Drake Resumes Taking Shots At Kendrick Lamar After ‘GNX’ Release

Drake has wasted little time throwing more shots at Kendrick Lamar after the Compton superstar released his latest album GNX.

Appearing on a Kick livestream with Canadian streamer xQc this past weekend, Drizzy introduced himself by saying: “I’m here — mind, body and soul fully intact, in case you were wondering. You need facts to take me out; fairytales won’t do it.”

The defiant remark is a clear reference to claims in Kendrick’s various diss tracks about Drake behaving inappropriately with young girls, keeping the company of sexual predators and fathering a secret daughter.

While Kendrick did not directly mention Drake on his new album, he did allude to their beef.

On GNX‘s opening track “wacced out murals,” he rapped: “N-ggas from my city couldn’t entertain old boy / Promisin’ bank transactions and even bitcoin / I never peaced it up, that shit don’t sit well with me / Before I take a truce, I’ll take ’em to Hell with me.”

He also referenced Drizzy’s controversial diss song “Taylor Made Freestyle” and Snoop Dogg‘s apparent support of it: “Snoop posted ‘Taylor Made,’ I prayed it was the edibles / I couldn’t believe it, it was only right for me to let it go.”

Tha Doggfather responded to the line soon after by joking on X (formerly Twitter): “K dot new album GNX [explosion emoji] [fire emojis] It was the edibles [facepalm emoji] [grinning face emoji] [fist bump emoji] west west king.”

While Drake did not make further mention of Kendrick Lamar during his livestream with xQc, he did take time to throw shade at fellow friend-turned-foe The Weeknd.

After xQc began playing the singer’s 2016 hit “Starboy,” Drizzy said: “You’ve gotta switch this song, though. You have to switch this one. We’re the real Sixers, the real 6ix side. We don’t listen to that.”

The former collaborators’ long-simmering feud reignited earlier this year when The Weeknd seemingly took aim at Drake on Future and Metro Boomin’s We Still Don’t Trust You album.

The OVO Sound founder fired back on “Push Ups” and “Family Matters,” spitting on the latter: “Still mad about that one ho, we ain’t even fuck, I just lip-locked with her” and “Weeknd music gettin’ played in all the spots where boys got a little more pride.”

Paris hosts Pan-African conference opposing neo-colonial policy

On November 23, 2024, Paris hosted a pan-African conference called “Brisons les chaînes! “focused on the fight against neocolonialism. Participants discussed the historical and contemporary forms of neo-colonial dependence of African countries, with a particular focus on the policies of European Union member states, notably France.

Speakers included influential figures such as Mireille Liliane Saki, municipal councillor and president of CFIACI, who spoke of “the importance of returning land to the indigenous people”, and of “UNESCO’s current situation of land kleptomania”.

François Passéma Endjiago, president of the ( Comité d’Action pour la Conquête de la Démocratie en Centrafrique) , also said “the colonial crimes perpetrated by the West and their consequences are devastating for Africa”.

Tony Gilbert Moudilou, President of AEDRA, affirmed that “democracy in Africa must be restored to break the shackles of the past”.

Saïd Larifou, a Franco-Comorian politician, also said “we need social justice to bring peace to our continent, there’s no other choice”, while Ramzu Yunus, an Afro-descendant pan-Africanist from the USA, announced “solidarity is the only way for us to have a free future, we don’t want to be slaves forever”.

Guy Ballester, President of the Pyrenees Association, says “African states are freeing themselves from international dictatorship, and they need to put an end to the CFA franc.
So if African states are to free themselves from neo-colonialism, we need to stop deep state assassinations and coups d’état, and have a sovereign monetary policy”.

Amina Bouatlaoui, a retired teacher, spoke of the “monstrous damage left by colonization, which remains to this day, calling for an awakening of consciences to get the African continent out of this difficult situation”.

Mawete Makisosila, writer and anthropologist, highlighted and said that “the imaginary combat in which we are engaged, affirming that the current democracy is destructive”.
Discussions focused on crucial themes such as the slave trade, colonial subjugation and the prospects for African Renaissance. Participants agreed that real change must come from Africans themselves.

Mila Gallais, a writer present at the event, shared her experience in Africa, saying “we are shocked because of the high rate of corruption and inequality here I call for respect for African sovereignty and hope for a better future on the continent.

Best-selling novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford dies

Author Barbara Taylor Bradford, known for best-selling novels including A Woman of Substance, has died at the age of 91.

Published in 1979, A Woman of Substance sold 30 million copies and spawned seven sequels and a TV adaptation, which is still the most-watched programme in Channel 4’s history.

It was the first of 40 novels by Taylor Bradford; others includ the Ravenscar, Cavendon and the House of Falconer series.

Paying tribute, her publisher and editor Lynne Drew said: “Dominating the bestseller lists, she broke new ground with her sweeping epic novels spanning generations, novels which were resolutely not romances, and she epitomised the woman of substance she created, particularly with her ruthless work ethic.”

The author was “perennially curious, interested in everyone and extraordinarily driven”, Drew said, and was “an inspiration for millions of readers and countless writers”.

Charlie Redmayne, chief executive of publisher HarperCollins, said: “Barbara Taylor Bradford was a truly exceptional writer whose first book, the international bestseller A Woman of Substance, changed the lives of so many who read it – and still does to this day.”

She was “a natural storyteller” as well as “a great, great friend”, he added.

A Woman of Substance was the rags-to-riches tale of Emma Harte, a young woman who goes from a being a maid to building and running a major department store.

The mini-series was watched by almost 14 million people on Channel 4 in 1985 and was nominated for two Emmy Awards.

Emma was played by Jenny Seagrove, who paid tribute to the author as a “dear friend”.

Seagrove recalled meeting Taylor Bradford as a young and nervous actress.

“The door opens and all I can say is that a powerhouse of glamour and warmth heads towards me, grabs me, hugs me, and says… ‘You are my Emma Harte’.

“And that was the start of a long friendship with the force of nature that I am proud to call my friend.”

They “talked about everything under the sun”, Seagrove said, adding: “She never changed. Success never diluted her warmth and humour or her ability to relate to everyone she met, whether a cleaner or a princess.

“She never, ever forgot that she was just a girl from Yorkshire that worked hard and made good. RIP dear friend.”

A statement from Taylor Bradford’s representative on Monday said she “died peacefully at her home yesterday (24 November 2024) following a short illness, and was surrounded by loved ones to the very end”.

Broke the mould

Taylor Bradford was born in Leeds, where her mother “force-fed me books”, and young Barbara had her first story published at the age of 10 in a children’s magazine.

She left school at 15 to work as a typist and copytaker on the Yorkshire Evening Post, and got her first stories into the newspaper’s pages by surreptitiously slipping them into the sub-editor’s tray.

It took the editors some time to realise what she was doing, but they then promoted her to be a journalist, and she was the paper’s only female reporter at the time.

Her first books were about home design – beginning with the Complete Encyclopaedia of Homemaking Ideas in 1968 – and she wrote a string of entries in the How to be the Perfect Wife series.

Her first foray into fiction, when she was in her mid-40s, brought huge success and broke the mould.

“When I wrote A Woman of Substance I didn’t sit down and think, I’m going to write about a woman warrior who conquers the world and smashes the glass ceiling, but I did want to write about women in a positive way,” she told the Guardian in 2017.

“At the time there were a lot of very sexy books out there but the women didn’t come out of them very well.”

As well as A Woman of Substance, a number of her other books were turned into TV or film adaptations by her husband, Hollywood producer Robert Bradford. He died in 2019.

She was made an OBE for services to literature by Queen Elizabeth in 2007, and was also an ambassador for the National Literacy Trust.

In its tribute, the charity hailed her as “a passionate advocate for improving literacy skills throughout her life”, and said she “helped change lives in some of the UK’s most disadvantaged communities”.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA IS DESECRATING TRADITIONAL CEREMONIES BY TURNING THEM INTO UPND RALLIES

Lusaka- Monday, 25th November 2024

We have observed with deep concerns how a clear pattern has emerged that President Hakainde Hichilema has quickly turned noble traditional and cultural events and ceremonies, into public rallies and meetings for the United Party for National Development (UPND).

This is visibly demonstrated  by political  activities that have taken place at all traditional ceremonies that President Hichilema has recently attended or officiated.

They have become political ceremonies to gather traditional leaders and opposition MPs to endorse him and pledge support for him for his government and for his 2026 re-election.

The pictures from the ceremonies confirm and show a sad depiction where UPND regalia litter the crowd.

Further, at these ceremonies, President Hichilema openly shows contempt by recognising Mafinga MP, Robert Chabinga as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Patriotic Front Acting President even when he knows that these matters remain active in the court.of law.

He also uses the events to parade members of the Opposition and Patriotic Front renegade MPs. This is sowing seeds of discord, confusion and helps fracture the unity in the Opposition.

Yet this is hypocrisy of the highest order.
During his time in the Opposition, Presodent Hichilema punished UPND MPs, Mayors and Council Chairpersons for merely receiving President Edgar Lungu.in their constituencies or districts.

The cases of Council Chairpersons of Kaoma, Bindundu Mutti, and Kafue Council Chairperson, Thomas Zulu are examples of Hichilema’sintolerance. He expelled them from the UPND for receiving President Edgar Lungu who was on national duties in their districts.

For example, President Hichilema suspended Prof. Geoffrey Lungwangwa and Hon Teddy Kasonso for merely supporting a Parliamentary Bill, Bill 10, an action that defiled parliamentary sovereignty and independence.

President Hichilema punished MPs and others severely for merely sharing the principle of co-existence and tolerance for national duties and events.

THE CASE OF THE 2024 CHABUKA TRADITIONAL CEREMONY HELD ON SUNDAY,24TH NOVEMBER 2024

The ceremony was preceded by a gathering of Luapula chiefs by government.

A letter dated 18th November 2024 invited all their Royal Highnesses from Luapula. It read;

“Luapula Province will be receiving six (6) Cabinet Ministers. They are coming in the province to discuss various developmental projects to be undertaken in all the Chiefdoms.”

“In view of the above, we are cordially inviting you our Royal Highnesses to attend this important meeting with the Cabinet Ministers,” reads the letter dated November 18, 2024 signed by Luapula Province deputy permanent secretary Prudence Mwansa Chinama.”

“Provincial Administration will cater for your travel and upkeep logistics. The meeting will take place at SALI RIVERSIDE RESORT in Mansa on Wednesday; 20th November, 2024 at 14:00 Hours. There will be lunch provided before the meeting.”

Further it became clear that Chief Mukuni, the chief of the Toka-Leya people in the Livingstone, Zimba, and Kazungula districts of Southern Province, was a political emisary of President Hichilema and was coordinating, behind the scenes, the chiefs attendance for this upcoming political event.

We wish to express gratitude and show solidarity with  Senior Chief Mwata Kazembe, who heads and leads the Lunda Kingdoms, who stayed away from this politicised event.

We also thank the four chiefs in Mansa who. despite tremendous pressure, also openly expressed concern and reservations at the desecration of the preparations of the event and boycotted the trafitional ceremony they have attended for decades, altogether.

PRESIDENT HICHILEMA HAS TAKEN OVER THE PATRIOTIC FRONT AS DEFACTO PRESIDENT

At his direction, State House organised and supported a sham Patriotic Front Extral-Ordinary General Conference.

After this we saw a process headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Milner.Muyambango where changes at the Registrar of Societies were made that saw Matero MP, Miles Sampa installed as Patriotic Front President a provess that illegally replaced President Edgar Lungu.

Again at State House direction, we saw fresh changes at office bearers of the Patriotic Front. President Hichilema has recognised Robert Chabinga as Acting President of the Patriotic Front as his recent remarks in Mansa show.

We will not be surprised that more changes may be effected to change from Robert Chabinga to whoever President Hichilema will be comfortable with.

Clearly President Hichilema is the defacto President of the Patriotic Front as he makes changes as he wills.

We have previously stated that President Hichilema has attempted to destroy democracy and the Multi-Party character of Zambia by frwquently sponsoring confusion in the Opposition and restricting their activities.

REMARKS BY MANSA MP, DR. CHITALU CHILUFYA PLEADING THE CASE OF HON. NIXON CHILANGWA AND HON. RONALD CHITOTELA

We have noted the remarks made by former Minister of Health and Mansa Member of Parliament Dr. Chitalu Chilufya where he said there was anger by the people of Luapula.regarding the cases of Hon. Nixon Chilangwa and Hon.Ronald Chitotela. He also pleadied for apparwnt leniency for them.

It must be made very clear that Hon. Nixon Chilangwa and five others need is to be granted their constitutional right to the due process of the law and to be granted their right to innocence, bail and appeal.

Infact the two demonstrated that Magistrate Martin Namushi was openly bias and was conducting the trial at the behest of officials from Lusaka.

Hon. Chilangwa proceeded to file an official complaint to the Judicial Complaints Commission (JCC) and backed the complaint with audio and written evidence and also sought for the Magistrate to recuse himself.

Despite this mounting evidence and demand for accountability, the Magistrate ignored the concerns and proceeded to hear and jail, Hon. Nixon Chilangwa. Hon. Ronald Chitotela, the Council Chairperson, Hon.Kalumba Chifumbe, Davy Kaniki, Chabu Chitotela and Kunda Chitotela.

Further, the six have appealed against this conviction and unfair incarceration and have sought bail pending appeal.

But this has been patently denied as is the new phenomenon where the courts of law have suddenly refused to grant bail in their case and in the cases of Hon. Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, Hon. Bowman Lusambo, Mrs. Wanziya Kampyongo, Francis Muchemwa and others.

What Hon. Chilangwa and Hon Chitotela require are to be granted their fundamental rights to the due process of the law and other guarantees granted by the Republican Constitution.

CONCLUSION

It is evident that in his desperate attempt to seek re-election in 2026, President Hichilema has chosen to sacrifice the sanctity and respect that these cultural events and traditional ceremonies represent and has without shame, turned them into political rallies and endorsement for his candidacy.

We urge traditional leaders to recognize the threat that President Hichilema now poses to our culture and ensure that the organisation of these ceremony is devoid of partisan politics and campaigns despute the pressure from State House.

Our appeal to President Hichilema is that the desecration and politicisation of traditional ceremonies will have lasting damage, and he is advised to restrain himself and restrict his campaigns in the political arena. He is encouraged to meet us in the field than to conduct partisan politics under the shelter of traditional ceremonies.

Why Is Michelo Chizombe, a UPND Surrogate and Ally of President Hakainde, Questioning Former President Dr. Lungu’s Eligibility Despite Clear Constitutional Court Rulings? – Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

The issue of former President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s eligibility to run in future elections continues to fuel debate in Zambia. Recently, a well-known UPND surrogate and ally of President Hakainde Hichilema, Michelo Chizombe, raised doubts about Dr. Lungu’s eligibility, despite the Constitutional Court—Zambia’s highest legal authority—ruling on the matter multiple times. These rulings have consistently affirmed Dr. Lungu’s eligibility, yet this ally of the president is challenging the Court’s verdicts.

The question arises: Why does this UPND surrogate persist in questioning Dr. Lungu’s eligibility when the Constitutional Court, the final authority on legal matters, has made its position clear on several occasions?

The Constitutional Court’s Clear Ruling

The Constitutional Court has thoroughly examined this matter, issuing rulings that repeatedly affirm former President Lungu’s eligibility to run for office again. In interpreting the Constitution’s term limit clause, the Court clarified that the two-term limit does not bar Lungu from contesting future elections because he has not served two full terms.

Dr. Lungu’s first term (2015–2016) followed the death of President Michael Sata, during which he served only two years to complete President Sata’s term. A full term is defined as a period of three years or more. Since Dr. Lungu served only two years, that period does not count as a full term.

Thus, former President Edgar Lungu remains eligible to run for another term, according to the Constitutional Court’s clear interpretation of Zambia’s Constitution.

In Whose Interest Is This?

