HH president of S/Province, we won’t allow him to mobilise anywhere else – Lusambo

LUSAKA Province Minister Bowman Lusambo says UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has locked himself out of the Copperbelt because his supporters booed President Edgar Lungu in Monze.

In an interview, Lusambo said Hichilema was a president of Southern Province and would not be allowed to mobilize in other parts of the country.

“Hakainde Hichilema has locked up himself. He is the President of Monze and Southern Province because other parts, we will not allow him to mobilize. President Lungu is a flag carrier, you should give him respect. Let them behave like that when we are with councilors not the President. The Copperbelt is a no go area for the UPND as long as I remain the mobilization coordinator. If they want politics of caderism, they know me. We are not going to tolerate that nonsense! They are coming for massacre in the Copperbelt. We are not going to allow stupidity. The President is always on duty 24/7 and he has no restrictions to visit any constituencies. We are going to protect the President of the Republic of Zambia and we are going to assure the UPND that the line has been drawn,” Lusambo said.

“We are not going to allow any misbehaving in Lusaka in case they (UPND) have forgotten me. Zambia’s democracy has grown and this time around, we should be competing on issue based campaigns and not on caderism. We should know that we have a President in State House and he is the constitution holder for our country and he has mandate to work. And those youths who have been used, stop this! President Lungu wants youths who are productive, youths who add value to the development of our country. It is very unfortunate that the UPND can start playing those politics, some of us we have PHDs in that type of politics so there is no one who can compete with me. Hakainde Hichilema is a baby in politics.”

Lusambo said Non-Governmental Organizations should condemn youths who booed President Lungu in Monze.

“The NGOs that support things that are not good, we want them to condemn these things. We are waiting for their voices. If it was Bowman in Kabushi, the entire radio wave would have been Bowman. If they are not going to condemn these things, let them be assured that we know these politics extremely well and we can’t be beaten on this. We have no apology to make, President Lungu is not a President for a kantemba (sole trader) political party like the UPND, he is presiding over the economy over the country. It is not a joke. They are not only offending President Lungu but his supporters as well. If this a game they want, we will enjoy it,” said Lusambo.

It’s foolish for Chisela to ululate Lungu, PF – Syakalima

UPND senior presidential advisor Douglas Syakalima says it is foolish and stupid for Zambia Correctional Service commissioner general Chileshe Chisela, a civil servant, to ululate President Edgar Lungu and the PF.

Like a desperate PF member of the central committee, Dr Chisela heaped praise on President Lungu on Saturday, with utter incoherence.

He promised that the Zambia Correctional Service would do everything possible to help the PF and President Lungu’s government.

Dr Chisela also emphasised that correctional officers would never entertain anyone who ‘does not support President Lungu’ to enter Monze Open Correctional Facility to woo votes.

He was speaking when President Lungu commissioned 70 housing units for correctional officers in Monze.

Dr Chisela oddly poured out his heart, to his appointing authority.

Reacting to Dr Chisela’s remarks, Syakalima, who is Chirundu UPND member of parliament, said the former had a misconception.

“For him to say that he is going to help PF win an election in 2021, it misconceived. It is actually utter rubbish for him as a civil servant to talk like that. By saying no one from the opposition will be allowed to go and campaign in correctional facilities, he is putting the Electoral Commission of Zambia in an awkward position, especially [Patrick] Nshindano,” Syakalima said in an interview. “If Chisela is saying ‘no one should go and campaign in correctional facilities,’ he is running against the Constitution. He is committing an offence against the judiciary. So, what will the ECZ say now?”

He said the UPND was waiting to see or hear what the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) would do or say concerning Dr Chisela’s remarks on opposition campaigns in correctional facilities.

“We want to know from the ECZ what they will do to this particular person. If you check, the young man was too incoherent. I know him; he was my student in the third year at medical school. That’s not the way he was. But the young man just had to look foolish and stupid to ululate the PF and Lungu,” Syakalima charged. “What Chisela must know is that these constructions in the barracks and police quarters, the foundation was started by president Levy Mwanawasa in 2002. This was a leader with foresight who knew what was going to happen. But these PF people had to borrow money to continue with this programme.”

He stressed that Dr Chisela went overboard and that, “I was feeling very sad, to tell you the truth.”

“Here is a person who was normal in class [but] all of a sudden, he is disjointed in saying everything. Now you can imagine that we already have a person of this nature – [Kakoma] Kanganja (Inspector General of Police). Now this one (Chisela)!” Syakalima lamented.

“I hope the Army commander and his counterpart in ZAF will not emulate these. Other security agencies should not behave like this.”

He further noted that the PF were on their way out, “whether Chisela likes it or not.”

“Zambians have made up their mind; they cannot continue suffering like this,” said Syakalima.

“We are dealing with immoral people in the PF government. They are not ashamed of themselves! How can you even want to praise corrupt people? No! My young man must come back to his senses that I knew before.”

PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU APOLOGIZES FOR MISLEADING ZAMBIANS OVER THE MAZABUKA / KAFUE ROAD

PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU APOLOGIZES FOR MISLEADING ZAMBIANS OVER THE MAZABUKA / KAFUE ROAD
By Watch Reporter
President Edgar Lungu has apologized to the nation for a misleading statement and pictures over the construction of the Kafue/ Mazabuka road.

President Lungu says the pictures which were used to show the works on the Mazabuka/Kafue road do not represent the actual works as they were taken in another country.

The pictures have attracted serious public outcry, with some Nigerians claiming the pictures too.

Later in the day, President Lungu removed the said pictures with an apology.
Meanwhile former Presidential Aide Dickson Jere has expressed concern over the misinformation from the office of the President.
Jere says heads must roll for embarrassing the Head of State.

Heads Must Roll
By Dickson Jere
I rarely comment on the work of State House – media team – because I once served in that role and I understand the pressure and difficulties that come with those jobs. However, certain mistakes can never be forgiven. One such is this one where the Presidential handlers used picture of road construction from another country saying it was in Zambia!
Just how?

State House has two full-time photographers backed by ZANIS team. How can one embarrass the Head of State in this manner and still keep the job? My brother Isaac Chipampe ought to be firm and make sure those running the Facebook page of the President are read a “riot act”.

My comment is actually triggered by the fact that I am a practicing Intellectual Property (IP) lawyer and one of the things we frown upon badly is plagiarism! You cannot use someone work (picture in this case) without attributing it to the author. What if Zambia is sued???? This is embarrassing to say the least and will soon go viral on international press.
We need to respect the office of the President and maintain the required decorum. Using someone picture from another country is simply unforgivable!

Lundazi MP has no Grade 12 certificate – ECZ

THE Zambia Qualifications Authority and the Examination Council of Zambia have told the Constitutional Court that the General Gertificate of Education and other qualifications that Lundazi Central member of parliament Lawrence Nyirenda submitted to the Electoral Commission of Zambia when filing in nominations are not equal to a Grade 12 certificate.

In this matter, losing candidate for Lundazi Central Constituency Lieutenant Colonel Bizwayo Nkunika wants the Constitutional Court to declare the Lundazi parliamentary seat vacant and order the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to hold elections within 90 days.

Colonel Nkunika, who has cited Lawrence Nyirenda as the first respondent and ECZ as the second respondent in the matter, claims that the lawmaker does not have the minimum academic qualifications as prescribed under Article 70 (1) (d) of the
Constitution of Zambia because he does not hold a minimum grade 12 certificate.

Last month the Constitutional Court summoned the Zambia Qualifications Authority and the Examination Council of Zambia to appear before it and explain what constitutes a grade 12 certificate or its equivalent.

This was after Nyirenda told the court that he did not know that a grade 12 certificate is constituted of five subjects.

During cross-examination by Nkunika’s lawyer Chifumu Banda, Nyirenda said that he was not aware whether the documents he presented during filing in of nominations, which were a General Certificate of Education with one pass in English, a ZNS certificate, a certificate in computers and certificate in theology training by extension, were not equivalent to a grade 12 certificate.

Banda asked Nyirenda whether he was aware that a grade 12 certificate should contain passes in 5 or more subjects and also whether he was aware that the documents he presented at the time of nominations were not equivalent.

In his response, Nyirenda explained that he does not know what really qualifies as a grade 12 certificate or its equivalent because it was not written anywhere.

He argued that the fact that his qualifications where accepted when filing nominations it meant that he qualified to contest the elections and subsequently be in Parliament.

Nyirenda’s explaination forced the court to summon witnesses from ZAQA and ECZ to explain what constitutes a grade 12 certificate and adjourned the matter to July 8.

When the matter came up for hearing, court president Hilda Chibomba, judges Ann Sitali, Mungeni Mulenga, Palan Mulonda, ZAQA director and chief executive officer Miriam Chiyabi discredited the institutions which awarded Nyirenda skills certificates because they were not recognised by the authority.

During cross-examination Banda asked Chibiya to confirm whether the certificates in military training, computers and music which were awarded to Nyirenda by different institutions amount to an academic qualification and whether they are equivalent to a grade 12 certificate, Chibiya denied.

Asked if Nyirenda’s certificate of achievement awarded by Lundazi Provincial Teacher’s Resource Centre was equivalent to a Grade 12 certificate, Chibiya responded in the negative, saying the same was a short course and it was not given by an awarding body recognised by the authority.

When asked by Nyirenda’s lawyer Tutwa Ngulube on whether a GCE was equivalent to a grade twelve certificate, Chibiya said: “A General Certificate of Education is equivalent to a grade 12 certificate if it has five subjects including English language and should have two credits or better.

She said a general certificate of education could contain one subject but for it to be equivalent to a grade certificate, it should have six subjects with a pass and including English and on credit or better.

“It (GCE) can only be recognised as a grade 12 certificate if it has six subjects, including English and should have two credits or better,” said Chibiya.

Asked by lawyer representing the Electoral Commission of Zambia on whether the level of descriptance were confirmed before or after the filing in of nominations in 2016, Chibiya said the same was confirmed after filing in nominations.

Earlier, Examination Council of Zambia director and chief executive officer Dr Micheal Chilala told the court the General Certificate of Education which depicts only one subject being English, which Nyirenda submitted to the electoral body was not equivalent to a full Grade 12 certificate.

Dr Chilala said a school certificate was an academic qualification awarded to a person who satisfies two conditions in one and the same examination (i) an individual should obtains a Pass in 6 subjects including English language and atleast one among the six subjects should be credit and (ii) A pass in atleast five subjects including English with atleast two of the five should be credit or better.

When asked if the General Certificate of Education was the same as a school certificate, Dr Chilala responded in the negative, explaining that a General Certificate of Education becomes equivalent to a school certificate if the number of the subjects meet those prescribed to constitute a school certificate.

He said that Nyirenda’s General Certificate of Education which has one subject (English) is not equivalent to a school certificate neither is the General Certificate of Education which he obtained in 2019 depicting four passes because the requirement of a minimum of five subjects including English language, and two credits was not met.

“A grade 12 certificate and a school certificate are one and the same. Grade 12 is a common name used, the actual name is school certificate which is awarded to an individual after 12 years of schooling upon meeting the qualifications set by ECZ. Only a person who sat for grade nine exams is capable of sitting for grade twelve exams because they use the same examination number which they used at junior level,” Dr Chilala said.

When asked by Ngulube if ECZ was authorised to issue degrees, Dr Chilala said the mandate of ECZ was to issue certificates and diplomas and not degrees therefore other skill qualifications obtained by Nyirenda were not academic qualifications.

He said that the Examination Council confirmed that Nyirenda’s General Certificate of Education was a valid GCE and not a grade 12 certificate.

Dr Chilala affirmed that a General Certificate of Education was an official qualification.

“GCE exams run on the same standards as grade 12. For GCE, one can enter for one or more subjects, GCE is awarded even if a person passes one subject. For grade 12, one is supposed to enter for six subjects. A person who sits grade 12 must have a grade nine certificate but a person who sits for GCE does not need a grade nine certificate, they cannot follow the 12-year of schooling,” said Dr Chilala.

He added that the General Certificate of Education obtained by Nyirenda was authentic.

At this point justice Chibomba indicated that the court would reserve judgement to a later date to be communicated.

Burkina Faso: 180 bodies found in ‘killing field’

0

At least 180 bodies have been found in mass graves in northern Burkina Faso where soldiers are fighting jihadists, a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report says.

“Available evidence suggests government forces were involved in mass extrajudicial executions,” HRW says.

Over seven months, the bodies had been dumped near the town of Djibo in groups of up to 20, before being buried by local residents.

Burkina Faso’s defence minister suggested militants might be to blame.

“It is difficult for the population to distinguish between armed terrorist groups and the defence and security forces,” Chérif Moumina Sy told the campaign group in response to the findings.

But the minister said the government would investigate the allegations.

‘Killing field’
Burkina Faso, a landlocked country in West Africa, has been fighting Islamist insurgents with ties to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group since 2016.

Corinne Dufka, Sahel director at HRW, said Djibo had been turned into a “killing field”.

The campaign group said the government should seek assistance from the UN and others to conduct proper exhumations, return the remains to families and hold those responsible to account.

The men had been found shot dead under bridges, in fields and along major roads within a 5km (three-mile) radius of Djibo between November 2019 and June 2020, HRW said.

‘Blindfolded’
HRW researchers interviewed 23 people in the town – including farmers, traders, herders, civil servants, community leaders and aid workers – who believed the security forces had detained the men as suspected members or supporters of Islamist militant groups.

“So many of the dead were blindfolded, had their hands tied up… and were shot in the head,” one community leader told HRW.

“The bodies I saw appeared in the morning… dumped at night on the outskirts of Djibo, a town under the control of the army and in the middle of a curfew imposed and patrolled by the army.”

Residents said the bodies they found and later buried had not turned up on days when they had been aware of clashes or battles taking place between the security forces and militants.

“At night, so many times I’d hear the sound of vehicles and then, bam! bam! bam! And the next morning we’d see or hear of bodies found in this place or that,” a farmer told HRW.

According to HRW, an ethnic dynamic underscores the violence in the north where jihadist groups largely recruit from the nomadic Peul or Fulani communities.

Their attacks have primarily targeted farming groups including the Mosssi, Foulse, and Gourmantche.

Most of those found dead near Djibo were Peul, who are perceived to support the armed Islamists, the HRW report says.

How serious is the jihadi threat in West Africa?
The security crisis in the Sahel began when an alliance of separatists and Islamist militants took over northern Mali in 2012. France then launched a military intervention against them.

Although a peace deal was signed in 2015, it was never fully implemented.

New armed groups have since emerged and expanded to central Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, including groups linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group (IS). BBC News

People May Have Negative Attitude Towards PF, But We Shall Explain And They Will Listen During Campaigns – GBM

By Patson Chilemba

People may have a negative attitude towards the PF today, but we shall explain and they will listen when we start campaigning, says the ruling party’s deputy chairperson for Mobilisation Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM).

And GBM has charged that opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is a danger to society, accusing him of having mobilised people in Monze to boo President Edgar Lungu.

