🇿🇲 DEVELOPING | Given Lubinda Abducted in Kabwe, Political Temperature Spikes
Patriotic Front Acting President Given Lubinda has been violently attacked and allegedly abducted in Kabwe this afternoon by individuals believed to be UPND cadres, according to PF sources and video footage circulating widely online.
The footage shows Lubinda being manhandled by a group of young men outside a building. Only one of the aggressors is wearing UPND-branded clothing, a detail now shaping public debate as competing narratives emerge about who is responsible and why the incident happened.
PF presidential aspirant Brian Mundubile was first to speak to the media, stating that Lubinda “has been attacked and abducted by suspected UPND cadres” and accusing the ruling party of unleashing political violence ahead of the PF convention.
Reactions from the opposition escalated quickly.
Citizens First leader Harry Kalaba condemned the assault, saying: “If you allow this thuggery and political abductions to continue, soon there will be no Zambia left for any of us to live in or for you to preside over.”

Citizens First leader Harry Kalaba condemned the assault, saying: “If you allow this thuggery and political abductions to continue, soon there will be no Zambia left for any of us to live in or for you to preside over.”
DPP President Antonio Mwanza called it “a direct assault on the rule of law” and demanded immediate arrests.
The first ruling party official to respond was Kabwata MP Andrew Tayengwa, who pushed back sharply, saying:
“PF is a serious criminal organisation. Ba UPND wake up. People are using your regalia to commit serious crimes and you are quiet. These moves are well calculated to discredit this government.”
Tayengwa’s statement mirrors the view circulating within some UPND circles that the attack may be staged or carried out by PF factions themselves, taking advantage of rising tensions inside the party.
Across social media the public is divided. Some insist the violence is linked to this morning’s PF internal implosion, where former Secretary General Davies Mwila rejected Lubinda’s appointments of Dr Chitalu Chilufya and Chanda Katotombwe as illegal.
Others argue that the attack fits into a chain of political hostilities that followed the Chingola stoning of President Hakainde Hichilema.
A segment of commentators is openly suggesting the abduction could be part of PF’s internal war as the convention draws close.
Several posts accuse Lubinda of “rigging the upcoming vote” through last-minute appointments and claim rival factions may have acted out of anger.
Police have not yet issued a statement on the incident, despite the video spreading rapidly across platforms.
This is a developing story, and The People’s Brief is tracking all angles: the PF factional dynamics, the authenticity of the alleged UPND involvement, and the emerging security implications as the country heads toward a tense political year.
More updates to follow.

Footage of PF Acting President Hon. Given Lubinda’s abduction

Jack Mwiimbu, please ensure that this stops. Given Lubinda is a citizen and therefore free to meet his supporters. Those behind his attack must be rounded up and prosecuted.
Thank you for speaking sense. These UPND cadres are getting out of hand because not a single one has ever been arrested. They must have the blessings of those in leadership.
REJECT TRIBALISM, CORRUPTION AND OPPRESSION.
VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2026.
What is this nonsense going on? Someone must pay heavily for some of these irrepairable damage on the image of this ruling party.
One can not just understand the lack of logic regarding this sudden turn of events. With your own hands you want to destroy everything you have built. What a shame.
Some habits can be suppressed for a while but usually find themselves to the surface when enough pressure is applied.
Here we are with this thuggery atitude and behavior which keeps popping up everywhere. We as voters are not going back to those old ways as a country. No never again. Violence and a total discard of the law is something we old and new timers hate with a passion.
May the authorities lock up those illegally taking the law into their own hands. This dent and recklessness will cost dearly soon. Talk about a lack of political intelligence.
This is very suspicious. Let’s all remain calm and await investigations. The truth may surprise us.
You are thinking what am thinking, I can see different story on this picture, I somehow see PF nicely
I agree with you @ Makunku however, all that is needed is to have a spine to ensure law and order is restored there immediately. Swift and decisive action is the only remedy.
We pray his life is safe. We don’t need any one killed just because of Politics. Find this man ASAP and stop this nonsense immediately.
There is something profound that needs to be explained. We the voters understand that politics is a system used to gain leverage with us, we are not interested in the hate games played by participants. We love and respect all political leaders. That is why it is now called Multi party Democracy.
We need more players to have divergent views. Why do these guys want to kill each other. This low thinking is as ignorant as it can get. Very embarrassing and annoying.
I saw this coming immediately when HH was attacked through sponsoring of PF cadres criminals it will bring tension however this nonsense should be stopped and PF criminals should stop sponsoring people on media and start insulting the current government we can do politics without insulting one another.
But what motive would UPND cadres have to disrupt a PF meeting? What will they gain? The chap wearing a UPND T shirt does not fit the narrative and is merely deflecting the criminality to others.
This is one of the other PF factions who have a bone to pick with whomever stands up and declares that he is the anointed.
True and the Perpetrator can be found arrested and prosecuted.
The police should demonstrate that they have capacity to arrest these people and do arrest them. No stories or empty statements. It is tarnishing the country’s image.
Oooh nooo!! Poor Given. I hope he is well. Africa we are still far to conducting ourselves in a civil manner.
These are pf caders dressed in upnd skin, they are playing tricks to portray the ruling party is behind the beating and abduction, Given lubinda should wake-up this pf part publicly said the president will only come from either Eastern or northern province meaning that he is not welcome to contest as a president in this part, why is he forcing himself to be a wolf among the lions, he will just end up being killed for nothing by his on part caders who are sent by his fellow presidential aspirants
The Thugs behind this have been caught on camera. There’s nothing like some conspiracy Theories where we are dealing with shadows. The pictures of the Thugs are there.
The police in Kabwe , please get the pictures, and ask the public to identify those Thugs.
This is a straight forward case. Zambia Police Service, your immediate action is required.
Well said. A true balanced and objective point of view….
Total lawlessness. First the attack on the PF secretariat and now physical attack on individuals. The country has gone to the dogs. Dont forget violence begets violence!
It really does not matter whether the thugs are PF masquerading as UPND cadres or they are a PF rival faction. The bottom line is the police must do their work and bring the perpetrators of this crime to book.
There is absolutely no excuse for the police to be pussy footing over this issue. The video evidence is there. For once, the police must do their job instead of wasting time chasing after innocent motorists to extort money from them.
These are criminals, nothing else. To drag an elderly man in such a manner is unacceptable. It goes against civilised behavioural norms.
What does UPND have to benefit by harassing Given? Who’s given to UPND? He’s a nobody. These PF staged dirty games to embarrass UPND. This PF party for thugs has now started their dirty politics and it will continue towards the elections. It’s all in their plans.
