HH promises to Lower the Price of Fertiliser from K800 to K250 in August when elected

0

The United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has promised to lower the price of a 50kg bag of fertilizer, which according to him, is currently costing them between K700 and K800.

In a message to his supporters, Mr. Hichilema said that when his party forms the government in August, it will lower the price for the 50 kg bag of fertilizer to K250.

Taunting his vision his party has for Zambia, Mr. Hichilema said that the lowering of the fertiliser to K250 for a 50 kg bag will lead to more production and cheaper foods, adding that it is the way economics works.

Mr. Hichilema further said that his party has the vision to make Zambia a serious food basket for firstly Zambians, the region, and the globe.

and Acting UPND Alliance spokesperson Tabo Kawana has said that M. Hichilema will run agriculture as a business so that farmers are able to sustain their lives and live better lives.

Speaking on 3FM radio in Chipata last evening, Mr Kawana appealed to the people in Eastern province to vote for President Hichilema because he is a farmer and he understands agriculture too well that farmers will never face the problems they have undergone under the Patriotic Front.

“You have faced problems and you even named PF as Paya Farmer because the PF failed to manage agriculture but this won’t be the case, under UPND because President Hakainde knows the right time and quantity of seed packs needed to produce enough crop to feed your families and sale the rest.” says Mr Kawana.

He said President Hichilema will run agriculture as a business where those on FISP will be able to graduate to leave room for more farmers which is not the case under the Patriotic Front.

He also said that all farmers across the nation will benefit unlike a situation now where some farmers are left out while some have remained on the FISP program for a long time without graduating because the PF government has not managed agriculture well.

Meanwhile, Mr Kawana thanked the people in Chipata district for the support given to UPND and President Hakainde Hichilema.

UPND Alliance Acting spokesperson Mr Kawana is in Eastern province to share the vision of the alliance to the people of Eastern province.

HH has ethnically poisoned the people of Southern Province -Kambwili

0

Chishimba Kambwili has maintained that Hakainde Hichilema has ethnically poisoned the people of Southern Province to believing that tribalism was the only strategy for the United Party for National Development (UPND leader to be elected president despite his deficiency in leadership qualities.

Speaking at the fourth Patriotic Front (PF) virtual rally at Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Mr Kambwili said that the UPND was a regional political grouping that Mr Hichilema has been unsuccessfully using to ascend to the country’s presidency.

Mr Kambwili cautioned Zambians against ever allowing Mr Hichilema to come close to State power because the opposition leader would allegedly divide the country into the regional grouping. He said the people of Southern Province were not tribal but that the UPND leader had poisoned the Tonga people to believing that regional politics could change the government.

Mr. Kambwili cautioned Zambians against being euphoric in choosing the leadership of the country because there is a real danger that a change of government would reverse the economic and developmental gains the country has achieved.

Mr Kambwili, who was National Democratic Congress (NDC) president, said Mr Hichilema and the UPND wanted to use him as a springboard to get into State House and dump him immediately after. He claimed that the UPND plans to amend the Constitution should Zambians inadvertently vote for Mr Hichilema to introduce a clause that would give power to the president to fire the vice president.

Mr Kambwili also said that UPND have secretly been admitting and envying President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s successes on his developmental accomplishment, which has forced the opposition party to launch its campaigns based on propaganda and malice and that, as he was in an alliance with the UPND, Mr. Hichilema used to admit that, indeed President Lungu and the Patriotic Front (PF) had delivered development which had made the opposition party campaigns difficult.

“You know, when I was in alliance with the UPND, Mr Hichilema and his senior leaders used to secretly admit that President Lungu had performed to the expectation of Zambians and it had become difficult for the opposition to campaign. If the UPND and its leadership were sincere, they would have openly admitted that the PF has indeed worked and delivered. But they have embarked on a trajectory of cheating Zambians about the cost of living which propaganda has since beaten the dust and become redundant,” Mr Kambwili said.

Mr Kambwili explained that Zambia had in the last few years suffered from a serious power deficit which had led the country to import electricity at high costs which had negatively affected production in all sectors. He said President Lungu had worked tirelessly to resolve the power deficit and that Zambians were no longer subjected to load shedding.

Mr Kambwili stated that Zambia was currently generating about 2800MW of power but that it was surprising that the UPND was still claiming that President Lungu had done nothing for the country.

Meanwhile, former UPND Vice President Dr. Canisious Banda has said that Zambia is a food secure country not only pleasing domestic market but now one of the leading exporters of grain within the continent. Dr. Banda, who is now a Patriotic Front member, said that the country has recorded a bumper harvest and will meet the local demand.

Speaking during the fourth Patriotic Front virtual rally at Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka this afternoon, Dr. Banda said the agriculture sector is performing well under President Lungu and his administration.

“We have a bumper harvest. Tanzanians are buying soya from here. Zambia is now a food secure country, not only have we pleased the domestic market but now we are one of the leading exporters of grain on the continent. Now the Millers Association of Zambia is giving permits, dollars are coming in, the kwacha will strengthen,” he said.

He also observed the need for the prices of goods and services to be reduced following the appreciation of the Kwacha and further noted that Malawians are bringing their grains into Zambia because the price is competitive and attractive.

Dr. Banda also took time to appreciate the PF manifesto saying it is progressive as compared to the one that was produced by the UPND.

“Let me quickly look at the UPND manifesto 2021 to 2026. If you read Number 8, they talk about eradicating Zesco blackouts. I have told you that their manifesto is redundant, it requires revision. Because what they talk about have been delt with accordingly by President Lungu. UPND manifesto is moribund and it should be thrown into a bin or revised,” he added.

Police teargas fighting PF cadres in Chawama

0

RIOT Police this morning discharged volleys of teargas in Lusaka’s Chawama Compound to halt violent and bloody clashes between two rival PF gangs.

Owing to the chaotic scenes that engulfed the Township today, it could have easily been mistaken for a dangerous war zone in either Somalia, Afghanistan or Iraq.

The latest episode of political violence which not only scathed the combatants but also swallowed innocent locals was between two factions both operating under the banner of PF.

Sources and eyewitness accounts rendered to #kalemba state that hell broke loose when PF Secretary General Davis Mwila was on a tour of PF structures to fortify their resolve to campaign even harder.

All went well in Kanyama Township until the SG’s entourage entered Chawama.

The SG’s procession had all along been protected by a PF security team from Inte City Terminus or ‘Intercity Barracks’ as the cadres prefer to call the place.

However, when the group reached Chawama Township, orphaned ‘soldiers’ of Innocent Kalimanshi ordered the InterCity ‘troops’ to stand back and allow them to take over security of the SG’s entourage so that they could also benefit from handouts from the SG who was in their area especially that they were hungry following the detention of their leader for peddling high quality marijuana.

However, the InterCity group threatened to slap the tears out of the Orphaned Kalimanshi troops.

The InterCity group said that the Amelicans were renegade and no longer part of the PF and would be crushed if their dared even cast their eyes on the SG’s Alebwelalapo dance.

Tensions rose to dynamite fever needing only a small match stick to ignite as the rival gangs stared at each other, none willing to budge.

One could see sewer in the open drains slowing in flow and clouds stopping their heavenly dance as violence looked inevitable.

And all it took was a stone from one of the cadres and all hell broke loose.

The two comrades in green unleashed stones, axes, spears, buttons all manner of medieval weapons on each other.

Some of the projectiles landed on mothers cooking morning porridge on braziers for their infants cold from the Zambian winter sending the Township people crying for dear life as the brothers in green sought to extinguish life out of each other.

After multiple injuries to combatants, private property and innocent bystanders, Police arrived on the scene and took over security dispersing both camps with teargas.

The combatants fled on foot in all directions loose flesh hanging and blood dripping but alive to fight another day.

MUNZAKO NGATI ACHITA, OSAMUCHOSAPO, MULEKE APITILIZE – DR CANISIUS BANDA TELLS HH

…..as he explains that PF Manifesto puts Zambians first whilst that of the opposition prioritises foreigners

LUSAKA, Wednesday 28th July 2021 (SmartEagles)

Ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Member Dr Canisius Banda has advised UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to let President Edgar Chagwa Lungu continue on his development trajectory.

Dr Banda, who is also former UPND Vice President, maintained that most of the things the opposition party is promising have already been done by the PF government under the leadership of His Excellency, President Lungu.

He said during PF Virtual Campaign in Lusaka today that the President has among other things transformed the lives of the youths and women through various empowerment programs.

The former UPND Vice President added that Zambia will soon be the hub of electricity in the region following the launch on the Kafue Gorge Lower Hydropower Station.

“Youths and women, over 3000 cooperatives have been made. They already have been given the money. As we are talking people are working, they are putting money in their pockets,” he said.

“Zambia is going to be the hub of electricity following the launch of the Kafue Gorge Lower Hydropower Station. 150MW has been added to the National Grid. We will be exporting electricity. Poverty will end, Kwacha will continue appreciating against the Dollar. Zambia is now a food secure country. We are one of the leading exporting countries of grain in the region. I was told by Mpezeni that people used to take maize to Malawi because the prices were good but now it’s the Malawians bringing their maize.”

Dr Banda indicated that the President has built over 700 schools and over 500 health posts in the country. He added that over 27000 quality jobs have been created from 2016 to date.

Meanwhile, Dr Banda mentioned that the PF Manifesto places Zambians first whilst that of the opposition prioritises foreigners.

He added that the party has put in measures to ensure that, quarrying, among other businesses is being entirely handled by the locals.

“Making blocks will only be for Zambians, timber processing will be for Zambians only…..Mining gold will be reserved for Zambians. The Gold reserves at BoZ have increased, this explains why Kwacha is appreciating against the Dollar,” he said.

Belgian Honorary Ambassador Diego Casilli Sues Daily Nation For Defamation

0

By Mwaka Ndawa

HONORARY Consul General for Belgium in Zambia Diego Casilli has sued the Daily Nation Newspaper in the Lusaka High Court for defamation for alleging that he had connived with the UPND and some lawyers to oust the ruling PF in the August 12 general elections by sabotaging election results through the parallel voter tabulation (PVT) system.

Casilli, who is the proprietor of East Park mall, is seeking damages for libel on the scandalous, malicious, and libelous article published by Daily Nation against him in its newspaper which appeared on the front pages of its publication.

The businessman wants aggravated damages for the callousness and malice exhibited by Daily Nation in regards to the effect the newspaper article would have on his reputation.

He also wants a permanent injunction against the media organisation restraining it, its editors and reporters from publishing any other such material as was contained in the article complained of or publishing similar scandalous, malicious and libelous material against him.

In his statement of claim, Casilli, an Italian and resident in Zambia, said the Daily Nation in its Tuesday July 20, 2021 edition, vol 7 issue no. 3003 newspaper edition, published a story on its front page titled “Hijacked PVT Sparks Uproar”.

He stated that Daily Nation alleged that he had paid Kelvin Bwalya popularly known as KBF and John Sangwa, among others, to high jack the PVT project by OCIDA in order to unseat the PF.

Casilli contended that the contents of the said article were malicious and libelous as they were published with the specific intent of defaming him and smearing his name, repute and character as well as lowering his standing in the minds and opinions of right thinking members of the public.

“The said words contained in the article complained of, in so far as they stated and implied that the plaintiff is engaging lawyers and colluding with the UPND to unseat the PF, have brought him into public odium and scandal,” Casilli stated.

“The article implied that the plaintiff is aligned with an opposition party, namely the UPND in seeking to assist the said party to unseat the current ruling party, PF and President Edgar Lungu, that he has engaged in criminality and actions of sabotage against the state, the electoral system, the president and the ruling party by purportedly recruiting named lawyers to sabotage the election results in favour of UPND.”

Casilli further contended that the words complained of meant that he was seeking to foster post election unrest by the said sabotage of the election results and that he was failing in his duties and abusing his role as honorary Consul General for Belgium by actively engaging in partisan politics.

He said this was not the first time that Daily Nation had published defamatory articles against him and he had in the past obtained an injunction from the High Court against the defendant to prevent it from publishing malicious material against his companies.

“The plaintiff will rely on the proceedings under cause number 2017/HP/1137. The defendants have declared a war of fake news against the plaintiff,” said Casilli.

He is further demanding interest on all sums found due and owing and any other order the court may deem fit and costs.

HH IS AWARE HE IS LOSING, BUT HE WON’T CONCEDE DEFEAT – DR CANISIUS BANDA TIPS ECL

….urges the Head of State to protect all the citizens, watch the UPND and keep them in their place

Lusaka, Wednesday 28th July 2021 (SmartEagles)

Member of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Dr Canisius Banda has tipped His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu that leader of the opposition UPND Hakainde Hichilema will not concede defeat despite him knowing that he is losing on 12 August.

Speaking during a Virtual Rally in Lusaka today, Dr Banda said the UPND are taking the matter of elections as “do or die” adding that the President needs to put them in their place using his Constitutional powers.

The former UPND Vice President told the Head of State that the mandate to keep Zambia safe is in his hands.

Meanwhile, Dr Banda wondered what kind of a Christain Mr Hichilema is.

He said the opposition leader has been perpetrating violence in the country ahead of the August 12 polls.

“When UPND loses they will not accept results. To them these elections are a do or die…as if they are hypnotysed. You can tell them that there is electricity now but they will argue. Watch these people, you are the commander in chief of armed. The mandate to keep Zambia safe is with you,” he said.

“He is advising his followers to be attacking back whenever they are attacked. HH what kind of Christianity is that? Hichilema is preaching an eye for an eye which leaves everyone blind. President Lungu protect all the citizens, watch the UPND and keep them in their space.”

He further wondered how the UPND would fight the tribalism that they perpetrate.

