MANGANI, MSONI PLEADS WITH HICHILEMA TO STOP PERSECUTION OF FORMER PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU AND HIS FAMILY

By Fox Reporter
FORMER Minister of Home Affairs in the MMD government, Lameck Mangani has pleaded with President Hakainde Hichilema to stop the persecution of former president Edgar Chagwa Lungu and his family.

And All Peoples Congress (APC) president Nason Msoni has reminded President Hichilema that soon he will be a former president and should reflect on his conduct today.

During a stakeholders press conference held today, Msoni warned that the trend Hichilema was promoting will soon haunt him after leaving power.

“We are raising a red flag while there is still time to address the trajectory we are on as a country. We are on a very dangerous path and need to change course immediately.

I must remind my brother, the President (Hakainde Hichilema) that the traps set for our friends can harm us as well. A President cannot serve as both prosecutor and judge. You have criminalized opposition members and labeled them as criminals,” he warned.

Msoni observed that President Hichilema has reduced the office of the President to witch-hunt against former president Lungu.

“The office of the president has been reduced to witch-hunting former presidents. Recently, I spoke with a regional leader who called me late at night. He questioned why, whenever the government changes in Zambia, it involves arresting the former president. This practice is shameful and tarnishes our international reputation. Under the current leadership, there seem to be double standards. For example, insulting the president’s enemies doesn’t result in police action. Tribal remarks are acceptable as long as they align with the ruling party’s views. This is not sustainable,” he said.

And Mangani has pleaded with President Hichilema to focus on reducing the high cost of mealie meal, unemployment, division in the country instead of persecuting former president Lungu.

“If this trend persists, President Hichilema, his children, his wife, and anyone connected to him will face the same treatment. We have a duty to remind ourselves to follow procedures. Let the police and the courts do their work, but fairness must prevail. We cannot label everyone as criminals,” he said.

  1. Ba Nason Msoni no shame after joining the UPND alliance? Now you have jumped to kasaka ka ndalama.
Bwana Kasaka ka Ndalama has to explain where he got that kasaka ka ndalama from. Already his daughter the lawyer has willingly uncontested the forieture of assets she knows were of a questionable source. Ba MP daughter who is not a lawyer is trying to resist only to implicate her father as the source. The wife’s source and attempts to hide the US $400,000 is the source of public redicule and embarassment. Lungu and his outbursts border on attempts to upsurp the current government (and he like any citizens) just been asked to explain to the Police what he meant when he suggests that government will be removed. That borders on criminality. As a lawyer Lungu knows better than that.
He will leave the country with his family like the former Sudanese leader and convict while setting the country alight. Is that what you and your cohorts want?
Let due process work on the matters that are in court. Let law enforcement do their work. No one is above the law. Justice is blind to who Lungu is or was. Stop being parots without objective thought and self serving Zambia is for all of us. We want law and order as well as peaceful coexistence, not people who dance at the whims of money and self serving patronage

    • Hakainde refuses to disclose how he became a millionaire after the privatisation of the mines during the Chiluba regime and why he has stached the loot in overseas tax havens.

  2. Let us send a very clear message to our leaders. If you abuse national resources for personal gain, you will have to face the full consequences of your selfish actions.

We are tired of our so called leaders stealing our resources and getting away without so much as a slap. Basically, the message so far has been that that you can loot the national treasury and thereafter enjoy the proceeds in absolute peace. Zambia has been a looters’ paradise. We must put a stop to this practice of glorifying thieves.

We seek justice. There is no persecution of Mr. Lungu. If he is innocent, there is nothing for him and Mr. Mangani to worry about. But if he is guilty, they have every reason to be concerned. No one is above the law.