GBM also said the PF has come up with a new strategy to get to every area of the country, even in areas where the party did not have majority support as not everybody there will reject them.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, GBM was asked if the strategy where ruling party leaders have been touring areas where the ruling party was not too popular, was born out of a realisation that their support in urban centers could be waning.

GBM was also asked on the negative sentiment against the party on social and independent traditional media platforms, especially phone in programmes.

But in response, GBM said social media was not a barometer of the popularity of any political party, saying that was why the UPND kept getting it wrong. He said with social media platforms, one could even post 100 comments using different accounts, saying the PF will not be swayed by the negative comments.

GBM said the ruling party had brought unprecedented development, especially in urban areas, and that the economic challenges being faced by the people were not only unique to Zambia alone but globally. He said people more especially in urban areas must understand as they were more enlightened with the happenings globally.

GBM said the PF was comfortable knowing that the people would understand, saying today they may be complaining but when it comes to campaigns and the voting day, everything would be different as the party would explain what was causing the turbulences.

“We shall be explaining and the people will be listening,” GBM said. “Today they may have a negative attitude towards the PF because they haven’t understood fully what has caused the economic turbulence in the country, but when we start campaigning we shall be able to explain to the majority Zambians.”

And GBM elaborated on the new strategy the ruling party had come up with, saying in every fight one has to come up with a strategy and that was what the ruling party had done to get to every area of the country, even in areas where they were not too popular, as not everybody would reject them.

“So basically it’s just another strategy of PF we want to get to everyone and assure everybody that President Lungu means well for everybody in all corners of Zambia in all the 10 provinces. Because in politics I will tell you you don’t underrate anyone, an opponent,” GBM said, adding that PF wanted everyone to know that they had no barriers of tribal lines. “We don’t want to say that Southern, Northern Western or Western belong to UPND. No, as far as we are concerned it’s Zambia because there is only one President and that is President Edgar Lungu. So why shouldn’t we reach out to everyone? That has been our new strategy now.”

President Lungu was booed in Monze recently during one of his countrywide campaign tours. But GBM said he was very disappointed with the behaviour of the people of Monze against the head of state, pointing the responsibility at Hichilema.

GBM said Hichilema was a danger to society, saying having worked with the opposition leader, he must have been the one who sent the people to boo President Lungu.

He said Hichilema must realise that President Lungu was elected with over 100,000 votes over him, and therefore had the people’s mandate. GBM said he was subjected to the same the last time he was in Monze for court appearances, urging the UPND leader that he would not want to be treated in the same manner.

“I have worked with him, he must have been the one who sent the people to boo the President,” said GBM. – Daily Revelation

TRIBUTE TO MAJOR WEZI KAUNDA 1952-1999

0

We don’t talk about him much yet he served Zambia very well.

I first met Major Wezi Kaunda in 1988 when he was Zambia’s Home Affairs Minister of State. I liked him immediately as we chatted in his office which was then at the Secretariat. We had been working on something which his father, President Kenneth Kaunda would get involved at some point. In later years we met and talked on the phone quite a bit.

Major Wezi’s military background inculcated tremendous discipline and respect for people and in everything he did.

I noted that everytime he mentioned his father’s name, he was very official about it. “I think His Excellency would like that” or “I will consult the President and get back to you”, he would say. I had worked with him helping out in the South Luangwa National Park where Colgate-Palmolive had financed projects in wildlife conservation in the area.

The most politically active son of Dr Kaunda and his wife, Betty, I had this gut feeling that this third-born son was destined to be a leader in Zambia in some important capacity in the future. I often thought of him as a Sanjay or Rajiv Gandhi.

He had campaigned and won the Malambo parliamentary seat and was appointed Minister of State in 1988. Sadly, he was assassinated at the young age of 47 years in November 1999. Yes, I believe it was an assassination. A few years ago, I stood by his father’s side, together with his sister Cheswa and brother Kaweche, as we visited and paid our respects at his graveside at Old Leopards Hill Cemetary.

Just over a couple of weeks ago, his daughter who was very little when her father was killed, got married overseas and I was privileged and honored when requested to play a minor role for the wedding by rekindling memories of the greateness of the bride’s father whom she really didn’t get to know. I am told it was a pleasant surprise for her. I will post wedding photos separately.

Major Wezi was a keen sportsman. He had played football for the top military side at the time, Green Buffaloes Football Club and loved the game of squash. I played two fundraising football matches against him and believe me, the man was fit.

A wonderful human being. An Officer and a Gentleman who served his country extremely well. A hero.

2021 elections may not be credible, warns Phiri

ZITUKULE Consortium says it is concerned that the 2021 general elections may be devoid of electoral integrity and credibility going by the behaviour of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and some stakeholders.

Executive director Nicholas Phiri said earlier this year, the ECZ unilaterally decided to cancel the practice of independent observation of the printing of ballot papers for the 2021 general elections by political parties and civil society.

Phiri said while the ECZ argued that it was unable to meet the cost for supporting an observation mission, the practice remains a vital and integral ingredient for confidence building in the electoral management process in Zambia, where the integrity of the electoral body is questionable.

“Several stakeholders have requested the ECZ to reconsider its stance on this matter. Interestingly, ECZ has stuck to its own wisdom. In whose interest is the ECZ working? Has the Commission considered the cost of civil strife resulting from disputed election results? Secondly, the ECZ has also maintained, against stakeholder’s advice, that voter registration will be for 30 days only,” he said.

“The previous voter register had more than 6.7 million voters. ECZ is reportedly targeting to capture nine million new voters for the 2021 voter register, all this in 30 days! This translates into 300,000 voters in eight hours per day or 37,500 voters per hour or 625 voters per minute, assuming that there is no breakdown in the registration system at any given point in the said 30 days. Is this a joke or comedy?”

Phiri said ECZ must be clear on that matter.

“Are they talking about a new voters’ roll or it’s an upgrade of the exiting voters’ roll in which case the Commission would be looking for about three million new voters or less?” he asked.

“Thirdly, the continued unguarded pronouncements from government officials including ministers and the Head of State creates doubt about the credibility of our electoral and governance systems. For instance, Minister of Defence Mr Davis Chama suggests that invoking constitutional provision as provided in article 52 to challenge the eligibility of President Lungu would result into civil unrest. How can a lawful act precipitate an unlawful act?”

He asked what message Chama was giving to the men and women in uniform under his command.

“In the same vein, it’s not long ago when the President stated in no uncertain terms that he would not give up power even if citizens voted him out of office. Isn’t this treasonous and therefore unlawful? Is the system daring or testing citizens’ tolerance levels? Are these statements coincidental and from without?” asked Phiri. “In view of the foregoing, we hold the view that the 2021 elections may not be credible, a situation which is likely to be met with fierce resistance and pushback from stakeholders and citizens. We wish to call on the ECZ, government and all stakeholders to draw lessons from a poorly managed 2016 general election as well as the developing electoral trends in the region and across the globe to craft a credible electoral system for ourselves.”

South Africa gets its first online cannabis university

South Africans who would want to enter the cannabis industry or add cannabis expertise to their skills set now have an option to do so anywhere and at any time as far as there is an internet connection.

Cheeba Africa, a cannabis health and wellness company selling all kinds of cannabis products, has introduced the country’s first online academy that deals with cannabis specifically.

The company’s Cheeba Cannabis Academy, which is Africa’s first dedicated cannabis academy, has opened its online portal providing short courses that touch on the general information and medical aspects about cannabis, including its use and effects on the body as well its laws and regulations.

The online portal is being operated in partnership with a similar U.S.-based institution called Medical Marijuana 411, though courses have been updated to localize content where relevant.

Marijuana or cannabis remains a controversial drug, yet, globally, more and more states are passing laws to allow the sale of marijuana in some form. In Africa, countries like Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and South Africa are beginning to tap into the profitable industry following the global rise in the use of cannabis.

In South Africa, the marijuana industry alone is expected to be worth more than $7.1 billion annually by 2023, according to market intelligence and strategic consultancy firm Prohibition Partner.

The online academy has, therefore, come at the right time, analysts say, as the provision of training and education is crucial to ensure the sustainability and growth of the industry.

“Cannabis has the potential to positively impact our economy, facilitating large-scale job creation, uplifting low-income communities, especially in under-served rural areas as well as contributing to the overall improvement of people’s health.

“However, in order for this to happen, we need to provide opportunities for people to develop industry-specific skills. Cheeba Africa is proud to be the first contributor in this space” said Trenton Birch, co-founder of the Cheeba Cannabis Academy.

The short courses, which are currently available online and open for enrolment, are the Medical Professional Course, Medical Professional Bundle Course, Cannabis 101, and Cannabis Fundamentals.

“Our Cannabis 101 course contains general information about Cannabis, the basic science of “why” Cannabis works with our own endocannabinoid system, differences between CBD and THC (you don’t have to get high to use the healing properties of the plant), the law and types of products that are available,” the academy says on its website.

The Medical Professional Bundle Course is largely for medical professionals. “You will learn about the legal framework of working with medical marijuana patients, the basics of the cannabis plant, the Endocannabinoid System, and how cannabinoid receptors work with our bodies,” according to the academy.

The courses range from R1,100 (approx. CAD$90) to R3,900 (approx. CAD$300) and depending on the course selected, students can get a certificate within a year. However, they won’t be locally recognized as the academy is not yet accredited.

“Cheeba is busy with a few South African accreditations, which we will announce once they are confirmed,” said Birch whose academy’s advisory board includes doctors, pharmacists and other industry experts.

Cheeba Cannabis Academy joins the growing number of colleges that are adding cannabis courses to their curriculum and even offering complete degree programs.

The move has basically been necessitated by the increasing demand for qualified employees across the cannabis industry supply chain and the increasing need for medical professionals to safely advise patients about medical cannabis, said Cannabiz media.

Marijuana, in several parts of the world, is being used to alleviate suffering from cancer, HIV and AIDS, and other deadly diseases.

Critics, however, fear that relaxing laws on its use can lead to drug abuse and other crime-related activities. In South Africa, private use of marijuana locally referred to as dagga, is not a criminal offense.

“It will not be a criminal offense for an adult person to use or be in possession of cannabis in private for his or her personal consumption,” South Africa’s Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo said in a landmark ruling in 2018.

The ruling was welcomed by thousands of marijuana users in South Africa who had, over the years, been organizing marches on the streets of Cape Town asking for drug laws to be amended in order to reap the medicinal and recreational benefits of cannabis.

President Edgar Lungu’s running battles with Tongas

By David Zulu

President Edgar Lungu is the only incumbent since 1964 to have a visible protracted frosty relation with Southerners. His running battles with the region has only brought about the ugly side of Zambian politics. Southerners have generally been an accommodating people to Presidents they politically oppose, and nothing has come out of this ‘cat and mouse’ game we are currently witnessing between the President and the region.

As a matter of fact, Southern Province was an MMD stronghold the entire two terms of a Bemba speaking Head of State, Fredrick Chiluba. The Tongas twice gave Chiluba a 100% resounding victory which his own native Luapula, Copperbelt and Eastern Provinces did not attain, due to stubborn pockets of UNIP presence, that still hung thick in the areas in question. No other Province had voted for a candidate outside their region than the Tongas during the Chiluba tenure.

Readers will appreciate that UPND President Hakainde Hichilema who appears to be a bone of contention in the relationship between President Lungu and the Southerners has sat through three incumbents namely, Presidents Levy Mwanawasa, Rupiah Banda, Michael Sata and the fourth being Dr Edgar Lungu himself. Nothing of the political skirmishes and altercations ever took place in the first three, until Mr Lungu came on the scene. Many attribute this to President Lungu’s deliberate failure to distinguish between the Tonga tribe as a separate entity from the UPND, a political party led by a Tonga.

This is a bizarre theory of a Tonga ‘Bantustan’ image that was successfully sold by now-defunct Post Newspaper’ which painted Tongas and UPND as a unitary enterprise conjoined at the hip like a set of siamese twins. To President Edgar Lungu, Tongas and UPND are clearly one and must be (mis)treated in one fashion or another.

Symbolic oppression

There may be several reasons (why ??? Is happening OR that Tongas are marginalised) but one of them is President Lungu’s policy of symbolic oppression, a sanctioned ideology used to justify relationships of domination and subordination through labeling and the stereotype of targeted groups. The President has persistently compartmentalised the collective character of Southerners, to demonstrate certain personal feelings on what he perceives as lack of political support from Southern Province. This negates the principles of democratic choice of a given people.

During his latest visit to the Province, the President cajoled and mocked Mr Hichilema as a ‘Tonga Bull’, who fails to use his personal wealth to construct Chiefs’ palaces in the Pronvice. The President attempted to draw parallels between the Presidency that uses public resources for public projects, and a private citizen who pays tax to the state. Mr Lungu’s habit of maligning the entire Tonga tribe each time he perceives a grievance against his main political rival has been a great source of conflict between the Tonga people and his Presidency.

During the campaign for a parliamentary candidate in Lusaka’s Chawama constituency in the last election, the President used negative stereotype in describing Hichilema in an unsavoury tag of ‘Kachema wa N’gombe’, a loosely translated- a ‘cow minder’. This moniker is miles away from the respectful and prestigious business of a cattle rancher, that indeed the opposition leader is. Instead Dr Edgar Lungu refers to him using the veiled insult of a ragged, poverty-stricken shepherd.

President Lungu has often used coded language that in some ways is explicitly and other ways implicitly used as a substitute for personally targeted tribalism. Many viewed the above term (Kachema) as a subtle and symbolic interpretation of the Southerners as animals, and Hichilema as their leading bull. Their suspicions were confirmed when a few days later, Lungu’s senior Party official Mumbi Phiri referred to Tongas as cows, a slur that she was not reprimanded for.

Overt discrimination

While on a visit to Livingstone in late 2019, the President made a staggering statement declaring that as long as he lived, there would be no Tonga President, a narrative quickly adopted and parroted by senior government and party officials who held meetings in the Northern regions of the country, which Mr Lungu’s political party views as their stronghold. Chanda Nyela, Bizwell Mutale, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba and Cabinet Ministers Nkandu Luo and Chris Yaluma traversed the Republic addressing rallies and conducting a blitz of radio interviews casting Tongas as dangerous, segregative and vengeful people.

The stage had indeed been set for a full blown institutional demonization, that however received deafening silence from a President who appeared to have been gleefully enjoying the moment. Not a finger was lifted by Mr Lungu to condemn his leaders in what were clearly highly charged, divisive and inflammatory language that had potential to trigger a genocide against Tongas who live in the Northern regions of Zambia.

Covert discrimination.

President Edgar Lungu has superintendented over an administration that has used tribal profiling of Tongas as a method to discriminate against them in government employment and public related contracts. Hundreds of young Southerners, Westerners, North Westerners and their sympathizers have been retired in ‘national interest’ albeit in the prime of their careers. This has been evidenced in government departments such as Defence and Security, quasi government organisations and the civil service.