And Dr Banda said Mr Hichilema is not happy that Dr Chishimba Kambwili who was to be the opposition leader’s Running Mate left the party.

“UPND is promising to fight the tribalism that themselves are perpetrating. I was there. We were the three of us. We left with our wisdom. GBM and I. HH is aware that he will lose these elections. He is not happy that CK who was to be the running mate is no longer with him. He is not happy that Canisius Banda who was the source of his strength is no longer with him. He is just looking for some votes so that he finds something to go to court with,” he said.

Pilato: THE 12TH AUGUST 2021

By Pilato

THE 12TH AUGUST 2021

The coming general elections are about the soul of our nation, the restoration of power from a few political individuals to the institutions of this country. These elections are about the people of this country claiming back the dignity that has been lost over time. The police officers, who have lost power to criminals, thugs masquerading as political cadres. This election is about claiming back that power and giving it back to the police officers so that we the people can recover our confidence in them again.

This election is about saving ourselves from the economic genocide that we have witnessed as a people for the past 7 years. They are about restoring the power to our currency and claim back its dignity on the world market. These elections are about saving our civil servants from social, political and economic abuse that they have endured for the past 7 years. The dignity they once had to work hard for their money and use it as they wished. Today most of our civil servants have been reduced to charity cases. They work so hard but yet remain in debt. Just like God couldn’t trust Pharoah to lead the children of Israel from Egypt to the promised land, we can’t trust the Pharoah that enslaved our honourable men and women in the civil services to free them now. This election is about restoring back the power to our civil service and the great men and women serving this great nation.
This election is about restoring back the power of dreams back in the hearts and minds of our young people. We need to remind our gifted youths that it is necessary to dream and yes dreams do come true. Our young people have been forced to abandon their biggest dreams just to fit in our mediocre status. They have been told you can’t pursue certain studies because there are no opportunities for that in Zambia. This election is about reassuring them that this country is ready for their greatness. Their dreams are valid and must come true. This election is about promising our young people that they can start businesses in Zambia and succeed even without becoming political cadres.

This election is about restoring back the power to the city councils around this country. The power they once had to manage bus stations, markets etc for the benefit of our cities. The power our councils had to govern our cities in a more structured and inclusive fashion. This election is about restoring back the power to the people of this country to hold different views and still go to the market or bus station without being harassed. This election is about restoring back the power to the mini bus drivers who get harassed in the bus stations and at every bus stop. They are made to pay huge sums of money at every stop and that money ends up in pockets of criminals and that same money funds the cadres that attack and kill our people. This election is about restoring that power to the government. the government of the people by the people and for the people.
This election is about confronting corruption. To confront it with the power of the vote.

Whoever you decide to vote for in this election, remember the country must come first. Do not compare Zambia to another country, compare it to its former self. Look at where we are coming from and where we are now.

Whoever is your preferred candidate or political party, remember, the problems we face today are non partisan. They are problems that affect us all and those coming after us. The unemployment crisis affects us all. If your vote was a statement, what is it saying?
If your voice was the only thing we needed to build this country better….. where will you place it?

Government Distances Itself From Intercepted Illegal Arms Ship, As State House Dismisses Links To Zingman

0

By Julia Malunga,

THE Zambian government has distanced itself from a Russian operated ship that was recently intercepted by the European Union Naval Force on grounds that it was carrying illegal arms, in violation of the arms embargo on Libya.

And Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Isaac Chipampe says there is no connection between the Russians linked to the intercepted vessel and the Russians who were captured with President Edgar Lungu.

In May 2021, the European Union Naval Force Mediterranean Operation IRINI intercepted a vessel at sea, flying the Zambian flag for being suspected of ferrying illegal arms.

According to correspondence seen by News Diggers, the EU Naval Force Deputy Operation Commander, Rear admiral Jean-Michel Martinet, demanded that the Zambian government explains the nationalities of the people operating the vessel and to also grant authority for a search to be conducted.

In response to the demand, the Zambian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained that the vessel was being operated by 11 Russian nationals, led by a man identified as Andrei Buchek.

Asked why the said vessel was flying the Zambian flag, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Ambassador Chalwe Lombe told News Diggers, in response to a press query, that the government had communicated to the International Maritime Organization that it does not own the vessel that was intercepted.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Zambia wishes to state that it is in receipt of communication from the European Union Naval Force dated 10th May 2021 regarding the vessel, MV Gauja, that was intercepted in the Mediterranean Sea and the matter is being addressed through relevant diplomatic channels. The Ministry regrets that prior to this query your newspaper published two articles regarding this matter without seeking the official government position,” stated Lombe.

“The Ministry wishes to categorically state that the Government of the Republic of Zambia does not own the MV Gauja, general cargo and has never at any time issued such registration. The government is yet to set up an International Open ship registry. Further the government is not undertaking any operation in the Mediteterranean Sea. As a consequence, the government of the Republic of Zambia has communicated to the International Maritime Organization to inform that body, which is responsible for all maritime matters of this position.”

He said the government was still committed to safeguarding the interests of the country.

“The government of Zambia remains unequivocally committed to safeguarding the interests of the country and its people.; and reiterates its unwavering commitment to the principles that underpin its foreign policy in furtherance of cordial relations,” responded Ambassador Lombe.

And in a separate interview, Chipampe expressed displeasure at the persistence by News Diggers to link the Russians behind the intercepted vessel and Alexsander Zingman who was seen in pictures with President Lungu last year.

“First you accuse the whole Head of State as being responsible for that flag on the ship of all the things. You published the story of a ship having a Zambian flag, then you connected it to the Russian arms dealer who you accused of being a friend of the President. What was the connection between that flag and those Russian people you accused? No connection. You have been splashing those pictures for years trying to connect the President to that. Remember you are dealing with the Head of State and you are accusing of illegal arms dealing. You are tarnishing the image of your own Head of State. What image are you creating for the country? Then you ask us to comment on the flag on the ship, we don’t know the genesis of that,” he said.

Chipampe said the fact that the said vessel was flying the Zambian flag did not mean that it had anything to do with Zambia.

“The people that sent you that picture, are the ones who should give you the answers who those people were, who owns that ship, not ourselves. It is just like when you see somebody wearing a Zambian jersey in Egypt, you cannot come to us and say ‘you tell us how that boy got a Zambian jersey.’ It is the same as the flag, since you started the story, somebody obviously provided that information, let them finish the story. Because we can’t answer, we don’t know the genesis of that story, we don’t even know where you got the information. Even here in Zambia, we have seen people carrying British flags, American flags so you cannot ask the American government where that Zambian got the flag, you can’t. So whoever was carrying the Zambian flag, we don’t know the context, the circumstance you are the ones that know that have that information. You help us,” said Chipampe.

Exempt President Lungu From Last Minute Debate, Youths Demands

EXEMPT PRESIDENT LUNGU FROM LAST MINUTE DEBATE, YOUTHS DEMANDS

A youth representative, Charles Mbombela has requested the organizers of the Presidential debate to exempt President Lungu as the request has come too late.

Mr Mbombela adds that the organizers should leave it to the Zambian people to let President Lungu be subjected to the scrutiny of the Zambian people as he has delivered for all to see.

“The Presidential debates organized by Diomond TV which envisage to host all Presidential aspirants to outline their manifesto and policies should rightfully exempt the patriotic front candidate Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu because he is seemingly the only candidate whose party has given the people of Zambia a clear cut manifesto( 2021-2026).” He said in a statement sent to the media today in Lusaka.

Mr Mbombela observes that President Lungu has widely circulated his achievements and his plans through through the 2021-26 manifesto.

“What has even made this Candidate exceptional is that , he has outlined what has been achieved by the patriotic front from 2011 to 2021 and has thrived on traceable documents such as the Economic recovery plan, PF manifesto 2021 -2026 , 8th National development plan, Millenuim development goals among others.” Mbombela said.

“This debate therefore, should be an opportunity for other political parties especially the United party for national democracy(UPND) that has since inception not availed a clear cut manifesto to highlight what it intends to do in a situation they are elected into office.”

Mr Mbombela further urged Zambians to take interest in political parties and urges them to challenge what alternative they would provide to supplement what the PF has achieved.

“We the citizens must pay serious regards and take keen interest in these political parties that have insatiable appetite to ascend to the epitome of power in the country without outlining what we must expect from them.”

“Recently the UPND through its President and Vice President posted what they called Manifesto on Facebook but later pulled it down after suffering backlash from the seemingly angry electorates who referred to it as a mockery.”

“This therefore is a profound platform for the UPND to highlight how they are going to curb load shedding, road construction, build schools and hospitals and improve the kwacha relationship against the dollar in 4 hours after been sworn in.”

I didn’t want to Divide PF Votes and see Heartless individuals Win and Govern Zambia-Kambwili

0

Former National Democratic Congress party leader Chishimba Kambwili has said that opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema does not deserve to govern the country.

Speaking during the door-to-door campaign in Luanshya, Mr. Kambwili, who is a ruling Patriotic Front (PF) member, said that Zambia is in safe hands under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu.

“People of Roan and Zambia at large have been there and I know what am talking about. Some opposition leaders I worked with, we cannot mention names but you know them, they have hearts like snakes.

“I am back in PF because my party I belonged to for many years is better than what I saw on that side. There was hell,” Mr. Kambwili said.

Mr. Kambwili said that Mr. Hichilema is a bitter person and it is possible for him to divide the nation, adding that he’s coming back to PF because he did not want to divide votes in PF strongholds if he stood and allow someone who does not deserve to govern win August elections.

“If I stood on NDC ticket, I would have divided votes on the Copperbelt, Northern, and Luapula. As a result, allow heartless individuals to win, and become guilty of allowing Zambians to suffer. This is what I was against,” he said.

Mr. Kambwili appealed to the people of Luanshya and Zambians at large to reject leaders who do not mean well for the country. Meanwhile, the people of Luanshya have reaffirmed their support for His Excellency President Mr. Lungu and the PF.

The people assured Mr. Kambwili that on August 12 they will give maximum support to the Head of State so that he continues with the developmental agenda.

Meanwhile, Northern Province Patriotic Front (PF) Youth Chairperson, Eric Nsofu, has urged youths in the province to vote wisely in this year’s general elections.

Mr Nsofu said youths should vote for leaders who care for their well-being, adding that government has shown that it cares for their welfare evidenced by the many empowerment programs it has initiated across the country.

He added that the PF government under President Lungu has also shown that it is development-oriented as seen from the many developments it has undertaken which have transformed the country.

“The Patriotic Front government does not want to leave any one behind in terms of development. This is evidenced by the developments the party has taken all over Zambia and this is why we need to vote President Lungu back in office on 12th August,” he said.

The Youth Chairperson said this when he addressed PF youths at the party office in Luwingu district. Mr Nsofu also urged the youths to promote peace and not allow themselves to be used as tools of violence.

And former Lubansenshi Constituency Member of Parliament, George Mwamba, who is now contesting as an independent parliamentarian candidate for Lubansenshi, said he is impressed with the conduct of PF youths in Luwingu.

Mr Mwamba noted that the PF youths in the province have been peaceful from the time the campaign started in May.

“I like the conduct of PF youths during these campaigns. This is how all youths should behave unlike causing confusion,” he said.

He explained that although he is standing as an independent candidate he is not shy to tell the people to vote for PF parliamentary candidate Taulo Chewe if they do not want him.

Meanwhile, the Socialist Party in Luwingu said it will make history as it will record victory in Lubansenshi Parliamentary Constituency.

Efforts to get a comment from the United Party for National Development (UPND) failed by press time.

Chipenzi urges Wina to account for her 7 years as Vice-President

0

GEARS Initiative Zambia executive director MacDonald Chipenzi has urged Zambians to ignore politicians who use them during elections as stepping stones for their selfish gain and abandon them after.

Chipenzi says Inonge Wina must account for her stay as Vice-President for seven years hailing from Western Province and should also explain why the province has remained with very poor road network and poor infrastructure development during her stay as vice-president.

“We want to urge the people of Zambia, not only those in Western Province but the entire country to ignore politicians who use them during elections as stepping stones for their selfish gain and abandon them after,” he said.

In agreeing with former Barotseland Ngambela, Clement Sinyinda on the state of development in Barotseland, Chipenzi said Vice-President Wina must tell her people why the King Lewanika University, Mongu Stadium, Sesheke University and Sesheke Nursing College commissioned during the Sesheke parliamentary by-election had not been constructed during her stay in power as Vice-President.

“She must also explain why the Nkeyema-Kaoma-Katunda Junction road stretch has remained dilapidated and why Katunda-Mangango-Lukulu road despite the promise during the Mangango by-election to work on it and Kazungula-Sesheke roads remained unattended to while she flew whenever going into the province,” he said. “Bo Inonge Wina must explain to her people in Barotseland why the province does not have a modern tollgate but just simple shelters located on Sioma-Senanga road and Luampa-Mongu road and where do the toll fees collected from these shelters go to.”

He said it was also time for Vice-President Wina to explain why Nalolo district had no tarred road yet that was her former constituency as ruling party member of parliament and vice-president of the ruling party and that of the Republic.

Chipenzi said it was politically naive on the part of Vice-President Wina to now go closer to the people she neglected, ignored and abandoned for seven years only to reappear on an election year in her effort to canvass for votes with rhetoric than tangible development realism.

