MUFULIRA NOW A GHOST TOWN

….under PF people were able to support their families but things are difficult, says area MP Hon Mwila

Lunga… Thursday January 19, 2023.

Mufulira Central Member of Parliament Hon Golden Mwila has lamented that workers in the mining industry are being laid off thereby pushing many families into destitution.

Hon Mwila has told Smart Eagles in an exclusive interview that people are now suffering as there is no direction from the UPND administration to address their concerns.

Hon Mwila claims that there is lack of liquidity at Mopani Copper Mines which has brought poverty in Mufulira District.

“Contractors and suppliers are not being paid on time and this is affecting economic activities in Mufulira and Copperbelt at large. The UPND over promised and they are failing to fulfill what they promised the people,” he said.

“My people in Mufulira deserve the best and not what they are receiving from the UPND government. Life is hard for my people unlike what was happening under the PF government.”

Hon Mwila said this is affecting workers who are being laid off on a daily basis.

He further claims that these workers have families to support.

“Suppliers and contractors risk losing their properties to banks and money lenders for failing to pay their debts due to Mopani Copper Mines failure to pay them,” he lamented.

“The whole district is affected due to lack of employment and shortage of money which in turn is affecting economic activities in Mufulira is making life difficult for my people.”

Hon Mwila emphasized that government needs to urgently address the Mopani Copper Mines problems to save jobs and pump liquidity into the economic activities of Mufulira and Copperbelt as a whole.
