MUMBI PHIRI’S FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT AMOUNTS TO SELECTIVE JUSTICE- MUMBWALI

By: Kelvin Muzelenga

Zambian Network for Human Rights Defenders has implored the Director of Public Prosecution to table the murder case involving former Patriot Front-PF Deputy Secretary General, Mumbi Phiri, in Courts of law as it has over stayed without Trial.

Advocacy Coordinator, Armytage Mumbwali, tells Byta FM News that justice delayed is justice denied, adding that every individual has a right to fair trial as they are Innocent until proven guilty.

Mumbwali says the trend of selective application of the law should be cut down, noting that the rule of law does not mean putting suspects behind bars without trial.

He remarks that justice must be applied diligently, fairly and honestly.

In February, 2022, Police arrested and jointly charged Mumbi Phiri and former President Edgar Lungu’s barber, Shebby Chilekwa for one count of murder.

This is in a matter in which Lawrence Banda was shot dead in Kaoma on October 6, 2019.