“Where has sonta gone or disappeared to? Unless, Bo Inonge Wina responds to the facts raised and put plainly by Clement Sinyinda on the state of development in Barotseland, people must not take her seriously on her argument that the province is underdeveloped because of having opposition members of parliament,” he said. “This political cheat and argument from ruling party officials in an effort to win political support that an area only develops when MPs are from the ruling party must be discarded in a multiparty democratic dispensation as it is old politics of the one party mentality and stifle the growth of multiparty democracy in Zambia. Look at Chama district, formerly for Eastern Province and now in Muchinga, it has had MPs from ruling party but can Inonge Wina explain why the Lundazi-Chama road is still poor and a gravel or why the Chama-Matumbo road connecting the district to its new parent province Muchinga has not been done in the last seven years despite an area having an MP from the ruling party?”

Chipenzi said it was not the responsibility of members of parliament to take development to a province but government while the MPs’ role was to facilitate, represent the people, and lobby for development and above all enact laws.

“If Inonge Wina has no any convincing message remaining to give the people of Western Province, it is better she concentrates on her exit plan as former vice-president after these elections,” said Chipenzi. “People must be free to vote for whoever they feel will give them better representation in parliament regardless of the party ticket they stood on in an election.”

PAC asks IBA to approve Prime TV’s application for broadcast licence

0

THE People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) party is petitioning the Independent Broadcasting Authority to give favourable consideration to the application by Prime Television for a broadcasting licence and to expedite its issuance in the public interest.

In a statement, William Harrington, the party’s vice-president, stated that Prime Television just like the other television stations, in particular QTV, Diamond TV and CAMNET Television had a critical role to play in terms of providing information to the nation, particularly during election times when the Zambian voter needs to make an informed decision.

He stated that he was aware that Prime TV has applied twice for a broadcast licence and interviewed over the same but the IBA was dragging its feet on the matter.

“People’s Alliance for Change is reliably informed by management that the company has re-applied many months ago following its closure last year under unclear and controversial circumstances but it has not been favoured with any response,” Harrington stated. “Prime Television is a leading private-sector driven enterprise just like QTV, Diamond TV and Camnet TV which are a pride of Zambia in terms of providing professional broadcasting services. At the time of its closure, the station provided employment to many youths at a time when so many people are roaming the streets due to lack of employment. The affected employees have been unfairly inconvenienced and are innocent victims who are facing great socio-economic challenges due to lack of sustainable income.”

Harrington stated that PAC was reliably informed that Prime Television had a training programme for reporters, editors, cameramen and women as well as technicians.

He noted that television was also key in terms of business, investment and tourism promotion in any country.

Harrington stated that private investment in the broadcasting industry should be encouraged through provision of an enabling operating environment to attract other Zambian investors.

“The need to provide as much information as possible to the voting public in the run-up to the 12th August 2021 general elections cannot be over-emphasised. The forthcoming elections are undoubtedly the most critical and crucial in Zambia’s history,” stated Harrington. “It is a make-or-break election. As already stated, the Zambian voter needs to make an informed decision for the benefit of present and future generations and this can only be possible if private broadcasters like Prime Television are facilitated to operate freely without what may be perceived to be undue political interference.”

Unions have duped members over debt swap – Luonde

0

NDC national chairperson Richard Luonde says trade union leaders have duped their members in the civil service over the debt swap.

Commenting on the ongoing debate over the government ‘debt-swap’, Fr Luonde called the exercise a hoax.

“Right now, we have the issue of the debt swap which PF is promising civil servants. We are just remaining with three weeks before a general election. Where will this government find money to subsidise these loans?” he asked. “Civil servants get these loans at higher interest rates from banks and micro-finance institutions. And this PF government is telling them that it will deduct from them at 10 per cent. If, for example the loan was obtained at 40 per cent interest, where will this PF government find money to subsidies the 30 per cent? It’s a pity that unions have also joined in duping their members.”

He wondered why the government could not use the same money to pay Eurobonds on which they defaulted last September.

Fr Luonde pleaded with civil servants not to fall into the trap, warning that it would land them into more serious problems.

“Not only that, this is a government that defaulted on external debts last year because they have swept all our coffers. So, where will they get money from to pay for civil servants’ loans?” Fr he asked. “It’s a hoax. And I hope that our civil servants can read through this lie. Otherwise, civil servants will cry after August 12, especially if they make a mistake of voting back these criminals. PF will just abandon them on the way and surrender them back to the banks at the original interest rates.”

And Fr Luonde said he longed for trade union movements that existed over 30 years ago.

He wondered what had happened to the current trade unionists whom he said have stopped representing their members.

“I want to talk about the sham trade unionism obtaining in Zambia of late. Unionism in Zambia is no longer a representation of workers, but a representation of individual leaders – those who are elected to leadership. The trade unionism that we had in the 60s, 70s, 80s was for workers,” said Fr Luonde. “Today’s unions have lost it. They have gone to bed with the government. In short, they have surrendered their power to bargain for their members. What they now do is negotiate deals and political appointments for themselves from government. No wonder their members rebel against them. They have completely lost it. They are just trade union movements in name, not in performance. For today’s unions, whatever government says, their response is ‘yes bwana’.”

Judge Esau Chulu And Shindano In A Most Difficult Task This Year – Sikaile Sikaile

JUDGE ESAU CHULU AND SHINDANO IN A MOST DIFFICULT TASK THIS YEAR

Every election year when there is a wind of change there are so many remarkable things that happen and a sitting government in Zambia always panicks. They do all kind of crazy things such as making life a living hell for the opposition through intimidations, violence and character assassination. Under the PF of Sata in 2011 vs MMD we witnessed all kinds of character assassination and some restrictions though not to level of this sponsored by president Edgar Chagwa Lungu. For sure PF can only survive by rigging which is now proving very difficult.

First and foremost, rigging an election in Zambia or Africa requires a public perception from the incumbent government must claim popularity in certain areas so that even when they play with figures it is moderate to have a balanced population agreeing and the other disagreeing. In 2011 RB and MMD failed to play games because the public perception was very clear that Zambians wanted change after rating MMD as a corrupt government. 2015 and 2016 were relatively uncertain to completely make the public be an enemy of the PF that is why manipulation of results by ECZ under Mr. Esau Chulu was easy. The other thing that helped a little bit, was that people had soft spot on Late Sata. As a result, it was easy to sway public opinion in Sata’s direction.

This year is a dangerous and a crucial year not only for the PF but Esau Chulu and Shindano too. The duo is expected to execute mission impossible. Are they Tom Cruise? PF has given the duo the most difficult illegal task to execute, that of manipulating results. I would liken it to a mission given to late Irene Mambilima by Rupia Banda in 2011.

President Edgar Lungu went to N. Western province and he was chased together with his team like common thieves and further accused of stealing gold. On his Way back he passed through copperbelt the same happened. And yesterday we saw what happened when opposition leader HH visited the same province. We saw thousands of citizens chanting we want change. They were hungry but, were able to find energy to run with the motorcade from solwezi into Kalumbila. That is symbolic to the level of optimism citizens now have to the potential UPND presidency
The question is, what will Esau Chulu and Shindano tell these Zambians this time around? To try anything funny this time around will be flirting with chaos.

Look at areas like Mpulungu, Nakonde and Lusaka how hostile they are to PF. Facts are that PF and ECZ are in for it. One thing that Esau Chulu should keep in his mind is that these elections will be the most scrutinised and monitored elections in the Political history of Zambia. Even a slight Mistake in pronouncing a constituency or figures will raise dust.Intelligence community in Eastern Province where PF are banking on are daring that should the opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema make an appearance there, it will be another disaster for PF. They have further charged that, PF lost ground a long time ago and all they are trying to do is damage control which Zambians have rejected.

According to intelligence sources PF have lost Lusaka and Copperbelt Provinces as well and you all know the reasons why. Now, let ECZ and PF tell us how PF can win these elections without Lusaka and Copperbelt. Indeed this is the toughest task for Esau Chulu and Shindano to carry out.Because Zambians have already decided. Last time you were given a benefit of doubt because of late Sata. Today every Zambian knows that Edgar Chagwa Lungu is nowhere near Sata and he will treated as Lungu in these elections.

First batch of 95 pallets for 40 constituencies containing ballot paper have arrived

The first batch of 95 pallets for 40 constituencies containing ballot papers for next month’s August 12th 2021 general elections are expected to arrive in Zambia on July 28th 2021 at approximately 12.40 hours Zambia time aboard an Emirates Sky Cargo air plane.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says there will be four flights to airlift the ballot papers whose schedule has been sprayed over three days, with the first batch of pallets arriving in Zambia on Wednesday July 28th 2021, to be followed by the second consignment on Thursday July 29th aboard two planes on same day, and the last dispatch will be on Friday July 30th.

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano announced today in Dubai that the printer as of yesterday Monday, had transported the pallets for 40 constituencies to the airport for screening and other formalities as per that country’s protocols in readiness for dispatch on Wednesday, July 28th 2021 aboard an emirate’s cargo plane.

“Packaging including the first batch which we did see yesterday was taken to the airport. Its currently under quarantine as per advised in readiness for transportation,” Mr Nshindano announced.

Mr Nshindano addressing stakeholders at Al Ghurair Printing factory stated the pallets will leave Dubai international airport in the early hours of Wednesday, 28th July, aboard Emirates Sky Cargo flight number EK9542, and is expected to touch down at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 12.40 hours Zambian time.

“The first flight which will depart in the early hours from Dubai, will arrive tomorrow at 12.40 hours and the commission will be sharing with you as stakeholders the list of what is packaged in the pellets,’’ he said.

The Chief Electoral Officer explained that the transportation of the second and third batch of pallets for 80 constituencies will be dispatched on Thursday,29th of July, 2021 aboard two cargo planes under the same carrier and will arrive at 12.40 hours.

Mr Nshindano further added that the last consignment of pallets for the last 40 constituencies will be dispatched on Friday 30th July, 2021 and will arrive on the same day by 12.40 hours the same day, concluding the exercise of dispatching the election ballot papers for four election type.

“We are going to have to two flights on 29th July which should arrive on the same time as well and the last flight will be on the 30th Friday. In total we are going to have four flights and this will mark the end of that exercise,’’ he stated.

Mr Nshindano said the commission is already in the process of making arrangements to inform stakeholders in Zambia on formalities of who will receive and witness the consignment of pallets whose total tonnage is 49, 236 kilograms, as it arrives in the country.

Amongst the first constituencies to receive their pallets include Katuba, Keembe, Chisamba, Chitambo, Itezhi-Tezhi, Bwacha, Kabwe Central, Kapiri Mposhi, Mkushi South, Mkushi North, Mumbwa, Nangoma, Lufubu, Muchinga and Serenje.

The other constituencies are Mwembezhi, Chililabombwe, Chingola, Nchanga, Kalulushi, Chimwemwe, Kamfinsa, Kwacha, Nkana, Wisakile, Luanshya, Roan, Lufwanyama, Kafulafuta, Masaiti, Mpongwe, Kankoyo, Kantanshi, Mufulira, Bwana Mukubwa, Chifubu, kabushi, Ndola Central, Chadiza and Chapata central.

Meanwhile the Churches Coalition Monitoring Group (CCMG) has disclosed that the coalition will carry out a paralleled vote tabulation during this year’s polls based on random selected sites.

CCMG delegation leader Emmanuel Chikoya revealed during a stakeholder meeting in Duba with ECZ, that the organization is however facing challenges in accrediting monitors who are critical to the success of the PVT with respective districts managing the electoral process.

Father Chikoya appealed to the commission to consider extending the period of accreditation whose deadline is this on Friday July 30th 2021 and started on July 1st and standardize the requirements.

CCMG delegation leader Emmanuel Chikoya said whilst the commission had set a deadline, it was important stakeholders were given time to accredit as notification was not received good time.

Father Chikoya said the process in the past was not restrictive but would close a day before polls adding that district electoral officers were as well issuing conflicting positions on the accreditation process from that which is guided by ECZ.

In response, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano noted the concerns raised by CCMG but explained that there were reasons for the commission to have set a deadline 12 days before the elections’ day.

Mr Nshindano said there were a number of aspects that the commission had looked at such as adequate time to screen applicants and verify their backgrounds so that they do not repeat past mistakes of accrediting people with questionable character.

Mr Nshindano said the commission had done enough notification of the process of accreditation which started at the time of holding nomination of candidates participating the elections, and that it was not fair to accuse the commission of wrong doing.

Mr Nshindano advised that it was important stakeholders adhere to the guidelines set by the commission in ensuring that they prepare adequately as the date of elections is well known in advance.

THE PF MUST BE VOTED OUT OF POWER THEY HAVE OUTLIVED THEIR USEFULNESS,NO PARTY SHOULD RULE FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS.

Dear fellow Zambians,,,

The PF government has been in power for 10 years and they are seeking for another fresh mandate from you Zambians to extend their stay in power to 15 years

We all know what the PF government has done and what they haven’t done in the 10 years they have been in power.

Even if we give them another 10 years, they will not perform because if they have failed to perform for the 10 years they have been in power, how do expect them to perform for the next 10 years???.

Believe you me,it will be a disaster a fact which the PF would simply dismiss and call it sour grapes coming from the enemies of the state in reference to the opposition, therefore change is inevitable right now to avoid and any form of plunder and abuse of power.

Ten(10) years is a very long time for every government to prove itself how it has performed in the last 10 years.

No political must rule for more than 10,we must vote in another political party with new ideas, that is the only way we can develop our country.

They can’t even spend sleepless nights to convince Zambians to give them another fresh mandate, their works for the past year they have been in power would speak for them.

Calling for change of government is not a criminal offence but a Civic duty. I’m therefore calling for the change of government in the coming 12th August 2021.

Every peace Zambian must vote out the PF government from power,we have had enough of them, arrogance, corruption, exploitation, non tolerance of divergent views, hate speach, violence, promoting Tribalism using Chishimba Kambwili, George Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) and many other senior PF senior members who have no message for the Zambian people, etc.