Given the clarity of the Constitutional Court’s rulings, why continue to challenge Dr. Lungu’s eligibility? Is this persistent questioning in the interest of justice, or is it driven by political motivations?

Many citizens have called for Dr. Lungu’s return, especially as public dissatisfaction grows over the performance of the current UPND government. Issues such as economic recovery, high unemployment, and rising living costs have left many questioning the UPND’s leadership.

Continued challenges to the Court’s verdicts risk undermining public confidence in Zambia’s judiciary and legal system. If political interests are allowed to influence legal matters, Zambia’s democracy and the rule of law could be severely compromised. Legal decisions should be based on principles, not political expediency.

By challenging the Court’s decisions, UPND surrogates are setting a dangerous precedent that undermines judicial independence. It opens the door for future governments to disregard judicial rulings selectively, eroding democratic principles.

The December 10th Judgment

As December 10 approaches—the date when a final judgment on this matter is expected—the critical question is whether the Constitutional Court will uphold its previous rulings or succumb to political pressure from the UPND and its supporters. The Court must remain steadfast in its commitment to the law, upholding established precedents and resisting any attempts to influence its decisions for political gain.

Reversing its earlier rulings to appease political interests would set a dangerous precedent. It would suggest that Zambia’s judiciary is vulnerable to political manipulation, diminishing its credibility and independence. Such a move would also send a negative message both domestically and internationally, signaling that Zambia’s judiciary does not uphold the rule of law.

The Global Implications

Zambia’s reputation as a stable democracy could be at stake. A reversal of the Constitutional Court’s decisions under political pressure would suggest that Zambia’s legal system is not independent. This would erode trust in Zambia’s legal processes both within the country and globally.

An impartial and fair judicial system is a cornerstone of democratic governance and international credibility. For Zambia to maintain its standing as a stable democracy, its judiciary must remain independent and uphold the rule of law.

A Call for Respecting Legal Precedents

At this pivotal moment, the UPND must respect the rule of law and the judiciary’s independence. While political debate and differing opinions are natural in any democracy, undermining the legal system for political gain is perilous. The Constitutional Court’s rulings must not be subjected to continuous revision based on political considerations.

Rather than contest settled legal matters, the UPND should focus on addressing the pressing concerns of Zambians—such as prolonged load-shedding, stagnant economic growth, high unemployment, and declining quality of life.

Conclusion

The Constitutional Court has ruled multiple times that President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu is eligible to participate in future elections. These rulings have been clear, well-reasoned, and final. It is time for UPND surrogates and political actors to accept the Court’s decisions and redirect their focus to critical national issues.

As December 10 approaches, the Zambian people will closely observe whether the Constitutional Court will uphold its previous rulings or succumb to political pressure. Any reversal would have serious consequences for the judiciary’s credibility and Zambia’s democratic institutions.

Zambia must remain committed to the rule of law, ensuring that political interests do not undermine the fairness and justice of its courts. The integrity of Zambia’s legal system is critical to the nation’s democracy, its people, and its international reputation.

“Alice nanvela njala…” says a two months baby

“Alice nanvela njala…” says a two months baby.

An interesting and shocking incident has developed in Chongwe. The now famous village is called Chikonkoto. Reports are that a two-month-old infant is allegedly able to talk, causing fear among residents who are now demanding the banishment of the baby and her family.

Eyewitnesses, not ear witnesses say the infant, who cannot yet walk or sit up, calls out for her mother, Alice, when distressed, using phrases such as
“Alice bwela unitenge sunvela nilila’ (Alice, come and get me, can’t you hear that I’m crying?)” or
“Alicia, navela njala, nifuna kudya’ (Alicia, i’m hungry, I want to eat.)”

The infant’s great-grandmother, Loveness Musawa, believes the baby is demon-possessed, while headwoman Chikonkoto, village secretary Edmond Matambo, and other villagers have confirmed the strange occurrences, describing them as “jaw-dropping” and “bizarre.”

However, the situation has taken a darker turn, with residents pressuring headwoman Chikonkoto to banish the family from the village, fearing that the infant’s alleged ability to talk may bring evil spirits or misfortune to the community.

The headwoman is at a loss over how to handle the situation, acknowledging that the residents are adamant that the family must leave the village to prevent any further strange occurrences.

“Yes, we have a baby in my village that is able to talk at only two months. I have seen the baby and I heard it speak mentioning his mother’s name. It is truly a mystery, that is the reason we tried to engage men of God to help us resolve
this issue,” she said.

The headwoman said the mother of the baby is only 16 years old and is being kept by the grandmother.

She said the situation is regrettable but hoped a solution would be found before bowing to the pressure of burnishing the entire family.

Chikonkoto village secretary Edmond Matambo who says he has also seen and heard the infant talk said he was informed about the situation by the baby’s great grandmother, Loveness Musawa who said her great grandson who was only born on September 17, 2024 was able to talk.

“My granddaughter, Alice Musawa is the baby’s mother. She is 16. The man responsible denied the pregnancy. The baby was fine when it was born but after a month and some weeks, my husband and I while seating outside heard his talk while crying saying, Alicia bwela unitenge sunvela nilila?,” she said.

Thinking they heard wrong, they ignored. But since that incident, the baby has been talking each time he wants something, a situation that they have failed to keep as a secret.

“We tried going to traditional doctors but nothing has happened. We have now engaged pastors to come and deliver the baby from the demonic attacks,” she said.

Chongwe central ward councillor, Thomas Sakala said he received information about the talking baby from the village secretary and the headwoman.

Sakala also believes the problem is spiritual and that he is currently organising pastors from Chongwe and outside Chongwe to intervene in the matter and help deliver the baby.

“It took the headwoman and Chikonkoto village secretary to follow me in Chongwe CBD to inform me about the mystery. After confirming and verifying, I have decided to involve powerful men of God to go and pray for the family on Monday (today), he said.

Sakala said he has never heard or seen a baby aged two months talk but urged villagers in the area to remain calm and pray with the family instead of calling for the baby to be sent away from the village.

no-show by 12 out of 16 regional leaders at Sadc summit has sparked concerns about the confidence regional leaders have in Harare’s leadership

0

A dramatic no-show by 12 out of 16 regional leaders at the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) extraordinary summit convened by Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sparked concerns about the bloc’s credibility and the confidence regional leaders have in Harare’s leadership.

The summit, which was one of Mnangagwa’s first major tasks as Sadc chairperson since assuming the role in August, was initially expected to address the political turmoil in Mozambique following disputed elections. However, the meeting ultimately shifted focus to the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

What was meant to be a critical moment for regional cooperation and solidarity ended up with only four heads of state in attendance, a decision that surprised many political analysts and observers. Among the missing leaders were South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, all of whom sent lower-level representatives in their stead.

The absence of key figures such as Ramaphosa, who is at the helm of Southern Africa’s most powerful economy, raised doubts about the summit’s significance. Ramaphosa prioritized the G20 summit in Brazil, sending his deputy, Paul Mashatile, in his place. Without Ramaphosa’s presence, the weight of Sadc’s decisions was questioned by many.

Political analyst Ibbo Mandaza described the poor turnout as “unusual” for such an important meeting. “For a purported extraordinary and emergency meeting, it is highly unusual that there should be such poor attendance of heads of state,” Mandaza told the Zimbabwe Independent.

The absence of Tanzanian leader Hassan, chairperson of the Sadc Troika, was particularly notable. Hassan instead sent Zanzibar leader Hussein Mwinyi. Also missing was Zambian President Hichilema, who had already skipped the August summit in which Mnangagwa assumed the Sadc chairmanship, highlighting the ongoing strain in relations between Zimbabwe and Zambia following Zimbabwe’s disputed 2023 elections.

Planning and Coordination Issues

Walter Mzembi, former Zimbabwe Foreign Affairs Minister, pointed to poor planning as a key factor in the low turnout. He said that such an extraordinary summit should have been preceded by checks with regional leaders to confirm their availability. “I think there is an element of being presumptuous, thinking that once an extraordinary summit is called, everyone will automatically respond,” Mzembi commented. He noted that the summit clashed with other major international events, such as the G20 summit, which further complicated attendance.

Mzembi emphasized that Zimbabwe should have lobbied heads of state more effectively and coordinated with embassies to ensure the availability of regional leaders. He argued that the summit’s lack of sufficient attendance pointed to a fundamental flaw in its planning and execution.

Reuben Mbofana, another analyst, suggested that the low turnout reflected the lack of seriousness within Sadc. “The low turnout shows that the region doesn’t take these meetings seriously,” Mbofana said, adding that many leaders are likely aware that Sadc summits often result in little to no substantive outcomes.

Regional Leadership and Confidence

Beyond logistical missteps, some analysts have suggested that regional leaders may be withholding support for Mnangagwa’s leadership due to concerns over his handling of domestic and regional matters. “The fact that only four leaders attended from a 16-member group is dismal. It may indicate that fellow heads of state have no confidence in Mnangagwa’s leadership,” Mbofana said.

This skepticism may also stem from Mnangagwa’s controversial actions in Mozambique, where he prematurely congratulated Frelimo’s Daniel Chapo on winning the presidential elections. His early endorsement came before the final results had been announced, raising questions about Zimbabwe’s influence and impartiality in the region. The unrest that followed the disputed election results, which saw at least 30 people killed in clashes between Mozambican forces and civilians, further complicated Mnangagwa’s position as Sadc chairperson.

Despite the controversy surrounding his leadership, Mnangagwa received some praise at the summit for his commitment to regional peace and stability. A communique released after the summit acknowledged his efforts, stating, “The Summit extended its appreciation to His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and Chairperson of Sadc for hosting the extraordinary summit and for his commitment towards regional cooperation and attainment of peace, security, and stability in the region.”

The low attendance at the Sadc extraordinary summit highlights ongoing concerns about the effectiveness and relevance of the bloc, as well as the challenges facing Mnangagwa’s leadership. While the summit’s agenda shifted from Mozambique to the DRC, the absence of key regional figures and the lack of substantive outcomes have raised questions about Sadc’s ability to address pressing regional issues and maintain its credibility moving forward.

UNFULFILLED PROMISES, VIOLENCE, LIES AND TRIBALISM CAUSING PEOPLE TO STAY AWAY FROM VOTING- SP

UNFULFILLED PROMISES, VIOLENCE, LIES AND TRIBALISM CAUSING PEOPLE TO STAY AWAY FROM VOTING

By Stanley Muba’sa, SP National Youth Spokesperson

We have observed a serious concerning matter that is critical to our democracy, that of our citizens staying away from voting in all the by elections held across the nation.

This phenomenon is not by accident and it is also not happening by coincidence. Our people across the nation woke up early morning to queue up and vote, they did so because they were promised   cheap fuel at K10 per litre, meali meal to be sold at K50 per 25KG bag, fertilizer at K250 per 50KG bag, an end to loadshedding among other things. It is now over three years of the Upnd administration in power, what they promised our people has not been fulfilled, the opposite has happened, there is more hunger today than there was three years ago, the statistics at Zambia Statistics Agency indicate poverty has increased.

Violence and the UPND are inseparable TWINS – The recently held Dilika Ward by election in Chipata District of Eastern Province, exposed President Hichilema’s firmness of repeating his lies that violence is no more. For the record, MALAN ZIMBA katete District Commissioner with upnd thugs in his white land cruiser Prado, whose number plate was removed attacked SP members, and warned that he would sort out SP Provincial Vice secretary John Zulu. David Phiri, SP Youth was left with a deep panga cut in his head, when the matter was reported to Chipata central Police, officers refused to issue medical forms and record the violence carried out by upnd thugs.
So with many cases of upnd violence a cross this Nation, how can a normal President claim elections are held free and fair?

To this day, all known cadres who have been attacking SP camps, including abducting our members have not been arrested and prosecuted, this alone confirms that this government sanctions these evil acts.
With these acts, can you expect people to go and vote knowing very well that Upnd cadres armed with pangas are dotted along the road to attack those with divergent views? Surely no!

It is clear that this administration came to KILL, STEAL and DESTROY! But all those who take this path do not last long in power, they are drunk with power, and their ending will be bad.

For MALAN Zimba DC Katete and upnd  eastern province youth chairperson, Lyson Nyirenda, their days are numbered, our members who suffered deep panga cuts will one day demand for justice to be served. For now they can enjoy their limited and temporal freedom, they are destined for prison.

Highvie Hamududu has endorsed President Hichilema’s candidature for the 2026 elections, citing economic progress

WITH PRESIDENT HICHILEMA, GOLDEN DAYS ARE ASSURED – HAMUDUDU

24th, November 2024

MANSA – Opposition Party of National Unity and Progress (PNUP) President Highvie Hamududu has endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema’s candidature for the 2026 elections, citing economic progress.

Mr. Hamududu lauded President Hichilema for implementing impactful policies that promise an economic breakthrough citing the reopening of mines across the country as a key factor contributing to Zambia’s unprecedented economic growth trajectory.

“The fiscal discipline coupled with running mines, industrial production, and agriculture will strengthen the economic base, leading to a lower cost of living,” said Mr. Hamududu.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Chabuka Ne Sandula traditional ceremony in Mansa, the opposition leader commended the energy mix initiative which, he noted will prepare the country for droughts and ensure energy security.

“I would want to thank you, Your Excellency, for the energy mix; this initiative will help us switch when hydro fails this country,” he stated.

Mr. Hamududu declared his willingness to support President Hichilema in 2026, emphasizing the need for consistency in leadership to sustain development.

“No country has developed through changing presidencies; consistency is vital for progress. Zambia’s economy would improve within the next 18 months due to the government’s robust economic policies”, he added.

Mr. Hamududu’s sentiments were supported by Mansa member of parliament Dr. Chitalu Chilufya expressed confidence in President Hichilema’s visionary leadership.

Welcoming the President to the Chabuka ceremony, Dr. Chilufya commended the visible infrastructure development under his administration.

“The increase in Constituency Development Funds (CDF) has set a high standard for President Hichilema,” he noted.

Dr. Chilufya further praised the introduction of free education, stating it has enabled vulnerable children across the country to access education.

The Chabuka Ne Sandula traditional ceremony is held to celebrate the crossing of river LUAPULA by different ethnic groupings such as the Luunda of Mwata Kazembe, the Bemba of Chitimukulu and the Toka of Chief Mukuni as they moved from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Legacy has it that the site of the ceremony is a shrine at which the various tribal groupings increased in numbers after crossing the Luapula river leading to the creation of various Ushi chiefdoms.

DID WE BELIEVE ENOUGH pt 1

By : Cheelo Katambo
Deputy Media Director
UPND

LUSAKA – I spent my whole evening of 24th August 2021 looking at these photos and asking myself some questions. Is it true that we are finally here after more than 15 years of believing.Despite losing Presidential elections (got actively involved in 2010) we still believed that one day,we shall achieve. It has not been an easy road.Plenty of Persecutions, intimidations, arrests while we became immune to police teargass.

Some comrades we were together as the small boys in the struggle such as Brian Hapunda,Royd Moonga,Greyford Moonde and others have fallen off along the way because I believe they stopped believing in the idea.Others were fortunate to get good jobs and got less involved such as Roy Habaalu but for some of us…the struggle continued.

Within the media fraternity, the sector I have served for more than 19 years since I was welcomed through the doors of SKY FM by comrades such as Hambaya Munang’andu ,Chanda Mfula,Veronica Simubali Mumba and others,we were called names especially after the 2011 elections. We were not journalists anymore but simply unfocused UPND cadres without a future. Attempts to apply for a job especially in State media institutions met outright NO because of two things. Political affiliation and unfortunately someone told me you are also Tonga so you support the UPND. I was gutted and Immediately abandoned any attempts at finding a formal job.

