DPP WANTS SEIZURE OF LUSAMBO, CHITOTELA’S PROPERTIES

By Darius Choonya

The Director of Public Prosecutions DPP Lilian Siyunyi has opposed the decision by Lusaka Magistrate, Albert Mwaba to quash the warrant of seizure given to the Anti-Corruption Commission for properties belonging to former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo.

In a notice of appeal before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court, Mrs. Siyunyi says Mr. Mwaba errored by holding that both a warrant of seizure and a restriction notice issued under the ACC Act Number 3 of 2012 of the Laws of Zambia have the same effect among other grounds.

On May 19, 2022, Magistrate Mwaba ruled that the warrant of seizure given to the ACC was irregularly issued as an affidavit in support was not filed in court as required by law.

The said properties valued over K22 million are situated in Lusaka’s Chamba valley.
Further the DPP is also keen to appeal against the discharge of former Tourism Minister Ronald Chitotela on two counts of possessing property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Lusaka Magistrate Jennifer Bwalya discharged Mr. Chitotela on account of the consent settlement that he entered into with the Anti-Corruption Commission.- Diamond TV
