God has already ordained Lungu, kubwelelapo pa mupando – Nkandu Luo

0

PF presidential running mate Nkandu Luo says God has already ordained President Edgar Lungu to retain the presidency.

And Professor Luo says people should be candid and condemn the human being and his team that are perpetuating violence.

Featuring on Breeze FM’s political hour programme on Monday night, Prof Luo said one of the functions of the Vice-President is to decisively deal with questions from the opposition in Parliament.

“The first function of the Vice-President is to carryout delegated functions from the President. The second function is mitigating for disasters and third function of a vice-president is to deal with government business in Parliament so that when the opposition come with all sorts of questions you should be ready to deal with those questions and deal with them decisively, because our opposition is bent to just embarrass government,” she said. “So as Vice- President, you should be able to deal with those questions in a manner that you are above everybody.”

Prof Luo said what people should expect from her after she is sworn in by President Lungu was to be that lieutenant who will ensure that his dreams are lived.

“President Lungu has shown the way that we, the Patriotic Front, want to take Zambia to a different level and what I would like is to remind the President that all the Zambians are looking at us to deliver and we need to hit the ground running,” she said. “And for us to do this, we need to remind the Zambian people about the importance of unity. United we stand, divided we fall. And one of the lessons that I know His Excellency the President of this Republic has really moved forward from the thinking of the first republican president is the One Zambia One nation motto. And I think I will always stand by the President to ensure that this One Zambia One Nation becomes a reality. There is no reason why we should be divided at this time.”

Prof Luo said her children were from Eastern Province and that she could not even try to talk about tribe in her home.

“My children are from Eastern Province, so how do I start talking about tribe in my home? I carry the name Luo because in health, you are allowed when you become a doctor to keep your maiden name. But my children are Mandas, they are not Luos. So how do I start talking about a tribe in my home? One of my brothers is married to a Lozi. I have got another brother who is married to a Tonga,” she narrated. “So these things (tribalism) must not even be there because of the intermarriages that are taking place now.”

Prof Luo said the message from President Lungu is that Zambians should uphold the One Zambia One Nation motto.

“And most importantly that we are all made in the image of God. Let’s be united. Politics are just like a football game. Come 12 August, God has already ordained President Edgar Chagwa Lungu kubwelelapo pa mupando (he’s getting back into office). So what will happen after
the 12th after you have killed each other and done all sorts of things? Let people just accept, no scheme is going… to win when God has decided,” she said. “They (opposition) brought all sorts of people into the country to help them. It can’t work. The people of Zambia, what needed to have happened is that they would have brought these people a long time ago to come and convince the people of Zambia that there is no road between Luangwa and Mwami but the road is there. They would have brought them to say there is no power at Kafue Gorge but power is there. People should just accept that there is no wind of change.”

Asked about the solution to ending political violence, Prof Luo said President Lungu has condemned violence.

“One of the things I said to a group of pastors and reverends this morning when they read a statement that they are appealing to politicians to stop this violence, I told them ‘Let’s be candid’. I don’t think you have heard one of the leaders of one of the largest political parties in the country that clearly is reported to be perpetuating violence condemn violence,” she claimed. “If anything, if you read yesterday’s statement from one of his advisors, he actually said ‘we shall be killing until our gentleman gets to State House’. This is in writing! So how do you even come and say ‘you politicians?’ People must be candid and condemn the human being and his team that are perpetuating violence.”

Prof Luo said violence should not be tolerated because “as long as you make it general, I will get away with it”.

“But our President, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has condemned violence and even gone further to say, ‘even my own party members if they are found perpetuating violence, let the law take its course’. That’s the language of a leader. So, I think that you need to be candid and you
need to point out some of the statements that you hear,” she said. “Earlier, I heard a statement from him directly saying ‘our people are just defending themselves. Is that correct?”

Prof Luo said she was expecting Zambians to name and shame the leader
whom she accused of perpetuating violence so that he could stop the vice.

Vote out Lungu before he destroys the the army like he has destroyed the police – Colonel Panji Kaunda

1

By Staff Reporter

COLONEL Panji Kaunda says deploying the army on the streets amounts to abuse.

Commenting on President Edgar Lungu’s deployment of the army ‘to help police quell political violence’, Col Panji said ordering the army to patrol the streets when two people are murdered was not acceptable.

“Zambians must realise that we are in this mess where the President as Commander-In-Chief has forced the army to be patrolling in our streets. Let’s first look at the role that the army are supposed to play in the country. The army and the defence forces are supposed to defend the country from external… and when we have got an internal uprising or armed and the police and other agencies cannot manage, then the army comes in,” he explained. “But you cannot bring in the army into a political situation or it’s a murder case. Two people are killed badly then you call the army to come and patrol the streets. That is abuse of the army.”

Col Panji said the army were trained to shoot and kill legally and not to start searching cars for weapons of different type.

“We are in this mess because the government of ba Lungu by politicising police have failed the nation. The police are now like a party cadre. They can’t control anybody, they can’t arrest anybody from the PF, the only thing they are doing is arresting people from the opposition political parties,” he noted. “So as a result, the people are forced to defend themselves. I am not saying killing somebody is right. It is wrong but as a saying goes ‘kudziwa chagwetsa dzaye kuti Njobvu ithyoke mnyanga’ – the chewas say. What is the cause for this violence? The cause for this violence is that the police have been biased towards one side. Whenever a PF cadre does something they are never arrested but as soon as the people from the opposition cough, they are arrested for coughing.”

Col Panji said if the police were free and fair, issues of violence would not have been there.

“The police would have been arresting anybody who does violence as a criminal activity not as a party activity. I get worried when I hear
our police say ‘we have arrested so and so suspected to be a PF cadre or an MDC cadre. That’s not it. They are supposed to take these people as law breakers,” he said.

Col Panji said the country was where it is because of the failure of the government led by President Lungu.

“The remedy now or in few days is to vote them out because they have failed us. Let’s vote these people out and put a serious guy ahead of us otherwise they are going to destroy the army the way they have destroyed the police,” he said. “These incidences that are happening here they are still police cases. They are not armed with guns and bombs. they are armed with machetes and knives and it is the police who are supposed to deal with that. They have got the police intelligence and, or that, they are supposed to detect that. This is a situation where there is a failure by the President as Commander-In-Chief to control the situation in the country and anybody who fails must face consequences.”

Col Panji said Zambians should punish President Lungu because he is the one who has failed.

“The consequence here is to change the government. I am not being political but being practical. We have got a few more days to go, I
implore Zambians to keep calm. Let’s punish the one who has put us in harm’s way,” he urged. “Those are doing their work because they are trained to obey orders. Soldiers never disobey an order no matter how it is. Otherwise, don’t blame the soldiers for being in the streets, it’s their job, they have been ordered, they have no choice.”

Meanwhile, UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said three weeks ago, UPND had information on deployment of soldiers across the country for purposes of elections.

He argued that it was not the Kanyama incidence that had prompted the deployment of soldiers.

“Soldiers deployed in Mumbwa five days ago. They were deployed in many areas of the country. We shall not question their operations because they have their own modus operandi, they may have information which we do not have,” he said. “But the question is this, in a democratic state like ours, wouldn’t it have been nice for us to know what the security challenge is for soldiers to deploy? …And who is fighting for soldiers to deploy?”

Mweetwa said in 2019 and 2020, the Zambia Police, through the national budget were allocated K11.1 billion to acquire armament.

He said the Zambia Police had been armed as if they were a paramilitary grouping confronting a dissident militia group in the country.

“They are heavily armed to the teeth against citizens who are not even armed with stones but are armed with the truth, telling the nation, telling a president, Mr President Edgar Changwa Lungu you are a failure, your leadership is anchored on a legacy of corruption, failure to create employment, issues to do with debt, political violence, political cadreism, failure to improve conditions of service, failures to pay retirees their money” Mweetwa said. “These are the stones Zambians are carrying, truth in their mouth and not stones or anything for Zambia Police to arm themselves in the manner they have armed themselves.”

He said it was commendable that the Zambia Army had deployed in Kanyama.

“I want to put it very clear, we the UPND Alliance have every confidence in Zambia Army because they have an enduring and excellent reputation locally and internationally in terms of their professionalism,” he said.

Mweetwa said the Zambia Army had served and maintained Zambia’s territorial integrity very well.

He noted that the Zambia Army had gone to international peace missions in Sierra Leone, Central African Republic and South Sudan.

“The report we have received about Zambia Army, Zambia National Service, Zambia Police is excellent in terms of their professionalism. Some of our colleagues unfortunately have lost their lives trying to serve humanity out there. We do not think that in this election Zambia Army are deploying to intimidate voters,” he noted. “We do not think the Zambia Army can sacrifice their good reputation for a party that has quickly lost the popularity among the citizens, that they must now go on the streets to intimidate voters, no.”

Mweetwa told people that when they see soldiers deployed around a polling station, they should be happy that they were safe and no one would tamper with their votes.

“This is what we need in this election and therefore we commend President Lungu for that decision,” he said. “Let Zambia Army deploy en masse especially in urban areas because we don’t want this mediocrity and lunacy by Patriotic Front where they send their cadres to go and harass poll staff, bring chaos around polling stations.”

He said an election properly guarded by Zambia Army would have integrity and that the UPND would accept its outcome.

Mweetwa said the UPND had noted the suffering of the men in uniform.

“When they deploy in UN peacekeeping missions, they get paid in US dollars. Government shares that money; government of Zambia shares a salary of a soldier, a salary of a police officer, a salary of ZNS officer 50-50 if not more,” he charged.

He said if given the mandate, the UPND would bring the bad practice to an end.

He said no one should ask to share a salary of an office on peace mission.

“Begin to imagine, those officers who lost their lives, did these government officials also contribute to that life, that they also suffered an injury…? Nothing. If you die, you die alone; if you get paid, you get paid alone. Therefore, no one should share the salary,” he said. “I have been in Parliament, there are members of parliament, they perform a lot of tours outside the country. Sometimes a minister would be out of the country for two months, they get paid a lot of money in dollars. Have you ever heard that government, minister of foreign affairs, I will use [Joe] Malanji because he is my brother, he is no longer going to be minister of foreign affairs unless HH nominates him…have you ever heard that minister Malanji has been out for two months, he has been paid say US $20,000 and Government of the Republic of Zambia is going to get US$10,000 off the minister or member of parliament, including me? Why should it be that when a civil servant, a soldier, a police officer goes to UN peacekeeping government comes in to share? This is theft by daylight.”

Mweetwa urged the soldiers to do what their Malawian counterparts did in that country.

A caller asked him if the UPND would bring on board the PF leaders like the PF have done with MMD and Mweetwa said not everyone in the ruling party was bad and corrupt.

He said some of the ministers and PF leaders were good and deserve a place in the next government.

RESPECT THE OFFICE YOU WANT, OR ELSE YOU WILL NEVER GET TO THAT OFFICE- PASTOR BJ NGOSA CASTIGATES OPPOSITION

…..calls on Zambians to reject “leaders” desperate enough to use ‘magicians and witches’ masquerading as men of God to attain power..

Lusaka, Tuesday, 3 August, 2021 (Smart Eagles)

Prominent Zambian clergyman BJ Ngosa has called on the opposition UPND leader to respect the presidency if he is ever to ascend to that position.

Pastor Ngosa says the UPND leader has on countless occasions disrespected President Edgar Lungu and allowed for his followers to do the same and has never come out to condemn his followers’ violence, insults or disrespect agaunst the President, other citizens and women, but has instead supported them, calling some freedom fighters.

He said the behaviour of UPND supporters is not far from their leader’s behaviour because the followers only do what their leader has shown them, saying that if a leader is not showing respect neither will the followers.

“If you portray humility and respect, you will see that violence in this country will come down.” He said.

“We have history in this country where Sata vowed against Levy, until we saw Levy and Sata hold hands, the nation stopped having violence, I think it is the duty of those aspiring to be president of this country to respect the president and to honor the presidency, this is the reason I believe that some of them will never see the light of the presidency until they learn to respect that presidency.” Pastor Ngosa added.

“The anointing you do not respect, you will not benefit from, if you want to be president of the Republic of Zambia you must have respect for the current president because by the same measure you measure him, we will come and measure you.” He further said.

And Pastor Ngosa has called on Zambians to reject “leaders” that are using people masquerading as men of God when they infact are not.
He says Zambians must begin to interrogate the what type of spirit that some of the people aspiring for presidency want to use to lead the nation.

“We should be able to discern the spirit under which these people are speaking so that the nation is properly guided.” He said.

“You shall know them by their fruit, when did some of them start speaking against the president? When they were deported, when it became clear that they were womanizers, that they were men that were not living according to the standard of God and when the truth about the charms they were giving to people came out.” He said.

He emphasized that Zambia is a Christian nation and anything being propagated by anyone that is not Christian should not be condoned as it has the potential to throw the nation into spiritual confusion.

We are all over on the streets; but don’t be intimidated – Zambia Army

THE Zambia has deployed reinforcement in all the 10 provinces of the country to beef up security, ahead of next week’s general election.

On Sunday, President Edgar Lungu ordered the deployment of military in Lusaka to suppress ‘violence’ ahead of voting.

According to Zambia Army commander Lieutenant General William Sikazwe, the deployed soldiers are working with police and conducting patrols to curtail any emergence of violence.

Lt Gen Sikazwe has told Zambians not to live in fear or feel intimidated, with the sight of soldiers, ahead of August 12, the polling day.

“Just to assure the nation that they should not worry at all. I think they all heard the commander-in-chief authorised the military to move in and support the police. It was a good move, so that people are free,” Lt Gen Sikazwe said when he paid a courtesy call on North-Western Province permanent secretary Willies Manjimela in Solwezi yesterday.

“There was a lot of apprehension – people were not sure if at all there will be that peace for them to go and even cast their vote on 12th. But because of the troops, I think this gives them assurance that they are free.”

He further said that: “on 12th they should just go and vote en masse. Security is provided!”

“We are all over now on the streets to ensure that our people are very safe; they can go to their offices, work well, come back,” said Lt Gen Sikazwe.

“Even on 12th they should not fear at all. They should just go and cast their vote in numbers. Then go home! Even after elections we’ll ensure that there is peace everywhere.”

Next week on Thursday, Zambians will be voting for the 2021 to 2026 councillors, council chairpersons/mayors, members of parliament and the President.

A total of 7, 023, 499 (seven million, twenty three thousand, four hundred and ninety nine) Zambians are registered to vote in this year’s general elections.

Out of that number, 3, 751, 040 (three million, seven hundred and fifty one thousand and forty) are female while the remaining 3, 272, 459 (three million, two hundred and seventy two thousand, four hundred and fifty nine) are male.

Open Letter To Zambian Pastors, Particulary Those Close To Mr Edgar Lungu

0

OPEN LETTER TO ZAMBIAN PASTORS, PARTICULARY THOSE CLOSE TO MR EDGAR LUNGU.

By Mike Mako 04/08/21

Dear Pastor Moses Chiluba, Bishop Joshua Banda, Joe Imakando and other clergymen who are close to president Lungu,

I greet you in the Name of Jesus Christ whom you have been called to preach.