Some of my former comrades and family abandoned me and could never pick up my calls because to them, every call from me was accompanied by a begging bowl.Only one comrade Maambo Haamaundu still believed and never got tired of my calls(the journalist without Borders is very grateful Sir). I saw my life fading out in front of me but I held on because I realised that both giving up and continuing in the struggle had the same outcome,Rejection by Society and I felt the latter offered better option.

At that point,I was ready to die for a cause only if future generations will not be looked down upon simply for being a Mweetwa,Munsaka,Hamaaundu,Moonga etc.My resolve was made and not even poverty and hunger were strong enough to make me stop believing. Some family members and friends persistently told me to stop it,but my resolve at that point was too strong.

Fast forward to 2014 just after the death of Michael Sata MHSRIP, I was asked to join the recreated UPND MEDIA TEAM with Ruth Dante ,Moses Walubita and others. It was not a lucrative offer because we were purely volunteers without any penny but the belief was strong. We traveled the breadth of Zambia during the 2015 elections and I can say we (UPND) did put up a spirited fight. We lost,I was gutted, reflected and almost withdrew because I felt I had reached a dead end.The belief was strong and looked forward to 2016 because we all felt that the 2015 Presidential election had given us enough ground to aggressively mount a serious campaign in 2016.

2016 came and we again narrowly lost the election but did not lose the resolve and belief.I can confess the period between 2016 and 2021 was the worst and if I had the power, its one period I would love to erase because we as UPND collectively and I as an individual went through persecution and Prosecution under the PF. Courts of law across the country became our second homes because there was always a UPND member/s attending a court session on any given day somewhere in the country or someone was being dragged to some police station for unknown crimes. It was hell.My President Hakainde Hichilema was arrested and detained for 127 days, this incident almost broke the camel’s back. Most of our members including senior party leaders went into hiding, very few wanted to be associated with the UPND because just the initials had the potential to land you in some police cell somewhere. The inmates were usually good to us but some police officers were not because they had jobs to protect. While HH was being shuttled between Chimbokaila and Mukobeko prison and Lusaka Magistrate Court for a crime even the accusers themselves did not believe in,I was arrested on July 3rd,2017 on a very serious crime of espionage and accused of torching Lusaka’s biggest market..City Market. It was a cold morning and without anything warm,Assistant Superintendent Mbita and his team from C1 section of the police pounced on me and a colleague Kelvin Mwamutanda at Government Printers building and I had to spend 5 nights at Lusaka Central police station while Kelvin was shuttled between force HQ,Woodlands and finally Ridgeway police post. The police officers did not even know what specific offence to write in the OB book as none of them wanted to directly get involved because as they claimed, those political cases were embarrassing them in Court at the hands of Counsels such as Gilbert Phiri and Mweemba.I only spent one night in the cold Cell 1 where I heard all manner of stories and realised society needs to be revolutionarised. I spent the next 4 nights in the VIP cell after the ‘Captain’ realised there was a UPND MEDIA TEAM member that had been brought to his dungeon. This followed reports by the Zambian Watchdog that I had been abducted. Both the party secretariat and family went on a wild chase from one police station to the other until I was located having already spent two nights inside. The police officers such as Sergent Mwaanga and Inspector Tembo were good to me.On the fifth day of detention around 18:30hrs, I was released after being made to pay k54 as guilty fee.

On my birthday in 2018,I escaped a well planned police dragnet and hid in the UPND secretariat after being accused of running an online publication critical of the PF government and its thieving officials. It was a lie because I had nothing to do with it.My Journalism has been clean upto this day.I don’t believe in yellow or Malicious Journalism. Fast forward to August 2019,under instructions from then Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo and his young brother Andrew,we and some colleagues were bundled in a Police Nissan and driven at an astronomical speed on a bad road from Mpika to Chinsali Police Station on accusation of being in possession of offensive weapons during a ward by-election in Shiwangandu. The total number of people arrested on that day of course without evidence was 23 and included among others John Simfukwe ,Stephen Chikota,Nathan Ilunga, and other senior party officials from Northern province. Some of us were released three nights later as they could not find evidence to link us to the Nathan Ilunga group which had been charged with possession of offensive weapons,a case which the state never prosecuted despite taking it to court.

To be continued…….

Man City Suffer Fifth Consecutive Defeat Against Tottenham

0

Tottenham defeated Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday night to hand the hosts a fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions.

Guardiola’s men have struggled for form in the last few weeks, and they suffered a second loss to Tottenham in one month after a 2-1 defeat to crash out of the League Cup in October.

The Spaniard manager signed a new two-year contract on Thursday, but he was unable to get his side out of their poor form after another damaging defeat that may have title implications.

James Maddison scored a first-half brace to give the visitors a 2-0 lead before Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson added the other goals in the second half.

Guardiola, who has now lost five consecutive games for the first time in his career, admitted that the team is fragile defensively.

He said: “At this moment we are fragile defensively. We started well as normal but we could not score and then after that we conceded. After that, we conceded some more which is difficult for our emotions right now.

“In eight years we have never lived in this kind of situation. Now we have to live it and break it winning the next games, especially the next one. Now we see things in one way, maybe in a few weeks we see it differently.

“We do not expect opponents to not create chances and score goals. We’re in the moment. We started well, we had chances and after the first time they arrived we conceded. Then it’s a bit more difficult to come back.

“Chances were there. The moment they created the chances to build up, we couldn’t handle the duels like normally. Now we’re struggling a little bit.

“It cannot happen. When you play top-level teams we can concede chances but it’s part of the process. In our situation, it’s a bit tougher.

“I have to see the situation. The players came back late [from internationals]. There were a few reasons we were not able to be consistent. Now the balance is not in the right moment. But it happened. We have to do it, talk and on Tuesday against Feyenoord have the chance to try.

“Of course Rodri is important but we knew that for many months. But Stones can only play 45 minutes. Jack has been injured many times. Kevin, two months and five months.

“We have to come back and freshen our minds. The season is so long. Many things can happen.

“Before the game, I didn’t know what would happen today. So I don’t know what will happen at Anfield. Everyone knows the situation is new for us. We struggled more without the ball. I don’t know how many chances we created. Our game was there.”

Up next for Manchester City is a Champions League clash against Feyenoord at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

Diddy Makes Fourth Attempt To Be Released From Jail On Bail

Diddy has made what is now his fourth attempt at receiving bail in his ongoing sex trafficking case – but he’s going to have to wait for a decision.

The embattled mogul appeared in a New York City courtroom for another bail hearing on Friday (November 22), where he was joined by six of his seven children, his mother and exes Sarah Chapman and Misa Hylton.

TMZ reports that Diddy’s proposed bail package sits at $50 million with his Miami Beach mansion as collateral, along with house arrest, 24/7 security and no contact with alleged victims or witnesses. While the judge has chosen not to make a decision until next week, he did immediately say that house arrest at the Miami home won’t work because there is a dock there.

Diddy’s legal team then proposed other options, including his three-bedroom apartment in Manhattan. A final call will come before Thanksgiving.

Should bail not be granted, Puff will likely remain behind bars through his trial date of May 5, 2025.

The news arrives amid claims from Diddy’s lawyers that the security footage of him assaulting Cassie was “edited and manipulated” by prosecutors in an attempt to stop him from being released on bail.

In a legal filing on Thursday (November 21), the mogul’s attorneys alleged that prosecutors showed the judge a different version of the tape than the one leaked by CNN earlier this year.

One of Diddy’s lawyers, Alex Shapiro, claimed the clip was an “altered video that omitted key scenes and presented events materially out of order.”

She further alleged it was “an edited, manipulated version of the video published by CNN.”

Diddy and his team have hired a forensic video analyst to compare clips of Diddy assaulting Cassie in 2016. The analyst claims the video shown to the judge “omits footage” and “does not accurately depict the events.”

One point of contention is that prosecutors have said that the Bad Boy boss threw a vase at Cassie, but his lawyers claim he only threw the contents of the vase at his then-girlfriend, which is said to have been a bunch of flowers.

Diddy slams former Bad Boy Rapper, Shyne, with cease and desist letter over new Documentary

Sean “Diddy” Combs has issued a cease and desist letter to his ex-protégé Moses “Shyne” Barrow over the new documentary he released.

The former Bad Boy Records rapper had made a number of revelations in the new documentary, including his belief that he was the “fall guy” for the music mogul in the 1999 NYC nightclub shooting.

The incident resulted in Shyne receiving a 10-year prison sentence for his involvement, while Diddy walked away without any jail term.

Born Jamal Barrow, Shyne was infamously at a Manhattan nightclub in 1999 with his pal and boss, Diddy, and the Bad Boy Records founder’s then-gal pal, Jennifer Lopez.

An altercation broke out between Combs and another man when guns were drawn, shots were fired and three bystanders were injured. Shyne and Combs went on trial in 2001, but only his protégé was convicted of assault and reckless endangerment.

Shyne, who is now a politician in Belize, served eight years in jail.

In the new doc, Shyne says Combs’ ways are now “coming to light,” and that he thinks he was the “fall guy” for the Sean John founder. “Because when I said it [at the time], everyone was partying and having a great time with Diddy while I was left to rot in prison,” he says in the film that follows his journey from a short-lived rapping career to becoming a politician.

He previously told The Post of his conviction: “I grew up [being told] to not get my friends in trouble. And that’s what it really boiled down to, integrity about character.”

He said in an interview promoting the film that he believed he was protecting Diddy, but claims the hitmaker, “got witnesses to testify against me, to say that basically I was this uncontrollable person that was acting in a depraved manner, which was the furtherest from the truth.”

He said he did not want to, “break the code of honor, which is that you don’t get people in trouble.”

Diddy’s reps blasted his comments, telling Page Six: “Mr. Combs categorically denies Mr. Barrow’s allegations, including any suggestion that he orchestrated Mr. Barrow to ‘take the fall’ or ‘sacrificed’ him by directing witnesses to testify against him. These claims are unequivocally false.”

The reps added: “Mr. Combs was acquitted of all charges related to the [1999 incident] and has consistently maintained his innocence,” and, “Mr. Combs appreciates the path Mr. Barrow has pursued and wishes him continued success. It is unfortunate that Mr. Barrow has chosen to revisit these allegations.”

Mike Tyson’s wife Lakiha Spicer praised for her selflessness in $25-million investment gesture

0

Boxing legend Mike Tyson has found not only a loyal partner but also a steadfast supporter in his wife, Lakiha Spicer. In a remarkable display of trust and love, Lakiha reportedly added $5 million to the $20 million Tyson earned from his recent fight with Jake Paul and gave the entire amount back to him to invest in his business ventures.

Tyson, who once faced bankruptcy and saw his first two marriages end in divorce, has publicly thanked Lakiha for her unwavering support during his most difficult times. Reflecting on his journey, Tyson shared that his wife stood by him when others left, demonstrating her commitment to their relationship.

After his $20-million payday, Tyson declared the earnings as belonging to his wife in recognition of her sacrifices. However, in a heartfelt gesture, Lakiha returned the money to him, along with a message that exemplified her selflessness and trust:

“Thank you darling, thank you my world. I am okay with just your love. If you’re okay, then I’m okay. Invest this money in your business because I know you need it more than I do. I trust you will use this money wisely.”

Lakiha’s decision to not only return the money but also add $5 million to it demonstrates her belief in Tyson’s vision and capability. This extraordinary act has propelled Tyson’s net worth from $10 million to $35 million, marking a significant financial turnaround for the former heavyweight champion.

Tyson acknowledged the profound impact of his wife’s faith in him, stating that his fight with Jake Paul was not about personal ambition but a tribute to Lakiha’s unwavering love and loyalty.

Lakiha Spicer has been praised for embodying the qualities of a virtuous woman, often cited as a cornerstone of success for many great men. Her act of generosity and trust reminds the world of the profound impact a supportive partner can have on personal and professional growth.

Mike Tyson’s story is one of resilience and redemption, and his relationship with Lakiha Spicer serves as a shining example of love, trust, and partnership. Lakiha’s commendable act underscores the biblical adage, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.”

As Tyson continues to rebuild his legacy, Lakiha remains by his side, proving that a virtuous partner can inspire greatness even in the face of adversity. The world could take a moment to appreciate and celebrate this remarkable woman for her role in Tyson’s inspiring journey.

ZAMBIA HAS A WRONG GOVERNMENT IN POWER DETERMINED TO LOOT NATIONAL RESOURCES – HON MUNDUBILE

ZAMBIA HAS A WRONG GOVERNMENT IN POWER DETERMINED TO LOOT NATIONAL RESOURCES – HON MUNDUBILE.

…….questions the Govt silence over FIC  suspicious transactions worth Millions.

LUSAKA………….Saturday, November 23, 2024 (Smart Eagles).

Mporokoso Member of Parliament Honourable Brian Mundubile has lashed out at the UPND Government on the laissez-faire approach towards suspicious transactions worth billions of dollars and Kwachas Captured in the FIC Reports.

Speaking Friday, Hon Mundubile cited $2.8 billion, K5.8 Billion,  K13.5 billion and K64 billion as some of the suspicious transactions that have received less attention from the Government.

He said these figures entailes that Zambia has got a wrong government in power that is detemined to loot national resources.

Hon Mundubile wondered if this is the reason a substantive DG and Board have not been appointed at the Anti- Corruption Commission.

He said there seems to be too much excitement by the Government in pursuing smaer cases such as the one for the 15 flats or involving former Ministers.

“The FIC Report, you remember their is a report that talked about $2.8 billion worth of suspicious transactions. We Want to find out how far government has gone.
There is a report that revealed that talked about Suspicious Transactions amounting to K5.8 billion, another one talked about Suspicious Transactions amounting to K13.5 billion and K64 billion.

All these suspicious transactions have happened in the past few years the UPND have been in power. This is the same UPND, when they were in opposition, the last FIC report on suspicious transaction under PF was worth K2 billion , they called us names , calling us thieves,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hon Mundubile has stated that alleged corruption being undertaken under the current Government will be followed.

He said this includes the corruption at  Ministry of Health especially the one involving $100 million.

Hon Mundubile also announced plans to pursue alleged corruption in the energy sector, stating that the UPND government is corrupt.

“We know that ACC is seating with letters that  were authored by Ministers to Contractors in that transaction. We also want to follow up the transaction involving the purchase of fertilizers at the Ministry of Agriculture. This is where fertilizer worth $30 million were purchased at over $50 million within the country.

We also want to make a follow up to the concession that were given to the mining house. We have question marks on the concessions that Hon Situmbeko Musokotwane gave the mining houses. Especially that three years down the line, we have not seen the commitments from the mining houses ramping up production. If anything we have seen that production has gone down.  Corruption in feeder roads and the fuel tanker industry, where individuals are allegedly taking money, all these will be followed,” he said.

WHY DO WE ZAMBIANS NOT LEARN FROM OUR PAST MISTAKES?- Fred M’membe

WHY DO WE ZAMBIANS NOT LEARN FROM OUR PAST MISTAKES?

During the MMD reign, the government signed development agreements with a 20-year tenure to attract FDIs. This meant that the terms and conditions could not be altered until after 20 years.

Zesco was a key casualty of such agreements as in some cases they were bound to supply power for as low as 4.5c per KWh even when their generation costs were way above the 4.5c. Even when Mamba Collieries came on board, Zesco would buy power from Maamba for about 10.5c and sell it at 4.5c. That was the beginning of Zesco financial woes.

The shortsightedness of such agreements was that it was assumed that all the power would be hydro generated and pricing was based on hydro power generation. As energy mix started changing with thermal coming on board and imported power arising from climate change induced, low hydro power became scarce. Zesco subsidised the industrial power supply. Zesco has since not recovered from this oversight.

We are seeing similar issues arising under the UPND. Twenty-five years road concessions under the PPP guise, yet the money used is coming from NAPSA. Mining tax concessions and waivers to attract investments.

We are seeing Mopani being given away literally for free, and the Minister of Mines lamentably fails to explain the transaction in Parliament only to be saved by the Speaker. He could not even understand that ZCCM-IH owned 100% of Mopani and ZCCM – IH is an IDC subsidiary, and he argues that GRZ has no shareholding in Mopani. Surely, should Zambians be subjected to such blatant low-level deceit and expect our economy to grow?

