A BRIEF LETTER TO MY MOTHER-IN-LAW

A BRIEF LETTER TO MY MOTHER-IN-LAW

Mama Cathy,

Tomorrow marks exactly one year since I and your daughter here exchanged vows. I’d really like to impress you by saying that its been easy. No. Am not a lier. Neither do I intend to be one.

This letter thus, is a summary of my observations on your daughter Cathy. And a way forward. So mama, read carefully.

Cathy here is a perfect cocktail of both joy and sorrow. For an average man out there, Cathy would not last a week as a wife. This lady here is annoyingly extra. Her dream has always been to get a man who would take her into his arms, throw her into bed, and clean up the entire house as she sleeps.

I try.

They say that women are unpredictable. But I guess Cathy’s case is beyond that. One moment she’s is all sweet and caring, the next moment she’s wildly acidic. Cathy goes to any possible length to prove a point. Especially when she is right on a matter. You rarely see Cathy’s tears. Cathy is not in any Chama. She dismisses them as silly gossip caucuses meant for idlers. According to her she isn’t one. Cathy stays out late. At work though. For according to her, its only by soiling your hands in honest labour, that you can feed nations. But wait, am I Nations?

Mama, at this point you want to ask if I want to divorce her.

NO.

Cathy is of an emerging tribe. An interesting tribe of women. For you to marry any woman of Cathy’s ‘tribe’ you must open your eyes to the reality that for our women, things have changed and the ground has moved beneath our feet. This women from this tribe are not rude, they are just self aware. These women are not proud, they are only aware that they are great. They are not feminists, they are only advocates of a balanced social structure.

So mama,

Thank you for not confining Cathy into the retrogressive demands of tradition. Thank you for making her believe that she too can go full length with her career pursuits. And thank you for always reminding her that a dollar earned, is far more precious than a dollar given. For a man with diverse view points on life like me, there will never be a dull moment with Cathy. I am excited and looking forward to more adventurers years with her as wife (a comrade in life’s pursuits). Am looking forward to living my life on the edge, knowing perfectly well that mine is a wife who knows her worth, plants her feet on the ground and roars confidently in her brilliance.

Mama,

With God’s blessing, I and Cathy will definitely have a daughter someday. Am hopeful that society will not pull her down as a lady. And that she will remain open minded and ruthlessly aware of herself. Just like her mummy here. And that her too, she will join the tribe of women who will breath new meaning into a world saturated with double standards.

That she too will be part of a larger female citizenry that knows how to seek relentless joy and also know how to laugh with their whole heart. The women who are confident enough to speak to strangers, because they have nothing to hide in their hearts. The women who are not afraid to show men out of their hearts, if he no longer honors her worth. The women who flip gender norms and false limitations and go full throttle into the direction of their ambitions. The women who hold people who harass them into fierce accountability!

That is the tribe of my wife Cathy. And I hope my unborn daughter becomes one of that tribe too.

Once again Mama Cathy, thank you.
Pass my regards to my father in law. See you guys soon

Best.

Kalomo woman divorces ‘savage’ man for failing to impregnate her

Kalomo woman divorces ‘savage’ man for failing to impregnate her

INSTEAD of romantically disciplining his wife of three years on their matrimonial bed, a young man of Kalomo district in Southern Province has been wasting time to beat her up.

On top of that bad impression, young Richman Bela 23, of Mapala village in Kalomo, has failed to impregnate a willing Prinet Muchimba, 20.

According to Voice of Kalomo radio, the two married in 2019 and, according to Prinet, her husband has been erecting his bicep muscles to beat her up, instead of erecting his other muscle and probably make her a first-time mother.

Frustrated at being a wife to a jealous man who just makes you sweat for nothing in between bed sheets or under a heavy duvet, Prinet left her matrimonial home.

She complained that Richman was actually poor at bedroom work and that he often beat her up, under the suspicion that she was seeing another man – probably more talented at sexual Olympics.

The matter of this quarreling couple found itself inside the Kalomo urban local court where it was heard that the duo had a sweet marriage until 2021, when Prinet went to her parents’ house and refused to go back to her home of blank missiles.

Richman told the court that he tried all he could to take Prinet back home but that his attempts were as blank as his home misfortune.

For Prinet, she told the court that she does not want a man who will be throwing punches at her and making her body swell – instead of penetrating into her to have that feeling that beats the taste of icing sugar.

Prinet does not hide her desire of going into the labour ward – not as a visitor but as a client.

But she believes that poor Richman is not that kind of a man who can send her to the labour ward, given that he has failed to score in a yawning goal post, for more than 20 months now.

After hearing from both parties, Kalomo urban local court magistrate Manjari Syanvundu granted divorce to the young couple.

Magistrate Syanvundu advised Richman’s parents to help their misfiring son to find medical aid that will make him potent and a lethal erotic striker.

The court further ordered Richman and Prinet to equally share their humble property, mainly just their wedding gifts received at their 2019 ‘till God do us part’ union.

Maybe all the two youngsters needed is a male/female sexual coach who has seen many goal-posts/erect muscles, respectively.

Zookeeper attacked by orangutan in viral video apologises for taunting it

0

A zoo visitor has apologised for taunting an orangutan minutes before it attacked him in Indonesia.

Hasanal Arifin, 19, climbed over the fence and filmed himself taunting the primate at the Kasang Kulim Zoo in Riau province on June 6.

The orangutan became furious when the teenager held out his arms towards the cage and it attacked.

The orangutan grabbed Hasanal’s t-shirt and the shocked teen can be heard crying out for help.

The furious animal tried to pull Hasanal inside the cage and even grabbed him by the leg.

An onlooker tried to intervene but the primate brushed them away.

Staff were alerted to the incident and Hasanal was kicked out of the zoo.

Hasanal later claimed he thought he was going to die.

Hasanal said: “I only made the video to play with the orangutan. I love all animals and I wasn’t teasing it to show off.

“I was shocked when it grabbed me. The monkey’s reflexes were so quick. It was unthinkable, I was not prepared. I thought it would kill me. I really thought I would die.

“The monkey’s hands were so strong. My legs were really hurting and he left scratches and bruises on them.

“I remember being trapped. It felt like a long time. I was just relieved when I escaped. But since then I have had a lot of problems because of the video. I have received a lot of abuse.

“Now I just want to move on from the incident because it has caused me so much trouble.”

Zoo officers later ordered Hasanal to make a public apology.

Speaking in the video, he said: “I want to apologise for what has happened and feel that I am endangering myself and the wildlife and causing a lot of harm to other parties.

“And I promise not to do that again because I have violated the restrictions that have been determined and regulated and warned by the zoo.

“And for those who saw my viral video, I want the video to be a lesson for all of us to obey the rules that have been determined.

“I want to apologise to my parents for making my mother and father disappointed.

“And for the people I have harmed, I want to apologise and I feel guilty for doing things that are against the rules.

“I appeal to all of the public and friends who saw my video, to not to do what I did. And stick to the rules.”

Husband allegedly bites off his wife’s nose in her father’s house then posts suicide note on Facebook after he was called out (graphic photos/video)

A father-of-three, who celebrated his wife on Facebook less than a week ago, has been accused of biting off her nose in her father’s house.

King Felix Nero and wife Queen Nero have been married for 5 years and have 3 kids together but it is alleged that Felix Nero has been abusive and also unfaithful.

Last year, it was alleged that he had an affair with his wife’s cousin, Ejiro Praise. At the time, the news went viral on many Warri blogs.

Due to the alleged domestic violence and infidelity, Queen moved with her kids back to her parent’s house in Asaba, Delta State.

Nero reportedly pleaded with many people, including social media influencers, to beg her to return to their home.

He also posted her on her birthday on June 3 and lavished her with sweet words.

She reportedly promised friends who pleaded with her that she will return to her matrimonial home on Saturday, June 4, but her husband Felix Nero visited her on the same day, allegedly caused trouble in her father’s house and bit off her nose.

Her kids can also be heard crying in the background and calling for their “mummy”.

The video caused outrage and led people to call Felix out.

Felix has now taken to Facebook to write a suicide note.

He asked the public to forgive him for everything and told his 3 kids that “even in death” he will still love them.

He told the public not to judge him as he alone knows the pain and depression he’s been suffering for years.

Social media followers are now calling on his wife to put their differences aside and seek out her husband to prevent him from commiting suicide.

Federal prosecutors recommend R. Kelly be sentenced to more than 25 years in prison

0

Federal prosecutors in New York recommended that disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly be sentenced to more than 25 years in prison, citing his “decades of crime” and a “callous disregard for the very real effects that his crimes had on his victims,” according to a sentencing memorandum filed Wednesday.
They also recommended Kelly should be fined between $50,000 (approx. Ksh. 5.8 million) to $250,000 (around Ksh. 29.2 million) according to the document.

Kelly, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was convicted in September of racketeering, including acts of bribery and sexual exploitation of a child, and of separate charges of sex trafficking.

In their filing this week, prosecutors argued Kelly showed no remorse for what he did, and that his actions were fueled by a belief that his “musical talent absolved him of any need to conform his conduct — no matter how predatory, harmful, humiliating or abusive to others — to the strictures of the law.”

CNN has reached out to Kelly’s attorney for comment.

The lengthy recommendation proposed by the government is necessary to deter others from engaging in similar conduct, prosecutors said Wednesday.

“While the government doubts that the defendant will be deterred, a lengthy sentence of imprisonment will serve to deter others — including those with wealth, fame and the outsized power such status brings — from engaging in similar crimes,” the memorandum said.

“This is particularly so given the high-profile nature of the defendant and the likelihood that the length of his sentence will be widely publicized,” it added.

In his federal case, Kelly was found guilty of all nine counts he faced — one count of racketeering, with 14 underlying acts that included sexual exploitation of a child, kidnapping, bribery and sex trafficking charges — and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits sex trafficking across state lines.

Of the 14 underlying acts for the racketeering count, he needed to be found guilty of at least two to be convicted of that count. Jurors found prosecutors had proven all but two of the 14 underlying racketeering acts.

Kelly is expected to be sentenced on June 29 in the Eastern District of New York.

Two British soldiers sentenced to death by Russia for joining Ukrainian army to fight in the war

Two British fighters who joined the Ukrainian army in the fight against invading Russian troops in Ukraine have been sentenced to death by a Russian proxy court

The pair, Aiden Aslin, 28, and Shaun Pinner, 48, were in the dock alongside a Moroccan man, Saaudun Brahim, in the supreme court of the self-declared People’s Republic of Donetsk.

They were captured in April while fighting for Ukrainian forces against Russian invaders in Mariupol.

The British men and Moroccan national Brahim Saadoun who reportedly had been a student studying in Kyiv, before he was also detained in April, were accused by Russia and Kremlin-backed Donetsk separatists of being “mercenaries” and charged with “terrorism”.

All three defendants were forced to ‘plead guilty to the charges in front of TV cameras yesterday.

The defendants are the “first foreign mercenaries convicted in the Donetsk People’s Republic,” the Donetsk news agency claimed.

Judge Alexander Nikulin said the verdict “was guided not only by the prescribed norms and rules, but also by the most important, unshakable principle of justice”.

Speaking from behind bars, Mr Aslin said: “I was hoping the sentence would be a lot fairer judging the circumstances in which I helped the investigation and also because I surrendered to the Donetsk People’s Republic. I wish it could be different but God will be the one that will judge me when the time comes.”

Reacting to the sentence, A Number 10 spokesperson said: ‘We are obviously deeply concerned by this.

‘We have said continually that prisoners of war shouldn’t be exploited for political purposes.

‘You will know that under the Geneva Convention prisoners of war are entitled to combatant immunity and they should not be prosecuted for participation in hostilities.

‘So we will continue to work with the Ukrainian authorities to try to secure the release of any British nationals who were serving in the Ukrainian armed forces and who are being held as prisoners of war.’

Woman wins £4.1m payout from car insurance company after catching STD while having sex in partner’s car

0

A woman has been awarded a huge £4.1m payout from a car insurance company after she caught an STD while having sex in the back of her partner’s Hyundai.

The woman, referred to in court documents as simply M.O., said that she contracted human papillomavirus, HPV, from her lover while they were having sex in the back of his car.

He was insured by GEICO General Insurance Company, and in February 2021 she notified them that she intended to seek compensation for the damages she received from their client.

Court documents reveal that the man knew he had HPV, alongside throat cancer, yet continued to have sex with M.O. without notifying her of the risks, which “directly caused, or directly contributed to cause” the infection, Dailystar.co.uk reports.

The Jackson County Circuit Court ruled that the man was liable, and the woman was awarded a £4.1m settlement, to be paid by his insurance company, GEICO.

Court documents show that after the Jackson County Circuit Court ruled in M.O.’s favour,

GEICO took the case to the Missouri Court of Appeals to dispute the ruling. They claimed the judgement violated their rights to due process, and the settlement was unenforceable, as Yahoo.com reports.

But a panel of three judges looked into the case and concluded that the result was valid and that the insurance company must pay the £4.1m settlement.

