks have targeted the northern circuit, the area I come from, as a target for their tribalism stunts which will not work with the birth of the UPND alliance.”

Fr Luonde highlighted various incidents of tribalism perpetuated by President Lungu and his leaders.

He said despite outright tribal sentiments from ministers like Professor Nkandu Luo and Christopher Yaluma, President Lungu has kept quiet.

“The Constitution of this country clearly forbids tribalism and hate speech. To the contrary, this has been a daily menu for the PF, ever since Edgar Lungu took over from Michael Sata. Those of you who have monitored the campaign PF strategies in the northern circuit it has all been about tribe, nothing else,” said Fr Luonde. “Nothing about vision, sale of their manifesto, development and enhancement of human beings through policy, all they dwell on is tribalism. Talk about the Lukashya, Chilubi and Mwansabombwe parliamentary by-elections, the PF campaign anchored more on tribalism than real issues. And now that we have another pending by-election in Kaputa where the incumbent MP, honourable Maxas Ng’onga has died, the nation should expect more display of tribalism from Mr Lungu and his team. This is their only manifesto, nothing else.”

NDC sues Kambwili for impersonation

0

THE Josephs Akafumba NDC faction has sued Chishimba Kambwili for impersonating as NDC president after he relinquished his position as interim president.

The NDC wants an order of injunction stopping Kambwili whether by himself, his servants or agents from masquerading as party president.

The party is seeking a declaration that Kambwili having ceased to hold the temporary position of interim president and his name having not been registered on the list of office bearers of NDC has no mandate to transact any business of NDC.

NDC secretary general Bridget Atanga who has sued on behalf of the party said NDC was registered on September 17, 2017 with the Registrar of Societies.

She said during the registration of the party, the promoters of NDC lodged a constitution with the Registrar of Societies.

Atanga said according to Article 34 of the constitution the party, the constitution would be effective immediately upon its adoption by NDC consisting of 10,000 delegates.

She said to date NDC has not held its congress and the party constitution is not effective as the registration of a new constitution with the Registrar of Societies has delayed therefore the party has no constitution.

Atanga explained that on February 24, 2021 Kambwili in the presence of vice-president Josephs Rikki Akafumba and other senior members of the party informed her that he should not be considered in the decision making process of the party and that he relinquished his position as interim president of NDC.

She said on February 27, this year despite having ceased to hold the position of interim president of NDC, Kambwili and his cohorts held a gathering in Luanshya on the Copperbelt purporting that it was a central committee meeting of NDC when in fact not.

Atanga said Kambwili purported that the gathering was in accordance with the constitution of the NDC despite the fact that the same has not been registered.

She said the mammoth gathering was attended by Luanshya based sympathisers of NDC and was held in the absence of the vice-president, national chairman, secretary general and deputy secretary general.

Atanga said after the illegal gathering Kambwili held a press briefing indicating that the said gathering had resolved to suspend some members of the party.

“The defendant publicly declared that he intended to write purported suspension letters to some members of the party and commence disciplinary proceedings against the said members and by his action, Kambwili demonstrated his intention to perpetuate his illegality unless restrained,” Atanga said.

She said Kambwili was written to by the party requesting him to stop masquerading as president of NDC and to stop making any decisions in the name of the party as well as not to repeat his illegalities, but Kambwili has failed to adhere to the party’s demands within the given timeframe.

“On March 1, 2021 two days after his illegal gathering and resolutions Kambwili or his agents and servants attempted to lodge a constitution with the Registrar of Societies in an effort to conceal his illegalities but the Registrar of Societies declined the said lodgement pending determination of other litigation concerning the NDC,” Atanga said.

She said the purported resolutions of the said gatherings are null and void ab initio.

Atanga argued that the purported resolutions of the gathering were a nullity because they were not in accordance with the NDC constitution which is not effective and that Kambwili ceased to hold the position of interim president and had no legal mandate to perform party duties including convening gatherings and suspending any member of the party.

She disclosed that Kambwili is not among the office bearers of the party registered with the Registrar of Societies.

Atanga prayed that the court grants the NDC an interim injunction as there is an urgent need to restrain Kambwili from continuing with his illegalities.

She contended that as a result of Kambwili’s actions, the party has suffered loss and damage.

Atanga further wants a declaration that the gathering by Kambwili and his cohorts dated February 27, is null and void ab initio and has no effect and so were the purported resolutions, for being held in the absence of any party constitutional provisions.

We will not be part of the alliance circuses going on – Fred M’membe

PRESS STATEMENT: We will not be part of the alliance circuses going on

THE issue of us joining alliances or pacts keeps on coming up. We have explained and explained our position on this issue but it keeps coming up ceaselessly.

For us, it is not about quick and easy political fixes just to enable us win elections. For us, there is no choice between being principled and unelectable; and electable and unprincipled. We should win because of what we believe in.

A complex era such as this requires principles more than ever. It requires a lot more awareness. Political deals, alliances or pacts are worthless if they are not inspired by noble, selfless sentiments. Likewise, noble sentiments are worthless if they are not based on correct and fair arrangements.

We have chosen to defend certain principles that are of tremendous value at a time of confusion and opportunism in our country, a time when many politicians are feathering their own nests.

We will cooperate with other political players to address problems which affect all of us. But we will not be part of these alliance circuses going on.

Nobody should think that things are going to be easy. We must be prepared to meet difficulties. We have difficulties right now, and we will have even greater ones in the coming days, weeks and months, even if we do things the right way – and we should do them the right way, even if it calls for our greatest efforts. We have to cope with the objective problems of the situation prevailing in our country, the increasing number of restrictive and repressive measures this corrupt, intolerant, cruel and tyrannical regime takes against us.

Nothing great ever came easy; nothing good ever came easy. The struggles, challenges, and obstacles that it takes to succeed in life is what makes success more valuable. Nothing great comes easy, and nothing easy can ever equate to greatness.

Working hard on a goal is really the only way to reach it. The results won’t be overnight, nor would it be easy.

Aside from being patient, investing a lot of time and effort is needed. It’s true that nothing great ever came that easy. Often times, it would take so much work and patience in order to succeed. Hard work and focus is the only way to reach a goal.

In most cases, results won’t come easy or happen overnight. It’s true that nothing great ever came that easy. Often times, it would take so much work, patience and dedication. And we shouldn’t give up. The path to victory is filled of obstacles and challenges. We just need to find solutions and keep on struggling.

Lots of hard work and time need to be invested – nothing great ever came that easy. A life of ignoble ease which springs merely from lack either of desire or of power to strive after great things, is as little worthy of a nation as of an individual. I admire a person who embodies victorious effort; who has those virile qualities necessary to win in the stern strife of actual life. It is hard to fail; but it is worse never be have tried to succeed. In this life we get nothing save by effort.

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the grey twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.

The state our country is in calls for not for the life of ease, but for the life of strenuous endeavour. If we shrink from the hard contests where we must win at hazard of our lives and at the risk of all we hold dear, then the bolder and stronger will pass us by and will win for themselves the domination of our country.

Let us therefore boldly face the life of strife, resolute to do our duty well; resolute to uphold righteousness by word and by deed; resolute to be both honest and brave, to serve high ideals, yet to use practical methods. Above all, let us shrink from no strife, moral or physical, provided we are certain that the strife is justified; for it is only through strife, through hard and dangerous endeavour, that we shall ultimately win.

NEWLY APPOINTED UPND NATIONAL YOUTH CHAIRPERSON, GILBERT LISWANISO TOURS TOWN

…vows to teach PF a lesson should they misbehave

5th March, 2021

By: Emison Ng’andu

UPND national youth chairperson, Gilbert Liswaniso this afternoon after the radio interview with PAN-AFRICAN RADIO took time to tour Lusaka town. Mr Liswaniso walked on foot from Indeco building to the party Secretariat in Rhodes park.

