Dainess Kabanana has said “we’ve got mediocre film productions on TV” because production houses are recruiting incompetent family members and girlfriends instead of talented actors and actresses.

The talented actress complained that she has been sidelined by Zambia’s film production houses despite her being a trend setter.

She is amongst the talented actresses who featured in the popular Kabanana drama series.

Dainess accused the production houses of accommodating family members because they have seen that the film industry is now a valuable investment.

“People are just coming from anywhere just because the industry is now making money. I and the few others started this when there was no money. I’m so proud to say I’m a trend setter. I’m one of the trend setters. This is why even the Dainess has stood a test of time. Because I nailed it, I did it with passion,” she said when she appeared on KBN TV.

“So now when there’s money, when there’s the coming in of Zambezi Magic on board, when the cooperate world is realizing that film industry is an investment, they are pumping in money. Why should I be sidelined? It is so sad.”

The actress said the film industry needs the content that Zambians can relate to.

“When we set the trend and you find that productions now are now bringing you in. They are bringing in their families, their girlfriends. And this is why you’re seeing that we’ve got mediocre film productions on TV. You’ll find that the story line started so well then it eventually gets distorted,” she said.

“Is that we want? We need to see something that is closer, something we can relate to in our daily lives. We should not go to the western world.”
