Commander Zambia Army, Lt General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele has continued to engage strategic partners at the Association of United States Army annual meeting in Washington, DC.
The Commander Zambia Army had a fruitful sideline discussion with the United States 41st Army Chief of Staff, General Randy George.
During the engagement, Lt Gen Zyeele reiterated his commitment to have Officers and Soldiers attend Military studies in the United States.
“With the initiation of our State Partnership programme, it is my desire that our long standing partnership improves and that the US consistently offer training slots for our officers and soldiers,” Lt Gen Zyeele said.
He added that in his modernisation programme, part of his priorities was the Non Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Junior Leadership development programme.
“As we embark on our modernisation programme, we need a paradigm shift in Militarism. We need Officers and men who can discern the strategic eenvironment despite it being characterised by volatility, uncertainity, complex and ambiguity.
The fog and friction of modern warfare need officers and men who see warfare through a better military prism which can only be achieved if both officers and soldiers are well grounded at all levels,” the Commander Zambia Army said.
And Gen George who is at the helm of the United states Army said he was happy that Lt Gen Zyeele had travelled to the USA. He said the US Army was determined to continue offering partners such as the Zambia Army training opportunities in order to build capacity.
He said he would be more than happy to accord Zambia Army Officers and men opportunities to study in the US just as the Commander Zambia Army, Lt Gen Zyeele did.
The Commander Zambia Army did his Infantry Officers Advanced Course at Fort Bennning in 1997, and the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 2014.
Before his elevation as Chief of Army Staff, General George served as Vice Chief of Staff and Army Corps Commander respectively.
The Commander Zambia Army further had interactions with Ghana’s Chief of Defence, Lt Gen Thomas Oppong- Pepra who ackwoledged Zambia’s Female Engagement Team (FET) roel in PeaceKeeping Operataions.
It must be noted that Ghanaian and Zambia Army were last year in December chosen by the US as the two countries to try the first ever Female Body Armour that has been specifially designed for female fighters.
This was announced at the United Nations Ministerial meeting in Accra, Ghana in December 2023 where the Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary and the Army Commander ( Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff by then) were key note speakers