During the tour of town, Liswaniso sympathised with people trading along Cairo road who are on a daily basis harassed by PF thugs. He told them that soon UPND government will put an end to this harassment.

Traders who could not hide their excitement upon seeing the UPND national youth leader promise Mr Liswaniso to teach PF a lesson come August later this year. They said they have been harassed enough and August will present as a gift for them to repay (revenge) what they have received from PF thugs.

“Enough is enough, we have suffered alot at the hands of these PF guys, and August will be a present to us so we revenge by voting them out”, said one of the traders.

UPND national youth leader has since vowed to defend the people and teach PF a lesson should they misbehave.

“Ours is the country first and this is the reason why we are ready to defend the people of this country. Should PF misbehave, we will teach them a lesson. The Zambian people are not fools and they(PF) should not take them for granted”, he said.

The tour of town comes barely a day after Liswaniso was appointed national youth chairperson by the party president, Hakainde Hichilema.

Liswaniso was accompanied by, NMC member Steven Chikota, former national youth IPS Samuel Ngwira and UPND Lusaka District youths.

DON’T SPEAK WITH FOOD IN YOUR MOUTH – SICHULA URGES CK

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) party Copperbelt Provincial Chairperson has told its leadership who is saying they have lost direction and network by supporting the UPND Alliance to desist from doing so as its actually him who has lost direction as his actions only shows he wants to satisfy his personal maneuvers.

Speaking during a media briefing held at the Joint Alliance presser held at the United National Development (UPND) secretariat in kitwe on the 2nd March 2021, George Sichula advised the NDC former Interim President Chishimba Kambwili to stop speaking with food in his mouth, as nothing is hidden under the sun, whatever people does in the dark it always comes out in the open. It’s different from me I have not eaten from the UPND, we are only doing what we are doing for the people of Zambia, Sichula said.

It’s so unfortunate to see the the Zambian most Top Dog Politician IMBWILI to waste his political career to the PF in exchange to destabilize the Alliance.

Comrade Sichula during the meeting advised his counterpart from the UPND Honourable Elisha Matambo that they move together and gather votes for the Alliance President Hakahinde Hichilema, Sir let’s do what the people of Zambia wants, people want change and the time is now.

The NDC Copperbelt Boss further said there are some people saying that the Patriotic Front cannot go, because they have so much money which they are pumping in to their campaigns, yes PF have money, but let me remind Zambians, during the Roan by-election the whole State House and Cabinet Ministers went and camped in to Roan and you all know that that by-election was the most funded in the history of Zambian politics. But we all know what happened, the people of Roan told them off that (ukutumpa bashya kumushi), and we did the lopola. This August 12,2021 we shall repeat the same formula but this time around it shall be the whole Zambia under the slogan (PF Pakulila and UPND Alliance Pakuvotela) , be assured by midday that day PF should pack will bags.

The Alliance is not for UPND, neither is it for President HH, it is not for CK, but for the people of Zambia and anyone who tempers with it, I want to tell you we are prepared, will go in the Perry Urban’s to tell people the truth about the PF, (twalaya mukusumwa naba mosquito) to make sure that come Poll day the UPND Alliance comes out victorious. All those bringing tribal talks, we are not going to listen to such, people of Zambia let’s give President HH time, let’s see how his going to change people’s lives. Said Sichula

Lubinda Is Placing Lungu In A Blast Furnace – Sikaile Sikaile

SIKAILE SIKAILE WRITES

LUBINDA IS PLACING LUNGU IN A BLAST FURNACE

We are wondering what justice minister LUBINDA eats which has got to his brain to fail to reason properly. We have made it very clear through the constitution of Zambia that Edgar Lungu doesn’t qualify for presidency and should he go ahead then he will be committing a coup d’état and Zambia army will arrest him.

It is true our enemies can be those we eat with and our own selves. Lungu’s enemies are his own people failing to tell him the truth that he will be arrested and convicted if he decides to abuse the constitution of Zambia. He could also be his own eneny, I remember what happened when the Attorney General advised on ministers continued stay in office. Cadres were an leashed on him, they used tribal comments. State counsel Sangwa is arguing in line with the constitution of Zambia which was signed by Lungu himself. It is so shocking that these PF leaders are trying to lie to each other. This is a serious matter and we shall see that judge or electoral officer who shall process Lungu’s papers during filling in of nominations. We are waiting for him and that will be the end of PF.

We want to warn LUBINDA that he will be arrested as an accomplice if he tries to sabotage the constitution of Zambia on the pretext that stopping Lungu will be a threat to our peace. We are stopping a criminal activity and how does that threaten the peace of the country? The peace is already threatened by a President abrogating the rule of law with impunity. We are not fools Mr LUBINDA. Just begin to prepare a different candidate and stop telling Mr Lungu lies.

156476744_456347509147944_866793267183499951_n

Don’t put him in trouble that you won’t be there for him when things get bad. We are waiting for him to be adopted and you will be shocked of the outcome.Let’s not embarrass our Head of State, no matter how pathetic his leadership has been. We need to break the cycle of arresting our former heads of state.

Congratulations but work, work – HH tells new appointees

By Chambwa Moonga

STEPHEN Katuka is the new UPND national chairman.

The post was held by Mutale Nalumango, who is now the opposition party’s vice-president.
UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema announced 19 nominated national management committee (NMC) members.

According to the UPND constitution, the NMC is made up of 70 elected officials, 30 nominated ones and 10 provincial chairpersons – headed by the party president.
A fortnight ago, 70 officials (50 males and 20 females) were declared as NMC members, after they emerged victorious at the February 14 general assembly.

Hichilema announced 12 more women and seven men nominated as NMC members, at the UPND secretariat in Lusaka this afternoon.
He still has to nominate 11 more and he assures that such will be done shortly, in a couple of days, “so that we can focus on the work at hand.”

“As at today, we have brought in a legion of women because after the general assembly…. We set out a target for ourselves that we need to meet a certain percentage of NMC members constituted by women,” Hichilema said.
“We fell short by a small margin, through the general assembly. So, we went out looking for more women from across the country.”

Those nominated include Angela Kawandami, Grace Chivube, Matildah Shatuka, Mable Kamangala, Rose Sakala, Gertrude Imenda, Gladys Lundwe, Annie Matutu, Patricia Nawa, Regina Musokotwane, Lusa Kabemba and Cindy Kauka.

“These women constitute an additional number to those that were elected through the open general assembly,” he said.
“We have surpassed our target of 30 per cent of women in the NMC.”

The nominated male NMC members are Paul Sichamba, Paul Thole, Nathan Ilunga, Joseph Mphuka, Stephen Katuka, Musangu Njamba and Brian Ndumba.

Hichilema said: “you can say what you want about us. [But] we are determined to bring Zambians together.”

“Hatred has no place! Exclusion has no place,” he emphasised.

He further announced the chairman/chairperson and some deputies for some committees in the party.

They are as follows:
Sylvia Masebo (mobilisation and strategy), Charles Kakoma (commerce, trade and industry), Jack Mwiimbu (legal and constitutional affairs), Cornelius Mweetwa (information and publicity) [spokesperson], Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane (finance and economics), Watson Lumba (treasurer general), Doreen Mwamba (national women affairs chairperson), Gilbert Liswaniso (national youth chairman), Rose Sakala (international relations), Stephen Katuka (national chairman), Batuke Imenda (national coordinator), Brenda Tambatamba (community development), Subeta Mutelo, Gladys Tavaris and Edith Kamanga (national women affairs deputy chairpersons), Cindy Kauka (national youth deputy chairperson), and Likando Mufalali (infrastructure development).
Others are Gary Nkombo (elections), Grace Chibwa (finance and economics deputy chairperson), Gilles Yambayamba (tourism), Charles Kaisala (energy), Elias Mubanga (small-medium businesses), Newton Samakai (local government), Andrew Banda, Namakau Kabwiku and Collins Maoma (vice-national chairpersons), Levy Ngoma (agriculture), William Banda (chairman – special duties), Lusa Kabemba (deputy community development), Bernard Mpundu (industry), Martha Mushipe (trustee), Daphine Chabu (deputy chairperson legal and constitutional affairs), Loveness Malambo (deputy treasurer general), Patrick Mucheleka (deputy secretary general – politics), Gertrude Imenda (deputy secretary general – administration), and Kabesha Mulilo (lands).

