RETURNING VEDANTA BACK TO KCM IS A NATIONAL DISGRACE ON US, ZAMBIANS.

14th July, 2023

The imminent return of Vedanta Resources Limited back to Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) as announced by Honourable Paul Kabuswe is a national disgrace on our nation. We have once again demonstrated that we Zambians lack the capacity to carve our own economic destiny. Vedanta’s return to KCM is a serious indictment on our national collective intelligence or the lack of it.

KCM under Vedanta only benefited the owner Mr. Agarwal and his business associates. No wonder he boasted on video that KCM had been giving him $500 million every year in profit, plus an extra $1 billion since 2003 and YET KCM WAS DECLARING LOSSES TO THE ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT.

We know President Hichilema and his administration lack any IMPETUS to return ZAMBIAN OWNERSHIP IN ANY MINE AND RUN IT PROFITABLY, THE LEAST THEY CAN DO IS LOOK FOR A “NEW INVESTOR” that will come and LOOT our resources again in the name of providing jobs to locals and pay contractors.

Only corrupt, inept, puppets of foreign business interests and self serving individuals and Government can talk about returning Vedanta back to KCM. By all accounts, Vedanta failed to run KCM for the benefit of the Zambian people.

After all the grand public public relations (PR) stunts and perceived secret exchange of dollars to politically exposed person’s has worked. KCM is on its way back to Mr. Agarwal and his Vedanta. Indeed the swallows have won Dingane, they have won.