I am writing this letter with a heavy heart, considering what is currently happening in Zambia, where only one man is being treated like a criminal in his own country, which I find quite unfair and demonic to say the least. I am not quite sure if at all you see what is happening, but I wish to let you know men of God, that the current happenings in this country have the potential to put this country on fire.

Beloved clergymen, we know that you are in good books with president Edgar Lungu because of his enduring commitment to the ‘Zambia is a Christian Nation’ notion. Not only are you in good books with the humble head of state, but I do believe that you understand quite well what it means to be a Christian, being Crist-Like. You have studied the Bible, and I need not to teach you this simple truth. Mr. Edgar Lungu has shown true commitment to his Christian faith by continuously seeking divine interventions through national prayers and fasting, which you attend.

Now let us look at the conduct our president, we see if it matches with his commitment to the Christian faith which demands us to be truthful, kind-hearted, tolerant, loving, forgiving and humble, among other attributes which again, I am sure, you know very well. Now, the question that we must ask ourselves is, is Mr. Lungu truthful in his conduct? Is Mr. Lungu kind-hearted? Is he tolerant and loving? Does he forgive? Is he a humble man? In my opinion, Mr. Edgar Lungu has none of the above attributes, especially when it comes to his political opponents, particularly HH.

I have no doubt that Mr. Lungu hates HH with all the passion, which is totally against the Christian faith. I have know doubt that Mr. Lungu is untruthful in his conduct as he preaches one thing and does the very opposite, he is a hypocrite. I have no doubt that Mr. Lungu is full of pride which makes not to listen to sound advise.
Why is it that whenever HH want to fly, they use ZAF to block the air space; even when the clearance is given to him to fly, the cancel at he last minute for no reason? Why is it that when HH decides to use the road to go and campaign they block him?

Why is it that whenever HH wants to meet the people to sell out his message like the rest of the candidates they teargas him together with his supporters? What wrong has HH done for the entire state machinery to be shifted to fighting him? Is this the kind of conduct that Christ, whom Mr. Lungu keeps preaching on his Facebook page, would want to see? Isn’t a HH Zambian just like the rest of the candidates and their campaign teams, who are freely moving from one point to another? Mr. Lungu is going too far with his desperation to remain in power. HH is a Zambian just like him and the other 14 candidates. He has the right to go anywhere in Zambia to campaign. Why is Mr. Lungu blocking him as if this country is his personal property?

My appeal to you men of God is that may you organize yourselves as soon as possible and request for a meeting with president Edgar Lungu where you should counsel him. The mam needs counseling as soon as possible. I doubt if at all he is normal. Even his advisors hate him so much such that they are continuously giving him wrong advice and I can assure you dear clergy that Mr. Lungu will be abandoned when the time to pay for his sins comes.

His behavior doesn’t befit that of a head of state. Please men of God advise Mr. Lungu to stop this perilous route he has taken before this country goes into flames. HH is a peaceful and patient man, and we must thank God for that. If he was like other African opposition leaders we would have experienced civil war a long time ago because he has being greatly abused by this wicked, intolerant, untruthful and hypocritical regime.

To all Zambians, including all the security wings and the Electoral Commission of Zambia, let us not allow one man and his selfish friends to destroy this country. Let’s join hands and denounce the evil conduct of Mr. Edgar Lungu and his entire team. We only have one country to protect.

To the Men of God, don’t forget your assignment, go and give counsel to Mr. Lungu, tell him to stop his wicked ways before the wrath of God falls on him.

Yours Beloved,
Concerned Zambian.

there is need for change. We can’t go on like this, God Wants A Fresh Start For Zambia – Bishop Imakando

God Wants A Fresh Start For Zambia – Bishop Imakando.

…there is need for change. We can’t go on like this. It is time to change what is not working.

Bread of Life Church Overseer, Bishop Joe Imakando, told congregants that attended his Sunday service held on various social media platforms that they must use the August 12 elections to solve the many challenges the country was undergoing.

The renowned clergy said the month of August was a new beginning for the country. He said the month of August provided an opportunity to start afresh for the people of God.

“Get ready. There is a shift that is coming. A shift that will bring a new season,” said Bishop Imakando. “In the month of August, on the 12th day we are going to elect our president, our MPs, our mayors, our council chairpersons, our councilors. God is giving us the power to choose our leaders. And what we do on 12th August, will affect your future, it will affect your livelihood, it will affect your job, it will affect your business. It will affect your family.”

He said Zambians should not miss the opportunity. Bishop Imakando said the month of August was a game changer.

“Change is a constant thing, everything is subject to change. People change, fashions, etc! Change is all around us. As I have interacted with people, I have heard people complaining that there are no medicines in hospitals and clinics. Some are complaining that their businesses have been affected because of the depreciation of the Kwacha. Some are complaining. Others are complaining about violence and others are complaining about the mountain of debt. Something is wrong somewhere. There is need for change. We can’t go on like this. It is time to change what is not working,” Bishop Imakando emphasised.

He said it was time for the country to change the direction to solve its economic and social challenges.

“I am not talking politics. I am talking about the nation of Zambia and what we are going through. I am not siding with any political party. What I am saying is, in this month of August God wants a fresh start for Zambia,” said the clergy.

“Whatever vehicle, whether it’s the ruling party of the opposition but we can’t go on Like this. You can resist change but if change is for God, it will happened,” he laboured. “Men can express their opinions but God has the final word.”

The People of Nakonde in Muchinga Province have said; “Bally FAKA PRESSURE and no weapon fashioned against you, ourselves and Zambia as a whole, shall prosper and that we are RED and READY for Change”.

Our message to them was that; “We have heard and seen for ourselves that you, the lovely people of Nakonde will not only speak through the ballot but also stand and say enough is enough!.

Ba Nakonde, your resilience is unprecedented and this is the same across the Country. What shall we pay you for this noble cause if not unflinching love and unparalleled development!

Like we always say: No one will stand in the way of a decided population and if the plans of those who have failed our Country is to take away our lives so be it, but you Zambians will surely one day hold them accountable, because you have the power to hire and fire like what will happen next week, on 12th August 2021.

No matter what! It’s time for Change.

HH will win August Polls – NKC African Economics research

A South Africa-based NKC African Economics – which specialises in providing forecasts and insights for major African economies predicts that the United Party for National Development (UPND) will win the August polls.

In its research briefing on Zambia’s elections, NKC African Economics says although the outcome of Zambian polls is unpredictable given the unfair environment under which elections are being administered, it’s findings show that 75% of respondents to the poll indicated that their hope for a better country under President Edgar Lungu’s administration is impossible.

“According to a December Afrobarometer survey, 75% of Zambian respondents believe that their country is “going in the wrong direction” and identified management of the economy as one of the most important problems,” the report says in part.

NKC on President Edgar Lungu

“Mr Lungu’s political appeal, like the late Michael Sata’s, is that he is considered to be a man of the people. However, many people believe they are paying for the government’s debt debacle through a devalued kwacha and higher living costs – consumer price inflation surged to 24.6% in June. Some of our sources acknowledge that he has contributed to infrastructure development but say that citizens feel that this will not put food in their stomachs. Earlier this month, Mr Lungu was booed by a crowd in the Northwestern province, where Mr Hichilema won 86.8% of the vote in 2016. Additionally, after losing two presidents who died while they were in office – Levy Mwanawasa in 2008 and Sata in 2015 – Zambians are keeping an eye on Mr Lungu’s physical ability to hold office as well. In June, Mr Lungu collapsed during a military parade at the 45th Defence Force Day Commemoration and Investiture Ceremony in Lusaka. Nor was it the first time he suffered a faint spell in public. Mr Lungu’s campaign for this election has largely consisted of promises to continue to expand social assistance programmes which provide a safety net for the poor. He has also been actively responding to concerns raised by the Mine Workers Union of Zambia regarding outstanding salary payments and has promised to allocate land to mineworkers to build affordable housing. If Mr Lungu wins in August, his administration will continue to create a hostile business environment for foreign companies and suppress civil liberties through the State apparatus”

NKC on Hakainde Hichilema

Mr Hichilema is a well-known former private sector executive (he was CEO of Coopers and Lybrand Zambia, and then of Grant Thornton Zambia), who has unsuccessfully contested five presidential elections since 2006. Over the last three elections, his support has grown significantly and, this time around, he has strategically used his rags to riches story to place himself as a credible alternative as economic conditions become tough for Zambians. Mr Hichilema’s campaign message is that voters cannot trust the current government to fix the economy “when they are responsible for destroying it” and he assures voters that his UPND is “equipped with the right skills” to do the job. At the same time, Mr Hichilema’s businessman image (and wealth) could cost him some votes. During the MMD’s privatisation mission, he was the head of the Zambia Privatisation Agency’s negotiation team. Some leftist sceptics see him as one of a few Zambians who grew rich by enabling foreign companies to benefit from the privatisation of the country’s natural resources, at the expense of the people. If Mr Hichilema wins, we will expect him to offer a more rational leadership style and to break with Mr Lungu’s confrontational attitude to business. He is also expected to comply with IMF requirements more willingly, which will support the debt restructuring deal with the creditor committee – undoubtedly a positive for macroeconomic stability and future foreign investment (especially at a time of high copper prices, which, if the environment is attractive, imply opportunity in the mining sector). After what happened in 2016, victory for Mr Hichilema would widely be seen as evidence that the polls were fair, especially abroad, which would restore faith in Zambian democratic institutions and boost investor confidence. Business and consumer confidence will also benefit from what we expect will be a friendlier environment for the press and civil society. Mr Hichilema has said that, if he is unsuccessful in August, he will not run for another term – meaning that a loss now would be the end of Zambia’s most prominent liberal’s political career.

Kings Malembe Malembe is not clean, we know his weaknesses -PF member angrily responds over attacks of Joshua Ignila

An angry PF member Chanoda Ngwira has emotionally responded to Gospel artist kings Malembe Malembe for revealing that self-proclaimed prophet Joshua Ignila is an immoral and adulterous person who divorced his wife two years ago.

Ngwira has castigated the gospel artist saying he has overstepped his boundaries by attacking Joshua Ignila who has prophesied that President Lungu will not win the elections.

“I advise my brother and colleague to search himself before judging others coz we have not judged him despite us knowing many of his weaknesses which are in public domain. He needs help and spiritual insights to understand certain things that are beyond him and his well known behavior ”

Meanwhile, Chanoda’s sharp reaction to Kings -whom most PF members see as a defender of President Lungu- has risen suspicions of where Ngwira’s loyalty lies.

In a named PF WhatsApp group, PF members are saying Chanoda Ngwira is behaving like a mercenary from the UPND and is now defending a prophet who is vividly fighting President Lungu on behalf of the opposition.

“After all he was a UPND member and only left after Sata died, for me I can’t be surprised that Chanoda is double-dealing,” one person said.

Chanoda Frackson Ngwira Wrote:

I am a proud member of Champions Royal Assembly under Bro Joshua Ignila, the church has both PF and UPND members, some are MMD, and others belong to other political parties…

The Prophecy by the man of God has been received with mixed feelings especially by us PF members within and outside the church. It has further made UPND members both in and outside the church to start celebrating without knowing and understanding the depth of it.

To UPND members, let’s listen to the Prophecy in its entirety and get the understanding, you will see that HH is said not to be a David but a SOUL under whose rulership people suffered terribly, what does that mean, if by mistake HH rules this country one day, just in case and obviously this is not 2021 coz ECL is definitely winning, the people Will suffer, already that is a warning…

Coming to my fellow PF members both within and outside the church, it is obvious that we could have attached emotions to interpreting the Prophecy which is actually in favour of the PF and Boss ECL despite having used an illustration that has brought an uproar… Let’s take time to understand it very clearly..

Coming to Gospel singers like Kings Mumbi who have gone to an extent of insulting the man of God obviously for purposes of wanting recognition by emotionally charged individuals regards this Prophecy, I advise my brother and colleague to search himself before judging others coz we have not judged him despite us knowing many of his weaknesses which are in public domain. He needs help and spiritual insights to understand certain things that are beyond him and his well known behavior ….

To my party and leadership that I so much love, do not judge us members of that church based on that Prophecy which has generally been misunderstood. We are full time PF and we know ECL and PF are going to be victorious come 12 August, 2021 and some of us have understood the Prophecy in depth ….

Let’s not be quick to interpretation without understanding depths of anything…

Thank you

Nigerian Prophet Joshua Iginla sees tough election, vision of Lungu struggling to sit on falling throne

0

By Chambwa Moonga

NIGERIA’s Champions Royal Assembly prophet Joshua Iginla has prophesied that he saw President Edgar Lungu trying to sit down on his presidential chair but that the more he tries, the seat falls.

On September 5, 2017, The Mast carried a story headlined: “Lungu, leave 2021 and walk out with glory – Prophet Iginla”

In that story, the Prophet told President Lungu not to let anyone push him to contest the 2021 general elections because those saying “Hosanna” to him today would be the ones to crucify him.

The prophet had said while President Lungu was a ‘great man’ who feared God, he was surrounded by many “Judas Iscariots”.

“Don’t let them push you for another 2021 elections; please, deliver what you have now to the Zambian people and walk out with glory,” Prophet Iginla said then. “I don’t see another time for you! If I have said this, I don’t run after the President to give me money. I’m blessed; what am I looking for? I have said the truth. Please, please, the Lord has taken you there and you know what you have to do and take a bow and leave. I’m troubled; Zambia is a peaceful place.”

He added that: “some founding fathers have made the block of Zambia on spiritual principles; follow these principles very much.”

“And I’m saying it, great man His Excellency Lungu, I have sat with him, prayed with him, God-fearing man [but] there are a lot of Judas Iscariots around you – they only want you to fail,” said Prophet Iginla. “They will thwart your government, they will criticise you at last. Those who are saying Hosanna to you now, they shall crucify you tomorrow.”

During Sunday’s Church service on August 1, Prophet Iginla said a prophet does not speak because people want him to speak.

“He speaks because God wants him to speak! Zambia is a great nation. Zambians are lovely people, warm-hearted people! The nation of Zambia is a Christian nation. A nation that will always rise in a committee of all other African countries!” Prophet Iginla said. “God loves Zambia so much. That is why sometimes God will raise a voice to speak in the midst of so many confusions and so many prophecies.”

He said God had sent him as a voice to the nation of Zambia.

We are shocked with the impromptu decision by ECZ to suspend all UPND campaigns in Kanyama – PeP Leader Sean Tembo

0

PeP STATEMENT No.58 ISSUED ON TUESDAY 3rd AUGUST 2021: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

1. As Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) we are shocked with the impromptu decision by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to suspend all UPND campaigns in Kanyama Constituency on account of the recent violence in which two suspected PF cadres were killed by unknown people. Given that we are barely 9 days away from Election Day, this decision by ECZ effectively gives an undue upper-hand to the PF to win the Kanyama Parliamentary seat.