He reminded those assigned roles in the party that there was nothing to celebrate about.
“Congratulations! But you are called to duty, not to celebration. This is a heavy load that you carry for the suffering masses of Zambia. That’s how we should treat any opportunity to serve,” Hichilema advised.

He also told UPND members the one thing to learn and live with; “that we are talented differently.”

“We need all the talents on the table. If we are all the same, we’ll not achieve anything,” he said.

“We are looking for people who are willing to serve the people of Zambia and are not going to give up because they have been splashed with tear gas; people who know why they are seeking public office. We don’t want an NMC member, a chairperson of a committee who just sits. No! No! No! Work, work.”

Hichilema added that over the years, he has learnt the art of growing the UPND membership.

“Very difficult task! But I have learnt to work with people that think differently from myself. We shouldn’t be driven by dislikes [but] by accommodating others,” noted Hichilema.

State House Knows Killers Of Nsama And Joseph Kaunda – Sikaile Sikaile

SIKAILE SIKAILE WRITES

STATE HOUSE KNOWS KILLERS OF NSAMA AND JOSEPH KAUNDA

We would like to remind president Edgar Lungu and his PF government that justice should be granted at all cost in the gruesome murder of two civilians Mr Nsama and Joseph Kaunda. We have for some time now been informing the nation about the state involvement in killings of innocent citizens by PF government.

We are also aware that president Edgar Lungu as commander in chief of the armed forces knows the killers of Mapenzi Chibulo, Vespers Shimunzhila, Matapa Glayzia, Malesu Mukonka, Obed Bwalya Kasongo, Mark Choongwa, Lawrence Banda, Frank Mugala, Kennedy Mudenda and many others. The people who have committed these crimes are free roaming the streets and Mr Lungu is happy.

On the murder of Mr Nsama Nsama and Joseph Kaunda: before the execution we warned the country what PF were planning and few days later after the killing of Nsama and Joseph, we called upon Mr Lungu to fire Kampyongo, Kanganja, Lusambo and Esther Katongo following our independent investigations. However, our earnest call for justice was trashed by Mr Lungu and the PF government. Today Human Rights Commission finds the same culprits wanting.

We demand for the immediate arrest of the said people including Mr Nelson Phiri if we are to see justice in this case. We have all the information on who the real culprits are and constable Nyundu was used as a sacrificial lamb.Let all stakeholders take keen interest in this matter otherwise we shall continue being killed like chickens.

We are also aware of how some state house officials coordinated this shooting. This is why we have maintained our stance that the killing was a state house project and president Edgar Lungu is very much aware of all the people who participated in this extrajudicial killing going on in our country. We appeal to Mr Lungu to do the right thing because Zambians wants to see justice.

We again challenge Mr Lungu that if his hands are clean together with his government let him fire these people mentioned in the report immediately. But if he sanctioned this act of violence then he shall continue hiding them. We have not forgotten about the death of Obed Bwalya Kasongo killed by one of president Lungu’s current serving minister who again have appeared in the Nsama and Joseph Kaunda’s case.

HH’s Pride And Arrogance, His Political Flaws…. otherwise he would have been Republican President by now – Wiseman Tembo

0

By Wiseman Tembo.

Political | Analysis: HH’s Pride And Arrogance, His Political Flaws.

…. otherwise he would have been Republican President by now.

The late Anderson Kambela Mazoka built the UPND from scratch and within three years, he had built up a formidable infrastructure that almost defeated the MMD in 2001. However, Hakainde Hichilema has been using the infrastructure Mazoka left behind to bargain for political power thereby exposing his lust for power.

Since taking over the UPND (by default), HH has always been looking for who to use to get to State House. He found himself on a silver plate of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) already was already in place consisting of the UPND, FDD and UNIP, ready to challenge Mwanawasa and the MMD in the 2006 general elections. Despite being a novice in Politics, HH bullied his way to being the Alliance’s presidential candidate insulting, in the process, the FDD leader, Edith Nawakwi, that she belonged to the kitchen thus she wasn’t fit to be the Alliance’s presidential candidate. Mr. Hichilema contested the 2006 general elections and came out third getting 25% of the vote and the UDA got 26 seats in the National Assembly. The Alliance, understandably, disbanded in 2008.

On 4th June 2009, the PF and the UPND announced the formation of an electoral pact called PF-UPND Pact. Sata and HH were hailed by their supporters as patriots that had cast aside their selfish and parochial interests to foster unity in the opposition to help defeat President Rupiah Banda and his MMD.

The formation of the Pact was clouded in secrecy and the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed provided bare information. However, a secret agreement existed, that provided that although a presidential candidate would not be announced till 2011, PF leader Michael Sata would stand while Hakainde Hichilema was designated as Vice-President. Further, the secret agreement stated that Sata would only rule for one presidential term while Hichilema would take over the reins in 2016. Hence began the troubles of the Pact.

As a way of proving their imaginary political superiority over Sata and the PF, HH and the UPND began to predict that since President Mwanawasa was a “Bantu-Botatwe” and was no longer on the scene, they could recapture the strongholds the party lost to the MMD after the 2006 Elections and previously held after the 2001 Elections.

While Hichilema was in the USA in May of 2010, he called for a press conference prior to his arrival. Upon his arrival, Hichilema declared that he was the most suitable presidential candidate for the pact because of his young age claiming that this was the world trend Zambia had to follow. He claimed that what had happened during that period in the USA, Russia, Tanzania and the United Kingdom where young candidates in Barack Obama, Dmitry Medvedev, Jakaya Kikwete and David Cameron beat older candidates gave him hope to lead the Pact.

During the same press briefing, HH threw shade on the PF and Sata by claiming that PF had lost significance ground in their strongholds in Luapula, Northern and Copperbelt Provinces following former president Frederick Chiluba’s public support rendering to President Rupiah Banda and the MMD, and this brought immediate concerns from the PF and Sata. This was followed by attempts by the UPND to justify and underplay Hichilema’s mild statement. But Sata and the PF could not be fooled because HH’s greediness had already been exposed. Rumours of the Pact splitting started gaining momentum.

On March 11th 2011, the UPND officially announced that it had broken away from the electoral pact with the PF. They accused PF President Michael Sata of being disrespectful towards the UPND. Announcing the party’s decision to break away from the Pact during a press briefing, UPND Vice President, then, Mr. Richard Kapita, expressed confidence that the UPND were going to emerge victorious in the September 20 elections.

7 months later, the general elections were held and Sata and PF won the presidential elections, defeating incumbent Rupiah Banda of the MMD. PF got 42.85% of the total votes cast while UPND which came out third got only 18.54%. The PF emerged as the largest party in the National Assembly, winning 60 of the 148 seats.

The lesson to learn from HH’s political flaws and lust for power is that patience, humbleness and humility pays. Had HH humbled himself and let the great Micheal Sata to lead the PF-UPND electoral pact, he would have been Republican President today. His pride cost him the Vice Presidency and much worse the Presidency. As the word of scripture puts it, “pride comes before a fall”.

Why Cyber Security And Cyber Crimes Law Will Be Dangerous To Zambians

0

WHY CYBER SECURITY AND CYBER CRIMES LAW WILL BE DANGEROUS TO ZAMBIANS.

