ONGOING SEIZURE OF MEALIE MEAL BAGS FROM MUFULIRA SHOPS EXPLAINED

The UPND Copperbelt Deputy Information and Publicity Secretary Godfrey Kamangu has revealed that, government has put in place regulations aimed at controlling the movement of Mealie Meal from other districts as well as curbing possible smuggling of the commodity.

Speaking in an interview with Mafken FM radio, Mr. Kamangu states that, under these regulations traders are required to get clearance from the Ministry of Agriculture whenever they are buying Mealie Meal, from milling companies outside a particular district.

He explains that, the operations taking place were the Zambia National Service-ZNS- in collaboration with the Zambia Police are confiscating Mealie Meal from different Shopping outlets in Mufulira District is because of shop owners failure to get the aforementioned clearance.

He has since appealed to the business Community in the district to adhere to the regulation in order to avoid being inconvenienced.

Yesterday, about One Thousand, 25kg Mealie Meal bags were confiscated from one of the shop outlet in the Central Business District-CBD-of Mufulira, just near the traffic lights at the junction of Buteko and Mpempuleni road.
