PEOPLE’S PACT QUESTIONS ECZ 2026 ROADMAP
The People’s Pact has raised alarm over the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s revised roadmap for the 2026 elections.
In a statement, Friday, their position is that the absence of clear delimitation timelines creates a dangerous procedural void.
Pact Vice‑President Strategy, Peter Sinkamba emphasised that respect for the Judiciary remains paramount.
Mr Sinkamba stressed that while the Constitutional Court dismissed their interim application, substantive issues are still pending.
He highlighted that attending the consultative meeting shows their commitment to constitutional order.
Mr Sinkamba observed that the compressed schedule between consultations and voter register inspections undermines credibility.
He warned that the legal life of the current 156 constituencies expires just before the election.
Mr Sinkamba underscored that without urgent delimitation, voters risk disenfranchisement.
He cautioned that candidates may face a nomination crisis if boundaries are not finalised by May.
Mr Sinkamba argued that ignoring census data creates constitutional uncertainty.
He reaffirmed their petition before the Constitutional Court to prevent a defective electoral map from being cemented.

This will be the most confused Elections in the History of Zambia. Potential Candidates don’t even know where they will contest.
Polling stations are going to be moved… Meanwhile Wards won’t be delimited. What this means is that some wards will cover two or more Constituencies. If ECZ moves the ward to one Constituency, some Constituencies won’t have wards!
The normal thing to do is increase of branches, then Wards , then Constituencies.
You can’t increase the Constituencies at the Top without increasing the Wards at the base ! If Constituencies are big, then even the wards should be big..They will need more than 1 Councilor.
If the issue of delimitation is development, then surely Wards need to be increased!
And where is the Delimitation Report?
And how did government come up with 70 additional Seats?
Vyakulola Vye. Hakainde’s Zambia.
Another example of what I was saying about Saboi. ECZ held a meeting yesterday. They had a question and answer session during the meeting.
Delimitation is about creating or outling boundaries of constitutents. From my ptiful mind and what was said, it means in setting boundary lines. They will set them according to wards so that wards are unaffected.
They have not do so yet nor said so yet; ECZ would like to hear from the public so that as they go about doing so input is obtained from stakeholders. So lets not be presumptious and put what was not said or been said as conclusive.
After April and when the report is out then you can make noise. For now sing a hymn and ask the Spirit for a dose of patience.
