Confusion has ensued in the opposition Forum for Democracy and Development -FDD- with calls for a party convention to elect new leadership ahead of the 2021 general elections.
This has resulted in the suspension of Party Acting Spokesperson Yotum Mtayachalo.
In a letter dated 16th September 2020 and signed by FDD National Secretary Nathan Mulonga and addressed to Mr. Mtayachalo, it is stated that he has been suspended from all party activities and given 14 days to exculpate himself for allegedly interfering in the disciplinary proceedings against Central Province Secretary Jerry Simpemba and organizing unauthorized meetings purportedly to expel FDD Leader Edith Nawakwi.
But the FDD in Chama district has demanded the immediate reinstatement of the Party Chairman for Labour and Employment Yotum Mtayachalo and FDD Central Province Secretary Jerry Simpemba who have both been suspended by the party for allegedly advocating the expulsion of Party president Edith Nawakwi.
FDD Chama district party leadership led by the Information and Publicity Secretary Alex Njovu and six other district officials have warned that the failure to withdraw the two letters of suspension will result in the resignation of the entire membership of the party in the district to join either the ruling PF or the opposition UPND because the party is refusing to hold a national convention ahead of the 2021 general elections.
And suspended FDD Acting Spokesperson Yotum Mtayachalo confirmed receipt of the suspension letter to Phoenix News and explained that he is currently consulting his lawyers and that he will not be intimidated to stop demanding for what is enshrined in the party constitution.
