CHITIMUKULU LEADS BEMBA CHIEFS IN VISITING CHILANGWA, CHITOTELA AT MUKOBEKO

CHITIMUKULU LEADS BEMBA CHIEFS IN VISITING CHILANGWA, CHITOTELA AT MUKOBEKO

Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people in the company of senior Bemba Chiefs Chikwanda and Luchembe Wednesday took a somber and emotional visit to Mukobeko Maximum Prison in Kabwe to see former Luapula Minister Nickson Chilangwa and his fellow convicted counterpart, Ronald Chitotela.

The visit, which had been preceded by several attempts to seek government approval, showed a powerful moment of solidarity for the two unfairly imprisoned leaders.

The traditional chiefs entered the prison gates with their faces down and in solemn silence.

Their hearts were heavy with both concern and prayer for their people, even in the face of their imprisonment.

At around 10:00 hours, the chiefs were escorted through the prison and led directly to the cells of Chilangwa and Chitotela, where they shared a cordial and  tightly monitored meeting.

According to sources prison authorities, police officers, and intelligence personnel kept a watchful eye, strictly controlling the timing and flow of the visit.

Chitimukulu addressed the two men with a message of faith and told them, “We have not stopped praying for you. We trust that, in His time, God will answer our prayers and deliver you from this.” These words carried the deep sadness of a father figure watching over his children in their darkest hour.

The atmosphere inside the prison was charged with raw emotion as Chilangwa and Chitotela, both visibly affected by their ordeal, shared their painful experiences with their chief.

The two former ministers spoke openly about the cruel conditions they had endured since their incarceration.

They described being subjected to physical and emotional abuse—humiliated, mocked, and stripped of their dignity by prison officers.

They lamented that despite their innocence, they had been treated as criminals.

Sources close to the meeting revealed that both men expressed their deep anguish over the brutality they faced daily. Chilangwa, his voice tinged with sorrow spoke of how he had continued to pray not only for his own freedom but also for those he believed were persecuting him.

“I am an innocent man suffering for no reason,” he confided to the Chitimukulu, his words filled with both grief and faith.

The Chitimukulu, visibly moved, shared in their pain, especially that the treatment of his “children” had been nothing short of unjust. The Chief seeing his people—men of honour and now subjected to such inhumane conditions was clearly unbearable for the revered chief.

As the visit drew to a close, the Bemba chiefs offered their support to Chilangwa and Chitotela.

Fube’s party will become an irrelevant joker’s club – NDC

Fube’s party will become an irrelevant joker’s club – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned personal attacks on President Hakainde Hichilema made by Zambia Must Prosper leader Kelvin Fube.

Fube recently appeared on TV where he accused President Hichilema of having destroyed the economy claiming that the President was greedy and stingy.

NDC spokesperson Emmanuel Malite said Fube was wrong to utter such sentiments against the Head of State.

Malite added that personal attacks on the presidency will soon make Fube’s political party “irrelevant” and be regarded as a “joker’s club.”

He noted that politicians like Fube who have gone the tribal and personal route have always ended their political careers on a bad note.

Malite advised his fellow opposition leader to focus on providing checks and balances on how the President is running the economy instead of going the personal way.

“It’s sad to see the whole of an opposition political party leader attacking the Republican President Hakainde Hichilema’s personality, describing him to be greedy and stingy instead of challenging him on how he is running the affairs of the country,” said Malite.

Malite shared that he had a lot of information on Fube that could end up ruining his political career but the NDC spokesperson said he remains silent because personal attacks won’t bring development to the nation.

“Please, bamudala, stay away from getting personal in politics. You have more to lose than HH because we know if disclosed, can be very damaging to your political career,” Malite warned.

“We all know why [Fube] left the UPND alliance, it was because of his mischievous deeds during the 2021 campaigns leading to the announcement of results. Those are the issues that caused him to lose trust from the president and miss out on being appointed in public office.”

The NDC spokesperson advised Fube to concentrate on building new political party objectives.

“Concentrate on building a new political party’ manifesto, outline what you will do better for the country because your colleague, the current President has shown tenacity towards developing this country despite the challenges, the worst drought this country has ever faced, Malite advised Fube.

He added that unlike Fube, whose development ends on his mouth, President Hichilema has managed the mining sector well, given an opportunity to every child to go to school for free and provided an economical road network which is being worked on across the country.

UPND HAS MISMANAGED THE AGRICULTURE SECTOR…. that is why the country is food insecure, says the Socialist Party

UPND HAS MISMANAGED THE AGRICULTURE SECTOR

…. that is why the country is food insecure, says the Socialist Party

Lusaka… Wednesday December 4, 2024

The opposition Socialist Party (SP) says the UPND government has mismanaged the agriculture sector leading to the country being food insecure.

SP Chief Presidential Advisor Brian Hapunda says up to now, farmers have not received the farming inputs making it difficult for them to produce the much needed food.

He said in some instances, the country has witnessed the supply of sub-standard fertiliser which he said is making it difficult for the small scale farmers to have good yields.

He also claimed that the agriculture sector has been marred with corruption in the supply of the inputs.

“Zambians are hungry today and as such there is no peace in people’s homes. We have seen how the current government has mismanaged the agriculture sector. Today it’s 4th of December, 2024 we traverse this country, we have just returned from Eastern Province where we have witnessed farmers as of yesterday they had not yet received the much needed fertiliser. How then does this government help in terms of coming up with food security? The story is almost the same in all the provinces. Luapula for example, our people are telling us that they have been left out from the FISP, where do you expect these people to mobilize the much needed fertiliser which is at K1000? This shows you how misplaced the UPND’S agriculture policies are and how we keep on having food insecurity in the country because of lack of priority by those in government today,” he said this when he featured on Hot FM Radio in Lusaka today.

“The SP in government will make sure that we invest adequately in the Agriculture sector and that 15% of the national budget come 2026 when we will be in government will go towards the agriculture sector. We will broaden the FISP Programme and bring many small scale farmers on board because we believe that these farmers are the ones who feed this country.”

Mr Hapunda emphasized that the  small scale farmers are the ones who produce the much needed millions of metric tonnes of food that the people consume hence the need to take care of them.

“We will prioritize agriculture sector and pay serious attention to this sector and receive the inputs on time. We will give the farmers a fair share of business in order for them to benefit after supplying their produce to the government through the FRA. We will give them a good floor price because we believe in having a food secure country,” he concluded.

KALULUSHI BROTHERS APPEAR IN COURT OVER ALLEGED INSULTS AGAINST PRESIDENT HICHILEMA

KALULUSHI BROTHERS APPEAR IN COURT OVER ALLEGED INSULTS AGAINST PRESIDENT HICHILEMA

Two youths from Kalulushi, Copperbelt, Ernest Kaumba, 22, and his elder brother Elijah Kaumba, 26, finally appeared in court yesterday, over a month after their arrest for allegedly insulting President Hakainde Hichilema online.

The brothers appeared before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court for plea, where they denied the charges. Allegations are that between August 1 and September 30 this year, through social media, the two Kaumbas used insulting language against Mr. Hichilema.

In the alleged insulting words, most of which are unpublishable, the accused also asked the President to resign, accusing him of having failed to govern.

After the charges were read out, the two youths pleaded not guilty before their lawyer, Makebi Zulu, raised issues over his client’s continued prolonged detention without police bond.

“From the date of arrest to this day, it’s about 61 days. They are being held in custody for a misdemeanor. The matter has delayed to be brought before court. They have the right to be brought to court promptly within 24 hours after an arrest,” the lawyer said.

State prosecutor Mutolo Sikanyika said the arresting officer was available to respond to assertions that police denied the accused persons bond.

Joseph Kapasa, a detective inspector at headquarters, informed Magistrate George Njobvu that the accused were never denied bond.

“They never applied for bond. There was an indication they did not have relatives to sign for them. I had asked if they wanted to be released on police bond,” Mr. Kapasa said.

Asked when he apprehended the duo, Mr. Kapasa said October 3, 2024, from Kalulushi.

“And you said you are stationed at police headquarters in Lusaka?” Mr. Makebi asked the officer, who replied affirmatively.

Asked if he traveled all the way from Lusaka to Kalulushi to arrest the accused, Mr. Kapasa said, “Yes.”

“Do you have police stations or police posts in Kalulushi?” Mr. Makebi asked the officer, who said yes.

Asked why he never communicated to police in Kalulushi to apprehend the accused, Mr. Kapasa said it was because the matter was reported from police headquarters in Lusaka by a Mr. Bill Kapinga.

Another defense lawyer, Jonas Zimba, asked Mr. Kapasa whether he had made it difficult for the accused to meet bond conditions since they were brought to Lusaka, where they do not have relatives.

In response, the police officer said no.

The defense then applied for bail pending trial, which the court granted in the sum of K5,000 with two credible sureties.

Mr. Zulu then applied that the matter be referred to the High Court for determination of constitutional issues bordering on freedom of expression.

“What is insulting language? No one can determine what provokes another person. Language is used for expressing oneself,” the lawyer submitted.

But Ms. Sikanyika urged the court to dismiss the frivolous application.

WE DIFFERED WITH THE MEMBERS OF THE TONSE ALLIANCE OVER RUSHING TO MAKE EDGAR LUNGU THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE -UKA

WE DIFFERED WITH THE MEMBERS OF THE TONSE ALLIANCE OVER RUSHING TO MAKE EDGAR LUNGU THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

We were of the view that the Alliance candidate should not immediately be exposed to the government machinery because they would target him, we also warned the idea of choosing Edgar Lungu before the conclusion of the eligibility case, reveals Sakwiba Sikota.

And Jackson Silavwe has accused Sean Tembo of misleading former President Edgar Lungu into the Tonse Alliance with the hope that when when Lungu is disqualified, he (Tembo) would be endorsed as the Presidential candidate by Lungu.

During the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) meeting on modalities to choose the Presidential candidate, the Alliance Council of Presidents warned against rushing to appoint a Presidential candidate because he/she could be an easy target of state machinery.

“Let’s not fall on the same trap others have fallen into of rushing to identify and appoint the Presidential candidate now. We basically still have two years before next election. We better put structures on the ground first. Those young people bena Tembo rushed into exposing President Lungu in the manner they did. Mr. Lungu still has eligibility issues to attend plus a lot of other court cases involving his family members. There will now be increased pressure on him which he won’t withstand. We could even have fronted someone else before switching to Mr. Lungu,” Sikota told the group.