An online publication ‘Koswe’ last year published what they called ‘yellow pages’ that comprised of a credible and verifiable list of Heads of Defence, Security, Paraststal, Diplomatic Service, Civil Service at Director and Permanent Secretary level where approximately 98% were occupied by individuals from the Northern and Eastern regions of Zambia.

PF’s open abuse of Hichilema

While participating in a live Radio interview in Kitwe in 2015, a horde of PF thugs armed with machetes and semi automatic weapons raided a studio demanding to see Hichilema. His security detail opened the roof of the Radio station through whose tiny hole he escaped to safety as the militia discharged live fire. On two occasions in the Northern Province PF supporters stoned Hichilema’s helicopter as the pilot was executing landing procedures. The pilot aborted landing.

Recently and in more than one occasion in Northern Province, HH’s radio interviews have been disrupted by PF thugs who have raided studios demanding that the stations cease broadcasting. Ofcourse the biggest incident is when police special forces conducted a midnight raid on Hichilema’s private residence, knocking down glass doors and windows and pumping tonnes of teargas as the opposition leader sheltered in a bunker with his family.

Conclusion

It is clear for all to see that regionalism is rife under Edgar Lungu. Turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to this evil spewed by his party and government officials seems to be PF government policy. If today citizens resort to booing and heckling, it’s because the chickens of your hatred and marginalisation have come home to roost. As father of ALL Zambians you have a moral and patriotic duty to unite your children. Give people their due respect and rise above the pettiness and incendiary language that is unbecoming of a Republican President, sir.

Hichilema & His UPND Are Not Fit To Govern, They Can Divide Zambia Along Tribal Lines – Nathan Chanda

HICHILEMA & HIS UPND ARE NOT FIT TO GOVERN, THEY CAN DIVIDE ZAMBIA ALONG TRIBAL LINES

Copperbelt, Wednesday 8th July 2020 – Patriotic Front (PF) party on the Copperbelt STRONGLY condemns the uncouth and disrespectful behaviour of opposition UPND members in Monze towards His Excellency, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu when he visited various districts in Southern Province – commissioning developmental projects.

It is very evident from the orchestrated behaviour of UPND leaders and their supporters in Monze that the UPND and their leader Hakainde Hichilema do NOT believe in the ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION MOTTO and instead are focused on producing a TRIBAL and REGIONAL President who wants to come and DIVIDE the country on TRIBAL and REGIONAL lines, threatening the PEACE and UNITY we have always enjoyed.

Since 1964, Zambia has always been a UNITED and PEACEFUL country under the ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION MOTTO which has been promoted by the founding leaders and subsequent Presidents who have governed the country. This is the reason President Edgar Lungu continues to visit and take development even to areas he was not voted for, and also meets traditional leaders in those areas to promote national unity.

We are aware that Southern province is the HIGHEST recipient of Infrastructure development under the PF government, followed by Western and Muchinga provinces. Key development projects in Southern province include the multi million dollar Kazungula bridge linking Zambia and Botswana, Kafue-Mazabuka road under construction, and numerous health, education, energy, housing, and road Infrastructure projects. We expect UPND and Mr Hichilema to appreciate these unprecedented development projects in the region where he comes from.

Zambia can not be governed by a TRIBAL or REGIONAL president who only wants to embrace their region and tribe. Zambia can only be governed by a ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT who embraces all 73 ethnic groupings and regions like President Edgar Lungu is doing. The levels of bitterness and desperation from the UPND is so alarming and for this reason we just want to send a word of caution to them, that if this continues UPND will test they own medicine. We are equal to the task. They will reap what their are planting.

We also want to remind Mr. Hakainde Hichilema that President Edgar Lungu is constitutionally elected as PRESIDENT by the people of Zambia and as such he deserves all the due respect. Having “perceived popularity” in only one region can never make one President. The UPND should understand that Zambia is bigger than a region and our country needs someone to continually bringing all tribes together like what His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is doing.

Our advice to Mr Hichilema is that he should not even bother to put his name on the ballot paper for next year’s elections as he has already disqualified himself from being a president for all Zambians.

We are also calling upon the Church, our Traditional Leaders and all well meaning Zambians to condemn this UNZAMBIAN behaviour exhibited by UPND because if left unchecked it can lead to ETHNIC and CIVIL WARS as we have seen in other unfortunate countries where political leaders promote hatred towards other tribes.

Our advice to all political leaders regardless of our party affiliations is to promote Love, Tolerance, Unity and Peace. Indeed, in diversity we need to coexist for leadership comes from God. We are all one and created in the wonderful image of God.

ONE ZAMBIA, ONE NATION!

Seven men pin down black teen who later died for throwing a sandwich

0

A disturbing surveillance video has emerged showing at least seven men violently restraining a black teenager, Cornelius Fredericks, at a Michigan youth center, who had a cardiac attack and died two days later.

The surveillance footage from the Lakeside Academy in Kalamazoo was released Tuesday by Detroit-area attorney Geoffrey Fieger, who represents Fredericks’ estate.

It showed the exact moments the 16-year-old was pushed to the floor and savagely pinned down by staffers of the Lake Lakeside Academy in Kalamazoo because he threw a sandwich in the cafeteria where other kids could be seen sitting. The incident happened on April 29.

Fredericks had cardiac arrest as he was being restrained and died two days later. The cause of death has been listed as homicide.

According to a civil lawsuit filed against the youth center on behalf of Fredericks’ family by Fieger, the teenager cried “I can’t breathe” as he was being restrained in the cafeteria for almost 12 minutes, The Associated Press reported.

On the said video, some of the men pulled on and held down Frederick’s arms and legs with others sitting on his chest and abdomen, the outlet reported. The teenager became lifeless when staffers tried to raise him up towards the end of the video before a CPR was performed on him.

“He’s not fighting at all … his shoes and his feet are just lying there,” Fieger said.

According to Fieger, investigations conducted by the state of Michigan revealed that staff members at the youth center also suffocated Frederick as a “form of discipline.”

“It is a horrific videotape and it demonstrates what other employees have told us is a culture of fear and abuse at the Lakeside facility,” Fieger said. “One employee told us that in order to work there all you needed was to be breathing and accept $13 per hour.”

“The mechanism for dealing with children in this facility was abuse and fear,” he added. “In fact, suffocation was regularly practiced upon children. They called it ‘fearing.’”

Three staffers – two males and a female – had been fired and charged with involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse in Fredericks’ death.

But Fieger argued that was not enough. “As you can see in the video, far more than two people are involved in suffocating him,” Fieger said. “I would urge them to reconsider other people … who are clearly involved in the killing of Cornelius.”

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services had a contract with Lakeside Academy to care for youths in the state’s foster care and juvenile justice systems. The contract was terminated following the April 29 incident all 125 youth being housed there removed.

Fredericks had been a ward of the state for several years, following his mother’s death when his father was incarcerated.

TOUCH HH AT YOUR OWN PERIL, LUSAMBO WARNED

By Watch Reporter
Copperbelt Province UPND chairman Elisha Mutambo has warned PF Kabushi Parliamentarian Bowman Lusambo that he will have himself to blame if he touched Hakainde Hichilema when he visits the province.

In a statement made available to the Watch Newspaper, Mutambo warns that the party will not sit idle while watch Lusambo and his thugs harrass the leader of the largest opposition party in the country.

He warns that Copperbelt is not like Lusaka where Lusambo raids bars and night clubs to beat up innocent people and get away with it.
Mutambo warns that Lusambo should reflect before he regrets his actions.
Below is a full statement from UPND
Press statement for immediate release from Copperbelt Province UPND Chairman Elisha Matambo

7th July 2021
LUSAMBO WILL HAVE HIMSELF TO BLAME IF HIS THUGS TOUCH HH
Lusambo’s rantings over President Hakainde Hichilema are meaningless and inconsequential but he must be sternly warned that should he attempt to carry out his threats to harm our leader, he will have himself to blame. Copperbelt is not Lusaka where he raids bars and nightclubs and beat up innocent people and gets away with it.
The dynamics of Copperbelt have radically changed from the time Lusambo was a malnourished so called ‘die hard’ MMD, shortly after he had graduated from being a grave digger. He should not think he is still as popular as when he was harassing and clobbering PF supporters on the Copperbelt.

If Bowman wants to gauge the strength of UPND on the Copperbelt, let him enquire from original PF members who his President has hounded out of the Party in preference for MMD, then he will cease from living in a fool’s paradise. Lusambo’s irrational and boot leaking behaviour is a great source of embarrassment to the pride and dignity of the Lambaland and the Lamba people on the Copperbelt and elsewhere.

Lambas are a peace loving, hard working and principled people who greatly respect relationships, cultures and traditions of other ethnicities in Zambia and not the kind of behaviour Bowman and his boss have introduced in our great country.

What Copperbelt wants are jobs and opportunities for all, not violence and thuggery as promoted by Lusambo and his Party. The PF regime has destroyed the economy due to the plundering of national resources and unbridled corruption. People across the country have rejected Lungu’s leadership because of the immense suffering, intolerance to divergent views that his administration has created in Zambia.

Let the PF be advised that Copperbelt is Hakainde Hichilema’s second home and Lambaland and the entire mining region fully stands and supports him and the UPND Party and come 2021, we shall once again give him a resounding victory in both Copperbelt urban and rural respectively. Bowman Lusambo’s claim of PF popularity on the Copperbelt is a far cry and is closing the stable doors after the horses have bolted.

Self-segregated whites-only town in South Africa launches e-currency

The controversial town of Orania in northern Cape Town, South Africa, has succeeded in launching its e-currency called e-Ora to support its Ora currency which has been in circulation since 2004 and is equivalent to a South African Rand.

The unrecognized independent Afrikaner state seeks self-determination and the promotion of the Afrikaner culture which was brought to South Africa by Dutch settlers in the 17th century.

Orania, which has a population of about 1,500, is managed as a private company and has been called racist for not admitting black people despite its town council’s claim of not screening prospective residents based on race.

The e-Ora, also referred to as “White Coin” is a blockchain technology developed by South African financial services company, Efficient Group, and is issued and controlled by Orania’s central bank, The Orania Spaar en Krediet Kooperatiewe Bank (OSK).

The currency is a partnership between the Afrikaner town and award-winning economist Dawie Roodt who said he is aware that working with Orania is controversial but the opportunity was too exciting to turn down.

It would not have an expiry date like the ora and is expected to reduce the cost of printing the notes which is about 3 percent of the ora’s value, reports Wired. The cryptocurrency will be first issued on Quorum, an open source, private blockchain developed by J. P. Morgan and based on Ethereum.

Johannesburg-based tech firm Andile Solutions has developed a mobile wallet that will allow Oranians to use the e-Ora outside the town with the hope that it would be widely accepted and one day become accessible to all when it moves onto a public blockchain, cites Wired.

They can also trade digital currencies between smartphones which will also help to eliminate fees that apply to certain credit card transactions.

Some Oranians who are seeking a self-sufficient community told Wired that the blockchain technology could “not only free our bank accounts from nosy regulators but also assume some of the core functions of government, from issuing driver’s licenses to recording real estate transactions.”

Orania was established in 1991 by Afrikaner enthusiasts including the widow of apartheid-era South African Prime Minister Hendrik Verwoerd who purchased an abandoned town around the Orange River to start an independent Afrikaner state (Volkstaat).

Orania town is often described as the remains of Apartheid, a system of institutionalized racial segregation and discrimination in South Africa that existed between 1948 and 1991.

Critics accuse the town’s authorities of rejecting the Rainbow Nation concept and trying to recreate pre-democratic South Africa within a territory.

Orania currency

But residents of the town contend that their desire to isolate themselves is motivated by the need to preserve their linguistic and cultural heritage and protect themselves from the high rate of crime in the country.

They issued the Ora after the idea was first conceived in 2002 by renowned Professor Johan van Zyl who argued that “a community that intended to empower itself should have access to as many instruments as possible, including its own currency”.

NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes staggering $503 million contract dwarfs salaries of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Patrick Mahomes is reportedly set to become the highest-paid athlete in the world. The quarterback’s new 10-year-contract with Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs is said to be worth up to £402.9m ($503 million).

NFL star Mahomes put pen to paper on the biggest contract in the history of North American team sports, signing a deal reportedly worth up to $503 million, with the agreement set to keep him at the Kansas City Chiefs until 2031.

He will pocket £40.3m-a-year at Kansas from his new contract, which is significantly more than Messi and Ronaldo, who earn £26m and £28m at Barcelona and Juventus respectively.

The new deal for the Super Bowl MVP is twice as long as contracts signed by other superstar quarterbacks, with only Matt Ryan, Jimmy Garoppolo, Matthew Stafford and Derek Carr having deals that go as long as five years.

In a statement, Chiefs Chairman and Chief Executive Clark Hunt acknowledged Mahomes’ talent and personality as the twin motivations behind the record breaking contract extension.

“With his dynamic play and infectious personality, he is one of the most recognized and beloved figures to put on the Chiefs uniform. I’m delighted that he will be a member of the Chiefs for many years to come.”

In a video posted on twitter Mahomes, who led the Chiefs to Super Bowl victory in Miami in February, ending the team’s 50-year title drought, said he was “here to stay”.

“Chiefs Kingdom, you’ve been with me since the beginning. From rookie year to becoming a starter.

“You helped us overcome adversity. To become Super Bowl champs. And we’re staying together … for a long time. We’re chasing a dynasty,” Mahomes wrote.

Steinberg Sports, the agency representing him, also tweeted some details of the deal while congratulating him.

“Congrats to @PatrickMahomes on agreeing to terms on a 10-year extension worth $503 Million.

“He gets $477m (£382m) in guarantee mechanisms and ability to have outs if guarantee mechanisms aren’t exercised. No trade clause. First half billion dollar player in sports history. History made.”

Who is Patrick Mahomes?

The 24-year-old was the youngest player to be named Super Bowl most valuable player (MVP) when he led the Chiefs to their first NFL championship in 50 years in February.

Why the big pay cheque?

Mahomes originally entered the NFL as the 10th overall pick for the Chiefs in the first round of the 2017 NFL. But the 24-year-old has since started 31 games in three NFL seasons with the franchise.

It that time, he’s thrown 9,412 yards – with 76 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in the regular season. Mahomes’ deal surpasses baseball’s Mike Trout as the largest one in sport.

Los Angeles Angels player, Trout signed a 12-year-contract said to be worth up to £339.3 million ($426.5 million) in March 2019.

Cornelius Mweetwa explains why Monze residents booed Lungu

By Julia Malunga,
7th July 2020

UPND deputy spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says Monze residents booed President Edgar Lungu because police officers and PF cadres defaced opposition billboards in that area.

In an interview, Mweetwa, who is also Choma Central UPND member of parliament, said people were simply expressing their displeasure to the Head of State on the police conduct.