2. As Patriots for Economic Progress, our considered view is that there is no evidence on the basis on which ECZ should invoke such punitive action against UPND. Up to now, the police have not arrested a single suspect related to the brutal murder of the two alleged PF supporters. The only suspects that the police have arrested are the 42 who were apprehended in Kanyama area during a clean-up operation following the murders, and who were charged with possession of offensive weapons. Therefore, given that there are no suspects that have so far been arrested in relation to the murder of the two alleged PF supporters, it is wrong for ECZ to assume that as and when such suspects are arrested, they will belong to the UPND party. It is further wrong for ECZ to invoke drastic punitive action against the UPND on the basis of an assumption.

3. As Patriots for Economic Progress our expectation is that the only scenario in which ECZ can suspend the political campaigns for UPND while allowing those of PF to proceed in Kanyama is if the police have apprehended the suspects in the murder of the alleged PF supporters and those suspects are UPND members and there is evidence that the two murders were sanctioned by the UPND leadership. Otherwise a political party is a large grouping with very loose entry and exit barriers to membership. That means someone can be a UPND or PeP member in the morning and become a PF member in the afternoon. That means it is wrong for ECZ to seek to punish a political party for the alleged misdeeds of its alleged supporters, unless there is ample evidence that such misdeeds were explicitly sanctioned by the leadership of the political party in question.

4. As Patriots for Economic Progress, we wish to call upon the Electoral Commission of Zambia to immediately lift the suspension of UPND campaign activities in Kanyama Constituency because they lack evidence on which to premise such a drastic action. The overall effect of suspending UPND campaigns while allowing PF to continue with their campaigns in Kanyama is that ECZ is giving the Kanyama Parliamentary seat to the PF on a silver platter. Such an overreach by ECZ in an election as crucial as this one should not be accepted by any well-meaning Zambians. The PF and UPND should be allowed to compete on an equal footing in Kanyama without the effort by ECZ to tilt the scales.

5. As Patriots for Economic Progress, we have no doubt in our minds that the Electoral Commission of Zambia has acted in a biased manner by suspending campaign activities for UPND in Kanyama when the police are still investigating the murders of two alleged PF supporters and they have not yet apprehended any suspects for the murders. If the Commission insists on maintaining their arbitrary and unfounded decision, they risk further losing credibility as a neutral referee in this year’s general elections. Instead Zambians may perceive ECZ as an extension of the PF party. Such a portrayal will have dire consequences on the entire electoral process as most Zambians may find it difficult to accept the electoral outcome, should it be adverse to their expectation. The only way for ECZ to redeem itself is by revoking the suspension of UPND campaign activities in Kanyama, until such a time that they have solid evidence on which to premise their decision.

Thank You and May God Bless the Good Citizens of the Republic of Zambia and Our Ailing Nation.

I and my people will cast our votes on Edgar Lungu – Mozambican headman

0

[By Richard Luo in Mozambique]

A TRADITIONAL leader in Mozambique says he and other citizens of that country will travel to Zambia to vote for Patriotic Front presidential candidate Edgar Lungu on August 12, 2021.

In an interview, headman Kweze Dalisa Banda of chief Chimfombo talked about massive benefits that Mozambicans have accessed from Zambia under President Lungu’s leadership.

He said those benefits have prompted them to want to vote for him.

Banda said Zambia on two occasions came to the aid of Mozambicans by keeping them as refugees in Nyimba and Ukwimi during the time of wars in the country.

“I, as a traditional leader, and my people we will cast our vote on Edgar Lungu and his MPs because there is benefit in PF,” he said. “They treat us well in hospitals, our children receive education from Zambia. We do business from there freely even reaching Lusaka without being harassed.”

Banda revealed that his subjects and him got voters’ cards from Mpeni village and the polling station is Chokato Community School.

However, he said out of 420 people in his village only 57 managed to access voters’ cards.

He said the 57 were ready to vote for PF candidates.

“We are very much prepared to see to it that on 12th August, we go to Zambia to cast a vote. We will carry our cards to go and vote. Even mobility we have put in place but if there is anything more, we can appreciate so that people can go and vote in good numbers,” Banda said.

He expressed worry that if PF loses elections, things would not be ok because poverty levels would escalate in Mozambique.

“If Edgar Lungu loses, then problems will multiply to the level that even us here poverty levels will rise…” said Banda.

But Benard Phiri, an Induna, said people of the area desire to take part in the elections but they were scared of being harassed by the opposition.

“We desire to come and vote but we don’t know if we will be permitted in case the opposition regard us as foreigners. We are afraid but the ruling party officials have encouraged us to go and vote freely as long we have tools,” he explained. “The current President (Lungu) is ok because he takes care of the existing relations between Zambia and Mozambique.”

Phiri appealed to the PF to send campaign regalia such as branded chitenge, T/shirts and sweaters so that people master the President’s face and relate to it on the ballot box.
“…we haven’t received anything to give us power and confidence,” said Phiri.

Bernard Zulu, 29, said some youths were ready to cross into Zambia to vote.

“We are going on Edgar Lungu of PF because he has done roads, hospitals and many more which we see when we go to Zambia. We have seen the wonders he has done for Zambia,” he said.
Zulu said some residents had their roots in Zambia but had stayed in Mozambique for many years.

Recently, Mozambican chief Kaduku said the Mozambique government had urged all Zambians in that country to respect their electoral wishes by travelling to vote.

“Mozambican government will allow Zambians to go and vote for their leaders as one way to exercise their constitutional rights. They will come but we won’t allow Mozambicans to risk their lives by taking part in foreign electoral system. They shouldn’t just like Zambians here never took part in the elections of our nation…” said Kaduku.

The Results Of This Election Are Not Difficult To Tell

0

THE RESULTS OF THIS ELECTION ARE NOT DIFFICULT TO TELL

The Candidates’ Comment Afternoon

With a few days before the eventual casting of votes takes place, many honest analytical people can tell the outcome. Zambians have no better option, among the top contenders in these elections.

It is not a secret that the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has become undesirable to the people of Zambia. A party that won power on account of being pro-poor has become a corrupt and thugerous get-together of all sorts of crooks.

Many elements in PF are filthy rich but without any businesses or economic activities to point at, to substantiate their wealth. Most – if not all- they have is a sum accumulation of corruption, tenderpreneurship and plunder of taxpayers money through a systematic way embedded under their robust infrastructure development agenda. Most of the monies cited to have been put into infrastructure development in Zambia has ended up in the pockets of crooks in the ruling. By extension, those monies have also gone into the pockets of associates of these elements and their cadres. That is why, a cadre of the ruling PF is very rich today. You may have spent many years studying but you remain a nobody compared to a PF cadre. You may be working in the private or public sector but whatever small change you collect at the end of the month as a salary is nothing compared to the kind of money which the cadres of the ruling party plays with. This country has become a society where the status of a cadre is now equivalent to that of a minister. Given the kind of luxurious lifestyles which PF cadres live, it is now fashionable to be identified as a cadre than any other profession there is. Even when you want to marry, you are respected more if the family you want to marry from learns that you are a cadre of the PF. This is the extent to which cadres in Zambia have gained influence and respect because of the riches they have accumulated from the corruption in the PF administration.

Amidst plenty for these crooks, these jackals, there is hunger and poverty in Zambia. Many people are struggling to make ends meet. It doesn’t matter whether or not you work. Whatever small money that you get paid is being swallowed by the high cost of living. To PF and its supporters, there is no hunger in Zambia and everyone must celebrate whatever things they have built across the country regardless of how questionable the cost is. As such, Zambians are fed up with PF.

On another hand, the main opposition party, the United Party for National Development (UPND) remains an untrusted grouping which appears more of a regionalised party than anything else. This party has struggled to clean itself from a tribal tag and often than not, exhibits high levels of regionalised politics. When you look at UPND very well, it remains a regional party despite it’s cosmetic attempts of renting certain elements from other regions to paint an impression that they have a national character. But regardless of their efforts to rent individuals of certain tribes, their true character is written all over their actions. If you want to know someone, pay less attention to what they say they are but more to their behavior. Look at the adoptions of the UPND in Lusaka. Over 95% of their adopted candidates on all layers of leadership come from one region. Look at their adoption in Central province! Majority of those adopted come from the same region as those adopted in Lusaka. This tells you how regionalised these elements are. If they can be this regionalised in adoptions, what guarantee do Zambians have that if voted for they will not import this tribalism in governance? Further, UPND has some of the most intolerant supporters and members who only believe in their personal feelings and demons. You are not seen as a human being if you hold a different view from these elements.

We dare say- and we know that many honest people agree with us that – regionalism of UPND is as evil as the corruption of PF. Many people detest PF at the moment but many of those that do so are skeptical to trust the UPND. People are saying we know that things are bad under PF but we can’t make a mistake to vote for a tribal party.

It is so much on this basis that one must not fail to see the outcome of these elections which we believe will spill over to a rerun. None between PF and UPND controls the majority of voters to warrant an outright win in the first round. We also know that other parties are too insignificant to amass votes that can change anything for them.

The voting pattern in this election has gone back to its default where UPND will most likely win in Southern, Western, Northwestern and a larger part of Central provinces, as has always been the case. On the other hand, the PF will win in Eastern, Luapula, Northern and Muchinga provinces. While it remains unclear who will win in Copperbelt and Lusaka, whoever gets these two provinces must win with more than 90% for it to make sense in the first round.

LET’HELP LUNGU REST…current leadership has run its race and we are done with them – Chisala

0

BISHOP Timothy Chisala says Zambians need to help President Edgar Lungu to rest.

He says August 12, is a very important day for the country’s history.

In an interview ahead of next week’s presidential and general elections, Bishop Chisala said Zambians cannot afford another five years of PF and President Edgar Lungu.

The General Overseer of All Nations Church International said some leaders need to be helped to rest.

“It is us the citizens to help our leaders to rest. If things are not going well, yet we have leaders who are surrounded by surrogates who tell them lies, we the citizens have the responsibility to help our leaders to rest. So the Zambian people need to help President Edgar Lungu to rest,” Bishop Chisala urged. “This year’s election is very important. August 12 which is just next week is very important in the history of this country. We will make right decisions for our great country. We have no option but to rest the current leadership that we have. They have run their race and we say we are done. But Zambians now need serious leadership that will move them from the economic hardships.”

And Bishop Chisala has expressed concern with the levels of violence, especially in Lusaka.

He said the Commander-In-Chief, President Edgar Lungu, should be seen to act and stop the vice.

He said the PF are the ones on the driving seat and that it is the President who can stop any form of violence.

“It is the Commander-In-Chief, who is the President, who can stop this violence. If the President is not seen to act, then it will be a different story and this will continue,” he said.

“President Edgar Lungu should not be a victim of his cadres. These are monsters that we have hiding in the name of cadres and supporting the President. We will not support any form of violence coming from the PF or the UPND, or any other opposition political party. We would like to strongly condemn the violence that we have seen in Lusaka over the past days.”

Bishop Chisala believes that the August 12 general elections would be violent free because people have already made up their minds.

“This election is about the poverty of the people. So this violence is not helping and it is only perpetuated by political thugs who do not even have voter’s cards. The real voters have already made up their minds,” said Bishop Chisala. “It is therefore, wrong for any leader to use violence as a way to gain votes. This is unacceptable.”

Vernon Mwaanga condemns deployment of soldiers ahead of elections next week

0

By Masuzyo Chakwe

VETERAN politician Vernon Mwaanga says President Edgars Lungu’s call out to the Zambia Defence Forces to help the Zambia Police Service to police the electoral process sets a bad and unwelcome precedent for the future.

Mwaanga said this was the first time since independence in October 1964
that the military forces were being involved in policing the electoral process.

In a statement, Mwaanga said violence of whatever form or shape was barbaric and totally unacceptable.

He said the escalation of political and election related violence in the recent past, taints the image of the country in the eyes of the world and discourages international investors.

“It undermines our hard earned democracy, which is in sharp decline.
The two major political parties – PF and UPND – recently signed a Peace Accord. But even before the ink had dried on their signatures, inter-party violence erupted,” he said.

“Sadly, this accord did not include an independent monitoring mechanism for the accord, to name and shame those who breach the body and spirit of the accord. We have witnessed party cadres forcibly removing election posters of opponents, cadres in hired buses and trucks wielding pangas and other dangerous weapons, roaming our streets with aggressive intent.”

He said the freedom and confidence with which they display and show off their machetes and other dangerous weapons was alarming.

Mwaanga said cadres attack and burn offices of political opponents with impunity.

He said this new culture of violence was alien to Zambia, which used to be an oasis of relative peace.

Mwaanga said elections were a process and not a single event.

“They provide the citizens with an opportunity to exercise their Constitutional right to freely choose their President, member of parliament and local councillor every five years. Elections do not represent war. They are a competition of ideas. They offer candidates an opportunity to tell the voters what solutions they are offering citizens for the problems the country is facing and they are many,” he said.

He said the economy was facing very serious problems, which had been exercabated by the pandemic.

“The kwacha had been in decline – not withstanding recent sudden gains made by the Kwacha against major world currencies, which at best are artificial: inflation has been rising at an alarming rate, which is eroding incomes of citizens, particularly those in the lower income brackets, who are struggling to put food on their table;: high unemployment, particularly among young people; high levels of corruption, which is making citizens poorer, as leaders, who had virtually nothing five years ago, now have unexplained wealth; many government hospitals and clinics don’t have medicines; prices of essential commodies are sky rocketing; government retired civil servants wait for years for their benefits and some die even before they receive their benefits. Now civil servants are being offered a ‘debt swap’, which will most likely end up into a ‘debt trap’. The national debt has reached unsustainable levels, which has led to default in debt repayments. This list is not exhaustive, but merely indicative,” he said.

Mwaanga said there were serious questions being raised regarding the uneven election campaign space and suspicious gadgets being brought on hired aircraft from Dubai, for which no credible explanation has been provided by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

He said in an atmosphere where politicians do not trust each other, it creates justifyable suspicion.

Mwaanga said it was undeniable that the current politicians had created a toxic environment never seen before.

“Now President Edgar Lungu has decided to call out the Zambia Defence Forces to get involved in helping the Zambia Police Service to police the Electoral process. This is the first time that the military forces are being involved in policing the Electoral process since independence in October 1964. It sets a bad and unwelcome precedent for the future,” he said.

“Part of the reasons for the toxic environment have to do with the irresponsible zealots, who have been making irresponsible tribal and hate speeches, who have gone unpunished. This is not the Zambia we fought for. This is not the Zambia we want. The people of Zambia must remain united in upholding the spirit of One Zambia, One Nation’, which has served our country well since independence. Love, mutual respect and unity have hallmarks of the Zambia we want to bequeath to future generations.”

He said tribalism and hatred were evil and enemies of progress.

“We must continue to reject them and pour scorn on them. When all is said and done, we would like to have free, fair, credible and democratic elections, which meet acceptable international standards. The voting and tallying process must be observed at each and every stage, right up to the announcing results, which must genuinely represent the wishes of the people of Zambia,” he said.

“This is desirable so that the people of Zambia can have confidence in the electoral process, which is now at a low ebb. Elections will come and go, leaders will also come and go, but as Zambians, it is our individual and collective duty to play our part in maintaining peace and tranquility in our country. This is the role all responsible citizens must play. Our law enforcement agencies must also play their part by dealing firmly those who threaten or engage in violence in equal measure regardless of political or other affiliations.”

