The person who was shooting at people was found at a cafe close to where he lives in Schaerbeek, in the northern part of Brussels, on Tuesday morning. The police shot and killed him.

“I really want to say sorry to the people who were hurt and their family members,” Mr Van Quickenborne said while announcing that he is stepping down. I don’t want to hear any reasons.

He said he wanted to be held accountable for this very bad mistake in his political position.

Brussels’ public prosecutor, Tim De Wolf, said that there were not enough staff in his office, which is why they did not respond to the extradition request.

He said that they received the extradition file in September of last year, and it was likely forgotten in a filing cabinet.

None of the coworkers involved can recall what happened to this particular file one year ago. “He said that no one has touched it. ”

The prosecutor did not say why Lassoued was put in jail, but news in Belgium says he was imprisoned for trying to kill two people.

The person who attacked had asked for protection and permission to stay in Norway, Sweden, Belgium, and Italy.

In 2016, the Italian intelligence services found out that he had become an extremist and began watching him closely.

It was also revealed that Lassoued had been in prison in Sweden for two years because he was involved in selling drugs. Swedish media reported that he got arrested in Malmo for having 100 grams (or 3. 5 ounces) of cocaine.
The attack in Brussels has made Sweden very surprised because it caused the death of two men, one in his 70s and the other in his 60s.

Maja, who lives in Brussels and has citizenship in both Sweden and Britain, says that this might be one of the first instances where Swedes have been singled out because of their nationality.

After some people in Sweden burned copies of the Quran, which is a holy book in Islam, the government is telling Swedish citizens that there is more danger to them now.

Books that are important to Muslims have been set on fire outside buildings like embassies, mosques, and the Swedish parliament.

This made Muslim countries very angry, and in August the terror warning level was increased to the second-highest level because of threats from Islamic extremists.

Maja said that she always thought having a Swedish passport was a good thing. “But things have really become different. ”

The Swedish Security Service, called Sapo, said they are working closely with the Belgian authorities.

The Belgian prosecutor is investigating the shooting as a terrorist attack. This incident occurred at a time when there are increased worries about security in Europe due to the Israel-Hamas war.

Belgium has decided to take additional safety precautions because of the attack that happened last week. The Brussels public prosecutor’s office, federal judicial police, and railway police will all receive more staff members.

The sharing of information between the immigration service, the police, and the judiciary will be increased.