And another UKA President Jackson Silavwe revealed that the real reason for Sean Tembo to rushing into appointing Mr. Lungu as Tonse Alliance Presidential candidate were selfish ones. He is really hoping the former President would be knocked out by the courts so he would be endorsed as the Presidential candidate.

“We used to have lengthy discussions with Sean Tembo on these issues and he was not even beating about the bush. He told me several times that bamudala Ba Lungu tabakaiminine mu 2026. But he truly believes that whoever would be endorsed and backed by ba Lungu would easily beat President Hichilema in an election. And he is sure when ba Lungu is declared ineligible by the courts, he would easily back him as part of the young generation to lead the country. I told him to reduce his ambitions because winning a Presidential election is not an easy thing. Those were some of the points of departure with our team”, revealed Silavwe.

A CRY FOR ACCOUNTABILITY

A CRY FOR ACCOUNTABILITY..

The untimely passing of the Bank of Zambia Governor’s wife has not only brought grief but also served as a moment of national reckoning. In the presence of President Hakainde Hichilema, the Governor issued an emotional indictment of Zambia’s leadership, stating…

“People are dying because we’re dipping our hands into money meant for healthcare.”

This heartfelt statement reflects the pain of millions of Zambians who rely on a collapsing healthcare system, a system crippled by corruption, mismanagement, and misplaced priorities under the current administration. It is a powerful call to action for the President and his government to address the glaring failures that continue to cost lives.

The healthcare sector remains underfunded, with critical shortages of medicines, inadequate staffing, and dilapidated infrastructure. Despite repeated promises, the Hichilema administration has failed to provide adequate resources or accountability.

Instead the little, funds intended for life saving services are being misappropriated, leaving vulnerable citizens to suffer the consequences. The Auditor General’s reports and public outcries have repeatedly highlighted these issues, yet meaningful action remains absent.

President Hichilema’s administration campaigned on the promise of fighting corruption. However, the reality suggests otherwise. As the Governor’s remarks confirm, even critical healthcare funds are siphoned off with impunity.

This highlights weak enforcement mechanisms to  institutions meant to safeguard public resources lacks independence to execute their duties and selective justice. The Anti-corruption efforts focus on only on high profile cases while the current systemic corruption persists and it goes unchecked.
Leadership is not about promises it is about results. The Governor’s plea underscores the human toll of governance failures.

When resources for healthcare are stolen, it is ordinary citizens especially the poor and marginalized who pay the price, often with their lives.
The lack of transparency and accountability in the Ministry of Health is a direct reflection of the government’s failure and misplaced priorities.

While speeches about development and progress dominate headlines, the reality is that Zambia’s citizens are dying from preventable causes due to the mismanagement of resources and poor governance.

President Hichilema must urgently respond to the crisis in the Ministry of Health if he has any conscience or genuine will to serve the Zambian people. A healthy nation is the foundation of economic stability and progress.

Without addressing the healthcare crisis, the President risks losing the trust of the very people who entrusted him with their votes. To restore faith and ensure a functional healthcare system, the President must take decisive action:

1. Accountability to allow the ACC to work independently, to curb misappropriation of healthcare funds and hold all involved accountable, regardless of political affiliation.

2. Strengthen Oversight marketing sure the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Auditor General’s office are working independently  and free from political interference.

3. Increase Healthcare funding allocate sufficient resources to revitalize healthcare infrastructure, ensure the availability of medicines.

4. To demonstrate Leadership, to give and inspire Public confidence to address the issues raised by the Governor and commit to specific timelines for reform in the healthcare sector.

In conclusion i would like to echo the statement from Governor’s emotional outburst as a wake up call. President Hichilema must recognize that the cries of a grieving husband and a suffering nation cannot go unanswered.

The time for rhetoric is over, the President’s legacy will not be defined by his promises and long speechs but by his actions.

Zambia deserves leadership that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens over political games. It is time for the President to step up, address the rot in the Ministry of Health, and prove that he has the conscience and the will to build a healthier, more prosperous nation.

A healthy nation is a productive nation. But the question remains, will President Hichilema rise to the occasion, or will he let history remember him as a leader who failed his people?

Who within the Zambia Police P is trying very hard to tarnish the name of Zambia in particular President Hichilema? – Dickson Jere

Dickson Jere writes….

The Kaumba Brothers
By Dickson Jere

I received a call from a longtime colleague working for the US-based Human Rights organization. He was profiling the case of the two brothers – Elijah and Ernest Kaumba – who had been detained by Zambia Police (ZP) for over 50 days without being taken to Court. The case of the two brothers, is likely to appear in organization’s Annual Report on the “deteriorating” human rights situation in Zambia. He was looking for government contact to hear their other side of story as to why these two boys were detained inordinately. To gravitate the matter, the two brothers were transported from their hometown of Kalulushi to Lusaka.

What did they do to deserve this harsh treatment? They allegedly produced a TikTok video “insulting” the President.

Here is my take on this matter and similar cases.

Who within the ZP is trying very hard to tarnish the name of Zambia in particular President Hakainde Hichilema? The President, from date of his inauguration, has made it clear and irrevocable that no one should be detained more than 48 hours when arrested. He has also made it clear that ZP should never arrest until when it has evidence and that culprits should be brought to Court within 48 hours or granted bond. This is a Presidential directive- which automatically becomes policy! So, who is tainting the President’s name within ZP?

You see, President Hakainde is one only President thus far who went ahead and repealed the law on defamation of the President. He did that knowingly that some rogues will defame while he carries out his duties of President. He scored international accolades for this but now all his good intentions being thrown away by overzealous ZP. But why?

Until this matter of the two brothers was brought to my attention, I didn’t know about the video. I am now looking for it and so are many other people. The ZP are now making that video has wide circulation and impact when it would have just died within few circles had they arrested and dealt with the boys right in Kalulushi. This is bringing negativity to yourselves when the President is supposed to be concentrating on dealing with pressing issues of the economy and not those who insults him. By why ZP?

Because of the mishandling of this matter, international Human Rights organizations, LAZ, Catholic Church and other civil society organizations have now joined in trying to help these two brothers. We are turning them into martyrs when in fact they were just rogues on TikTok.

I don’t know, maybe the President was not even aware of these kids being detained. I say so because it happened in my time in State House when a man was arrested, prosecuted and jailed in Ndola for “insulting” President Rupiah Banda. The President only came to know about this case when it was finally reported in newspapers. He was livid! He immediately ordered the unconditional release of the man and be given back his job at Zamtel – which he had lost by virtue of the conviction!
“If he cannot insult the President, who will he insult for his problems?” President Banda asked, adding that even in villages chiefs are insulted by subjects.

Sometimes we do things in the name of pleasing the President when in fact he has different position on the matter. ZP, please, do not taint the name of Zambia. Do not taint the name of the President who has given straightforward instructions on how to deal with suspects. I have never heard the President issue contrary position on this matter. He has been consistently consistent!

LATE NIGHT CALL FROM THE PRESIDENT

0

LATE NIGHT CALL FROM THE PRESIDENT.

We were trying to enjoy our sleep after some back-breaking work in our garden during the day when the shrill sound of my sikolokolo (cheap) handset drilled our ears. Who could be calling at such an awkward hour? I tried to ignore it. Now that we were half awake, the noise was even much louder. The phone wouldn’t stop ringing……it kept perforating our ears, annoyingly!
“Why don’t you answer your damn phone?” my wife snapped at me. “Suppose it’s something urgent….”

It was pitch dark. I languorously reached for my phone on the sideboard, careful not to open the mosquito net wide enough lest I inadvertently invited in a flurry of mosquitoes hovering around relishing to come in and feast on us! There was already one bothersome vampire in the net we were having a challenge ridding of. One moment, I’d literally be slapping myself hoping I had trapped it…. shortly, my wife would be doing the same and before we knew it, it was mockingly humming in our ears up in a corner where we couldn’t easily reach it.
“Hello….hello…” a familiar deep voice echoed in the mobile phone. “Abena Kopala, mulishani hmm? Ba Prince……”
Wait a minute……was I dreaming or hallucinating? I was dumbfounded……I was talking to the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema!

“Good evening boss…. Sir” I stammered….. clueless about the right choice of words when talking to such a dignitary. “Your Excellency…….”
The President went on to explain that his government was overly impressed with the work we were doing with street kids. He was desirous to find out what his administration could do to make the lives of children, unfortunate enough to find themselves eking a living on the streets, much better – away from perpetual begging or eating from the rubbish bins.

“First and foremost, Sir, these children need counselling and mentoring….” I was trembling, spasmodically. “As opposed to imposing ideas on them, we must start engaging them like our own children to find out what they really want to do with their lives. Your Excellency, you may be keen to learn that not all of them want to be plumbers or carpenters…. making coffins. They aspire to be like Yo Maps or Chanda na Kay of this world; they itch to take to the pitch and showcase their skills on the global stage like Barbra Banda; they envy to be seen cruising around as Yango drivers….”

He asked me to briefly pause to allow Levy Ngoma to record whatever I was saying.
“And the junkies….” he abruptly changed the topic. “What do you think my government must do about it to ameliorate their plight?”
“I was coming to that, Sir….” I exclaimed.

I observed that randomly rounding-them up and detaining them once in a while isn’t a practical solution….and neither is treating them with kid’s gloves. I prayed that authorities should consider taking the junkies to places like Chilubi Island far away from undue influence, and where they can’t easily be making daring escapes from time to time to go back to their way. I proposed that Gen. Solochi’s men and women in green uniforms can then take charge ‘panel beating them’….. nay straightening them up while imparting knowledge and vocational skills in them……I was whacking my brain trying to recall everything I had learnt about this segment of society over the years.
“Carry on please, we’re listening….” he encouraged.

I further submitted that most of the junkies are suffering from addiction of substances of one sort or another – ifinyelele (cough syrup), Chavuma water (highly potent alcoholic beverages) and of course, fwaka yachi Ngoni (marijuana).