It’s high time to bring in Hakainde Hichilema of the UPND and prove himself why he is worth the office of the President of the republic of Zambia.

If Hakainde Hichilema doesn’t perform according to his promises,he must also be voted out and bring in someone else because Zambia belong to all of us not a few selfish individuals like the PF224148641_2993135144288357_4818830792391347857_n

KBF TELLS OFF KANGANJA

KBF TELLS OFF KANGANJA

PROMINENT Lawyer and UPND Alliance partner, Kelvin Fube Bwalya, has told off Inspector General of Police, Kakoma Kanganja to stop meddling in the on-going Electoral process.

Speaking on ‘Zambia Decides’ radio programme on Radio Christian Voice this morning, Mr Bwalya said that Mr Kanganja must stop dictating how political parties are supposed to conduct election campaigns.

Mr Bwalya said the police chief was over-stepping his mandate of protecting property, life and that of maintaining law and order.

Mr Bwalya also charged that the prerequisite stages of the Electoral process has to be exhaustive if Zambia was to be guaranteed of holding a free and fair election.

“He (Kanganja) is not ECZ…he is a Police Officer who seem to have forgotten his job! His job is to protect citizens! His job is to ensure that law and order prevailed in this country,” he said.

The eloquent speaking political strategist said Mr Kanganja’s decision to start making political statements was a clear indication that he was singing the voice of his pay master, who, in this case is President Lungu.

He noted that the unwarranted statements from the police IG was a way of fulfilling his six months ultimatum in which he was required to perform failure to which he would lose his job.

“Now he goes and makes a political statement…what is he doing? Whose master’s voice is he singing? We shall challenge that statement later because we know that there is pressure on him! Remember he was given 6 months to perform and he knows that if he doesn’t perform he is going to lose his job. That is why he is dancing to this instruction,” charged Mr Bwalya.

Mr Bwalya also wondered why the police IG wanted to appear to be working professionally, when he failed to ban President [Edgar] Lungu from flaunting health regulations and protocols when he distributed facemasks in Mutendere a week ago.

He also observed that such statements as the one issued by Mr Kanganja yesterday was “unjustly” targeted at Mr Hichilema.

“When Edgar Chagwa Lungu went into Mtendere, into the market, pretending to be distributing facemasks, did Kanganja issue a statement? Of course not! You’ve seen (Chishimba) Kambwili…you’ve seen Nkandu Luo flying around…you’ve my mother, ba Inonge [Mutukwa] Wina flying around…you’ve seen GBM flying around! Has anybody issued a statement? No! This statement only comes after Hakainde Hichilema goes to Solwezi! Then they say, ‘No!’ There is a problem here. HH has become too popular! Badaala, time has come for him to rule this country,'” said Mr Bwalya.

TIZ Records 44 Cases Of Violence, Bribery And Abusive Language Linked To The Major Political Parties

TIZ RECORDS 44 CASES OF VIOLENCE, BRIBERY AND ABUSIVE LANGUAGE LINKED TO THE MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES

During the months of May and June 2021, TI-Z monitored a total of 85 electoral events across the country in general, but specifically in the 6 provinces. According to the analysis, Copperbelt and North-Western provinces accounted for the majority of these events, with 34 and 19 events respectively.

These were followed by Luapula province with 12 events, Southern province with 9, and Lusaka province with 8. The analysis showed that with 3 events, Eastern Province recorded the least number of electoral events for the months of May and June 2021.

It is worth noting that the relatively low number of electoral events across the 6 provinces was largely a result of the restrictions that the ECZ has placed on political parties’ campaign activities, as well as the slowing down or complete suspension of campaigns by political parties in June during the 21 days’ period of national mourning that was declared in honour of the late first Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.

Out of the 85 electoral events monitored in May and June, 44 electoral incidents of abusive language, violence and bribery were recorded, representing a 51.8% incidence rate for those types of anomalies across the 6 provinces. Of the 44 incidents of abusive language, violence and bribery that were recorded, Lusaka province had the highest incidence rate at 75%, followed by Luapula province with 58.3% and Copperbelt province with 55.9%.

Southern and North-Western provinces had incidence rates of 44.4% and 36.8% respectively, with Eastern province having the lowest incidence rate of the 6 provinces, at 33.3%.

In terms of categorization, most of the incidences were classified as bribery and accounted for 18 cases or 40.9% of all incidences. These were followed by 16 incidences of abusive language, accounting for 36.3% of all incidences. Of the 16 cases of abusive language, 3 had elements of violence. Cases of violence alone accounted for 9 incidences or 20.4% of all incidences recorded in May and June.

In order to further delve into the details of the 44 incidents of abusive language, violence and bribery, we analyzed the distribution of these incidences by political party, and that analysis revealed that the vast majority of these incidences were linked to the Patriotic Front (PF) and the United Party for National Development (UPND).

Out of the 44 incidences recorded, the PF and UPND collectively accounted for 34 cases or 77.3%, with 21 of these cases or 47.7% being linked to the PF, 8 cases or 18.2% being linked to the UPND, and 5 cases or 11.4% being clashes between the two parties, but with no clear indication of which of them was the perpetrator.

The analysis further showed that independent candidates were linked to 2 of the incidences recorded, accounting for 4.5%, while 7 or 15.9% of the incidences of political violence and malpractice that were recorded could not be attributed to specific political parties due to difficulties in identifying the perpetrators.

In terms of our next steps concerning these incidences, particularly those of bribery, TI-Z will forward the full details of these to the ECZ and law enforcement agencies for them to follow up and possibly take appropriate action.

We however wish to make an earnest appeal to all political parties and their candidates, as well as independents, to refrain from all forms of electoral malpractices as they conduct their campaigns. The Electoral Code of Conduct as contained in the Electoral Process Act No.35 of 2016 clearly outlaws such malpractices, and all players in this process have a duty and obligation to adhere to the provisions of the Act, and of the Code of Conduct in particular.

Lastly, we further urge the ECZ and law enforcement agencies to be more vigilant in ensuring that stakeholders in the electoral process do not abuse the process by failing to adhere to the legal provisions governing the process. The ECZ in particular have not covered themselves in glory in that regard and we challenge them to pull up their socks in the two weeks remaining before polling day.

LUNGU BANS HH CAMPAIGNS INDEFINITELY – IMENDA

Tuesday 27th July 2021

LUSAKA – We wish to express our disappointment with government institutions which are being used by President Edgar Lungu to block United Party for National Development (UPND) Alliance presidential candidate, Hakainde Hichilema, from campaigning for the August 12 general elections.

What these institutions are doing is an affront to the country’s democracy given that this is campaign period.

Mr Hichilema has consistently been stopped from campaigning on the ground by Patriotic Front (PF) government machinery such as the Zambia Air Force (ZAF), the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and the Zambia Police on claims of flouting the electoral code of conduct.

It is disturbing that a day after Mr. Hichilema had flown to Solwezi where thousands of residents turned up to welcome him and listen to his message of hope, government decided to revoke his permit to fly to various destinations.

Mr. Hichilema was blocked from going to Rufunsa yesterday to distribute sanitisers and face masks while the police allowed Kambwili to campaign in Ndola and Luanshya.
“We are aware that the President Lungu and his runningmate will be campaigning in Kabwe and Kapiri Mposhi today. We will see what the Inspector General of Police will do going by the threats he was making yesterday. What kind of justice is this? We have always maintained that rigging is a process and the process has started,” Mr. Imenda said.

The PF government is clearly aware that the UPND Alliance is the only hope for the long-suffering Zambians, hence their insistence to block any efforts by President Hichilema from freely campaigning as enshrined in the Zambian Constitution, Mr. Imenda stated.

The actions by the PF through ZAF, ECZ and Zambia Police to stop Mr. Hichilema from campaigning could be likened to George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ where the ruling party has more rights than the opposition and the rest of the Zambians.

The action goes to show that the PF is afraid of losing the forthcoming elections and hence interfering in the operations of government institutions in a last-ditch effort to have an upper hand.

“As the UPND Alliance, we have since written to ZAF Commander Lieutenant-General, David Muma, Police Inspector-General Kakoma Kanganja, the ECZ and the European Union Elections Observer Mission in Zambia highlighting the unfair practices by the PF in the run-up to the elections.

“Blocking Mr. Hichilema from campaigning to would be voters by state machinery is a clear violation of the electoral code of conduct. We will not relent in bringing economic emancipation to the Zambian people who have suffered untold misery from the PF regime,” Mr. Imenda said.

The UPND Secretary General also called on the international community to take note of these developments and effect necessary steps.

HH asks court to set aside Tayali’s defence in defamation case

0

By Mwaka Ndawa

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s lawyer Edward Mbewe has asked the Lusaka High Court to set aside the defence by Economic and Equity Party leader Chilufya Tayali in a matter he sued him for defamation, for non-compliance to court orders.

In this matter, Hichilema sued Tayali demanding K100 million as damages for libel for alleging that he corruptly benefitted from the privatisation exercise by stealing public assets and stripping citizens of their benefits.

Hichilema wants an interim injunction restraining Tayali whether by himself, servants or agents from further publishing or causing to be published or broadcast the defamatory words or anything similar against him.

In his defence, Tayali pleaded fair comment, claiming the words he uttered against Hichilema were justified and made in good faith, without malice on a matter of public interest.

Hichilema in his reply to Tayali’s defence said he had an issue with the same.

In an affidavit in support of composite summons to strike out defence, in the alternative to set aside the defendant’s bundles of documents or extension of time for compliance with orders for directions, Mbewe said Hichilema would be prejudiced if Tayali’s bundle of documents are allowed.

He said on April 22, 2021, the court issued orders of directions whichi provided for inspection of documents on March 13, 2021 and May 11 he wrote to Tayali’s lawyer’s inviting them for the inspection of documents.

Mbewe said by letter of reply dated May 13, 2021, which arrived on the day of the inspection itself, Tayali’s lawyer Jonas Zimba said he was not available for the scheduled inspection and requested for an alternative date before May 28, 2021.

“The request by the defence was untenable as we were unavailable in the period he was suggesting and I engaged him via telephone to which I proposed that we enter into a consent order for enlargement of time within which to comply with the orders for directions to which he agreed and requested that I draft and send him (Zimba) the consent order for enlargement of time for his attention when I am available,” Mbewe said.

He stated that by letter dated May 18, 2021, he enclosed the draft consent orders for enlargement of time and served them on the defendant’s advocates.

“That to my utter shock, while I was expecting the signed or at least edited consent order from my colleague, I was instead served with a letter dated May 31, 2021, enclosing the defendant’s bundle of documents,” Mbewe said.

“I believe that the plaintiff stands to be prejudiced if the bundles were allowed without the due process of inspection and I also believe that my colleagues ‘pulled a fast one on me to sneak in questionable documents’ by giving the impression that we were going to do the right thing of enlarging the time to facilitate compliance with the orders of directions with regards to the discovery.”

Mbewe said as a result of the aforesaid misunderstanding, Zimba could not file the plaintiff’s bundle of documents in accordance with the dates in the orders for directions.

Sean Tembo expresses concern of the sudden strengthening of the Kwacha and its volatility

0

Opposition Leader of Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) Sean Tembo has said that volatility in the exchange rate of the Kwacha against major convertible currencies is actually adverse to the economy as it undermines the ability of business entities and individuals to transact and often attracts significant foreign exchange losses to cross-border traders.

In a statement to the media, Mr. Tembo said that his party had noted with concern the huge volatility in the exchange rate of the Kwacha against major convertible currencies witnessed in the past few days.

He stated that PeP was particularly disappointed with the Bank of Zambia (BoZ) for sleeping on the job and failing to intervene to prevent the huge volatility in the Kwacha exchange rate.

“Between Thursday, July 22, 2021, and Friday, 23rd July 2021 alone, the Kwacha moved from K22.67 to K20.96 to the US Dollar as per BoZ website, which represents a 7.5 percent movement in a single day. It must be noted that one of the key mandates of the Central Bank is to maintain stability in the forex market and to intervene through Open Market Operations where necessary. This is where the Central Bank either sells or buys forex from the open market so as to prevent the Kwacha from over-depreciating or over-appreciating, as the case might be, and therefore keep it stable,” Tembo stated.

Tembo, a Chartered Accountant himself, further noted that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its governing rules and regulations defines a stable currency as one which records daily movements of between zero percent and 0.5 percent.

He stated that the 7.5 percent movement witnessed between 22 and July 23 was unprecedented in terms of currency volatility anywhere in the world and is an unequivocal verdict on the lack of competence of the Bank of Zambia and its leadership.

“As Patriots for Economic Progress, we are fully aware of the fact that as we draw closer to the 12th August 2021 general elections, the PF and its government will become more and more desperate and will try to present a cosmetic view of the performance of the economy. This is evidently intended to misled voters so as to create a false perception that the economy is on a path of recovery when in fact not,” he stated.

Tembo lamented that this appetite by the government to falsify the actual poor performance of the economy was now manifesting itself through the manipulation of the Kwacha exchange rate by the Bank of Zambia, among others.

He stated that his party had no doubt that the sudden appreciation of the Kwacha in the past few days was not supported by any fundamentals but was most likely a result of the Bank of Zambia off-loading forex reserves on the open market as it plays its part in trying to mask the poor performance of the economy so as to mislead voters.
“Such an approach is however not sustainable as we shall soon run out of the little forex reserves that we have. The forex volatility is also undermining any prospects of growth that the economy might have had, as it will definitely keep away foreign investors who normally prefer a stable economic environment.