It is interesting how some institutions like IBA are supporting such a draconian law in this modern world that aimed at gagging and violating not only people’s freedoms and rights but the Constitution too.

Such institutions like IBA surprisingly have not supported the enactment of the access to information neither have they condemned its shelving for close to 20 years and yet this is key to growth of vibrant and plural media industry in Zambia including the fight against fake news and misinformation.

Limited circulation of authentic information is what has caused the growth of fake news and misinformation in the country and does not need the cyber security and crimes law but access to information law instead.

Sometimes, I wonder how Zambians get cheated, hoodwinked and blindfolded by the politicians in government and how institutions of governance got into muzungu anikonde vuvuzela mode and start supporting such evil intentions.

The cyber security and crimes Bill No. 2 of 2021 intends to expand the surveillance services by the state on citizens through intercepting, monitoring, seizing, searching and investigating their phones and computers with or without search warrants and court orders and at anytime and place as long as the law enforcement agencies such as cyber inspectors reasonably suspect that cyber crimes are being committed.

Bill 2 further violates the supreme law of the land by its intentions to invade citizens’ rights to privacy (Art 17), violate their freedom to information, expression and opinion and communication and the freedom of the press (Art 20), protection from deprivation of one’s property (Art 16) which includes computers, phones etal and the right to remain silent and share incriminating information (Art 18(7) when confronted by law enforcement agencies among others.

Citizens’ conversations, communication and correspondences are earmarked to be under constant monitoring, surveillance, interception and investigation by the state, its agents and the electronic communications service providers.

Bill 2 criminalises the right to remain silent when confronted and requested by the cyber inspectors and refuse to give evidence or information to them.

Possession of obscene materials, for instance in your phone or computer, even if they have just been circulated unsolicited, say by one of your whatsApp group member, is an offence that can lead you into jail for a minimum of period of 2 years.

The sanctions are so punitive and range from 2years imprisonment to life imprisonment and from K60, 000 in terms of fine to K600, 000 or to both.

Bill 2 has potential to congest the prisons in a short period of time and undermine the noble fight for the decongested prisons and the crusade embarked on by the President through the numerous pardons of prisoners.

In others, Bill 2 has nothing to do with cyber security, bullying and abuses but incriminating citizens and treating them as potential criminals who deserve to be jailed.

Though the capacity by the state to implement such a law once passed may not be there to meet the wide range of sanctions in the proposed Bill 2 against citizens, the fact that it is being rushed, the few politicians being targeted ahead of the elections will be netted.

However, the beauty is that those sponsoring this Bill 2 in the name of being a minister of cite cite will not be ministers in the next two months and surveillance, interception and investigation the state will most likely going to catch up with them as police and other law enforcement agencies will be free to intercept and monitor any communication, conversations and correspondences even from Given Lubinda and Kafwaya, the sponsors who will then be called former minister of cite cite.

Soon we will be welcoming them to the commoners’ common room and if this law is bad, let them dance pelete too with us.

Otherwise this law will undermine the fight against corruption, the safety of whistleblowers and existence and growth of investigative journalism in Zambia.

It is just one of the bad laws ever mooted in Zambia.

I submit

Zambia is in trouble – Nalumango

0

UPND vice-president Mutale Nalumango has asked what can be more sabotage than individuals in the government having more money than the government itself.

She says Zambia is in trouble, under the auspices of the PF.

Nalumango promises that a UPND government will contain wasteful expenditure.

She spoke on Beyond Headlines programme on KBN TV on Monday night.

“Things are expensive [and] Zambians are suffering because there is sabotage. What is sabotage? People have money [while] the treasury is broke! Individuals in government have a lot of money. What is more sabotage than that?” Nalumango said. “You have over-borrowed and the little that comes in you have pocketed… Zambia is in trouble! We are coming and one thing we are going to do is to stop this corruption. When you stop corruption, then you have projects done at the correct cost. We’ll stop wasteful expenditure.”

She explained that when the UPND leadership says: “we are going to sell the presidential jet, we are not saying we are going to sell it and put money in our pocket.”

“We are going to sell it so that children can go to school. When we stop these wasteful expenditures and corruption, money shall be there for us to send children to school [for] free,” Nalumango said. “We’ll have money to give citizens credit facility so that people can be able to do their small businesses in the markets. We’ll ensure that there is better resource management in our country.”

Nalumango further wondered which roads the PF government could point at, which it had improved.

She said even in Lusaka there were some: “horrible roads.”

“There are many places [where there are terrible roads]. I don’t know where you have made roads. Have you constructed roads in Luapula Province? Which roads have you made?” Nalumango asked.

“Na kwa Kaputa mukayeko (you should also go to Kaputa). It is impassable going there! Mukayeko na kwa Nsama (you should also go to Nsama district). It is impassable! Mukayeko naku Chienge (you should also go to Chienge). It is impassable! Mukayeko mwebantu ku Milenge (you people should also go to Milenge). It is impassable!”

She insisted that bad major roads could be spotted in all the provinces.
“Go to Western Province…Elo mulebepa abantu ati mwalipanga (and you are deceiving people that you have constructed)! What have you made?” asked Nalumango. “Even in Lusaka you have roads which are melting. Moreover, is Lusaka Zambia? Look at the Great North Road! Kabwe – Kapiri Mposhi – Ndola.”

We Demand For An Independent Audit Of The New Voters Rigister, Figures Have Been Cooked To Aid Pf Rigging Scheme – Otis Bwalya

0

WE DEMAND FOR AN INDEPENDENT AUDIT OF THE NEW VOTERS RIGISTER, FIGURES HAVE BEEN COOKED TO AID PF RIGGING SCHEME.

Lusaka-04/03/2021

The figures for registered voters as released by ECZ last week have clearly been cooked and as such cannot be trusted. It is clear, ECZ have continued their drive to aid PF rigging of the August 12 elections, one does not need to be super intelligent to tell that the figures released by ECZ have been doctored and skewed to have more people voting in perceived PF strongholds whilst at the same time they have reduced numbers in UPND strongholds.

How can they explain the more than 100,000 reduction of voters in Northwestern, Western and Southern provinces and at the same time the unbelievable increase of more than 300,000 voters for Eastern, Muchinga, Luapula and Northen provinces, this is crazy! It is also common knowledge that the population of Zambia has been growing since we last held elections and so has the number of eligible voters in UPND strongholds. It is only expected that the number of registered voters in Northwestern, Western and Southern provinces is also supposed to go up.

As Lusaka Province, will soon be engaging ECZ on this one because they owe us and the Zambian people an explanation. ECZ has been systematically working on aiding the PF vote rigging mechanism and we cannot just sit and watch. We saw how they made sure that in UPND strongholds they took very few voter registration machines which kept on breaking down. Even the issuance of NRCs was problematic such that only a few were captured in UPND strongholds.

These latest inflated figures from PF strongholds goes to prove our suspicion that ECZ was registering some underage children and foreigners in order to increase the numbers. The conduct of ECZ is in breach of their Constitutional mandate to run free and fair elections. We can no longer trust this voter register and we demand that ECZ should subject it to an independent audit by a credible audit firm.

ECZ ought to know that process protects content. The process for coming up with this voter register raises a lot of legitimate questions. We cannot allow them to temper with the collective will of the zambian people. This careless way of handling elections is what has caused instability in many countries around the world. This election is about the people choosing their leaders. It is not open to ECZ to manipulate and force upon the people a leadership that they have already rejected.

In order to restore stakeholder confidence in this election the only sensible thing that can be done now is to have the voters register audited immediately!

Kambwili’s Leaving Opposition Alliance Has Nothing To Do With Our Past Discussions – GBM

0

KAMBWILI’S LEAVING OPPOSITION ALLIANCE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR PAST DISCUSSIONS, SAYS GBM

Ruling PF vice-chairperson for mobilisation Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) says Chishimba Kambwili’s leaving of the alliance is a new development that has nothing to do with “what we have been discussing in the past.”