Zimbabwean prophet who shave woman’s private part in court

A self-styled Zimbabwean prophet in Macheke has been dragged before court by a 19-year-old married woman who claims he shaved her privates and head against her will during a cleansing ceremony held at a Johanne Masowe yeChishanu shrine.

The incident happened in Macheke where Moreblessing Kuziwomunhu claimed that she was forced by her mother in-law Evelyn Zenda to get her shaved by a prophet at the shrine so as to avoid miscarriage upon giving birth.

The shaving was conducted during a night prayer and the shaved hair were taken to a sacred cave (ninga).

Irked by the act, Moreblessing informed her mother identified as Mai Kuzivamunhu before dragging Zenda to Chief Mangwende’s court.

Moreblessing told H-Metro that she was shaved while three men were pressing her from her back in the absence of her husband Gilfas Mundicha, 27.

“I had not been going to church for long and my mother in law invited me citing that the spirit wanted to say something to me. Upon arriving at the shrine, one of the prophets stood up and gave prophecy on me that with or without my consent I was not going to leave the shrine until I get my hair removed.

“One of the church members was quick to say she had a pair of scissors and three men who assigned to stand at my back during the cleansing. I was shaved while someone was pouring water all over my body and their reason was to protect my pregnancy,” she said.

Moreblessing said she was told to take the hair to the cave.

“They gave me the hair in which I was told to mix it with charcoal and put it in a white cloth before taking it to the cave around 9 pm. Some few days we had a quarrel with my mother in-law over an issue before I ended up apologizing.

“That was the reason I could not deny to undergo the cleansing ceremony she suggested for me. Upon returning home I informed my husband who was bitter about it, to which I told my mother the following morning,” said Moreblessing in tears.

Gilfas said that the cleansing ceremony was carried without his blessings and is not a member of the Johanne Masowe yeChishanu who conducted the unholy prayers on Moreblessing.

“I am not a follower of that church although I used to believe some of their prayers. As for the shaving of my wife, I was not informed and I do not believe in such prayers as well,” he said.

Zenda said hat the shaving was conducted while she was asleep at the shrine although she was the one who took Moreblessing for the cleansing ceremony.

“To be honest the shaving was done the time I was asleep and I do not know who exactly shaved her. I was aware of the prophecies made on Moreblessing concerning her pregnancy and that was what I wanted it be done to safeguard her from the spirit of witchcraft. Iye anoziva zvakaitika saka taida kuti zvisadzokorore,” she said.

Mai Kuziwomunhu reported the case to a village head and the matter was referred to chief Mangwende where Zenda was expected to appear last Friday.

Mexico holds referendum on prosecuting ex-presidents

0

Mexicans began voting Sunday in a national referendum promoted by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on whether to investigate and prosecute his predecessors for alleged corruption.
Lopez Obrador, a self-styled anti-graft crusader, says the public consultation will strengthen participatory democracy, but critics see it as little more than a political stunt.

To be binding, 37.4 million people — 40 percent of the electoral roll — must participate, but many voters appear unenthusiastic.

While the “yes” vote could win up to 90 percent, it will be difficult to achieve even 30 percent turnout, said Roy Campos, director of the polling company Mitofsky.

Rosario Gomez is among those who plan to vote at one of 57,000 ballot boxes set up by the electoral institute, compared with more than 160,000 for June’s legislative and local elections.

“It’s about time these thieves pay!” the 52-year-old market vendor said.

Polls opened at 8 am (1300 GMT) and were due to close at 6 pm, with the result expected to be known within two or three days.

– ‘Political circus’ -Mexico is ranked 124th out of 179 on Transparency International’s world corruption perceptions index.

But former presidents can be tried like any other citizen and critics argue that the referendum is unnecessary.

“Waiting for the results of a consultation is making justice a political circus,” said Jose Miguel Vivanco, regional director of New York-based Human Rights Watch.

Former National Electoral Institute president Luis Carlos Ugalde argued that if the prosecution has evidence against the ex-presidents, it’s not necessary for “the people to tell you yes or no.”

Although the vote was Lopez Obrador’s brainchild, he has ruled out voting himself because he does not want “corrupt and hypocritical conservatism” to accuse him of vindictiveness.

The referendum question proposed by Lopez Obrador named five predecessors — Carlos Salinas, Ernesto Zedillo, Vicente Fox, Felipe Calderon, and Enrique Pena Nieto, whose terms in power stretched from 1988 to 2018.

Lopez Obrador has accused them of presiding over “excessive concentration of wealth, monumental losses to the treasury, privatization of public property, and widespread corruption,” drawing angry denials.

In the end, the Supreme Court modified the referendum question for a more ambiguous alternative.

“It’s not very sexy. Not even the lawyers understand it,” analyst Paula Sofia Vazquez told AFP.

– ‘Final straw’ -The question reads: “Do you agree or not that the pertinent actions be carried out, in accordance with the constitutional and legal framework, to undertake a process of clarification of the political decisions made in the past years by the political actors, aimed at guaranteeing justice and the rights of potential victims?”

Omar Garcia, a survivor of the disappearance and presumed murder of 43 students in 2014, allegedly at the hands of corrupt police and drug traffickers, said listening to the people was valid even if it was not binding.

“It does encourage an end to impunity,” Garcia said.

But 59-year-old manager Monica Ortiz-Monasterio has no plan to vote and thinks it is “the final straw to ask if crimes are prosecuted or left unpunished.”

Why Kenya barred its Deputy President from travelling to Uganda

0

enya’s Deputy President William Ruto was set for a private trip from Kenya to Uganda, the second time in a month, but was stopped by the immigration officers at the airport on Monday.

Local media reported that immigration officials insisted that Ruto had to get clearance from the head of state, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto was traveling alongside the other three members of parliament who first denied clearance but were later allowed to fly.

Reports further indicated that among other passengers was the presence of a Turkish businessman by the name Harun Aydin.

Harun Aydin, 29, was arrested in Germany while he was a student. It was alleged that he was among the leading members of the militant group based in Cologne known as the “Caliph of the Cologne”.

The group wanted to unite the Islamic world in a single caliphate based in a liberated Istanbul.

Harun Aydin was among the passengers that intended to fly together with Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto to the neighboring country, Uganda.

Authorities in Kenya were aroused by Aydin’s frequent trips to the country from Istanbul, Cairo, and Addis Ababa.

Local media reports indicate that Aydin has made several visits alongside Kenya’s Deputy President including his last trip to Zanzibar and also in a previous visit to Uganda.

Kenya’s news wave on Monday evening was dominated by the fact that the government had barred Ruto, whose relation with the current President Uhuru Kenyatta has turned sour.

The duo was considered close allies when they won Kenya’s election both in 2013 and 2017 with Ruto depicting utmost solid support to Kenyatta hoping to be backed up in the forthcoming national election.

Kenyatta who is ineligible to stand is alleged to be backing former prime minister and veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, against an old understanding with his deputy.

Ruto has linked this recent move to political humiliation terming it cowardice of his foes.

“I have been stopped from flying to Uganda because the system believes only the children of the rich and famous can fly to foreign countries and dine with Presidents. But we have God and we will overcome. I am putting the tribalists and dynasties on notice that our patience has run out and we will not take any more humiliation. Let the face me openly instead of hiding behind their lowly serfs the civil service,” Ruto said.

How the U.S. Scared Off Idi Amin From Bombing Nairobi After Entebbe Raid

0

analysis
By John Kamau

When US Navy aircraft carrier, USS Guam, sailed to the Kilindini harbour on Friday, December 10, 1976, the only thing Kenyans noticed was the formation spelling on its deck: “Kenya 76”.

Had anyone known that the mission was about scaring Uganda’s Idi Amin, it would have earned international attention. And as Kenyans attended the December 12, 1976 Jamhuri Day celebrations, they did not know that behind the scenes were credible intelligence reports on possible terror attacks by President Amin that day; the reason why the US Navy had brought three ships to Mombasa.

The media was also duped and it all went as planned. There was a military fly-by – and diplomatically, Uganda had noted that Kenyatta had the US support. That was all he needed and Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, had approved the exercise.

During the celebration, at Nairobi’s Jamhuri Park, Foreign Minister Dr Munyua Waiyaki and Attorney General, Charles Njonjo watched the fly-by with amusement.

“(They) beamed at me from a distance, making thumbs up signal,” wrote US Ambassador to Kenya Anthony Marshall in a cable marked ‘Secret,’ describing the fly-by as a “resounding success”.

The ambassador, perhaps over the moon, also noted that the matter had not, as they plotted, got any publicity: “Press under-reported, and at no time alluded to participation as being anything but ceremonial.”

Besides Dr Waiyaki and Mr Njonjo, the only other civilian official who had been briefed was Defence Permanent Secretary Jeremiah Kiereini, who had eclipsed the sober-challenged minister, James Gichuru.

So serious was the threat that the US intelligence had worked behind the scenes to secure Nairobi without raising any alarm. That morning, and during the celebrations, Kenyans witnessed, and for the first time, US pilots make what was thought to be a “ceremonial fly-by”.

It wasn’t. They were sending a signal to Idi Amin – or whoever had intention of bombing Nairobi – that they were in town.

On November 23, 1976, Marshall, the US Ambassador, wrote a secret cable to the Bureau of Intelligence and Research of the State Department saying that “there is a possibility that some sort of terrorist/military attack in Kenya could occur on December 12.”

“While some type of attack cannot be ruled out, embassy believes that the use of Eastleigh Air Base by aircraft from USS Guam will afford far better security than use of Nairobi’s civil airport which past reports have indicated as possible target for terrorist activity,” Marshalls wrote.

Was there fear that Amin could bomb Nairobi’s Embakasi airport? Perhaps.

To forestall that, the embassy was to coordinate the security arrangements and send 12 AV-8 Harrier aircraft to Eastleigh as a standby. Initially, it had been agreed that the US and Kenya would make separate, but agreed upon, statements about the arrival of the three ships. Apart from Mr Njonjo and Dr Waiyaki, only a few other Kenyans were privy to the secret arrangements. Even the foreign ambassadors in Nairobi did not have a clue on what was happening.

The embassy made sure that even their own press officers remained mute on the subject.

“Unless otherwise instructed, the Embassy PAO (Public Affairs Office) will make no release but will be prepared to respond to press queries on basis of mutually agreed announcement,” Marshall had proposed.

The US Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, had on December 4, 1976 given instructions on how the matter should be handled in a confidential note that was sent to 24 embassies in the Indian Ocean zone. He told the envoys that if they are approached by the host officials or press following the announcement in Nairobi, they should say that this is a “routine” visit.

It had been agreed that two days before the celebrations, the Kenyatta government would issue a statement to Voice of Kenya (VOK) announcing that three US Navy Vessels, including the amphibious assault aircraft carrier, USS Guam, would be “visiting” the port of Mombasa at the invitation of the Kenya government.

It all went well and the statement had been given to the Kenya News Agency which also supplied the accompanying aerial photograph of the ship deck.

And just in case any journalist, or foreign government queried this visit; the US Embassy had been provided with some standard answers: “US naval visits to Mombasa are routine. Kenyan government invited US participation in its independence ceremony this year if availability of appropriate units permitted (and) given availability of USS Guam with compliment of aircraft suitable for a fly-by the US government decided to accept Kenyan invitation.”

The guidance was also sent to the US ambassador to Uganda, Richard Ellerkman – just in case Idi Amin asked.

He was told: “If Uganda queries suggest presumption of hostile intent behind US actions … state that fly-by is ceremonial in nature and in no way directed to any other country.”

For his part, the US Ambassador to Tanzania was asked in a secret cable from the Department of State to, in private conversations, express hope that the fly-by will not be “misinterpreted as being anything other than a small gesture on our part to accommodate (Kenyan’s) desire to embellish their independence anniversary ceremony.”

Kenya’s ill-equipped air force

The USS Guam was accompanied by a guided missile destroyer, USS Claude V. Ricketts and a destroyer, USS Dupont.

By then, Kenya had an ill-equipped air force with a handful of what diplomats called “antiquated British-built aircraft” while Idi Amin had managed to secure 30 Soviet-built combat aircraft including MiG-17 and MiG-19 fighters. Kenya, by then, was still negotiating with the US to get some second-hand F-5 fighters and had sent Mwai Kibaki and Vice President Daniel arap Moi to negotiate.

But as Idi Amin continued to make threats following the July 3, 1976 Israeli raid on Entebbe, Jomo Kenyatta was getting worried that Kenya was badly exposed – and only a show of pseudo-might could work, in the interim.

Back in Washington, the Department of State spokesman had been drilled on how to answer questions, dodge others – and divert queries to Pentagon.

For instance: What type of aircraft will be used in the fly-by and how many aircraft will be involved? His answer would be: “You would have to ask defence for the technical details, but for your information I understand that the aircraft involved will be AV-8 Harriers, a vertical take-off jet… ”

Question: “But isn’t it a bit unusual that three US Navy ships and a complement of aircraft just happen to be in Mombasa during the Kenyan Independence Day celebrations?”

Answer: “Well, in the first place it is not unusual for US Navy ships to be in Mombasa. US Naval visits to Mombasa are a routine occurrence.” He would also say that it is Kenyans who invited them and “since the Guam was available with aircraft which were suitable for a fly-by, we decided to accept the Kenyan invitation.”

And if a knowledgeable journalist asked how USS Guam, which was normally stationed in the Mediterranean, was “available” the spokesman would dodge the question by saying that only Pentagon could answer that question with a rider that “I am not sure it is their usual policy to comment on ship locations.”

There was the fear that if the USS Guam visit was simultaneously announced by Nairobi and Washington, the degree of attention could increase and that could lead to “misinterpretation” – which was Kenya’s concern.

On December 14, Marshall reported back: “President Kenyatta was obviously pleased with fly-past, but did not mention it in his speech.” He also reported that the Kenya Army Commander, Maj General Jackson Mulinge and Air Force Commander Col Dedan Gichuru went to Eastleigh after the festivities – and skipped the garden party. Civilians who lived within the

Eastleigh Air base were allowed to walk by the helicopters and the jets.

On the same day, Kiereini spoke with the US Deputy Chief of Mission, Ralph Lindstrom and it was reported that he was “ecstatic” over success of fly-by.

“He said that President Kenyatta had been very impressed and that Attorney General Njonjo remarked immediately after fly-by that it was a pity there were no more planes,” Marshall reported.

According to Kiereini, the low-key manner in which press announcements had been made probably accounts in part for the absence of public reaction by Somalia and Uganda, “who nevertheless undoubtedly got message that Kenya has a friend.”

While Kenya had shown Idi Amin – who was receiving Soviet support – that it had support from Washington, the US ambassador described the mission as “an excellent example of how US military power can be discreetly used to support US foreign policy objectives.”

Africa Can Prevent Ethiopia From Going Down Rwanda’s Path – Here’s How

0

When Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 2019, I congratulated him in a public US and Africa dialogue forum. I thought he deserved the prize, given what he had done. In particular he showed a calm and responsible interest in listening to all community grievances to avoid outbursts of war.