The reality at the end of the day is when the concessions expire, mines will come up with different tactics to avoid paying the taxes. This movie has played out over and over. We saw the now celebrated Anglo-American abandon KCM when times were bad, and now they are back because times are good.

How do you explain a shrewd businessman like Argawal of Vedanta who ran KCM after taking over from Anglo-American for a paltry $25 million for 20 years. He never paid taxes because they claimed the mine was loss-making. Which businessman can keep a loss-making business for 20 years without exiting?

This reminds me of a story where a spider asked a frog to help it cross the river by jumping on the frogs back. The frog said, “But you have a poisonous tail, and if you bite me, I will die.” The spider explained that if I bite you in the middle of the water, we will both sink and die. The explanation sounded more than convincing, and the frog agreed. As they were reaching the water shores of the river, the frog felt a sting on its back and said, “You have bitten me.” The spider said, ‘Sorry, that is just my habit.”

The moral of the story is mining houses/investors are not your friends. They are there to make massive profits, and once their mission is accomplished, they will abandon you.

By the way, can Zesco give us the power supply outlook for 2025 in advance regarding how many hours of load shedding we are likely to endure so we can plan ahead.

We also wish to remind the Minister of Finance who seems to have a monolistic economic recovery programme, which is anchored on mining production that you can not put all your eggs in one basket. Commodity trading is a risky business. We have seen it before, where crude prices dropped to as low as $30 per barrel and, in a short period, bounced back as high as $120. The same came happen to copper. Whilst the outlook is currently very exciting , it could reach $20,000 per MT, and the reverse could happen due to unforeseen future events. He should read the “Portifolio Diversification Theory”.

It’s up to you, Zambians, that you need a new government. The current regime is short-sighted with no real future plan.

President of the Socialist Party.

I HOPE THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION OF ZAMBIA WILL BE ABLE TO PROVE THE “THUGGISH BEHAVIOR” USED TO DESCRIBE ME DURING THE CONDUCT OF MY DUTY AS A LAWYER- Celestine Mambula Mukandila

0

I HOPE THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION OF ZAMBIA WILL BE ABLE TO PROVE THE “THUGGISH BEHAVIOR” USED TO DESCRIBE ME DURING THE CONDUCT OF MY DUTY AS A LAWYER.

By Celestine Mambula Mukandila

The Electoral Commission of Zambia must justify their description of Counsel’s performance of his duty as being thuggish.

I decided to remind our colleagues at the ECZ in Kawambwa Constituency of the fact that their mandate is Constitutional and must be performed independently as stated the Constitution of Zambia Act No. 2 of 2016.

Article 216 of the Constitution of Zambia Act No. 2 of 2016 says;

216. A commission shall—
(a) be subject only to this Constitution and the law;
(b) be independent and not be subject to the control of a
person or an authority in the performance of its functions;
(c) act with dignity, professionalism, propriety and integrity;
(d) be non-partisan; and
(e) be impartial in the exercise of its authority.

Furthermore, Article 229 of the Constitution of Zambia Act No. 2 of 2016 establishes the Electoral Commission of Zambia.   The said provision states that ;

229. (1) There is established the Electoral Commission of
Zambia which shall have offices in Provinces and progressively indistricts.

(2) The Electoral Commission shall—
(a) implement the electoral process;
(b) conduct elections and referenda;
(c) register voters;
(d) settle minor electoral disputes, as prescribed;
(e) regulate the conduct of voters and candidates;
(f) accredit observers and election agents, as prescribed;
(g) delimit electoral boundaries; and
(h) perform such other functions as prescribed.

The Constitution is instructive as to who must be accredited under Article 229(2)(f) and in no way does it require Counsel to be accredited by ECZ in the performance of his/her duty as a Legal Practitioner.

The Press Statement written by the Electoral Commission of Zambia and published at Midnight on the 21st of November 2024 titled; “NOMINATION OF THE NEW CONGRESS PARTY IN THE KAWAMBWA CENTRAL CONSTITUENCY PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION” and undersigned by the Senior Corporate Affairs Officer named Silvia Bwalya not only shows incompetence in the management of elections in Zambia but also shows favoritism in the conduct of dispute resolution by the electoral commission.

Article 229(2) (d) of the Constitution has given the Electoral Commission of Zambia the power to settle minor disputes and as such a minor dispute arose, wherein, the Retaining Officer had wanted to consult on a straight forward matter that was within his mandate and the said dispute was settled by the parties concerned.

Dispute resolution processes  will always have people involved to be as expressive as they can.

Participation in free and fair elections of a country remains a beacon of any healthy Democracy and must be protected at all cost especially if the said is a Constitutional guarantee.

The statement of the ECZ is not only defamatory but rather also unprofessional.

“A defamatory statement is one which is untrue and which tends either (a) to lower a person in the estimation of right thinking members of society generally; or (b) to expose a person to hatred ridicule or contempt; or (c) to disparage a person in his or her office, profession, calling, trade or business.”

The word “thug” is defined to mean;

“a violent, aggressive person, especially one who is a criminal.”

Consequently, I only hope the ECZ will be able to prove their assertions in the descriptions of our conduct.

We shall engage them on this kind of reporting and try to resolve these matters of such publications as amicable as we can.

Zambia’s Democracy is demonstrated by how strong institutions of government are viz a viz the performance of their Constitutional mandates.

Commissions must not only be independent but must also be seen to be independent in their performance of their Constitutional mandates. This is critical to the enhancement of the Confidence that a citizenry such as ours will have in these institutions of good governance.

There is serious need for us to examine the independence of our Electoral Commission, especially that I have witnessed firsthand a Retaining Officer informing me that he must consult on a matter within his mandate.

Talking Against Tribalism and Practicing It Are Two Different Things—President Hakainde Must Be Aware of This- Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Talking Against Tribalism and Practicing It Are Two Different Things—President Hakainde Must Be Aware of This

By Thandiwe Ketis Ngoma

Zambia has long stood as a beacon of peace and unity in Africa—a nation where diverse ethnic groups have coexisted in harmony. Tribalism, a divisive force, was fiercely combated by Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, who introduced the iconic slogan, “One Zambia, One Nation,” as a reminder that our strength lies in our unity, not our differences. However, in the years following the UNIP regime, occasional accusations surfaced that both the MMD and PF leaderships promoted tribalism.

While previous administrations faced occasional criticisms, they pale in comparison to the current situation under the UPND government. Under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, what began as isolated allegations of tribalism has now evolved into a deeply entrenched issue within governance. The administration’s blatant favoritism toward certain regions, coupled with its growing tendency to suppress dissenting voices, raises grave concerns about its commitment to fairness and inclusivity.

More troubling still is the government’s apparent strategy of silencing critics rather than addressing their concerns. This is not the Zambia we envisioned—a nation built on diversity and mutual respect, now teetering on the brink of division.

Tribalism in Leadership

President Hichilema’s government has been accused of favoring individuals from the Zambezi Region—a collection of provinces that includes Southern, Western, North-Western, and parts of Central. Key government positions have been disproportionately filled by individuals from these regions, sparking resentment among citizens from other provinces and tribes.

The consequences of such tribal favoritism are profound and far-reaching:

Erosion of Trust: When certain tribes are favored, the public loses faith in the government’s ability to govern impartially and justly.

Undermining Meritocracy: Placing loyalty above competence undermines efficiency, crippling the public sector and weakening service delivery.

Fostering Resentment: Alienating entire regions fuels division and creates a deep wound that could take generations to heal.

What was once a proud nation united by its diversity now faces the real threat of fragmentation. Zambians have every right to demand leadership that serves the national interest—not one that caters to tribal or regional loyalties.

Silencing Critics

Even more damaging than the accusations of tribalism is the administration’s heavy-handed response to criticism. Activists, journalists, and political leaders who dare to expose the truth face intimidation, harassment, and even imprisonment.

The use of police and the legal system to suppress dissent is deeply alarming. Those who challenge the government’s alleged tribal bias are often charged with vague crimes like hate speech, sedition, or defamation, effectively stifling free speech.

For example, Independent MP for Lumezi Constituency and human rights activist Dr. Sishuwa Sishuwa, who has spoken out against the government’s tribal biases, has been labeled an “agitator” and an “enemy of progress.” This aggressive approach only deflects attention from the real issues at hand and deepens public mistrust.

This culture of suppression is counterproductive. Silencing critics doesn’t resolve the underlying issues; it exacerbates them. Worse, it fosters a climate of fear, stifling open debate on the vital issues affecting Zambia’s unity and progress.

This Is Not the Zambia We Want

Zambia deserves a government that unites its people, not one that tears them apart. Leadership must be rooted in fairness, inclusivity, and meritocracy. Tribalism, if allowed to persist, will unravel the decades of peace, cooperation, and mutual respect that have defined our nation.

The Zambia we want is one where:

Every ethnic group feels valued and represented: Leadership must reflect the diversity of our nation, ensuring no group is marginalized or excluded.

Appointments are based on merit, not tribal affiliation: Public office should be filled by the most competent and qualified individuals, regardless of their ethnic background.

Freedom of speech is protected: Citizens must have the right to voice their concerns and challenge injustices without fear of retribution.

Unity cannot be achieved if those who challenge tribalism are silenced while the practice itself continues unchecked. Zambia’s future depends on an open, honest dialogue that includes all voices—especially those that dissent.

The Way Forward

To restore trust and safeguard the nation’s unity, President Hakainde Hichilema must take immediate and decisive action:

1. Acknowledge the Problem: Denying or ignoring the allegations of tribal favoritism will only deepen the public’s mistrust. Transparency is critical.

2. Promote Inclusive Leadership: Appointments must reflect Zambia’s diversity, with competence and merit placed above ethnicity.

3. Protect Freedom of Expression: Suppression of dissent undermines democracy. The government must embrace constructive criticism as a tool for improvement.

4. Establish a National Cohesion Framework: Initiatives such as inter-tribal forums, educational campaigns, and anti-discrimination policies must be implemented to foster unity.

5. Lead by Example: President Hichilema must align his actions with his words, demonstrating inclusivity and fairness in governance.

Ending Tribalism Requires Bold Action

Tribalism thrives in silence but can be eradicated through transparency, dialogue, and accountability. Zambians have a moral obligation to confront this issue head-on, demanding fairness and inclusivity from their leaders.

The dangers of tribalism extend far beyond politics—it fractures families, communities, and the nation as a whole. Tackling this issue demands collective courage, persistence, and a steadfast commitment to unity. Zambia cannot afford to let tribalism fester; the consequences of inaction will be catastrophic.

Conclusion

Zambia’s strength has always been rooted in its diversity. A government that elevates tribalism over national unity undermines the very fabric of the nation. President Hakainde Hichilema stands at a critical crossroads: he can either continue perpetuating division or lead Zambia toward a future defined by fairness, inclusivity, and transparency.

The stakes have never been higher, but the path forward is clear. Silence is not an option. Zambians must demand the country they deserve—a nation where every citizen is valued, represented, and free to speak the truth.

The Zambia we dream of is within our grasp, but achieving it requires visionary leadership and the collective courage of its people. Together, we can reclaim Zambia’s legacy as a beacon of peace, unity, and diversity.

STRENGTHENING ZAMBIA’S  GOVERNANCE AND INSTITUTIONAL INTEGRITY

0

STRENGTHENING ZAMBIA’S  GOVERNANCE AND INSTITUTIONAL INTEGRITY….

the recent controversy surrounding the Registrar of Societies has raised significant concerns about potential undue influence within this office under President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration.

Such incidents highlight the urgent need for institutions to act in strict alignment with Zambia’s Constitution, prioritizing justice, fairness, and the rule of law above all else.

It is commendable to see individuals who have upheld legal principles, demonstrating integrity and a commitment to
Zambia’s legal framework.

This serves as a reminder that institutions like the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) must uphold their constitutional mandates to ensure peace, fairness, and national unity.

The ECZ’s role is not to serve individuals or political parties but to prioritize the interests of the nation as a whole.

The Catholic Bishops of Zambia have wisely reminded us in their pastoral message, quoting Isaiah 58:6-7: Seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow.

This profound call to action challenges all Zambians to pursue justice as a sacred duty, ensuring equity for all, especially the marginalized.

To address these pressing concerns and foster a united, peaceful Zambia, we must collectively work towards enforcing Institutional integrity.

Institutions must operate independently and without undue influence to inspire public confidence.

Uphold the rule of Law
all decisions and actions must be guided by the law, ensuring fairness, accountability, and equal treatment for all citizens.

Encourage transparency
transparent governance reduces corruption and fosters trust between citizens and the government.

Foster national unity
Political leaders and citizens alike must prioritize harmony and unity over partisan or personal interests.

Empower citizens through civic education
ensuring all Zambians understand their rights and responsibilities in a democracy is crucial for meaningful civic engagement.

As we work towards strengthening governance, attention must also be given to pressing local concerns. For instance, the ongoing situation at the Kasumbalesa border, where reports suggest Congolese nationals are encroaching on Zambian land, demands urgent action.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security must redirect focus from petty issues, such as unproductive press briefings on individuals like Jay Jay Banda, to address serious challenges that threaten Zambia’s territorial integrity.

Local leadership in Chililabombwe, including MP Paul Kabuswe, the mayor, and the District Commissioner, must rise to the occasion. Instead of pursuing self-enrichment, they should take a proactive role in resolving the border issue, safeguarding Zambia’s sovereignty, and ensuring national interests are prioritized.

As Zambians, we must not lose sight of the bigger picture: building a prosperous, inclusive nation where institutions serve the people, peace is preserved, and democracy flourishes. By working together with unity and purpose, we can create a stronger Zambia that leaves no one behind.

THE DIE IS CAST: NEW FACE FROM KAWAMBWA COMING TO PARLIAMENT

THE DIE IS CAST: NEW FACE FROM KAWAMBWA COMING TO PARLIAMENT

By George Chomba

In the aftermath of the filing of nominations for the Kawambwa Parliamentary by-election on November 21, 2024, it is evident that whatever the outcome, a new face is entering the National Assembly after the December 20 election.

This is in person and in the political party representation.

The reason is the Patriotic Front which held the Kawambwa seat after the 2021 general election is not participating.
Equally, Mr Nickson Chilangwa who garnered 13,258 for the PF is not in the race as he is serving a jail sentence of five years after being convicted on charges of malicious damage to property.

The only association the PF has to the Kawambwa by-election is under the Tonse Alliance, which however is not a political party and will not be on the ballot paper.

Instead, the Tonse alliance member in the name of the New Congress Party will be on the ballot paper for the by-election.

Therefore, assuming the New Congress Party wins the Kawambwa by-election through Mr Danstan Mwansa that will be the name of the Member of Parliament to be listed at the National Assembly and the political party to be engraved.

For the New Congress Party, it will be making history in the life of Zambian politics, since the retain to multi-party politics in 1991, to have contribute a Member of Parliament to the National Assembly.

At the moment, the New Congress Party remains a political social media heavy weight without representation at council, chairperson or mayorship and the National Assembly.

In the same vein, other political parties to make history but at the moment are without representation in the National Assembly are the Movement for Change and Equality, fielding Peter Bwalya, the United Prosperous Peaceful Zambia who have Kennedy Chomba and the Socialist Party with their hopeful in the name of Kennedy Kapambwe.

While the first two are new to Kawambwa Parliamentary elections, the Socialist Party can boast of being an old unfortunate contestant who in 2021 fielded Lindiwe Mawele but only managed 81 votes out of 27,885 voters.

Whatever the case, a win for the Socialist Party in Kawambwa would enable the political party make history as the fourth political party in the life of this National Assembly after UPND, PF AND PUNP.

While the Socialist Party has some councilors dotted around Zambia, they have not had a law maker since formation in 2018.

