Police pick up 10 suspected cadres, charge 4 for assault at the Magistrate Court complex in Lusaka

Police in Lusaka on Tuesday picked up 10 suspects for allegedly Assaulting Kafula Chileshe 39 of Matero Compound at the Magistrate Court complex.

From the 10, four of the suspected cadres have been charged.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said this followings a video that went viral where Chileshe was seen beaten by suspected cadres.

“It is alleged that the victim was assaulted at the gate as he was going to attend a Court session where there was ruling in the petition of Lusaka Mayoral seat and that whilst at the gate, a green mini bus stopped near him and the occupants descended on him and begun beating him,” said Katongo.

“He sustained a swollen face and general body pains. Police who rushed to the scene apprehended 10 suspects out of which four where positively identified by the suspect during an identification parade which was conducted today.”

She said all the suspects have been identified and detained in police custody awaiting Court appearance.

“Those identified are Robby Chinyama, Lackson Tembo, Vincent Zulu and Chivuka Chinyama who have been charged with Assault Occassioning Actual Bodily Harm (OABH).”


  1. These seemingly isolated incidents of violence should be viewed as local terrorism. PF press conference stormed, man tortured by suspected “cadres”, kamwala market violence….these are criminal acts by people with money still bitter with the political change with the view of bringing instability. Investigate these acts as such and try to establish links between the incidents. Do not label the perpetrators political cadres just because of the dress. They are criminal elements. PERIOD.
