PRESIDENTIAL ADVISOR LEVY NGOMA SEEKS LEGAL RESTRAINT OVER DEFAMATION CLAIMS

Presidential Political Advisor Levy Ngoma has moved to secure an injunction from the Lusaka High Court. The injunction is sought against Petauke Central Member of Parliament Emmanuel Banda and three others, to halt their alleged publication of defamatory statements regarding Mr. Ngoma and UPND Deputy National Youth Chairperson Trevor Mwiinde’s supposed involvement in an abduction that took place in May 2024.

According to documents filed in the Lusaka High Court, Mr. Ngoma and Mr. Mwiinde have jointly submitted an application for an injunction. The legal action follows persistent allegations by Emmanuel Banda and three other individuals, National Democratic Congress (NDC) President Saboi Imboela, Patriots for Economic Progress (PEP) leader Sean Tembo, and journalist Thomas Zgambo that both Mr. Ngoma and Mr. Mwiinde were complicit in an abduction event.

The Affidavit in Support of an Exparte Summon for an Order of Injunction details the nature of the defamatory words and the ongoing distress they have caused to Mr. Ngoma and Mr. Mwiinde. The documents outline the claimants’ position that the allegations are false and damaging to their reputations, necessitating legal intervention to prevent further publication.

  1. There’s a basic mistake HH’s aides are making. They’re too visible and too vocal. Presidential aides are civil servants by definition and ought to maintain a low profile. Only their boss is to be visible because he’s an elected official. Aides ‘speak’ only through their boss.
