PRESIDENT HICHILEMA REGRETS CURRENT PROLONGED LOAD-SHEDDING

President Hakainde Hichilema has described as regrettable, the current energy crisis which has resulted in prolonged load-shedding of over 20 hours.

President Hichilema says he sympathizes with the general public on the challenges they are encountering as a result of the shortage of electricity which has also resulted in low productivity.

Speaking when he opened the 4th Session of the 13th National Assembly under the theme: “enhancing national resilience, sustaining social economic gains in the midst of climate change, the President has advised the general public to take interest in net metering a measure being implemented in response to the energy challenges being experienced in the country.

He says Zambia is in urgent need of revitalizing its energy sector as a way of enhancing productivity.

And the head of state has also disclosed that government will work diligently to address the current high cost of living that has been exacerbated by the global economic challenges such as high interest rates, lack of capital, high inflation and domestic challenges.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema has assured that government will continue to formulate laws aimed at combatting illegal mining in the country which he has described as rampant and a threat to national security.

The head of state who has acknowledged that illegal mining remains one of the biggest challenges his administration is grappling with says only safe and legal mining will be supported by his government.