“Once these people have been turned into useful citizens,” I was desperately trying to find the right words. “They can be out to work growing maize to feed our people or better still producing marijuana in large numbers for export purposes…..”
Suddenly, there was pin drop silence on the other end of the line. Did I say anything wrong to offend the head of state?
“Mr. President……Sir,” I bawled in the handset. “Are you still there, Your Excellency….Sir”
I became aware of my wife shaking my body at that particular moment.

“Stop competing with the dead and dreaming,” her soft voice rung in my ears. “It’s time for you to wake up and do some work….”
Say what! Readers won’t imagine the disappointment.
Until next time…..

ANDD TO ASSESS PROGRESS AT KCM UNDER VEDANTA MANAGEMENT

The Advocates for National Development and Democracy (ANDD) has announced that it will conduct a comprehensive study on the current state of Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) under the management of Vedanta Resources.

The research will specifically assess the progress at KCM since Vedanta Resources resumed operations at the mining site.

ANDD Executive Director Samuel Banda says the aim is to evaluate the extent to which the company has fulfilled its commitments to the Zambian people, particularly those made prior to resuming operations.

“It is important to remind Zambians, as indicated by Mr Masuzyo Ndhlovu  Vedanta Corporate Communications Director on several media platforms, Vedanta committed to investing US$1 billion into KCM for mining recapitalization and development, US$20 million for supporting corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, a one-time payment of K2500, and a 20% salary increase. Additionally, Vedanta pledged to increase production, create business and job opportunities for Zambians, and contribute to the country’s socio-economic growth,” he said.

“The key focus areas of the study will center on these investment commitments, with an emphasis on whether Vedanta Resources has adhered to its promises and obligations. ANDD, as an organization dedicated to advocating for sustainable socio-economic development and human rights in Zambia, seeks to assess whether Vedanta is fulfilling its mining obligations as agreed before resuming operations at KCM.”

Mr Banda further said his organization will examine Vedanta’s commitment to developing a Community Trust, which KCM is supposed to use to implement its CSR programs in the areas where the mine operates.

“The study will also assess whether this Community Trust is serving the interests and aspirations of the Copperbelt communities. Specifically, the organization will evaluate whether youths, church leaders, civil society organizations, and other community leaders have been included in the KCM Community Trust Board to foster development,” he added.

“The initiative is not intended to antagonize Vedanta but rather to promote transparency and foster a mutually beneficial partnership between the investor, the Zambian government, and local communities. We firmly believe that holding investors accountable to their commitments builds trust and ensures that the wealth generated from our natural resources translates into improved livelihoods for all Zambians.”

He indicated that the findings of the research will be shared with key stakeholders, including government authorities, community leaders, civil society organizations, and the media.

He further added that this will encourage informed decision-making and promote dialogue on improving KCM’s operations.

“This initiative is part of ANDD’s broader mission to advocate for inclusive development and responsible investment in Zambia’s mining sector. We are calling on all stakeholders to support this initiative and collaborate in transforming KCM into a model of sustainable development and accountability,” he concluded.

“By doing so, Zambia can ensure that its mining sector contributes meaningfully to the nation’s long-term prosperity.”

President Mnangagwa Assassination Attempt: Chinese Investigators Join Hunt for Suspects

President Mnangagwa Assassination Attempt: Chinese Investigators Join Hunt for Suspects

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has roped in Chinese investigators to solve the June 23, 2018 grenade attack that targeted President Emmerson Mnangagwa and other high-ranking officials during a Zanu PF rally at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.

Mnangagwa Assassination Attempt: Chinese Investigators Join Hunt
According to ZimLive, a team of detectives from Zimbabwe’s Criminal Investigations Department revisited the scene on November 27, accompanied by four Chinese investigators.

Their arrival caused a brief standoff with the City of Bulawayo’s security guards, who initially denied them access due to a lack of clearance from City Hall. However, the police team would not have any of it and barged their way through.

For nearly two hours, the Chinese team interviewed witnesses who were present during the explosion. A source told ZimLive:

“The four Chinese guys spent time interviewing people who were present on the day of the explosion. They also dutifully made drawings and took notes. They were there for about two hours.”

When reached for comment, National Police Spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi stated he was unaware of any Chinese investigators in the country.

A Case that Lingers
The attack, which occurred just six months into Mnangagwa’s presidency, has remained unsolved. In June 2023, Mnangagwa reportedly instructed police to expedite the investigation.

Initial findings suggest the grenade, identified as an offensive fragmentation device made in the former Soviet Union, is still used by Zimbabwe’s military. Early reports speculated the weapon may have come from the police’s armoury, but it was later confirmed that the ZRP had disposed of its grenade stockpile in the late 1980s.

Aftermath of the Bombing
The explosion struck just meters away from Mnangagwa and other VIPs as they exited the stadium, killing two aides of Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi. Mohadi sustained leg injuries and was treated in South Africa, along with several others, including Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri.

Days after the incident, Mnangagwa speculated in a BBC interview that loyalists of former President Robert Mugabe and his wife, Grace, might be behind the attack. He assured the public that arrests were imminent.

In August 2018, while addressing newly elected Zanu PF parliamentary candidates, Mnangagwa claimed authorities had identified those responsible, saying:

“We now have the knowledge on who did it. We want the current electoral processes to pass then we will deal with that matter.”

Miami female cop sues city for $1M, alleging chief’s harassment and demotion over her hairstyle

0

Adecorated Black female Miami cop is suing the city for $1 million, alleging harassment, racial discrimination and retaliation that she says derailed her career.

40-year-old Weslyne Lewis Francois, an 18-year veteran of the Miami Police Department, is accusing Chief of Police Manuel Morales of orchestrating a “campaign of racist and discriminatory actions” that led to her demotion.

Francois claims the harassment initially began in 2020 after she was promoted to commanding officer.

During that period, Morales criticized her natural hairstyle and required that she “tone it down”. It was the same time she was assigned to the predominantly white, affluent Coconut Grove community.

“It’s not just about my hair. This is about the systematic belittling of Black women in positions of power,” Francois said in her Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) complaint.

According to the lawsuit, Morales’ remarks initiated 290 days of hostility.

“Chief Morales was relentless on how my look was not acceptable,” Francois said. “His actions were aimed at undermining the identities of Black women, reinforcing a narrative of superiority that positioned them as lesser individuals.”

Francois served in the U.S. Army before she joined the police force and quickly rose through the ranks to become commander.

Her leadership in Coconut Grove earned lots of praise, including a 2021 profile by a local business group.

Despite the recognition she received over the years, Morales allegedly used her hairstyle as a means to question her professionalism, and he compared it to another Black officer’s shorter cut, implying that it was “too ethnic.”

“What began as comments about her hairstyle then escalated into retaliatory actions,” Francois’ attorney, Michael Pizzi, told the Miami Herald.

Francois also claimed that while she was on vacation, he assigned her the impossible task of organizing a Veterans Day honor guard with less than a 24-hour notice.

Though she completed the task, Francois was informed that the “chief was not happy”, and soon after, her honor guard duties were reassigned.

The lawsuit also mentions public humiliation, baseless evaluations and retaliation from Morales to the black female Miami cop.

Morales allegedly berated Francois in front of colleagues and often questioned her professionalism.

She was also reprimanded for failing to respond to an incident while injured, which is a standard not applied to her male colleagues.

Francois’ supervisor, Major Umberto Ramos, allegedly kept close tabs on her, seeking negative feedback, and it raised concerns about systemic racism.

He is also accused of using the N-word to refer to a Black car crash victim.

According to reports, Assistant Chief Thomas Carroll acknowledged the unfair treatment and said to Francois, “We know what this is about… You know he is not going to stop.”

The decorated black female Miami cop was demoted to lieutenant in 2022 and her appeals to City Manager Art Noriega also went unanswered.

Francois is now seeking $1 million in damages and a jury trial, alleging the city failed to address a hostile work environment and violated anti-discrimination laws.

The City of Miami has however denied the allegations. “The City looks forward to its day in court,” a spokesperson said. Chief Morales has not commented publicly.

Many are eyeing how the situation unfolds in days to come, believing that Francois deserved better.

Belgian court rules against state in a landmark case addressing its colonial past

0

A Brussels appeals court ruled on Monday that the Belgian state committed a crime against humanity in the case of five mixed-race women who were taken away from their Black mothers in infancy in a landmark case addressing the nation’s colonial past in Africa.

The five women fought a legal battle over some six years to make Belgium recognize responsibility for the suffering of thousands of mixed-race children. Known as “métis,” the children were snatched away from their families and placed in religious institutions and homes by Belgian authorities that ruled Congo from 1908 to 1960.

A lower court had first dismissed their challenge in 2021 but they appealed.

“It is deliverance for my mother now that she finally has closure,” said Monique Fernandes, the daughter of Monique Bintu Bingi, one of the five plaintiffs. “She finally has it recognized as crime against humanity,” Fernandes told The Associated Press.

The initial ruling had said that the policy, even if unacceptable, was not “part of a generalized or systematic policy, deliberately destructive, which characterizes a crime against humanity” and had to be seen within its context of European colonialism.

Monday’s decision also orders the state to pay damages of some 50,000 euros to each of the plaintiffs and Fernandes said it would help cover all the costs involved. “We did not want to go for a moral symbolic euro since it would amount to some sort of insult after everything my mother went through,” she said.

The five women, who are now in their 70s and 80s, filed their lawsuit in 2020 amid growing demands for Belgium to reassess its colonial past in Congo, Rwanda and Burundi.

In the wake of protests against racial inequality in the United States, several statues of former King Leopold II, who is blamed for the deaths of millions of Africans during Belgium’s colonial rule, have been vandalized in Belgium, and some have been removed.

In 2019, the Belgian government apologized for the state’s role in taking thousands of babies from their African mothers. And for the first time in the country’s history, a reigning king expressed regret four years ago for the violence carried out by the former colonial power.

Lawyers said the five plaintiffs were all between the ages of 2 and 4 when they were taken away at the request of the Belgian colonial administration, in cooperation with local Catholic Church authorities.

According to legal documents, in all five cases, the fathers did not exercise parental authority, and the Belgian administration threatened the girls’ Congolese families with reprisals if they refused to let them go.

