SOCCER FANS WANT KATONGO IN EUROPE NOT AFRICA

Some Zambian soccer fans on social media have not welcomed the news that Copper Queens Midfielder, Evarine Susan Katongo has received an invite from South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns Women’s Team to undergo a trial from 16th to 30th January, 2023.
The fans feel Katongo is better off in Europe and is too good to be summoned for trials as a proven international footballer.
But her current parent club ZISD has defended and justified the move for Katongo to undergo trials at Mamelodi Sundowns.
ZISD General Secretary Elijah, Jani Lungu, has expressed shock at people who are against the move, saying Mamelodi Sundowns is the best-ranked team in Africa and is also among the top 30 female teams in the world.
Lungu wonders why people didn’t criticize the recent move by Green Buffaloes Women’s trio who recently moved to Kazakhstan Champions, Bullk Shymkent, a lower-ranked team in the world in comparison to Sundowns.
He has further clarified that ZISD has not received any European offer for Katongo, hence the Sundowns move being the best at the moment.
Katongo was one of the revelations at the recently held Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and she has been one of the key players in the Copper Queens team.
