WOMEN’S PROBLEMS STILL BIG, BEMOANS PRESIDENT SABOI

…as she reveals that women are not spared in terms of the bad things that are happening in politics

Leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party has lamented that problems that women in the country are grappling with are many.

President Saboi Imboela said when she and other opposition female leaders addressed the media today that women are not spared in terms of the bad things that are happening in politics.

“As women we thought it is important that we start addressing women issues as a collective. We have seen that as political parties we have started coming together to talk about issues that affect the nation. But women issues you’ll find that they are unique to women,” she said.

“The problem of women in countries like ours they are still that big and that is why you see every time we have women issues in this country we try to support each other as women. Because we understand that the women are very few.”

She also said when women are seen to be performing worse than men in certain positions, “we” shall not keep quite.

“So the few that are there need support. But again we understand that the few that are there, when they are in various positions, they are not there for only them, they are there for others. So it is important for the country to know that in as much as we support women, when our women do wrong things, we are also there to say no this is not true, this is not right, don’t represent us like that,” she said.

“The reason why we believe in women leadership is because we believe that women can do so much. Women can perform better in certain positions. So when we see women performing worse than men in certain positions, trust me, we shall not keep quite.”

She added that “women are not spared in terms of the bad things that are happening in politics. We are being victimized, we are being harassed day in day out. And they don’t just do that in our political spaces, they come to our homes. So they don’t just victimize us as politicians, they victimize our children as well.”