According to the lawyers, the Belgian state’s strategy was aimed at preventing interracial unions and isolating métis children, known as the “children of shame,” to make sure they would not claim a link with Belgium later in their lives.

“The story always was: look, we have done so much good in Congo. But there is also such a dark history,” said Fernandes.

Nicki Minaj Reclaims Highest-Selling Female Rapper Crown From Doja Cat

Nicki Minaj has reclaimed the throne for highest-selling female rapper of the year from Doja Cat for 2024.

While there is still one month to go, Chart Data revealed on November 30 that Minaj has thus far out-sold her fellow women in rap this year. Behind her at No. 2 is Doja, and Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla and Sexyy Red round out the top five.

Last year, Minaj and Doja were in reverse positions, while Meg remained at No. 3, Cardi B held down the No. 4 spot and Ice Spice was at No. 5.

Doja was relatively quiet for 2024, with the exception of dropping a deluxe edition of her 2023 Scarlet album ahead of her headlining Coachella performance in the spring. She’s kept a low profile since and has even been off of social media for the most part, but she recently teased a “new era” and will likely return with a new project in 2025.

Conversely, Nicki Minaj toured a majority of the year and released a sprinkle of music, most recent of which is a 10th anniversary celebration of The Pinkprint that features a number of bonus tracks, including a posthumous Juice WRLD feature.

She’ll close out the year with a deluxe edition of her chart-topping 2023 album, Pink Friday 2 – and will seemingly be taking a break afterward as she’s named the deluxe, Pink Friday 2 – The Hiatus.

The effort will arrive on December 13.

Minaj told fans on her Stationhead radio show after the final show on her Pink Friday 2 World Tour in October: “I am doing a hiatus. But I have the Vogue thing, which I’m very proud and honored to do, and a couple things and then I’ll be taking a little moment to reflect.”

But once her fan pages began reporting the break, she swiftly shut the reports down.

“Ain’t going no mthfkn where. Kiss my ass & HIATUS,” she wrote with laughing emojis. “LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. We don’t announce the hiatus Barbz. Crack is whack. We don’t do that. Dem love chat dem no run dem block! Just relax & let what will be…be dramatic cinematic music begins

R Kelly Reveals Massive Streaming Income Despite Being Locked Up

R Kelly is one of the most disgraced figures in modern music. The R&B superstar was found guilty of federal racketeering and sex trafficking involving sexual abuse of minors in 2019. He’s been behind bars ever since. He’s been unable to record new music since being locked up, but his bank account suggests that he doesn’t have to. R Kelly paid off a massive federal judgement on November 29. One that would’ve been impossible to satisfy were it not for the fact that he still earns a healthy income from his old music.

R Kelly paid a $520,549.90 federal judgment that was connected to his criminal convictions. The judgement was formally announced on December 7, 2022, and broke down into sizable chunks. R Kelly was ordered to pay $379,649.90 in restitution, in addition to a $100,000 fine, a $40,000 assessment from the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act, and a special assessment for $900. A bit over $520K in total, which Kelly managed to satisfy in one massive payment. It may seem odd to consider the fact that the Pied Piper of R&B is still pulling in thousands of dollars, but it’s true.

Lifetime aired the three-part docuseries Surviving R Kelly in 2019. The series detailed the allegations against the singer in gruesome detail. It also featured firsthand accounts from Kelly’s alleged victims. It’s the sort of expose that ends careers, and it did, to an extent. R Kelly has not released new music since the docuseries aired. That said, the singer’s old catalog experience a massive boost in streaming after Surviving R Kelly took the culture by storm. Billboard reported that Kelly’s old music earned 4.3 million on-demand streams in the U.S. This represented a 116% jump from the week before documentary aired.

Songs like “Ignition (Remix),” “Bump N’ Grind,” and “Same Girl” saw massive boosts in terms of Spotify streams. “Same Girl,” for example, increased by 126% following Surviving R Kelly’s final episode. Interest has waned somewhat in the five years since the docuseries premiered. Regardless, Kel’s music remains beloved by many. He continues to earn sizable incomes from various streaming platforms, and will likely continue to do so for the duration of his prison sentence.

Snoop Dogg reveals he gave daughter Cori a $1M wedding gift but she ‘never got to open it’

Snoop Dogg is going all out for his daughter Cori Broadus’s upcoming wedding. The rapper revealed his extravagant gift for Cori, who is set to marry fiancé Wayne Duece. Snoop described it as the most lavish present he’s ever given his youngest child.

“It’s the truth, but the only thing about this gift is she never got to open it, or she hasn’t opened it yet,” he shared during a December 2 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “It was a million dollars for her wedding.”

Snoop jokingly added to host Jennifer Hudson, “But, Jen, I told her if it was me, my wedding would have been $100 and $900 would have gone in my pocket.”

Broadus’s wedding was temporarily postponed due to a stroke she suffered earlier this year.

However, her wedding planning journey with Wayne, along with their relationship challenges, will be featured in a new E! special titled “Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story.”

Despite the trailer hinting at challenges for the young couple, Snoop has always believed Wayne is the right man for his daughter Cori.

“I know he’s the one,” the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” musician gushed. “As a father, you know. I’m gonna speak for him because, as a father, one thing you know is when it’s your baby girl, you ain’t gonna hand her off to nobody who ain’t gonna handle her with care.”

The 53-year-old rapper admitted he often sides with Wayne over Cori when they face relationship issues.

“He’s always in the right,” Snoop noted. “If anything, I gotta talk to her about, ‘Hey, let off of him a little bit. Back up!’”

Cori shared that growing up with hip-hop icon Snoop as her dad involved a surprisingly down-to-earth parenting style.

“I think the best thing is he’s just so supportive,” she gushed during their joint TV appearance. “Sometimes I’m like, ‘Wait, this is my dad?’ He’s such this legend, but he’s always there for me and shows me everything that I need to know in life.”

Snoop has been married to Shante Broadus since 1997, and they have three children together — sons Corde, 30, and Cordell, 27, along with daughter Cori. Snoop also has another son named Julian, 26, from a previous relationship.

Diddy’s Son King Combs Reportedly Hit With Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Diddy‘s son King Combs has reportedly been officially served with a lawsuit by the woman who accused him of sexual assault earlier this year.

According to a report from In Touch on Monday (December 2), King (real name Christian Combs) was served at his father’s Miami mansion for a rape alleged to have occurred during a “hedonistic” yacht party in 2022.

The lawsuit was filed by Grace O’Marcaigh in April, using the same lawyer who represents producer Lil Rod in a similar suit filed against Diddy in February. King Combs is accused of assault, battery, sexual assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

O’Marcaigh says she worked as a stewardess in the yachting industry since 2018 with plans to make it a lifelong career – but that Combs has since ruined her plans.

According to her suit, Combs joined his father on a yacht he’d chartered, where O’Marcaigh was working. While she says it was “sold as a wholesome family excursion,” it turned into “a hedonistic environment” with tons of people she believes were sex workers.

“It resulted in an unexpected increase in workload for her and her colleagues as well as unwanted exposure to unlawful drug use, sex work, and general chaos,” the suit reads.

Regarding the incident, O’Marcaigh says Combs took an interest in her during one shift, which she “considered very inappropriate.” He allegedly pressured her to drink with him, then “violently grabbed [Grace’s] arm and began hurting her. He pulled [Grace] to the seat beside him and prevented her from getting up.”

She alleges she asked to leave but he denied her request and instead made her take more shots – which she “quickly suspected” were spiked. He allegedly cornered her in a room and showed her his erection, but she was able to escape after someone else walked in.

The suit continues: “In addition to losing her employment, [Grace] also lost her longtime partner, with whom she had planned a future. [Grace’s] partner was never the same after seeing [Grace’s] bruises on her body because of [Christian’s] sexual assault and having to deal with the mental and emotional ramifications, so they separated.”

“[Grace’s] mental health deteriorated to the point that she was medicated and required intensive therapy. Additionally, she fell into a deep depression and was unable to fully carry out her maid of honor duties at the wedding of her only sister in June 2023, which she had been looking forward to doing for over eighteen months.”

At the time of the filing in April, both King Combs and Diddy’s lawyer Aaron Dyer responded with a statement that focused largely on the alleged victim’s lawyer:

“This is just another lewd and meritless claim from Tyrone Blackburn — just like what he filed in the Rodney Jones lawsuit, which he still has not served. This complaint is filled with the same kind of manufactured lies and irrelevant facts we’ve come to expect from Blackburn. This is exactly why the federal judge in New York slapped him two days ago for a ‘pattern of behavior’ in ‘improperly [filing] cases in federal court to garner media attention, embarrass defendants with salacious allegations, and pressure defendants to settle quickly,’ and why he was referred to the disciplinary committee in the Southern District of New York. We will be filing a motion to dismiss this outrageous claim.”

LeBron’s SpringHill company lost almost $30M in 2023 and has never posted a profit

Oftentimes when the name LeBron James is mentioned, it is associated with success, be it on the court or off the court. For 11 years running, he has maintained his spot as the NBA’s highest-paid player, making $48.7 million on the court and $80 million annually from endorsements, licensing, memorabilia, and other business endeavors, according to Forbes.

His total of $128.7 million (before taxes and agent fees) is the highest in the 15-year history of Forbes’ NBA ranking. He made $124.5 million from 2022-23.

In July this year, James re-signed with the Lakers on a two-year, $104 million deal and recently made league history as the first father to play alongside his son. Off the court, Forbes said he has added partnerships with The SpringHill Company, DraftKings, Fanatics, and Hennessy and invested in the golf tour’s new commercial arm, PGA Tour Enterprises.

However, it has not been all rosy for the billionaire NBA player. SpringHill, the media company he co-founded with Maverick Carter, is reportedly grappling with significant financial losses and may end the year in the red, Bloomberg reported on Sunday, citing financial documents obtained by the publication.

According to Bloomberg, the company has never posted a profit since it launched in 2020. It lost nearly $30 million in 2023, marking its most challenging year to date. A year prior, the company lost $17 million and has never made money, according to Bloomberg.

“The entertainment market shift in 2022/2023 toward profitability brought rising costs, slower buyer decisions, and impacts from industry strikes, prompting us to recalibrate, including writing off underperforming projects to position ourselves for future growth,” Carter, who operates as the chief executive officer of SpringHill, said via email.