Today, under Abiy’s watch, Ethiopia has descended into a political and humanitarian crisis that threatens the very survival of the federal state. There are reports of ethnic groups in various regions mobilising local militias to take sides in the ongoing war in Tigray and surrounding regions. The war between Tigray rebel forces and allied government troops from Ethiopia and Eritrea has been marked by massacres and sexual violence. Thousands have been killed and now hundreds of thousands are at risk of famine.

The ethnic nature of conflict is not new. It was evident in 17 years of authoritarianism and war that lasted between 1974 and 1991. It drove the sporadic outbursts of micro-wars, pitting ethnic group against ethnic group, and region against region. The result was the famine of 1984.

That cycle is repeating itself in nearly one year of war between two armed agents of related names – Tigray Defence Forces, and Ethiopian National Defence Forces. Ethiopian specialists who have studied this cyclical phenomenon fear for the survival of a multi-ethnic Ethiopia. The fear is that there will be a permanent state of ethnic warfare.

In my mind, two factors should be raising alarm bells about the current situation. One is paralysis in intervening to end the conflict – both internationally and from within Africa. The other is the rhetoric of genocide that has crept into the public discourse. Both factors are all too reminiscent of the prelude to the Rwanda genocide in 1994.

As I argue in my analysis of international inaction in Rwanda, Africa needs to embrace a new approach that focuses on what countries in an embattled region can do to intervene. This approach should be a moral conversation that explores plausible ways in which a region and its community of people and nation-states can act, collectively, to prevent genocide.

Africa should seize its moment in Ethiopia.

Community response

More than two decades after the genocide in Rwanda, published reflections on that catastrophe tread a familiar path. They focus, understandably, on the root causes of the genocide and the international response to it.

On the response theme, they decry the tepid reaction of the international community. This is a coded description of the US as a superpower and the United Nations as the mandated international organisation. This narrative highlights what this particular community of nations could have done – yet failed to do – to stop the killing after it had begun

This analytic approach to the genocide in Rwanda assumes that African countries are either incapable of, or not at all responsible for, solving problems in their neighbourhoods. Or, worse, that only the US or the UN are responsible for or capable of stopping genocide wherever it occurs. This assumption overstates the ability or willingness of both to shoulder this immense responsibility. It also undervalues the obligations of local communities to become guardians of their neighbourhoods.

The community approach is anchored in UN principles first outlined at a summit in September 2005. The summit called on all its member states to accept the new principle of the

responsibility to protect populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

While the aims are laudable the “responsibility to protect” has its drawbacks. In countries such as China and Russia the concept is dismissed as a western instrument for “regime change“.

In Africa, the history of colonial rule gives purveyors of hate crimes a potent and emotional tool to characterise western interventions as another form of imperialism or neo-colonialism dressed up as a moral responsibility to protect.

In my view new strategies of genocide prevention in Africa should be developed that don’t depend on international actors but primarily on national governments. As a moral principle, the right to protect can best be implemented through local and regional groups, with some foreign help.

Thus, I have proposed the alternative strategy – an obligation to prevent.

Obligation to prevent in practice

Ethiopia imploding would put the entire East African region in peril. It would threaten the seat of the African Union, which is currently Addis Ababa. It would tarnish the image of Africa as well as that of a nation that has a unique historical connection to international law. Ethiopia was the first nation to sign the UN Genocide Convention and associate itself with the ideals of peace and genocide-prevention.

It is not too late for Ethiopia’s leaders and all Ethiopians to reflect on the promise of Ethiopia’s moral past and the obligations of its present: an obligation to prevent the current situation in Tigray from descending into a genocide.

But Ethiopia can’t avoid disaster on its own. It needs the community of African countries to put their energies to the task of avoiding an implosion in the country.

DEPRESSION IN SALARIES

0

by Laura Miti.
Simple maths is like this:
If, when the PF came to power, in 2011, your salary was K5000, you earned $1000 a month. You could do a lot of stuff including paying for international exams. (Painfully maybe, but you could.)

In other words, you earned the equivalent of K22,000 at today’s exchange rate.
If your salary has doubled to K10,000

since 2011, (unlikely, but let’s be generous) you now earn just under $500. Your salary has, in real terms, halved.

If you are at the same K5000, you now earn less than $250. Your buying power is now a quarter of what it was.

Meanwhile, prices have trebled. Take bread, which was at K5 or thereabouts, in 2011. It now goes up to K20. An egg has gone from 50n to K2.50.
In short, unless your salary has trebled since 2011, you have had to make major cuts in your lifestyle. You have touched even basics like food and maybe changed your children’s school (which you liked) to a cheaper one. As for help to the extended family, you make more excuses and are probably resentful of requests.

It is the above that the PF has to explain point by point.
How did we get here, given that it’s been a stable 10 years, capped by the highest copper prices in recent history?

I can help them – their reckless borrowing and then stealing of the debt money is what has left a big hole in the fiscus which we Zambians are now paying for. For evidence of the wanton stealing, reference the Auditor General’s And FIC reports. Check out too the miraculous wealth that has been acquired by the top brass in PF.

The rest, especially how they intend to take us out of this hole, given that they are asking for a new term, we need to hear from them.

We also would love to know how, if they did not steal like I am saying they did, the President and his Ministers and cadres got so rich while the country’s economy fell apart and the people became impoverished.

If the President and his former Ministers are too busy campaigning to answer these questions, they can send their proxies Kambwili, Nawakwi, GBM and Kabimba to explain they mysteries to us.
I mean, instead of giving us headaches with tribal nonsense and stories about prices in South Africa.

Deploying soldiers now will fuel insinuations of vote rigging – Zitukule

0

ZITUKULE Consortium says it has noted with interest the announcement by the Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General William Sikazwe that the military command stands ready to help the Zambia Police Service to maintain pubic peace, law and order ahead of the August 12 general elections.

In a statement, Zitukule Consortium executive director Nicholas Phiri stated that while it acknowledged the importance of a peaceful environment before, during and after elections, the national security services which include the Zambia Police Service, the Zambia Correctional Service and Zambia State Intelligence Service had all the infrastructure, resources and ability to detect, prevent and curb serious crimes, including political violence in the country.

He stated that it would not be wise to deploy soldiers specifically to man a civic activity such as a general election.

“We are aware that the Republican Constitution does provide for collaboration between and among defence forces and homeland security services. However, the conditions and context prevailing in the country today do not justify the deployment of soldiers ahead of or during the election. Like in the past, the Zambia Police Service has been able to police elections and they should be able to do the same even now given that more financial resources have been invested in homeland security in the past three years than any other time in the recent history of our country,” Phiri said. “Today, the country has security cameras dotted around the country as well as a Command Centre for Public Safety together costing the country about US $500 million, among other security infrastructure.”

He said the deployment of soldiers should be the last resort and only an option when the Zambia Police Service working together with other homeland security agencies fail to curb the situation in the country.

Phiri said premature deployment of soldiers would have a chilling effect on the electoral integrity in general, including instilling fear in the electorates in general and in rural areas in particular to freely exercise their right to vote.

Further, Phiri said the deployment of soldiers would fuel insinuations of vote rigging by the incumbent President using the military.

“It must be remembered that the incumbent is not only a presidential candidate in this election, but also the Commander-In-Chief of armed forces,” he said.

Phiri urged President Lungu to set aside partisan interests, review the performance of the Inspector General of Police, Kakoma Kanganja in line with the objectives he set for him in the six-month performance based contract which expired in June and take necessary corrective measures to bring back professionalism and public confidence in the Zambia Police Service.

Don’t relax that HH has already won, cautions Levy Ngoma

0

DON’T relax saying HH awina kudala, Sinda Constituency UPND candidate Levy Ngoma has cautioned members.

He has also urged voters to remain at the polling stations to protect their vote after voting.

Ngoma, the party’s national management member in charge of agriculture, addressed people on Friday when Hichilema visited the district.

He called on the party members never to relax until after August 12 when UPND takes over government.

“Hakainde Hichilema is happy with what you showed him, the love you have showed him and he says what you have done to him, he will never forget you,” he told a multitude of Sinda residents.

Ngoma said the UPND had gained ground in Eastern Province.

“Cipani ca UPND kuno kumawa cadya moto (UPND in Eastern Province is fired up), we have hammered them (PF). Please, let’s keep our faith. Don’t lose hope, it’s just a while, we will be happy. 12th August is a day of redemption, let’s go and vote. Don’t relax saying HH awina kudala…please let’s protect our votes. Don’t leave the polling stations after voting, protect your votes,” urged Ngoma.

Sinda council chairperson candidate Davide Tembo said UPND would engage in development talk, not violence.

He said the erecting of streetlights that do not even work was development of the illiterate.
He assured the people that under the UPND, fertiliser which has become inaccessible would only cost K250.

Tembo said from the time Edgar Lungu became President, everything had collapsed because he was a failure himself.

“When Chagwa became the President, fertiliser was K250 but now we can’t talk…Agriculture has collapsed because his name is Chagwa,” he said.

Tembo further said the PF government was under pressure from the UPND.

“Tabafaka pressure and bainvela (We have put them under pressure and they can feel it). Let’s give them more pressure. Let’s choose government that will take care of the poor. In hospitals, there are no medicines as patients are given prescriptions to buy drugs on their own, no gloves but on TV they say they have done this and that! liars!” said Tembo.

Kapoche Constituency independent candidate Emmanuel Nkhoma, who also joined Hichilema’s convoy, said it was time to change and move forward.

He said no person in Zambia could demarcate the nation which belongs to all Zambians.

A Sinda cyclist Royd Phiri said there was potential in Hichilema.

Phiri expressed confidence that things would be better when Hichilema forms government.

“I am waiting for Hakainde Hichilema who is coming from Katete so that…glad when I see him. I want to give him support so that my soul gets relief. I have seen that Hakainde is the only one who will bring development that will place my life at peace than suffering,” said Phiri.
And Michelle Njobvu lamented hardships under the Lungu leadership.

“We pay K350 to give birth in St Francis, so we want to change the president so that things can be better. I like and love HH because I believe he can bring better development than Edgar Lungu,” said Njobvu.

Hichilema had no chance of talking to people as his visit to the district was under a heavily armed battalion of police officers that followed him.

Election rigging is treason

0

I AM submitting a legal and political opinion to the ECZ through this forum that it should never be part of treasonous act in Zambia.

There is no reason whatsoever why theft of an election in any country, through rigging, with incontrovertible evidence proving the same, should not attract the charge of treason. In the case of Zambia, the parent charge of treason is under Section 43 of the Penal Code. Analogous sections of this are found in other countries’ criminal statutes. Stealing an election through rigging involves unlawful, illegal and massive unconstitutional violations of the constitutional and electoral laws of the country to alter the coming into power of a legitimate government chosen by the people. Theft of an election is a fraudulent usurpation of power by an illegitimate government that has been turfed out of power by the country’s voters. It is a coup d’état to unconstitutionally and illegally cling to power by the incumbent government. The fact that there is initially no violence, a term which is used interminably in Section 43 of the Penal Code, is immaterial as violence is embedded in the very act and fact of rigging an election. Violence is part of the plan to enforce the acquiescence of the population should the rigging be exposed and fought against. And violence can consume the nation in the aftermath of a rigged election as we saw in Ivory Coast, Kenya (2007/08) and elsewhere. In the case of Zambia, individuals were arrested and accused/charged of fomenting violence by trying to resist and expose evidence of rigging. Thus violence is implicated and is part of overt acts in the enforcement of rigging an election.

In the Edward Shamwana treason case in Zambia, no violence was actually used, but it was part of the plan and even though no violence was used, Shamwana and others were convicted of treason. Those who know about the plan to illegally overthrow the government but who don’t divulge those plans to the authorities can be convicted of misprision of treason. In the case of election theft through rigging, many people would directly or circumstantially have knowledge that rigging is underway.

The result of election theft by rigging is that you have an illegitimate government that does not have the mandate to rule just as you would have a government that took power by force. There is no difference.

Election theft by rigging has grievous aggravating factors and must constitute treason. A coterie of individuals with planning and deliberation aforethought, sometimes over a lengthy period of time, organise to engage in the overt and covert actus reus (action) with requisite mens rea (intention) to violate the constitution and electoral laws of their country. Some of these individuals who participate in the conspiracy to violate the constitution and electoral laws of the country, would have sworn on the Holy Book to follow and uphold the constitution and laws of the country. But here they are, violating the very oath, constitution and laws they had sworn to abide by and enforce. There can be no greater betrayal of the constitution and laws of the country than what is involved in election theft by rigging. This is treason.

Theft of an election by rigging engages the coincidence of actus reus (the doing) and mens rea (intention) to violate the law and is complex. It is not as inept as Captain Solo waking up one day and deciding that he was going to have fun that day at the main radio station! Rigging can be sophisticated and involves many people: the army, the air force, the police, ministries, civil servants, the judiciary, the Presidency, diplomats, banks, immigration, transporters, printers, newspapers, and many other entities and institutions.

Sometimes it involves the registration of foreign voters by issuing them the country’s primary identity cards like National Registration Cards. It involves conniving with foreigners to print ballot papers some of which are pre-marked or that are easy to manipulate. Rigging involves training and facilitating individuals, sometimes foreigners to manipulate computers and election technologies in favour of the regime in power to enable it to cling on to power. Theft of an election involves stationing cadres at voting points to intimidate and engage in violence against election monitors or the opposition. Theft of an election by rigging involves destroying the opposition’s votes and inflating that of the party in power. Election theft by rigging involves using the army and police and government ministries and infrastructure to deprive the citizens of the benefit of installing a legitimate government of their choice. This is as treasonous as it gets. Theft of elections through rigging must be criminalised as acts of treason. That should act as deterrence. The ECZ would be part of any rigging scheme. They don’t want to get involved in a crime of grave consequences.

Yes democracy in Zambia is my business as it is for all Zambians under Zambia’s Sky.

Bill and Melinda Gates finalize divorce

0

Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates are officially divorced, after a judge approved their split on Monday.

The powerhouse couple — who met at Microsoft (MSFT) in 1987 and married in 1994 — announced in May that they would be ending their marriage after 27 years, saying, “we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.” French Gates filed the petition for divorce in King County, Washington.

The couple’s divorce agreement was pursuant to a separation contract, which is not public. Neither person will pay spousal support, according to court documents filed Monday. No other financial details are included in publicly available documents.

As of Monday, Gates’ net worth was around $152 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which means he and French Gates could each be worth around $76 billion following the divorce.

French Gates does not plan to change her name, according to court documents.

When the couple first announced their divorce, they said they would continue to jointly run their charity, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which had an endowment of roughly $50 billion at the end of 2020. However, the foundation said last month that the organization was planning a two-year trial period to see if the pair could continue working together effectively.

If that happens, Gates would remain in control and, essentially, buy her out of the foundation, Suzman said. French Gates would receive “personal resources” from Gates for her own philanthropic work — resources that would be “completely separate from the foundation’s endowment.”

In the weeks following the initial announcement of the divorce, Gates faced allegations of questionable workplace conduct in the early years at Microsoft. (A spokesperson for Gates called many of these allegations “untruths” in a comment to the New York Times, and CNN could not independently confirm the reports.)