And GBM said there was an increase in the registration of voters in ruling party strongholds without the corresponding effect in opposition strongholds, because the ruling party sensitised their people on the huge turnout registered in opposition areas during general elections.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, GBM said he had been vindicated for insisting that Kambwili could not work with opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema, “because HH failed me.”

He said there was no wind of change in the country because people were happy with the leadership of President Edgar Lungu, saying the opposition alliance was therefore going nowhere.

Asked if what was happening in the alliance was the fruit of his claims that he had been talking to Kambwili, GBM said this was a new development that had just come up.

“This is just a new development which has come up where Kambwili has been ejected out of the alliance. In as far as I am concerned he’s not wanted because he’s not supporting them, so I think this is just a new development, not because of what we have been discussing in the past,” GBM said.

Asked if he and those in the ruling party would continue talking to Kambwili, GBM said politics was about numbers, with no permanent enemies.

“Politics there is no enmity, there is no permanent friendship and I think there is no permanent enemy in politics. It’s not like in the UPND if you differ with HH you are an enemy for good. But in PF President Lungu is not like that,” GBM said. “You can differ today, tomorrow you can reconcile and work together and this is basically what we are going to do. So even those that will be out of the alliance they are more than welcome to come and join us, because we need numbers, we need people.”

On assertions that the ruling party is trying to rig the general elections through the number of registered voters, GBM said the PF sensitised people in their strongholds to register enmass.

“There was so much publicity disseminated to all the entire country but if they didn’t vote according to their expectations that is not our fault. And we had to sensitize our people in our strongholds that I think what our colleagues have been doing in the past you should also emulate and do it,” said GBM. “And we did it well this time so they shouldn’t cry foul at all. They didn’t just sensitise th… – Daily Revelation

PF Ministers Millionaires Club : State Capture

Joe Malanji was rich, but not that rich until now. We were together in MMD. Off course if you are a business man and become a Minister you become privileged to more opportunities and advantages. What’s shocking is how rich our Ministers have became at expense of a bankrupt nation and a shrinking economy. In the past few years 80 percent of PF ministers have became $ millionaires whilst the economy is doing badly. The cost of living is sky rocketing and genuine businesses have crashed. Apparently after becoming Ministers they have became better businessmen and women. The money they have they can pay off half of the ballooning debt and that is choking the nation.

When Chilufya declared millions of his earnings in court we were shocked, the foolish defense was that he has being doing even before politics. The same stupid reason today. Now every businesses man and woman understands that it’s best to get into goverment and give yourself more business opportunities.

This is very simple to see, its corruption and lack of interigty or ethics. Even the cadres now are called businessmen that are taking pictures and videos though money in the air. This is in the midst of banks “closing”, insurance companies in red, mines struggling, manufacturing limping and bank reseves dilapidated ..if cadres have money like that ..imagine the ministers, partners and relatives. They have shared the nation.

What they doing is insider trading because they have no interigty and patriotism. They share contracts from a privileged point of view; being in cabinet as business man you will be privileged to know when the dollar will go up or down, that the oil company be liberalized and all the major big business deals in goverment. Then they use their privileged connections and information to empower their business and partners . By the time the business is reaching market they have already grabbed half…like we are seeing in construction, gold mining and KCM. If it’s KCM they have shared it through contracts.

This is what happens when you elect people in goverment to serve themselves and not the people. They have served themselves and we are left with crumbs from the table at their mercy. Whilst we struggle to rise over K1000 to travel on bus to Kasama and back they are flying in their OWN planes. They have no decency or the heart for the people; merciless hearts that must be voted out. What is sad is that we even defend them. Let Malanji differ with Government today and we will see how long he has being doing business..He will crush in two weeks and that qualifies my statement that this must be corruption.

Offcourse there are benefits if you are in goverment but “teku kolopa” sparkling clean. Tell me which Cabinet member is not a millionare?

NDC COPPERBELT FLAGS OFF ITS CAMPAIGNS FOR UPND ALLIANCE

Speaking at a media briefing held at the United Party for National Development (UPND) held on the 2nd March 2021 in Kitwe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party Copperbelt Boss George Sichula assured it’s membership that he shall immediately start visiting the Constituencies, Ward and District across to help out the brothers and sisters in NDC who are still in the dark, so that they too must know the truth about the UPND Alliance and it’s candidature of President Hakahinde Hichilema.

Sichula further echoed that the campaign strategy this time around is very simple, the Patriotic Front (PF) are going out there to dish out monies in the name of Presidential Initiative Funds, this only happens in Zambia were a seating President has acquired so much money than the government it self. Right now we don’t have medicines in hospitals, Zambians are leaving in poverty and PF is busy dishing out monies and as if it’s not enough some named Ministers can now even afford to by helicopters, God help us.

To the people of Zambia, what ever monies the PF is bringing to you now eat it because it’s your money, but remember it’s not the monies you need,as the UPND Alliance is forming government come August 12,2021 we shall not give you fish but teach you how to fish, so that we remove the poverty brought by the brutal regime the PF.

During the meeting Mr Sichula also appealed to other Provinces Lusaka, Northern, Eastern and Western to come out in the open and declare their interest in working with the UPND Alliance, as Zambia is a democratic and everyone has a right to support what they want, nobody can force anyone to do what doesn’t please their hearts.

If leaders are taking us at the other side we have a right to say Boss here, we’re you are taking us, we are not for the idea, you cannot take us to our vomit, said Sichula.

Listen my Comrades in NDC, that by-election in Roan Constituency had it not been for our Alliance partners the UPND, we couldn’t have won as NDC, (ushitasha mwana wandoshi), let’s stop overrating ourselves, let’s move in humility. Did the UPND say we are not going to accommodate any aspiring candidates?, no they didn’t say that, they are open, you can see that they are doing things from a good heart.

And therefore, I would like to speak to all the structures in the Copperbelt, those aspiring to stand as Councillors, Member of Parliament and Mayors feel free to make applications on the UPND Alliance.

Lastly to our leaders, I want to say what Moses said to Pharaoh that let my people go, please let those who would love to support the Alliance go freely and do that, do not victimise them, Sichula said.

United States President RENEWS Sanctions Imposed On Zimbabwe Officials

The United States has extended sanctions on Zimbabwean government officials after President Joe Biden renewed the sanctions for another year.

The United States renewed the sanctions which were first imposed in 2003 saying that the actions of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe “continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States.”

In a notice sent to Congress on Wednesday, President Biden accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government of failing to make meaningful economic and political reforms in Zimbabwe.

Below is the notice which Harare is publishing in its entirety.

CONTINUATION OF THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY WITH RESPECT TO ZIMBABWE

On March 6, 2003, by Executive Order 13288, the President declared a national emergency and blocked the property of certain persons, pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701-1706), to deal with the unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States constituted by the actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions. These actions and policies had contributed to the deliberate breakdown in the rule of law in Zimbabwe, to politically motivated violence and intimidation in that country, and to political and economic instability in the southern African region.

On November 22, 2005, the President issued Executive Order 13391 to take additional steps with respect to the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288 by ordering the blocking of the property of additional persons undermining democratic processes or institutions in Zimbabwe.

On July 25, 2008, the President issued Executive Order 13469, which expanded the scope of the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288 and authorized the blocking of the property of additional persons undermining democratic processes or institutions in Zimbabwe.

The actions and policies of certain members of the Government of Zimbabwe and other persons to undermine Zimbabwe’s democratic processes or institutions continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the foreign policy of the United States. For this reason, the national emergency declared on March 6, 2003, and the measures adopted on that date, on November 22, 2005, and on July 25, 2008, to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond March 6, 2021. Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13288.