The ruling, from the Missouri Court of Appeals, reads: “After M.O. contracted anogenital human papillomavirus, she submitted a settlement offer to GEICO, asserting Insured negligently infected her with the disease during sexual encounters in his automobile, and that Insured’s GEICO-issued automobile insurance policy provided coverage for her injuries and losses.

“…The arbitrator found Insured negligently infected M.O. with HPV and awarded her $5.2m in damages.

“…In 2017, M.O. and Insured began a romantic relationship, effective at that time was an automobile insurance policy issued by GEICO to Insured.

“On February 25, 2021, M.O. submitted to GEICO a copy of a petition she intended to file against Insured, and made a final settlement offer to resolve her ‘claims against Insured for the applicable limits of $1m’.

“The petition attached to the settlement offer alleged that during ‘November and early of December of 2017’, Insured and M.O. engaged in unprotected sexual activities in Insured’s vehicle, and during those sexual encounters, Insured ‘negligently caused or contributed to cause M.O. to be infected with HPV by not taking proper precautions and neglecting to inform and/or disclose his diagnosis’, despite ‘having knowledge of his condition.” S

peaking to the Daily Mail, Los Angeles personal injury attorney Miguel Custodio, said: “If you think about it as an injury sustained while in that person’s vehicle, then it totally falls within what an insurance company would be required to pay.

“Usually, injuries to passengers are the result of a collision or slamming the door on one’s fingers, that sort of thing. But while a lawsuit over contracting an STD from the insured driver may be the first of its kind, this award shows that it’s not a stretch for someone to file against an insurance company for any actions occurring in a motor vehicle.

“The lesson to be learned here is that people need to broaden the scope of what an injury is. Most people would not think that contracting this disease is an injury suffered in a vehicle — though it definitely is.”

Marrying two wives has brought me blessings and elevated my two wives – Yul Edochie

0

Actor Yul Edochie has said that marrying two wives has brought him blessings and elevated his two wives.

Recall that in April Yul disclosed that he has taken actress, Judy Moghalu as his second wife and welcomed a son with her.

In a post he shared on his Instagram page this evening, Yul stated that he wronged his first wife May with the way he went about getting married to Judy and that he has since apologized to her.

His post reads;

”God works in mysterious ways.
Marrying a 2nd wife has brought me blessings and also elevated my two lovely wives.

Sometimes it takes the things we see as disappointments to happen for elevation to come.

It happened many times in the bible, just like the case of Joseph.
I’m a man after God’s heart.

I’m like King David in the bible.
I communicate with my God and He guides me everyday.
I wronged my wife May from the way I went about it, and I have apologized to her sincerely from the bottom of my heart, but in the eyes of God things are different.

God blesses differently.
His ways are not our ways.
Our destinies are different.
Don’t be deceived by the white man’s culture.
Same White people that condemn polygamy are encouraging men to marry their fellow men.

In the end judgement is for God.
Even white people don’t understand God fully.
Nobody does, actually. That’s why He remains God.

Many great men in the bible had one wife, many great men in the same bible also had more than one wife.
And if that happens to be your destiny God will elevate you and elevate all that concerns you through it.

My wife May just signed her first endorsement deal.
Something that never happened all these years. And this came from what many saw as a disappointment.
I have realized that God’s ways are different.
Many more deals will still come to her cos she’s a wonderful person.

So is my wife Judy.
She has also been elevated. Now widely known, her career is bigger with a whole lot going for her as well.
Let me not even talk about myself.
My stardom has tripled.
My name is being mentioned in places it never got to before.
My children are blessed.
Summary: The ways of God are different.
Our destinies are not the same.

You may not understand another man’s destiny and that’s because you’re not supposed to, except your own.
If God gives you more than one wife it will come with blessings and elevation.
Run your race and put God first in all you do.
He speaks to each of us differently.
Love and Peace to us all.”

THE CASE OF GOD REVEALING ONE’S ENEMIES

By Miles B. Sampa

A few days ago as I sat sunbasking next to one of the MPs, he received a call from another MP currently on duty abroad. As with his earlier calls, he put this chit chat on loud speaker.

They were just catching up on general topics but not until the MP on the other side diverted to “Have you seen Miles positioning himself for PF president with the fake opinion poll on social media. Have you seen how he is posting with ‘Together We Can’ line. Who does he think he is”

The MP seated on the same bench with me almost froze. “He is my relative that one”. He quickly brushed the topic aside.

I immediately got my phone and texted this MP currently in Europe explaining that I have no clue on people behind the opinion poll and more so that I have not stated anything on the PF presidency thus far. I also mentioned that ‘Together We Can’ is a line I started as Mayor in 2019 for my Ubuntu programmes of helping the vulnerable and poor. It has no political connotations.

He texted me back with blazing near insults calling me all sorts of names. Some MMD entrants into PF are very good people but this particular MP is in the habit of picking fights with anyone that was with Michael Sata in 2011 when PF defeated his original party MMD.

Then yesterday I overheard another candidate say “those social media polls are fake”. I then realized the opinion poll did not go very well with most within.

That said may I encourage whoever wishes to stand regardless of their tribe or origin (blue or green) do so and be allowed to. May anyone from any of the 10 provinces of Zambia exercise their right to stand if they so wish. After all the current overall determinant youth voters in Zambia have expressed themselves loudly that they care less about tribe but more of individual qualities and potential of any particular candidate.

May the social media opinion polls managers next time they conduct one ensure to include all candidates that want so stand for the shadow throne. May this MP that I heard verbatim abusing my name because of the last poll results also be included. Since he and others think social media polls are manipulated, may the poll managers consider manipulating results in their favour.

We will keep eyes on our ubuntu lane of assisting the vulnerable and poor in Matero. It’s gives us priceless joy.

We however reserve the right to stand up if circumstances ever dictate so at any point.

The repugnant scent of recolonisation: Zambia’s complacency and USAFRICOM- Richard Chomba

The repugnant scent of recolonisation: Zambia’s complacency and USAFRICOM

By Richard Chomba

Africa’s former colonial masters, including their allies in her plunder, would have been foolish

If, after relinquishing direct political control over her sovereignty and over her natural resources, they faded into the shadows of global trade and industry, spheres of life they had dominated for years thanks to her raw materials and cheap labour.

Their lust for wealth and power was, and still is, insatiable, so, naturally, a plan was devised to perpetuate their dominance and Africa’s dependence on them. Anyone who stood in the way of this scheme was to be taken out of the way.

This they achieved through state sponsored coups, proxy wars as well as outright military invasions of foreign countries, and covert assassinations. Kwame Nkrumah, himself a victim of a CIA orchestrated coup, foresaw this, writing: “now that African freedom is accepted by all … as inescapable fact, there are efforts in certain quarters to make arrangements whereby the local populations are given token freedom while cords attaching them to the ‘mother country’ remain as firm as ever….

The intention is to use the new African nations, so circumscribed, as puppets through whom influence can be extended over states which maintain an independence in keeping with their sovereignty.

The creation of several weak and unstable states of this kind in Africa, it is hoped, will ensure the continued dependence on the former colonial powers for economic aid, and impede African unity.

This policy of balkanisation is the new imperialism, the new danger to Africa.”
Nkrumah’s words have come to pass.

The post-colonial era which has been characterised by the pillaging of African nations by more developed, more powerful, states, bears a stark resemblance to the colonial days. The hand of imperialism, in the background, controls the politics (through
self-centered, corrupt, politicians) and economies of African states. The peripheral political arena is a stage for opposing imperialist forces to battle it out for the control of raw materials and monetary flow in the countries in question. These forces were, largely the USSR and the USA (in collusion with the UK & other Western-European democracies) in the cold war period.

After the USA and its allies emerged victors of the cold war: after the fall of the Berlin war and
the disintegration of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR); a new foe for western interests was unveiling.

While they were preoccupied with the USSR, China had been rising. In the early 2000s through to the early 2010s, it became apparent to western neoliberals, that their clandestine exploitation of African states had been challenged by ‘modern imperial China’. Through the use of a USA-invented playbook on dominating African states, China financed much needed infrastructural projects, burdening developing African countries with too much debt than they are able to pay back, and thereby making African states beholden to Chinese influence in key sectors of the economy, and governance.

This, as one would imagine, has not sat well with the USA, the UK, Australia, the EU, and other US allies such as Japan and India, political and economic foes of China. Deliberate, and well coordinated, policies and steps to counter Chinese influence in Africa have since been taken by these countries.

As the US senate majority leader senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) said in 2021 during the senate’s passing of the US Innovation and Competition Act (a bill aimed at curtailing Chinese global dominance): “passing this bill… is the moment when the senate lays the foundation for another century of American leadership… this bill could be the turning point for American leadership in the 21st century… the world is more competitive now, than at any time since the end of the second world war. If we do nothing, our days as the dominant super-power may be ending. We don’t mean to let those days end on our watch! We don’t mean to see America becoming a middling nation in this century, we mean for America to lead it!”

The bill, as the name suggests, aims to maintain America’s superiority in tech and innovation globally, which has been challenged by China; or, in my view, it aims to simply regain it.

This fit, however, won’t be simple. All things considered, to say that China became the most superior country in the world in areas of technological innovation, manufacturing, construction, and global trade & finance; with the west paying a blind eye, would be foolhardy. Western countries, through their corporations and elites (the one-percenters) did in fact fund China’s rising.

In 1978, Chinese ‘paramount leader’ Deng Xiaoping, thought it was prudent if China was to become a force to be reckoned with in manufacturing, global trade and development. That is, if modern day China were to reclaim the past glory of ancient China – which was an economic and military force to reckon with – Chinese communism which had governed the Peoples Republic of China since its founding in 1949 by Mao Zedong (chairman of the Chinese Communist Party) needed to be modified. In order for China to become a prosperous communist state, Deng articulated, it had to
adopt some capitalist practices. He made reforms that would allow private ownership and private businesses. Special economic zones were set up in Shantou, Zhuhai, Xiamen, and Shenzhen. These small towns and villages, at that time, were now designated as capitalist havens in a communist republic.

They attracted vast amounts of capital, following these reforms, from western corporations and the “one-percenters”, owing to the cheap labour and low taxes and regulations that they provided. Deng’s little experiment was resounding a success. Now China, a country that was among the poorest in the world when he came to power, houses the second largest GDP in the world, and has become “the world’s factory”. China became rich, and the “one-percent” became even richer.

China started tunnelling its profits to the developing world to finance infrastructure development programmes, as was earlier alluded to, among other things, in a bid to gain leverage over the leaders of these nations who preside over raw materials that it desperately needs for its economic expansion.

This has worked well for China, and Africa has
continued to be exploited by foreign powers, with its leaders as accomplices. China simply used the western blueprint on how to rip-off Africa, to rip-off Africa. In fact, every other powerful country with a foothold on the continent uses a western invented system to exploit the good people of Africa, that is, through self-centered leaders. These leaders have no problem relinquishing their counties’ sovereignty through allowing foreign powers to set-up military bases, and military command offices, so long as they are promised funds for “development”, which they are then able to loot for themselves. They also see these outposts of foreign military installations as a means to safeguard their power. After taking a careful look at the world governance and economic system, and the “leaders” of this system – its chief architects – and how that this system subjugates African nations, perpetually; it begs the question: how did Africa’s colonisers and their allies in her plunder manage to subordinate African nations for this long, even after they gained the right to govern themselves? Well, a simple answer may be: they never intended to let go of Africa’s vast natural resources. It was theirs and theirs for good, and so was Africa: theirs to control, in all spheres.

As Lee Wengraf puts it in her book, ‘Extracting Profit’: through the structure of investments,

aid, loans, trade and trade policy; western governments – and if I might add: Eastern governments – Bretton Woods Institutions (the IMF and World Bank) and the pre-colonial imperialist as well as capitalist forces, acting collectively, perpetuated relationship dynamics
between the global elite, the “one-percenters”, and African states (developing countries) such as Zambia that abrogate the basic principles of fairness and equity.

These relationship dynamics between them, and the African political elite, are the same ones that existed during the colonial era: the country’s natural resources are ransacked, while a few vitiated indigenous black people, at the helm of local leadership, benefit.

In the independence era, colonialism gained a new name, it morphed into “the post-colonial era”. The underlying fundamentals set up by “the exploitative

coalition”, in 1944 at the Bretton Woods conference, only anchored, to quote senator Schumer, “American leadership” in this new era of sly white-collar thievery. A good majority of leaders of the African nationalist movements that fostered independence were the ‘spoiled children’ of the colonial era which preceded our token political independence. Most of them lacked a conscience, and were already in cahoots with imperial powers while they “fought for independence”. They understood their role as “puppet leaders” very well (lest we forget, this phenomenon of puppet African leaders started in the colonial days). These “patriots’” motive for gaining independence
was their need to sit – to bring it home – on top of the Zambian food chain: their insatiable lust for having more wealth and power, and their desire to control the finance attached to the national developmental agenda, as well as their fellow countrymen. They wanted to call the shots. They could read and write, while the majority couldn’t. Their education was meager compared to national leaders in the western world, but they were, nonetheless, highly educated compared to the rest of the populace, and so they became the aristocracy of Zambian society following our independence.