Gates’ 2020 resignation from Microsoft’s board of directors came after the board hired a law firm to investigate a romantic relationship he had with a Microsoft employee two decades earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported in May. Representatives of Gates acknowledged the relationship, but said his exit from the board was unrelated. Following the report, current Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the company’s culture had since changed, adding: “Microsoft of 2021 is very different from the Microsoft of 2000.”

Cellular signals: Dismay over possibility of internet blackout during Zambia’s August general election

By Peter Fabricius, Daily Maverick • 2nd August 2021

Cellular providers MTN and Airtel cannot promise that they won’t shut down services during the Zambian elections.

Zambia’s main opposition party is disappointed that the country’s two biggest cellular companies – MTN and Airtel – cannot guarantee that they will not shut down internet access over the 12 August general election.

Opposition parties and civil society widely expect President Edgar Lungu’s government to black out the internet and social media to prevent independent reporting, and monitoring of the results. Opposition parties say a blackout could frustrate their efforts to send final campaign messages, to inform their supporters of where and how to vote, and to report incidents of violence, intimidation and electoral irregularities on social media.

Governments also often block cellphone signals to stop opposition supporters from rallying in protest if they suspect the results have been rigged.

MTN told DM168 that the group and its subsidiaries, including MTN Zambia, respected digital human rights, including “the right to communicate, to share information freely and responsibly, and to enjoy privacy and security regarding their data and their use of digital communications”.

MTN said if the Zambian government ordered it to shut down its services during the elections, the company would have to consider the order in light of its digital human rights policy. But MTN did not say that it would not shut down its services or censor them. And the company confirmed that it had shut down in four other African countries recently during unrest.

“In all cases, restricting access to the internet is a last resort,” an MTN spokesperson said.

Lungu is facing a major challenge from Hakainde Hichilema, leader of the United Party for National Development (UPND) who came close to beating him in the 2015 and 2016 presidential elections. UPND Secretary-General Batuke Imenda told DM168: “We are disappointed that MTN and Airtel, as Zambia’s two biggest telecommunications providers, will not guarantee to protect internet access ahead of the general election on 12 August and stand up against any attempts by the government to infringe [on] the digital rights of citizens.

“Combined access to data and internet connectivity is an essential requirement for a free, fair and credible election. There is a distinct possibility that the government will instruct Zambia’s telecommunications companies to shut down the internet in an attempt to subvert the democratic will of the people. Any throttling of the internet, blocking of social media/instant messaging platforms and internet shutdowns will compromise the freedom and fairness of the election.

“Further, shutting down the internet is a violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens being contrary to Article (20) of the Constitution of Zambia. The tactics to shut down the internet is dictatorial and a serious indictment on freedom of expression.

“These tactics deny voters access to information about the election, including where and how to vote. Importantly, the government of Zambia is also aimed at preventing election monitors [including observation missions] from communicating and carrying out independent monitoring of the voting and counting process.

“We call upon both MTN and Airtel to take a clear stance in support of human rights and democracy by declaring their opposition to any instruction to throttle or shut down the internet and block access to social media and instant-messaging platforms.

“They should furthermore indicate publicly what steps they will be taking to engage with government to pre-empt any unlawful instruction.”

In response to questions about how it would respond if the Zambian government instructed it to black out signal over the election period, MTN said: “MTN Group believes that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life and our priority is always to provide customers with full access to our network.” MTN endorsed the United Nations (UN) stance “that the rights held by people offline must also be protected online”.

“Our response to digital human rights is underpinned by a sound group-wide policy and due diligence framework. In all cases, restricting access to the internet is a last resort. Should MTN Zambia receive an instruction to shut down the internet, we would first have to check the terms of our licence and ensure that we comply with our licence conditions.” MTN would review the directive against the group’s digital human rights policy and due diligence framework, guided by the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights framework.

MTN was engaging with stakeholders, including industry players and regulatory authorities, to assess the likelihood of a potential request for an internet shutdown, to identify “potential mitigations” and “manage any potential situation as effectively as possible.”

“As part of our due diligence framework, MTN works to limit the scope, extent, or duration of any human rights impacts.”

DM168 asked MTN if it would comply with a request by the Zambian authorities to censor text messages to remove the names of opposition candidates, as cellular companies did during the recent Tanzanian elections. MTN said it was “politically impartial in all its operations and does not subscribe to any political party, movement, or affiliation” but would evaluate such a request from either governmental or non-governmental bodies to see if the requests were legal. “Even as a major player in many markets, we cannot presume that we can influence these events upfront,” MTN said, adding that it recognised it had a role of “advocating globally for respect of digital human rights”.

Asked if it would consider pulling out of Zambia if asked to shut or censor its transmission, the company said it would do “a robust risk assessment before any decision is taken to exit a market”, taking into account numerous factors, including human rights and stakeholders’ perspectives.

“Many of the markets in which MTN operates have the lowest mobile penetration rates globally. Investing in these markets allows MTN to provide vital communications services, ensuring people have access to basic and emergency services and a means of sharing information and staying connected.

“MTN’s presence enables people to realise their basic human rights. Notwithstanding, the risk of human rights incidents in our countries of operation exists. Such risks are a factor of doing business in these markets and these are not strictly limited to MTN.”

DM168 asked MTN for examples where it had shut down or censored communications for governments and why this was done.

“In 2020, MTN received three major requests by authorities, legally permitted by applicable laws or by virtue of a court order, obliging MTN to block or suspend internet or social media services or websites.

“These were in Sudan, Guinea-Conakry and Nigeria, and these incidents took place during times of political or social unrest.

“As an example, in June 2020, Sudan experienced a month-long near-total internet shutdown due to unrest in the country. MTN Sudan followed the Group’s due diligence process, which included understanding the options available before making any decision to comply or reject the requests to shut down services. The process also considered the safety and security risks to employees, customers, and operations. MTN Sudan was commended by its customers for being one of the last operators to shut down and one of the first to reinstate services.

“In late June 2021, during social unrest in Eswatini, MTN Eswatini received a directive from the communications regulator to shut down access to social media and online messaging platforms. After extensive engagements with all relevant stakeholders, MTN resumed the provision of full internet services nine days after complying with the directive.” DM168

Kanyama killings look like a PF hit job

0

By Kalapashi

First and foremost I must say that the killing of the two PF cadres, Danny Chingangu and Teddy, in Kanyama two days ago is regrettable and is something that should never happen in a democracy and a peace loving country like ours.

To the issue at hand.
The immediate allegation is that the dual were murdered by UPND cadres who have since been arrested and detained.

But does such a killer fit the profile of a UPND cadre, let alone a UPND female cadre? UPND cadres are ordinarily afraid of their PF counterparts and rarely walk around in their party regalia expect where ‘safety of numbers’, grants security.

So how possible is it that these three young people, among them a female, in their mid twenties, wearing UPND regalia, at night, deep in Kanyama, walked bravery to a PF camp and located their victims and started hucking them until they died? Where were the other PF cadres? Did the victims cry for help?

And this incident happened out of nowhere without there being a political event in Kanyama specifically near the said PF camp?

On the other hand it is just too difficult not to think that this could have been a doing of PF cadres. After all this is not the first time such could have happened.

In 2012 Menyani Zulu a PF cadre was killed during a by-election in Chongwe. Initially blame was put on the UPND resulting in some UPND members being arrested and detained by police. But the final report showed that Zulu was killed by his fellow PF cadres during a fight for campaign ration money.

In 2013 during another by-election, in Livingstone, another PF cadre, Harrison Chanda, was brutally murdered. Again the accusing finger initially pointed at the UPND.

Senior UPND leaders in that campaign were rounded up among them party leader Hakainde Hichilema, Mazabuka MP Gary Nkombo and former Livingstone mayor Aggrey Njekwa. Hichilema was accused of inciting violence while Nkombo and Njekwa were charged with murder.

But investigation revealed that the real killer was a PF member Henry Lungu. The investigation report stated that Chanda and Lungu differed over campaign funds, again.

We could go on listing such similar happenings.

The volcano that is the PF civil war never quite dies, it only simmers down and erupts from time to time. Recently this PF volcano erupted following the beating of Innocent Kalimanshi at the party secretariat during the Kambwili return ceremony. Since then rival groups, mostly in Chiwama, have been at war, threatening each other on social media platforms, fighting bloody street battles where innocent passers-by have been caught up and eventually culminated in the breaking and burning down of the PF offices in Chawama.

The recent arresting and detation of Innocent Kalimanshi by the DEC on allegations of being in possession of cannabis did not help matters. Black Apple, Kalimanshi’s number 2 in the gang, ama Americans, immediately recorded a video where he accused rival groups at Intercity, lead by Eddie Gowa, and another at ‘Kamugodi’ in Chibolya. Black Apple also threatened the DEC director general and accused him of working with ama Americans’ rival gangs, induced by corruption. In that video Black Apple just fell short of declaring war on Intercity and Kamugodi, both based in Kanyama constituency.

In view of all this, could it be possible that the war that had been ragging among Chawama PF gangs has just crossed the Great North road into Kanyama?

There is another angle.

It’s a well noted pattern that the PF default to violence whenever they feel their backs against the wall in an election. They do this to induce fear and at the same time heap the blame on their opponents. This was the case in both the 2015 and 2016 elections and was heightened in bye-elections from Chongwe, to Livingstone, to Mulobezi, to Sesheke, to Kaoma.

It’s not a secret that the PF have found the 2021 campaign season a very tough one occasioned by a melting economy, increasing lawlessness and unrelenting corruption. They have failed to find a song with the kind of influence that ‘dununa reverse’ had in 2016. Similarly, the public has rejected their tribal message with key opinion influencers openily condemning the divisive rhetoric.

Could it therefore be a mere coincidence that PF spin doctors have been building a narrative, in the past few days, of the UPND being a violent party and, boom, two people are killed in Kanyama?

Last letter from Patrice Lumumba, First Prime minister of Congo to his wife

0

Last letter from Patrice Lumumba, First Prime minister of Congo (Born in 1925, Assassinated by Belgium and its Western allies in 1961) to his wife.

Letter from Thysville Prison to Mrs. Lumumba

My dear wife,

I am writing these words to you, not knowing whether they will ever reach you, or whether I shall be alive when you read them.

Throughout my struggle for the independence of our country I have never doubted the victory of our sacred cause, to which I and my comrades have dedicated all our lives.

But the only thing which we wanted for our country is the right to a worthy life, to dignity without pretence, to independence without restrictions.

This was never the desire of the Belgian colonialists and their Western allies, who received, direct or indirect, open or concealed, support from some highly placed officials of the United Nations, the body upon which we placed all our hope when we appealed to it for help.
They seduced some of our compatriots, bought others and did everything to distort the truth and smear our independence.

What I can say is this—alive or dead, free or in jail—it is not a question of me personally.
The main thing is the Congo, our unhappy people, whose independence is being trampled upon.
That is why they have shut us away in prison and why they keep us far away from the people. But my faith remains indestructible.

I know and feel deep in my heart that sooner or later my people will rid themselves of their internal and external enemies, that they will rise up as one in order to say ‘No’ to colonialism, to brazen, dying colonialism, in order to win their dignity in a clean land.
We are not alone. Africa, Asia, the free peoples and the peoples fighting for their freedom in all corners of the world will always be side by side with the millions of Congolese who will not give up the struggle while there is even one colonialist or colonialist mercenary in our country.

To my sons, whom I am leaving and whom, perhaps, I shall not see again, I want to say that the future of the Congo is splendid and that I expect from them, as from every Congolese, the fulfilment of the sacred task of restoring our independence and our sovereignty.
Without dignity there is no freedom, without justice there is no dignity and without independence there are no free men.

Cruelty, insults and torture can never force me to ask for mercy, because I prefer to die with head high, with indestructible faith and profound belief in the destiny of our country than to live in humility and renounce the principles which are sacred to me.

The day will come when history will speak. But it will not be the history which will be taught in Brussels, Paris, Washington or the United Nations.

It will be the history which will be taught in the countries which have won freedom from colonialism and its puppets.

Africa will write its own history and in both north and south it will be a history of glory and dignity.

Do not weep for me. I know that my tormented country will be able to defend its freedom and its independence.
Long live the Congo!

President Lungu won the 2016 Elections by 13 000 Votes and Not 100 000 votes

0

By Venus N Msyani, Concerned citizen

As the August 12 election approaches help Zambia leave no stone unturned. It has come to light that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has not done enough job on educating people on 50%+1 vote clause.

Some Zambians still don’t understand why others say Hakainde Hichilema lost to president Edgar Lungu by 13 000 votes in the 2016 general election and ignoring them is a threat to post August 12 election peace.

To make the matter worse, even the president himself seem not to believe that he won by that number.

Various comments on the article Simple math favors opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema, which also appeared under the headline The real battle is between the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) and the Ruling Patriotic Front (PF) on Lusaka Times lead to this conclusion. And also, a post on Zambian Eye news.

“I stopped reading at “In the 2016 general election Hakainde lost again but managed to cut the margin to half. He lost by only about 13 000 votes.” This is clearly Under 5 thinking at it’s why Under 5 supporters will cry. Over 100, 000 is now 13 000? Anyway, let me just end here.” Someone with a pseudonym Kawasaki commented.

Another comment by another pseudonym Wondering: I thought HH lost by a margin of about 100,000 votes in 2016? I stand to be corrected? Where has the 13,000 come from?
“I won by 100 000 in 2016 and this time around I will win by 500 000 votes.” Zambian Eye News quotes president Edgar Lungu.

Talking about it. 6,698,372 registered to vote in 2016 and 3, 695,710 cast their votes. The Patriotic Front (PF) received 1,860,877 votes while United Party for National Development (UPND) received 1,760,347 and the rest went to miscellaneous parties.

Under the 50%+1 clause, one needs to cross the line, which is 50% of the votes in order to win the Zambian presidency. Hence, what matters under the 50%+1vote clause is the percentage above the line.

It is true the vote difference in 2016 was a little bit above a hundred thousand but what made Lungu a winner was +0.35%. Otherwise, the election was headed for a rerun.

Edgar Lungu won by about 13 000 votes, which is a total vote cast (3,695,7100) times 0.35/100. In short, 13000 votes are votes that helped Lungu meet the 50%+1 clause.

Sounds simple but not to be taken for granted. Anyone with a better understanding or explanation should not hesitate to share. No stone should be left unturned to avoid post-election confusion.

UPND Demands Answers On ‘suspicious Cargo’ Flown Together With Ballot Boxes

0

By Ulande Nkomesha,

UPND chairperson for elections Gary Nkombo says the country needs explanation as to why unknown cargo was transported together with ballot papers.

During the arrival of the last consignment of ballot papers, unknown cargo was seen being offloaded from the Emirates flight which was assigned to transport ballot papers. Upon opening the unknown cargo, it was discovered that some of it were batteries and mobile phones, while other boxes could not be opened.

Speaking to journalists, Saturday, Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) acting chief elections officer Royd Katongo said the Commission was also waiting for an explanation from Emirates.

“I think that matter has been addressed from the time we were beginning the verification, the Commission talked to that. The Chairperson had guided as to how we will proceed as ECZ. The brief summary is that even us as the Commission we are an interested party in this matter. Emirates are looking into the matter, they are investigating the matter, they are the ones who carried the cargo. As a Commission we are also waiting for Emirates to come back to us as [to] what had transpired,” said Katongo.