The company came into existence a few years ago to meet the demand of the growing streaming industry. It has produced several TV shows like Survivor’s Remorse and The Wall and movies like The Shop, Hustle, and Space Jam: A New Legacy. James assisted the company to raise $15 million from Warner Bros. in 2015. Similarly, he aided the company to raise $100 million from investors including Guggenheim Partners and News Corp. heir Elisabeth Murdoch in 2020.

Amid its struggles, the company has agreed to a merger with Fulwell 73, the British production outfit behind “The Kardashians” and the Grammy Awards, according to a report by Nypost. The deal will give the combined firms more scale during a difficult business environment, the report added.

Meet Anita Okunde who just became the first Black woman Oxford Union president

Anita Okunde is the first Black woman to be Oxford Union President. At just 20 years old, she is an acclaimed activist, I Will Ambassador, and public speaker, with a focus on intersectional climate justice and feminism, according to her bio by Centre For Young Lives.

Currently, Okunde is studying philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE) at Oxford University. She shared her excitement on X about being elected to such a prestigious office in what she described as “the most elite” institute, stating, “President-elect and a proud state school president built, not bought, a dying breed! It has been an honor, and I cannot wait to serve as your president. All the glory be to God honestly, John 15:7.”

Before the election, she shared her vision for the Union with Cherwell, indicating her intent to address the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles and on term cards while providing adequate provisions for individuals with disabilities and other protected characteristics.

She said, “I believe that strengthening the Union’s financial position is essential to funding initiatives that would open the doors to a more diverse range of students and make them feel truly welcome. In the past, I’ve organised women-focused events, such as professional headshot sessions and social gatherings. While these have been impactful, with additional resources we could dramatically improve the scale and quality of these initiatives.”

She further elaborated on her personal connection to the Oxford Union, noting, “My dad, who didn’t finish secondary school, uses the Oxford Union debates to understand English and the British accent. So, having my paper speech be part of that has always been something that I take quite a lot of personal pride in.”

In the election, Okunde triumphed, securing the position of union president for Trinity Term 2024 with 564 first preferences, winning by a narrow margin of 44 votes against her opponent, Siddhant Nagrath.

The Nigerian-born visionary has been recognized as one of the top 100 environmentalists by Forbes for her dedication to empowering young people, particularly students, and for her role as the youth commissioner for the Well-being of Future Generations Bill advancing through Parliament.

Her leadership experience includes a 20-month role as treasurer of the Oxford Union and a five-month stint as the director of media. Between December 2023 and April 2024, she served as the socioeconomic officer and was also an elected member of the Secretary’s committee for seven months.

Bishop T.D. Jakes In Peace And Tranquility After Emergency Surgery

After suffering a medical emergency last week, Bishop T.D. Jakes has gone public about his health.

In a video message to members of his church, he said he had undergone an “emergency surgery” and asked his followers to praise God as they were not planning “a funeral.”

“Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle…I faced a life-threatening calamity, was rushed to the ICU unit, had emergency surgery, and survived the surgery,” he stated in the video, thanking his followers and God for being alive.

“I’m grateful to God for his goodness and his mercy, and to not just our local church, but to the global community that follows this ministry,” the preacher stated.

Jakes added that he was taking time to rest and recover, per doctor’s orders, but did not provide details about his diagnosis.

“I’m in good spirits…I feel good, I’m in no pain, I’m in peace and tranquillity, and I want you to know that I can feel your prayers.”

“A special thank you to God and the medical professionals in our city whose speed and expertise were beyond exceptional,” he said.

Last week, his daughter, Sarah Jakes, provided an update on her father’s health after the preacher reportedly experienced a health emergency during his sermon on Sunday, November 24.

Reports indicate he was delivering a sermon at The Potter’s House Church in Dallas when his body started shaking suddenly, with many people rushing to help him.

Some videos went viral with people speculating that he may have had a stroke. However, Bishop Jakes’ has said in a social media post that her father was recovering well.

“…Obviously today could have been a tragic day. But it wasn’t by the mercy of God, by the grace of God. Bishop is doing well. He’s recovering well. He’s under medical care. He’s strong.

“…I’m so grateful that he’s already beginning to improve and I think it’s just a reminder even going into this holiday season week to love the people who you hold near and dear and just take the time to be grateful for all the people God’s given you,” she wrote.

Potter’s House also released a statement confirming that Bishop Jakes was stable after his “slight health incident” and was under the care of health professionals.

Eminem’s mother Debbie Nelson d!es at 69

Debbie Nelson, the mother of rapper Eminem, has d!ed at the age of 69.

A rep for Eminem confirmed that Nelson d!ed in the evening on Monday, Dec. 2, in St. Joseph, Missouri, from complications related to lung cancer.

News of her illness was first reported by multiple outlets in September.

Nelson was 16 when she married Eminem’s father, Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. Two years later, she welcomed the “Lose Yourself” rapper in 1972.

Eminem, 52, and his mother Debbie Nelson had a rocky relationship throughout his life. He apparently called her out in his 2002 song “Cleanin’ Out My Closet,” which led to Nelson suing her son for $11 million for defamation.

While the judge ruled in her favor, Nelson was only granted $25,000 of the $11 million dollars she asked for. Ultimately, she was only entitled to about $1,600 after lawyer fees.

Nelson considered reconciling with Eminem in a 2008 interview with The Village Voice.

“There’s hope for everybody,” she said at the time. “It’s a matter of just basically swallowing your pride. It’s like a cashed check. It’s over, it’s done. You need to move on.”

In 2013 when the rapper released “Headlights,” fans speculated that it was his apologizing to Nelson.

“And I’m mad I didn’t get the chance to thank you for being my mom and my dad,” he sings in one part of the song. “So Mom, please accept this as a tribute I wrote on this jet.”

As for Debbie Nelson, she celebrated her son from afar in recent years. When he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, she congratulated him online.

“Marshall, I want to say, I could not let this day go by without congratulating you on your induction into the Hall of Fame,” she said in a since-deleted video.

“I love you very much. I knew you’d get there. It’s been a long ride,” added Nelson at the time. “I’m very, very proud of you.”

Eminem’s estranged father died in 2019 at 67.

Along with Eminem, Debbie Nelson is survived by son Nathan Mathers.

Model k!lls husband, takes own life after as feared he would divorce her

The former New York City model who fatally sh0t her husband in Florida before taking her own life feared he would divorce her after she confessed to cheating on him.

Authorities said they received a ShotSpotter alert around 12.30 am last week Wednesday about multiple gunsh0ts fired on South Ocean Drive’s 1800 block.

At one of the condos at the Beach Club II Hallandale, located at 1830 South Ocean Drive, officers discovered a man and woman who seemed to have been shot. They were both declared deceased at the site.

The deceased, according to the police, are Pajtim Krasniqi, 34, and his wife, Sabrina Krasniqi, 27.

“It has been established by the inquiry that Sabrina Krasniqi shot her husband many times before k!lling herself. Police stated in a news release on Friday that the event took place in their joint home.

Grieving sibling of the husband, Arben “Benny” Krasniqi of Scarsdale told the New York Post that the family saw several red flags about Sabrina Krasniqi, 27, who shot Arben’s younger brother, Pajtim, five times on the oceanfront balcony of their lavish Hallandale Beach home.

“We saw plenty of signs, and now everything makes sense,” the Westchester County resident said. “But they were in love, and never in a million years did we think something like this could happen.

“There was infidelity on her part,” the 43-year-old man said of his sister-in-law.

“She came to a point of guilt or something that she just could not take. My brother wanted a divorce, and she didn’t take that lightly. And she decided to take her own life and, somewhere along the line, she decided to take my brother’s life.”

Benny said his brother, who grew up in the Bronx, was a hard-working, white-collar day trader who dabbled in real estate and cryptocurrency — “He was a genius. We’re all just trying to cope.”

“My mother’s devastated. We’ve lost someone who is so genuine, who is so loving, who is so intelligent and hardworking, and just irreplaceable — and it has left the entire family devastated.

“My brother was full of life. He was full of ambition. He was full of love. And that’s all been taken away from us by a selfish act of one person. One more selfish act from [Sabrina], and [she took] my brother along with her.”

In 2021, while still in New York City, Sabrina, who also went by her maiden name Sabrina Dzaferovic, was a model who featured in a TV Inside Edition segment.

Don’t Rule Man United Out Of Premier League Title Race – Arteta

0

Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta has revealed that Manchester United are still in the race to win the Premier League title despite their poor start to the season.

The Red Devils are 15 points behind leaders Liverpool, and four points off the Champions League spots after 13 matches.

Ruben Amorim replaced Erik Ten Hag in November after the team struggled for form, and consistency.

The Portuguese manager has won two out of his three matches in charge, and he will be hoping to continue his unbeaten start to life against Arsenal on Wednesday.

The Gunners will welcome Manchester United to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night as they bid to continue their recent resurgence after winning their last three matches in all competitions, scoring 13 goals.

Arteta believes Manchester United are still in the mix for the Premier League title race.

He said: “It’s still very early in the season any team that has the capacity to put five or six wins in a row is going to be up there because it’s so tough and you see every week how all the teams are struggling to maintain winning, winning and winning. So I think anything is possible.

Arteta revealed that Amorim’s imprint is already showing in the team just weeks after he replaced Ten Hag.

He said: “You can see his fingerprints in what he wants to do straight away, I think he’s been very clear, he’s been very successful with Sporting.

“He brings energy to a new club and to the players new ideas and that’s always something positive but we have to focus on what we have to do.”

The Gunners are nine points behind table-toppers Liverpool, while Manchester United occupy the ninth position with 19 points from 13 games.

Billionaire Cyril Ramaphosa gets a pay rise

Parliament on Tuesday approved a salary increase for President Cyril Ramaphosa despite opposition from his ardent critics, the EFF and MK Party.

This after ANC chief whip Mdumiseni Ntuli tabled a draft motion in response to the recommendation made by the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers in May.

Ramaphosa has not had a salary increase since he became the president in 2018.

The commission had recommended a 3% annual increase for the 2023-24 financial year and a 2.5% increase for 2024-25 for all office bearers, including Ramaphosa.