This notice shall be published in the Federal Register and transmitted to the Congress.

Clerk allows Nkombo’s motion to challenge Speaker Matibini’s ‘controversial’ ruling

0

CLERK of the National Assembly has allowed Mazabuka Central UPND member of parliament Gary Nkombo’s motion to challenge Speaker Patrick Matibini’s ‘controversial’ ruling he made last year.

In November last year, Nkombo wrote to Clerk of the National Assembly, seeking to challenge Dr Matibini’s ruling over a point of order concerning three PF members of parliament who did not vote for Bill 10.

Nkombo stated that he wished to challenge the decision of Dr Matibini on a matter of conflicting rulings.

Nkombo noted that Section 23 (d) of the National Assembly (powers and privileges) Act state that, “Any person shall be guilty of an offence who – sends to any member any threatening letter,” – which is the case now – or challenge any member to a fight, on account of his conduct as such member”.

He recalled that PF secretary general Davies Mwila wrote letters to Frank Ng’ambi (Chifubu Constituency) Eulario Musonda (Kamfinsa Constituency) and Kabaso Kampampi (Mwansabombwe Constituency) to exculpate themselves for failing to vote for Bill 10.

“As a result of Mr Mwila’s act, Monze [Central UPND] member of parliament Jack Mwiimbu raised a point of order in relation to the Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general’s letter to three named MPs asking them to exculpate themselves as to their failure to vote for Bill 10,” Nkombo stated. “Presiding over the matter, chairperson, Hon. Catherine Namugala ruled as follows: ‘…unless, of course, as you have said, you can show evidence that those particular Hon members are being punished for what they have done in the House while enjoying their privileges, as Hon. members of parliament”.

He stated that arising from that ruling, he raised a point of order pursuant to the National Assembly (powers and privileges) Act and adduced evidence, “as guided by the ruling of the First Deputy Speaker on the same matter as highlighted above”.

Nkombo stated that in his ruling, Dr Matibini said, “…these letters you are bringing here are a subject of internal proceedings of a political grouping. It is work in progress. I am also alive to the fact that we do not have strict rules of loci standi, but I am left to wonder why we have these busybodies.”

“In view of the above, I wish to state that the Speaker’s ruling contradicts the earlier as such creates a procedural crisis as we are left to wonder which ruling shall bind future decisions,” he stated. “Further, refer to the point of order raised by Kanchibiya MP Hon. Dr Martin Malama on December 5th, 2019, in which he quoted an item reported by the Zambia Daily Mail, alleging that ‘United Party for National Development (UPND) secretary general Hon. Stephen Katuka had issued threats to two honourable MPs, namely Prof Geoffrey Lungwangwa and Teddy Kasonso on how they decided to deal with the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill No. 10 of 2019.’ Based on this point of order, Hon Katuka was summoned by your committees on Privileges, Absences and Support Services to exculpate himself.”

Nkombo is seeking “a one-third of the House to endorse the challenge to the Speaker’s ruling forthwith.”

In a letter from the Clerk’s office to Nkombo dated February 25, 2021, the motion will be placed on tomorrow’s order paper.

“… I am directed to refer to your letter dated 13th November, 2020 in which you sought to move a Challenge Motion entitled: Annul Speaker’s Ruling,” states the letter in part. “That in terms of Standing Order 62 of the National Assembly of Zambia Standing Orders, 2016, this House annuls the Speaker’s Ruling made on Friday 13th November, 2020, that the Patriotic Front Party should conclude its internal disciplinary proceedings against Mr K. Kabaso, Member of Parliament for Mwansabombwe, Mr E. Musonda, Member of Parliament for Kamfinsa and Dr F. Ng’ambi, Member of Parliament for Chifubu, for not participating in the voting on the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill No. 10 of 2019, and that a complaint may be filed against the Party’s Secretary General only by the affected members. I am further directed to inform you, Sir, that the Motion will be placed on the Order Paper for Thursday, 4th March, 2021.”

PRESIDENT LUNGU WILL WIN WITH OVER 70 PERCENT OF THE VOTES COME AUGUST 12-MUMBI PHIRI
… as she says he is an easy commodity to sale

By SmartEagles
Patriotic Front (PF) Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri has said that it is a waste of time talking about President Lungu’s eligibility to contest the 2021 general elections.

Mrs. Phiri charged that those that have been bringing up this issue were just politicking as the courts have already cleared this issue.

Speaking when she featured on Pan African radio’s ‘People’s Debate’ program, Mrs. Phiri said the party has already resolved that President Edgar Lungu will be the party’s sole presidential candidate in the August 12 elections because he is an easy commodity to sale.

She explained that President Lungu has won the hearts of many Zambians across the country as he has proved that he is a humble leader who cares for people.

The PF Deputy Secretary General also stated that it will be very easy to market President Lungu due to the unprecedented development the PF government has implemented under his leadership within a short period of time.

Mrs. Phiri said it is these developments that will see President Lungu win with over 70 percent of the votes come August 12, 2021.
And Mrs. Phiri stated that for the first time in the history of Zambia, President Lungu is the only head of state who cut his salary by 20 percent to give to the vulnerable.
“He has the right to get that money and give it to his relatives or children to spend it however they want,” Mrs. Phiri said.

She explained that she was shocked when she traveled to Western province with President Lungu to learn that the head of state used his personal salary to build fish ponds for the people who were called ‘Linyungandambo” in order empower them.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Phiri said the party has not stopped anyone from challenging President Lungu at the fourth coming General Conference as long as they are members of the party and qualify.

“We have not stopped anyone to challenge President Lungu but we have rules that are supposed to be followed,” she said.

And Mrs. Phiri stated that the party is more than ready to welcome back former Roan Member of Parliament Hon. Chishimba Kambwili if he decides to go back to PF.
“Now, if Hon. Kambwili even at 12 hours today said he is coming back to the PF; he is more than welcome because that is what we have been preaching, ” Mrs. said.

She explained that Hon. Kambwili is one of the founder members of the party who will be welcomed in the same manner Hon. Mwenya Musenge and Hon. Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba have been received.

And the PF Deputy SG said it was unfortunate that the former PF Secretary General Mrs. Bridget Atanga is again at the centre of wrangles in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“This is the same woman who nearly brought blood shed in PF when President Michael Sata died,” she said.

Mrs. Phiri said it is unfortunate that the country can have a woman who is always finding herself on the wrong side of things.

I’M HERE…leave the Hatembo family alone, HH tells PF

0

HAKAINDE Hichilema has charged that there is full blown State-sponsored terrorism in Zambia.

He criticised Saturday’s cruel ‘arrest’ of a Choma-based UPND member, Tom Silwiindi by gunmen.

Hichilema, the UPND leader, said there were political criminals who were collectively masquerading as a political party.

“I saw this thing coming. In 2012, 2013, I talked about militias and these are the militias that we talked about. PF militias!” Hichilema told journalists at his residence in Lusaka yesterday.

“But [they are in a] very small number. Release Tom Silwiindi and stop attacking other people.”

He said it had become necessary to address a very serious situation in Zambia that had been evolving overtime and it’s now fully blown.

“This is the issue to do with State-sponsored terrorism, State-sponsored violence. Thugs are terrorising our country, in the name of the ruling party – the PF,” Hichilema charged. “[They are] masquerading as government officials. We have been talking about violence orchestrated by a small number of those that are hiding behind the cover of public office.”

He underscored that PF-orchestrated thuggery in markets, bus stops/stations, taxi ranks and other public spaces must be stopped.

“Citizens cannot tolerate violence anymore that is orchestrated in specific locations of certain towns. Certain towns have specific locations where citizens are not allowed to go there, if they are not PF thugs,” he said. “In Lusaka here we have a place called Kamugodi (around Soweto area) where citizens are taken to when they are abducted from the compounds, from the streets.”