“What happened in Monze is that President Lungu’s visit and people behaving like that was a result of irresponsibility on the part of police. Zambia Police, together with the PF cadres, a day before President Lungu’s arrival went on rampage removing all UPND billboards. They defaced portraits that were hanging around in Monze for Hakainde Hichilema. That incensed the people who decided that if they removed the Chitenges and portraits, they were going to show him that they were not happy with him. Why didn’t that happen in Livingstone and Mazabuka? It is because police working with PF cadres did not go to deface any UPND material. That was not a reaction to President Lungu, that was a reaction to police and cadres to show President Lungu to say ‘you cannot allow this’,” Mweetwa said.

“PF regalia is everywhere in Zambia and no one has conducted an act of defacing them or removing them. So why do that in Monze? They were sending a message to the Commander-in Chief to put the police in check because the police are not part of a political arena, they are neutral. People had an obligation to highlight police insensitivity by what they did. They did not say President Lungu should not come to Monze, did anyone throw stones at him? No.”

And Mweetwa vowed that the party would still go and meet people in the ruling party’s perceived strongholds.

“I don’t think it is a question of stronghold, we will be meeting our people there. If PF wants to steer and bring about physical confrontation in their perceived strongholds, they can be, who cares? For what I know is that there is no permanent stronghold. If there was a permanent stronghold, MMD would still have been in power today because Southern Province was number one stronghold for MMD. In 1991, Southern Province gave MMD 100 per cent vote whereas Eastern Province was still voting for UNIP. This is how politics is. So if PF thinks they will be there forever they are daydreaming,” said Mweetwa.

Johnny Depp gave daughter Lily-Rose marijuana when she was just 13

0

Johnny Depp has revealed he gave daughter Lily-Rose marijuana when she was just 13 years old, claiming it was ‘responsible parenting’.

The revelations were made in court on Tuesday, as the actor, 57, and his ex-wife Amber Heard, 34, appeared in Depp’s trial against News Group Newspapers after The Sun branded him a ‘wife beater’ in 2018.

In his testimony, the From Hell star said that he wanted Lily-Rose, now 21 and an actress, to feel ‘safe’ with the drug in her early teenage years.

The actor replied: ‘I got sober off alcohol and remained sober… I can’t remember exactly how long but it was a long while.’

The lawyer referred to an email Depp sent to Sir Elton on March 22 2012 with the subject ‘100 days’.

The email read: ‘My dearest Elton, 100 f****** days of clarity for an old reprobate t**t like me. No one would ever have believed it possible but for a select few, most importantly you.’

Ms Wass said Depp began using the term ‘the monster’ to describe his drunken alter ego, as she revealed how the Rocketman hitmaker helped him go straight.

But Depp said it was ‘a simple fact’ that he ‘would have been swallowed up by the monster’ as he meant he ‘would have been consumed by this poison – the monster here is death’.

The message also referred to his ‘brain and liver resembling Mrs Thatcher’ – referring to the former prime minister – and spoke of the ‘eternal savagery against myself’.

It concluded: ‘I would have been swallowed up by the monster were it not for you.’

Paradis and Depp split in 2012 following a 14-year relationship from which they share daughter Lily Rose, 21, and son Jack, 18.

The former couple, who never wed, have remained firm friends and even spent last Christmas together in Paris with their children.

Depp was also asked about his excessive drinking towards the end of his 14-year relationship with Paradis.

He told the court: ‘I would definitely say that towards the end of my relationship with Ms Paradis, the mother of my children, it was a very painful time – to break up with someone that you have been with for 14 years and that you have two children with.

‘So it was a very painful time and I was more than likely trying to numb myself as much as possible.’

Depp said the family was ‘on the verge of falling apart’ and that Ms Paradis was ‘very, very sad’.

He added: ‘I didn’t like making her sad and I didn’t like making my children sad.’

The Hollywood legend is suing The Sun newspaper and has branded those accusations ‘sick and completely untrue’ at a long-awaited blockbuster libel trial.

During the first day in court, Depp claimed he decided to divorce Heard after she defecated in their marital bed ‘as a prank’ as he denied hitting her and said that she had abused him throughout their marriage.

The actor said Heard or ‘possibly one of her friends’ was responsible for the incident, but claimed she dismissed it as ‘just a harmless prank’.

It came as Depp accused Heard of being a ‘narcissistic sociopath’ as his defence reeled off a list of incidents in which she had allegedly attacked him.

Among Depp’s claims were that Heard severed his finger by throwing a vodka bottle at him during an incident in Australia in 2015.

He also said she became ‘verbally aggressive’ on a private chartered flight in late 2014 or early 2015 before chasing him ‘repeatedly punching me in the face’. As Depp fled into the plane’s toilet Heard punched him again, he told the court.

In contrast, the actress’ lawyers painted Depp as a domestic abuser who repeatedly attacked her when he was drunk or high on drugs.

Depp is suing News Group Newspapers, publishers of the Sun and executive editor Dan Wootton over a 2018 article which referred to him as a ‘wife beater’.

It appeared under the headline ‘Gone Potty How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife-beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?’

But in court testimony filed today, Depp claimed Heard was a calculating, narcissistic sociopath who married him to progress her own career.

The Edward Scissorhands actor said nothing in life has upset him as much as Heard’s ‘words and behaviour’ towards him.

Depp said he first met Heard when she auditioned for The Rum Diary, and later reconnected with her when they were promoting the film.

MONZE FORMULA: Booing A President Has A Value And Must Never Be Ignored

BOOING A PRESIDENT HAS A VALUE AND MUST NEVER BE IGNORED.

George Sichula
NDC Copperbelt provincial Chairman

A man who issues out statements of threats to people is afraid of reasoning, and running away from a problem is not solving it at all. The best way to handle a problem is to first; face it, define it, solve it and graduate, then it will never come back. The first question the PF Government should ask themselves is, why would the people of Monze stand on the road side to boo the Head of State in humiliation? What is really the problem? As they say in medicine,” Accurate diagnosis is half the cure. Sometimes, when you begin to define a problem, you will find that it is actually a “cluster problem.” That is, it is a single large problem surrounded by several smaller problems. Most problems you deal with will be composed of several smaller problems.

The best approach to this type of situation is for the PF Government to determine the main problem and then define the individual parts of the problem separately. The PF Government must identify the core problem that must first be solved and then deal with the smaller problems in order. Sometimes solving one part of the problem leads to the resolution of the entire situation.

One man said,”Where there is no problem, there is no solution and where there is no solution there is no problem.” Issuing out statements of threats to the people is creating another problem. We are sad to notice that the PF Government can not pick up a lesson from the booing of the Head of State. “That booing made the public feel better. Iam sure the booers said to themselves, “At least he had to listen to the fact that we are unhappy.” Booing a President who has fallen out of the peoples’ favor is not a new phenomenon in Zambia. It has always been there. The PF must know that soon and very soon the booing will go like bush fire if they do not meet peoples expectations. Copperbelt has such plans too. The PF Government currently has no stronghold to boast about. I challenge the PF to show us their stronghold where they can gun more than 50% of the votes?

We are not going to allow the PF to create no go areas for the opposition.

We Are Creating A Constitutional Crisis That We Can Already Foresee – Vernon J Mwaanga

WE ARE CREATING A CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS THAT WE CAN ALREADY FORESEE -STATEMENT BY VERNON J MWAANGA

I have been a passionate believer in dialogue all my life. The absence of political dialogue in any country , which claims to practice democracy, is a prescription for political anarchy and instability . The need for dialogue among our political leaders is not only imperative, but
absolutely urgent.

General elections are due to be held in August, 2021 in accordance with our Constitution. We decided some years ago, to save on expenses by holding Presidential, Parliamentary and Local government elections. There are still many outstanding issues which must be resolved, in order to create the atmosphere and internal conditions for the holding of free, fair, democratic and transparent elections which which meet international standards. Zambia subscribes to the various declarations and decisions of the United Nations, the African Union and SADC. These organisations have come up with various protocols, which describe how election campaigns and the entire electoral process should be conducted.

There are genuine concerns about the Bill 10, which requires more consultation among the stakeholders and not just imposed through the tyranny of the majority in Parliament. Consensus building is extremely important in a nascent democracy. National Constitutions are not supposed to be treated as partisan documents. Here are some of the issues which political parties must discuss and hopefully agree on;

1. Voter registration and issuance of National Registration Cards.
2. Presidential, Parliamentary and Local government nomination fees, which are prohibitive as announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
3. The Campaign period and the need to create a level playing field for all those campaigning and contesting elections.

4. How the leadwrship at ECZ is selected and appointed must be in such a manner that they view their role as being to defend democracy and transparency, and not to protect the interests of the ruling Party. They must also see themselves as being accountable to the wishes and aspirations of the people, and not of any government.
5. Equal and fair access to the state media, which is owned by the people of Zambia and not the personal property of whatever political party is in power at any given time. This point is emphasised in the UN, AU and SADC declarations. I admire public broadcasters like the South African Broadcasting Corporation, for their unbiased coverage of all political parties, almost on an equal basis. That is what is required here too.
6. Selective application of the Public Order Act, which nearly always advantages the political party in power. All those political parties taking part in elections must have the right to campaign freely and without hindrance.

7. The Electoral Act, should be amended to include the banning of political hooligans from other districts and Provinces, for purposes of staging attacks on political opponents.
8. The counting of votes and their verification, must be observed by representatives of political parties taking part at each and every point, right up to the announcement or declaration of results. In Nigeria, where i was a co- Chief Election Observer of the National Democratic Institute (NDI ), this is included in the Electoral Act. The net result is that, there are few election petitions, because the whole process is transparent from beginning right up to the end. Electoral transparency is essential for purposes restoring
integrity and much needed trust in the Electoral process.

9. All political parties taking part in elections, must be made to sign an identical declaration committing themselves to non-violence , peaceful campaigns and avoid using inflammatory language against each other during campaigns.

*10. The issue of the Constitutional Court requires an inquisition. It was ill advised to equate the Constitutional Court with the Supreme Court, whose decisions are not appeal able. In many countries around the world, the Supreme Court also sits as a Constitution Court. Where this is not so, the Constitutional Court is equal in terms of jurisdiction to the high Court and its decisions can be appealed to the Supreme Court. I know of no other country that has two Appex Courts – as an Appex Court is the jurisdiction of last legal resort, and so there cannot be two of them. This is tantamount to creating a constitutional disfunctionality that can already be seen and anticipated.*

11. It defies logic for the academic qualifications of Local government councillor to be equated to those of a Presidential candidate.

This list is by no means exhaustive, but captures some of the issues our political leaders need to discuss behind closed doors. It was done during the reign of the MMD and can still be done now. It is sickening to see or hear political leaders talking at each other and not to each other. This is an abomination and does not fit into the new normal of 21st century politics. Dialogue is synonymous with modern politics and is critically important for Zambia’s future , because it increases the chances of peace and reduces tension in our country. Dialogue may not solve our problems, but past experience tells that it has the potential to produce solutions to difficult and seemingly insurmountable problems . political sanity in our country is indispensable.
Young politicians of today, must be made to understand and accept that they are not enemies, but mere opponents involved in a contest for power. The Public offices they occupy are intended for men and women who are passionate about service to the citizens of country and not to themselves, their families and friends.
For God’s sake, let us have political sanity in our country. We need commitment to transform our country through hard work and focused foresight, into a better and more prosperous country for all our people. There must be an even stronger commitment to eliminate the scourge of corruption, which has become a most unwelcome and ugly vice in our country. It does not require a rocket scientist to tell us that working together as responsible citizens, we can achieve much more. No individual Zambian is bigger or more important than Zambia. Zambia is for all Zambians regardless of where they come from.

Just next door to us, Malawi has just gone through an expensive, painful and divisive repeat election which could have so easily been avoided, had it not been for the very obviously partial and unprofessional conduct of its own Electoral Commission. Are we incapable of learning important lessons from our very next door, which occured only yesterday?

Sacked Zimbabwe Health Minister Obadiah Moyo’s Fake Academic Qualifications Exposed

Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sacked health minister Obadiah Moyo with immediate effect for inappropriate conduct.

Moyo was also exposed as an academic fraud who does not have the qualification he claims to possess, according to the United States embassy.

Moyo, who lost to the MDC Alliance after standing on a Zanu PF ticket in Zengeza East on July 30 last year, was named in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Cabinet for the first time in 2018 after having served as RENAL technician for Sally Mugabe.

But ZimLive.com has established that Moyo’s credentials have been questioned in confidential United States diplomatic cables, released by whistle-blower website, WikiLeaks.

In a classified cable from 2008 titled ‘Collapse: Zimbabwe’s Health Care System’, the embassy detailed how the country’s health system had virtually collapsed as Zimbabwe went through its worst economic crisis in history.

Embassy officials spoke to several hospital bosses who painted a picture of total disaster – except one: Obadiah Moyo, the chief executive officer of Chitungwiza General Hospital.

Moyo’s “overly rosy description of his hospital provided a glimpse at the political sensitivities of the health system”, the confidential cable, dated November 20, and classified by Ambassador James McGee, says. The cable noted that an embassy staff member who lives in Chitungwiza “painted a substantially different picture”.

And in a note in brackets, the cable says further checks after the encounter with Moyo “who asked us several times to keep his visit to the embassy secret” revealed that he had lied about his qualifications.

“Moyo’s business card indicates he has both a PhD and a medical degree. After our initial meeting, we learned that he earned neither. Rather, he was Sally Mugabe’s dialysis technician at Parirenyatwa throughout her long struggle with a kidney disease. After Sally’s death, Mr. Moyo suddenly became Dr. Moyo, and in 2004 he became CEO of Chitungwiza Hospital,” the cable concludes.

The Chitungwiza General Hospital website says Moyo is a “registered renal specialist and consultant chemical pathologist” who has won “several international awards in recognition of his contribution to the international society in nephrology and pathology.”

On the Chitungwiza Hospital website, Moyo’s qualifications are listed as:

  • Doctor of Medicine degree (MD)(West Indies),
  • Master of Philosophy degree in Medicine (MPhil Med)(UZ),
  • Postgraduate Award in The Management of Chronic Kidney Disease (PGA,MCKD) (Warwick Uni, UK),
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath)(UK),
  • Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health (FRSPH)(UK),
  • Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB)(UK),
  • Fellow of the International Society in Nephrology (FISN)

The University of Zimbabwe website says the institution offers a 4-year postgraduate course in internal medicine leading to a qualification of Master of Medicine (M.Med). ZimLive.com was unable to find a course for an (M.Phil Med) qualification. Written enquiries sent to the university had not been responded to late Saturday.

If that was a typing error, he would still have required a registration with the MDPCZ to go on the programme.

The International Society in Nephrology says on its website that it is a “philanthropic organisation dedicated to advancing worldwide kidney health”. It is silent on fellowships but provides membership for a fee to health professionals who want to receive e-newsletters, access their membership directory, read journals online and obtain reduced rates to attend their events.

To be a fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, one should have made a “prominent contribution to the advancement of the biological sciences, and gained no less than five years’ experience in a position of senior responsibility”. One must pay £930 for a life fellowship, which comes with a licence to use the FRSB post nominals.