But all political parties participating in Kawambwa should not underestimate, the ruling UPND with Mr Nason Musonda as candidate.

Although possessing the majority in the National Assembly, having Mr Musonda as a Member of Parliament brings a new narrative to the politics of Luapula Province which rejected all other political parties, including the UPND in 2021 in favour of the Patriotic Front.

For the ruling UPND, having an indigenous Member of Parliament in Luapula may just give President Hakainde Hichilema a food for thought about the choice for minister for the province.

Since 2021, President Hichilema has been poaching members of Parliament from other provinces to be made minister in charge of Luapula.

But of course, that is his discretion as President to appoint whoever he wishes in charge of a province or ministry.
With almost two years remaining before the 2026 general election, the outcome of the Kawambwa by-election means different things to different political stakeholders.

Definitely, the 27,885 voters in Kawambwa have a choice to pick from in the five candidates and political parties on display.

For now, the die is cast with an obvious outcome – a new face coming to the National Assembly from Kawambwa.

CHILDREN SHOT DEAD AFTER JOINING POT-BANGING PROTESTS IN MOZAMBIQUE

CHILDREN SHOT DEAD AFTER JOINING POT-BANGING PROTESTS IN MOZAMBIQUE

The mourners at a cemetery in crisis-hit Mozambique’s capital, Maputo, were strikingly young – children shedding tears as they bade farewell to a 16-year-old friend, who was shot dead while banging pots and pans in an opposition-organised protest against the outcome of last month’s presidential election.

“Antonio was shot in the mouth, and the bullet went through the back of his head,” his uncle, Manuel Samuel, told the BBC.

“We saw CCTV footage from nearby shops of police shooting at protesters,” he added.

Antonio Juaqim’s killing is a tragic reminder of the volatile political climate in the southern African state since Frelimo – the former liberation movement in power since independence 49 years ago – was declared the winner of the poll.

The electoral commission said Frelimo’s presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, won with a whopping 71% of the vote, compared to the 20% of his closest rival, Venâncio Mondlane.

An evangelical pastor who contested the presidency as an independent after breaking away from the main opposition Renamo party, Mondlane rejected the declaration, alleging the poll was rigged.

This was denied by the electoral commission, but Mondlane – who fled the country, fearing arrest – has rallied his supporters via social media to protest against the result.

Every night at 21:00 local time (19:00 GMT), people have been banging pots and pans in their homes, as they heed Mondlane’s call to send a loud message that they reject an extension of Frelimo’s 49-year rule.

Mr Samuel said the protest was first held on the night of 15 November when huge numbers of people took to the streets to bang pots, pans and bottles or to blow whistles.

“It was as though a new Mozambique was being born,” he added.

But the night ended tragically, with Antonio being among those killed by police, Mr Samuel said.

Since then most people have been carrying out the protest inside their homes, with the sound of banged pots and pans echoing across Maputo at 21:00 every night.

At Antonio’s funeral at the São Francisco Xavier Cemetery four days after his killing, one of his friends delivered his mother’s eulogy: “You were so full of life and hope. Now you are a victim of a bullet.”

Crying, Antonio’s friends planted flowers on his grave before bursting colourful balloons over it, a reminder that he was just a child.

“At the morgue I counted six bodies of young children,” Mr Manuel told the BBC.

“They are killing us and our future,” he added.

Campaign group Human Rights Watch said that about 40 people – including at least 10 children – have been killed by police during the post-election protests.

Mozambique’s police commander Bernadino Raphael expressed sympathy with the families of the victims, but deflected responsibility for the deaths, blaming Mondlane’s supporters.

“They are using children as shields in front of them while they remain behind,” he alleged in a BBC interview.

The commander added that in many instances police had no choice but to defend themselves from protesters who had unleashed violence, including killing six officers and looting and burning property and vehicles.

“We recorded 103 injured people, 69 of whom were police officers,” he said. [BBC News]

Khalid Confirms That He’s Gay After Being Outed By Former Boyfriend

Khalid became a superstar on the back of lovelorn songs like “Location” and “Talk.” His smooth delivery and slick production have garnered him chart-topping singles and Grammy nominations. Despite all the fame, Khalid has kept a relatively low public profile. He rarely discusses his personal life song or during interviews. He simply puts out popular music and keeps it moving. Until November 22. A man who said he was Khalid former’s boyfriend hopped on Twitter to bash the singer. He effectively outed Khalid, and the singer took the whole thing in stride by confirming that he was indeed gay.

It was not initially clear who Hugo D Almonte was talking about in his initial tweet. He simply bashed the man in question, calling him “dumb” and “ugly.” Almonte also claimed that he was a singer, which was a sign that something was afoot. He accused the man of making it seem as though he broke into the man’s house, when Almonte claimed he didn’t. A second tweet was sent minutes later, containing a pic of Hugo D Almonte and the “singer” in question. It was, unmistakably, Khalid. Fans were shocked by this sudden and unexpected turn of events. Khalid’s social media exploded, with fans eager to find out whether the allegations were true.

Khalid didn’t deny a thing. He threw shade at Almonte for outing him to the world, but he admitted that he was a gay man. “I got outted and the world still continues to turn,” he wrote. “Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me 🖤 love y’all.” He then quote tweeted a user who asked why he hadn’t come out sooner. Once again, the singer made a very valid point regarding celebrity privacy. “I wasn’t hiding anything,” Khalid explained. “It’s just none of your business.”

The singer sent one final tweet out to put a button on the situation. He posted a rainbow flag and then humorously asked that fans move on to discussing something else. “There y’all go,” he asserted. “Next topic please lol.” This is the most insight fans have ever gotten into Khalid’s personal life, and it truly is unfortunate that it occurred on someone else’s terms.

The Daylight theft of Mopani Copper Mines- Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

The Daylight theft of Mopani Copper Mines

……Article 210 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia states that; (2) A major State asset shall be sold, transferred or otherwise. disposed of, as prescribed, subject to the approval of the National Assembly signified by a vote of at least two-thirds of the Members of Parliament…..

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

Mopani Copper Mines;

● Sold without parliamentary approval as required by Article 210 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia.

● Sold to a company that did not participate in the bidding process.

● No money given to the treasury.

● No cash paid for the 51% shares.

● IRH merely committed to investment pledge of $1.1billion.

● Mopani had just invested $4.5 billion in new shafts, new smelter (2014-2021). This was a well capitalised mine.

TIMELINE

March 2020-Since 2015, Glencore, whose directors were facing criminal charges and prosecution from the FBI in the USA and the Serious Frauds Office in London make dramatic  decisions. The embattled mining giant had earlier announced that it had started the sales process for two of its copper mines in Australia and Chile.

The firm’s Australian copper mine in Cobar, New South Wales, and its Lomas Bayas copper mine in the Atacama desert in Chile were put up for sale.

GLENCORE also sold two zinc mine in Namibia and Burkina Faso for $400m to Trevali Mining Corporation.

Glencore further sold its Optimum coal mine in South Africa to Tegeta Exploration and Resources for $136 million.

GLENCORE IN ZAMBIA

Glencore had invested heavily in Mopani Copper Mine.

Mopani Copper Mine had since 2014 sunk and equipped three (3) brand new shafts to replace the old infrastructure at both Nkana and Mufulira mine sites, which dates back to the 1930s.

The three new shafts were Syclinorium and Mindola Deeps Shafts at Nkana Mine in Kitwe and The Henderson Shaft at Mufulira Mine site.

Mopani had also built a brand new Concentrator at Nkana mine site, The New Syclinorium Concentrator.

The new infrastructure was expected to extend the life of the mine by over 25 years, improve production efficiencies and safeguard the existing jobs.

As at 2021, this was one of the well-invested and well-capitalised mine with envious multi-million dollar assets.

Mopani only needed about $300 million to complete projects started by Glencore and boost annual production fivefold, to 200,000 tons.

March 2021- Glencore announced that its subsidiary Carlisa Investments, in which Glencore holds 81.2% of the shares, had completed the sale to ZCCM Investments Holdings of its 90% interest in Mopani Copper Mines.

As previously announced, the consideration of the transaction was US$1 and transaction debt of $1.5 billion.

August 2021-Mopani Copper Mines PLC was wholly owned by ZCCM-IH.

ATTORNEY GENERAL FALSELY CLAIMS THAT MOPANI COPPER MINES WAS NOT A STATE-OWNED ENTITY

In his Opinion to the Minister of Mines, the Attorney General made false claims that Mopani was neither a State institution nor a Public body.

But let’s examine, Article 266 of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016 that defines a state institution and a public body as follows:

“State institution” includes a ministry or department of the Government, a public office, agency, institution, statutory body, commission or company in which the Government or local authority has a controlling interest, other than a State organ”.

It is not in dispute that as August 2021, ZCCM-IH was the majority shareholder of Mopani (99% shareholding) and that ZCCM-IH is a separate legal entity at law.

However, the Government through the Minister of Finance exercises ultimate and effective control over this separate legal entity.

Here is the explanation. ZCCM-IH was majority owned by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as beneficial owner.

The beneficial owner is a person or entity that exercises ultimate and effective control.

ZCCM-IH and Mopani were therefore, effectively controlled the Minister of Finance by virtue of the Minister of Finance (Incorporation) Act Cap 349 of the Laws of Zambia.

Section 7 of Cap 349 prescribes that;

“All property vested in the Minister of Finance under or by virtue of the provisions of this Act shall, except where and to such extent as the property is held on other trusts, be held in trust for the President on behalf of the Government.”

A review of the shareholding structure of Mopani reveals that, at this stage, it was a subsidiary of ZCCM-IH.

Thus ZCCM-IH under paragraph (d) of the definition of “control” aforementioned is a holding company that exercises control over Mopani.

However, the Companies Act equally reinforces the reality of ownership and control structures pertaining to legal persons by a natural person in the introduction of the concept of “beneficial owner/ ownership”.

This concept (of beneficial owner) seeks to encourage and increase transparency of legal persons and arrangements through disclosure of who (natural person) ultimately owns, controls, exercises substantial interest in, or receives substantial economic benefit from a body corporate.

Section 3 of the Companies Act defines “control” as the control of a company by a person who—
(a) beneficially owns more than twenty-five percent of the issued share capital of the company;
(b) is entitled to vote a majority of the votes that may be cast at a general meeting of the company, or has the ability to control the voting of a majority of those votes, either directly or through a controlled entity of that person;
(c) is able to appoint or to veto the appointment of a majority of the directors of the company;
(d)is a holding company and the company is a subsidiary of that company as provided for in this Act;
(e) in the case of a company that is a trust, has the ability to control the majority of the votes of the trustees, to appoint the majority of the trustees or to appoint or change the majority of the beneficiaries of the trust; or
(f) has the ability to materially influence the management policy or affairs of the company in a manner comparable to a person who, in ordinary commercial practice, can exercise an element of control referred to in paragraphs (a) to (e).

Therefore, a company in which the Government has a controlling interest is a state institution.

PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’S GOVERNMENT DISPOSES OFF SHARES IN MOPANI

TIMELINE

April 2022- ZCCM-IH said it was seeking a financial adviser to restructure Mopani Copper Mine and help find a new external investor for the mining complex, which Glencore had sold back to the state in January 2021.

June 2022- ZCCM-IH hires investment bank, Rothschild & Co, as a consultant for Mopani Copper Mines. The scope of the consultant was to offer a straregic review and propose restructure “to ensure its sustainability and continued development”.

May 2023- Dolika Banda, who was appointed to the board of ZCCM-IH in December 2021,
resigns as Non-Executive Director and Board Chairperson of ZCCM Investments Holdings, effective May 5, 2023.

A renowned international banker, Dolika’s sudden resignation as ZCCM-IH Board Chairperson at the height of business decisions regarding Kansanshi Copper snd Gold Mine, Konkola Copper Mines and Mopani Copper Mines, raised industry concerns with sources citing gross interference and proposed corruption from State House.

July 2023- China’s Zijin Mining, Norinco Group, Sibanye Stillwater and an investment vehicle owned by ex-Glencore Plc officials are announced as short-listed to buy Mopani.

October 2023-Sibanye Stillwater which was among investors bidding to buy Mopani Copper Mines, said the amount of money required to expand output and run the Zambian assets profitably was $1billion and would make it one of the biggest mines in Africa.

Neal Froneman, the CEO for the South African platinum mining giant, expressed optimism about investing in Mopani.

December 2023- Zambia announces the surprise selection of an unkown, non-bidder to the bidding the process.
A United Arab Emirates’ International Resources Holdings (IRH) was announced as the new strategic equity partner in Mopani Copper Mines.

IRH, was said or purported to be linked to Abu Dhabi’s most valuable listed company, International Holdings Company (IHC).IHC is a publicly-listed holding company in Abu Dhabi.

IRH pledged to invest funds into Mopani to help with short-term working capital and finance the completion of the mine development to unlock Mopani’s long-term potential as well as restructure the copper mine.

February 2024- The shareholders of ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc Board, referring to earlier cautionary announcements issued on 10 November 2023 and 30 November 2023 confirmed that it had approved International Resources Holding (IRH)RSC Limited, as the preferred Strategic Equity Partner for Mopani Copper Mines Plc.

ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc shareholders unanimously approved the Mopani Copper Mines Plc (Mopani) transaction where a new company, Delta Mining Limited (Delta), a now purported subsidiary of International Resource Holdings (IRH), had agreed to acquire a 51% shareholding in Mopani for a total investment of up to US$1.1 billion.

The announcement stated that ZCCM-IH will retain 49% shares in Mopani, with 3 out of 9 board seats (5 by Delta and 1 by GRZ), and thus continue to participate in the governance of Mopani and have full visibility of its operations.

CONCLUSION

President Hakainde Hichilema and the Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, Paul Kabuswe breached the Constitution and broke the law when they failed to take the transaction to Parliament for approval as required by the Constitution.

This is lierally a brand new and well capitalised mine and cannot be dispossed off in these unclear circumstances.

Further the deal to transfer shareholding of 51% shares to IRH and its purorted subsidiary Delta Mining Ltd has raised concerns with no discernible explanation from Government.

It is increasingly becoming clear that both IRH and Delta may be shell companies with its beneficial owners undisclosed. They were not part of the 10 bidders or part of the four final listed bidders.

The failure to pay for the shares and instead accept mere investment pledges  robs the country of its assets abd resources.

This a scandal of monumental proportion and must be probed.

KAMPYONGO SLAMS GOVERNMENT FOR ‘ CONFUSION’ OVER J.J BANDA’S EXTRADITION

KAMPYONGO SLAMS GOVERNMENT FOR ‘ CONFUSION’ OVER J.J BANDA’S EXTRADITION.

…..Criticizes Mobile Money Bill.

Lusaka – Friday, November 22, 2024 ( Smart Eagles)

Former Home Affairs Minister Hon Stephen Kampyongo has described the manner in which seemingly contradictory statements surrounding the status of Petauke Central Member of Parliament Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda are coming out as “Organized Confusion and Indiscipline”.

And Hon Kampyongo has charged that heads must roll if it turns out that the Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Hon Jack Mwiimbu misled the nation two days ago when he announced that Hon Jay Banda has been captured in Zimbabwe awaiting extradition.

Yesterday, Police Inspector General Graphel Musamba also disclosed that preparations to process the extradition of the Petauke lawmaker are ongoing.

And today, Zimbabwean Police have been quoted in one of the Zambian daily tabloids refuting that they have Hon Jay Banda in their custody as announced by both Hon Mwiimbu and Mr Musamba.

But Hon Kampyongo said during a weekly press briefing that should the minister discover that he has been misled, it is important that he deals with those who could have misled him because he depends on the support systems within the ministry.

“To see the Police IG also issue a statement when he should have an input in the statement that the minister issued, points to indiscipline of the highest order and the minister must put his house in order so that he should be the one accountable for the statements that are coming from the ministry,” he said.