It had agreed that an adjustment for cost of living increase be recommended for 2023-24 and 2024-25, and stated that covering the period will prevent the continuation of the time lag on the current remuneration.

“The commission has considered the fiscal condition of the State demonstrated in the previous financial years, that is 2022-23, the State’s wage bill, the impact of public office bearers’ salary increment on the fiscus, previous President’s determination and general economic stats of the country.”

In his motion, Ntuli said the National Assembly should determine the salary payable to the President as reflected in the government gazette containing the Independent Commission for Remuneration of Public Office Bearers’ annual remuneration recommendations and further determine that the amount of R120 000 per annum as that portion of the remuneration of Ramaphosa shall apply.

MK Party chief whip Mzwanele Manyi said it was naive for the commission to “approve” the salary increment for Ramaphosa.

“This recommendation along with Ramaphosa’s likely acceptance raises serious concerns about ethical leadership and insensitivity to struggles of ordinary South Africans,” Manyi said.

He claimed that civil servants were denied a salary increase and faced retrenchment amid cost-containment measures. Approving the salary increase is an insult to the nation.”

Manyi said the public was asked to sacrifice, yet leaders of the government with personal wealth stood to gain further from public funds.

“The MK Party rejects this salary adjustment in the strongest terms. It is betrayal of the public trust and an affront to millions of South Africans who queue for a mere R350,” he said.

EFF’s Natasha Ntlangwini said Ramaphosa as a billionaire did not deserve a salary increase because taxpayers took care of his well-being.

She accused the President of failing to grow the economy and refused inflation adjusted salaries for civil servants and continuation of the R350 grants, among other things.

ActionSA parliamentary leader Athol Trollip said the motion should have been based on performance if government was a corporate body.

Trollip said the country’s performance in GDP not suitable to give anybody an increase.

However, he threw his weight behind the salary increment.

“We support it because it is below the inflation,” he said before calling for consistency on all public office if there was a view some should not get a salary increase.

In his response, Ntuli agreed with Trollip that the salary increase was below the inflation rate.

“That makes it reasonable,” he said. Ntuli also said the recommendation, not an approval, was made by an independent commission.

“We are supporting this as, firstly, it is below inflation,” he said adding that Ramaphosa has not had an increment since he took office.

All other parties in the Government of National Unity – DA, IFP, Freedom Front Plus, Patriotic Alliance, UDM, Rise Mzansi, BOSA, and PAC – supported the motion.

When National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza asked if there were objection, only the MK Party, the EFF and UAT raised objections.

“I don’t see any other hands, and therefore, the motion is agreed to,” Didiza said.

Footballer Marc Guehi’s dad blasts the FA for punishing his son for writing ‘I love Jesus’ on LGBT rainbow armband

0

The father of England star, Marc Guehi has slammed the FA after his son was reprimanded for writing ‘I love Jesus’ on his LGBT captain’s armband.

Guehi faces being formally reprimanded after breaching rules that ban any ‘political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images’ on players’ armbands when playing for Crystal Palace.

But his Church minister father has accused the FA of double standards after a Muslim player who refused to wear the armband was not punished and claimed they are pandering to the demands of the LGBT community over Christians.

The 24-year-old defender was seen with the handwritten slogan during the 1-1 draw against Newcastle on Saturday while fellow Premier League skipper Ipswich Town’s Sam Morsy refused to wear the pride armband due to religious beliefs but escaped sanction.

Now Guehi’s church minister father John has fueled the row.

He told MailOnline: ‘I am saying did he offend anyone? I don’t think so. I do believe in what the Bible says, Jesus loves everyone, and, in my opinion, Marc did not offend anyone with what he wrote.

‘Jesus loved everyone therefore by saying ‘I love Jesus’ on his armband I really don’t see what is offensive and what the problem is.

‘If you look at what the LGBT community are doing, they are trying to impose on others what they believe in, it’s belief against belief, but at the end of the day everyone has the right to an opinion.

‘But if that opinion’s aim is to offend you then there is a problem but if my opinion is just to express what I feel then I think that is fine and I don’t think what Marc wrote on that armband is offensive.

‘He is talking about him, he loves Jesus and like I said he didn’t refuse to wear that armband, like Morsy, people should pay more attention to the person who refused to wear it.

‘Marc said ‘Yes’ and did the right thing by wearing it but people are having a go at him for what he wrote, he accepted to wear the armband, he was just trying to balance the message.

‘He was saying’ You gave me the armband, as a Christian I don’t believe in your cause, but I will put it on’ but Morsy didn’t put it on because he said it was against his religion but more seems to be being said about Marc than him.

‘We are so thick skinned in this country, God is everywhere in this country, and I know things change because of different beliefs but it is still a Christian country. Therefore, I don’t see what is offensive.

‘He is a devout Christian; the son of a church minister and he accepted to put the arm band on to welcome everyone in football but the problem we have now is that players are being used as spokespeople now.’

And he blasted the decision to reprimand his son, saying: ‘The FA are happy for the crowd to sing God Save The King when England plays which mentions God and religion.

‘And they are happy to have the religious hymn Abide With Me during the cup final and yet they have a go at my son for expressing his beliefs.

Where is the sense in that? What exactly has he done wrong?

‘This country is a Christian country, and we are reminded of that when we go into public building that have the royal court of arms which has the words Dieu et mon droit (God and my right).

‘I back my son for what he did, he’s my son and of course I stand with him. I don’t see anything wrong in the message that was on his armband, do you? I haven’t had a chance to speak with him yet about it.

‘I am a church minister and a devout Christian and so is Marc, he didn’t refuse to wear the rainbow arm band so where is the problem? Morsy refused to wear the armband, but my son didn’t, he wore it.

‘I don’t know fully what’s going on because I haven’t spoken to Marc and so we don’t know but I don’t think it’s fair he should be singled out just for showing his religious beliefs.’

Mr Guehi added:’ Like I said I am a church minister, and I will always support my son in whatever he does. I had to drive him all over the country when he started playing football and I will always support him.’

Kendrick Lamar would beat Lil Wayne in a rap beef – Charlamagne tha god

Rap star, Kendrick Lamar would destroy his senior colleague, Lil Wayne if the two rap titans were to engage in lyrical battle, according to popular American radio host, Charlamagne Tha God.

While Wayne and Kendrick collaborated on Tha Carter V cut “Mona Lisa,” tension has been brewing between Kendrick and Wayne in recent months after Kendrick was announced as the headliner of the Super Bowl halftime show in Weezy’s hometown of New Orleans next year.

As the temperature has continued to rise following the release of Kendrick’s latest album GNX, Charlamagne mulled over the outcome of a possible feud between the pgLang and Young Money leaders.

Speaking on The Breakfast Club on Monday (December 2), the radio personality said: “Listen, Lil Wayne is a top five MC of all time. He don’t want no problems with Kendrick right now.

“And the reason he don’t want no problem with Kendrick right now is because emotionally, mentally and spiritually, Lil Wayne is not on the level to get at Kendrick, ‘cause Kendrick would break down Lil Wayne’s whole life in a very therapeutic way [laughs].”

He added: “It’s not even gonna be a diss; it’s gonna be out of love. He’s gonna break down how Wayne ushered in the era of the fiends — ’cause he did. He’s gonna talk about a lot of Wayne’s trauma’s. How Wayne’s only got three dreadlocks. It would be a lot of pressure coming from Kendrick.”

Lil Wayne recently appeared to threaten beef with Kendrick Lamar after he namedropped him on GNX.

The rap legend wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.”

The comment was in response to Kendrick referencing Wayne and the Super Bowl controversy on his album opener “wacced out murals.”

“Used to bump ‘Tha Carter 3,’ I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down / Whatever, though, call me crazy, everybody questionable/ Turn me to an Eskimo, I drew the line and decimals,” he rapped.

He later wrote: “Won the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me/ All these n-ggas agitated, I’m just glad they showed they faces/ Quite frankly, plenty artists but they outdated/ Old-ass flows, tryna convince me that you they favorite/ This is not for lyricists, I swear it’s not the sentiments/ Fuck a double entendre, I want y’all to feel this shit.”

Wayne previously made it known how disappointed he was not to be selected to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl to be held in his home town, New Orleans, saying the snub “hurt” him and left him “broken.”

Saudi Arabia has put over 300 people to de@th in 2024

0

Saudi Arabia has put over 300 people to de@th in 2024, according to an AFP tally, after four executions announced on Tuesday, December 3, brought the kingdom’s total to an all-high level.

The de@th penalty was carried out against three people convicted of drug smuggling and another for murder, the official Saudi Press Agency reported, citing the interior ministry.

It brings the total number of executions for the year to 303, according to the tally based on state media reports.

The Gulf monarchy had enacted the de@th penalty 200 times by the end of September, according to the same tally of official data, indicating a rapid rate of executions in recent weeks.

Saudi Arabia executed the third-highest number of prisoners in the world in 2023 after China and Iran, according to Amnesty International.

Previously the record number of executions in a single year in the country had stood at 196 in 2022, said the London-based human rights group, which began recording the annual figures in 1990.

Taha al-Hajji, legal director of the Berlin-based European Saudi Organisation for Human Rights (ESOHR), condemned the ‘rocket speed’ of executions in 2024, calling it ‘incomprehensible and inexplicable’.

The Kingdom has also been criticised for cracking down on free speech after Saudi artist Mohammed al-Hazza, 48, was recently sentenced to more than two decades in prison over political cartoons that allegedly insulted the Gulf kingdom’s leadership.

Under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi judiciary in the past two years has ‘convicted and handed down lengthy prison terms on dozens of individuals for their expression on social media’, human rights groups Amnesty International and ALQST said in April.

Saudi officials say the accused committed terrorism-related offences.

‘The case of Mohammed al-Hazza is one example of the suppression of freedom of expression in Saudi Arabia, which has not spared anyone, including artists,’ Sanad operations manager Samer Alshumrani told AFP.

‘This is supported by the politicised, non-independent judiciary in Saudi Arabia.’

Al-Hazza’s sentence came days after Saudi Arabia was denied a seat on the UN’s Human Rights Council in October.

Women in Afghanistan will no longer be allowed to attend nursing and midwifery classes

0

Women in Afghanistan will no longer be allowed to attend nursing and midwifery classes following an edict issued by the Taliban’s supreme leader, according to senior employees at institutions offering these courses.

