KASUMBALESA BORDER CONGESTION TROUBLES ZRA

By Rogan Labika

The traffic congestion situation at Kasumbalesa border post in Chililabombwe District on the Copperbelt has saddened the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

ZRA Board Chairman Caleb Fundanga says the situation at the border post derails development for both Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The board chairman has wondered why the problem of congestion at the border post has continued despite the two countries signing of a bilateral agreement aimed at reducing congestion by allowing 24 hours operations.

However, Kasumbalesa Border Deputy Commissioner Levy Simatimbe attributes the situation to DR. Congo’s failure to honor the signed bilateral agreement.

Meanwhile, SADC Truck Drivers Association President Eugene Ndlobvu says government should quickly work on the deplorable roads leading to Mokambo and Sakania borders in order to allow trucks to exit the country through the two borders