Hichilema explained that people were being abducted simply for holding a different opinion from those that were in the PF or occupying public office.

“People are taken to Kamugodi and they are tortured there and many times people have talked about Kamugodi. But the police have failed to move in to shut that place,” Hichilema complained. “There are other such places on the Copperbelt and other places in the country. This must stop immediately because citizens need freedom. No one should be brutalised in the market, at the bus stop and station and at the taxi ranks. Those are public places.”

Hichilema further reiterated that political violence was orchestrated by the top leadership of the PF.

He noted that if those occupying the presidency, ministerial positions were not benefiting from violence, “they could have shut places like Kamugodi a long time ago.”

“There is a trend now where citizens are not just harassed but they are abducted in the night, abducted in the day, from any place – including from a safe place we call a home,” Hichilema said.

“How can this be a country we can safely raise children in? What are we teaching our children? This must stop forthwith.”

He explained that the Hatembo family in Choma, which had initiated a farm ownership dispute with him, were being harassed by PF operatives for refusing to appeal, after it lost the matter in court.

“This family has had some of its members attacked by PF thugs from Lusaka, sent by this brutal regime. What sort of hatred is this? What is it that they want from HH?” he said. “The family withdraws the appeal and these brutal people are not satisfied. They now start pursuing the family. They attack members of the family, beat up a woman in a Mang’unza village in Mapanza (Choma). She ended up in Macha hospital. They are also attacking relatives of this family, to force them to continue with the court matter.”

He said the new phenomenon around those abductions was to now threaten and beat up the Hatembo family members and: “hunt them down.”

“This must stop! Are you looking for HH? I’m here. Leave the Hatembo family alone. The Hatembos are running away from thugs orchestrated by this woman, a few elements in the PF,” he said. “A young Tom Silwiindi man was abducted from his house in Choma because of this colossal hatred driven woman said so. Armed robbers masquerading as police men abducted him in full view of his wife and his children.”

Hichilema also said; “if Tom dies, the State and their thugs would have killed him.”

“For what crime? Because somehow he is connected to the Hatembos, somehow it’s alleged that he is the one telling the Hatembos not to appeal the [farm] matter. This is called State-sponsored terrorism,” Hichilema said.

He wondered which professional police could act like the “armed robbers” who abducted Silwiindi.

“I’m appealing to families that have had their members abducted to come forward, to notify us, because we want to take stock of such citizens who are being harassed and begin to support them in a legal way and also to ask the public to begin to protect each other,” said Hichilema.

Be careful with the laws that you make today, Kalala warns PF

0

JACK Kalala says it is an illusion for those in the PF to believe that they will be in power in perpetuity.

“Even dictatorships have an expiry date,” Kalala, a former aide to president Levy Mwanawasa, said in interview.

He was commenting on the PF government’s resolve to enact a cyber-crime and cyber security bill in Parliament.

Kalala argued that the fact that information minister Dora Siliya, for instance, reported to the police the social media money video that implicates her, was indicative of availability of law.

“It means that we have laws to deal with people who would commit cyber-crimes and it is not necessary to make a law to spy on citizens and infringe on their privacy,” Kalala said.

He cautioned PF leaders against wanting to enact certain laws that may be a trap to themselves in the future.

Kalala noted that it would be a fallacy to assume that they would be in power for the rest of their lives.

“Zambia is a democracy. No matter how the PF leaders may scheme to remain in power, they must be mindful that the final arbiters are the people of Zambia,” he said. “The Kaondes have a saying that bintu bicinja, meaning that things change. The only thing that is constant is change. Anything else changes!”

Kalala further recalled that during the Frederick Chiluba administration, some laws were made to target certain individuals.

“[But] some ministers later became victims of the same laws they had enacted, after leaving office. The same may apply to the PF ministers and members of parliament. Be careful with the laws that you make today,” he said. “If it will not be yourselves, it could be your children or grandchildren. It would be too late to cry foul then! It’s an illusion to believe that you would be in power for good. Even dictatorships have an expiry date!”’

Kalala, however, clarified that he was not in support of cyber-crime.

He said he was utterly against making draconian laws which were targeted at perceived enemies or aimed at infringing citizens’ privacy.

“Good laws should be neutral and should serve people’s rights. They should be user friendly,” said Kalala. “Leaders should desist from making laws that would be used as weapons against others. Laws should be good for everyone, including those who don’t agree with them.”

Kambwili treating NDC members as zombies, laments Sichula

0

NATIONAL Democratic Congress Copperbelt chairman George Sichula says “embattled” leader Chishimba Kambwili is treating members like zombies.

Sichula said NDC members attacking the UPND Alliance should stop speaking with food in their mouth.

Speaking at a media briefing at the UPND secretariat in Kitwe, Sichula, who was accompanied by several NDC Copperbelt executive members said the alliance was not for individuals.

“We are not here to defect, but to re-enforce the alliance which we stand in. As NDC provincial executive, we wish to reaffirm that we are in the alliance and behind our national leaders. We were made to believe in the alliance and we are now at 100 per cent. We believe that this alliance is working and will continue to work. The UPND came on board during the Roan by-elections, that was enough evidence. This alliance was not started by Hakainde Hichilema or Chishimba Kambwili, but the Zambian people,” Sichula said.

“People have talked about the alliance, so no one has the right to break the alliance. If you want to break it, go to the people of Zambia. How can one person go on TV and say we have come to the end? If you are tired of the alliance, please go it alone. We are in support of the alliance and it’s candidate Hakainde Hichilema who is incoming Head of State.”

Sichula explained that he was not suspended but was the provincial chairman.

“Leaders should let people decide on their own. If you want to go, go it alone. We have received calls asking on which side we are on. Let me tell you that we are on the side of the alliance. People are oppressed, unhappy, we are treated like zombies, who can’t think. People have a right to make decisions and should have a say. I am a member of Central Committee and I know the members of NDC, those people you saw [at Kambwili’s briefing in Luanshya] are not members. Meetings are held in Lusaka, now because in Lusaka they resisted, and he decided to have it in Luanshya, so he can gain fake numbers,” he said.

“We NDC on the Copperbelt, we need to be very sincere with ourselves. We are comfortable with the name UPND alliance. UPND is a brand which is easy to market. PF is going out to dish out money, but the alliance is going to tell the people the solutions to the problems. Those that want to aspire for positions, please apply in the UPND alliance. Don’t victimise citizens. People want change and the time is now.”

Sichula thanked NDC acting president Joseph Akafumba for standing on the side of the people over the UPND alliance.

He said Zambians can no longer trust the PF.

“We can’t trust the PF; they promised jobs, where are the jobs! Miners were promised money, but today, they are protesting; why? Because of the PF lies,” said Sichula.

And UPND Copperbelt chairman Elisha Matambo said the PF owe Zambians an explanation as to where they are getting money to dish out.

“Zambia is a failed state. Change of government is the solution to save the country from total collapse. So we can’t continue on this path as a country. The country is now upside down. We need to redeem this country from PF,” said Matambo.

Re-positioning The UPND Constitution For Morden Times

0

By Charles Kakoma,
Member of the National Management.

The United Party for National Development (UPND) Constitution was amended at the just ended General Assembly of the party. We have seen alot of debates surrounding the UPND Constitutional amendments. What really was amended?

Alot of research was conducted in coming up with amendments to the UPND Constitution. It was necessary to amend the party Constitution to reflect today’s Zambia. The underlying philosophy was to come up with a Constitution that will re-unite and rebuild the country. Re-uniting and rebuilding the country also became the theme for the General Assembly.