Health officials conveyed the directive during a meeting with institute directors in Kabul on Monday, December 2, a public health ministry official told AFP. The official, who was not authorised to speak publicly, said, “There is no official letter, but the directors of institutes were informed in a meeting that women and girls can’t study anymore in their institutes. They were not provided with any details and justification and were just told of the order of the supreme leader and were asked to implement it.”

The ruling, which lacks formal documentation, has caused confusion among educational institutions. While some managers sought clarity from the health ministry, others have continued operations as usual, pending a written directive.

The ban marks another devastating blow to women’s education in Afghanistan, which has been increasingly restricted since the Taliban returned to power in 2021. Girls have already been barred from secondary schools and universities, forcing many to pursue health-related studies as one of the few remaining educational options.

Women now account for the majority of students in Afghanistan’s health institutes, which include 10 public and over 150 private institutions offering two-year diplomas in fields such as midwifery, anaesthesia, pharmacy, and dentistry. These institutes collectively serve around 35,000 women students.

Institute managers expressed concerns about the impact of the ban. “What are we supposed to do with just 10 percent of our students?” one manager questioned.

Aysha, a 28-year-old midwifery teacher in Kabul, said she was told by her institute’s management not to report to work until further notice. “This is a big shock for us. Psychologically, we are shaken. This was the only source of hope for the girls and women who were banned from universities,” she said.

The United Kingdom’s charge d’affaires called the reports “deeply concerning,” stating on social media that the decision represents “another affront to women’s right to education” and would further restrict healthcare access for Afghan women and children.

The ban is expected to exacerbate the country’s already critical shortage of medical and para-medical professionals. “We are already short of professional medical and para-medical staff, and this would result in further shortages,” the health ministry source warned. The Taliban’s actions continue to draw widespread condemnation as they deepen what the United Nations has termed “gender apartheid.”

CSO’s CALL FOR CYBER, TERRORISM BILLS WITHDRAWAL, CITING THREATS TO HUMAN RIGHTS, DEMOCRACY

CSO’s CALL FOR CYBER, TERRORISM BILLS WITHDRAWAL, CITING THREATS TO HUMAN RIGHTS, DEMOCRACY

A COALITION of civil society organisations have  expressed deep concern over the Cyber Security, Cyber Crimes, and Anti-Terrorism Bills currently before Parliament and are calling on government to withdraw these Bills and subject them to broader consultation and review.

The organisations include; Alliance for Community Action, Transparency International – Zambia, Council of Churches in Zambia, Bloggers of Zambia, Zambia Council for Social Development, PANOS Institute Southern Africa and Media Institute of Southern Africa Zambia (MISA).

The organisations argue that while the government’s intention to enhance national security is understandable, the proposed legislation poses significant threats to fundamental human rights and democratic governance.

They shared that these bills will affect the future of the people’s freedoms, privacy, and ability to speak out.

In a joint statement signed by Chapter One Foundation executive director Josiah Kalala, the civil society groups highlighted several provisions within the Bills that could potentially infringe upon constitutional rights.

“An analysis of these bills reveal several provisions that, if enacted, would not only fail constitutionality tests by their very text but also pose significant risks to fundamental human rights by their application,” Kalala said.

The CSOs expressed their disappointment in the UPND administration, which they believe came into power on promises of strengthening democracy and human rights.

“Regrettably, the approach taken with these bills reflects a troubling continuity of practices that were heavily criticised under the PF administration. The rushed and non-inclusive process mirrors the PF’s push for similar legislation, which was rightly condemned for its disregard for transparency and public participation,” Kalala said.

He added that the enactment of the Cyber Crimes and Cyber Security Bills under the pretext of addressing critical issues while at the same time having provisions that undermine human rights sets a dangerous precedent.

Kalala stated that Zambia deserved better than recycled authoritarian practices disguised as
progressive security reforms.

The CSOs called on Members of Parliament to fulfil their duty to the Zambian people.

“We call on MPs to write to the Speaker to establish a Tribunal as provided for under Article 27 of the Constitution to independently assess the implications of these bills.”

“Such an assessmentis critical to ensure that any legislative action reflects constitutional values and does not erode our hard-won freedoms,” Kalala explained.

The Civil Society rallied the citizens to read the bills and voice out any lacunae.

“To the citizens of Zambia, this is your fight as much as ours. It is our family, our friends, neighbours and community members who continue to be detained for long periods, often away from their communities for expressing displeasure and discontent with the government.”

“These bills will shape the future of your freedoms, your privacy, and your
ability to speak out. We urge you to read the proposed legislation and make your voices heard,” read the statement.

The CSOs urged citizens to call their MPs, demand accountability, and remind them that their mandate comes from them.

“Let them know that laws protecting Zambia’s security must also protect Zambia’s democracy and rights,” shared Kalala.

The Illogical Implementation of Live Broadcasts by the UPND Government- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

The Illogical Implementation of Live Broadcasts by the UPND Government

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

I recently came across a press release from Thabo Kawana, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information, announcing that the government has implemented live broadcasts of court proceedings to promote justice. For those unfamiliar with Kawana, this is the same individual who, in a leaked audio recording, was allegedly heard coercing Hon. JJ Banda to exonerate his alleged abductors—Clayson Hamasaka, Trevor Mwiinde, and Levy Ngoma—in exchange for his freedom. This controversial background raises serious questions about the sincerity of the government’s latest move.

The decision to start broadcasting court proceedings, beginning with the judgment of the eligibility case of former President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, scheduled for December 10th, is illogical and appears politically motivated.

A Misguided Approach to Transparency

If the UPND government’s intent is to promote justice, why begin live broadcasts at the judgment stage of Dr. Lungu’s case? Transparency is about allowing the public to witness the entire judicial process, from the arguments and evidence presented to the deliberations leading to the decision. Starting at the conclusion of such a high-profile case is counterproductive and raises doubts about the authenticity of this initiative.

This piecemeal approach not only fails to achieve true transparency but also risks distorting public perception. Justice must not only be done, but it must also be seen to be done in its entirety. Broadcasting just the final judgment denies Zambians the opportunity to assess the process and understand how the decision was reached.

Who Defines ‘Public Interest’?

The government’s claim that live broadcasts will be reserved for cases of public interest is also problematic. What criteria will be used to determine which cases qualify as “public interest”? The lack of clarity leaves room for selective application, undermining the credibility of the policy.

For instance, the recent gold scandal at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, involving individuals linked to the UPND government, was undeniably a matter of public interest. However, this case was handled behind closed doors, shielded from public scrutiny. When this case occurred, it attracted public attention, and citizens wanted to follow it to the end, only to be told it would be handled privately. The question that begs an answer is: why? Is it because certain individuals linked to the President were mentioned?

Coming back to this policy, the fact that we do not know the criteria that will be used to determine which cases are of public interest means this selective approach creates the perception that the policy will be used as a political weapon, targeting opponents while protecting allies. Genuine transparency cannot exist under such biased conditions.

Mockery of Justice

By selectively applying live broadcasts, the government risks turning the justice system into a tool for political theater. Zambians deserve an impartial and consistent judicial system, free from the influence of partisan politics. Broadcasting some cases while shielding others undermines trust in the judiciary and fuels skepticism about the government’s intentions.

Transparency cannot be a half-measure. A selective approach not only erodes confidence in the justice system but also disrespects the Zambian people, who deserve fairness and impartiality in all matters of public interest.

A Call for Genuine Transparency

If the UPND government is serious about promoting justice, it must apply the live broadcast policy consistently and impartially. This means televising proceedings from the very beginning, not just at the judgment stage. Additionally, there must be clear and transparent criteria for determining which cases qualify as being of public interest.

Without these safeguards, the policy will continue to be seen as a tool for political expediency rather than a genuine effort to enhance accountability. Zambians deserve more than symbolic gestures and political theatrics; they deserve a government that is genuinely committed to upholding justice and transparency.

Conclusion

The UPND government’s selective and ill-timed implementation of live broadcasts undermines its credibility and the integrity of the judiciary. The use of Dr. Lungu’s case as a “test” for transparency feels more like a political spectacle than a genuine reform. The involvement of individuals like Thabo Kawana, whose past actions have raised questions about his commitment to justice, only deepens these suspicions.

Zambians are not fooled by this facade. If the government wants to rebuild trust and demonstrate its commitment to justice, it must abandon its selective approach and embrace genuine transparency for all cases of public interest. Anything less is an insult to the intelligence of the Zambian people and a betrayal of democratic principles.

President Hichilema’s Corruption Fight: A Smokescreen of Deception- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

President Hichilema’s Corruption Fight: A Smokescreen of Deception

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

When President Hakainde Hichilema took office, he vowed to wage an unrelenting war against corruption, promising Zambians an era of accountability, transparency, and good governance. His rhetoric was bold, inspiring trust and raising hopes for a cleaner government. Yet, nearly halfway through his term, it has become evident that this “fight against corruption” is little more than smoke and mirrors.

A Campaign of Selective Persecution

The so-called anti-corruption crusade appears to be a thinly veiled witch hunt targeting former Patriotic Front (PF) officials. While rooting out corruption is imperative, the one-sided nature of these efforts suggests political vendettas rather than a sincere commitment to justice.

Meanwhile, allegations of corruption involving United Party for National Development (UPND) officials have been swept under the rug. Insider deals, questionable contracts, and nepotism are whispered about daily, yet no meaningful investigations have been launched. Is this crusade truly about justice, or is it a weapon to silence opponents and solidify power?

Turning a Blind Eye to Rot Within

Despite widespread accusations of misconduct under his own administration, President Hichilema has remained disturbingly silent. Examples of unaddressed corruption abound:

1. The Auditor General’s Report
The Auditor General has flagged numerous cases of financial mismanagement within UPND-led ministries. Millions of kwacha intended for essential public services have been misappropriated. These funds could have supported education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. Yet, no significant action has been taken. Where is the President’s accountability to the Zambian people?

2. Dubious Road Contracts and Toll Gate Deals
Contracts for major road projects, such as the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway, have been awarded under questionable circumstances. Toll gates have been handed over to private investors like Macro Ocean Investment Consortium without transparency. These investors have failed to raise their own funds, instead relying on loans from institutions like NAPSA and Stanbic Bank—resources that belong to the Zambian people.