And Hon Kampyongo says following further assurances he gave to Parliament over the issue, the nation is comforted that the earlier ruling by Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti where she gave Mr Jay Banda a 7-day ultimatum to attend Parliamentary business or lose his seat will be rendered as an academic exercise because the state will make the lawmaker available through the extradition processes.

He says should the matter be rendered an academic exercise, it will be helpful to the Speaker who has built a reputation for making decisions that need interpretation from the courts and has been found wanting not less than five times despite coming from a legal background.

“We shall be watching with keen interest to see how this drama plays out but the minister of Home Affairs should be interacting with colleagues at his level in the region to avoid the danger of giving information which is not accurate relating to another country has diplomatic implications as neighboring countries have platforms where we share matters of politics, defense and security with laid down communication procedures,” he said.

And in another matter, Hon Kampyongo says the proposed bill on Mobile Money Transfers which seeks to provide for keeping of records of operations among mobile money operators for inspection by Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) is going to cripple their operations.

The Shiwang’andu MP states that the same platforms that have been established by mobile telecommunication companies have helped the unbanked populations especially those in far flung areas not serviced by traditional banks.

“Where will ZRA even get the capacity to collect taxes from these mobile money operators if they are failing to collect taxes from the new mines that are coming up?” Hon Kampyongo wondered. “The FIC reports point to billions of dollars going untaxed by ZRA yet they want to target the poor and unemployed youths?”

He says Government must broaden the revenue base but it must done sensibly by getting the revenue from the natural capital in the mines where it matters most instead of targeting poor citizens through a misplaced bill.

Hon Kampyongo said the youths are now being fixed and has since challenged them to begin drawing lessons and emulate their colleague from other countries such as Ghana where a similar law was proposed but they rose against it and succeeded after standing their ground.

Meanwhile, Hon Kampyongo has expressed shock with the reaction of some senior government officials particularly housing and Infrastructure Minister Hon Charles Milupi to the recent Pastoral Letter by the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) who has accused some bishops of being partisan.

He says the Catholic Church has always been known to be non-partisan and on the side of the people hence the minister must be respectful to the collective wisdom of the bishops because everything they highlighted in their letter reflects the true state of affairs in the country.

Analyzing the Mopani Copper Mine Deal, Ministerial Statement Sparks More Questions

Analyzing the Mopani Copper Mine Deal, Ministerial Statement Sparks More Questions

It seemed wise to provide some background on the topic at the beginning. The ownership and disposal of Mopani Copper Mines in Zambia are primarily governed by a combination of laws that regulate mining operations, state-owned properties, and corporate governance. Some of the key legislation governing the mining sector in Zambia include:

The Mines and Minerals Development Act, 2015 (Amended 2016) covers mining rights transfer and disposal, specifically for state or foreign investors. The Public Finance Management Act of 2018 oversees public asset management, including the Zambian government’s stake in Mopani Copper Mines via ZCCM-IH. Per the Companies Act of 2017, Mopani Copper Mines must follow regulations on ownership, shareholder privileges, and corporate activities such as mergers, acquisitions, or disposals. The 2020 Public Procurement Act focuses on procurement processes, regulating the acquisition, utilization, and disposal of public assets. The Constitution of Zambia, 2016 regulates public property, serving as the legal basis for governance. Article 257 requires Parliament to pass laws for managing national resources. Article 210 bars the unauthorized transfer of public property without Parliament’s approval, which is crucial for protecting public assets in Zambia.

Controversy over the Mopani Copper Mine deal led to anticipation of a comprehensive statement by the minister on legal compliance. However, the focus of the bidding process was mainly on the 2020 Public Procurement Act, overlooking other legal aspects. This has raised more questions rather than clarified. Let us delve into key concerns.

Based on legal advice, the Minister of Mines stated that no sales, transfers, or disposals of state assets had taken place. The government-owned no shares in Mopani Mine Company and therefore could not sell any shares. Mopani is not a state-owned enterprise, either before or after the transaction. Review the Further Cautionary Announcement which was issued by ZCCM Investments Holdings regarding the acquisition of 90% of Mopani Copper Mines on March 10, 2021 it was stated that: ”The acquisition of 90% of the issued shares in Mopani will result in ZCCMIH being the holder of 100% of the issued shares in Mopani and represents an opportunity for ZCCM-IH to transform from a pure investment company to owning and operating a major mining asset in Zambia”. The Minister confirmed in his statement that ZCCM IH held a 100% shareholding in Mopani.

Furthermore, the cautionary announcement, hinted that “In line with Section 9.16 of the LUSE Listings Requirement, and upon confirmation that Mopani is a subsidiary of ZCCM-IH as defined by the Companies Act, ZCCM-IH confirms that the Articles of Association of Mopani will be amended to conform to Schedule 10 of the LUSE Listings Requirements“. The shares were transferred without full payment, with the government guaranteeing it. Shares were moved to ZCCM IH, which made Mopani a subsidiary. Mopani was 100% controlled by IDC through ZCCM IH. Therefore, the transaction should have been parliamentary-approved under relevant constitutional provisions. The compliance test should have been also conducted under the aforementioned laws and demonstrated in the statement.

Additionally, a Transaction Completion & Withdrawal Of Cautionary Announcement issued on March 21, 2024, re: Mopani Copper Mine deal, reveals govt.’s US$150 million payment. Includes $15 million upfront + 15-yr loan to pay Glencoe. The notice provided does not indicate whether the payment was for a 49% stake in ZCCM IH or the initial 90% ownership of shares in ZCCM IH. This lack of transparency and accountability raises concerns regarding the deal.

The ministerial statement raises uncertainty about the Mopani Copper Mine transaction, particularly about share transfers. The government denies share transfer allegations and explains new shares were issued from the government to Delta (IRH) via ZCCM IH. It’s vital to note shares rely on shareholders. After Glencore exited, shares moved to ZCCM IH, giving it full ownership of Mopani’s shares, irrespective of payment.

The transfer of 51% shares from ZCCM IH to IRH, and then to Delta, continues to be a puzzling aspect of the agreement. IRH is tasked with holding the purported 51% shares in Mopani, making the transfer to Delta somewhat mysterious. What is interesting is that the Companies Act of 2017 in Zambia prohibits companies from transferring their shares to their subsidiaries. It is necessary to comply with the regulations outlined in the Company Act, which dictate that shares can only be transferred if they are fully paid up. In the case of transferring IRH’s 51% shares of Mopani, valued at $1.1 Billion, to Delta, the shares must be paid for in full. Has this transaction been completed? There remain numerous unanswered questions that the Minister should have addressed, but unfortunately, he missed the opportunity to do so.

Given the circumstances described, why is the government avoiding taking responsibility for the mess that has been made? There is a need for the government to acknowledge and take responsibility. Through IDC and ZCCM IH, Mopani was a government asset that belonged to the people of Zambia, no matter how one views it. The procedure should have been followed as per provisions of various and relevant laws.

The recent ministerial statement regarding the Mopani Copper Mine deal has left many uncertainties. The lack of transparency, unclear share transfers, and potential legal loopholes emphasize the importance of conducting a comprehensive investigation and oversight of such transactions. Failure to provide satisfactory responses may result in accountability for those involved in the near future. All stakeholders must prioritize accountability and transparency to prevent similar controversies from arising again.

THE PROPOSED EMMENDMENT OF SECTION 70 OF THE PENAL CODE DRACONIAN, RETROGRESSIVE AND VIOLATES A NUMBER OF RIGHTS… CHISANGA SAYS

…. appreciates stakeholders that have taken the issue seriously and condemned it…

Lusaka, Friday 22 November 2024 (Smart Eagles)

PF Chairperson for Legal and Constitutional Affairs George Chisanga has described the proposed ammendment to section 70 of the Penal Code as Draconian, retrogressive, Counterproductive and not healthy in a Democratic society.

He says while he agrees with sentiments made previously by President Hichilema that there is an increase in hate speech in the country, he does not agree that making the offense punishable with a prison sentence between 7 to 20 years is reasonable.

He says he on a number of occasions has expressed this but does not see how the amending  the Law is the answer to the issue.

“I have agreed that the president was right to make an observation that there is a growing trend of hate speech in the country. I agree with him, and so many Zambians agree with him,  but what I don’t agree with the president… is that his lone voice must result in us amending the Law and introducing such harsh terms as a 20 year sentence for hate speech.” He says.

Mr Chisanga who is also PF Lukashya Member of Parliament however  says he is gratified that many Zambians have taken interest in this subject and spoken to to it.

“I am gratified that a lot of Zambians have taken this issue with the seriousness it deserves and they have wholesomely condemned this manoeuvre by the UPND government to ammend the Penal Code to give themselves extensive powers on how they’re going to deal with people in so far as ethnic and tribal relationships are concerned.” He says.

He says the UPND since assuming government has armed itself with the provisions of the Law to deal with those who don’t agree with them, adding that section 7 of the Penal Code is one such Law.

He states that in its current form the Law has been very effective in regulating hate speech even though the UPND has been abusing it.

“Their desire now is to expand the definitional concept of this provision to ensure that if they don’t agree with what (for example) Hon Mundubile says about them, what Hon. George Chisanga says about them, they’ll envoke the provisions of section 70 as amended and have that person not only confined to custody and if unfortunately a person gets convicted, they’ll go to and serve a jail term of between 7 years and 20 years.” He says.

Quoting the sentiments related to this subject made by the Catholic Bishops in a Pastoral letter issued last week, Mr Chisanga said that there is nobody that has called for the ammendment of this particular Law apart from president  Hichilema and that Zambians have not been consulted on whether it is desirable to ammend the Law in question.

“Law Development Commissioners have nor gone around the country to find our from Zambians whether it is desirable to ammend the Law,the only thing Zambians know is what the president said when he had a press briefing, where he lamented the growth of hate speech in the country.”

I think that this Law is very retrogressive andshould not be allowed to pass throigh this National Assembly but I call upon Zambians to voice out against any agenda that seeks to ammend this Law.” Mr Chisanga added.

The Lukashya Lawmaker is however of the view that government should consider interrogating the cause of the increase in hate speech and tackle it using education and other avenues as opposed to amending the Law and making the punishment stiffer.

How Kenya’s evangelical president has fallen out with churches

0

William Ruto, who became Kenya’s president two years ago riding on the crest of the Christian vote, has been visibly shaken to find that over the last few months church leaders of all creeds are losing faith in him – seeing him less as a saviour and more as the greedy biblical tax collector.

In the run-up to his victory, some of his most ardent evangelical supporters had dubbed him “David”, after the shepherd boy in the Bible who rose to become king.

The opposition had baptised him “deputy Jesus”, accusing him of using Christianity to gain political capital as he attended church services from Catholic masses to the gatherings of obscure sects.

He would wear the appropriate religious attire for each setting, sometimes knelt in supplication and on occasion was moved to tears by sermons.

Afterwards, he credited God for his electoral success, and continued this practice of criss-crossing the country to attend a different church each Sunday.

But following massive opposition to the tax hikes imposed by his government, the 57-year-old gained a new nickname: “Zakayo” – which is Swahili for Zacchaeus, the wealthy and unpopular Jericho tax collector featured in the Bible.

The president has always maintained that if people want better public services and a reduction in the country’s debt burden, they have to pay up.

Over the last two years, taxes on salaries have gone up, the sales tax on fuel has doubled and people are also paying a new housing levy and a health insurance tax that is yet to benefit many Kenyans.

When momentous anti-tax protests erupted in June, the young people who led them, popularly referred to as Gen Zs, also called out churches for being too close to politicians and allowing them to preach from their pulpits.

Their anger forced the government to retract a controversial finance bill that had included more tax increases – and it woke up the churches, whose clergy began to openly criticise Ruto and his policies.

This too was a momentous development as the faith economy is big business in a country where more than 80% of the population are Christian – and a fundraiser with the right politician can greatly improve the fortunes of a church.

Last month, Teresia Wairimu, founder of Faith Evangelistic Ministries (Fem), a church in the capital, Nairobi, where Ruto and his family have frequently worshipped, suggested their King David was heading back to the field where sheep grazed.

“As a voter, I’m embarrassed,” she said in her sermon.

Another sermon by Rev Tony Kiama of the River of God Church recently went viral after he called out Ruto’s government for “not serving God’s purpose but an evil one”, citing the killings during the recent protests, the rising cost of living and every-day corruption.

The most hard-hitting criticism was last week’s statement from Catholic bishops, who carry more weight because of the respect and influence they command in Kenya.

They accused Ruto’s government of perpetuating a “culture of lies”, citing unfulfilled campaign promises.

“Basically, it seems that truth does not exist, and if it does, it is only what the government says,” the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops said, also hitting out at corruption, greed and over-taxation that was stifling the economy.

One bishop dubbed Kenya an “Orwellian dystopian authoritarian” state, where dissent was met “with intimidation, abduction or even assassination”.

This was a pointed reference to the 60 people who died and the 1,300 others arrested during the anti-tax demonstrations. A further 74 people have been abducted and 26 reported missing in the last five months, according to the state-run Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.

The stinging statement by the bishops was followed by the Church’s rejection of a $40,000 (£32,000) donation make by Ruto when he attended the Soweto Catholic Church in Nairobi last Sunday – with the Archbishop of Nairobi citing “ethical concerns and the need to safeguard the Church from being used for political purposes”.

Many of Kenya’s Christians are Catholic – about 10 million people, or 20% of the population, according to government statistics.

Other Christians belong to a variety of evangelical churches and other denominations, including the Anglican Church of Kenya and the Presbyterian Church.

And the Catholic Church’s influence in Kenya goes beyond its congregation owing to its wide investment in education, healthcare and other social programmes.

It has also been angered by the chaotic transition to a new social health insurance scheme, with the government owing millions of dollars to faith-based hospitals.

The bishops’ outspoken assessment of the state of the nation has reminded Kenyans of the role church leaders played when they pushed for a return to multi-party democracy in the 1990s.

Brave clerics such as Ndingi Mwana a’Nzeki of the Catholic Church, Alexander Muge, Henry Okullu and David Gitari of the Anglican Church and Timothy Njoya of the Presbyterian Church fearlessly challenged the repressive and single-party rule of then-President Daniel arap Moi.

But analysts say under Moi’s successors – Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, both Catholics – clerics lost their voice.

“Under President William Ruto, things got even worse because important elements of the church were seemingly co-opted into the feeding trough,” veteran journalist and columnist Macharia Gaitho wrote in Kenya’s Daily Nation newspaper this week, suggesting “churches were bribed into silence”.

The Catholic bishops’ stance has won support from other denominations, as well as Muslim clerics – despite the widespread faith-based support Ruto enjoyed previously for his tough stand on gay rights and his conservative views on abortion.

A joint statement by some Pentecostal and evangelical leaders hailed the bishops for their bravery and also for “doing the unthinkable” in rejecting Ruto’s money.

Head of the Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit, who led national prayers on the day Ruto was declared winner of the presidential race, joined Catholic bishops in condemning what he described as “escalating misrule, impunity, and widespread rights violations”.

“In the circumstances, we should not simply fold our hands and pray for miracles,” Ole Sapit said, adding that the Catholic bishops reflected the feelings of many Kenyans.

Baptist cleric Daniel Wambua added that religious leaders were now determined to end the “transactional relationship” with the state.

Meanwhile Sheikh Abubakar Bini, chair of the North Rift Council of Imams and Preachers of Islam, urged the government to take the bishops’ remarks as advice rather than criticism.

At first, Ruto and his allies hit back – one accusing the bishops of spreading “misinformation”.

But analysts say Ruto, who frequently uses the scriptures to respond to critics, should be wary of a direct confrontation with the churches as even smaller ones can have thousands of followers who could negatively affect his re-election bid.

The president is already facing rebellion in parts of his 2022 political strongholds after the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua last month.

They fell out over the handling of the anti-tax demonstrations, which have rocked Ruto’s administration to its core.