As Patriots for Economic Progress, we wish to take this opportunity to remind the Zambian people to judge the PF government on the basis of the economic hardships that they have been experiencing for the past 5 years as well as the hunger they feel in their stomachs. The electorate should not be misled by these last-minute antics by the government, regardless of whether such antics take the form of sudden and unexplained appreciation of the Kwacha, debt swap, or commissioning non-functional power generation plants,” Tembo stated.

He further stated that it was evident there would be no limit to the acts of desperation that the PF and its government would engage in to window-dress their poor performance for the past five years.

“Indeed, the PF and its government are extremely desperate in their quest for political survival, but the electorate must not allow themselves to be hoodwinked into believing that the economy which has been performing extremely poorly for the past 5 years, has suddenly turned around only days before Election Day,” stated Tembo.

XAVIER CHUNGU NOT ENTITLED TO CLAIMS – STATE

By Mwaka Ndawa

THE state says Xaviour Chungu cannot be indemnified over his detention in 2002 on corruption related charges and theft of public funds and assets, including the seizure of his property acquired using the the same funds, because the due process of the law was followed.

The Attorney General’s chambers has also hinted of the state’s decision to give Chungu other pieces of land in recompense for the three plots that were grabbed from him.

This is in a matter where Chungu, a former Zambia Security Intelligence Services (ZSIS) Director general, has sued the state in the Lusaka High Court demanding payment of US$500,000 as compensation for his illegal detention.

Chungu wants an order that the state pays him US$150,000 seized from his account at Access Financial Services and an order for the payment of US$37,050 for lost rentals.

He is further seeking interest on all sums payable at Bank of Zambia lending rate from August 2009 to date of full and final settlement, any other reliefs the court may deem fit and costs of the action.

Chungu was facing several charges of theft of public funds and assets and abuse of authority among other charges before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court in 2002.

In other charges, Chungu was jointly charged with Frederick Chiluba for theft of public funds. He was also convicted for nine months for forgery and uttering a false document.

In his statement of claim, Chungu said that on January 7, 2002 and various other dates between 2002 and August 15, 2009, he was put under house arrest and also remanded in prison for a cumulative period of 34 months on allegations of theft of unspecified motor vehicles and theft by public servant.

He stated that each time he was detained by the taskforce on corruption and the case was taken to court, the state would enter a nolle prosequi and the process of arrest, charge would start afresh.

Chungu contended that he kept appearing for mention only without taking plea for three years.

The ex-chief intelligence officer said despite him not being prosecuted successfully or at all earnest, the state seized his property by way of forfeiture and forfeited his houses F/488a/27/D/2 Leopards Hill Lusaka, F/377a/1/E/1 Kabulonga road Lusaka, F/488a/8/B/2 Whitewood Lane, Kabulonga, LUS/208/M, lot 10752/M and LUS/20863.

Chungu stated that the state also seized his account at Access Financial Services Limited which had a cash balance of US$150,000 which was money raised from rentals at house no.488a/8/B/2 Whitewood Lane, Kabulonga.

“At the time of forfeiture of the said house, there was 13 months remaining on the lease period at the monthly rental of US$2,850, bringing the total of the lost rentals to US$37,050,” Chungu said.

But in its defense, the state said the plaintiff was arrested for various alleged offenses relating to corruption and the due court process was followed.

It said his houses were legally seized and forfeited to the state after following all legal procedures and evidence would be adduced at trial.

“For items LUS/208/M, lot 10752/M and LUS/20863, the defendant undertakes to engage the plaintiff for alternative pieces of land,” the state proposed.

It denies seizing his account at Access Financial Services limited with a cash balance of US$150,000 rentals from his house in Kabulonga with 13 months remaining on the lease period at the monthly rental of US$2,850 and that he would be put to strict proof.

The state refuted assertions by Chungu that he was denied freedom for a cumulative period of 34 months, his right to property was violated by way of forfeiture without due process, loss of mesne profits and that he suffered stress and mental torture.

“The plaintiff is not entitled to any of the claims with the exception to items LUS/208/M, lot 10752/M and LUS/20863,” said the state.

“Save for express admissions made herein, the defendant denies each and every allegation of fact in the plaintiff’s statement of claim as if the same has been specifically set out and traversed seriatim.”

POLITICS AS A ´LIFE OR DEATH END´ GAME

…´leaders must chastise the violent elements among them not stay quite´, Sikota

By Sakwiba Sikota, SC

26th July 2021

The posting and picture below which I made more than six years ago on 31st January 2015 is still very valid today.

Perhaps it is even more valid today than when I posted it.

During this election campaign we have witnessed an upsurge in violence like at no other election that they make even the UNIP/ANC electoral fights in the 1960s look like Sunday morning picnics.

We have had nasty scenes and torrents of blood all over the country this year. Look at what has happened in places like Ikelengi, Mumbwa, Sioma, Kafue, Mandevu and many others.

In Nakonde, even the police were subjected to horrible violence from cadres. It appears that some people want to change this peaceful land of ours into something the likes of Ghengis Khan would feel right at home in.

It is a pity that even on commemorating Youth Day that those who claim to be national leaders made their youthful cadres even attack officers from the Zambia Police Service (ZPS).

A little over a week ago, political parties met to sign “The Political Parties of Zambia Peace and Non-Violence Pledge”. Soon after the pledge we see a rise in number of people having to be arrested for breaching the very pledge which was signed.

The leaders of these violent cadres are not heard chastising or advising their followers. All they seem anxious to do is to impress international and religious bodies that they are the good guys and their opponents are the bad guys.

NGOs, Churches, international bodies and others should take stock of each and every incidence of political violence. They should catalogue each and every report to the police on electoral violence.

After doing this the offending parties must be talked to and publicly shamed. Do the research on all incidences in places like Ikelengi, Mumbwa, Sioma, Kafue, Mandevu and many others and give us reports on who was behind these.

Let us not have a situation like the International Criminal Court which is supported by the USA when it wants to prosecute someone like Bashir but will not allow the ICC to investigate the USA acts in Afghanistan or anywhere else in the world. Let us not just investigate some and leave other incidents. This is the wrong route to go down.
I hope the guilty will not be afraid with this posting.

We should change the route that our politics seem to be going down. Property and lives are being damaged because some people look at politics as a life or death end game.

Kambwili is a criminal -UPND deputy SG Mucheleka

KAMBWILI IS A CRIMINAL CONVICT WHO IS TRYING TO MAKE AMENDS, CHARGES MUCHELEKA

Staff Reporter

Chishimba Kambwili is speaking like that because he’s under pressure on account of being a convict, says opposition UPND deputy secretary general Patrick Mucheleka.

Reacting to Kambwili’s statement to Daily Revelation that opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema does not deserve to be a politician but a tribal chief in Southern Province, Mucheleka said Kambwili was trying hard to appear relevant in order to make amends as a convict.

“Ena Kambwili ninshi takwata amenso, tamona ena ukweba ati abantu balefwaya ukuchinga (Does it mean that Kambwili doesn’t have eyes to see that people want change)? No one is paying attention to his blind remarks. People want to change because of the economy, people are suffering and it’s very clear that people are yearning for change and they are ready to effect change come the 12th of August,” Mucheleka said. “Kambwili is a convict so he can say anything. You know a convict can say anything. So how do people even pay attention to things that are being said by a convict? You know that he doesn’t even have a conviction over what he is saying. He’s speaking because he’s under pressure, he’s a convict.”

But reminded that when the UPND was working with him his conviction was a non-issue to them, Mucheleka said that still did not change the fact that Kambwili was a convict.

Mucheleka said Zambians will ensure that President Edgar Lungu did not get a third term of office, as stated by the constitutional court president.

He further talked about some of the challenges encountered in door to door campaigning, saying rural areas were mostly vast, and reaching as many people as possible was also time consuming and also in terms of resources.

“I am in Luwingu I wanted to have a road show but I have been stopped by the police,” he said, saying the opposition were campaigning under very difficult circumstances but was still confident of winning

Mucheleka said President Lungu was desperate, such that he was now taking desperate measures of even asking civil servants to campaign for the ruling party

“Who told him that civil servants should be PF? Those are none partisan that’s why even when we are campaigning the organs of the state continue operating,” he said, but reminded that President Lungu could have been referring to permanent secretaries and district commissioners, Mucheleka said: “Those are not…continue reading on this link http://dailyrevelationzambia.com/kambwili-is-a-criminal-convict-who-is-trying-to-make-amends-says-mucheleka/

KATUMBI IS OUR SAVIOUR…we hope Tshisekedi allows him to mobilise freely – DRC traders

0

DESPITE its challenges, the Zambian political landscape has inspired supporters of Congolese opposition politician Moise Katumbi in the bustling border town of Kasumbalesa.

Katumbi’s supporters on either side of the vast border town believe that the ruling party under Felix Tshisekedi should accord Katumbi the same privileges ‘enjoyed’ by opposition leaders in Zambia.

Zambia goes to the poll on August 12 this year.

In September 2015, Katumbi resigned as governor of Katanga Province and formed a political party, the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy.

On June 22, 2016, he was convicted in absentia and sentenced to 36 months in jail, which was widely seen as part of then president Joseph Kabila’s attempts to hold on to power.

After declaring his presidential candidature for the 2018 Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) general election, several accusations were thrown at him by the Kabila regime which he denied.

In August 2018, Katumbi was blocked from entering the DRC before the presidential nomination deadline on 10 August.

He is generally loved in Kasumbalesa, a border town in the mineral-rich Katanga Province and nationally for his development of the Katanga region when he served as governor from 2007 to 2015 and as president of TP Mazembe Football Club.

Katumbi is known for being generous by investing his own funds in social causes such as health and education for underprivileged communities.

“Moise twamutemwa sana (we love Moise very much), problem ni Kabila (Kabila is the problem). This time he (Katumbi) could have been president. But we are now happy he is back in the

country and working freely. We must take a leaf from the Zambian government nangu tabaleumfwana sana [even if they don’t relate well] but they allow the opposition to operate,” said Eli Kabondo, pastor at a local church and trader on the Congo side of Kasumbalesa. “Not what Kabila did to Moise; he knows Moise is our saviour but he refused to allow him to come and participate in elections. It is wrong mwamona! That’s why we enjoy life in Zambia. In this country people don’t go to extremes, they find common ground no matter the differences. That’s why muli (there’s) peace mu (in) Zambia.”

Another Congolese national, Jean Pierre Iboma added: “Our hope is that the same way opposition there in Zambia is going for elections, is the same way we want Katumbi to participate freely. And we hope Tshisekedi will give him an opportunity to mobilise freely because we want to have our own choices in 2023.”

After being prevented from running in the 30th December 2018 elections by the Kabila regime, Katumbi who was a frontrunner and his party joined the Lamuka coalition that fielded a single candidate, Martin Fayulu.

Fayulu narrowly lost to Tshisekedi, an election which observers that included the powerful Catholic Church disputed.

Asked about similarities in the conduct of elections under multiparty politics between the two countries, most Congolese residing on both sides of Kasumbalesa border and crisscross the border for businesses preferred the Zambian system, saying it was generally peaceful.

Lungu is unfit to be president – Kalala

0

By Oliver Chisenga

FORMER special assistant to the president for policy and project implementation and monitoring Jack Kalala says President Edgar Lungu lacks sincerity and integrity, which make him unfit to be President.

Responding to President Lungu’s advice to the church in Kalulushi recently, Kalala said privatization was a programme for the MMD government and records were there to prove it.

He recalled that the first MMD manifesto clearly stated that once elected, the party would privatise all parastatals.

“President Lungu is reported to have advised Church leaders and the public in general to be wary of the past conduct of ‘privatisation’ leaders who are now seeking to be elected for public office. President Lungu said this when he addressed church leaders recently in
Kalulushi. It is my considered view that for President Lungu to say this, he is demonstrating that he lacks sincerity and integrity. Lacking these qualities makes him unfit to be President,” Kalala said.

He said it was malicious for President Lungu to insinuate that a private citizen sold the mines that belonged to the Zambian government.

He said the allegation was patently absurd and extremely vitriolic and was beneath the level of a President.

“Who sold the mines and other state owned companies during privatisation? It was the government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ), duly elected by the people of Zambia that did it. Some of President Lungu’s ardent and very vocal supporters served in the MMD Government that privatised the parastatal companies. Official records are there for verification and confirmation,” he said.

Kalala added that it was absurd, illogical and malicious, that about 30 years later, President Lungu, who knew better what exactly transpired should attribute the selling of state owned companies to a private citizen who were not even part of government at the time.

“Let us assume that President Lungu’s claims are correct. Can President Lungu tell the nation how this private citizen who was not in government sold public assets while the government was looking on! From where did he derive the authority to do the unthinkable?

Where did he take the money that was raised from the sale of the mines? Since President Lungu seems to have evidence, why hasn’t President Lungu had this person arrested and prosecuted so that the matter can be resolved and closed once and for all? What have President Lungu and his government done to recover the money from the proceeds of the sale of the mines? The nation would like him to substantiate his claims.”

Kalala said failure to do so would make Zambians to consider his claims to be mere political rhetoric.

He said for President Lungu to engage in such cheap and unworthy conduct was a mark of lack of integrity, level-headedness, seriousness and better judgment expected of a national leader.

He further said the President, as a national leader, should avoid engaging himself in demeaning conduct.

“He should be of exemplary conduct, a role model to the nation and source of inspiration. He should be a beacon of light to the nation. This is what citizens expect of him. President Lungu, as head of state, should focus on issues of value to national development and wellbeing. He should focus his attention on wealth creation and defeating poverty.