Speaking during a press briefing, Sunday, Nkombo said ECZ owed the Zambian people an explanation on the matter.

“The ECZ owes this country an explanation and this time we are writing a letter to Emirates, the airline that brought the ballot papers, for them to explain how cargo that was not on the manifest could find itself in the boxes where the ballot papers are. Where did these phones come from? Who is the consigner? Who is the consignee? What is the purpose of these particular gadgets that came without a document trail? What are they for? Could it be true and I hate to be an advocate of doom, what we heard is that they intend to do what the Ugandans did to shut the internet on the day of the elections so that the election’s management of results is tempered with. We would like to send a warning to ECZ, those phones must be displayed by all interested parties and quarantined very far away from this election process,” Nkombo said.

Nkombo said the gadgets that were transported together with the ballot papers should be burnt in full view of the public.

“These are the things that bring consternation in a nation, these are the things that bring anxiety in a country. Judge Chulu, this is basically on you bwana, whose phones are those? What are they for? How come there is no explanation about these phones? Remember you can fool people sometimes but you can never fool people every time. Every dog has its own day. You have manipulated the country for far too long. The things are now coming back around, the chickens are now coming to roost,” Nkombo said.

“We demand an explanation from the ECZ, tell us who those gadgets are for and we demand that they must be displayed in a public place and be burnt. They must be burnt! We are not going to an election which has already been decided. We are informed that there are also welding machines in there, did they go for a business trip? Zambians wake up! ECZ is using you. You must explain to us Judge Chulu, Nshindano, if those things are yours for domestic use, why did you consign them with public materials? This is what causes consternation. We are not going to take this with our arms folded, we want answers, we want to give us answers tomorrow. We cannot sleep on a matter such as this one. You are putting this country in harm’s way.”

Meanwhile UPND national youth spokesperson Gilbert Liswaniso accused the Zambia police of not thoroughly investigating the violence that happened in Kanyama on Friday that left two PF supporters dead.

“I want to make it very clear that among the two people who died the day before yesterday, Danny Chingangu is our member. Danny Chingangu has been our member, our vice security chairman for Chinika Ward. The PF they know, the police know. Two weeks ago, Chingangu was arrested at City Market. The records are there and he was given a case of malicious conduct. Yesterday, madam Charity Katanga was quick to say things which are not there. What happened in Kanyama the day before yesterday, it was not the UPND that went to the PF camp, our two members went to the market to go and buy relish so that they could take to the campaign centre. Then they were followed by eight or nine PF youths,” said Liswaniso.

“When they reached near our campaign centre that is how our members were beaten. The good part of it is that the community came together and protected our members. When they were defeated, they went back again to recruit people to go and attack back. In that process our member was killed. Even the police who took those bodies are aware of what happened. Yesterday Charity Katanga was quick to arrest our members than investigating the matter.- News Diggers!

10. After his semi-retirement at the age of 35 in 2015, and with plenty of time available on his hands, President Sean Tembo decided to contribute to the governance of Zambia by joining active politics. His initial plan was to join an existing political party which advances progressive ideas that have the potential to uplift the living standards of the Zambian people. After reviewing the plans, operations and democratic standing of existing political parties at the time, it soon dawned upon President Sean Tembo that he may have to consider starting a political party from scratch, as nothing that was available appeared tenable.

11. In February 2015, President Sean Tembo organized a number of other progressive Zambians and together they started the process of forming the Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP). The Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) is a centrist political party that believes in a free market economy with partial Government intervention. The party was registered in the Republic of Zambia in 2016 in accordance with the Societies Act, Chapter 119 of the Laws of Zambia, and is also duly accredited with the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ). On 18th November 2016, the Party went for a convention that was held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MICC), in Lusaka, where Sean Tembo was elected as Party President with a 5 year mandate until November 2021.

12. The Party’s four core values are Patriotism, Accountability, Competence and Courage. The Party’s vision is “to have a Zambia where the poorest person has an average monthly income of K10,000.00, inflation is below 5%, average commercial bank lending rates are single digit, the Gini coefficient is less than 0.1, Per capita income is above US$20,000, the least educated citizen has a full grade 12 certificate and Zambians having a life expectancy of not less than 80 years”. Sean Tembo strongly believes that Zambia has the necessary potential to make this vision a reality.

13. The Patriots for Economic Progress has been undertaking a number of activities to hold the PF government accountable, which include the fire tender protests of which 42 were planned and 12 have so far been undertaken. On 7th March 2018, the Police prevented the Party from undertaking its 13th protest against the $42 fire tender scandal, for no valid reasons. Mr Sean Tembo subsequently decided to take the Government to court, on behalf of PeP, under cause number 2018/HP/490, for violating the Party members freedoms, rights and liberties to association, expression and assembly as guaranteed by articles 20 and 21 of the Republican Constitution. President Sean Tembo personally represented PeP in this matter at the High Court, up against the entire Attorney General’s chambers. He won the case and was awarded a total of about K450,000 in damages and costs, which the PF Government has not paid to date. Ostensibly out of spite.

14. In addition to providing checks and balances, and unlike the majority of other opposition political parties that only point fingers, President Sean Tembo has ensured that the Patriots for Economic Progress has actively been providing alternative solutions to national problems and challenges. In this regard, PeP has so far developed and presented a PeP Alternative 7th National Development Plan, PeP Alternative National Budgets for 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 and is currently working on the PeP 2021 Alternative National Budget.

15. Among other key matters, President Sean Tembo has ensured that the Patriots for Economic Progress is financially self-sustainable so that it can maintain its independence and not become beholden to those individuals and interest-groups that might donate significant sums of money for its operations. To this end, the Party charges its members a membership fee of K60 per annum, except for those that are financially challenged, who are allowed to apply for a pre-approved waiver. As at August 2020, the party had more than 548,000 paid up members. Sean Tembo has also seen to it that the Party engages in a number of income generating activities through the sale of various pieces of regalia. In the 2019 financial year, the Party sold about 74,000 PeP branded t-shirts at K30 each and various other pieces of regalia is planned to be introduced to enhance the Party’s revenue generation capacity. These prudent financial measures have ensured that the Party always has adequate financial resources available to undertake its operations, as well as to build the necessary war chest in readiness for the 2021 general elections.

16. The PeP President believes that it is unreasonable for any political party to promise to come and run a financially sustainable government once they come to power when they fail to run their operations in a financially sustainable manner while in opposition. Sean Tembo will be contesting the Presidency of the Republic of Zambia in 2021 and he is expecting a very good performance. His running mate in the 12th August general elections is Mr Henry Muleya, a Lusaka Businessman and Chartered Accountant. President Tembo’s primary target group are the 5.5 million eligible Zambians that decided not to register and not to vote in the 2016 general elections because they did not believe in the leadership of either ECL nor HH. President Sean Tembo believes that our politics do not need to revolve around ECL and HH. We can do better than that as a nation. President SET represents the future of progressive Zambian politics.

17. After a grueling nomination process, PeP President Mr Sean Tembo and PeP Vice President Mr Henry Muleya successfully managed to file in their nominations for Republican President and Republican Vice President respectively. The Patriots for Economic Progress has also successfully filed in nominations in selected constituencies and wards across the country.

18. The PeP Presidential Candidate believes that if his relatively new political party was able to achieve so much in terms of holding the government of the day accountable as well as presenting alternative solutions to national problems, within a period of 4 years since formation, when it did not have a single Member of Parliament or Councillor, then it will definitely contribute even much more should the Zambian people be gracious enough to give PeP representation in Parliament and at various local authorities across the country.

Having been not aligned to either the PF nor the UPND, President Sean Tembo believes that PeP stands well poised to offer progressive opposition to whoever was to form Government between the PF and the UPND. The fact that we need a vibrant opposition to make our democracy to thrive, cannot be overemphasized. President Sean Tembo looks at this 12th August 2021 general elections as a stepping stone for the party to grow and be a force to reckon with in the next 5 years, so that by 2026 the party will be a major contender in the general election.

President Sean Tembo believes that consistency, integrity and independence of mind are the cornerstones to the growth of PeP into a vibrant national political party. President Tembo is cognizant of the fact that political success cannot be achieved overnight. It is a painstaking marathon which requires resilience and vision.

SET has both. For a vibrant Zambia, vote Sean Enock Tembo on 12th August this year. The future of Zambia is bright. The future is yellow. The future is SET.

The PF Prof. Luo, HH, Homosexuality, and the Christian Nation Mantra

0

By Kapya Kaoma

Prof. Nkandu Luo’s execrable claim that Hakainde Hichilema is paid by the African Liberal Network to allow same-sex marriage, and revoke the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation once in power made me wonder if being PF turns public intellectuals into Political Fools. Prof. Luo’s claims are ridiculously insane except for the outlandish harm it may cause to the already demonized gay community.

The homosexualization of HH was expected, but coming from Prof. Luo is simply jaw-dropping. In Trumpian style, and with her mouth covered in a mask, she openly buried her reputation in Kasempa among pastors–ignoring the ninth commandment–“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Exodus 20:16). The Zambian Constitution does not allow same-sex marriage, and the declaration is enshrined in the Constitution. HH couldn’t allow same-sex marriage or remove the declaration without amending the Constitution. Only a fool can be duped by such a fib

Prof. Luo’s goal is to use the public disgust attached to homosexuality to enchant Christian fundamentalists into voting for the PF. History is not starved of the truth– gays have not stolen from us, her party has; gays haven’t killed or terrorized innocent Zambians for supporting the opposition, PF cadres have; gays haven’t watched our children die from curable illnesses while their own are flown to South Africa and Europe to be treated by gay doctors, Luo’s cadres have been the beneficiaries. So why sacrifice gays for corruption brought about by the Lungu administration?

Prof. Luo is highly concerned about homosexuals. Yet Zambians care more about the quality of their life than a gay person, a drunk, or sex worker roaming the streets. They want a president who fires and prosecute corrupt ministers more than the one who sniffs for “sinful” homosexuals in every hotel or guest room on taxpayers funds. Zambians want a president who treats them as human beings, who promises to protect their human rights, create jobs, and ensure that every Zambian has access to safe drinking water, sanitation and of course basic living standards. This is the Lungu she should be selling to voters!

Prof. Luo wholly knows. Hakainde Hichilema is just as homophobic as Lungu and his association with the African Liberal Network doesn’t change it. Even if he supported gay rights, he wouldn’t be alone. Many Zambians have links to gay affirming organizations–FIFA, English Premier League, World Vision, World Health Organization, Bread for the World, the World Council of Churches, the World Bank, the IMF, the European Union, the UK, the U. S., the United Nations, and African Union Human Rights and Peoples’ Rights Commission–the list is endless. Like HH, both Lungu and herself have personal dealings with some of these organizations.

On June 30, 2016, the United Nation Human Rights Council adopted the resolution to decriminalize homosexuality and protect gay persons. Two years earlier, the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights called for the decriminalization of homosexuality and the protection of gay persons in Africa. Since then, Angola, Mozambique and Botswana have decriminalized homosexuality, and Namibia is to follow. South Africa is the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. Is Prof. Luo suggesting that Zambians should vote out the PF for associating with all these institutions and nations?

The Trumpian bigotry expressed by Luo betrays the very title ‘professor’–she is an embarrassment to the academy! The HH team should be cognizant of her game–it is time to empty the kitchen sink. The PF loves the gay whoopla and it works–it ignites Zambians into blaming their misery on homosexuals as opposed to those in power. But life is not short on factuality; homosexuality does not put food on our table–it is a private matter. Even if gays are headed to hell, like drunkards, it is none of Luo’s or her pastors’ business.

What mournful dirge should I sing for the once respectable Prof. Luo has stooped to the level of Mwila, Kambwili and GBM? Poor young women in shame now dwell, for once a political model, her integrity and dignity in Kasempa lost! She goes down in history as a liar in a mask!

Notably despicable is also for men and women of the cloth to continue shouting the “Christian nation” mantra in exchange for brown envelopes filled with blood money–the funds that would have saved many lives had it been spent on health care. Pastors must be prophetic enough to speak truth to power. But who can when pastors compete for the President’s wallet shouting, “give me a brown envelope, and I will give you a prophecy?

Thus says the Lord. Homosexuals are behind Zambia’s economic, political and ethnic woes. Alebwelelapo! Amen!”

Kalala urges security institutions to refuse being used as pawns by PF

0

By Oliver Chisenga

JACK Kalala says the conduct of Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja and Zambia Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Michael David Muma is unbecoming and unprofessional.

The former special assistant to president Levy Mwanawasa said it was clear that government institutions were being used to prevent opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema from campaigning.

“Zambia is scheduled to hold general elections on 12th August 2021. All political parties are supposed to meet the electorate to tell them their plans for the nation to help the voters to make an informed decision but the PF is using government institutions to restrict the main opposition party, UPND, from campaigning. Zambia Police (ZP), Zambia Air Force and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) are being used to frustrate the UPND campaigns by stopping the leader, HH, from going out as his opponent President Edgar Chagwa Lungu (ECL) and his running mate Professor Nkandu Luo are doing,” Kalala said.

“What is happening is like having two boxers in the ring with one having his hands tied with a rope behind his back while the other has all his hands free. Would that be a fair fight? Not at all! As national institutions, the Zambia Police and Zambia Air Force should stay away from partisan politics. Their role and focus should be to ensure that security and stability prevail in the country. They should ensure that every citizen is protected and his rights are also protected.”

He said Parliament was dissolved 90 days before the elections to allow parties to campaign.

“This is done to create a status of equality among political parties participating in the elections. There is no party in power during the campaign period so that the ground is leveled for all political players,” Kalala said. “ZAF, ZP, ECZ and others are national institutions that are there to serve the nation and the people of Zambia with impartiality and to protect their rights, their lives and properties.”

He said the people working for government institutions were paid by the treasury and not by the party in power.

Kalala said the contributors to the national treasury were all the citizens of Zambia regardless of their political affiliation, tribe or skin colour.

“National public institutions are there to serve and protect the nation and the Constitution. The people who have the honour and privilege to serve in these institutions are not expected to have partisan attitudes in discharging their official duties. They are not supposed to exhibit partisan alignment in the execution of their duties,” he said.

Kalala said it was “absolutely wrong” for Kanganja, Lt Gen Muma and ECZ chairperson justice Esau Chulu to be seen to favour PF and President Edgar Lungu, and to discriminate against any opposition leader.

He insisted that the trio’s work attitude was to be fair and just referees and linesmen in enforcing the rules of the game.

“They should ensure that all the players abide by the rules of the game. They should be professional and impartial in the execution of their duties. By taking sides as they are doing now, they are failing in their duties and risking national security,” he said. “They are making citizens to lose confidence in the public institutions that they are administering, which is not good for the security and stability of our nation.”

Kalala said Zambia’s men and women in uniform should remain apolitical and focus on their noble duty to serve the nation with honour and integrity as they have always done.