Post colonialism, just as Northern Rhodesia was oriented to supply “advanced nations” and the corporations within them with raw materials to feed their industrial needs, independent Zambia did not depart from that course which had detrimental effects to the environment, and little to no positive ramifications to the microeconomics of the majority of citizens (serve for a few politically tied individuals), as well as the macroeconomics of the country as a whole. The country continued to depend on foreign aid and started to entertain unsustainable debt, the “restructuring” of which only meant that the noose of foreign control of the nation’s economy and politics only became tighter. In Northern Rhodesia western bankers and trading companies would greatly benefit from financing and servicing of the mining sector, while mineworkers earned a meager income.

Nothing much has changed in present day Zambia. European, American, Chinese, Japanese and Indian capital, to mention but a few, pretty much runs the show today in not only the mining industry, but other facets of the economy too.

This is done openly and covertly – directly and indirectly – and always in collusion with complacent government leaders. Workers have continued to be exploited. Opposition political parties exist because they yearn to be the ones benefiting from the exploitation of our lands and our peoples, and not their counterparts with “the democratic mandate to rule”.

Democracy itself is a facade western leaders use to remove and install defiant and complaint national leaders to western interests, respectively. The global-east, specifically one-party China, makes use of democracy in countries such as Zambia in the same vein as western interests. We, therefore, now have a situation where different interests keen to take over the reins of power in our country fund their preferred puppets, to help subjugate the general populace, and specifically the local economy, under their control. One puppet leaves office, another swoops in.

Democracy saves western interests the hustle of having to fund proxy wars and covert assassinations to take out leaders who are antagonistic to their “good-for-the-world” agenda.

Leaders such as the DRC’s Patrice Lumumba, whose defiance and detest of western hegemony over the Congo’s vast natural
resources and economy were very deep-rooted and public. He proclaimed (shortly before his CIA facilitated assassination): “the Congo’s independence is a decisive step towards the liberation of the whole African continent…. I call on all Congolese citizens, men, women and children, to set themselves resolutely to the task of creating a national economy and ensuring our economic independence”.

Of course, the hawkish always justify their evil acts. Just like when they overthrew a democratically elected leader through a coup to install a puppet king, the Shah, who was sympathetic to western interests in Iran (Iranian oil), but yet repressive to his fellow citizens, or when the US secretary of state smiled and waved at cameras during the welcoming of a murderous despot – the current president of Equatorial Guinea: Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo – to Washington, a man who tortures his opponents like a barbarian, but nonetheless almost exclusively allows American companies to extract much of its $9 billion annual worth of oil and gas.

The latter came to power through a bloody coup in 1979 that toppled his uncle, Equatorial Guinea’s first head of state: Francisco Macias Nguema; and has been in power ever since. They, the US and its allies, have no problem in associating with Rwandese president, Paul Kagame, also a murderous dictator, famous for killing his opponents and repressing domestic dissent, and who’s been in power since 2000 through manipulation of the electoral system.

In apartheid South Africa, US capital would go in, and come out multiplied enroute to the United States, unremorseful of the horrors that the majority of black South Africans were experiencing at the hands of the apartheid regime.

Wengraf writes: “by the mid-1970s, US policymakers explicitly acknowledged the urgency of managing “political risk” vis-á-vis the apartheid regime so that US and white-South African capital retained “control of the richest and most strategically important part of Sub-Saharan Africa. Despite growing condemnation of apartheid rule, at the time, the value of US investment in South Africa was approximately one-third of its total investment in Africa and increased by 300 per cent from 1960 to 1975. Given the importance of this economic relationship, the United States was content to sidestep opposition to apartheid, despite the knowledge that “there was little evidence that US firms deliberately adopted a socially conscious policy of avoiding support of the South African government or its apartheid policies.”

Apparently, making money under oppressive regimes is for the greater good; that is: American greed. At the dawn of the independence error that followed shortly after the end of the second world war, there was a well-orchestrated strategy by the USA to forge political and economic bonds with the newly independent African states.

The goal for US policy at this time was to possess a greater advantage over the newly independent African nations – of course the foundation for this had already been set at the Bretton Woods conference – than their arch-rivals: the USSR; and also, Africa’s former colonisers – the Europeans (the aim here was to bypass them and reach the source of their much-desired raw materials directly and not through their allies: the colonialists).

In fact, the assassination of Patrice Lumumba in 1961, was a covert maneuver against, not just the DRC, but Marxist USSR too, and was seen as a necessary evil in the safeguard of America’s imperial interests in the DRC. What factors have led to Africa’s mass, as well as perpetual, plundering; that is, from the colonial days until now? Aside from imperial ambition, is the greed and self-interest exhibited by local leaders. Pre colonialism, colonial explorers, eager to obtain African land – rich in natural resources – for themselves, would entice African leaders with gifts such as fabric, beads, wine, whiskey, and mirrors.

That was enough, coupled with promises of more of such gifts, in certain instances, to sign off on property rights to the colonialists. Additionally, cowardice! Because of fearing white firepower, black leaders tended to easily give up natural resources for a fraction of their actual worth. So long as they benefited, it didn’t matter that the rest of the population continued to suffer without having their resources benefit them, or take them out of poverty.

Post colonialism, the majority of African leaders, especially those in power – or those allowed to be in power by the west – continue to entertain imperial interests for all the same reasons as their ancestors who allowed colonialism to flourish.

The independence era paved way for the subtle
recolonisation of Africa by western, as well as eastern, powers. Always in on the plot to ransack Africa has been the African political elite. Selfishness and cowardice characterise Africa’s bourgeoisie till this very day.

This is the unspoken truth, even when they stand before local audiences claiming they want to develop the country. Those who would genuinely want to develop local communities, prioritising local control of the economy, are taken out. Despots who give priority to western demands are left in their power sits, up to several decades in some cases.

It’s surprising how comfortable government leaders are with this status-quo – well maybe it’s not so surprising seeing as only they, and not the larger society, benefit from treaties made with “Africa’s owners”! This is very appalling to anyone with a live moral compass.

Recently in Zambia, news surfaced concerning the setting up of USAFRICOM offices at the US Embassy in Lusaka. Some called it a military base. Clarity then came from the US Embassy that what’s being set up is an “Office of Security Cooperation”.

Due to failure by both parties to not make public the contents of the MoU between Zambia and the US DoD, such confusion was to
be expected – and, knowing both parties involved, maybe they deliberately hid the details so as to have a last word about the said offices, thereby controlling the final narrative that would stick in people’s heads, while making the real intent of such an office classified.

Be that as it may, what is USAFRICOM? What’s the purpose of setting up shop in Zambia? Wouldn’t it have been more prudent to have held a consultative meeting with all stakeholders before agreeing to the establishment of these ‘offices’? Whose interests does USAFRICOM aim to serve? Is it imperial interests?

The United States Africa Command, or USAFRICOM, is one of eleven Unified Combatant Commands (CCMD) of the United States Department of DefenCe (US DoD). The CCMD is a joint military command, and each command is composed of units from at least two of the six branches of the US Armed Forces: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard. Together, the Unified Combatant Commands oversea at least 750 outposts, or military bases, of the US DoD globally, in at least 80 countries.

It costs the US taxpayers an estimated $80 billion to construct and service military bases, as well as pay US military service members stationed on these bases, annually. Each unit of the Unified Combatant Command conducts extensive and continuous missions in its area of operation. Units of the CCMD are organised either on a geographic or a functional basis. USAFRICOM, as the name suggests, is a unit of the CMMD that conducts its operations on the African continent.

USAFRICOM’s military operations on the continent include helping African governments and their militaries fight regional conflicts and maintaining military relations with 53 African nations which don’t include Egypt (that falls under the United States Central Command). The major factors that define USAFRICOM’s operations on the continent are: “the growing threat of international terrorism”, safeguarding the USA’s oil, gas, and mineral interests; and the Sino[1]Africa relations that have been forged-strong in the last 22 years. USAFRICOM’s strategy, according to General Carter F. Ham (retd), is “to strengthen democratic institutions” and “boosting broad-based economic growth”. Currently, USAFRICOM is headquartered at Kelley Barracks in Stuttgart, Germany.

Certain high ranking, current and retired, US army officers have, however, stressed the merits of having a section of USAFRICOM staff headquartered on the continent, claiming it would be a positive factor in aiding USAFRICOM to better execute its programmes. Cognisant of the political backlash, and controversy, attached with the notion of setting up a headquarters of a branch of the US Army’s combatant division on the continent, then president of America, George W Bush (who has mining interests in North Western Province of Zambia), claimed no large-scale US military base would be set up to house USAFRICOM’s headquarters on the continent (though Camp Lemonnier that houses some 2,300 US Army servicemen exists in Djibouti, but is nonetheless not the USAFRICOM HQ), rather, a network of “cooperative security locations” at which “temporary activities” would be conducted seemed like a more viable option.

It has been reported that several African countries such as Liberia and Nigeria have in the past been competing to house USAFRICOM headquarters because it comes with a lot of financial incentives to the host nation, or government politicians.

At the same time, several nations have been opposed to the setting up of a USAFRICOM HQ on African soil. These include South Africa, and Libya.

Seeing as the government of the Republic of Zambia has agreed, without first engaging the general public through various stakeholders, to house this “office of security cooperation”, (which is a part of a larger network of “cooperative security locations” on the continent), it’s only safe to conclude that this hasn’t been done for the mutual benefit of our two countries.

Three entities are involved here, one stands to benefit more, the other will benefit slightly, the other doesn’t benefit at all – these are: US interests in Africa, Zambia and the region; Zambian government politicians; and the people of Zambia, respectively.

US military offices, in whatever form, do come with an influx of money to the hosts that house them, and it’s apparent here that the people in charge of our government want to reap something for themselves.

Personally, I find it discouraging to galvanise around national leaders that are comfortable with defeat, with being willful accomplices in aiding and abetting an imperial power to be “great for the next 100 years”, implying we, as a country and continent, will remain subdued by it for the next 100 years, and that we’ll get caught up in the cross fire for the battle over our natural resources between this power and its arch rivals, and that our people will remain poor while a few politicians get richer – that is, if nothing is done to rectify the situation. I actually find it disgusting.

‘Praying for the FAZ executive to fail’

‘Praying for the FAZ executive to fail’

Football over decades has become a business, political tool, and certainly one of the most entertaining sports globally. In fact, few things can rival football as a spectator sport and this is also matched by the number of people who participate in the sport – be it at grassroots level, 5-a-side leagues or simply playing for fun with friends. In the last global census undertaken by the sport’s governing body FIFA, it was estimated that there are 265 million people who play the sport along with more than five million referees, which equates to four per cent of the world’s population.

It can therefore, factually be stated that football is the most popular sport in the world. A major employer too.

It took time for the world’s most powerful nation, the United States of America, to realise how powerful football is politically. This led to the US bid for the 1994 edition which they eventually hosted. This resulted from a realisation that football had become a global political power, no wonder the world football governing body, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is a government in itself.

Back home, we have witnessed football politics at a very low level, especially in the last 15 years. Zambian football has suffered at the hands of politics. There has been a lot of name calling, simply because certain stakeholders in the game do not like the people occupying Football House. We have seen hooliganism of the worst kind. We went to a level where a FAZ official slapped a journalist in the name of football politics.

The PF government worsened it when they joined the fight against the Andrew Kamanga-led FAZ executive. Their levels of engagement with Kamanga became too petty and unjustified – to a point where we risked being banned by FIFA.

We are not saying Kamanga’s administration should not be checked or criticised. Far from it. To the contrary, we are encouraging checks and balances on the current FAZ executive because they are not angels – they are human beings. They have a lot of inadequacies as well. But what we encourage is levelheaded engagement with them, not pettiness. Let us talk about issues that will develop football. Please don’t take us backwards with your petty demands about who should be at football house and who should not.

For example, most Kamanga critics want our football icon Kalusha Bwalya to go back to Football House as president. But this is a man who was at the helm of Zambian football for 12 years or so. Why do they want to bring him down when he should be ascending to higher levels? We want to see our Kalu occupy some big positions at CAF or FIFA. He is a legend. Please, leave the man out of your mess and concentrate on your own imaginary battles with Kamanga. After all, sadists never win anywhere in the world.

And we agree with sports minister Elvis Nkandu when he says people in football should not pray for the Football Association of Zambia to fail so that they have a reason to challenge the leadership.

“We need to be very united especially those who are in football. It’s high time that you unite and it’s not always that you are looking forward to someone’s failure. We should not always encourage other people to fail. You need to come together because I believe that a united house will be able to do wonders,” says Nkandu. “This is not about FAZ but this is about people in football. You should unite. Don’t pray for people to fail. You are not in Cameroon; you are Zambians and something that should preoccupy your mind is to have a positive result. Not praying for someone to fail so that tomorrow you have a reason to say ‘let me get into that position’. Everything has got its own time. I am begging you, for once you people forget about what you people differed and concentrate on building football. Let’s be united so that we achieve our objectives.”