He should focus on addressing issues affecting the nation now, namely unemployment, corruption, looting of national resources,
political violence, lawless among party cadres and police brutality. Majority of people in urban areas lack decent accommodation with running water and sanitary facilities. The majority of Zambians can’t afford to have two meals a day,” he said.

“Zambia is endowed with so many resources to create wealth for its people. It is unacceptable that there should be so much poverty in the country and people should be struggling to survive. The missing link is effective leadership. By his vain and worthless repeated utterances, President Lungu has proved that he is deficient in leadership capacity. He does not know what is expected of him as President and he should be put ‘ku wire’ on 12th August.”

Kalala added that President Lungu should know that lies and malicious insinuations would not win him and PF a third term.

He said Zambians know very well that privatisation of public companies was a government programme and they know what exactly happened.

“Lest President Lungu has forgotten, Zambians are aware that President Lungu participated in the privatisation process. He was contracted to preside over the privatisation of the Cold Storage Board that folded up soon after it was privatised under questionable and dubious circumstances. Zambians also know that Mr. Hakainde Hichilema was appointed to preside over the privatisation of Intercontinental Hotel in Livingstone and Lusaka that have proved to be a success story.

In addition, as a lawyer, President Lungu was a failure and he stole a client’s money, which he was forced to refund and the Law Association of Zambia withdrew his practicing licence, while Mr. Hichilema has proved to succeed in everything he has touched. He has managed to build UPND into a formidable political party that is giving sleepless nights to PF, while President Lungu has destroyed PF,” he said.

Kalala noted that under President Lungu, the Kwacha has depreciated to an embarrassing level of K23 to $1 while the inflation has risen to 24 per cent per annum.

He said with all the infrastructure development in 27 years, Kenneth Kaunda left the national debt at $7.5 billion while President Mwanawasa had it written off, but under President Lungu the foreign debt has risen to more than US $12.5 billion in 10 years of PF misrule due to reckless borrowing, corruption and looting.

“This is scandalous and unacceptable. Since he is unable to defend his failed leadership, President Lungu has resorted to peddling malicious insinuations against HH whose victory is fast approaching. President Lungu is undoubtedly spending sleepless nights in view of the resounding defeat that he is about to suffer on 12th August. He has tried the tribal card that has unfortunately for him failed. Zambians have refused to be divided.”

He said Zambians want a leader who would move the country from poverty to prosperity and they were ready to try Hichilema.
Kalala advised President Lungu that he should start packing and prepare to leave State House after August 12.

“To the people he want to use to perpetuate his fraudulent and illegal stay in State House, I urge them to remember that their loyalty is not to an individual but to the Constitution and the nation,” said Kalala.

2 Carter Centre electoral experts arrive in Lusaka for Aug 12 polls

2 Carter Centre electoral experts arrive in Lusaka for Aug 12 polls
By Chambwa Moonga
THE Carter Centre has deployed electoral experts to Lusaka for Zambia’s August 12 elections.
In a statement issued today, the Centre says it has deployed the first two members of its international electoral expert mission to Lusaka to assess the process surrounding next month’s general elections.

The Carter Centre is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation that has helped to improve life for people in over 80 countries by resolving conflicts, advancing democracy, human rights and economic opportunity, preventing diseases, and improving mental health care.
The Carter Centre was founded in 1982 by former US president Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, in partnership with Emory University, to advance peace and health worldwide.

In a statement availed to The Mast, The Centre notes that its electoral expert mission, which initiated its work remotely in mid-July, is composed of four international experts and a local analyst.

“Staff from the Centre’s Atlanta headquarters will join the mission in August. The team will assess political, legal, and administrative aspects of the election,” the statement read.
“Though the electoral expert team will be in Lusaka for election day, the mission’s limited size and scope makes a thorough, nationwide assessment of the voting, counting, and tabulation processes impossible.”

The statement adds that the Carter Centre’s mission will instead focus on key aspects of the Zambian electoral process, including the legal electoral framework, the effectiveness and transparency of electoral preparations, the campaign environment, including freedom of the media, respect for core participatory rights, the use of social media and disinformation and misinformation trends.

“Carter Centre experts will conduct interviews with key electoral stakeholders, including political parties, the electoral commission, the Zambian government, civil society organisations, scholars, international and national observer missions, diplomatic missions, and international organisations,” it stated.

“The Carter Centre electoral expert team works in accordance with the declaration of principles for international observation. The mission’s analysis is based on international human rights obligations and standards for democratic elections.”
The Carter Centre has a long history of supporting elections and democratic governance in Zambia, dating to its international observation of the country’s first democratic elections in 1991.

It also observed the 2001 and 2016 elections and has been working since 2019 to encourage the participation of women and youth in political and civic life.

Meanwhile, the statement indicates that the Centre’s electoral expert team in Lusaka will release a brief preliminary report a few days after the August 12 vote.

“Approximately two months after the conclusion of the electoral process, it will provide a more detailed report on key critical pre- and post-election issues, including possible appeals,” read the statement.

“The final report will include recommendations based on the experts’ analysis.”

Man jailed after being caught masturbating in three separate shops

A man from Dublin in Ireland who was spotted masturbating on different days in three separate stores has been jailed for eight months.

Bo Yu (38) masturbated both on the shop floor of each of the stores and in one of the store’s changing rooms.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that Yu was arrested following the final incident in which he was masturbating while at one of the store’s tills. He was found to be in possession of a sex toy, an unused condom and lubricants at the time of his arrest.

Yu, pleaded guilty to public masturbation at a hearing in court on November 27th and 30th, 2019.

He also pleaded guilty to public masturbation.

Passing sentence on Tuesday, Judge Melanie Greally said it was clear from the footage that Yu was “manifestly in a state of considerable arousal throughout all the incidents”.

“Bizarrely the shoppers do not appear to have noticed his conduct, despite the fact that he was making scant efforts to be discreet,” Judge Greally said having noted that there were also children in the shops in questions.

She accepted that Yu has no previous convictions, had educated himself in China and came to Ireland where he has been in employment.

She acknowledged that he suffered both physical and emotional abuse from his father and he dressed as a woman “as a means of dealing with his stress and anxiety”.

“This is a case in my view in which some element of incarceration is necessary in order to achieve the objective of general deterrence,” Judge Greally said before she added that the incidences were in a crowded shopping centre and the conduct was of a relatively prolonged duration.

She sentenced Yu to 12 months in prison and suspended the final four months of the term for two years. She ordered that Yu engage with the Probation Service for two years and comply with all their directions, including engaging in treatment for sex offenders.

At a previous hearing, a security guard at House of Fraser told Diarmuid Collins BL, prosecuting, that on the first date in November 2019, he noticed Yu wearing a dress and a wig while masturbating in the women’s section.

The security guard said that on the second date in November 2019, Yu was again observed masturbating in the store. Gardaí were contacted on both occasions.

A detective told Mr Collins that on the date in December 2019, a security manager at Penneys in Dundrum saw the accused man masturbating and then going into the changing rooms. Yu touched a number of items in the store, which were then removed and not sold.

Yu was told to leave the changing room and told to take with him a used condom found on a seat.

The detective said that on the same date, Yu was observed applying liquid to his hand and masturbating in the lingerie section of Marks & Spencer in Dundrum. The accused man then went to the till to pay for tights and was masturbating while at the till. Gardaí were called and they arrested Yu.

Zimbabwe bribed Malawi president, SADC leaders to endorse 2013 election – researchers

HARARE – Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu PF paid US$990 million in bribes to SADC leaders and regional liberation movements to endorse the disputed 2013 elections, a new report by the Centre for Natural Resource Governance (CNRG) has claimed.

Locating Zanu PF as a beneficiary of illicit election funding, researchers for the study (Mortgaging the Future in Return for Power) found that the liberation movement was selling off state-owned mining claims and minerals to a shadowy network of shelf-companies that eventually delivered the proceeds back to Zanu PF in the form of election funding.

“Official documents gleaned by the research team covering the July 31, 2013 elections give a window to understanding how Zanu PF election funds are sourced and the individuals or companies responsible for underwriting its huge election expenses,” the paper reads.

Adding: “According to the report, a great part of the budget, 67 percent, which amounted to US$2.01 billion, went towards the presidential campaign while US$990 million went towards ‘regional diplomacy’ (next SADC chair, liberation movements) to drum up ‘support for poll credibility before, during and after elections’.

“The so-called ‘regional diplomacy’ is nothing but a euphemism for bribes paid to the SADC Chairperson, then-President Joyce Banda, and liberation movements in the SADC region to proclaim legitimacy to the elections whose credibility Zanu PF anticipated was going to be questioned.”

A Joint Operations Command (JOC) document acquired by the researchers revealed that US$800 million was provided by Chinese miner Anjin and Mbada Diamonds in exchange for tax-free diamond mining rights in Marange, Manicaland province, where vast alluvial diamonds fields where discovered by artisanal miners before the area was violently taken over by the military in 2008 after 35,000 fortune hunters descended on the area. Over 200 were killed.

“The internal document from the CIO (Central Intelligence Organisation) director general’s office, dated 23 May 2013, shows that a total of 16,000 carats were shipped out of Zimbabwe to Angola and Hong Kong between 04 April 2013 and 10 May 2013 and a total US$58 million was realised from the illicit sale of the gems,” CNRG said, appearing to confirm accusations by then (2009 – 2013) finance minister Tendai Biti that Anjin was not remitting diamond proceeds to treasury.

“A further 20,000 carats were shipped out of Zimbabwe to Angola between 11 and 16 May 2013 for an undisclosed fee.

“The same internal CIO document clearly states that the money raised was for ‘Special Interests Projects’ (elections) and part of the shipment was taken to Number 88 Queensway, Hong Kong, ‘on behalf of the Special Interests Projects’ by Air Vice Marshal H. Muchena who, according to another security document, headed the Zanu PF Commissariat together with retired director, Counter Intelligence, Sydney Nyanungo.”

Muchena and Nyanungo are also accused of presiding over a violent quasi-military operation code-named ‘Operation Return to Zanu PF’ funded by the US$800 million provided by Mbanda Diamonds and Anjin.

The researchers also link the violent 2008 presidential run-off to illicit election funding which was used to sponsor the violence.

According to a quoted Zanu PF informant, Bokai mine (Todal Mining (Pvt) Limited) was sold for US$175 million to the Central African Mining and Exploration Company (CAMEC) through an intricate web of shelf companies registered in the British Virgin Islands.

Zanu PF, through the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation, “benefitted a quick fire of US$100 million from the sale which they used for the bloody June 27 2008 presidential election run-off”.

“The same source revealed that Billy Rautenbach, through Meryweather Investments Limited, got US$75 million from CAMEC in addition to coking coal mining rights in the Hwange Western Areas that he was given by the government of Zimbabwe for arranging the deal”.

Within a month of purchasing Bokai mine for US$175 million, CAMEC valued it at US$1 billion.

“This means that the government of Zimbabwe was prejudiced of US$825 million because of the illegal and desperate sale of the mine,” the researchers concluded.

Adding: “What is clear from the documents is that the Mbada Diamonds deal, just like the Bokai mine deal that funded the 2008 presidential run-off, was structured in a way that involved a lot of shelf companies registered in the British Virgin Islands to obfuscate the ownership structures in a way to suggest there were a lot of things that ZMDC, the government of Zimbabwe and Zanu-PF wanted to conceal.”

Nkandu Luo says Zambians have made up their mind to vote for PF, and wonders where UPND is getting their confidence

0

Patriotic Front Presidential running mate Professor Nkandu Luo has said Zambians are resolved to vote for the PF and President Lungu in the August 12 polls.

Speaking on a campaign tour in Chililabombwe town today, Prof Luo wondered where the United Party For National Development (UPND) is getting confidence that they are winning the upcoming elections.

“You can see that there is no wind of change and you can see how the people here on the Copperbelt love the PF. Having traveled across the country, people are resolved that they are voting for PF and President Lungu and I don’t see where the opposition is getting the confidence that they are winning this election, ” Professor Luo said.

Prof Luo and her campaign team, who took time to distribute face masks to marketeers in the Central Business District and later on met the clergy, PF aspiring candidates, civil servants, ex-miners and women groups, said that, contrary to claims by the opposition that they are gaining ground, the Copperbelt still remains the stronghold of the ruling PF.

“We are set here in Chililabombwe and the reception I have received here is humbling and thank the people of Chililabombwe for the massive support to President Edgar Lungu and all the PF adopted candidates, ” she said.

“Copperbelt has not shifted to the opposition it still remains the bedroom of the PF and I don’t see the opposition carrying the day, I see President Lungu bouncing back,” Professor Luo.

Meanwhile, President Edgar Lungu has reminded Zambians that they are one family and must embrace each other. Speaking when attended church service at United Church of Zambia (UCZ) in Itezhi Tezhi today, the Head of State said that there is no Illa, no Tonga, no Lenje, no Lamba and that we are all one.

“When Dr. Kaunda said One Zambia One Nation I think he was very right. We all one in Christ and we must embrace each other,” the president said before adding: “If we are all one in Christ why should we let politicians to divide us.”

The president said that politicians just come to serve people and not divide them.

“Politicians who come to serve us must serve us in Christ. So some of us who are coming to visit you for the sake of campaigning receive us in Christ,” he said.

ECZ puts in place security measures to protect votes- ECZ Chief

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has assured political parties in the country that it has put in place security measures which will protect all votes cast in the August 12, 2021 presidential and general elections.

ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano stated that the commission is alive to concerns raised by political parties and other stakeholders in the past regarding issues of security of votes during an election.

Mr. Nshindano explained that the commission has introduced security features on forms such as the famous GEN 20, which is used to declare winners and record results.