“They should emulate their colleagues in the USA. When president Donald Trump was defeated, he attempted to seek the intervention of the service chiefs to maintain him in power following his defeat. They categorically and firmly refused to do an illegal thing. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Alexander Milley, stated that their loyalty was to the Constitution of the United States of America and not to any individual or political party,” he recalled.

He added that political parties come and go but security institutions would always be there to serve the nation and protect citizens.

Kalala urged security institutions to refuse to be used as pawns by PF leaders.

“They should be there for the nation and its citizens. All Zambians are equal. Zambia is not an animal farm where some Zambians should be considered to be more superior to others. Let each political party play their game according to the standard rules and regulations as by law established,” he said. “The role of choosing who should be leader of Zambia is the duty of citizens. No institution should interfere by influencing how people should vote. Zambia is a democracy where citizens are the only ones who are mandated to elect leaders of their choice. This process should be free of any interference from anywhere and by any one.”

Kalala said the will of the people should be respected and Lt Gen Muma and other heads of security institutions should not interfere in the on-going electoral process as doing so would be going outside their mandates to protect the nation, preserve peace and stability, and to maintain law and order.

“Their duty is to serve Zambia in protecting its territorial integrity and national sovereignty, the people of Zambia and their properties,” said Kalala.

Kwacha Appreciation attributed To External Debt Defaults – Kanyama

Kwacha Appreciation attributed To External Debt Defaults – Kanyama.

Lusaka – 1st August, 2021.

[ZBT] Former ZNBC Director General and leading Economist Chibamba Kanyama has disclosed that what is helping the Kwacha to appreciate is the fact that Zambia is currently not servicing any of her [US dollar denominated] external debt, which is resulting in the economy accumulating some reserves.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Zambian Business Times (ZBT), Kanyama said the major reason why the local currency is in the position it is right now apart from the [improved] copper revenue, is the fact that Zambia is not servicing external debt.

He said it is currently difficult to state or know whether the current appreciation of the Kwacha will last or not because it is not based on fundamentals but on defaulting on debt repayments.

“The major reason the Kwacha is where it is now apart from the copper revenue, is that we are not servicing external debts. We have been defaulting on external debt since last year. Imagine if we were paying as we were supposed to be paying this debt, we would not have a big reserve right now. We would not have the dollars because it could have been going to the creditors now because we are not paying them we have accumulated enough dollars,” Kanyama said.

He said, “all we have done as a country is to postpone a problem to the future but one thing you should remember is that people we are defaulting to do not mind much because they are charging us interest on interests.”

Kanyama explained that the fund holders and creditors were currently charging penalties on the interest and not on the principle. He revealed that currently the penalties for defaulting are standing at over US$1 billion.

“They are charging on interest alone not the principle amount, it is the penalty on default not the interest repayment on the principle but penalties for defaulting are now over US$1billion. So they are actually happy because they know that we won’t default for a long term, so the longer we take to pay them the more debt we accumulate and the more money they will make out of us,” Kanyama revealed.

He said, “For us, we are saying at least here, it’s okay, we need to survive because of the things happening around so let us not pay them so that we can use the money to prop-up the Kwacha.”

Kanyama said this is why it is difficult to know whether this kwacha position will last or not because the money being used to strengthen and increase supply in the market is not ours but money owed to the creditors.

“So instead of getting the dollars from the market, we are holding on to the reserves we are having from copper and so on, to pump into the market instead so that the kwacha is stable. But, there will come a time when we will have to pay back, and it will be bigger than what we should have been paying because we have been defaulting,” he added.

The Kwacha has poster over five percent gain in the last two weeks against major convertible currencies such as the US dollar. It has even breached the 1US$ per K18 range with Kasumbalesa (a forex hotspot) bureau de change rates trading at US$1 to K18.1 to K18.4 range. Bank rates in the capital Lusaka are still trading in the K19 per dollar range.

BIZWELL MUTALE CASTIGATES UPND FOR THE GRUESOME MURDER OF PF MEMBERS

BIZWELL MUTALE CASTIGATES UPND FOR THE GRUESOME MURDER OF PF MEMBERS
…….says they have resorted to violence because they don’t stand a chance to win elections
Lusaka…Sunday, August 1, 2021(Smart Eagles)
Ruling Patriotic Front Member of the National Mobilization Committee Mr Bizwell Mutale has castigated the opposition UPND Leader for being silent over the death of two members of the ruling party.

Danny Kasongo and Teddy, both members of the ruling party were yesterday killed in Kanyama by UPND thugs.
Speaking when he visited the family of the late Kasongo today, Mr Mutale said after donating 10 bags of meali meal that the late was killed by the said thugs for simply belonging to the ruling party.

He explained that unlike the opposition UPND, members of the ruling party have been peaceful following the signing on the peace accord ahead of the polls.
Mr Mutale said the opposition party has resorted to violence because they are aware that they are losing the elections.

“The death of Danny was not an accident. It was total murder. They knew that he was a PF member and they went and murdered him based on that….We are concerned as a party, we are concerned as a country,” he said.

“PF did not retaliate, not even throwing a stone because we want to adhere to the peace accord that was signed at Mulungushi. To date, our opposition leader (Hakainde Hichilema) has failed to denounce violence, even in this kind of the tragedy.”

He mentioned that His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu uses every opportunity to denounce violence, something that Mr Hichilema fails to do.

“President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has been using every platform to denounce violence, something Hichilema is failing to do. This is terrorism,” he said.

“The opposition have no chance in this country to win the election. President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has maintained peace and he is winning this election. The blood for those that have died at the hands of the UPND have given us direction.”

Meanwhile, Mutale has encourage the family to be strong adding that the party is with them.
“We are with you and we are not leaving you alone. You are part of the big family, the PF,” he said.

“What has happened won’t just go down like this. When one goes down we all go down and we stand together. Touch one of us you touch all of us. This is the country that is One Zambia One Nation. Blood will not spill for one to take power in this country.”

And Gift Kasonde, the immediate elder brother to the deceased said Danny was not just a member of the ruling party but also a bread winner.

He however called on government to handle the ‘painful’ murder case diligently.
Mr Kasonde added that government and the party should intervene to ensure that dependants for the deceased continue receiving the necessary help.

He also commended the ruling party for the love and care they have showed.

JESUS WAS THE FIRST SOCIALIST…I can say all honest political roads lead to socialism – M’membe

By Chambwa Moonga

FRED M’membe says while the Lenje and Soli people of Lusaka and Central provinces are hosting many people from other parts of Zambia, no care and respect are shown to them as hosts.

Dr M’membe, the Socialist Party presidential candidate, also says: “we are One Zambia, two nations – the nation of the haves and the nation of the have-nots.”

He also argues that, “The first socialist was Christ Himself. If you follow the teachings of Christ, your ending will be socialism. They say all roads lead to Rome [but] I can say all honest political roads lead to socialism.”

He was speaking on a virtual rally interview for Central, Lusaka and Eastern provinces, anchored by party spokesperson Rehoboth Kafwabulula last Thursday.

Dr M’membe was asked to speak about his primary concerns for Central and Lusaka provinces.

He said the “humiliation, debasement” of people in the two provinces is too high.

“The Lenje, Soli people who occupied this space of our country have been humiliated, debased. They have lost their culture, their land. They have taken their land – starting with the colonial authorities – they displaced them,” Dr M’membe regretted. “The farms you see in Lusaka and Central provinces are not owned by the Lenje or Soli people who inhabited this part of our country.”

He asked where the Lenjes are, what they are doing and how they are living.

“Nobody cares about that! Their language is in jeopardy, their cultural heritage is threatened, their own existence is no longer there. They have no land, no jobs – they have nothing,” Dr M’membe said. “How much can we ask of our people? Even the farm labouring jobs are not there for them.”

He added that even the mining that is taking place in Central Province is not there for them.

“Go to Serenje, Mkushi [and] see how they have been thrown out from their land – the Lala, Swaka people there. There is mining there of manganese and other minerals; what are they benefiting?” he asked. “There is commercial agriculture; most of their land has been fenced now and they can’t even go and collect firewood. Where do they belong? A socialist government has to ensure that these people get what belongs to them.”

He said there is need to “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar.”

“Give to the Soli, Lenje, Swaka, Lala people what belong to them – what their Creator gave them. Give them a sense of dignity. Let them count!” Dr M’membe said. “We are here in Lusaka today living as their guests. Do we have respect for the people hosting us? Do we care about how they live? Do we even know them? Do our children even know that this is Soli, Lenje, Lala, Swaka land?”

He indicated that the generosity of the Soli, Lenje, Lala and Swaka people could only be compared to the Lamba people on the Copperbelt.

“Then you say the Lenje people are lazy! The Soli people are lazy! They don’t want to work! Who told you that they don’t want to work? Who has given them jobs and they have refused?” Dr M’membe wondered.

For people in Eastern Province, Dr M’membe explained that a native from that part of the country, commander Nsingo, is the greatest hero of the Socialist Party.

“We draw our inspiration from the Ngoni’s resistance to capitalism. They are the only people in our homeland who fought against a capitalist army. They are the only people who resisted vigorously with an army and they fought to stop capitalist penetration in this country. to stop capitalist sale of their land, minerals,” he noted.

“They are the hardest working people in this country. And I say it with absolute honest and sincerity. But poverty is persisting in Eastern Province.”

He is alarmed at the fact that the more people of Eastern Province work, the more-poorer they become.

“How do you explain that? It can only be explained by one word – exploitation. The socialist government will stop that exploitation,” Dr M’membe said. “Let those hardworking people of Eastern Province benefit from the sweat of their labour. They are not asking for aid from anybody.”

Dr M’membe also argued that: “we are not One Zambia One Nation.”

“[But] we are One Zambia, two nations – the nation of the haves and the nation of the have-nots. We have to struggle to create One Zambia One Nation,” he said. “This is not the One Zambia One Nation that Dr Kenneth Kaunda bequeathed us. We have turned that into a two nation country. We can sloganeer about One Zambia One Nation but it’s leading nowhere. It can’t unify our people when inequalities are growing and nothing is being done about it.”

Earlier, Dr M’membe was asked about how he defines socialism.

He explained that socialism is about human dignity, about fraternal love for other human beings and about: “love thy neighbour as you love thy self.”

“If we love other fellow human beings the way we love ourselves, there will be no inequality that we are seeing today in the world. There will be no other human being trying to humiliate another human being,” Dr M’membe said. “There will be no human being trying to exploit another human being. There will be no human being trying to degrade another human being. There will be no wars; it will be a planet full of love, solidarity, honest and humility.”

He added that if one truly loves their neighbour, they would not want to see them go hungry, to see them naked, ill-clad and do nothing about it.

“This is what Christ taught us. This is what we are taught in James 2; faith without deeds is worthless. Socialism is about living to the principles that Christ taught us, bequeathed us,” Dr M’membe said. “Socialism is about ensuring that the material needs of human beings are met. Christ never left our material needs unattended to. Although he came to save us so that we can go to heaven, Christ paid a lot of attention to the material needs of human beings and He never left them unattended…”

He further said one cannot divorce the spiritual needs of a human being from the material conditions under which they live.

“The first socialist was Christ Himself. If you follow the teachings of Christ, your ending will be socialism. They say all roads lead to Rome [but] I can say all honest political roads lead to socialism,” noted Dr M’membe. “Any honest person, any politician who loves one another will end up as a socialist. Today the Pontiff of the Catholic Church, the Pope, is being accused of being a socialist. Not a bad accusation, anyway. He has made it very clear that today’s enemy number one of the Catholic Church is capitalism, for the degradation of human beings.”

HA! ANTONIO MWANZA SO, IT WAS A PF PROJECT TO KILL TWO? – Sikaile Sikaile

0

HA! ANTONIO MWANZA SO, IT WAS A PF PROJECT TO KILL TWO?

When you hear of a major incident occurring and Antonio Mwanza and Ntewewe show up.
Then, you know, PF is involved. Previously before Tayali fell from grace, we could have heard his voice as well.Remember when the PF gassed us, when they burnt our markets and when they killed two people at Police HQs, all these characters came up with accusations and today the rest is history.

Most recently Chisokone market was set ablaze and we heard the usual suspects running to the scene and made all sort of pledges to the marketeers being an election season. Your guess as to who burnt the market is as good as mine.To solve any big crime, the first thing we do is, find the motive. Those that listened to the most publicized PF media Director’s comments would have no problem in noticing what the motive was for the two kills in Kanyama. At the same time PF has shielded the machet and gun fight that took place last week in the presence of PF SG Mwila in Chawama between PF intercity vs Chawama camp.

According to police and intelligence sources three PF are suspected to have been killed during the infight and who knows may those the bodies they later dumped in Kanyama.

Antonio even went on to give a profile of suspects. Uh! All from the PF Secretariat.
Last week on this platform we published a story of PF stockpiling slushers, pick handles, machetes, guns etc. We pleaded with Kakoma Kanganja to close those camps and help protect his own officers who will be deployed in polling stations against an attack aimed at rigging elections for PF. Antonio Mwanza has outlined this in his comments tbank God.

In our other article, we pleaded with Lungu to appoint Antonio Mwanza as inspector General of Police. People thought that was comedy. It was all because, Mwanza is making job of the Police IG very difficult. Today Kanganja has two murders to solve but, to achieve that objective he first needs to prove Antonio Mwanza is a liar. Can Kanganja do that? Your guess is as good as mine. Antonio Mwanza my question is, is it worthy it to kill people in Kanyama just for elections?

PF is desperate to clean it’s image at all cost. If it means killing to achieve that, they will do it without any second thought just like we have consistently warned about that. Even the way systems have been drafted by the so called stakeholders you can tell that PF is involved. When did ECZ ever warn any thing to do with PF violence in an election? Remember how Lawrence Banda, Mapenzi Chibulo and Obed Bwalya Kasongo were killed. Did we here ECZ and Edgar Chagwa Lungu saying anything? Not at all.

Those that listened to statements by ECZ, Police, PF media Director etc would have established the motive for those kills. Antonio has even given a profile for the suspects. Profiling suspects in murders, requires the involvement of highly trained profilers. But, Antonio did it with easy at PF Secretariat.
Even before investigation, ECZ has already started sounding like the violence was perpetrated against the dead. Where as the two purported PF members were just bystanders.
Police on the other hand, has conveniently nabbed suspects who are not only in UPND regalia but, have confessed to be members of the UPND.Since when has police started reporting preliminary inquiries to the public? Yes, what you are thinking about is true.

The police is telling us that a person has murdered two people. A day later, police go to where it happened and look for suspects and conveniently find them still dressed in UPND regalia, anyway.According to the clue provided by Mwanza, here is what we expect from this investigation:

1. An independent investigation be instituted. I support prosecution led investigation
2. Get fingerprints for those dead two and the suspects.
3. Take the finger prints to the finger print database bureau for analysis.
4. Finger prints will have a match to released prisoners on death row mark my words
5. Tell the nation when those prisoners were released and under whose order if not Edgar Lungu

Just that, this case will be solved. Can this be done, considering that groups that should do a good job have started playing to gallery.
The motive for the killing is to have UPND punished and divert public attention from an illegal contraband brought in by ECZ on chartered planes. He/she who stands to benefit from the two motives is our prime suspect, as simple as that, case closed.