A check on the Royal Society for Public Health website showed that the fellowship touted by Moyo does not relate to any measurable academic or professional contribution. The recipient merely needs to pay £140 per annum to be granted the fellowship. Anyone who has a “career commitment to the improvement of population heath and/or well-being” and has “five years’ experience in a public health related post” can simply pay and acquire the high-sounding post nominals to add to one’s name.

Moyo also runs a pathology laboratory in Harare. He only lists the fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists post nominals “(FRCPath)(UK)” on the laboratory’s paperwork. We asked the college if Moyo is one of their fellows, but had not received a response at the time of posting.

A doctor who spoke to this website said Moyo needed a MDPCZ registration to run the laboratory. “Without it, he’s running an illegal operation,” the doctor said.

There are only 12 registered pathologists in Zimbabwe, according to the MDPCZ website – but Moyo does not feature on the list.

A medical doctor, who spoke to ZimLive.com, said it was highly unusual to have a doctor with such specialist qualifications in such an important field without a private practice.

“It’s either he’s a pathologist extraordinaire or a pathological liar. I will need some convincing that in a country devoid of many sub-specialty professionals, our newly-appointed minister for health could fail to register his qualifications with the MDPCZ,” the doctor said, asking not to be named.

He added: “A consultant chemical pathologist and renal specialist would be sitting in a plush office in the Harare CBD dealing with the many renal patients in need of specialist services.  The man has never even opened GP rooms, as far as I know.”

Moyo’s phone rang unanswered across several hours on Saturday. This article will be amended to reflect his comments on the allegations raised as an when he responds.-Zimlive.com

PF SCARED OF UPND-NDC ALLIANCE…they’re determined to destroy it in 3 ways – Sishuwa Sishuwa

SISHUWA Sishuwa says the UPND-NDC alliance is enough to unseat the PF from government.

Dr Sishuwa, a historian and lecturer at the University of Zambia, questioned the value other political players would bring to the opposition alliance.

“I think a Hichilema-Kambwili ticket will be enough to defeat PF and deliver victory for the opposition. It’s important to be pragmatic in politics. Kambwili brings votes from the Copperbelt and also useful links in the intelligence, crucial to dealing with rigging,” he told The Mast. “In contrast, what value does [Democratic Party leader Harry] Kalaba, Patriots for Economic Progress leader] Sean Tembo, Alliance for Democracy and Development leader Charles] Milupi or [People’s Alliance for Change leader] Andford Banda bring to the coalition? A serious politician in opposition politics who wants to enact positive change once in government first has to win state power. The strategy that they employ to win power may be dictated by the circumstances or context and does not have to be similar to the strategy of governing.”

And Dr Sishuwa said PF were so afraid of the alliance between United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema and his National Democratic Congress counterpart Chishimba Kambwili.

He predicted that the PF would try to weaken the alliance using specific strategies.

“The PF are so afraid of the success of this UPND-NDC alliance that they are determined to destroy it in three main ways. The first strategy is to lure Kambwili back to the PF. This won’t work as long as I don’t think that Kambwili will return to the ruling party as long as Lungu remains President. The second strategy is to convict Kambwili from his ongoing court cases and hope that he can be disqualified,” Dr Sishuwa said. “This won’t work or stop the coalition because according to Article 100 of Zambia’s Constitution, a candidate is only disqualified for nomination as president or running mate if they are serving a prison sentence or have served a jail term of not less than three years in the preceding five years. The implication is that even if Kambwili is convicted by the Lusaka magistrates court, he can appeal to the High Court, and if necessary, the Court of Appeal, and finally the Supreme Court. It’s impossible that these appeal processes will be completed before the 2021 election for him to be serving a prison sentence.”

He said the third strategy could be using a clause in Bill 10 if Parliament passed it, that could disqualify both Hichilema and Kambwili.

“The third strategy is to disqualify Kambwili or even HH himself using Bill 10 which seeks to disqualify any candidate from filling their nomination on grounds of ‘legal disqualification’. In particular, the Bill seeks to amend Article 266 to insert a new term ‘legally disqualified’, defined as ‘a disqualification by a court or quasi-judicial body established by law’,” said Dr Sishuwa. “If passed, this ground could be used to disqualify a citizen seeking nomination for election to any elective public office including President or Vice-President. This provision gives a judge or tribunal the unfettered power to wake up on any day and at any time, such as 02:00 am to bar a prospective presidential candidate on any grounds the presiding judge or tribunal can dream of. This too won’t work if Bill10 collapses, as it must.”

If You Want Respect, Step Down Now Than To Be Forced Through The Ballot – Zambians Warn President Lungu

By Merlyn Mwanza

In what appears to be growing opposition against President Edgar Lungu, some Zambians yesterday descend in total disagreement with the Head of State when he tweeted that his government does not believe in selective development.

Last evening, the people handling President Lungu’s tweeter page at State House wrote: “As I have always said, my government does not believe in selective development. We are driven by a higher ideal, to serve and improve our people’s livelihoods in more tangible ways – without leaving anyone behind,” read the tweet which was accompanied by a photo of herd of goats with people at what looked to be a farm within the country.

Immediately the tweet was posted on President Lungu’s page, Zambians took turns to retweet in response to the President’s communication.

Daniel Mwape retweeted: “Sir, you have done your race. You have done the best you could. Take a break from politics your excellency, pass on the baton. At this point nothing you say or do is soothing due to the massive deterioration of the country under your tenure.”

EK wrote: “Heart breaking, this man was not supposed to be the President to start with. (He has) never been a good lawyer and never will he be a good President. Ati we are driven by what again?***”

Dr CM II PhD retweeted: “You say one thing today, and contradict yourself tomorrow. How do you expect the people to believe anything you say?”

Another Zambian going by the name, ‘The year of the writer’ retweeted: “I hope whoever is running this page gets this message to you. You are Zambia’s President and not a President of the PF. You need to lead all Zambians and condemn any form of hate towards any Zambian. You need to know that Zambia is not for PF.”

Happy Bwalya wrote: “We can’t afford 5 more years of you, no ways! Six years is a lot of time: you don’t deserve anymore time. We are done with you (and) no sugar coating.”

Niva Hankede wrote: “We are not children. You have a higher chance of walking out with respect if you choose to step down now than by the ballot. And unfortunately, you cannot increase Zambian people’s Per Capita Income in just six months. Never. So, its time up, sir. You ran your race.”

Julius retweeted: “If you are a strong man, come and read these comments. People just can’t wait to see you leave that office you have failed. Its time, let others lead. It’s almost exactly one year till election guys, our dreams are going to come true, stay strong.”

Andrew Nswana disagreed with the President and retweeted: “Mr President. I don’t think you are telling the truth, maybe I can say that you missed one area in your development plan. North Western road infrastructure and the general outlook of the district. Seriously, you went to Mwinilunga recently, it is developed?”

Terry Mumba wrote: “You could have done better on the Gold mining. If you had $6m to pump into fish farming, you could have put the same amount in Gold mining and processing plant than giving it away to another African country.”

Mwenya wrote: Wow! You have finally realised that there is God and there are people to be served. Unfortunately, you have been in power for 7 years and you didn’t know such. Anyway, story yalishiwikwa ati iyi ni beans, cowpeas nayena!”

Caleb Nyirenda also added his voice and retweeted: “Clinging to power will cost you a lot. Remember the late Chiluba. The problem is that you are surrounded by hypocrites.”

Kallabby Kalabadia retweeted: “For you to mention that hyst because you went to plead for votes in Southern Province after 7 years of being in office is a tip that you are guilty of selective development and that’s what it has been (the trend) for 7 years now. You are the only president with such madness.”

All the responses to President Lungu’s tweets were negative – something that according to political pundits say speaks volume about the steep declining political support the Head of State was receiving from the Zambian public. While, some on the one hand say, the President still has some window to redeem himself and avoid substantial embarrassment at next year’s election, others on the other hand say, the best President Lungu could do to avoid debilitating political downfall is not to contest next year’s presidential elections.

This is not the first time Zambians have taken to tweeter to express their disappointment with President Lungu’s leadership which, since his ascendance to the highest office of the land in 2015 – had been marred with unprecedented high levels of corruption, inefficiency, lack of transparency and accountability, poor governance system, political intimidation, and high level of unemployment across the country.

Zambians, it has happened in Malawi – Andrew Banda

ANDREW Banda says Zambians should learn something from Malawi elections because levels of poverty in that country are similar to Zambia.

And Andrew says no one should be intimidated because the country belongs to all Zambians.

Featuring on Breeze FM’s political hour programme on Friday night, Andrew, a senior UPND member, said Zambia had high unemployment levels just like Malawi.

“Zambians it has happened in Malawi, the problems in Malawi are not very different from ours. The levels of poverty in Malawi are almost the same levels in Zambia. The levels of unemployment in Malawi are exactly the same here. Everything is the same, the people of Malawi got tired of being led by people who were cheating them, they got annoyed. They were oppressed for a long time no wonder they showed anger, they voted en masse against a government they didn’t want,” he noted. “They protected the vote, not the political party, not Tonse Alliance; you saw how they protected the vote themselves. Zambians it is up to you, I know the conditions are different but learn something from there, liberate yourselves.”

Andrew said there was a lot of hypocrisy in Zambia where district commissioners were engaging in campaigns.

He said it was unconstitutional for DCs to engage in campaigns.

Andrew said Zambians should not be intimidated by anyone because the country belonged to them.

“Don’t be scared, chalo chino (this country) belongs to us, it does not belong to ministers, it does not belong to DCs, it does not belong to police men, it does not belong to permanent secretaries. It belongs to you and me out there. Don’t let anybody intimidate you. You should never be scared to come to the radio station chifukwa ba PF bazakuyofwani, it is your country,” he said.

Andrew said he would stay strong as he had always been in politics.

“I have stayed in politics for 30 years, that’s a long period of time in politics. I have withstood pressure and I will still stay strong. The day my country is going to be liberated from poverty, I will go and rest in peace,” he said.

Andrew said cadreism in Zambia had developed or culminated into terrorism.

He said once UPND forms government there would be nothing like petty generals like America one and the like.

Andrew said the UPND would ensure that young people were trained in entrepreneurship skills so that they established themselves.

He said young people would be able to borrow money at a reasonable interest rate and engage in various activities while others would be employed in the civil service.

Andrew said cadres who engage in various bad activities like those at Intercity Bus Station in Lusaka were ruining the country.

Andrew said Eastern Province was one of the richest regions because it had minerals and was also good in agriculture.

He said despite being a potentially rich province, Eastern was one of the poorest regions because of the non-availability of value addition to agricultural crops.

Andrew said the UPND would invest in production unlike the current situation where money is spent on buying jets and expensive vehicles for ministers.

“We have borrowed money for consumption instead of putting it into production. If we had invested the K20 billion into production this country would have been at another level,” he said.

And Samuel Phiri asked Andrew when he was going to stop depending on his father.

Phiri said UPND was more violent than PF and cited the Mapatizya formula which he claimed the opposition party uses when it comes to violence.

He said if leaders were not going to stop cadres from being violent posterity would judge them harshly.

Phiri, who is also Dilika ward councillor in Chipata Central Constituency, said it was bad that Andrew was accusing PF of being violent when his party was violent.

But Andrew advised Phiri to make his contribution in a sober manner.

He said in the preamble he explained who he was and that he joined politics under the MMD in 1990 on his own.

“Neyamba ndale paneka (I started politics on my own) unfortunately nevyaliwa kwa atata basu a Banda (I was born from our father Mr Banda) don’t hold that against me. I am not using him, I am UPND and I am speaking as a member of UPND. It is not fair even to the old man to discuss him, don’t be emotional. I am a member of the UPND and I am speaking the UPND language, appealing to Zambians to vote for us,” Andrew said.

On violence, Andrew asked Phiri to tell him the people who had guns in Sesheke during the campaigns and what led to the dismissal of police officers in national interest.

He told Phiri that the number of violence activities involving PF cadres were numerous.

Andrew cited the disruption of Wynter Kabimba’s programme on Breeze FM, the attack on an innocent girl who was stripped and almost raped during youth day celebrations in Lusaka and an attack on Hakainde Hichilema at a radio station in Ndola.

He said if Bill 10 does not go through President Lungu would not stand.

Bill 10 stillborn, says chief Mukuni

AS FAR as we are concerned as chiefs in Southern Province, Bill 10 is stillborn and no amount of corrupt machinations will resurrect it from its tomb, says chief Mukuni.

And former livestock and fisheries deputy minister Luxon Kazabu says “all royal highnesses owe the people of Zambia, their children, a debt of service by speaking out on the wrongs that are being committed by the PF government”.

Reacting to princess Joyce Sekute’s statement to President Edgar Lungu in Livingstone last Friday that Southern Province chiefs were in support of the National Assembly Constitution (Amendment) Bill No. 10 of 2019, Mukuni said the princess had no authority to speak on behalf of the traditional leadership in the province because she was not one of them.

“As far as we are concerned as chiefs in Southern Province, Bill 10 is stillborn and buried and no amount of behind-the-scenes corrupt machinations will resurrect it from its tomb. I wish to categorically rebut the assertions reported by several news media, including the national broadcaster ZNBC two days ago, which stated that ‘chieftainess’ Sekute spoke on behalf of Southern Province traditional leaders, on matters pertaining to the moribund Bill 10…” he said. “It is against royal protocols to purport to speak on behalf of reigning chiefs and their subjects when one is not enthroned as a chief and when the chief of the affected chiefdom is alive. To that effect, what was reported that Princess Sekute speaks on behalf of the chiefs in Southern Province that their royal highnesses support the passing of the controversial Bill 10 into law is not only false but lacks merit and facts.”

He revealed that even in the meetings, President Edgar Lungu had with Southern Province chiefs, the issue regarding Bill 10 was never resolved.

Mukuni added that, “In order to set the record straight and clear the names of the chiefs that attended the meeting, I challenge the Princess to name the royal highnesses who chose her to speak on their behalf in support of Bill 10, whose shelf life as a mischievous tool to cure Zambia’s constitutional ills has since expired.”

“The people of Zambia were not consulted on the enactment of this bill whose treacherous agenda is to perpetuate dictatorship and the abuse of public affairs. All citizens must continue to stand firm and alert against the monstrous Bill 10 which has been time barred similar to the UPND presidential petition whose 14-day period elapsed,” said Mukuni. “Let the blind application of the law be fairly implemented on both PF and UPND without discrimination. What is good for the goat must be good for the dog.”

And Kazabu said Princess Sekute was agitating the people of Southern Province by masquerading as a deputy chief when there was no such title under the chiefs Act.

“She is not a chieftainess, she is masquerading to be one; it’s against the law. I have seen and read the chiefs Act and there is no such a thing as deputy chief. Under what law is she presenting herself as deputy chief?” asked Kazabu. “It is unlawful to call oneself as a chief or chieftainess when not. In law they call that impersonating; that is what she is doing.”