The party looked at the constitutions of various political parties in Zambia and other countries in order to come up with a constitution for UPND that will reposition the party to face the challenges facing the country today and in the future. We found the Constitution of the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa particularly inspiring. Being the oldest political party in Africa, born in 1912, we needed to learn something that has kept ANC together for such a long time. We drew heavily from the ANC model to come up with the UPND constitutional amendments. In the ANC model, many of the party executives get elected to a pool and thereafter are assigned to various portfolios. Apart from the president and a few people who are elected directly to some positions, everybody else gets elected to the pool.

The concept that was relevant to the UPND was ” election to the pool.” Therefore, apart from the UPND President who should be elected directly by the electoral college to the position of party president, everyone else wanting to be a member of the National Management Committee gets elected to the pool. After being elected to the pool, the winners can then be assigned positions in the National Management Committee.

The UPND Constitution, even before this year’s General Assembly, already provided for the election of members to the National Management Committee under Article 52 and 60. Due to misinterpretation in the past, some people were vying for specific positions in the National Management Committee. It became necessary to amend the Constitution to delete an article which referred to portfolios in the National Management Committee. These portfolios will now come under subsidiary regulations of the party rather than the party Constitution.

It was also necessary to amend the UPND Constitution to provide for only one vice president. In the past, the UPND Constitution provided for four vice presidents. These were vice president (administration), vice president (politics), vice president (economy) and vice president (gender). The position of vice president in charge of gender matters was never even occupied by anybody in the past. The existence of many vice presidents created unnecessary confusion among occupants of the positions as some of them thought that they were more senior than the other vice presidents. The chain of command was also difficult to follow as there were different centres of power.

The Constitution was also amended to include mayors and council chairpersons as delegates to the General Assembly. At the time the old UPND Constitution was formulated, the country did not have mayors and council chairpersons who were directly elected by the people. As people’s elected representatives in the local government system, it became necessary to amend the UPND Constitution to provide for the mayors and council chairpersons to be part of the electoral college at the General Assembly.

It also became necessary to amend the UPND Constitution to align it with the Republican Constitution in terms of values and principles of equality, gender representation, regional representation and non discrimination. In this regard, the UPND Constitution was amended to increase the number of women and youth in decision making positions in the party structures. For example, the member of vice women chairpersons was increased from two to three at provincial, district, constituency and ward levels to align it to the national level where the women chairperson is already deputised by three other women. Similarly, the constitution was amended to provide for more youth in the party structure as described above for women.

The constitution was also amended to give some powers to the president to nominate people to the National Management Committee to take care of any shortcomings arising from intra-party elections in terms of gender and regional representation as well as skills and persons living with disabilities.

All the Constitutional amendments were subjected to a vote at the General Assembly. For the Constitutional amendments to pass through, it required two thirds majority of all the delegates at the General Assembly. It actually took almost the whole day during the General Assembly to vote on the constitution. It partly explains why the General Assembly took long to conclude because the constitution had to be passed first before proceeding to elect members of the National Management Committee.

The final product is that the UPND now has a constitution that unites the party and the country. The UPND has now positioned itself to face the challenges of today’s Zambia.

BISHOP MWAMBA TO TAKE UP UNIP PRESIDENCY

BISHOP MWAMBA TO TAKE UP UNIP PRESIDENCY

Bishop Trevor Mwamba based in Botswana and Germany has returned home to take up the UNIP Presidency.

He says as a UNIP presidential hopeful he has observed that more than ever before, Zambia today need a leader who is not only a God fearing and a unifier but also reconciler who will bring a divided nation together.

Dr. Mwamba, a servicing Bishop from the Anglican Church and married to Spouse, Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba who is Botswana’s Ambassador to Germany, said in an interview that when he becomes president of the former ruling party the United National Independence Party (UNIP), he will not be inventing new values to unite the people but renew the already existing values which the forefathers used to unite and guide the nation to prosperity.

Bishop Mwamba said this coming Thursday, he will announce his intention to contest the position of the party president in the former ruling party at Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka and file his nominations on 7th March to contest the party presidency at the forthcoming UNIP General Conference.

Bishop Mwamba is motivated to contest the position of the party president out of his desire to renew the former ruling party which he believes given good and qualitative leadership, can form government in the coming elections billed on 12th August 2021.

Once elected into office, Bishop Mwamba said, the UNIP government will focus on values of integrity, empowerment, to improve the welfare of every Zambian. Policies will have the interests of Zambians at the centre of everything and build from there.

He observed what has nurtured the poverty the people are enduring today is failure by the leaders to embrace the values which the founding fathers left behind.

Bishop Mwamba said UNIP under the new leadership will not only be the conscience but also the light to the nation.

He said Zambia was founded on the values of love, sharing the available resources with one another equally.

He said it is disheartening to see people today in a country endowed with resources angonising in abject poverty.

He observed that when UNIP was in power, it not only succeeded in building a united state and provided for citizens with means of survival but also helped the neighbouring countries that were ravaged by internal instabilities without losing focus on its responsibilities.

It is the desire of Bishop Mwamba not only to bring back Zambia to its original values where citizens used to live as one but also share the resources equally without losing the focus.

He wants also bring the value of lost value of discipline and hard work for good economic growth and prosperity.

Dr Mwamba is inviting all progressive Zambians, especially the youth, to join forces with UNIP to recreate a Zambia that will be the beacon of hope and prosperity. Bishop Mwamba said his doors are open and looks forward to interacting with various stakeholders.”

Meet the Zimbabwean Prophet Who Needs Only A WhatsApp Picture To Diagnose & Cure Problems

A Victoria Falls-based prophet is making waves for his apparent ability to “diagnose” and minister to people over WhatsApp. Musawenkosi Vundla, who calls himself Thwasa Lodumo, says he only needs a picture sent over WhatsApp and the person’s full name to be able to diagnose their issues.

According to the local publication The Chronicle, after diagnosing the person’s issues, Vundla uses prayers and anointed water to fix their issues. He is a registered prophet through the Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe. musawenkosivundla_1444974614070151272586112997900252832986493n

Despite his Christian background, Vundla also uses traditional herbs in some cases although he is adamant that he is not a Sangoma or an Inyanga. He is currently in the process of registering with the Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (Zinatha).

Speaking to the Chronicle, Vundla said,

“I started as a prophet but a vision from my ancestral spirits appeared to me instructing me to also use herbs. This is different from traditional healing or inyanga. When a person comes to consult, I pray for them and if the solution needs traditional herbs I prescribe and administer them the same way I do with anointed water and iziwasho (concoctions used by prophets). Thwasa Lodumo doesn’t mean I am an inyanga, it’s just a trade name for people to identify me. All it means is that I use both traditional herbs and prophecy.

Outlining how he carries out consultations on WhatsApp and Facebook, the prophet said,

“One can send his or her name and surname or picture on WhatsApp and I use the information to establish their problems. I then explain my findings to the client and if he or she is happy that’s when I prescribe a solution. I use Facebook to do live prophecy and link up with clients but then revert to WhatsApp platform for consultation for purposes of privacy.musawenkosivundla_4479342622386276964190813881420777857220608n

“It works as long as the client follows instructions as explained. The challenge sometimes is network and data but I make sure I have enough data to be reachable all the time,”

Vundla who works from his base in Victoria Falls’ Chinotimba suburb and from his rural home in Sizinda says he has clients from all over the world.

“I have clients all over the world and these comprise Zimbabweans in the Diaspora and some foreigners who are mostly referred by those I have assisted before. So far I haven’t had complaints from any of my clients but have many who come back to express their gratitude,” he said.

The young prophet also said that he does not change anything for his services. Despite this, however, he has done well for himself, due to the benevolence of his satisfied clients.

“I get herbs locally but also travel to other parts of the country. That is when I ask a client to contribute towards transport fares so I can travel to get them the herbs. I had nothing when I started in 2014 but now I have built a nice home and bought cars from the benevolence of my clients. I have never been employed anywhere and at the same time, I have never clashed with any of my clients. I say this because I am grateful for the support they give me,” he said.