Elvis’ call is sincere and patriotic. It is not born out of selfishness. And we applaud him for starting a new page as sports minister. He has not joined the bandwagon of Kamanga’s sworn adversaries, some of whom have no reason for the ‘beef’ with Andrew. We remember that some people tried to bring Elvis into this fight when he was just appointed sports minister, but he quickly realised and came out of it. This is wise leadership where you refuse to be used in unknown and uncalled for fights. Keep it up Elvis! We need this spirit and leadership because football is more important than individual mercenaries and charlatans.
When our players kick the ball on the pitch, they don’t do it for Andrew or Kalusha. They do it for their country – Zambia. No wonder they are called the Zambia national football team or Chipolopolo as we fondly know them. Unity is part of our legacy and identity on this continent. Let’s continue developing our football and one day we shall definitely qualify for the World Cup

Belgium’s king in DR Congo to heal wounds, returns looted mask of the Suku people

0

Belgium’s King Philippe has returned a Congolese mask looted during the colonial era to the National Museum in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The mask, called Kakungu, belongs to the ethnic Suku people from the southwest of the country, who used it during healing ceremonies.

Seventy years ago, an art dealer bought the mask and it was exhibited at Belgium’s Royal Museum for Central Africa. Phillipe said the object was on “indefinite loan” from Belgium’s Royal Museum for Central Africa to DR Congo. It is also the first of some 84,000 artefacts looted during the colonial era that are expected to be returned from the Royal Museum for Central Africa.

Philippe and Queen Mathilde are on a historic week-long visit to DR Congo at the invitation of President Félix Tshisekedi. It is Philippe’s first visit since ascending the throne in 2013.

“I wanted, during our visit at the National Museum and in your presence, to return to you this exceptional work in order to allow Congolese to discover and admire it,” Philippe said of the mask. “It marks the symbolic beginning of the reinforcement of the cultural collaboration between Belgium and Congo,” he added.

BBC reports that an agreement was signed to open cultural collaboration between DR Congo’s National Museum and the Royal Museum for Central Africa. Philippe’s visit to DR Congo is part of his country’s efforts to make amends for colonialism.

Philippe is an indirect descendent of Leopold II, who ruled Congo with an iron fist for more than a century. The King of the Belgians, Leopold II, ruled from 1865 to 1909 and has been described as worse than Adolf Hitler for his genocide against the people of the Congo Free State (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) who he considered as his personal property including their lands and minerals. An undetermined number of Congolese, ranging in the millions, were killed in the hands of Leopold’s private colonial militia of 90,000 men called Force Publique, which he used to run the region that is the size of Western Europe and 76 times larger than Belgium.

On the 60th anniversary of DR Congo’s independence in 2020, Philippe expressed his “deepest regrets” to the African nation for his country’s colonial abuses.

Cameroon: We are going to the World Cup to Win – FECAFOOT President Eto’o

0

The President of the Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto’o has set a huge objective for the Indomitable Lions ahead of the FIFA Qatar World Cup later this year – the one of winning the trophy.

Cameroon will compete in Group G alongside Brazil, Serbia and Switzerland. The indomitable Lions will play their first match on November 24, against Switzerland, at the Al Janoub Stadium.

Cameroon’s best performance in the world was in Italy in 1990 when they became the first African country to reach the quarter-final. Coach Rigobert Song Bahanag will be leading the indomitable lions for the Qatar expedition, and Eto’o feels he has all that it takes to do better.

“Between the coach (Rigobert Song) and I, we have played four world cups each and we know the problems of this house. He has all my support and I will assume all that he will tell me,” Samuel Eto’o said.

The FECAFOOT president himself featured in four World Cups for Cameroon during his playing days – 2014, 2010, 2002, and 1998. Though his generation failed to bring glory to the continent on the world scene, he is hoping the new generation of players can do better than they did when the country will feature in its eighth world cup.

“We’re going to Qatar to win. Things must change. We’re going into every match to win, the others did not do magic. That is our mentality now,” Eto’o told the Cameroon National team in Douala on Saturday after a friendly game pitting the home-based players and the foreign-based.

“We have players here like the Zambo Anguissa’s, Onana (André), who are amongst the best in the world. Why shouldn’t we think of the dream of winning? I want us to dream humbly, but we have to dream because for us you’re the best.”

“All that we’re doing is for Doha. We will also dream-like others. The history of the World Cup will be written otherwise. The others are good, but they also consider us the best,” the former FC Barcelona striker who was voted FECAFOOT president on December 11, 2021, added.

“I have been quiet for too long and I think this is the time to start mobilising my people from my party PF’’ – GBM

I’M not shaken and nothing will change me. I will always be GBM. No one will take that away from me, former United Party for National Development (UPND) Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has said.

Mr Mwamba was speaking in an interview at the Lusaka Magistrate Court premises yesterday after meeting the bail conditions as ordered by the court.

The court granted Mwamba bail of K300, 000 in own recognizance with two working sureties.

Mr Mwamba said he was in court just because he resigned from UPND.

This is in a matter Mwamba has been charged with Lusaka businessman Adolphus Mubanga. The two are facing 27 counts of money laundering and being in possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The two appeared before Magistrate Sandford Ngobola for commencement of plea but however could not take plea as the defence team represented by Mr Bonaventure Mutale made an application to have the matter adjourned.

Mr Mutale made an application saying he needed enough time to go through the indictment as he just received it and also to advise his client who is facing 24 counts.

The former defence minister said he would remain firm as no one could ever shake him because he had passed through a lot in his political career.

He said he had been detained on several times so the whole process happening to him is not strange.

“This is not the first time I’m going through this, even with the previous president I went through this, same even with UPND, I went through the same, I have been detained several times so this is not strange to me. I’m not shaken, this is not the time to be shaken, I have never been shaken and no one will shake me,’’ he said.

Mr Mwamba said all is going through is a political persecution because they are talking about the case which happened when he was Minister of Defence.

“This is a political persecution, they are talking about a case which happened when I was Minister of Defence and they have no facts that I interfered in the procurement of that contract,’’ he said.

“I am here, but I assure you that I’m strong and getting stronger by the day,’’ he said.

He assured the Patriotic Front that he was back and will now start doing his duties.

“I have been quiet for too long and I think this is the time to start mobilising my people from my party PF.’’ he said.

Mr Mwamba was charged on Eight Counts of Conflict of Interest contrary to section 28 (2) as read with subsection (3) of the Anti-Corruption Act number 3 of 2012 of the laws of Zambia.

This is in a matter where Mr. Mwamba, when he was Minister of Defence between 2012 and 2013 failed to disclose his interest in writing on Three Zambia Army contracts and Five Zambia Air Force contracts that were awarded to Curzon Global Limited by the Ministry of Defence.

It is alleged that the said Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba had interest in the same company.- Daily Nation

The President owes no one a job – Laura Miti

By Kombe Mataka

ACTIVIST Laura Miti says she is amazed by how many people are expecting to get jobs from President Hakainde Hichilema because they worked to ensure there is change of government.
Miti said when she featured on ZNBC’s Sunday Interview Programme that it was unfortunate that some people were even angry, bitter and vowed they would have the President removed in 2026 because they did not get a job.
“What seems to amaze is the number of people that feel they should have jobs because UPND is in government. Which trenches? The point is you cannot demand a job. None of us deserve a job. What we should all expect when we have a new government is that they should improve the conditions for the majority. Improve education, improve employment. One person cannot say ‘I should get a job so that my family should live well’. We even have the general public saying ’that one was not rewarded’. Why should they be rewarded? The President owes no one a job. The President should appoint the best of us as citizens. Some of them never did nothing and just lived their lives but they are the best,” Miti said. “Let us work hard to ensure the bottom is lifted and so that there is less hunger and more employment.
I am one of those people who the day I die people will be saying ‘ata, that is me!’ You know how we laugh at people when they die. We laugh at how they did not have anything.”
And Miti said it was not true that she was propagating gay rights to get funding.
“I am not pushing for gay rights. To have gay rights you have to put them in the Constitution. I don’t think we should. I don’t think we are ready. If you look at the Western constitutions it took them 100 years to get to a point where they could put gay rights in the constitution. My point is we must not put people in jail. Let us make small movements. By small movements, for me is you cannot break down hotel rooms. All the people who go in prison they had private relationships. It is two consenting adults doing what they are doing. All I ask for is they should not be put in jail,” she said. “So we should change the law and not make this criminal. Let us decriminalise it. I could never be paid to say something I don’t believe in. For me I don’t pursue wealth. I don’t want to be rich. I don’t just have a kind of mind. Let me tell you what we should be dealing with which breaks my heart. Sex problem we have in the country is non-consensual sex – young girls and even girls of the age of consent routinely have sex they don’t want because they are looking for a job. Because they are trying to enter the police and hierarchical offices. We have girls raped by their uncles, raped by their parents and issues are being resolved at home because we seem to understand a man having sex whenever he wants to. We have so many broken people.”
Miti added: “What I am saying is as a country, we are very myopic. The things that affect us like poverty, the issues of extreme abuse of girls, especially young police officers, we are not dealing with this…instead of putting people in jail.”
Miti warned the UPND should not dare Zambians because they were more alert after their experience with the PF.
“The UPND had better not mess with this public, it is much more alert. It is much more inquiring and the reason for this is those scandals that we went through,” she said.
Miti said civil society players must not seek recognition.
“Civil society leaders are never meant to become heroes or heroines. They shouldn’t be. It is a bit of a problem. I cannot be running around thinking of myself as a hero. I have a job and I have a space within which to do it and that is what it is. It is not building heroes. It is more important to build a country that can speak for itself, analyse issues, and hold government to account but in terms of whether we become friends with those in office, I would not say so,” she said. “The current government I don’t know whether it is a friend of civil society to the extent that we cannot speak about them. Nothing has changed for me in the way I engage this government with the last. The only difference is this government does not throw out scandals everyday as we had in the last seven years. In the last seven years, it was firefighting every single day. Asking that the civil society should be standing on a hill and screaming when there is no problem is problematic.”
Miti, who has been appoint commissioner of the Human Rights Commission, said the position is the best anyone in civil society can be appointed to because it is not a job.
“It is not a salary position. If you remember, the Human Rights Commission was the strongest remaining voices that were able to hold the last government to account. We had FIC (Financial Intelligence Centre) and the Auditor General reports. A commissioner is like you…You get your commission from your day’s job. You do not swear allegiance to the President. The President should not expect you to have allegiance to him or anyone in government. The only reason I accepted that position was because it absolutely does not in any way interfere to think, my ability to do what I believe is my job right now,” she said. “It is on the demand side; it is not on the supply side. You are not government. If this government is at all imagining that it will be allowed to harm the nation it will not. And it will not because of them or us, it will be because the nation is larger than us. If anyone in power begins to harm the nation they must account.”
Asked how she reacted to criticism from people bordering on her personal life, Miti said, “I don’t know what people say about me”.
“I just don’t go beyond my page and so it took me time to understand how far what I write goes. In my mind I write for a small audience and then people will take them and spread them. I almost never follow them. I am in a very few WhatsApp groups. I am put in a WhatsApp group and I leave,” said Miti. “On my page I just don’t allow people that would go for my person or attack someone’s person. I block them immediately. My page is very interactive. You find some very intellectual debates. The reason why that is possible is because people can disagree about the topic. For me there are two things that don’t define me, that don’t affect me – praise and criticism. I believe that as a country we must speak about things that affect us together.”

Talking Inflation With Alexander Nkosi

TALKING INFLATION WITH ALEXANDER NKOSI

By Alexander Nkosi

An economy is like a patient. As you administer medication to a patient, it is important to keep the vitals like temperature and BP stable. Having these vitals stable does not mean the patient who has so many complications is healed. Similarly, an economy requires maintaining a supply of money that is in tandem with the level of production. If one of the two is way higher than the other, it creates a problem.

I have observed that when inflation rate drops, people want to see a reduction in the prices of goods and services. A drop in inflation rate does not mean prices are reducing, it simply means prices are increasing at a decreasing rate. A simple example is: John Banda jumps on a bus from Lusaka to Livingstone and forgets his wallet at home and you jump on a taxi to go and meet him. When the bus is moving at 100km/hour, you will catch it in Monze and spend K1500 on the taxi you hired. However, if the bus reduces speed to 30Km/ hour, you will find it in Kafue and only pay K400. A reduction in speed of the bus does not mean it stops moving or turns back to meet you, it simply means it is still moving except not as fast as it was. When you catch it in Kafue and spend K400, you will feel bad and say it is meaningless for the bus to reduce speed if you still have to spend K400, but you will only appreciate this when you think of the K1500 you would have spent had it been moving at 100km/ hour. Inflation is also like this.

Hon. Miles Sampa wants government to increase expenditure so as to put more money into the economy and stimulate economic activities. While the logic is fine, government has to source this money the right way. This is why government wants debt restructured so as to release money to pay arrears and dismantle domestic debt. In the absence of this, expenditure has to be financed by heavy borrowing. What does this do? It worsen the same problems we are trying to address. We basically had a decade of expansionary fiscal policy that hasn’t left us better off, this is why balance is important.

Debt restructuring will release funds to invest in economic sectors. It will also reduce government borrowing thereby allowing the private sector to borrow at lower rates. This will lead to an increase in productivity, help firms attain economies of scale and keep prices of goods and services affordable to Zambians. This is what Hon. Sampa wants to see, and the truth is government is also working towards this but in a prudent and sustainable manner.