PF are the masters of booing and mockery

We are not trying to justify the booing of President Lungu in Monze over the weekend. We believe there are more decent ways of expressing one’s displeasure with others.

But the PF must be the last group of people to be offended by this behavior. Because the PF are the masters of these unsavory actions. The PF have dressed dogs in MMD and UPND regalia. They have called Rupiah Banda ‘nyama soya’, Hakainde Hichilema ‘calculator boy and under 5 politician’ George Kunda ‘red lipped snake’, Anderson Mazoka ‘falling trousers’ and so on and so forth. In fact in the case of Kunda and Mazoka the PF cared none that the two men were struggling with illness.

Look at the amount of mockery and persecution the people of Southern province have endured at the hands of the PF. In fact, at that same event at which President Lungu was officiating in Monze, a senior civil servant was freely ridiculing the people of Southern province right in front of the President. Most likely because he knew the President would enjoy hearing those divisive words. If the PF gives the people of Southern province so much hatred, why do they except love in return?

Its also political opportunism to want to turn the mocking of the President by a handful of Monze residents into a tribal issue. President Lungu was first booed right here in Lusaka in Heroes Stadium, soon after he was first elected in 2015, when power went off in the stadium due to loadshedding. Which tribe was to blame then? The President was also booed in Harare during the inauguration of Emmerson Mnangagwa. Did the people of Zimbabwe boo President Lungu on tribal grounds or because they were unhappy with his alleged overtures in the political process of that country?

What about the PF’s provocation of the UPND, through the police, of defacing and pulling down of UPND paraphernalia in Monze a day before the President’s event? If there is any such law, why then doesn’t the police pull down PF paraphernalia all across the country?

And having said all this, it’s most important to remember that the right to boo is constitutionally guaranteed under the freedom of expression. At least that’s the norm in any truly democratic society.

Chisanda Mutti, The Zambian Boxer Who Recorded The Greatest ‘double Down’ In History

0

By David Zulu

In most of his interviews regarding some of boxing’s greatest moments, former World Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson has often referred to Chisanda Mutti vs Leroy Murphy ‘double down’ as perhaps one of the game’s greatest ‘double falls’ in history. A double down is a simultaneous knock down to the canvass by both pugilists.

This is the fight that almost tipped the gambling tables of Las Vegas, and threatened to reverse the fortunes of the greatest bets of the masters of the business.

Who would want to believe that Chisanda Mutti, a native of Matero, a sprawling township in Lusaka, would threaten history and make an attempt at upsetting a fight that world boxing pundits had predicted 10 – 4, to American Leroy Murphy, the World Cruiserweight Champion, and native of Chicago in the US.

Chisanda ‘Kent Green’ Mutti has his roots from the North Western Province of Zambia, and was discovered from Matero gym in the 70s by Nigerian Boxing promoter and trainer Gibson Nwosu, who settled in Zambia in the sixties.

Nwosu worked through a list of some of Zambia’s greatest boxing legends that included Lotti ‘Ba Jimmy’ Mwale famously known as ‘Gunduzani’, Charm ‘shuffle’ Chiteule who had fast shuffling legs like Muhammad Ali, danced like a butterfly and stung like a bee. Others were Patrick Mambwe, John Sichula, Mike Simwelu and and many more. After identifying these boxers, the Nigerian boxing promotion genius passed them on to British trainer George Francis.

On 19th October 1985, 5 days before the 21st anniversary of Zambia’s Independence from British rule, Chisanda Mutti squared up with the World Cruiserweight Champion, American Leroy Murphy in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The fight started with Murphy agressively attacking with hard body punches in an attempt to lure the Zambian to drop his guard of his chin, the most vulnerable point of any boxer, but Mutti firmly stood his charge, and responded with lighting punches to the World Champion’s face.

This seems to have stunned Leroy who clearly had expected Chisanda to buckle early to Championship superiority, which the former enjoyed. But ironically this appears to have provoked the Matero ‘Kent Green’ as he charged back like a bull. At this moment the American appeared to have changed his overall strategy and view of Mutti. He subsequently allowed Chisanda the honour of attacking, while he tactfully retreated while shielding his head.

Chisanda Mutti welcomed the opportunity and in the process bloodied the Champ’s nose, and at this moment Murphy was clearly giving the Zambian some respect and serious attention.

Up to the 11th round, the judges’ score cards were reporting an even match between the two pugilists as both boxers began to show signs of strain and fatigue, but continued to throw hard punches that would have knocked down concrete pillars.

The 12th round had both boxers’ faces puffed like they had been stung by an angry hive of bees but they charged on, as the Monaco crowd cheered wildly. It was towards the dying moments of the round that both boxers simultaneously threw punches to each other’s chin resulting in the two reeling to the canvass, in a heap of heaving flesh.

The diminutive referee Larry Hazzard immediately reported into double duty, as he furiously pumped both his little hands in the air to excute the double count. As Hazzard reached 8th, Murphy slowly staggered up, and by 9th he was upright but barely standing.

The Zambian ‘Kent Green’ lay motionless to the floor as Larry Hazzard raised the hand of Leroy Murphy. The American won by Technical Knockout aided by a double down which he beat to the count of 9th.

Chisanda Mutti went on to fight Evander Hollyfield who was to become the World Heavyweight Champion. Mutti lost again to the American via a technical knockout in the 5th round.

Leroy Murphy recalls in retirement, “I initially disrespected the Zambian and hoped he would yield early, but I learnt to respect every opponent no matter where they come from, no matter their background. In Chisanda I never met any boxer quite his strength, his determination, his resolve and his courage. I salute my Zambian brother forever”.

The last time this writer met Chisanda ‘Kent Green’ Mutti, was in the mid 90s, near Matero market as he walked towards Matero Police, nibbling on a cob of roasted maize.

He strutted casually seemingly lost in his on world, dressed in a tattered T shirt that hang loosely on his big torso and wearing torn (patapata) slippers, one could clearly see the towering and imposing figure of a Champ, quite like the movie character ‘Mandingo’.This is the man society has set aside in the dustbin of history, but history that still reigns supreme in Monaco and the boxing hall of fame in New York. In Lusaka he is a forgotten hero who only exists in the twilight zone, between fantasy and reality. Chisanda Mutti was a real story of a real champ, a Zambian hero.

Chisanda ‘Kent Green’ Mutti is buried somewhere in Chingwere cemetery most probably in an un marked grave which by now may have become a mere mound.

The only ‘statue’ in his memory I know of is a small ‘Chibuku’ tavern I discovered in Lusaka’s George Township whose whitewashed wall is boldly written, ‘Kent Green’, in green.

I was watching CNN a few months
ago of a funeral of a black Vietnam Veteran who had no family to bury him. When a small Texan town heard the news through social media, the whole Town, black and white, old and young, turned up to bury their hero, a man none of them even knew.

The Air force provided him an Honour Guard and a Fly past. His flag draped coffin was lowered into the grave accompanied by a gun salute and an aerial boom of passing Jets. Society must learn to look after its heroes. This American community from a small Town did just that.

In the image attached, Chisanda is in the right side shown here dominating against Murphy.

May the soul of the Champ rest in peace.

Why Has PF And Edgar Lungu Become Cry Babies After Tasting Their Own Medicine Given To Them By The Happy Youths In Monze?

WHY HAS PF AND EDGAR LUNGU BECOME CRY CRY BABIES AFTER TASTING THEIR OWN MEDICINE GIVEN TO THEM BY THE HAPPY YOUTHS IN MONZE?

By Dr Chisunka

It is so amazing how Edgar lungu and his PF cadres easily play victim to their own circumstances they created and become cry cry babies after tasting their own medicine. Not so long ago, PF cadres went on a rampage in Muchinga and Northern province attacking radio stations where HH was featuring. Some people were injured and property destroyed but no one from the PF leadership came out to condemn what was happening and no one has been arrested.

Surprisingly PF cadres are now crying out loud like a dog burnt by boiling water from a pot he was trying to steal meat from, this after the happy youths in Monze welcomed Edgar lungu by raising the UPND symbol. The youths did not attack anyone but only gave Edgar lungu and his PF the concoction they had made for the opposition especially HH and UPND.

At the time they were attacking the radio stations, no one thought how bad what they were doing was and little did they think that their leader will be given the same medicine to taste one day.

In 2015 during the by-elections, Stephen Kampyongo the former Katondo street money changer now home affairs minister hired PF thugs to bring down a helicopter carrying top UPND officials including former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa. To them it was a sweet victory when the helicopter was almost brought down and failed to land. All these are their own circumstances they had created.

_Why cry out so loud when the youths in Monze did not attack anyone but were only expressing their happiness by raising the symbol they were comfortable with to welcome the President?_

Do not cry when you are given to sleep in the same bed you made with stinking bed linen.

Why make it such a big story when what the happy youths in Monze did was exactly the same the youths in Lusaka did when Edgar lungu’s motorcade was passing at ridgeway? Is it because the other incident happened in Southern province? What is happening is simply the wind of change blowing all over the country.

Edgar Lungu has simply become like a masquerade (Ichinyau) children and young people would love to jeer at when they see him pass. Nothing will stop the wind of change which is blowing. He should learn that things will just get worse going forward.

Another PF disgraced official in Lusaka named Forbes Mufwaya has warned that UPND President Hakainde Hichilema is not wanted by the people of Lusaka province.

The PF leader says HH will not be allowed to move in Lusaka.

And PF officials in Lusaka are sharing pictures of dogs dressed in UPND regalia sending a message that HH and all UPND supporters are dogs.

The PF is on the other hand crying that their 2021 losing candidate Edgar Lungu is being booed in Lusaka and Monze as was the case on youth day and recent visit.

Below is a statement sent to Koswe by Mufwaya but written for him by Sunday Chanda…

LUSAKA DISTRICT PATRIOTIC FRONT CONDEMNS POLITICAL INTOLERANCE BY UPND CADRES IN MONZE, DEMANDS FOR IMMEDIATE APOLOGY

As PF Lusaka district we condemn in the strongest terms, the unruly behavior exhibited by the UPND supporters and their leaders in Monze during the president’s tour of duty.

That behavior was nonsensical and unacceptable to say the least. It must be noted that the office of the President requires and demands utmost respect by all.

It must be further noted that this country has but ONE Republican President in the name of His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu who should be respected by all regardless of political affiliation.

The visit to Monze by his Excellency President Lungu shows that he is interested in seeing development spread to all parts of the country including areas where he might not be liked.

It is time the UPND leadership and its member’s realized and acknowledged the leadership of his Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu and his right to traverse any part of the country to monitor developmental projects and interact with his people.

President Lungu has proved it before and now that he is all embracing, and therefore it is very disappointing and shameful to see such resentment and disrespect exhibited by those UPND thugs who we are aware were deliberately planted by their leaders to publicly embarrass and show animosity towards the head of state.

As Lusaka district we hereby send a stern warning to all those thugs in the opposition who think they will continue perpetrating such behavior with impunity to stop forthwith.

We will not sit back and watch the Republican President who is also the great Patriotic Front leader be disrespected in such a manner.

We therefore demand for an immediate apology from the UPND leadership over what transpired in Monze on Saturday, failure to which we shall retaliate.

Issued by:

Lusaka District Chairman

Forbes Mufwaya.

Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba : WHY ARE THE JOBS ELUSIVE?

WHY ARE THE JOBS ELUSIVE?

Let us discuss the case of jobs and wealth creation

By Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba

So before we blame slavery, colonialism and neo-colonialism, let us look at what we have done the last 55 years.

At Independence, our economy was thriving, with huge foreign reserves and had one of the strongest currencies in the world.

But by 1990, our economy had collapsed, become debt ladden and our people demanded for political change and wanted jobs.

Yet, ten years later, in 2001, people still demanded for political change and wanted jobs.

Again in 2011, people demanded for change and wanted jobs.

Probably the political discourse as we head towards 2021could be similar; change and jobs!

JOBS, WHY CAN’T THE ECONOMY PROVIDE JOBS?

The outcry has been the same the last 30 years. What and who is to blame?

The discourse about political change and jobs has been consistent since 1991.

It blames the lack of jobs, on leadership failure, corruption, waste of public resources and economic mismanagement.

But in my view the critical shortage of jobs has something to do with the fundamental Structure of our economy and the state of our Education System.

So let’s have an honest conversation.

It is clear that jobs cannot be provided in the numbers as demanded by our people in 1991, 2001, 2011 and even now!

OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM

Our Education system was designed by our colonial masters to give language and numerical skills, and provide certain types of workers for the jobs that existed in the various sectors of the economy.

You have heard of stories from your uncles who boast that at the completion of their University or College education, companies were lined up outside their graduation ceremonies begging them to join the firms.

Sectors like Mining went to great extent to create student scholarships, and support faculty schools at Universities at home and abroad.

These students were expected to join the mining firms upon the completion of their education.

But despite the fundamental changes that have occurred to the economy, the education system has stagnated, and has not responded or adapted to the new structure of our economy.

Our education system churns out graduates, equipped with skills and training for jobs that no longer exist in the economy!

Just check the last graduation ceremony you attended and check what training the graduates obtained and relate to the job market.

Our economy is now highly informal.

Infact the number of workers in the formal sector has barely changed in the last 50 years when our population was 3million but now stands at 18.2million people.

Yet our graduates from Universities, Colleges and other institutions are well trained that they can work any where else in the world except in Zambia.

This is because the training and skills acquired cannot be matched with the jobs or lack of jobs available on the market.

Little attention has been paid to innovation, entrepreneurship and a robust technical and vocational education, sub-sectors that could create employers, who can employ themselves and others.

Further, sectors such as agriculture, that have potential to create millions of seasonal jobs have proven unattractive to young people, who are the most affected by the current unemployment status.

This is because, they are waiting for the quality jobs that they have been trained in and skilled for.

STRUCTURE OF OUR ECONOMY

The introduction of the free-market and liberalized economic model at the behest of the International Monetary Fund(IMF) in 1991, only helped to de-industrialise the economy, shut manufacturing and industrial sectors in preference for cheap imports that has helped grow the trading sector.

By 1991, Zambia had over 370 state-owned enterprises providing hundreds of thousands of jobs, goods and services to the economy.

The IMF said the companies were loss-making and inefficient!

They persuaded government that it could save money spent on subsidising such companies keeping them afloat, to develop other important sectors such as Health and Education.

So the bulk of these companies were shut, liquidated, sold or cheaply disposed-off in the most ambitious IMF-supervised privatization programme in Africa.

And our borders were opened widely for replacement goods to freely enter the market.

This model is an experiment that failed with disastrous consequences.

The formal sector nearly died, poverty levels dropped from an average of 60% to 84%.

Other than a few privatised companies that have remained succesful like Zambia Sugar, Chilanga Cement, Zambia Breweries, ZANACO, and Copperbelt Energy Company, most companies closed leaving former workers stranded and on the streets, and denying future opportunities for new jobs for the new generation.

Further government placed the most valuable natural resources, the mines, in the hands of foreign entities and foreign benefits, for exploitation.