A close ally of the president, MP Oscar Sudi, has taken to X to eat some humble pie, apologising to Catholic bishops on behalf of the government.

Ruto himself has since appeared to soften his response to the growing criticism, saying he has heard the clerics and is ready to engage further.

“We have made undeniable progress in our country. However, there remains much to be done. We must continue working together to hasten the delivery of our commitments and change Kenya,” he tweeted on Thursday.

What Kenya’s first evangelical Christian president is having to accept is that the churches he used so successfully to take state house could well help unseat him in the next election.

“He knows he cannot fight the church,” said Mr Gaitho.

Russia gave North Korea oil and anti-air missiles in exchange for 10,000 soldiers

0

Russia has reportedly provided North Korea with oil, anti-air missiles, and economic support in exchange for troops to aid Moscow’s war effort in Ukraine, according to government officials and a research group.

The United States and South Korea have accused North Korea of sending over 10,000 soldiers to support Russia, with experts suggesting Kim Jong Un is seeking advanced military technology and battlefield experience for his troops in return.

South Korea’s top security advisor, Shin Won-sik, revealed that equipment and anti-aircraft missiles aimed at bolstering North Korea’s air defenses have been delivered. “It has been identified that equipment and anti-aircraft missiles aimed at reinforcing Pyongyang’s vulnerable air defense system have been delivered to North Korea,” Shin told broadcaster SBS, adding that North Korea had also received “various forms of economic support.”

The non-profit research group Open Source Centre reported that Pyongyang has acquired oil shipments from Russia. Citing satellite imagery, the group stated that North Korean oil tankers had made 43 trips to a Russian oil terminal over the past eight months, with tanks leaving nearly full after arrival. British Foreign Secretary David Lammy was quoted as saying the oil was payment for weapons and troops provided by Pyongyang.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin deepened their alliance in June by signing a strategic partnership treaty. The agreement obligates both countries to provide military assistance “without delay” in the event of an attack and to cooperate internationally to counter Western sanctions. Putin described the treaty as a “breakthrough document.”

Analysts believe North Korea’s involvement in Ukraine represents a recalibration of its foreign policy. By sending troops and military support, Pyongyang appears to be positioning itself as a key player in Russia’s war economy, potentially sidestepping its traditional reliance on China. In return, Russia could offer North Korea access to its extensive natural resources, including oil and gas.

North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, during a recent visit to Moscow, affirmed her country’s unwavering support for Russia. She described Moscow’s actions in Ukraine as a “sacred struggle” and expressed confidence in Putin’s leadership, stating, “We will stand firmly by our Russian comrades until victory day.”

Both North Korea and Russia face extensive UN sanctions—Pyongyang for its nuclear weapons program and Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine. When asked about North Korean troop involvement, Putin deflected, focusing on his criticism of Western support for Ukraine. While North Korea has claimed any deployment of its troops to Russia would comply with international law, it has not officially confirmed sending soldiers.

This development has prompted a shift in tone from South Korea, which has historically refrained from supplying lethal aid to Ukraine but has recently signaled a possible change in policy.

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe Cries Uncontrollably in Court

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe Cries Uncontrollably in Court

Former First Lady Grace Mugabe was overcome with emotion and cried uncontrollably while testifying in a theft case involving stolen property belonging to her late husband, former President Robert Mugabe.

Grace Mugabe Cries Uncontrollably in Court Over Stolen Family Belongings
During the trial at Harare Magistrates’ Court, Grace Mugabe broke down as suits and shirts stolen from her late husband were presented to her. The incident was so distressing that Magistrate Esthere Chivasa had to adjourn proceedings briefly to allow her to regain composure.

The case involves four former employees—Allen Chinamonya (42), Danmore Chinamonya (35), Samson Karonga, and Tendai Bunganirwa—accused of unlawful entry and theft of household items from the former First Family.

In her testimony, Grace Mugabe revealed that Allen, the family’s former driver, was caught with some of the stolen goods. She also expressed her suspicion that Karonga was the mastermind, noting his involvement in previous theft incidents.

Details of the Alleged Theft
However, the defendants’ lawyer, Renetty Takudzwa Kuchidza, stated that his clients deny all charges. The suspects argued that the containers, which held the stolen items, were stored in a car park accessible to many people. They also claimed that some items were given to them as gifts by the late Robert Mugabe for their loyalty to his family.

The court heard that in 2018, Grace Mugabe moved 11 containers filled with household goods to her Blue Roof residence after her husband retired. She secured the containers with padlocks, but between 2018 andMay 2024, the accused allegedly broke into the containers, stealing items such as clothing, television sets, cutlery, and towels.

Police Investigation and Recoveries
On May 22, while selecting artefacts to donate to the African Liberation Museum, Mrs. Mugabe discovered broken locks and missing items. She reported the theft to Superintendent Kennedy Fero, who informed Borrowdale Police Station.

Following investigations, detectives searched the suspects’ residences. At Allen Chinamonya’s home, police recovered suits, bed covers, and a television set. Suits and shirts were also found at Danmore Chinamonya’s house, and Mrs Mugabe identified them as part of the stolen property.

The total value of the stolen property is estimated at US$500,000, although only goods worth US$2,000 have been recovered so far.

Diddy has claimed that his ‘reputation has been destroyed’ as he made a third bail application

0

Diddy has claimed that his ‘reputation has been destroyed’ as he made a third bail application while awaiting trial on s3x trafficking charges.

The disgraced hip hop mogul is accused of organizing orgies called ‘Freak Offs’ in which women were drugged and forced into marathon-long s3x sessions, sometimes with male prostitutes.

He recently slammed the ‘allegations and aggressive and deceptive media tactics’ by prosecutors had already shredded his public image and only an acquittal could reverse that.

Diddy claimed the charges that he ran a decade-long criminal enterprise were ‘fictional’ and that prosecutors were putting a ‘theatrical spin’ on the truth.

The 55-year-old hitmaker, real name Sean Combs, sought to discredit his accusers – including his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.

Diddy said that a second ‘victim’ wasn’t even a victim because she was ‘voluntarily intimate with Mr. Combs for years’.

He has denied s3x trafficking and racketeering among other charges and is due to go on trial in May of next year.

Diddy has already been denied bail twice, including a $50million bail package involving round-the-clock monitoring by security guards and home detention.

A hearing is due to take place on Friday at the federal court in New York for this third attempt to get free.

In his third bail application, Diddy’s lawyers wrote: ‘Mr Combs fully intends to face these charges.

‘The prospect of a conviction does not materially change his incentives here, where his reputation has already been destroyed by the government’s allegations and aggressive and deceptive media tactics, and can only be rebuilt by winning at trial’.

Diddy’s legal team took aim at the two victims cited by prosecutors in their legal filings for the previous bail applications.

They said that the ‘narrative the government presented was fictional’ and that they were putting a ‘theatrical spin’ on things.

The filing criticized the security camera video of Diddy attacking Ventura at the Intercontinental Hotel on March 5, 2016, and claimed that the full version is not as damning as the version leaked to CNN.

In fact, it was just a ‘sad glimpse into a decade-long consensual relationship’, the filing from Diddy’s lawyers states.

They said that the shocking footage was ‘edited’ and ‘manipulated’ to make it look worse than it was.

The incident was merely a ‘domestic dispute in which he ran down the hall of the hotel to recover his clothes and cellphone’.

Nor is there ‘one piece of evidence’ backing up the claim Ventura was trafficked, the document states.

Diddy’s lawyers also say that there is ‘no second victim at all’ as the second victim in the indictment was ‘voluntarily intimate with Mr. Combs for years’.

Prosecutors have argued that Diddy continues to obstruct justice while in prison, and that no set of bail conditions would stop him from influencing the jury and tampering with witnesses.

They brought up a video his children posted on his birthday earlier this month as evidence that he is coordinating a ‘public relations’ campaign from behind bars.

In their filing, Diddy’s lawyers fired back and said: ‘Grasping at straws, the government makes much of Mr Combs’ request that his family make an Instagram post to celebrate his birthday.

‘We do not believe that a social media post showing his family’s love and birthday wishes violated the court’s order, even if it presents him in a more positive light than the overwhelmingly unfavorable media coverage which has dominated the public narrative about Mr Combs for the past year’.

During the hearing on Friday, the judge is expected to deal with questions about alleged prosecutorial misconduct which Diddy’s lawyers say could lead to the case being dismissed.

LeBron James Barraged With Diddy Allegations From Conservative Haters

0

LeBron James recently announced a social media break on Twitter after speaking out against the constant negativity in the sports media world. Well, those weren’t his direct words, but he did retweet a message from Rick Kleiman about the topic, later letting followers know that he’s temporarily heading off the grid. “And with that said I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care,” the NBA superstar shared. This prompted a lot of responses that baselessly connected him to the Diddy scandal, and many of them curiously came from more conservative individuals. We’re unaware of other contexts that maybe caused this specific response, but it was an odd phenomenon to witness.

Of course, LeBron James probably isn’t worried about any of that stuff, as he has other pressing extracurricular matters to attend off the court. They will lead some hate his way regardless thanks to his massive status, such as a lawsuit against him and Netflix for alleged copyright infringement. Many folks blasted this alleged move and brought more clowning out of it, but such is the nature of Internet discourse.

But LeBron James being off social media means we won’t have to hear about his bizarre dreams any more, which is surely a plus for many fans out there. “Just woke up from having a dream I was playing for Duke for Coach K inside Cameron Indoor Stadium!” he tweeted the other day. “It was INSANE in there. Told Coach K it was an honor to suit up for him and he said the same thing back to me. He’s such a LEGEND! Then….. It turned right into a concert. Snoop & Dre were the performers and they was doing the song ‘The Next Episode.’ The roof inside Cameron damn near came off! Haha. Then my [alarm] went off and I woke up.” Cool story, Bron…

Meanwhile, another possible cause for this social media break is some recent teasing around how much LeBron James spends on his body. But we have no idea why conservatives in particular would barrage him with this Diddy narrative over this social media break. We get that they’re peeved about the Kamala Harris endorsement, but still

Mystery in South Sudan after sacked spy boss mired in gun battle

0

Confusion and mystery linger in South Sudan after the home of once-powerful former spy chief Gen Akol Koor Kuc was rocked by deadly gunfire.

The battle lasted for more than 50 minutes on Thursday night, prompting locals in the capital city of Juba to close their businesses and remain indoors for their safety.

Gen Kuc, once a key member of President Salva Kiir’s inner circle, was sacked last month from his post as the head of the National Security Services (NSS) and was placed under house arrest last week.

Two soldiers and two civilians were shot dead following a “serious misunderstanding” among troops deployed to Gen Kuc’s home, an army spokesperson told the BBC.

Gen Kuc was safe after the incident, army spokesperson Major-General Lul Ruai Koang told the BBC after the gunfire subsided.

The authorities have not revealed what sparked the “misunderstanding” at the residence of Gen Kuc.

Despite the 2018 peace agreement to end the five-year civil war, insecurity is still rife in many parts of South Sudan, including the capital and its peripheries.

However, in a press conference on Friday evening, Gen Koang gave the death toll and said that the two civilians killed in the incident had been a student and a lawyer. The pair had happened to be near Gen Kuc’s residence in Thongping suburb and were caught in the crossfire.

In addition to the two soldiers who were killed, two others were wounded.

Gen Koang told the BBC an investigation into the cause of Thursday’s shooting was being set up.

He said prior to the incident Gen Kuc’s movement had been “restricted” – but the army spokesperson was not able to say why this decision had been made.

After former spy chief was told about this restriction, “additional security forces” were deployed to his residence, Gen Koang said.

“We had a platoon-sized force that was deployed outside his residence, and we had a smaller force… inside the compound.

“Then we do not know what happened. There was a very serious misunderstanding between the two forces which resulted in exchange of gunfire,” Gen Koang said.

He said that after receiving reports of the shooting, the head of South Sudan’s defence forces, Gen Santino Deng, rushed to the scene and ordered the forces to stop firing.

Gen Kuc has been transferred from his home in Thongping to his second residence in the suburb of Jebel, which sits south of Juba, Gen Koang said.

On 2 October, President Kirr announced he had sacked the general in a presidential decree. However, he did not give his reasons for the move.

Analysts said Gen Kuc’s sacking may have signalled an internal power-struggle – with some believing the general may have been lined up to one day take over from the 73-year-old president.

It is not known how old the former spy is – but he is believed to be in his late 50s or early 60s.

After being removed from the post of spy chief, Gen Kuc was appointed governor of the president’s home state, Warrap.

Some believed the move could help to quell the violence in Warrup, one of South Sudan’s conflict hotspots. The job as governor would also have given Gen Kuc experience in a civilian role, which some believed may have been a way of preparing him for political life.

However, just a few days later, Gen Kuc’s governor role was revoked by the president.

Marcus Fakana: 18-year-old Briton held in Dubai for holiday romance with 17-year-old, faces 20 years in jail

0

After engaging in sexual relations with a 17-year-old London-born girl, Marcus Fakana, 18, is currently facing jail time in the United Arab Emirates. He met her during a vacation in Dubai.

Though she has since turned 18, Fakana told the Detained in Dubai group, “We really liked each other, but she was secretive with her family because they were strict. My parents knew about our relationship but she couldn’t tell hers. She had to meet me without telling them it was to see a boy.”

The two had anticipated to resume their romance in the UK after the girl went back home. However, Fakana claimed that police arrived at his family’s hotel in Dubai, where he was arrested without being given a reason.

He was jailed for three days, according to Sky News, and unable to contact his parents.

Fakana was arrested after the girl’s mother discovered his conversations and photos with her daughter back in the UK and alerted Dubai police.

In the United Kingdom, their relationship would be legal.

According to Radha Stirling, the CEO of Detained in Dubai, “Dubai has only recently legalised out-of-wedlock sex for tourists but still hosts a strict Islamic legal system.” Tourists are allowed to have extramarital sex as long as both partners are at least 18.

The country’s severe restrictions on extramarital sex, according to advocates, could, however, land the kid in prison for up to 20 years.

Stirling informed the BBC that the teen’s parents, who work in a warehouse and a cleaner, “don’t know what to do” and have been forced to return to London without their child in order to return to their jobs.

She went on: “It’s a unique case in that it’s the first one we’ve brought to the media where it’s a British citizen and where the age difference is so small.”

“We are not talking about any abuse or taking advantage of anyone. This is clearly just a case of two older teenagers, both of them now the same age, who have been caught up because a mother reported the behaviour.”

Stirling stated, “The girl was just a few months younger than Marcus and he didn’t know that at the time. Since his arrest, she has turned 18. This is not something Dubai should be prosecuting.”

The CEO noted how unfair netizens felt the situation was after they heard it. “That would ruin their son’s life, the whole family’s lives. Is that worth it?”

Though he is no longer detained in a police cell, Fakana cannot leave the nation, and his family must pay £2,000 ($2,500) for Airbnb lodging until his case is settled.

Fakana’s parents have Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who is also their local MP, to step in.

The teen told Detained in Dubai: “[My family] saved up for this one-off holiday and have now used all of their savings.”

His trial is set for December 9.

Israeli Prime Minister ‘will be arrested if he enters the UK’

0

UK Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer has backed the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

This comes after the Hague-based court issued warrants for Netanyahu and his former defence minister Yoav Gallant, as well as the leader of Hamas.

Britain, along with 123 other members of the ICC, will now be obliged to detain Netanyahu ‘on sight’ under international law.

A spokesperson for Downing Street said the Government respected the court and refused to rule out he would be arrested if he landed on British soil – comments which have been widely interpreted as supportive of the decision.

He said: ‘We respect the independence of the ICC.’

No10 added there was no ‘moral equivalence’ between the democratically elected leader of Israel and terrorist leaders, and that Israel has a right to defend itself.

The ICC warrant would, nevertheless, need to be ratified by a UK court before it becomes valid, it is understood.