Thank you and see you back home soon!

we expected HH to freeze all judicial positions – Chifire

By Oliver Chisenga

THE Judiciary has for a long time been choking the justice delivery system, says Southern Africa Network against Corruption (SANAC) executive director Gregory Chifire.

Commenting on the removal of Sunday Nkonde from the office of judge of the High Court, Chifire said the country is confident that there shall soon be change in the Judiciary.

“Actually, we expected the President to go the Kenya route where all the positions in the Judiciary were frozen and fresh applications called. However, whatever route is taken as long as it bears fruits is welcome,” he said.

Last Friday, President Hakainde Hichilema, acting on recommendations contained in a report presented to him by the Judicial Complaints Commission, removed Nkonde from the office of judge of the High Court of Zambia.
Chifire described the process that President Hichilema has started to cleanse the Judiciary by removing erring judges as a step in the right direction.

Chifire has been in exile since the Supreme Court sentenced him to six-years imprisonment on charges of contempt in November 2018 but was recently pardoned by President Hichilema.
He had called for an investigation into potential judicial corruption involving one of the largest banks in the country and it is believed he was targeted as a result of this.

While welcoming Nkonde’s removal as judge, Chifire however said his prayer was that more would be done.
“Actually we expected the President to go the Kenya route where all the positions in the judiciary were frozen and fresh applications called. However, whatever route is taken as long as it bears fruits is welcome. And we are confident that in no time, there shall be change in the judiciary,” Chifire said. “It is an open secret that the happenings in the judiciary don’t inspire confidence. There is too much corruption in the judiciary to such an extent that judgments are either for sale or delivered on political lines. Some of us know these things.”
Chifire alleged that some judges and magistrates use cleaners, court clerks, marshals, interpreters, secretaries, and others to solicit bribes.
He added that some judges were promoted on partisan lines.

“And we know them. As such, we can’t continue to have such a Judiciary. Zambia needs to start breathing again. The Judiciary has for a long time been choking the justice delivery system. A society cannot survive with a compromised judiciary such as the one we currently have. We need speedy judicial reforms. That is the only way that will bring back public confidence in the judiciary,” he said.
Chifire said judicial officers must be above reproach.

“But in the recent past, we have seen rogue magistrates and judges. We have heard of magistrates and judges soliciting bribes from suspects. We have heard rumours of magistrates and judges receiving gratifications from parties involved in a case. This is extremely disheartening,” he said.

Chifire said time had come for the restoration of dignity in Zambia’s courts.
He said Zambians are yearning for judicial, constitutional, electoral and other reforms.
“That is one of the reasons why Zambians voted for change. They wanted change in every sphere of governance. Every effort to achieve that purpose such as the one that the President has embarked upon is welcome,” said Chifire.

Zambia could be next country to take UK’s illegal Channel migrants

0

The Telegraph in UK reports that Zambia may be the next country to take UK asylum seekers after “expressing an interest” in the Government’s Rwanda scheme.

The southern African state is said by government and Border Force sources to be “potentially interested”.

However, it is waiting to see how the £120 million agreement to remove migrants from the UK to claim asylum in Rwanda works.

A source familiar with the programme said: “There are one or two countries, like Zambia, who are potentially interested. They will wait and see what happens in Rwanda before deciding whether it is worthwhile and the political ramifications of it.”

Court action to block Rwanda deportation

The disclosure came as the charities Care4Calais and Detention Action – as well as the Public and Commercial Services (PCS), which represents Border Force staff – launched a court bid to block the Rwanda deportation plans and injunct the first flights on June 14.

They are challenging both the policy and the removal of four of the migrants as unlawful on multiple grounds, including breaches of their human rights.

As well as breaches of the migrants’ human rights, they also claim it was irrational for Priti Patel, the Home Secretary, to claim Rwanda was a “safe third country” and that she had failed to “make provision for malaria prevention in Rwanda”.

Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the PCS union, said: “’PCS is not prepared to countenance our members being put in potentially dangerous and traumatic situations, where they may be asked to act illegally.”

But a Tory source said: “They have no alternative to stop these deadly Channel crossings and it’s a shame to see members of the Labour party standing with them.”

More than 90 of the 130 migrants due to be removed to Rwanda next week have already lodged legal challenges.

Officials expect all to have submitted challenges by the end of the week.

Government sources admitted that there was a “very high” risk the legal action could scupper the June 14 flights.

However, one said: “It will go, even if there is just one person left on it, because we will already have paid for it at that point.

We will take on the legal action. It is just whether a judge grants an injunction. We cannot do anything until the injunction has been dealt with.”

Zambia a destination for many refugees

Under the Rwanda deal, the UK has agreed to pay the east African country £120 million and foot the £12,000 bill for sending each migrant on a one-way flight there.

The Government was in talks with two other countries, Albania and Ghana, to take migrants from the UK.

However, the disclosure of the negotiations led to them withdrawing, amid fears of a political and public backlash.

The Zambian embassy was contacted two weeks ago by The Telegraph but has so far not responded to requests for comment.

Zambia is, however, a major location for refugees. It hosts more than 100,000, largely from Congo and Burundi.

Filippo Grandi, the United Nations high commissioner for refugees, praised Zambia’s generosity towards refugees in 2019, after witnessing its “progressive” approach – including finding work for new arrivals.

Tom Pursglove, a Home Office minister, last month said of the Rwanda deal: “I doubt it will be the last of those sorts of agreements that are reached involving countries around the world.”

David Neal, chief inspector of borders and immigration, told MPs that he had not met Ms Patel since starting his job 14 months ago and had six scheduled meetings with her cancelled.

He also disclosed that the Home Office was sitting on six of his reports, including one on Channel small boat crossings.

Woman reveals she has to bath four times a day because she has a rare condition that makes her smell like fish

A 41-year-old woman identified as Kelly Fidoe-White has revealed that she has a rare condition which makes her smell like fish.

Kelly said she noticed this from the age of six, but did not discover the true cause until the age of 34. She revealed that she has to take four showers a day to mask her odour.

The Sun reported that the senior radiographer from Oldham, Manchester, has lived her entire life with trimethylaminuria (TMAU); a disorder more commonly known as “fish-odour syndrome”.

The condition is so rare it has only been recorded 100 times in medical records, according to the National Organization for Rare Disorders.

However some medical professionals believe the real figure may be much higher and other sources put it at around 200.

People suffering with TMAU regularly produce a range of strong bodily odours with examples including rotten fish, onion and faeces.

Kelly first noticed her urine would smell like fish at the age of six, and when puberty kicked in years later, she began to develop a prominent body odour beyond her toilet visits. “People call it a curse, and I can see why,” Kelly told NeedToKnow.online.

She also disclosed that she has suffered decades of name-calling and finding ways to cope with her symptoms.

She changes her uniform twice a day and uses whole cans of deodorant to cover the scent. At one point, her mum was forced to visit her work with a fresh pair of clothes after someone complained to management about her smell.

Kelly said;

“As a healthcare professional, to be asked if you know you should be using soap when you wash, is really upsetting.”

In a bid to curb the smell, Kelly said she would shower up to four times a day. But unknown to her at the time, this only sought to make her natural perfume worse.

Kelly said;

“It has absolutely nothing to do with personal hygiene.

“I could wash every hour of every day and it would only be a short term fix.

“In fact, it is common for sufferers to smell worse after a shower because the pores open more due to the warm water.

“Your first thought is that it is BO [body odour]. So you wash more, use stronger soaps, wash your clothes using soda crystals, apply more perfume and body spray – all of which makes it worse.

“I ultimately learned that the skin needs to remain at its natural pH of 5.5 as acid breaks down TMAU as it comes through the skin – soaps, bleach and soda crystals are generally alkali.”

People noticing the scent has at times left Kelly housebound, as well as moving to night shifts and the radiographer also suffers from bouts of depression.

She said;

“It’s isolating because you don’t want to offend people with the smell so you are constantly thinking, ‘Am I sweaty? Am I over-warm? That person is coughing, is that because of me?’

“If you let it, the condition can begin to take over your thoughts.

“I developed severe hyper-vigilance over people’s reactions to the smell.

“The worst part is feeling like you’re going crazy from it.”

There is no cure for TMAU but avoiding certain foods and supplementing specific nutrient levels can lessen the symptoms, which can fluctuate over time

Over the years, Kelly, who got a diagnosis in 2015, has found unique ways to improve the symptoms, such as adopting a reduced choline diet. She avoids foods such as liver, kidney, beans, peanuts and cruciferous vegetables as they are all rich in choline.

Kelly has also undergone therapy and counselling for the decades of bullying she has experienced, and claims trolls body shamed her by saying the scent was due to her weight.

She said;

“It has nothing to do with weight, which was thrown at me a lot.

“In fact, my smell was worst when I was at my lightest.

“Currently I believe I am relatively symptom-free.

“This is due to a combination of supplements scientifically selected to reduce TMA production and boost TMA oxidisation and some lifestyle modifications.

“I want to give a voice to my fellow sufferers, who suffer in silence because of the stigma attached to BO.

“People are generally scared to speak up for fear of being ridiculed.

“Unfortunately when people do it can be difficult to get specialist treatment as the smell is often intermittent and GPs tend to not refer based on the individuals testimony alone.

“I have found a community online, which is substantial.”

Johnny Depp’s lawyers say he might waive Amber Heard’s $8million judgement now that his reputation has been restored as they slam her claims the trial was unfair

0

Johnny Depp’s attorneys on Wednesday morning, June 8, appeared on several shows to slam his ex-wife, Amber Heard’s claims the trial was unfair after she lost the high profile case.

Camille Vasquez and Benjamin Chew appeared on TODAY, Good Morning America, and then on the Law and Crime network, where they said the actor is considering waiving Amber Heard’s $8million judgment now that his reputation has been restored.

They told how happy Johnny now was to have won the case and that he ‘hasn’t smiled like this in six years’ when his problems with Heard began.

They also slammed Heard’s claim that she lost the trial because he is more powerful and popular than she is, saying it’s ‘utterly false’ that social media played a part and claiming the jury simply didn’t like her because she unlike Johnny ‘didn’t take accountability for anything.’

The pair then suggested that he might even waive the $8million judgement Amber was ordered to pay him. Her attorneys said she can’t afford it and yesterday revealed plans to file an appeal.

Asked whether or not they would waive the judgement, Depp’s attorneys said: ‘This was never about money for Mr. Depp. This was about restoring his reputation and he’s done that.

‘We have to be careful what we say but this was about Mr. Depp’s reputation but that was what it was about for him.’

‘My sense is that it had a lot to do with accountability. Johnny owned his issues, he was very candid about his alcohol and drug issues, he was candid about some unfortunate texts that he wrote, and I think it was a sharp contrast to Ms Heard, who didn’t seem… or at least the jury may have perceived that she didn’t take accountability for anything,’ said Chew.

He added later: ‘There was a real contrast. Johnny took ownership of a lot of things…

‘She had an answer for everything and she wasn’t taking accountability for anything. I think that made a difference.’

Vasquez added: ‘The key to victory was focusing on the facts and the evidence and Johnny’s opportunity to speak the truth for the first time. He was able to connect with the jury and the general public and tell what really happened.’

On Tuesday, Heard’s attorneys released a statement slamming Depp’s team’s ‘victory lap’ since the trial ended, saying they are collectively setting back women’s rights.

On Wednesday, Depp’s attorneys said that wasn’t the case and that the facts speak for themselves.

‘It’s disappointing. We’re only speaking about what happened in this case and the facts in this case were overwhelming positive for Johnny.

‘The verdict speaks for itself,’ Vasquez said on Good Morning America.

On TODAY, she told Savannah Guthrie: ‘I mean frankly… we’re here to talk about the case that we tried.

‘We encourage all victims to come forward, have their day in court, which is exactly what happened in this case.

‘Domestic violence doesn’t have a gender,’ she added later.

They also insisted that social media – where Johnny was the clear favorite – played ‘no role whatsoever’ in the verdict.

‘My view is that social media played no role whatsoever this was a decision made by the jury on the evidence. It was overwhelmingly in Depp’s favor,’ said Chew.

Johnny, they said, is ‘over the moon’ and now feels like the ‘weight of the world’ has been lifted from his shoulders.

‘I was speaking with another friend of ours, a mutual friend of Johnny’s and ours and ‘he said, “I haven’t seen Johnny smile like that in six years,”‘ said Vasquez, who has been promoted as a result of her performance at the trial.

She said she hoped her newfound fame will inspire young girls to stay in school and pursue legal careers.

‘It’s been overwhelming and surreal but [if] I can encourage young women to stay in school and maybe inspire them to pursue a legal career, then it is all worth it.’

Heard’s lawyer previously claimed there was a mountain of evidence that would have supported their case that didn’t make it into the courtroom.

‘It was horrible. It was really, really lop sided. It’s like the Roman coliseum, how they viewed this whole case,’ Elaine Bredehof said in an appearance on TODAY last week.