3. Overpriced Fertilizer Procurement
Scandals surrounding fertilizer procurement have exposed a network of well-connected insiders profiting at the expense of taxpayers. Fertilizer meant to support farmers and boost food production has become another avenue for profiteering. Who is protecting these individuals, and why is there no accountability?

4. Scandal at the Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Education scandal involves Joel Kamoko, the Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, who paid K3.6 million without following proper procedures. He did not adhere to tender processes or obtain clearance from the Attorney General for the purchase of an educational software tool. Kamoko directed all public and private schools to deposit K800 each into M-SAT’s account for the procurement, with government schools expected to contribute over K8.5 million. The purchase was not part of any approved annual procurement plan, violating the Public Procurement Act and Regulations. This raises concerns of mismanagement and possible criminality.

5. 61 Containers of Medical Supplies Hoarded
In a shocking revelation, 61 containers of essential medical supplies were found stored at a private residence instead of being distributed to hospitals in dire need. These containers contained medicine and equipment meant for public hospitals facing critical shortages. Despite public outrage, the perpetrators remain untouched.

6. Ambulance Procurement Fiasco
Only 11 out of 156 emergency ambulances, which were procured under dubious contracts, have been delivered.

7. The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) Report
The latest FIC report details illicit financial flows, unexplained wealth accumulation, and rampant misuse of public funds under the current administration. Certain government officials have been flagged for suspicious transactions amounting to millions of dollars. Yet, there has been no serious attempt to follow up or prosecute offenders.

8. Questionable Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs)
Beyond the Lusaka-Ndola road, several PPP agreements have raised red flags. Projects lack transparency, with agreements heavily favoring private investors while exposing the government to financial risks. The lack of public consultation or independent oversight has fueled suspicions of corruption.

Where Are the Structural Reforms?

Fighting corruption demands more than words—it requires systemic change. Strengthening institutions, ensuring the independence of anti-corruption agencies, and upholding judicial impartiality are essential steps that remain ignored.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC): The ACC has become a political tool, focusing disproportionately on opposition figures while ignoring corruption within the ruling party. Its credibility is in tatters. Without a neutral, independent body to investigate and prosecute corrupt activities, Zambia will continue to fall prey to political favoritism and selective justice.

Judicial Independence: The judiciary’s susceptibility to political interference makes a mockery of justice. Without an independent judiciary, true accountability is impossible. Political influence over the courts undermines the very foundation of the rule of law.

Weak Procurement Systems: Loopholes in public procurement processes continue to enable corruption. Proper digitalization, oversight, and transparency mechanisms are overdue. The absence of rigorous checks and balances in procurement processes makes it all too easy for corrupt officials to channel funds into their pockets while public services suffer.

The Heavy Cost of Inaction

President Hichilema’s empty promises are costing Zambians dearly. Public funds are vanishing into private pockets, vital infrastructure remains neglected, and trust in government has eroded. The cost of corruption is felt in failing healthcare systems, crumbling schools, and an economy weighed down by mismanagement.

What Zambians see today is not a war on corruption but a theater of deceit—a hollow performance designed to distract from the real issues plaguing the nation. The economic ramifications of corruption are profound, with critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure suffering from chronic underfunding.

A Plea for Real Leadership

Mr. President, your war on corruption is an illusion. The Zambian people are tired of waiting for real action. They deserve a leader who confronts corruption at all levels—not just in the opposition, but within their own party as well.

If you are truly committed to rooting out corruption, start by cleaning your own house. Empower institutions to operate independently, strengthen transparency mechanisms, and hold your officials accountable.

Restore the trust you promised. Without genuine reforms, your presidency risks being defined by inaction and betrayal.

Zambians deserve better. The time for excuses is over.

Lionel Richie: Fans Shocked After Discovering Age Gap Between Singer And His Girlfriend

Fans have raised eyebrows about the surprising age gap between top performer Lionel Richie and his girlfriend.

They are said to have been dating for some time and were last spotted together in May this year, according to sources.

The couple is said to have a stable relationship despite the age difference. The All Night Long singer is 74, and his girlfriend, Lisa Parigi, is 34.

Both partners reportedly spent a casual night in Los Angeles. Richie wore a black shirt and jacket, while his lady wore a white crop top, a denim jacket, and other accessories.

“I love Lionel, but the age gap here is grotesque,” a fan wrote in a resurfaced image of the lovers. Another added: “40-year age difference; you’ve got to be joking. I don’t care who the man is, that’s just repulsive. Wasting her youth in hopes for some dollar bills. Disgusting.”

“He was 40 years old when she was born. Amazing,” another user posted. Another person was worried that the lady “doesn’t care that he is old enough to be her grandpa.”

Lisa Parigi, according to reports, is originally from Switzerland and used to work at a tech company before meeting Richie.

Richie, with an estimated net worth of $200 million, is also said to have been married two times and had three children from those relationships.

The legendary performer is scheduled to release his memoir in September 2025, focusing on aspects of life and his musical journey.

The title of the book has not been revealed, but the publishers, HarperOne, describe it as an “intimate, deeply candid memoir.”

According to the release issued by the publishers in October, the book seeks to “inspire all who doubt themselves or feel their dreams don’t matter.”

It was expected to highlight lessons the musician learned over the years to become a superstar performer.

“Lionel Richie is not only a music legend who has long been a multicultural and generational bridge, he has witnessed monumental shifts in history and entertainment while working with some of the most significant talents of our age,” Judith Curr, President, and Publisher of HarperOne Group, was quoted in the release.

“We are thrilled to not only be providing his fans and friends with a nuanced, detailed, emotional telling of what his life has held, but his view of the world…what has changed and what has remained the same, the difficulties and the causes for celebration,” she added.

In addition to his divorce experience and the death of his father, the biography would highlight Lionel Richie’s days at the university and his experiences as a member of the music group The Commodores, up to the day he went solo and set his career on a new path.

Jennifer Hudson Says Common Is ‘Bossy’ When It Comes To Making Music

Even though Jennifer Hudson and Common are gradually becoming one of the delightful black couples of Hollywood, their love story has always come as a surprise to many.

Following speculation about them being an item, Common confirmed their relationship on Hudson’s talk show in January.

“I’m in a relationship… with one of the most beautiful people I ever met in life,” Common said on the talk show earlier this year. “She’s smart; she loves God; she has something real down-to-earth about her; she’s talented.”

This relationship is a happy place for me,” the rapper added. “Seeing her happy actually makes me really happy. So, I’m very grateful. I thank God each and every day, and I’m just letting God guide this relationship.”

Just as in any other individual’s relationship and while their chemistry is undeniable.

Jennifer admitted that there were some challenges when the two musical geniuses were working together in the studio.

She made the revelation during her recent appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

During the conversation, Jennifer shared her insight about making music with Common.

She stated: “I mean, we’re both very musical,” Hudson said. “Two Chicagoans and I were like, ‘Where’s the poetry and the storytelling in the holiday albums?’ And who better to do it than him? To do, like, spoken-word poetry for the holidays? And so that’s where the song came from.”

“He’s a bit bossy when it comes to being Common,” the Oscar winner explained.

She explained that Common and Rashid are two different people musically.

He’s a musical genius, so it’s an honor to be able to learn from him, work for him, work with him, and on his album and my album,” she continued.

In this short period, Jennifer and Common have worked on several projects. Along with the “Almost Christmas” track on Jennifer Hudson’s The Gift of Love album, Hudson and Common appeared on “A GOD (There Is)” from Common and Pete Rock’s album The Auditorium Vol. 1.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Common has also shared how much he enjoyed working with Jennifer Hudson.

He recalled: “When I played it to musician friends, they were like, ‘Who is that singing?’ I’m like, ‘That’s Jennifer.”

“It doesn’t sound like things you’ve heard from her before,” he said. “I love that we were able to utilize her gifts in a new space. She brought it, man.”

LL COOL J Say He’s “The Most Important Rapper That Ever Existed”

LL Cool J is unquestionably one of the greatest rappers in hip-hop history, having been given the now-iconic abbreviation G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time).

But this legendary rapper has a bold perspective on the Goat team.

The Goat conversations have been among the most important components of the lifeblood of hip-hop, and they trace back to one of the culture’s most impactful and pioneering careers.

However, in recent times, the Goat conversations have gained a new level of popularity and have been a yardstick for some recent industry beefs.

Even though LL Cool J recognizes the term’s cultural significance, he does not consider himself to be the unquestioned best in rap.

Instead, he thinks that he is one of the most significant rappers in history, which is an even more meaningful title.

LL Cool J recently made an appearance on Apple Music’s Le Code to argue why he’s the most important rapper in the genre’s history.

In the conversation, the legendary rapper reflected on his legacy with both humility and conviction.

He began by stating: “I’ma say this humbly, but I really mean this.”

“One day, people are going to realize that LL Cool J is the most important rapper that ever existed. I truly believe that one day people are going to say that. They’re gonna say when it comes to Fubu, ‘Yo, this guy introduced the whole idea of putting clothing lines”.

His confidence stems from the groundbreaking contributions he’s made across music, fashion, and entertainment.

LL Cool J continues by saying, “When it comes to endorsements, ‘Oh, this is the guy who made Kangol and made the Kangol popular before people even did that.

When they talk about television, they gon’ say, ‘Oh, this is the guy who did incredible stuff on TV and at the same time was still making incredible records.’

It wasn’t just doing TV and using rap as a launch pad. When it comes to business… I could go on and on and on and on.”

LL Cool J has always referred to himself as the Goat in his music.

In his album G.O.A.T. featuring James T. Smith: The Greatest of All Time, LL insists his claims were part of the competitive spirit of hip-hop.

On the mic, I’ll say I’m the best. That’s what MCs do,” he said.

“But outside of that, there are so many rappers who’ve done extraordinary things. I’d never claim to be the one above all.”

LL was Def Jam’s first official artist and the first solo rapper to achieve global superstardom.

For LL Cool J, his legacy isn’t about overshadowing others. It’s about being a trailblazer who changed hip-hop’s course and opened doors for the generations that followed.

Despite his accomplishments, LL Cool J remains humble about the subjective nature of greatness in hip-hop.