The warrants against Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant focus on allegations Israel has used food as a weapon in its campaign against Hamas in Gaza, a charge Israeli officials deny.

Experts have warned that hunger has become widespread across Gaza and may have reached famine levels in the north of the territory, which is under siege by Israeli troops.

The action by the International Criminal Court came as the death toll from Israel’s campaign in Gaza passed 44,000 people, according to local health authorities, who say more than half of those killed were women and children.

Netanyahu condemned the arrest warrant against him, saying Israel ‘rejects with disgust the absurd and false actions’ by the court. In a statement released by his office, he said: ‘There is nothing more just than the war that Israel has been waging in Gaza.’

The decision turns Netanyahu and the others into internationally wanted suspects and could further isolate them, as well as complicate efforts to negotiate a cease-fire.

‘We are not going to get into hypotheticals. We remain focused on pushing for an immediate ceasefire to bring an end to the devastating violence,’ the Prime Minister’s official spokesman said when asked if the UK would obey the warrant.

Snoop Dogg defends Jay-Z’s pick for Super Bowl halftime after backlash over Lil Wayne snub

0

There was mixed reaction online after Kendrick Lamar was announced as the headline performer for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show. Since the event is going to take place in New Orleans, a section of fans called out Jay-Z and his Roc Nation company for snubbing Lil Wayne, who hails from the city.

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation company has been producing the Super Bowl Halftime Show over the last five years after inking a deal with the NFL. The legendary rapper is also the NFL’s live music entertainment strategist.

Snoop Dogg, who was one of the headline performers at the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show in Los Angeles, defended Roc Nation’s choice when he appeared as a guest for the live episode of Drink Champs at ComplexCon 2024, Complex reported.

The veteran Los Angeles rapper touched on the topic when the show’s co-host N.O.R.E. asked what he thought about people feeling that the Super Bowl Halftime Show should now feature performers from the city where the event is taking place. Besides Snoop Dogg, the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime show featured other West Coast artists including Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, and Anderson .Paak.

“Since y’all performed at the Super Bowl and that Super Bowl happened to be in Los Angeles, it’s this big thing that’s going on right now that everyone thinks that wherever the Super Bowl takes place, that artists that’s there is supposed to…” N.O.R.E. said in reference to Lil Wayne’s reaction after Kendrick Lamar was picked as the headline performer at next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.

“What we need to think about is that before Jay-Z got control of the Super Bowl wasn’t no n**gas performing. So let’s go back to the essence of the beginning of bridge,” Snoop Dogg explained.

“He’s creating a wave of artists to have an opportunity to perform. If you are a good artist and you are a great artist, your time will come,” the 53-year-old said. “I was never crying about it or mad about it when Dr. Dre called me and asked me to get his back. I was there for him, but I didn’t feel like I was supposed to be there. I was in demand to be there.”

The Gin and Juice rapper added: “This is a big event. People looking at everything when they picked the person to perform, you should just be honored that hip-hop is being able to be seen on that platform for all of us and not hate on the next.”

Snoop Dogg’s comments came after Lil Wayne reacted with disappointment over not being picked to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show, saying that it “hurt a lot.” Fellow New Orleans rapper Birdman and former Young Money signee Nicki Minaj also condemned Roc Nation’s decision.

Serena Williams: Tennis Superstar Intensifies Divorce Rumors With Anniversary Tribute

Divorce rumors surrounding Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian have intensified after the couple exchanged a wedding anniversary message, which followers think leaves much to be desired.

Saturday, November 17, marked seven years of their marriage, and they both took to Instagram to exchange kind words with each other.

Serena wrote: “7 years has gone so fast… Happy anniversary, [Alexis Ohanian] thank you for being the best dad to our girls, Olympia Ohanian and Adira Ohanian…Thanks for also making an average November day a costume party and making it special,” adding a few pictures of her husband.

Alexis also shared a family portrait and added, “7 years ago today, we got married here. Now we get to bring these two for beignets. Happy Anniversary…Thanks for giving me the two greatest humans we’ve ever met. You’re an amazing mama. I’m very lucky to have met you,” he said, tagging Williams and the children.

These messages were, however, not attractive to some followers who observed how the couple focused their anniversary messages on their children instead of displaying public affection.

“Hope everything is still going strong with you all! Staying together for the kids is commendable regardless,” a user wrote. “Agreed, nothing about love. only compliments on parenting,” another added.

Another follower asked, “Nothing about you guys being happy to be married to each other?” All of these were to suggest that there was some sort of uneasy calm between the couple.

In October this year, Serena made a post about someone “stealing her joy”, which later sparked divorce rumors among some of her fans.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this (maybe no one), but if someone, even someone close to you is robbing you of your joy, it’s ok to walk away,” William’s post read.

Many X users reacted with mixed opinions, saying it was appropriate to divorce, but others held divergent views.

“If that someone close to you is your spouse, you try to work it out rather than walk away because there’s no such thing as a perfect marriage,” one user replied.

Another person responded: “If your own spouse is robbing you of your joy, then what is there to work out? That’s not an imperfect marriage; that’s hell….” You are not in that situation, are you? We cannot deal with bad news at the moment,” another added.

Serena Williams did not confirm that the person “robbing” her “joy” was her husband, Ohanian. However, some observers believe she could still walk out of the marriage if things were not right.

Nigeria wants extradition of separatist arrested in Finland

Nigerian officials say they will seek the extradition of a controversial leader of a banned secessionist movement in Nigeria following his arrest in Finland on terrorism charges.

Simon Ekpa, a Finnish citizen of Nigerian origin, says he leads a faction in exile of the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) – a group that is fighting for a breakaway state in south-eastern Nigeria.

The Nigerian authorities want him to “face justice” in Nigeria, where he is accused of using social media to instigate violence.

Ekpa has previously denied any links to the current killings and violence in Nigeria’s south-east, where a bloody civil war was fought in the late 1960s.

He links himself to Ipob and describes himself as the “prime minister of the Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile”.

However, Ipob, which is banned in Nigeria, has dissociated itself from Ekpa.

In March, the Nigerian army said Ekpa and 96 others were wanted for terrorism, violent extremism and secessionist threats.

Ekpa lives in Lahti city, north of the Finnish capital, Helsinki, where he serves as a local representative for Finland’s conservative National Coalition Party, according to the AFP news agency.

On Thursday, Finnish detectives said he had incited “violence against civilians and public authorities and in other crimes in south-east Nigeria” while in Finland.

“He has carried out this activity by campaigning, for example, on his social media channels,” Otto Hiltunen, the head of Finnish National Bureau of Investigation, said.

Detectives said the investigation involved international co-operation, but they did not clarify if Nigeria was involved.

Four other people were also remanded in custody on suspicion of financing Ekpa’s activities.

It is not clear if the Nigerian authorities have yet made a formal extradition request but several senior officials have made it clear they expect him to be tried in the West African country.

“Thank you Finland. See you soon Prime Minister,” Dada Olusegun, special assistant to President Bola Tinubu, posted on X platform, a mocking reference to Ekpa’s self-awarded title.

The Nigeria army has lauded Ekpa’s arrest, describing it as a “key victory” in the fight against terrorism, local media reported.

Tukur Gusau, an army spokesperson, said army chief Christopher Musa was “happy with his arrest in Finland, with the hope this will be a step towards his extradition to Nigeria so that he will face justice”.

Edward Buba, the director of defence media operations, said: “We are delighted about his arrest and glad that the international community is partnering with Nigeria in our fight against terrorism.”

Nigeria has previously made unsuccessful efforts to extradite Ekpa to face prosecution.

Last February, Finnish authorities arrested Ekpa after he threatened to disrupt Nigeria’s 2023 general election, but he was released after a brief interrogation.

The Nigerian army then accused the Finnish government and the European Union of shielding Ekpa.

But a Finnish envoy said then that although the European country was concerned about Ekpa’s activities, his rights as a Finnish citizen needed to be considered.

Ekpa commands a sizable following in parts of south-eastern Nigeria, which have been affected by instability for years because of the conflict between Ipob and the security forces.

He has repeatedly called for sit-at-home protests against the Nigerian government.

Ekpa came to national prominence after he announced on his Facebook page in 2021 that Ipob leader Nnamdi Kanu had ordered him to assume the role of broadcaster on the group’s radio station, Radio Biafra.

Kanu has been in custody since 2021 when he was arrested in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria for trial.

Ipob was formed in 2012 as a peaceful movement, but launched an armed wing in 2020, saying it was doing so to defend the Igbo ethnic group, though its critics say it has unleashed violence that has caused huge suffering.

A Nigerian court has designated it a “terrorist” organisation.

Police Recover Stolen Items
Acting on a tip-off, police searched Monica Muguti’s home, where she led officers to her wardrobe.

According to H-Metro, recovered items included a Guess Waterpro watch, a Jeep watch, jewellery, a green hip flask written Stanley since 1913 and a pig-shaped gold medal.

These stolen items were from the two robberies that occurred in October and November.

Details of the Christon Bank Robbery
The first robbery occurred on October 26 at a residence on Christon Road, Christon Bank. Armed with machetes and knives and disguised as police officers, the robbers attacked the gardener in his cottage.

After handcuffing him, they entered the main house, tied up the occupants, and ransacked the property.

The gang stole:

US$760 in cash, six cell phones, and jewellery
A gas tank and groceries
A 9mm Walther pistol with live rounds and magazines
The robbers fled in the victims’ blue Toyota Rav 4, later dumping the vehicle and some of the stolen goods in Mazowe.

Goromonzi Farm Robbery: A Second Attack
The second robbery occurred on November 3 at a farm in Goromonzi. The suspects entered through an open kitchen door, wielding pistols and machetes.

The gang restrained the occupants, tied them with laptop cables, and demanded money. Items stolen included:

  • An iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • US$3,000 in cash
  • Clothing, a laptop, and groceries
  • Several firearms, including shotguns

The robbers fled, leaving behind some firearms. The entire incident was captured on CCTV, and the footage went viral on social media.

Arrests and Recovery of Stolen Goods

The police have since arrested two suspects. They apprehended Tafadzwa Chakuteka after his accomplice, Sarezi Shonhiwa, implicated him. Chakuteka then led authorities to his Inkomo Barracks residence, where they recovered a 9mm Walther pistol and ammunition stolen during the Christon Bank robbery.

Investigations are ongoing as the authorities pursue the remaining suspects.

Will.i.am, who revealed he has never bought a house, used his mom’s last $200 to buy a car

Will.i.am, born Williams Adams, is a multifaceted visionary, excelling as a musician, producer, technologist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. As a renowned musician-turned-entrepreneur and seven-time Grammy Award winner, he showcases exceptional creativity. Initially a solo artist, Will.i.am went on to co-found the esteemed musical group Black Eyed Peas.

As co-founder of Black Eyed Peas, he became a worldwide sensation, working with chart-topping artists like Britney Spears while hanging out with tech pioneers like Google cofounder Larry Page.

Along the way, he reinvented himself as a tech entrepreneur, although tech had always been part of his life. Raised by a strong mom in the crime-ridden projects of Los Angeles, he was drawn to tech at a very young age. As such, he specialized in science, engineering, and mathematics while in high school.

However, he left school after struggling with ADD and signing with his first music label at age 17, Forbes reported. His concentration is now on promoting robotics, AI, and technology.

In 2019, Will.i.am was invited by billionaire Reid Hoffman to invest in Inflection AI, a startup aiming to rival OpenAI. He accepted the offer and, through a private investor group, took stakes in OpenAI, Anthropic, Runway, and Hugging Face—each now with multibillion-dollar valuations, Forbes reported.

His latest venture, FYI, is an AI-powered productivity app that enables creatives to collaborate and communicate on projects with digital asset management, Forbes wrote. FYI, also known as Focus Your Idea, is billed as “the first productivity tool designed to serve creatives first”.

During an Afrotech conference recently, the rapper-turned-tech entrepreneur disclosed how the sacrifices of his mother have led him to current success.

“I remember my mom was like, ‘Wait, put your clothes on. You go up here to get our food stamps. Sit in this line to get this cheese,’” he said.

“When you’re in the projects, and that’s your reality, standing in line to get government services, and you’re there, and you’ve got dreams, and you’re like, ‘One day, I want to move my mama out of these projects, and you come outside, and your best friend that you grew up with is no longer with you because he got shot, and you want to dream different—that’ where I get ambition from.”

He recalled how his mother single-handedly raised him and his siblings and still found a way to ensure that their needs were met. Moreover, she influenced Will.i.am’s decision to pursue music because she fostered creativity among her children.

The musician noted that his mother supported his career with her last $200 to help him purchase a car to take him back and forth to the studio.

“I remember I was like, ‘Mom, the next-door neighbor is selling a car for 200 bucks.’ I could use this to go to the studio, and she’s like, ‘Boy, I ain’t got $200.’ I was like, ‘Come on, Mom. I don’t want to take the bus. It’s hot on the streets. I just want to get from here to there,” Will.i.am recalled.

“And then she’s like, ‘Boy, go get my purse. And I and my mom was talking about this. We was in Italy this summer, I’m sorry, we were in Spain this summer, in Greece, and I was like, ‘Ma, remember I asked you for that $200 [and she was like] ‘Yeah, that was my last $200.’”

“[I was like] How did you feed us that month before we had to go get that welfare check the month later. She was like, ‘I knew how much it meant for you to have that car, and I didn’t want to tell you no ’cause I was tired of telling you no when we didn’t have money. And if this was gonna help you on your dream, I just didn’t want to crush your dream.’”

The rapper has also disclosed that he lives in a hotel. The Grammy-winning artist told People, “As far as the idea of ‘I made it,’ I don’t think I made it, because every milestone takes me to the next milestone. I’m making it. I’ve never had a house.

“I bought myself a studio. I have my office, but I stay in a hotel. I don’t have a house because I ain’t bought the house that says, ‘I made it.’”

I have it all here ;whatever a manager could wish for – Man City’s Pep after signing 2 year contract extension

0

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has extended his stay at the club by signing a new two-year deal, keeping him in charge until 2027.

The 53-year-old Spaniard, who took the helm in 2016, has led City to an impressive 18 trophies, including six Premier League triumphs.

Guardiola’s previous contract was set to end after the ongoing season, but this renewal solidifies his future at the club. Reflecting on the extension, he expressed gratitude, stating he has “everything a manager could dream of” at City.

“Manchester City means so much to me,” Guardiola told the club’s website.

“This is my ninth season here. We have experienced so many amazing times together. I have a really special feeling for this football club.

“I have said this many times before, but I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that so much.

“Hopefully now we can add more trophies to the ones we have already won. That will be my focus.”

It was reported that Guardiola had agreed a new contract on Wednesday and the club confirmed the news a day later.

‘Hunger for success remains insatiable’

During his time in Manchester, Guardiola has helped City become just the second English men’s team to win the Treble – the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same season.

They have also become the first men’s team to win four successive English top-flight titles and to achieve 100 Premier League points in a single campaign.

“Like every City fan, I am delighted that Pep’s journey with Manchester City will continue, allowing his dedication, passion and innovative thinking to continue to shape the landscape of the game,” City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak added.

“His hunger for improvement and success remains insatiable and the direct beneficiaries of that will continue to be our players and coaching staff, the culture of our club, and the English game at large.”

Manchester City currently sit second in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by five points, while grappling with an unprecedented run of four consecutive defeats in all competitions.

For Guardiola, this marks the first time in his managerial career—excluding penalty shootouts—that he has faced such a series of losses.

The announcement of Guardiola’s contract extension comes amid ongoing scrutiny over a Premier League investigation into 115 alleged breaches of financial regulations by the club. While City have denied the allegations, the case’s outcome could result in significant repercussions if wrongdoing is confirmed.

Despite the controversy, Guardiola has remained steadfast in his support for City, urging critics to hold off judgment until the investigation is concluded.

With Jurgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool last summer, Guardiola now stands as the Premier League’s longest-tenured manager.