End of The Road As ANC NEC To Ask Cyril To Resign

In what would be tremendously shocking, speculation is swirling that the ANC‘s highest decision body between conferences – the national executive committee (NEC) – could be set to take an unprecedented move by requesting President Cyril Ramaphosa to step aside indefinitely.

According to a certain Dr. Phomolo who happens to be privy to ANC internal matters, the party’s highest structure has seemingly been placed between a rock a hard place.

This is in the wake of the damning allegations made by former Prisons, Arthur Fraser, who laid a criminal complaint against the president in relation to an alleged robbery that took place at his Phala Phala game farm.

South Africans, including some political opportunists have been asking a myriad of questions as it relates to the matter, and some of these questions have proven to be quite difficult for the President to provide adequately sufficient answers to exonerate himself.

And the ANC has been rocked by this scandal which in many ways exposes the fact that the rot potentially starts from the head.

At this point in time, there is no substantial evidence to confirm nor deny Dr Phomolo’s claim regarding the ANC’s position on matter.

The prospect of the NEC calling for the President to step aside indefinitely is quite incomprehensible by any stretch of imagination

The structure is said to be dominated by those who are aligned to the president, and many of them have unwaveringly demonstrated their support for him to contest for a 2nd term.

However, given the ANC’s history of demonstrating that there are no permanent friends in politics, and that time and space are all that matters, some NEC members with a keen interest in potentially gaining positions at the ANC’s 55th national elective conference in December, may not hesitate to throw Cyril under the bus.

In my perspective, the ANC’s desire for the president to step aside under no uncertain circumstances, so that he can properly subject himself to relevant investigations by various bodies, makes a lot of sense.

In any case, he has agreed to cooperate with relevant law enforcement agencies in order to clear his name.

Do you think considering that Ramaphosa has had the backing of the NEC, they could abruptly turn against him & ask him to resign or step aside?

Nollywood Actor Yul Edochie Explains Why He Impregnated Another Woman

A son to veteran Nollywood Actor Pete Edochie, Yul has come with an explanation on his decision to impregnate and marry second wife despite being in a health marriage with his wife of 17 years.

In a Facebook video the actor shared, narrated that he was unable to let Judy Justin go because she had already impacted his life positively.

Yul continued that despite a popular opinion that a man cannot love two women at once, he found himself in a controversy that he fell in love with his wife May and his colleague Judy at the same time.

“I have heard from people that a man can’t love two women at the same time. I used to believe it until it happened to me, I realized that never say never. At this point in my life, I think it is possible for a man to love two women,” he said.

“Two women can be in your life and bring different things to your life. They reason in different ways, they contribute different things to your life, and make you realise that is just the way it is.”

The former presidential aspirant also admitted that allowing another woman into his life during his first marriage was wrong.

“Yes it’s wrong, I take the blame for that. Things happened, it happened to me and I realized I couldn’t let this woman leave my life.

“You may say the circumstances are wrong, but these things happen, and then you realize you can’t let this person go. This person has a lot of impact on your life, you don’t want this person to go,” he added.

Yul Edochie shares fun moment with first wife in video post

Speaking of his two wives, Edochie called them “wonderful women in their respective rights” as they both bring “different things to the table.”

The actor caused a stir on the Internet in April, after announcing his second marriage to colleague, Judy Austin, adding that she already had a son for him.

His first wife, May, had reacted to the news by calling on God’s judgement upon the new couple.

UPND INFLICTING MORE PAIN THAN PF, CALLER ELVIS TELLS KAUNDA

UPND INFLICTING MORE PAIN THAN PF, CALLER ELVIS TELLS KAUNDA

…..as SP Chairperson for Youth and Security says his party will lead the nation on the terms of citizens when in power

LUSAKA, Wednesday, June 8, 2022 (Smart Eagles)

SOCIALIST Party (SP) National Chairperson for Youth and Security Kelvin Kaunda has heard the cries of citizens regarding how the UPND is running the affairs of the country.

Mr Kaunda, who featured on 5FM’s “Burning Issue” yesterday, heard from Elvis during the phone in segment that the UPND government lied its way into power.

He reminded Zambians that UPND lied about ministers not driving VXs as promised prior to last year’s elections.

The caller bemoaned the escalated cost of living under the watch of the New Dawn Administration.

“You see Mr Kaunda; you are speaking very well. Let no one dictate to you how to speak to this government. I heard someone saying you are dealing with an enlightened voter; we are very enlightened this time. We are not going to deal with lies this time,” he said.

“…they lied when they are in opposition in order to come into government. They told us they will not be driving VXs when they come into power, they said they will be driving Vitz. Today they are driving new ama motoka, ama VXm ama Nissan Patrol….”

Elvis accused UPND of inflicting more pain than the PF on citizens.

He added that the Soialist Party is a force to reckon with as he stressed the need for a strong voice “like yours, the strong voice of Dr Fred M’membe, the strong voice of the opposition.”

“This is the government which has become so intolerant to views, especially divergent views. Praise singers want you to say good things when you are experiencing bad things in this government. Today the socialist party is the force to reckon with…This government has even failed to provide clean water in my area.”

In response, Mr Kaunda said SP will lead the country on the terms of the citizens.

“We will lead the country on the terms of our people, not our terms. If we are going to borrow, we should be able to tell our people that these are the conditions which have been prescribed. Let’s get the critical voice of our people involved as we make some of these decisions because they affect our people at the end of the day,” he said.

“From where we stand, the foreign investors cannot resolve our challenges….it is we ourselves, and the earlier we begin to appreciate that fact the better for all of us. The IMF program, it is not the first time, we tried it. Will it change the narrative now? No! you may change the DJ but the music is the same.”

Pastor allegedly plotted to kill thousands of Black South Africans with poisoned water

A pastor who allegedly plotted to overthrow the South African government and also kill thousands of the country’s Black population was on Monday convicted. According to The Associated Press, a South African court found Harry Johannes Knoesen guilty of high treason, incitement to carry out violent attacks, and recruiting people to commit attacks.

Prosecutors said the 61-year-old leader of the National Christian Resistance Movement and his group considered killing Black South Africans by infecting them with a biological weapon. One of the methods they explored included putting poison inside reservoirs that supplied water to Black communities, prosecutors added.

The court also found Knoesen guilty of unlawful possession of firearms. Investigators found weapons in his possession at the time of his arrest. South African police and intelligence thwarted the group in 2019. Some leaders of the group were also arrested, and the organization’s cells in multiple locations across the country have since been immobilized.

Jailed members of Knoesen’s group took the stand to provide evidence for his eventual conviction. The members are serving time for similar offenses.

Prosecutors claimed that Knoesen’s schemes were spurred by his “highly racial views”, adding that he wanted to use his religion as a basis for his actions. Prosecutors also said Knoesen claimed he had been ordained to “reclaim South Africa for white people”, per The Associated Press.

“To further this end, he planned to attack government institutions and more specifically police and military institutions,” a spokeswoman for the National Prosecuting Authority, Monica Nyuswa, told the news outlet.

Nyuswa also said Knoesen selected townships and informal settlements that had Black residents as locations to attack.

The convicted pastor allegedly used Facebook to encourage people to commit acts of violence against Black people. He also allegedly used the social media platform to get people who had served in the South African military to join his group and execute the attacks.

Knoesen also reportedly took the stand and admitted to taking to Facebook to share “recipes” on how to make explosives. This isn’t the first incident of such nature to be foiled by South African authorities.

A South African court in 2013 convicted 20 members of the right-wing White supremacy group, Boeremag, after their plans to overthrow the government and kill the country’s first Black President Nelson Mandela, were foiled.

The trial, which took 10 years, was one of the longest trials in South Africa’s history, The Associated Press reported. Their sentences ranged from five to 35 years.

And just like Knoesen’s, the group wasn’t in favor of South Africa transitioning to democracy after ending apartheid. Proceedings for Knoesen’s sentencing will start on June 10.

God Will Fight For GBM – Emmanuel Chilekwa

GOD WILL FIGHT FOR GBM – CHILEKWA

Scribe Emmanuel Chilekwa writes:

As we traverse through this life, we come across good and bad people. And one GBM is a good man, a very good friend and a wonderful leader with open hands for all.

Like any human being, he may have his own weaknesses but loving people, helping the oppressed and supporting mankind are some of his obvious strengths.

I personally can vouch for GBM as a good caring parent and friend for I do remember how he cared for me at my weakest point. He is a truly good man no sane person would wish him bad fortune at all. GBM has zero procrastination when it comes to helping mankind, big or small – he is ready to render a hand, in good faith.

GBM has never traversed a route one would say is free of trials or injustice – he has seen it all. And one thing you can never take away from him is that many mean people take advantage of his goodness.

When they couldn’t do alms and generosity that God has gifted one GBM, he is used as a stepping stone. GBM comes from royalty where they’re used to sharing and spreading goodness – he never eats alone, he cares for people, he’s a friend and compassionate parent and leader.

For GBM, there’s no trial he has never takled and there’s no barrier he has never overcome – be it in political or economic realm. His greatest strength is that he believes in himself and helping his community is a passionate call on his heart.

When PF founder late Michael Chilufya Sata found himself in financial fix when he was leaving South Africa, it was GBM who threw himself into the fray to save Sata. He’s such a man who never shies away from tough situations. He’s no coward.

GBM, fondly known as Ba shi Chilekwa, has an open home. He, like my late father B.Y Mwila, never have any meal where they are alone – everyday, their meals are buffet arrangement because people never cease to be around them. Even in dire straights, GBM and B.Y were people-centric 24/7.

Acting PF President Given Lubinda Explains why he isn’t constantly meeting with former party President Edgar Lungu
…says doing so would unnecessarily link Lungu to active politics
By Staff Reporter
8th June 2022
Hon. Given Lubinda has reduced the amount of time he spends with former President Edgar Lungu because doing so would unnecessarily associate the former head of state to “active politics” in a Capital Radio Interview with veteran broadcaster Frank Mutubila.
Hon. Lubinda said President Lungu has “made it clear” on several fora that he has retired from active politics therefore it is best to let him rest and not burden him with politics constantly.

The former Minister of Justice in a reflective tone, however, said he wished he could meet the former leader who is also his friend more often.

“I wish I could spend more time with him (former President Edgar Lungu),” Hon Lubinda said, “but for many reasons we don’t spend that much time together.”

One of the reasons according to Hon Lubinda is that “I don’t want to create an impression that he (President Lungu) is still active in politics.”
However, Hon Lubinda nostalgically said, “whenever we have met we have spent quality time together discussing politics, national and international.”

Mr Lubinda said, “we have also discussed PF politics we discuss. Sometimes I ask him which people we should engage as we go forward but I can safely say he is out of active PF politics, and we don’t want to bother him with that.”
Mr Lubinda said it is important for party politics not to be couched around the BMS or “Big Man Syndrome” who finances or becomes the “nexus” of the party when he was asked whether President Lungu would finance the planned PF conference that would elect someone to take over from President Lungu following his retirement after last August’s polls.

Below are some major take backs from the interview:
• Unlike MMD and UNIP that were formed as a movement one to champion the return iof multi party politics after years of UNIP and the first to remove the colonial leadership, PF was formed solely as an opposition party and therefore stands a chance of returning to power at some point as discontent among Zambians grow from the hardships of the current UPND government
• Hon Lubinda will not “impose” himself on the Pf leadership mantle and shall, as acting leader allow the party rank and file to elect the next leader

• Hon Lubinda does not mind the fact that several names or people have come up and shown interest in the party leadership saying the development is good for party democracy instead of stifling others
• Hon Lubinda said he is concerned that despite the PF and other’s having reported the UPND for the fertiliser scandal where the government singled sourced expensive fertiliser for $1500 per tonne compared to the previous administration sourcing the commodity at $700 per tonne to ACC, nothing has happened

• Hon Lubinda described the administration of the K25 million CDF as “shambolic” which wont work unless the red tape is c
• I was shocked when I arrived at Woodlands police station 60 or more armed police today during the arrest of former Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba whom he was not even allowed to visit

• “I wondered why a person charged with corruption was attracting heavily armed police presence. What impression are we creating, have we turned into a police state? Hon Lubinda asked.

• Hon Lubinda said the PF is currently in the process of incorporating fresh faces in the midst of old ones, but the intention is not to completely erase party leaders from the past

• He said the central committee will increase its membership to 80 from 56.
• Hon Lubinda expressed concern yet again at the amount of contempt and disrespect Chief government spokesperson Chushi Kasanda spewed on President Lungu following his absence at the KK Wing of the Mulungushi Conference Centre recently saying the former head of state had a right to choose which public function to attend or not, just like President Hakainde Hichilema aka Sammy Bally did in opposition.
• He called on Bally to invite President Lungu for cordial chat where the two can chat as brothers just like President Lungu extended and shared tea with Mr Hichilema during his stay in office.

President HH is a puppet of the western countries-Fred M’membe

The opposition Socialist Party has insisted that President Hakainde Hichilema is a puppet of the western countries.

Socialist Party leader Fred M’membe recently accused President Hichilema of being a puppet of the west.

Dr. M’membe’s accusations against the Head of State were criticised by United Party for National Development (UPND) deputy National Chairman Andrew Banda.

