MAN ARRESTED FOR MASQUERADING AS LEGAL COUNSEL IN CHOMA DISTRICT

A man from the Mochipapa area in Choma District has been arrested for masquerading as a legal counsel for a named law firm.

Felix Mujibelo, aged 37, was arrested on 21st August 2024 after he was asked by the court to provide his practising certificate number.

Instead, he explained practising as a student and not being admitted to the bar.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, stated that officers from Monze received a complaint from Batoka Chambers alleging that the suspect was posing as a legal counsel.

On 12th August 2024, Mujibelo was in the Monze Subordinate Court representing Musune Chile and Simon Chooye, who was facing a charge of theft of stock.

He had presented himself as legal counsel from Batoka Chambers but was discovered not to be following a complaint letter from the aforementioned firm.

  1. It exposes among a host of things,how porous and weak our systems are in the country as a developing nation. Doesn’t the court verify credibility, or confirm by calling the legal firm to confirm the lawyer is from there ? I think this isn’t the only case in point ,it may have been almost a normal in Zambia. Some credible measures need to be put in place to curtail and deter would be culprits.