Without deriving higher rent from natural resources, which is the proven best source of domestic revenue for a country, the scenario creates a cycle of poverty and the resources benefit and makes millions of dollars for the few new owners.

It has since taken almost 30 years to climb back to national average poverty levels of 54%.

Take for example the case of the USA and China.

While it took about 200 years for the USA to become the number one economy in the world, it has taken China a mere 40 years to lift about 500million people out of poverty, industrialize its economy and make China a global manufacturing hub of goods and services.

Although considered a developing nation, China is now the second largest economy in the world.

This was done at the back of state-owned enterprises with controlled cooperation with foreign owned entities helping with foreign direct investments and technology transfer to its economy.

China ensured that the largest benefit for this state capitalism was to the country and it’s people, and not to private entities or persons.

So while the liberal economy and free-market model also adopted by Zambia, promotes impressive economic growth and creates wealth, it leaves so many behind and promotes high income inequality.

It also emasculates trade unions and renders them ineffective, leaving workers without permanent or long-term jobs.

There is now a general realization that the free-market economic model is disastrous as it promotes economic growth that creates such outstanding income inequality that a few people will have more money than the entire population.(Read; ‘The Great Leveler, The History of Inequality from Stone Age to the 21st Century’-By Walter Scheidel, and ‘Capital in the 21st Century’ by Thomas Pickety).

CONCLUSION

Both the seduction and fear of voters has made subsequent governments implement short-term programmes made to pacify or lure the voters than programs designed to resolve the fundamental problems facing the country.

We have created a system that makes governments pre-occupied with electoral cycles than implementing long-term economic programs.

This has also created predatory offshoots such as high incidences of corruption, theft and fraud of state funds since 1991,to support and guarantee a place for participants in the system.

But it’s time to face the monster!

Let us decolonise our education system.

The current education system creates and promotes people for white-collar jobs that no longer exist in the market and is not prolater to the huge numbers of graduates churned out annually.

This makes our people speak good english but without jobs.

We need to change this education system that downgrades the importance of blue-collar, real and other jobs that exist or can be created in the market.

We need to foster a system that promotes innovation, entrepreneurship, transformative technical and vocational education.

Let’s also take back our natural resources in a model that delivers the most benefit to our people and chart the destiny of our country.

And let us design our own economic model that is suitable for our environment, that responds to the needs of our people and our country, and let us abandon these foreign but failed economic prescriptions that have made us worse, each passing generation.

Other than the program to do an aggressive re-industrialization program, let us make small businesses as the centre and focus of government policy, provide fund support, and nurturing as this is the biggest sector that will drive our economy and be a reliable future employer.

Monze Fracas Was An Eye Opener To Selective Application Of Certain Laws

Mastone Moonze writes
MONZE FRACAS WAS AN EYE OPENER TO SELECTIVE APPLICATION OF CERTAIN LAWS.

…….Are you sure it’s only UPND posters and billboards that are still illegally flying after the 2016 general election.

…….Why didn’t it happen in Livingstone or Mazabuka but it only happened in Monze district.

I have read a number of statements questioning the behaviour of the Monze residents who chanted UPND slogans against the President motorcade on Saturday.

What is surprising is the lack of depth to understand why that fracas occurred only in Monze but President Lungu visited three districts who are UPND strongholds.

For me ,I am not surprised because I was in the area two days before the Presidential visit.

If you were in Monze on Thursday and Friday night ,you will agree with me that there was less freedom of movement after sunset due to heavy police presence ahead of the Presidential visit.

The police rounded the area as if there were criminals they were looking for in residential areas ,residents were surprised with this kind of guarding.

Some citizens did not know that the police were doing that because the head of state was coming the following day, what they speculated was that the police are looking for some criminals who raped and killed a woman in Monze two weeks ago.

The police and Residents fight was triggered by the removal of the Chitenge material ,Posters and bilboards potray the opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.

The residents asked the police why should posters be removed in Monze when in other PF strongholds billboards, chitenge and posters are still there.

Also where were the police since 2016 ,only to come and remove posters four years after the elections.

Answers to these questions were not given ,that’s where now you heard some compounds burning tyres calling for fair application of the law.

It’s at this point UPND leadership and Bishop Hamungole managed to engage the police not to escalate the situation, later in the day we saw the new Chitenge for the UPND material flying in trees and stands especially the route leading where the President was visiting the following.

At this hour the Police stopped retaliating to residents uproar to allow the situation normalize.

And the police should be commended for accepting the defeat at this hour because the fracas should have recorded a death or many.

Out of excitement the residents were ready for any thing.

ANALYSIS
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The Zambia Police are to blame for triggering the uproar from the residents because of the way they conducted themselves prior to the Presidential visit.

We all know that its not only UPND posters that are illegally flying on the streets of this country,it is undeniable fact that the PF posters and Chitenge are flying in many parts of Lusaka and other strongholds.

Why can’t the removal of these campaign posters be done at once across the country.

The police should not tell us that they are not aware of the fact posters for both UPND and PF are allover the streets these two political parties command.

The residents of Monze were remind.ing the police to fairly apply this law of removing campaign posters after the general election.

We are not saying ,the Monze residents were right to protest against the removal if the UPND posters but what we are emphasizing here is that the protest reminded our Police that removing of posters does not only apply to opposition but every political party in the country.

Thank you
God Bless mother Zambia

Esau Chulu Is A Shameless Crook Behind Our Sufferings As Youths – Sikaile Sikaile

ESAU CHULU IS A SHAMELESS CROOK BEHIND OUR SUFFERINGS AS YOUTHS
We don’t want to mobilize ourselves as youths and drag you out of that office Chulu.
Can you go please before 2021.

With no regret, I want to remind electoral commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson Esau Chulu that he is a shameless crook and dishonest human being who is behind our suffering today. Had it been not for his selfishness, which imposed a corrupt bunch of thieves on us in 2016, Zambia wouldn’t have been in this critical state.

I know many Zambians have ignored the criminal activities Esau Chulu involved himself in 2016 manipulating the elections, but for me, I will never forget about it and I will continue reminding him that he is a thief who doesn’t deserve to be presiding over the electoral commission of Zambia after that fraudulent general elections in 2016.

In 2015 and 2016, Priscilla Isaac and others facilitated the imposing of Edgar Lungu as president of Zambia and I reminded Isaac Priscila that she did not deserve to lead ECZ and thank God she left after being paid for rigging the elections twice. Even though Isaac ran away after 2016 general elections, I look forward to a day when she will be prosecuted for failing the people of Zambia whilst occupying a public office.

Today, I’m here for Chulu, if this man had morals, by now he would have left the electoral commission of Zambia so that people with the capacity run the institution. But he is behaving as though he did a great job for the country when in fact not.

It is this culture of doing wrong things, and people in public offices are not told the truth that we need to remove them. Zambians we should not allow Chulu to walk away with those criminal charges against him.

People who are abusing public institutions like Esau Chulu and Edgar Lungu who thinks what they are doing is fine because we don’t tell them off.

I’m challenging Esau Chulu to go to court if he is not a criminal who facilitated in the rigging of the 2016 general elections and I will face him without fear. To validate the evidence I have I don’t even need a lawyer to prove that Chulu rigged the elections.
My warnings to him is that let him resign before 2021 general elections so that someone who is credible can run the elections. He is a big threat to our security.

Esau Chulu deliberately refused to have Lusaka province and other areas PF manipulated results to be verified because he knew very well that verification of these results was going to disadvantage Edgar Lungu and the entire PF.

For example, in lundazi Central you all know the fake figures the shameless Chulu announced. That was just an iceberg of what PF and Chulu had done to our votes and these same crooks want to continue manipulating results even in 2021.

This is the same Chulu who announced a ghost constituency Chitulika, and up to date those results have not been corrected, isn’t this criminal? Isn’t it stealing? Whether he likes or not, his actions are criminal and he needs to be held responsible one day for messing up the country.

We have seen the barbaric and unprecedented behaviour of crooks Esau Chulu imposed on us.

They have stolen our tax payers money, they have destroyed public institutions, they have incited tribalism and political violence, they have promoted dictatorship and continued undermining the constitution of Zambia by trying to change it overnight through the draconian bill 10 meant to install one party state rule.

As citizens, we should always trace the cause of these problems we face today and there is no other than the incompetent Esau Chulu who imposed Lungu to rule this country against the will of the citizens.

Esau Chulu you must resign, you dont deserve to manage our elections next year.
And to Edgar Lungu, Davies Chama, Kampyongo and Kakoma Kanganja who wants to use security wings to scare us youths, may I remind you that we are not going to get scared of you at all.

We are more than ready to face you in any form or direction you shall come. If you come as wizards! We too shall respond accordingly, if you come as arrogant! we shall surely show you together with your thugs that we are also equal to the task to put to stop these injustices.

Mr Lungu, the youths your brutal government has killed are enough.
Fellow youths this is the time we should clearly state our position going forward. As long as we fear to be killed by this evil government, they can choose to ignore us.
If we keep talking about innocent blood being spilt, they will spot this as a weakness in us and continue abusing this nation. They will use fear to contain us all and subsequently destroy our future.

I’m daring Edgar Lungu and his PF government to behave and manage the 2021 general elections properly and if nothing is done, we as youths will come in the streets so that the police has to kill all of us. After all, without opportunities, current looting and corruption we the youths in Zambia are as good as dead.

DAVIES CHAMA IS COMMITTING TREASONABLE OFFENCE, says Siwale

By Agness Changala-Katongo

New Labour Party leader Fresher Siwale says Defence minister Davies Chama should be ready to go to jail for the treasonable statement he made.

And Siwale says PF should be ready to step aside and allow Zambians to progress without them, for they have destroyed the country enough.

Commenting on Chama’s statement that no person can be irresponsible to challenge President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility, as they will fail to control what will happen because the filling of nominations is highly volatile and charged, Siwale said Chama was being irresponsible in that he was holding a very sensitive ministry of defence – urging him should be able to speak as defence minister.

He charged that Chama was just a small boy who had found himself in a ‘glory land of corruption’ to start thinking that he owned Zambia.

“I feel sorry for Davies Chama. He does not own this country. He is just a small boy who has found himself in (a) glory land of corruption,” Siwale said. “He is being irresponsible in that he is holding a very sensitive ministry of defence and he should be able to speak as defence minister. The fact that he has issued that statement, it borders on treason and he must be ready to go to jail for that statement because what will happen in this country, PF will not have control over.”

Siwale said if Chama insisted on his statement, the Zambian people would put him in his place together with President Edgar Lungu.

He said this time around, no amount of arms, teargas, threats or violence would cow Zambians into submission.

“No amount of arms, teargas; no amount of threats, violence will cow Zambians into submission this time around. They must be ready to step aside and allow Zambians to progress without them. They have destroyed this country enough,” he said.

And Siwale said Lusaka lawyer John Sangwa State Counsel had not committed any crime by intimating that he would file a petition on the legibility of President Lungu in the next election.

He said Sangwa had spoken his mind and read the law as it stands now.

“First and foremost, Counsel John Sangwa, State Counsel has only intimated to that fact that he is ready to file a petition on the eligibility of Lungu in the next election. He has not committed any offence. He has spoken his mind,” Siwale said.

He added that he was ready to join hands with Sangwa in filling the petition against President Lungu’s eligibility should the Electoral Commission of Zambia allow him to file in his nomination papers in next year’s general elections.

Siwale further wondered if the 2021 elections would be held under the 1996 Constitutional Amendment or the 2016 Constitutional Amendment saying, he sees a Constitutional crisis which he had always warned about.

Hichilema – Kambwili combo enough to defeat PF – Sishuwa

UNIVERSITY of Zambia lecturer Dr Sishuwa Sishuwa says a “Hichilema-Kambwili” combination on the ballot paper will be enough to defeat the ruling Patriotic Front and deliver victory for the opposition next year, provided Bill 10 fails.

In an interview, Saturday, Dr Sishuwa observed that PF was afraid of the success of the UPND-NDC alliance and that they were determined to destroy it.

“I think a [Hakainde] Hichilema – [Chishimba] Kambwili ticket will be enough to defeat PF and deliver victory for the opposition if Bill 10 collapses. Hichilema may still win on his own, but needs a broader coalition to effectively deal with the possible rigging. Kambwili brings support from the Copperbelt and also useful networks in the government, crucial to effectively dealing with rigging. In contrast, politicians like Harry Kalaba, Sean Tembo, Charles Milupi or Andyford Banda bring comparatively less political value to the coalition.

“It is important to be pragmatic in politics. A serious politician in opposition politics who wants to enact positive change once in government first has to win state power. The strategy that they employ to win power may be dictated by the circumstances or context and does not have to be similar to the strategy of governing. The PF are so afraid of the prospects of a Hichilema-Kambwili presidential ticket that they are determined to undermine its creation through a threefold strategy,” he said.

Dr Sishuwa noted that the ruling party was trying to lure Kambwili back to PF or have him convicted.

“The PF’s first strategy is to lure Kambwili back to the ruling party. This is unlikely to work: l don’t see Kambwili returning to the PF fold as long as Lungu remains President. The second strategy rests on the expectation that the courts will convict Kambwili on one of his ongoing cases and have him disqualified from running for election. This, too, won’t work because Article 100 of Zambia’s constitution only disqualifies a citizen from being nominated for election as president or running mate if they are serving a prison sentence or have served a jail term of not less than 3 years in the preceding 5 years. The implication here is that even if Kambwili is convicted by the Magistrate’s Court, he can appeal to the High Court and if necessary to the Court of Appeal, and finally to the Supreme Court. It is close to impossible that these appeal processes will be exhausted before the August 2021 election for him to be serving a prison sentence,” Dr Sishuwa argued.

“The other strategy the PF could use to undermine the UPND-NDC alliance is to bar Kambwili or Hichilema himself using Bill 10. In particular, Bill 10 seeks to amend Article 266 of Zambia’s constitution to insert a new term, “legally disqualified”, defined as “a disqualification by a court or quasi-judicial body established by law”. If Bill 10 is passed and enacted into law, this provision could be used to disqualify a citizen seeking nomination for election to ANY elective public office including President or Vice President. The provision gives a judge or tribunal the unfettered power to bar a prospective candidate to elective public office on ANY ground that the presiding judge or tribunal can dream of. This, too, won’t work is Bill 10 collapses, as it must,” stated Dr Sishuwa.

Asked if some of Kambwili’s actions when he served in government would work against the alliance, Dr Sishuwa said that assessing a minister’s performance was a subjective matter.

“In the absence of measurable standards to assess the performance of ministers, it is difficult to provide a fair analysis of Kambwili’s record in government, when he worked as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Labour, Minister of Youth and Sports and Minister of Information. It is much easier and perhaps more helpful to assess his record as Roan MP, since voters consistently returned him to Parliament, and supported his NDC”.

Chakwera, the Malawian Martin Luther King Jr: Fuels Malawians into action

President Lazarus Chakwera on Monday delivered a speech that has inspired the country with the same zeal of American revolutionary Martin Luther King Jnr.