He explained that there are now new security features that will make it difficult for one to reproduce or even photocopy form GEN 20.

He said this in Dubai today during an inspection of completed packaged pellets of printed ballot papers at Al Ghurair Printing Factory in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E).

The inspection team was led by ECZ Chairperson Justice Esau Chulu.

Mr. Nshindano has meanwhile warned that being found with a GEN 20 before the announcements of results is a crime as it is a security document.

He said this information was important for political parties to know.

Mr. Nshindano said political parties and their agents must acquaint themselves with the way ECZ has packaged ballot papers and other materials contained in the boxes.

The ECZ Chief Electoral Officer has since urged political parties know features of packaged ballot papers and other materials so as not to accuse the commission of things that are not there.

He pointed out that past insinuations and assertions of vote rigging, casting of votes by people not registered and the number of people that voted being more than those that turned up at a polling station should not arise this time.

Mr. Nshindano added that to tackle what is perceived as ghost voters, the commission will provide a voters’ list in addition to the voters’ registers for each particular polling station.

He said political agents at respective polling stations should also be able to note the serial numbers of boxes and verify the contents as they arrive.

He said all these measures have been instituted to ensure the vote is protected so that the commission does not get unnecessary allegations.

Meanwhile, Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing Company is set to dispatch the first completed 40 pellets of ballot papers from Dubai to Zambia by plane.

The first batch is expected to arrive in Lusaka on Wednesday, 28 July, 2021.

A total of 160 pellets containing the ballot papers will be dispatched to Zambia and will be transported in sets of 40 pellets in each consignment.

The transportation process is expected to end by the weekend.

The pellets have been packaged according to constituencies. The number of pellets each constituency will receive vary according to the population size and number of polling stations.

How Rwanda spied on South Africa’s Ramaphosa with Pegasus software

0

The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, may have been the target of Rwandan espionage or monitoring, according to a worldwide investigation conducted by human rights organization Amnesty International, a discovery that is unlikely to improve already tense diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Amnesty International said on Wednesday, July 21, that new evidence uncovered by the Pegasus Project revealed that the phone numbers of 14 heads of state, including Ramaphosa’s, and those of France’s President Emmanuel Macron, Pakistan’s Imran Khan, and hundreds of government officials, had been selected as people of interest by The NSO Group, the Israeli firm that owned the spy software.

The evidence also indicated that Rwandan authorities may have utilized NSO Group’s spyware to target over 3,500 activists, journalists, and politicians, including Carine Kanimba, Paul Rusesabagina’s daughter and the star of Hotel Rwanda.

Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International, stated: “NSO Group cannot insist that its products are only used against criminals when more than 3,500 Rwandan activists, journalists, political opponents, foreign politicians, and diplomats have been selected as targets for NSO spyware.”

“NSO Group must immediately stop selling its equipment to countries with a track record of putting human right defenders and journalists under unlawful surveillance”, she added.

When Pegasus is installed on a smartphone, it basically provides an attacker full control over the phone. It can read and record messages and passwords, access social media, utilize GPS to find the target, and listen to and record the target’s conversations. Once the phone is compromised, end-to-end encryption, which is available through popular applications like Signal, does not protect against Pegasus.

NSO Group claimed in a series of answers that Pegasus is exclusively marketed to governments to track down criminals and terrorists, and that it has saved many lives. It disputed that its spyware had been routinely exploited and questioned the accuracy of the information collected by reporters.

As part of the inquiry, reporters received a list of over 50,000 numbers from around the world alleged to have been picked by NSO Group clients for targeting.

According to a significant investigation into the leak of 50,000 phone numbers of prospective monitoring targets, NSO Group’s spyware has been used to enable human rights violations on a huge scale throughout the world. Heads of state, activists, and journalists, as well as Jamal Khashoggi’s family, are among those targeted.

The Pegasus Project is a bold new collaboration between more than 80 journalists from 17 media organizations in ten countries, integrated by Forbidden Stories, a Paris-based media non-profit, and Amnesty International, which conducted cutting-edge forensic tests on mobile phones to identify traces of spyware.

NSO Group, an Israeli surveillance firm, has received funding from prominent private equity companies Novalpina Capital and Francisco Partners, as well as a number of other investors. The rights-abusing corporation is also owned by pension funds in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Why was Ramaphosa’s number in the list? Professor Jane Duncan, an author and specialist on state monitoring, predicted that Ramaphosa, a powerful African politician, would be targeted. “However, it does pose a number of issues. Did the SSA [State Security Agency] utilize any and all technical methods to scan his equipment for hackers and deal with them when they happened?”

For years, relations between South Africa and Rwanda have been tense. In 2014, Patrick Karegeya, Rwanda’s former espionage chief and a critic of President Paul Kagame, was discovered murdered in a Johannesburg hotel room, sparking a diplomatic dispute between the two nations.

The National Prosecution Authority of South Africa issued arrest warrants for two Rwandans suspected of assassinating Rwandan critic Karegeya. Karegeya’s assassination, according to South Africa’s special investigation team, “were directly related to Rwandan government participation.”

In the years that followed, the two nations exchanged diplomatic expulsions amid allegations that Rwanda continued to pursue dissidents in South Africa. However, in June of this year, their foreign ministers met in Pretoria to mend fences.

The Pegasus espionage revelation arrives at an inopportune moment for Ramaphosa, who is struggling with his own internal intelligence fiasco, and is likely to undermine any recent improvements in the Rwanda-South Africa relationship.  – face2faceafrica.

PF leaders are shameless thugs Ex PF Matero MP Loyd Kaziya

By Ex PF Matero MP Loyd Kaziya

The truth must be told. Pf party, the party that was founded by one Michael Chilufya Sata, the party we all loved at some point, has fallen into wrong hands. Remember as an author of the page, | was once a Cabinet Minister.

| have seen a lot and to be honest I’m truly ashamed to have belonged to this party full of shameless thugs. | could not just fit in. The party has allowed street thugs to be more powerful than the police, the voters and any ordinary Zambians. | fought injustice in this party, | personally fought illegal allocation of land and many more vices in my constituency.

Some of my Councillors shamelessly sold streets, spaces along the roads behind others individual properties. The business communities have been harassed for a long time to pay money in the name of the party. We have allowed a cadre to grab and share what a poor hard working marketeer is sweeting for. Who doesn’t know how they have taken over huge income meant for the Council in markets and bus stops. We are dealing with an organised group of thugs. At Intercity Bus Stop, the country may not realised the so called party leaders have plundered these resources meant for Local govt with impunity. | was hated by my superiors in the party because | spoke out against these ills in the party. | was warned of suspension which | challenged. | was called by the party secretariate several times to answer useless charges arising from party cadres. My own Constituency leadership demanded that | pay my Parliament sitting allowance to them. They frustrated my efforts to bring development to my constituency. Whilst other constituencies where receiving a good share of roads and

and upgrading of social amenities, | was deliberately left out so as to look a failure in the eyes of the people of my constituency.

This current govt in it’s current form and state has no leadership capacity and acumen to propel this country going forward. They do not have the capacity to utilise or add value to our natural resources. We have totally failed to utilise the 3 basic factors of production namely, land, labour and capital ( finances). All we have seen is our fellow leaders getting so rich in a short space of time. Zambians are not foolish. They can see through all of us leaders. They know who the thieves are and those that are there to serve the country. We can’t entrust the next 5 years to people that have proven to have lamentably failed to govern this country. Unprecedented development in the country, my foot. We have borrowed so heavily to unsustainable levels to just do roads that can be done with toll gate monies. We have borrowed so heavily to build schools and hospitals we can’t finish constructing. Even where they have finished

constructing such infrustractures, try to examine the cost attributed to them? The economy in the past 10 years is proof enough to attest to this failure of economic distruction. One such infrustrature that my heart bleeds heavily with sadness is the Kafulafuta Dam Construction in Ibenga area of Luanshya. Govt borrowed from China $449 million United States Dollar to Construct this massive infrastructure, all the monies dispensed, 5 years down the line, the structure has stalled. What explanation can we get from Pf leadership. How many more of such projects have stalled after borrowing huge somes of money which can never be traced. Can you surely trust such Pf leadership. Put a poor man who has a record of having stolen money from a poor widow to run your established business and tell me if he won’t get a lion’s share in your company’s profits. The truth must be told.

ONCE HH IS USHERED INTO OFFICE….HE WILL BRING CREDIBILITY IN THE GOVERNANCE PROCESS – JACK MWIIMBU

0

By Julia Malunga,

MONZE Central UPND aspiring member of parliament Jack Mwiimbu says Zambians will be voting for another five years of trauma and suffering if they re-elect the Patriotic Front.

In an interview, Mwiimbu said once Hakainde Hichilema is ushered into office, he would bring credibility in the governance processes.

“For those who are not yet decided as to which political party they have to vote for, let them vote for Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND. Once they vote for him, there will be credibility in the governance processes of this country. Once they vote for UPND, there will be unity in diversity in this country. What we are going to ensure on behalf of the people of Zambia is that we shall bring back sanity as it used to be. Where every Zambian will feel they belong to this country. For them to achieve this, they have to vote for the UPND and HH. If they vote for any other party in particular PF, they will be voting for another five years of trauma and suffering which they cannot afford in the environment we are in,’ Mwiimbu said.

He also outlined the key areas that the UPND would focus on when voted into power.

“| want to assure members of the public that we shall reignite public confidence in public institutions in this country. There will be law and order, there will be good governance, both corporate and social governance. We shall ensure that the people of Zambia come first. The government of the UPND shall provide the requisite needs of the people by ensuring that there will be education that is affordable and available to Zambians. We shall ensure that medical facilities are accessible and available,” Mwiimbu explained.

“We shall ensure that the cost of doing business in this country is reduced to enable a number of Zambians to engage in business. We shall ensure that the cost of production in terms of agriculture is reduced. Once the cost of production in the agriculture sector is reduced, the cost of food which is the basic need and a right for every Zambian will be reduced. We shail ensure that there will not be segregation in the recruitment pertaining to government jobs.”

And Mwiimbu said the allegations by PF

media director Antonio Mwanza that the

UPND trained militias, were alarming and mischievous.

“Claims by Antonio Mwanza are highly mischievous and are intended to divert the attention of the people from real issues that affect them. It has to be noted that what Antonio Mwanza is alleging is a serious criminal offence that requires the attention of the police. The police should not just investigate what has been indicated but they should investigate Antonio himself because he is alarming the public with alarming statements, it is a criminal offence,” he said.

“| have no doubt that there is no aorta of truth in whatever he is saying. The people of Zambia know who has the capacity to train and look after militias in this country. The people of Zambia know the issues surrounding incidences of lawlessness and riotous behaviour in this country. The PF is a party that is known to be accommodating hooligans who harass members of the public, harass anyone who has divergent views. We have no interest whatsoever in bringing lawlessness in this country.”

UPND HAS ABROGATED THE PEACE ACCORD-PF SG HON DAVIES MWILA

UPND HAS ABROGATED THE PEACE ACCORD-PF SG HON DAVIES MWILA

… Urges party members to remain alert and protect themselves and their property from violent attacks by the UPND

LUSAKA…Monday, July 26, 2021 (SmartEagles)

RULING Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Hon Davies Mwila has accused the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) of abrogating the peace accord which the two parties signed ahead of the August 12 General Elections.

Hon Mwila has also challenged the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and some named Electoral Observers to come out and condemn the violence that was being perpetrated by UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his campaign team.

Speaking when he toured and held campaign meetings in the various wards of Mandevu Constituency in Lusaka, Hon Mwila said Mr. Hichilema had never condemned violence publicly which was a source of concern to the signed peace accord and the electoral process.

He said that the PF have still maintained their commitment to holding violence free campaigns of substance but would do everything possible to protect it’s members and property.

“We have made a commitment as a party that our campaigns are going to be issue based with no violence and we will still abide by that but we will not allow our members to continue being butchered and property damaged by the opposition,” Hon Mwila said.

He said that the UPND had resorted to engaging in violent campaigns to scare the electorates on the ground because they know that they were losing again on August 12,

The PF CEO has since directed the party structures on the ground to remain alert and ensure that their offices are protected from malicious damage by the violent opposition which was doing everything to deter the ruling party from campaigning on the ground.

He said President Edgar Chagwa Lungu had sent him to go and visit the electorates in the wards because he believed that was were votes are won.

“So | am doing door to door campaigns and we are happy with the progress made so far,” he said.

Hon Mwila has also advised the electorates on the ground to go out in large numbers and vote for President Lungu and other PF candidates on August 12.

He has urged them not to relent when they find long queues at polling stations because the rewards would be fulfilling.

The PF CEO has since assured the electorates that more party regalia would be delivered to them through their adopted Councillors in due course to boost their campaign activities.

Speaking at the same event, Member of the Central Committee (MCC) Hon Anne Kayula urged the electorates in Mandevu who had gathered to welcome Hon Mwila and his entourage to vote for President Lungu in large numbers because Mandevu along with Kanyama are known for producing the highest number of votes for the PF in Zambia.

And PF Lusaka Province Chairman Kennedy Kamba has promised to work with the all party structures in Mandevu so that they delivered maximum votes for President Lungu and the party on August 12.

Also in attendance was PF Mandevu aspiring Member of Parliament Hon Christopher Shakafuswa, PF aspiring Mayor for Lusaka Chilando Chitangala and all aspiring Councillors from the wards in Mandevu amd former PF Lusaka Province Chairman Paul Monga among others.

Antonio Mwanza accuses UPND of trying to force a Government of National Unity by causing Violence

0

The Patriotic Front has charged that the opposition United Party of National Development (UPND) has resorted to political violence in order to push for a government of national unity after the August polls.

