MUSICIANS SEE CHANGE IN THE NEW DAWN – ICHALO NA MORALE – DR MUMBA

LUSAKA – 27/06/22

Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba says uniting the nation is a huge task which President Hakainde Hichilema embarked on since he became President.

This is evident from the unity shown by musicians who together sang a song showing love for their country.

Dr Mumba said these huge hearts must be strong enough to forgive those that have injured others in the past as he urged President Hichilema to stay on course with the song of national unity.

The MMD leader said It is gratifying to note that President Hichilema forgave former President Edgar Lungu for the unfortunate imprisonment and advised UPND members to emulate and forgive the Kalandanya singers whose crime was only to sing songs of praise for the then sitting President.

He said the villifying of the artists would be planting a seed of vengeance for anyone singing for President Hichilema after he leaves office.

“This is a call to all Zambians to reach across every barrier which seeks to divide us. It’s only through forgiveness and unity that our nation shall realize its long awaited potential. We remain convinced that the desired development of our country cannot become a reality until national unity is realized ,” he said.

President Mumba said the trending story of the Kalandanya musicians who sang praise songs for former President Lungu and now singing for President Hakainde Hichilema has been received with divided emotions.

The MMD President said some UPND members feel the artists are singing for purposes of “eating” with the new ruling party or attempting to hide their past misdeeds.

“King David, dealt with this matter during his time, when he had to educate the soldiers that went with him to battle and those who remained behind. His “followers” said, those who didn’t go with them should not eat of the spoils. David declared that the victory that God had granted was not just for the few who fought but for every one in the kingdom. This is how you foster kingdom unity,” he said.

Dr Mumba clarified that the musicians are not asking to join UPND but want to contribute to the well being of Zambia through music.

  1. These musicians who sing praises are just doing it to eat, it is not national unity. There is nothing to forgive here. Talk something more sensible than this useless appeal oradvice or whatever you call it.

  2. I totally agree with you Dr Mumba. I feel the President as a true leader should forgive those poor musicians because they have shown remose and apologised through their music.
HH should even respond to them directly and invite them to state house because they are also Zambians and he has the upper hand. I know the musicians will also respond positively as they have already done so.

    • I don’t agree. We need to have some dignity please. JK claimed that he was more popular than HH. Kanene said HH was a Satanist. Accepting these people is the same as accepting Chishimba kambwili when he says sorry. Here them out, but please let them stay in opposition or continue to pursue personal business.

  3. I agree that forgiveness is key in fostering meaningful and genuine reconciliation. In fact God demands that we forgive or else he will not forgive our own sins.

But I also think it is important to mark them that cause confusion among us and to search for the fruits of repentance otherwise if not it will encourage a culture where we licence a few misguided and greedy individuals to take advantage of the mercy of the masses.

If the hearts of those asking to be embraced are hardened and deceptive the cost of inclusion can be grave. Let this be on merit of the genuine position of people. If others are still insulting the current leadership while the pretend to be repentant I think we ought to be careful on how far we surrender how hearts.

This should be a great lesson to the musicians who should now be careful about aligning their talents to mortal men who today are here and tommorrow are gone. The should as an association begin to work towards modalities that protect them from political manipulation and abuse so that they can play a part in the country using their talent while the law protects them to enjoy the freedom and right to represent whom ever the wish.

This is what should be encouraged. We should not again encourage these young talented artists to now bow down as the did to our current beloved President in order for them to survive. This right to believe in who the want is enshrined in the constitution, let’s respect that.

Status, quo can not be allow to continue. We need to encourage them to sing more patriotic songs that unity us than Divide us. If a political party wants a song then the pay for it as a service and a business transaction. We don’t condemn the musicians as its a contract as long as it falls within the confines of the law any thing outside that they become liable.

We need to have sanity in the country not these confused eye service gimmicks. It is destroying them and perpetually making them beggers.

  4. Are you saying that if those musicians stay in their lane then the country is divided? The country is bigger than the musicians. Most of those do their trade mixed with the dark world therefore, they should stay away from state house. They were in league with the leader who believed in the powers of the dark world who could give an ever smiling witch doctor a ministerial post and ate roasted snakes. He brought into state house some sangomas from a neighbouring country to help him rig elections etc. Those musicians must not involve our Republican President with cheap psychological stints. We do not know who has planted them against our President.
Nevers, the UPND members are not concerned with the musicians. We have important things to do for our party than worrying about the musicians.

  5. Let them sing about other things but HH. Why not sing about love or heaven or chickens, cattle or goats and sell the music.

  6. That is wise pastoral Counsel from Dr. Mumba. Musicians were divided into Camps b4 the elections, its either u supported ECL or HH. The architect of this division was ECL. Insteady of singing for any party that paid for their services they chose to align themselves with either political groupings and for the PF aligned groups, their close proximity to ECL got to their head and consequently made them to start maligning the opposition leaders which hurt alot of Zambians.
However, lets forgive and let them perform their music without any preferential treatment. The fight should be amongst the musicians on who can perform better. Singing should be about variety of things in society and not only politics. HH forgave ECL why shouldnt musicians be forgiven ? Lets Unity our Country

  7. BA MUMBA SURE, WHAT IS THERE TO FORGIVE? YOU MEAN OTHER GROUPINGS SHOULD ALSO FORGIVE THE UPND SINGERS LIKE THE ORGA FAMILY FOR HAVING SUNG FOR UPND? NO NO NO! THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE PAID TO COMPOSE SONGS BECAUSE THEY ARE IN THAT INDUSTRY, AND A MAN LIKE YOU HAS TO UTTER SUCH ADVISE SURELY? VERY DISAPPOINTING………..YOU WANT TO STIFLE OUR DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS? WHY DR MUMBA DO YOU ALWAYS COMMENT WRONGLY? VERY SAD! EVEN AT YOUR AGE YOU CANT ADVISE WISELY? IT IS BETTER TO KEEP QUITE. COME 2026, LET THOSE THAT WILL WANT TO SING FOR UPND DO SO, AND SAME FOR OTHER PARTIES…..LETS NOT BE MUZUNGU ANIKONDE! MENTION ONE SING THAT DIVIDED THE COUNTRY APART FROM SONGS THAT ONLY CAMPAIGNED FOR POLITICAL PARTIES, WHICH IS DONE WORLD WIDE.