Mr. Banda, the eldest son of the late former President Rupiah Bwezani Banda, argued that President Hichilema was not a puppet of the west.

He said President Hichilema was a genuine Head of State elected by millions of Zambians.

The Socialist Party (S.P) has, however, issued a follow up statement insisting that allowing AFRICOM base called ‘office’ in Zambia would constitute not only an unacceptable violation of the country’s sovereignty.

SP Copperbelt Provincial Spokesperson Joseph Kangwa said Mr. Banda is defending President Hichilema because he is seeking a job from the New Dawn government.

“Calling President Hakainde Hichilema a puppet of the west is not disrespecting the people who voted for him as opposed to United Party for National Development (UPND) deputy national chairperson, Mr Andrew Banda’s sentimental statement published on 02 June, 2022 in the Zambia Daily Mail newspaper. Contrary to Mr Banda’s view, Dr Fred M’membe has no history of disparaging Zambian presidents; he just calls a spade a spade. You do not need to be in the opposition party to know that President Hichilema is a puppet of the west, but we understand Mr Banda’s predicament as he may have also been a puppet of the late Presidents during his service in the foreign mission under the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD). Being part of the privatization of the Zambian Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM) in 1997 which resulted in millions of Zambian people losing their jobs, and triggered the periods of intense economic turmoil that engulfed the Copperbelt and Zambia from 1997 hitherto, and allowing the American government to open its U.S. Africa Command in Zambia is evident enough to tell that Mr Hakainde Hichilema is indeed a petty bourgeoisie and a puppet of the west. However, It can only take a genuine leader to see that, not a simpleton person,” Mr. Kangwa said.

He said President Hichilema is driving the agenda of the capitalists at the expense of the majority suffering Zambians thereby putting the country’s sovereignty at great risk.

“That said, it is imperative to answer some of Mr Banda’s questions. “If HH is a puppet, then who is a leader, is Fred himself a leader?” He asked. In simple terms; a leader is a servant of a group of people having authority to lead or direct and do what is best for them and the country. A puppet is a person controlled by another. In this case, President HH is the puppet of the West in the sense that he is driving the agenda of the capitalists at the expense of the majority suffering Zambians thereby putting our sovereignty at great risk.On the contrary, Comrade M’membe is the living legendary of Zambia. He is a beacon of democracy and free press we are enjoying today. Dr M’membe played a key role in the revolution of one party state to multiparty democracy. Since then He has always been in the forefront in the transformation from one government to another,” Mr. Kangwa said.

He continued:”Mr Banda and UPND should know that allowing AFRICOM base called ‘office’ in Zambia would constitute not only an unacceptable violation of our country’s sovereignty, but the whole Africa. It would be an insult of the highest degree to the devoted men and women who sacrificed to death until they brought independence to Zambia. Mr Banda and his superior should ask themselves a question as to why president Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, his father the late president Rupiah Bwezani Banda, the late president Michael Chilufya Sata and Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu refused that request. And why the former South African president Thabo Mbeki mobilised the African leaders by that time to oppose the move.”

Mr. Kangwa said President Hichilema should always protect and defend Zambia and it’s sovereignty.

“If President Hichilema is a puppet, why did Zambians vote for him?” Mr Banda questioned. Well, the truth is that Mr HH is the first and most unpopular person to have been elected as President in our history. Approximately 50 per cent of the 2.8 million people UPND have been bragging about voted for HH out of frustration as people got fed up with the Patriotic Front(PF) government and because HH was the only one close. Others voted for him out of sympathy of him losing five times. Otherwise, he was never a choice of all those 2.8 voters. That is probably the reason Mr Banda admitted that some people still cannot believe that HH is the Republican President and it is clear that Mr Banda is among those people even though he intentionally could not admit it.

“The advice of the Socialist Party under the able and competent leadership of Dr Fred M’membe who has lived his whole life defending our country’s democracy and its sovereignty is that the UPND should respect the Zambian people who entrusted their whole future to lead them, not to death but to freedom and abundant life. And President HH should always remember that he had sworn to protect and defend at all cost the Zambian Constitution and sovereignty of our country as such, we do not expect him to do the opposite. The people have the power,” Mr. Kangwa concluded.

HH, ACT ON THIS MAHOGANY AIR SAGA …your own cadre has supplied you air – Davies Chama

By Ernest Chanda

PF NATIONAL chairperson Davies Chama has challenged President Hakainde Hichilema to act on the Mahogany Airline saga where government chartered a plane for US $275,000 without receiving a service.
He said the ruling UPND are dealers, “and deceptions and lies are manifesting themselves to make sure that the truth will always come out. God is exposing them in a bigger way.”

On Friday last week, the Ministry of Sport was frantically organising a plane to carry the Zambia national team players back home immediately after their game against Ivory Coast on the night of the same day.
This was after Mahogany Airline chief executive officer Dr Jim Belemu went mute after being paid a full US $275,000 a couple of days before the day of departure, a service that he failed to provide.

The 120-seater plane was to carry sports minister Elvis Nkandu, his permanent secretary Kangwa Chileshe, director of sport John Zulu, FAZ general secretary Adrian Kashala, a number of government officials and supporters including journalists to Yamoussoukro where Zambia dated Cote d’ Ivoire in the AfCON qualifier match which kicked off at 21:00 hours. Zambia lost 3-1.

The team was supposed to return immediately after the match in good time for a second encounter against the Comoros billed for Heroes Stadium in Lusaka today.

The plane was scheduled to depart Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Thursday at 20:00 hours but time kept changing until Dr Belemu’s phone could no longer be reached from midnight till Friday morning, leaving the travelling party in suspense and resulting in all of them spending a night in the freezing Kenneth Kaunda International Airport premises.

Nkandu and Chileshe then took the matter into their own hands as time was desperately running out on them and made contacts and finally managed to find a much bigger 250-seater plane through Proflight which was costing US $225,000.
Dr Belemu’s 120-seater plane was even more expensive by $70,000.

Later on Saturday, Dr Belemu disputed the amount indicated by Nkandu and Kangwa while attributing the non-delivery of service to a fault on his plane.
“I have observed so many gaps and incorrect reported statements from the media. I don’t even know where the amount stated in the media as payment to us is coming from as it is incorrect. Perhaps it will be interesting to know how the amount mentioned was arrived at,” said Dr Belemu. “We have always conducted such assignments both within the country and in other neighbouring countries, sometimes in difficult and tight situations. We also prioritise the confidentiality on movements of national team and its officials. We always prioritise integrity in whatever services we do and we remain focused.”

But Chama said President Hichilema should tell the nation what his government will do about “their own supplier who has supplied air”.
“They have been saying PF allowed people who supplied air. This is what this government has been complaining about to the Zambian people. They accused suppliers under our government of supplying air. And now their own cadre Belemu has supplied air at a time when we have no resources in the economy,” Chama said. “I am challenging President Hakainde Hichilema to tell the nation what he will do to his permanent secretaries at Cabinet Office who processed and approved this payment. How do you spend $275,000 to just go and watch football for 90 minutes and you come back? The President should tell the nation what he will do about this scandal where his own government pays money to someone who does not deliver. Are they going to recover this money or are they going to blacklist Belemu the same way they have blacklisted contractors who dealt with the PF government? Their own cadre has also delivered air. So I don’t expect the President to keep quiet about this because he has been preaching prudence and transparency in his government.”
Chama charged that the government was being deceptive in its dealings.

He wondered why the government opted for an expensive Mahogany Airline when there was a cheaper offer from Proflight.
“These are a bunch of people who are very deceptive. If anything, they are dealers because they are giving those contracts in the night under the cover of darkness. They could have gone to other airlines who are much cheaper because we are told that in their desperate situation in order for them to come out, there was even a cheaper offer. And these figures have been floating around,” Chama said. “They are being exposed. You know, deceptions and lies are manifesting themselves to make sure that the truth will always come out. God is exposing them in a bigger way. Of course, the deal was done in the night under the cover without even tender. That amount, it’s a very huge amount. In terms of authority to procure, I think it’s beyond the threshold. $275,000 just to go and watch football? That’s too much.”
Chama reminded the UPND administration of their claims about accountability.
He said what they had done was contrary to their claims.

“And this is a government that has been saying they will not tolerate wasteful expenditure. And we are under a very tight economic situation. And they are supposed to make sure that they protect every cent that comes into the coffers of government. Now, they are being exposed that this is a very wasteful government,” said Chama. “$275,000 can complete a school and make it habitable to even employ teachers and a lot more civil servants. They want to hide that they are very prudent and very rational leaders. But, thank God, because of being stranded now they are being exposed. And we are going to know how they gave $275,000 to that man who is their supporter, who is their cadre. And these are some of the issues that the investigative wings, if they are really impartial, they are supposed to be looking at.”

PF disorganised, can’t form govt – former Milanzi MP

By Richard Luo in Sinda

FORMER Milanzi PF member of parliament Whiteson Banda says there is too much disorganisation in his party.

Asked if he still believed the PF could form government again, Banda refused vehemently.

“I was PF MP but I’m disappointed with PF. PF for now can’t form government unless they put their house in order. It’s not possible because there is too much disorganisation in it,” Banda said.

Meanwhile, Banda has asked the UPND government to take the fight against corruption seriously instead of shaming itself.

In an interview, Banda expressed sadness at the development where the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seized properties from two former ministers but later released them.

“We support the fight against corruption but the government should not be vindictive. The corruption process should be properly undertaken,” he said.

Banda urged the government to ensure anyone who plundered public resources should pay back.

He said the economy was not good and if money stolen was brought back, the economy could be boosted.

“The economy is not okay. Prices of commodities are still high. Fuel prices are still high. People were so expectant that if they usher in power this government, things will change. But we didn’t know what was ahead of us, like the war in Ukraine which has really affected our economy,” Banda added. “The fight against corruption should be real. Those that plundered should make sure they bring back the monies because those monies belong to the people. I have been an MP for about 10 years in a rural constituency and I know what people need. If someone plundered our money, what will our people do on the developments they need?”

Banda said Zambians needed the stolen money for more development.

He has also challenged the government to balance up the economy, adding that “if it remained like this for the next three years, then people may vote UPND out”.

“If the next two years the government fails to work on the economy, the commodities are still high, to me it means the government has failed and I can foresee that they will only work for five years,” said Banda.

My girlfriend lied about getting a job in another country just so she could keep her pregnancy a secret

My girlfriend lied about getting a job in another country just so she could keep her pregnancy a secret.

My girlfriend and I had been in a relationship for close to three years and she was the love of my life, I really wanted to marry her, I planned my future with her in it but she disappointed me in the worst way possible. She had a very good job, ms independent and all, humble to the core and very kind, whenever she visited, she would cook for me and just take care of me. I felt her love.

My girlfriend told me that she had gotten a one year contract with a certain company and she was to leave for another country. I was proud of her, I was sad that she was leaving but I was truly happy she got a good job offer, she told me she was not gonna go if I didn’t want her to (reverse psychology) but I told her to go. I told her I was proud of her and the big moves she was making. So she left for London.

She left the following week and while she was there, she maintained her communication with me, she would call me, video call me with no problems whatsoever.

After months of not seeing her, I decided to book a flight to give her a surprise visit, I also wanted to share good news with her about my promotion at work. I flew there and didn’t tell her, I knew exactly where she stayed, she had mentioned it but she was certain I was n

ot gonna go visit at least I’d say. I went there and a man opened for me, on our way in, he screamed “ babe someone’s here for you” she came out and almost collapsed when she saw me, I was equally in shock because she had a big belly. I was speechless. I stood there like a statue, her boyfriend was being nice, he didn’t realize what was happening. She then lied to him that I was her cousin. She took me outside and tried to explain but nothing made sense, I wanted to disappear, I didn’t know how to feel.

So her plan was to have a baby and leave the baby in to come to me then she would have been leaving the country to her other family. She wanted to leave a double life.

Kanye West jokes about how I fu**ed with Kim Kardashian first – The Game

Rapper, The Game has claimed that Kanye West jokes about him dating Kim Kardashian before she married Kanye West.

In 2019, The Game, a long time collaborator and friend of Kanye, explicitly rapped about having sex with the famous reality T.V. star and entrepreneur on a song titled Kim Kardashian in 2019.

“I should apologize cause Ye my folks, n####” . He also later rapped about making Kylie Jenner “Frosted Flakes” when she woke up.

Now in a new interview with Complex, the West Coast rapper has spoken about how he and Ye addressed the issue.

“Anytime I’ve ever needed Ye, he’s always been there for me,” The Game explained to Chris “Speedy” Morman.

“And this is after I’ve disrespected, you know, his marriage at times by saying what me and Kim used to be and all of this stuff.”

The Game says Kanye never let it come between them and was good-natured about it.

“Even Ye would joke about it,” Game said. “I sit with Ye, and he’s like, ‘oh s###. Well damn, you f##### with Kim first,’ and I’ll be like, ‘n#### we in a room full of people’,” he said.

When asked “Is that awkward for you when that happens?” The Game recalled it was initially.

“The first time, the first two times, it was kind of awkward,” he said. However, “now it’s just like Ye being honest and it’s all good,” he added.

