GOVT CALLS FOR CHANGE TO COPPER QUEENS TECHNICAL BENCH

Government has called for a change to the Copper Queens technical bench if the team is to deliver better results in future.

Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu says there is need for an overhaul after the team’s poor performance at the 2024 Olympic Games that saw Copper Queens exit the competition in the group stage after losing all three games.

Nkandu says there is need to change the coaching staff and look for better players to fill the midfield, defence and goalkeeping department.

Speaking during an interview, Nkandu however noted that the team has improved from their last Olympics exhibition in Tokyo.

  1. The problem is government has not invested in football and sport in general but you expect our teams to do well. Where government has committed itself to fund certain ventures, it has terribly failed to meet its obligations e.g. paying the coach of the men’s national team. Even in markets where you have experience, you need to invest in order to get favourable results. It is not just rhetoric!