Speaking during his inauguration as Malawi’s 6th president, Chakwera touched the audience in the course of his delivery. His speech moved the audience from one historic period to another while providing clarifications on promises made by the Tonse Alliance.

“Two score and sixteen years ago, our nation was born. It was a birth that I myself bore witness to, for not only was I a young boy of nine on that day; I was also one of only 4 million people to have gone to bed a Nyasa the night before and rise the next morning a Malawian.

“Of that generation, only half of us remain, and with each passing year, our numbers fall as we continue to pass the baton of turning our land into a great nation to the next generation,” said Chakwera in his opening remarks.

The president also spoke highly of a collective effort by different parties leading to his victory. He argued that it is such effort that have taken him this far.

“If it were not for Dr. Chilima and the other party presidents of the Tonse Alliance forfeiting their political aspirations to forge an unbeatable partnership at the polls, none of us would be here.

“If it were not for thousands of knees scraping floors across this country in night long prayers that gave heaven no rest until God’s kingdom came, none of us would be here.”

Chakwera concluded the speech by urging Malawians to work hard if the country is to undergo a desirable transformation.

“I will challenge all of you as citizens to work hard, work hard, work hard, work hard, and work hard.

“The time of giving free handouts and rewarding noise makers and handclappers who are too lazy to work is past. We have a country to build and not a moment to waste. So, let’s all get to work.”

Meanwhile commentators are clapping for Malawi’s 6th leader for a powerful speech. Others have rated it as the best to have been made by Malawi’s president.

Social Commentator and writer Onjezani Kenani argues that the speech is Chakwera’s best ever speech. A thousand other Malawians concur with him.

South PF Happy With Chiefs’ Call For President Lungu To Rule Beyond 2021

Patriotic Front Southern Province information and publicity secretary Trymore Mwenda has said the ruling party welcomes the call by traditional leaders in the province that President Edgar Lungu recontests the 2021 elections to rule until 2026.

Mr Mwenda said in a statement that President Lungu must be given a new mandate to complete the development project currently being undertaken.

“The ruling PF in Southern Province is happy to note that what the party in the province has for a long time been calling for that His Excellency President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu must be given a new mandate to run this country beyond 2021 to complete his development drive has finally received the endorsement of our traditional leaders in the region. The Southern Province traditional leaders’ statement which was readout by her royal Highness Chieftainess Sekute of Livingstone when they met President Lungu on Friday that he should be given more time beyond 2021 for him to complete the various developmental projects across the country, sums up the position of most traditional leaders not only in Southern province but across the country who have seen the transformation that the country has undergone under President Lungu’s leadership,” Mr Mwenda said.

He said giving President Lungu a fresh mandate beyond 2021 will be a true demonstration of gratitude for his government’s transformation of the country.

“And like Chieftainess Sekute puts it, Southern Province is one of the areas which has benefited from the infrastructure agenda that President Lungu is implementing across the country. As a party in Southern Province we thank our traditional leaders most sincerely for coming out in the open to acknowledge that truly Southern Province has been transformed, because when we speak as a party of the many things PF has done in just nine years, our critics the opposition who do not appreciate anything even though they are benefiting from the development taking place across the country, accuse us of just politicking,” Mr Mwenda said.

“We therefore wonder whether our traditional leaders are also just politicking by speaking on the unprecedented development or they are being genuine partners in development who want to see an improvement in the lives of their subjects and so we wish to challenge the opposition to cast those aspersions on our traditional leaders. Least the opposition forgets President Lungu was in Southern province to unveil more development which he is taking and has taken to Southern Province.”

He said the party is overwhelmed with the cordial and mutual engagements which took place between President Chagwa Lungu on one hand and traditional leaders and the people of Southern Province in general on the other during his just ended two-day working visit to the Province.

“We can state without any sense of reservation that His Excellency the President has continued to win the hearts of many Zambians because of his down to earth leadership and willingness to receive wise counsel from their royal highnesses and many ordinary citizens.
We cannot wait for next year’s election campaign period when we will be telling our people of the many achievements scored under President Lungu’s leadership across the 14 districts of Southern province and why he needs to be given another five year mandate to finish off his development agenda for the area,” Mr Mwenda stated.

HH’s Lust for Power at all Costs is Now a Disgrace to Ba Tonga – Bizwell Mutaale

Patriotic Front national mobilization committee member Bizwell Mutaale has said UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s lust for power at all costs is now a disgrace to the Tongas.

Mr Mutaale, in a statement issued following the UPND cadres’ attempts to stone the presidential motorcade in Monze on Saturday, said the violence exhibited by the cadres was sanctioned by Mr Hichilema and Monze member of parliament Jack Mwiimbu.

“HH’s lust for power at all costs is now a disgrace to Ba Tonga. He does not represent the nationalism of our forefathers such as Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula, Mainza Chona and Elijah Haatuakali Mudenda to name a few. The UPND leader and his party’s morally deficient character does not represent the spirit of Nationalism. HH and Mwiimbu want to make it look as if all Southerners are UPND when in fact not. The truth is that UPND in Southern Province victimise and brutalise any southerner that is not UPND. It is even much worse how they mistreat non-Southerners affiliated to other political parties in the Province. It is shameful,” Mr Mutaale said.

He said Mr Hichilema is not the messiah of Southern Province or anyone else as he claims.

“He is in fact a liability to Southern Province. Under his instructions, UPND Members of Parliament and councillors are shunning progressive engagements with key government officials including the Head of State, and frustrating government development efforts in Southern Province,” Mr Mutaale said.

He said the UPND has started inciting ethnic chaos by provoking the Presidential convoy.

“The reckless talk and provocative behaviour by Hon Jack Mwiimbu resulting in UPND cadres attempting to stone and embarrass the Head of State Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu on his recent visit to Monze District was very irresponsible, shameful and extremely disgusting. As a proud Tonga from Monze, I am with many other tribemates from Southern Province who are extremely disappointed by Hakainde Hichilema, Mwiimbu and UPND thuggery as it goes against the traditional values of Ba Tonga people who practise a culture of respect for elders and authority,” Mr Mutaale said.

“We shudder to think what would have happened had one from the hired mobs thrown a stone at the Presidential motorcade (like they did at BP filling Station in Monze last year).”

He said the UPND has a dangerous pattern of attempting to disrupt Presidential convoys.

“Zambians must be reminded that this is not happening for the first time. It is clear that the UPND leadership under HH have a very deliberate strategy calculated at inciting anarchy and igniting confusion by provoking the Presidential convoy and State Security whenever the Head of State goes on developmental tours in perceived UPND strongholds,” Mr Mutaale said. “It is the same thing that HH did in Mongu where he attempted to compete with the Presidential convoy and it is also the same thing he repeated in Kaoma and then Sesheke when he turned a blind eye to his cadres who put big rocks and boulders to block the road the Presidential convoy was using, thereby endangering the life of the Head of State and putting the entire nation at great risk in the process. The malicious irresponsibility of Hichilema, Mwiimbu and UPND is capable of plunging the whole nation into chaos. It must be condemned in the strongest terms.”

Understanding KBF’s Political Stance And The Need To Wait For His Signal

UNDERSTANDING KBF’S POLITICAL STANCE AND THE NEED TO WAIT FOR HIS SIGNAL

Good evening esteemed country men and women. Firstly I would like to point out that I write this only as a KBF supporter who has had the privilege to work with and understand the way our vision carrier KBF operates.

My fellow country men and women, I understand with grave concern the frustrations that our nation Zambia is going through because of the saddening current state of affairs. I also understand that with that comes a lot of discontent from different sections of both KBF supporters and non KBF supporters alike, regarding his political stance/direction as we head closer to the 2021 general elections.

I understand the feeling of loss of direction from my fellow KBF supporters, this feeling is not because we have lost hope in our vision, this is so because now more than ever Team KBF supporters and the Zambian people at larg want change, change not only in the political direction of the nation but mostly change in the developmental, social and economical direction of this blessed nation.

Country men and women, our vision carrier hears our cry, but we need to understand that we can only attain the change that this nation so richly deserves once our politicians treat politics with the dignity and respect that politics deserve. Politicians need to stop treating politics as a simple too of enrichment for themselves and their families, politicians must stop treating governance as a tool to gain and abuse power. Comrades, a political calling is a noble calling with the sole mandate of saving the people and the nation.

It is for this reason that I would like to encourage and assure my fellow KBF supporters and the nation at large that we have not lost track nor have we lost direction of our vision in our pursuit to transform the social, developmental and economical out look of mother Zambia. At the same time I would like us as team KBF to do things differently, to do things without the hastiness that usually characterises most frustrated politicians in Zambian politics. Now I know that some will argue that we don’t have time on our side with 2021 in sight, but I dare say that time is always on the side of a carefully and properly executed plan.

Country men and women this team, our team has an opportunity to do things the right way, an opportunity to show the nation that not all politicians are the same. We have no option but to lead exemplary, we have to be the flag bearers in upholding and promoting politics based on values and morals.

My dear country men and women, May I remind you that our vision carrier (KBF) has on several occasions refuse to be involved in politics if the core beneficiaries of his agenda are not the marginalized Zambian people living in poverty. He has stated before that an individual should never aspire for a political position with only absolute power in mind.

As his supporters we need to trust KBF as a principled politician but also a very strategic politician who has set his political path with the plight of the Zambian people at heart.

My personal experience with Mr Kelvin Fube Bwalya has opened my eyes to the fact that good politicians do not make decisions for themselves but for their supported as well. If for example our president KBF was to form an alliance with HH for the mare fact that he wants to be in the corridors power next year, what then would happen to some of us his supporters who are not in line with HH and his policies or vision.
With this in mind I would to urge my fellow KBF supporters trust in our leader and trust that he will not at any point drift towards a political direction that disenfranchises his supporters and the plight of the Zambian people.

At this point I would like to call upon all members of team KBF and remind you that we have come a long way on this journey, together we have lost some very loyal and hard working soldiers and friends; and at the same time we have gained some more hard working and loyal soldiers and friends.

Let us remind ourselves that we have not come all this way and fought all this fight for nothing, comrades the dream of a high income, high employment, lowly taxed, infrastructural developed, corrupt free, low to no poverty, politically, socially and economically emancipated Zambia does not belong to KBF or team KBF alone, it belongs to the people of Zambia, it is therefore imperative that we do not fail them and their trust in us.

Country men and women, KBF is running for President of the Republic of Zambia in 2021. Let us simply wait for the signal.

May God bless you and may bless our beloved nation Zambia.

PF IS DEAD, ROTTEN – Cornelius Mweetwa

CHOMA Central UPND member of parliament Cornelius Mweetwa says the Zambian economy cannot be fixed in a year.

He also says that the whole institution called PF is dead and rotten to the bone.

Mweetwa further says there are so many Zambians who will petition or file an injunction against President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility to contest the 2021 presidential election if he went ahead.

“We think we are not going to run out of people, in the event that there are no people willing to take a court action on President Lungu if at all he files in nomination. UPND stands ready, and the only reason that UPND is going to do that is to ensure that we respect our Republican Constitution. I can disclose a deep secret here, and I hope no one is going to censure me in the party leadership, because this a secret we have held so close to ourselves. As UPND, the candidate we would be very much happy to face in 2021 is President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, because he has already de-campaigned himself sufficient enough to make our work easier. But I have disclosed this secret knowing very well that even if PF changed and put another candidate, the whole institution called PF is dead and rotten to the bone because of many issues,” said Mweetwa. “It is like trying to change a driver on a journey on a vehicle with a very defective engine. Patriotic Front as a party is a defective engine to continue to be a vehicle to deliver the people of Zambia to the promised land where we are going to bring about the restoration of the rule of law, good governance and begin a long walk into the economic recovery of our country. Make no mistake, the damage that the PF has done to the Zambian economy is so colossal to be fixed in one day, in one month, in one year. Beginning to talk of 90 days like PF had cheated the people of Zambia will be an attempt to cheat the people of Zambia once more. The task ahead of us is too enormous and we believe that is the reason why we need a steady leadership to steer this vehicle into the direction of economic recovery.”

PF leaders are above the law – Sikaile

SIKAILE Sikaile has observed that all PF leaders are above the law hence their protection from President Edgar Lungu.

On Thursday, State House told the nation that health minister Chitalu Chilufya who has been arrested by the Ant-Corruption Commission and charged with four counts of being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime, is innocent in President Edgar Lungu’s eyes.

The State House statement came after a sustained public demand that Dr Chilufya be relieved of his duties to pave way for the legal process.

Reacting to State House’s statement, Sikaile, a good governance and human rights activist, said it was clear that President Lungu was protecting all corruption suspects.

“I am wondering what President Lungu drinks before commenting on public issues such as the rampant corruption in PF government. I’m very disappointed with his statement issued on 02 July 2020 titled: President Edgar Lungu will respect the rule of law. This statement is criminal and an insult to the people of Zambia. To be honest, this is the most useless statement I have ever seen coming out of State House in my entire life,” he said. “All PF leaders and their thugs are above the law, that is why they can steal public resources, promote political violence and tribalism, kill their opponents, threaten to break citizens’ bones for demanding for answers. If anything, Lungu is risking the lives of these junior officers by protecting Chitalu Chilufya and what happens when Chitalu Chilufya is proved innocent by PF controlled courts? This is a clear indication that we have no serious president in our nation.”

He wondered if President Lungu really understood the meaning of the term rule of law.

“Chitalu Chilufya’s bail application paper work was pre-arranged before his fake arrest and he was only detained for an hour. It is not long ago when I told the country that President Edgar Lungu was shielding Chitalu Chilufya from being prosecuted just like it was in the [Ronald] Chitotela case which ended up being an acquittal,” Sikaile said. “Does Lungu know what the term rule of law means? Just in case Lungu did not read or understand the meaning of the terms rule of law, the rule of law is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as: ‘the authority and influence of law in society, especially when viewed as a constraint on individual and institutional behaviour; (hence) the principle whereby all members of a society (including those in government) are considered equally subject to publicly disclosed legal codes and processes’.”

He said the rule of law was closely related to constitutionalism.

Sikaile said it was clear that President Lungu and his team did not respect the law.

‘’Fighting corruption in Zambia should be the president’s priority number one. But here we have someone protecting thieves even shamelessly quoting the Constitution of Zambia to justify their criminal activities. This is the same mouth that few months ago told the nation that he was going to fire all his corrupt ministers,’’ said Sikaile.

“As though those claims were not enough, recently he openly challenged his ministers to stop stealing money as he noted that their accounts had money whose source was difficult to trace. And today he calls these rampant corruption allegations on Chitalu Chilufya as mere allegations. And again, this is not surprising of Edgar Lungu. He did the same thing during the presidential petition. He refused to hand over power to the Speaker after his presidency was challenged by the opposition simply because he knew that he would lose the petition and his influence on security wings would be little. So he decided to assault the Constitution of Zambia by staying illegally in the office during a court case to date.”