The Game then explained there’s a high likelihood of meeting people in the industry with similar dating histories.

“Everybody that you date, if you go outside and meet a girl today, she has a history,” The Game said.

“She dated somebody. If I seen you with a girl I used to date, the next time I see you, I be like, ‘Yo, Speedy, she like it from the side.’ You feel me? I want to make sure it’s good, that you last in there, you know what I’m sayin’?”

“My brother could date a girl that I used to be with and I would be just fine with it,” he added.

Bishop accused of raping female pastor twice and threatening her

1

A married church founder named Bishop Daniels has been accused of raping an assistant female pastor at his house in Lekki, Lagos.

Daniels, who is married with children, allegedly raped the 22-year-old pastor on two separate occasions, the victim told Punch.

The Bishop had summoned the assistant female pastor, who was based outside Lagos, to the Lagos headquarters of the church for a meeting.

She didn’t attend because the meeting clashed with her brother’s wedding.

As a result, he summoned her to the headquarters again to punish her but he ended up raping her twice, the victim claimed.

She told the publication: “He wanted me to attend a meeting and the date clashed with my brother’s wedding. So, I didn’t attend the meeting and as punishment, he ordered church members at my branch not to celebrate my birthday and instructed me to report to the church’s headquarters in Lagos for punishment.

“So, I went to his house in Lekki for the punishment and when I got there, he said I should strip naked because he wanted to beat me. He was alone at home. He saw that I was shocked at his statement and started making me feel guilty.

“He said his spiritual father tested him in many areas and after hours of contemplating, he became angry that I disobeyed him. So, I went into the guest room, took off my clothes and closed my eyes as I came out to meet him. He told me not to close my eyes, and ordered me to kneel as he sat on a chair.

“He saw my nakedness and said he wanted to test my loyalty and was not having sex with me. He told me to put my clothes back and after wearing them, he told me to take them off again and I did. He later told me to go and not tell anyone, but after leaving his place, I told some of our senior church members.”

The victim said she returned home and after some time, Daniels called her to report at his residence over another incident.

She said: “So, while at his house, he told me he would punish me for an offence and said I should transcribe the messages in one of his teachings. The next day, the pastor of the branch in Ibadan and his wife whom I met at his residence the previous day left, so I was alone in the house with Bishop Daniels.

“So, while in the sitting room with him, he attempted to kiss me and I stopped him; then he slapped me. He was angry and said the last time he told me to go naked, he didn’t do anything with me. So, he left and I went into the room to sleep.

“The following day, we were in the sitting room listening to a pastor’s message when he said I should go naked again. I did, and surprisingly, he also went naked and raped me for about 30 minutes till I started bleeding because of the tears I sustained despite not being a virgin.

“The incident happened around 10pm; I was dumbfounded. He told me to go inside the room to clean up myself and before I returned, he had cleaned up the blood on the floor. He told me not to tell anyone, but I told a pastor in my church.”

The victim said Daniels did not allow her to leave his house, adding that when he attempted raping her the following night, she pleaded with him that she was tired.”

She continued: “In the morning, I greeted him, but he didn’t answer. Later, he started saying I should be privileged that he had that kind of thing with me. All of a sudden, he took off my clothes and raped me again and I still bled the second time. It was traumatic for me.

“He told me to go to the bathroom to wash and he cleaned the blood before I came out. I picked up my phone, informed the pastor of my branch and another church member of our branch, who decided to come to the pastor’s house.

“Bishop Daniels started begging me and said he never knew what came over him. When the church member came, I wanted to follow her out to tell her the story, but he prevented me from leaving the house. I later left his house but while thinking about the incident, I felt suicidal.

“I stopped going to the church and my branch has been closed down. I reported the incident to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon, in 2020. But the investigating police officer, one inspector Samuel, told me to bring N70,000 if I wanted him arrested.

“I did not have that money and had to stop going to the station. Bishop Daniels started sending people to beg me, but I just moved on. Recently, two other victims reached out to me that Bishop Daniels attempted to have sex with them and I got someone ready to sponsor my case.

“So, I instituted the case again last month at the FCID Alagbon and he was arrested last week. I want justice, but the police have yet to charge him to court even after I gave them all my evidence, including how he was threatening me over the case and how his wife was begging me.”

According to Punch, in one of the audio recordings the victim provided, the bishop was heard telling her that they should commit sin together.

In another audio, the victim was heard crying as she challenged the bishop for telling someone that she wanted sex with him and he did it.

A spokesperson for the FCID, Niyi Ogundeyi, said following the complaint of the victim, Daniels was arrested and detained for six days.

He added: “Afterwards, he was released because he is entitled to bail and the police have no right to detain him perpetually.

“Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing and an appointment has been given to all parties to visit the command on Thursday.

“The allegation against him is that he sexually harassed her and other people corroborated the evidence of the complainant. Investigation is ongoing.”

Khloé Kardashian grills her mother, Kris Jenner on rumor of secretly marrying Corey Gamble

0

Kris Jenner opened up on her relationship with boyfriend Cory Gamble after Khloe confronted her in the Kardashians Hulu show sneak peek.

In a preview clip, Khloe tells her trusty momager that multiple sources have shared with her that Kris and Corey, who began dating in 2014, tied the knot sometime behind-the-scenes.

“I’ve heard from so many people that you’re secretly married,” Khloe, 37, tells her mom, to which Kris, 66, responds with a laugh, “No, I’m not secretly married.”

“Let me see your hands!” Khloe demands, pointing out a large yellow rock Kris was rocking on that finger. “Hmm, looks like it.”

“Stop. You think I’m gonna get married and not have a big ass party?” Kris fires back, which didn’t fully satisfy her daughter as the Good American founder noted she heard the rumor from “four different people.”

“No, Khloé, I’m not secretly married. I swear to God, on all my kids and daddy,” Kris responds, finally putting a pin in her daughter’s allegations.

Although Kris and Corey haven’t yet walked down the aisle they do currently live together, and Kris noted how well Corey takes care of things around the house.

“He’s been so amazing moving into the house because he really handles everything,” Kris says in the clip. “There’s so much security.”

“Is he, like, your head of security?” Khloe asks, to which Kris responds, “Basically! I love that side of him, because he’s always really protective.”

The preview clip comes a couple months after Kris’s former son-in-law, Kanye West, implied that Kris and Corey actually split up. The rapper uploaded a picture of Corey and wrote a cryptic message that makes it seem like he’s no longer part of Kris and the Kardashians’ lives. “God has a plan to remove the godless Corey needed to never be here anyway And I think he’s a nice person Not a great person,” he started off.

Kris, 66, was previously married to Robert Kardashian Sr. for 13 years and to Caitlyn Jenner, formerly Bruce, for 24 years.

‘He’s a hero of Ukraine’ -15 year old boy risks his life to help Ukraine military using his toy drones to locate advancing Russian convoys (photos)

0

A teenage boy who used his drone to help Ukraine’s armed forces locate and destroy a huge Russian convoy bearing down on Kyiv in the early days of the war has been hailed as a ‘real hero of Ukraine’.

Ukraine’s territorial defence unit contacted young drone pilot Andrii Pokrasa early in the war after hearing that the teenager was a highly skilled drone operator living near Kyiv.

Andrii Pokrasa, a 15-year-old boy who lives on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital, was approached by the military to help them find a Russian convoy, which was between the E40 highway between Kyiv and Zhytomyr.

Despite the threat to his life, Pokrasa took his drone into a nearby field under cover of darkness and successfully obtained photos and GPS co-ordinates of the oncoming Russian convoy, which his father forwarded to Ukrainian military via social media.

Minutes later, Ukrainian artillery rained down on the highway near Berezivka and obliterated the convoy roughly 23 miles away from the Kyiv city centre.

The move was so successful that the military handed the young boy the controls of a high-grade drone with a longer range which helped them to go ahead wnd destroy several Russian tank units and armoured vehicles as a result.

‘[Pokrasa] was the only one who was experienced with drones in that region,’ Yurii Kasjanov, the commander of a territorial defence unit that liased with the teenage drone pilot, said.

‘He’s a real hero. A hero of Ukraine.’

Pokrasa described the experience as being ‘very, very scary’, but said he wanted to prevent the Russian forces from attacking his home town.

‘[The territorial defence force] provided us information on where approximately the Russian column could be.

‘Our goal was to find the exact coordinates and provide the coordinates to the soldiers… I gave them the coordinates and photos, and after that they targeted the location,’ the teenage pilot said.

Commander Kasjanov said his territorial defence unit offered as much protection to Pokrasa and his family as they could while the teenager carried out his vital work.

Ukraine’s deployment of drones has been an integral part of their success in pushing back Putin’s forces from around Kyiv, and Military-grade drones, such as the Turkish-made Bayraktar TB-2, have helped Ukraine’s armed forces to inflict major losses on Russia’s motorised units since the war began.

Pokrasa told Global News he was aware of the risks involved and was afraid, but said he knew ‘I can’t do it any other way’.

HH WANTS ME TO FEEL HE’S NOW IN POWER … I have prepared my blankets to spend nights in police cells – GBM

Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has charged that President Hakainde Hichilema will one day “find that we are the ones controlling power” and that he too will be “persecuted.”

Speaking with Daily Revelation, Mwamba said he was readying himself to be arrested today and has even prepared blankets to spend nights in police cells.

He insisted that he will be arrested today, claiming “and they have been instructed to detain me.”

“I don’t know where they will detain me but now we are going at new Home Affairs Ministry, the one next to Foreign Affairs. Then they will decide, but what I hear it’s either Woodlands Police station or Ridgeway,” he said.

He said he has readied his belongings to spend time in cells.

“Bwino bwino fye (I have prepared well), hahahaha! We are ready,” Mwamba said.

He said his lawyers have prepared for bail conditions, but “usually when they are determined to detain you, and more especially when it’s coming from the top, there is nothing that they can do, even our lawyers. Unless they change now when we go there. But according to the instructions is that ‘he must be detained and I should only come out tomorrow’,” Mwamba said. “It’s about the 2012 issue.”

He said he was used to being arrested, saying he had gone through “a lot of persecutions” when different presidents came into office.

“So this one, what he is doing, I think he’s trying to exercise his powers. He wants GBM to know that he’s now in power, which we know he is. But he must realise than sooner rather than later he will also lose power. He will just be one of us. And you know God willing he may find that probably we are the ones also in power, controlling the country,” said Mwamba. “So persecution I think is not the best thing to do when you have powers, because at the end of the day other people will also be in power and they will also persecute you. Yah!”

UPND POLITICS IS ABOUT PROPAGANDA AND DECEIT – NAKACINDA

UPND POLITICS IS ABOUT PROPAGANDA AND DECEIT – NAKACINDA.

….Says they have a tendency of misrepresenting a lot of things

Tuesday, June 7, 2022 (Smart Eagles)

If President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND say Good morning , you have to check your watch because they have a tendency of misrepresenting a lot of things, Patriotic Front Party Spokesperson Raphael Nakacinda has cautioned the Zambian people.

Hon Nakacinda said this against a backlog of U-turned decisions made by the New Dawn Administration most notably procedure in the recruitment of Teachers.

Speaking when he featured on Millennium radio programme, Hon Nakacinda said it was embarrassing to see Southern Province Minister Cornelius Mweetwa saying the recruitment process is irregular on the pretext that local stakeholders had not been involved and that a circular from Cabinet had guided on how it should be conducted.

He said the UPND Government has U-turned on their earlier pronouncement when they announced that people do not have to move from one locality to another , but they can apply in the district where they are and indicate the District they want to serve

Hon Nakacinda said contrary to what is being portrayed by the UPND, a Minister must be nowhere near issues to do with recruitment of civil servants.

He said it is a shame to have a government whose ministers and Cabinet want to be in the forefront in the recruitment and disciplinary of civil servants.

“If Mr Mweetwa found that some of the names that have been everted are not from that particular locality, it shows that it was a template that was presented At the beginning of the process.

It is ignorance for a Minister to make the pronouncements about the recruitment. Even to have a circular from Cabinet around how technocrats should be able to recruit so that Mr Mweetwa should have his preferred applicants on the list , is abuse of the process,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hon Nakacinda says the Zambian people should think twice on the intentions of the UPND to embark on a constitutional making Process because they have a history of shunning such attempts.

Hon Nakacinda said the Problem the country face when it comes to the enactment of the law is the deceitful nature of the UPND.

“Their politics is about Propaganda and deceit. They Don’t have a conscious that pricks them when they are Changing goalposts. They changed their goal posts over the 2016 Constitution. They said it had lacunae, but when they were asked to debate, they walked out. Even this time around they are playing a game of trying to show that they are the ones who are serious about this Constitutional making Process, they are just playing propaganda,” he said.

He said the UPND do not intend to clean up the Constitution but would rather want to push one or two provisions that favour their political agenda.

“They don’t intend to enact laws that would deal with public order act, defamation of the President, criminal libel , delimitation among others but would rather try to push for one or two provisions that would favour their political agenda,” he said.

He has however stated that the PF have always been progressive, and would support the Constitutional Process if done in good faith.