PF Media Director Antonio Mwanza said that it is unfortunate that the opposition UPND has decided to cause anarchy in the country as a way of preparing a stage to push for a government of national unity after the August polls.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr Mwanza stated that UPND are in a panic mode after realizing that the PF has gained ground into their strongholds such as Western and North Western provinces.

“And what UPND is doing now is to go on a path of violence to disrupt the election process, to delegitimize the election outcome and strategically they have been attacking the judiciary, the electoral Commission of Zambia, attacking the police; denouncing these fundamentals of our democracy with a view of making the outcome of the 2021 general elections look illegitimate, ” Mr. Mwanza said.

The PF Media Director has since challenged Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland and the church to give their stance on the current status of violence being perpetrated by the UPND.

The PF Media Director stated that it is regrettable that stakeholders such as the Commonwealth and the Church have remained mute on the continued violence being witnessed in some parts of the country.

Mr. Mwanza has since challenged the commonwealth and the church to tell Zambians what role they are playing in ensuring that the peace pledge that was recently signed at Mulungushi International Conference Centre is upheld by all political parties.

He has further appealed to the police to be on the lookout in order to thwart any plans of violence by the UPND.

Meanwhile, PF campaign Manager for Lusaka Mumbi Phiri has said that she is a very sad person today given the violence being perpetrated by the UPND, challenging the police Inspector General Kakoma Kanganja to arrest perpetrators.

Speaking at today’s PF virtual rally at Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Mrs Phiri said that the late Presidents, Levy Patrick Mwanawasa and Michael Chilufya Sata, reconciled their differences and she is scared of what would happen if HH is brought into government.

Mrs Phiri said in 2008, when PF saw violence on the Copperbelt, following Sata’s election loss, Sata went on ZNBC to stop the violence, adding that violence can be stopped by the opposition.

Mrs Phiri said that Mr Sata did not ask the Church to reconcile with Levy at State House, before asking: “Do you know why HH fails to recognise President Lungu as President?”

Mrs Phiri has challenged the Inspector General of police to arrest those perpetrating violence in Sioma and elsewhere in the same vein PF stalwarts are being arrested – an apparent inference to DEC’s nabbing of America One, who is called Innocent Kalimanshi.

Endorsement: Hakainde Hichilema for President

0

In the media, endorsements are the responsibility of editorial boards. In this year’s presidential election, I am breaking tradition by endorsing Hakainde Hichilema for President of Zambia. I firmly believe Hichilema has garnered enough political experience, purpose, and vision to unlock Zambia’s potential.

I must emphasize that I have no formal or informal connections to either UPND or its president. However, this year, the election is a matter of urgency. The past six years have been desperate and frightening for Zambia; load shedding, gassing, killings, police brutality, tribalism, corruption, unemployment, colossal national debt, and the pandemic.

Without a doubt, Zambia is a fatigued nation urgently needing political experience, creativity, civil discourse, and common sense. Zambians of all walks of life and political affiliation are responsible for understanding what is at stake in the next five years. If Zambians do not vote as a referendum on Edgar Changwa Lungu, we shall not break the glass ceiling and reach the most significant potential. Instead, we shall remain mired in the same chaotic condition, if not worse.
The Elephant in the Room

In laying out this endorsement, it is imperative I first address the elephant in the room. Over the years, the Patriotic Front has portrayed Hakainde Hichilema as a criminal who stole from state assets thirty years ago. The claim hit the headlines again in August last year when former Finance Minister Edith Nawakwi accused Hichilema of theft and later cautioned he “should not be allowed anywhere near the corridors of power because he may turn the country into an Armageddon.”

Nawakwi’s allegation drew enormous public interest because she was the right person to produce compelling and admissible evidence and provide competent testimony to authenticate PF’s claims and send Hichilema to prison. After all, as a minister, she was the custodian of the funds realized from the sale of state-owned enterprises.

The nation waited in great expectation. Ten months have elapsed since the allegation, and no convincing circumstance or documents have been presented to the police or courts to incriminate Hichilema. On the contrary, Nawakwi’s failure serves to indicate the most natural inference that she and the PF are peddling a headwind of misinformation and deceit for political gain.
A tribute to all Zambians

Having dispensed with the innuendo let me begin my endorsement by first and foremost paying tribute to all Zambians for exercising patience the past six years. It is not the first time Zambians have faced economic turmoil. It is not the first time Zambians have faced poverty. It is not the first time Zambians have suffered death on a massive scale caused by a lethal pandemic. It is not the first Zambians have buried their beloved en masse. And it is not the first time a president has failed them.

Zambians are habitually taken advantage of in each election year. Yet all they want is happiness; that’s their chief end. They each have dreams regardless of their abilities and class. To realize their dreams, they relinquish their natural rights to the custodian of state law—the republican president. They expect the president to have a robust governing vision to take them to higher heights.
Kenneth Kaunda did that. At independence, his vision was to educate every Zambian child. He desired to make Zambians educationally empowered so “they can help me develop the country,” he said. To achieve this, he made education free up to UNZA and provided all students with books and meals, and realized the dreams of many, including Edgar Lungu. Like Mandela, Kaunda knew that education was the most powerful weapon which one can use to change the world.
What about Edgar Changwa Lungu? What has been his key ingredient in making Zambians realize their dreams?

On the day of his inauguration, January 25, 2015, Lungu promised to dedicate his presidency to the alleviation of poverty, stating, “I am fully aware of the depths of poverty that continue to afflict the great majority of our people. The fabulous wealth living side by side with abject poverty is a moral outrage and a slur on our collective conscience.”

For a moment, it looked like Zambia had made the right choice. Lungu gave the impression he would close the rich-poor gap. At the time of the speech, Zambia’s poverty level was 60 percent, with 42 percent living in abject poverty. Six years later, instead of going down, the numbers have gone up by 2%, with 82% of rural dwellers affected the most.

“One way to reduce poverty is to create jobs,” Lungu told the crowd at Independence Stadium. “I am aware of the many youths who are without jobs because the ‘economy is not big enough to absorb them.’”

At the time of his speech unemployment rate was 9.34 percent. Six years later, it stands at 11.43%, with many university graduates without jobs.

I have applied inverted commas to the quote “economy is not big enough to absorb them” because Lungu implied he would fix the economy. Yet, six years later, Lungu has lived down to Zambia’s lowest expectations and saddled Zambia’s economy with a crippling $12 billion. Consequently, he has triggered a worse economy than before he assumed power.

The following year, in the inauguration speech of September 13, 2016, Lungu promised to commit himself to the eradication of corruption, describing it as detrimental to society, adding; “engaging in corruption cannot be a substitute to the pride that comes from personal effort and determination to achieve prosperity.” Be that as it may, five years later, Zambia faces the worst corruption challenges in history, with government officials as the main culprits.

It is proper at this juncture to categorically state that President Edgar Changwa Lungu, who campaigned on numerous promises, has failed to answer the call of service. Instead, he has sought refuge in authoritarianism and reigns over the most violent ruling party in democratic Zambia.

Who can forget gassing—the spraying of people with chemicals, an act that claimed the lives of 43 people. Chemical weaponry classified as a weapon of mass destruction under the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is a human rights violation under the Hague Convention. President Lungu, who has failed to appoint a commission of inquiry, owns the crime.

Amnesty International is aware of the killings and other human rights violations. “There has been such a rise in the levels of impunity that it now seems like a bottomless pit,” said one human rights defender. “There does not seem to be any bounds in terms of impunity and violations.” He was referring to the police killing, in cold blood, of State Prosecutor Nsama Nsama and UPND supporter Joseph Kaunda.

Another added: “What we have seen in Zambia, especially in the past five years, is an increasingly brutal crackdown on human rights, characterized by brazen attacks on any form of dissent…opposition leaders, journalists, media houses, and activists have been targeted, and speaking out against allegations of government corruption or abuse has become more dangerous.”
Give Hakainde Hichilema the critical vote of your life

Before I proceed to Hakainde Hichilema, I want to pause and ask questions only you in your heart of hearts can answer: Has Lungu lifted Zambians out of poverty? How do you feel when you drive through a shanty compound? Is there a way life can be better for them as well? Has Lungu changed the University of Zambia and the education system in general for the better? Has Lungu curbed corruption? Are you and members of your extended family able to afford the daily needs of life? Do you and your aging parents in the village have access to proper health care?

If not, then why are you going to walk into the voting booth and cast a vote for the same person who has caused an economic meltdown and taken away your happiness? Why not try another leader? Why not try Hakainde Hichilema? In the last election, he came close to winning; why not give him the benefit of the doubt? It is not a matter of political party allegiance; it is the stuff your dreams are made on.
As of now, your dreams are windswept by a leader who, for the past six years, had an opportunity to afford you the privilege of living a meaningful, happy life.

Hakainde Hichilema may not be the president of your choice, but he has the skills and experience to provide you with a better life. An economist and a successful businessman, Hichilema is well suited to the challenge. Unlike Edgar Lungu, Hichilema, who in the past has contested five times (2006, 2008, 2011, 2015, and 2016), has enough political experience to recognize the magnitude of what the next president is being called upon to do. Building this country sits squarely within his skill and expertise.

A review of Hichilema’s speeches and interviews shows that he is a visionary man who believes Zambia has enough intelligent and skilled people who can band together to get the basics right and turn the country into an astonishingly successful modern nation.

Hichilema believes he can steer the nation out of the current recession by stopping reckless, unplanned, and excessive borrowing and strengthen the legal and regulatory framework for debt procurement and management. He believes this will create a stable currency, low inflation, good jobs, substantial foreign investment, and augment a much-needed middle class.

Hichilema has continually discussed the urgent need for an affordable educational system to spur invention and innovation in his various media appearances. So often, he has, with a sense of purpose, sounded like Kaunda, saying, “we will also be able to pay students descent meal allowances and help them buy books.”
Zambian lives matter

Take a moment to think about what Hichilema is offering. On Election Day, you will be left with two choices; to vote for Hakainde Hichilema, a conscientious individual who has laid out a comprehensive vision for your wellbeing; or the incumbent Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who has failed to deliver his promises. It is not about politics. It is about casting the right vote to avoid chronic suffering. Re-electing Lungu for another five years is a metastasizing threat to your survival.

Fashion Sakala salutes Rangers support as Real Madrid goal hero declares ‘I’m waiting to see them bounce’

New Rangers hero Fashion Sakala has thanked the fans for their support as he notched his first goal in light blue against none other than Real Madrid.

And though he was awed by the part-capacity Ibrox, his team-mates have told him one thing: wait until you see them bounce.

The Zambian striker, who joined on a pre-contract from KV Oostende, was given his first start by Steven Gerrard in Sunday’s friendly against the La Liga giants and 13-time Champions League winners.

He made an impression from the start but it was in the 55th minute that he slipped through a gaping Real defence and blasted past the impressive Andriy Lunin in goal before Cedric Itten would clinch a 2-1 win.

Speaking to Rangers TV, Sakala said: “I was very much excited and I’m very happy to play in the presence of fans.

“I was surprised by the noise but my team-mates were telling me that I have to wait until the stadium is full, that I haven’t seen how they bounce – so I’m waiting for that!

“It means a lot, this is something I was looking for, I really wanted to score in the presence of the fans.

“I’m very happy and proud with the team, and my team-mates are making things a little bit easier for me.”

The frontman had a long 10-day slog in hotel self-isolation as he itched to make his debut.

And he revealed he was slightly apprehensive about emerging from his personal bubble to meet his new pals – but online messages from the squad put him at ease.

“It has been very hard,” Sakala added. “I was in quarantine for 10 days and to come out of that was a little bit stressful.

“But I got the full support from the club, the messages from the players when I was in quarantine helped me because I was worried who I should be talking to when I come out of quarantine.

“But the messages helped me settle in very fast.”

Start The Process Of Transferring Power To HH – Sara Imutowa Yeta II

START THE PROCESS OF TRANSFERRING POWER TO HAKAINDE HICHILEMA

For the first time, I agree with denialists that there is no wind of change in Zambia at all because there is infact a hurricane gust of change.

Today Solwezi came to a stand still because of Hakainde Hichilema’s presence stirring up hope in people for a better country for all Zambians.

Multitudes of people waited for him at the airport and triumphantly escorted him to different townships in Solwezi.

The popularity displayed today is unprecedented and explains why the current rogue regime did not want him to fly to Solwezi.

One needs to be irredeemably naive to deny the hurricane gust of change sweeping across Solwezi and the country at large.

It is now clear that denialists of the hurricane gust of change sweeping across the country have chosen to deny this reality as a way of avoiding to deal with an uncomfortable truth of the inevitable change coming soon.

Refusal to accept an empirically verifiable reality of the hurricane gust of change is an essentially irrational action that withholds validation of our historical experience and current political events in Zambia.

The segment of society that is struggling with the trauma of the hurricane gust of change is one that has turned away from political and socio-economic reality on the ground in favor of a more comfortable lie that the sitting regime is still popular.

The rejection of the hurricane gust of change that is now undisputed and well-supported by scientific consensus of independent opinion polls and intelligence reports in favour of ideas that are based on the rigged glory of past elections and continued misinformation that Hichilema is a social media president is the remaining consolation for denialists.

To all denialists of the hurricane gust of change I have free advice; reject the overwhelming evidence of consensus on the inevitable change in August at your own peril.

No amount of creationists ideas of infrastructure built that is overpriced therefore ridden with corruption will stop the evolutionary idea led by Hichilema because people are sick and tired of the sitting regime.

The best the current regime can do is to come down from the high horse of denialism and start the process of transferring power to the next, seventh, republican president, one of the most important processes in our Zambian democracy
